“We really enjoyed the place and the decor was great, kitchen, dining and bedrooms were spacious and had lovely decor. The kitchen was large, modern and up to date, and very well equipped. The house has a big front and back porch, which were very comfortable, beautiful views and a large yard Owner was very helpful and so responsive - we really appreciated it. We would stay here again, if opportunity arises, and we would recommend it to friends. Overall, a great experience.”
The Bawden Furnace Schoolhouse was built in the 1870's and is close to downtown Galena (3.2 mi.), art and culture. The rustic ambiance, natural surroundings, and airy floor plan with wood burning stove make it easy to relax, unplug and unwind. The schoolhouse is perfect for couples and solo adventurers who are looking for a true getaway.
“The Stone Cottage was a nice midweek getaway for us, easy to get around the tri-state area from, clean, comfortable and quiet. Maybe not the best place for us in the middle of hay fever season but hey, we had to get out of the city. Nearby trails to walk in the morning – the bug nets came in handy. We could see returning in a less buggy season. Fun backyard prairie to check out. Good AC, drinkable water, some kitchen stuff provided. The microwave way on top of the frig could be hard to reach/operate for some. Very sketchy internet, but you will find most of the Galena environs has faltering to non-existent cell phone service, and the offered wifi is just a piggyback on that; patience and persistence will achieve your essential connectivity. Nice book collection! Hummingbird, deer, vultures and owl were some of the wildlife we detected. We second the hosts’ restaurant suggestions of Fried Green and Brazen. Due to corona a lot of local attractions not open, so call first. As others have noted some folks may find the mezzanine bedroom stairs a challenge so take them slow. If I hadn’t forgotten they had a guitar I wouldn’t have brought mine!”
This 1840's miner's cottage in the heart of Galena is only 3 blocks from beautiful, historic and fun Downtown Galena Main Street, but is far enough to have quiet times in the 1/25 acre yard of perennial gardens as well the expansive 2 story front porch, and 3rd porch off the kitchen, with gas grill. The house sits on a corner lot in the Galena National Historic District. The bathroom and kitchen are newly remodeled and the entire house is designer decorated. Beautiful!
“Craig's home is an excellent choice for your stay in Galena and Craig himself is a top notch host! Clean, spacious, well stocked--everything you could ask for. The location was prime and a 5 minute (if that) walk got you to Main Street and all the shops, restaurants, etc. without having to worry about parking. Far enough away that you couldn't hear any of the noise from the outdoor dining taking place these days, which made sitting on the deck fabulous. I loved everything about my stay and would highly recommend!”
