Little Boho Beach House ( Oceanfront Rental)

KathyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We enjoyed our stay for several nights! Can't beat the location & scenery! The inside is just like the photos. The King bed was very comfortable as were the pillows. Short walk out to the beach/ocean. We really enjoyed sitting on the screened porch. We enjoyed eating at the Seacow & Crust pizza place. Crissy is a great host! We will return.

Cul-de-Shack 3BR House@1BlkBeach

MatthewRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We stayed for six nights with a family of five -three kids under age 7 - and a grandparent. The property is very comfortable with great access to beach and playground for kids. The culdesac makes for a quiet setting even on a busy beach day. All three kids fit easily in the bunk bed room and were easy to keep an eye on from the master in the night. We thoroughly enjoyed our time. The arrival and departure were seamless. We’re not difficult to please by any stretch, but Sam’s instructions were very clear and he communicated well without being intrusive.

Surf Song Cottage - An iTrip Vacations Home

KathleenRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Surf Song Cottage is beautifully decorated, clean and has an incredible location steps from the beach. The homes large windows and deck allowed for amazing views. The kitchen contained everything we needed. The bedrooms were comfortable and the master bathroom was absolutely beautiful. The house rules did not bother us a bit...we played music at a reasonable level and had no problems. After seeing a protected turtle nest on the beach right in front of the cottage which was very exciting, we understood why bright lights and loud music rules are necessary. Thank you Steve and Sarah for great communications and sharing your beautiful cottage.

Studio- Behind Bert’s Market

JoshRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This place was perfect for what we wanted when booking - we even arrived a tad early the day of our check in and Omar was able to accommodate which we truly appreciated! Being next door to Bert’s was also a huge plus - they have everything you need and then some in a grocery store - we would definitely stay here again, thx for having us!

Little Betty Coastal Retreat~Minutes from Folly!

LikaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
🌊✨ A Hidden Gem by the Sea – The Little Betty ✨🌊 The Little Betty is a charming beach retreat full of heart and legacy. The home is a beautiful tribute to the owner’s grandmother, with a lovely photo of Mrs.Betty that sets the tone for the warmth and character found throughout. The local décor, with soft coastal tones and vintage touches, makes the space feel nostalgic and inviting. Every detail—from the retro record player and vinyl collection to the carefully chosen touches like the cat clock that my toddler daughters’ absolutely LOVED—feels thoughtful and full of personality. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel at ease. The Little Betty isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience wrapped in love and seaside charm. We’ll definitely be back!

Heated pool, cabana, & outdoor kitchen.

StevenRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
This Airbnb was perfect for our family of 3. Listing was exactly as described. Pool on property was fantastic and where we spent most of our time. The short walk the to beach was super convenient with plenty of beach gear (chairs, toys for kids, etc) on the property to travel with. House itself was clean and spacious and Allison was responsive to our requests and questions before and during our stay.

Walk to restaurants! New, beautiful & clean home

ShelbyRating, 5 stars5 days ago
This is a great spot to either stay on the island or venture into downtown Charleston or other areas! 20 min away with traffic but there are multiple ways to get to and from where you want to go. Place looks just like the pictures & the water pressure in the shower is lovely!

Salt and Sol. Ocean Breezes in a Chic Home.

LizRating, 5 stars2 months ago
We enjoyed this Airbnb a lot! Lovely views back and front and the beach is maybe 3 minutes walk (look for the public access sign to the left, about three houses down). Great shower! Lovely kitchen! Comfy sofas! If we ever come back to folly beach, we would love to stay again. For the mobility challenged, it is only 12 steps to front door, unlike a lot of neighboring houses, which are on stilts and have 25+ steps. 😁

Perfect spot to enjoy all that Folly Beach offers!

CarlaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Loved the house and location. We were just far enough from downtown that we couldn’t hear the live music but close enough that it was easily walkable. We also liked being next to the pickleball court. Overall great place and easy access to Charleston for a couple day trips. Would definitely recommend!

Great place! We loved how close it was to town. We walked every where. The house was perfect for us and our toddler. The best thing is the lost dog cafe next door. We are there for breakfast every day.

Steps to Dining, Shopping, 3 Minute Walk to Beach

LisaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Perfect location! Very clean and beautifully decorated. This has been our favorite place to stay on Folly so far! The private backyard was our favorite and we appreciated being able to park before check in so we could walk around Folly and get some food and shopping in. My 6 year daughter wanted to be sure to tell you that she loved the bunk bed, the bright decorations and the flowers out front.

The place was perfect for us. Very private and had room to park our trailer, truck, and motorcycle we brought. The screened in porch is a super bonus to sit in and enjoy the breeze and listen to nature and any rain showers.

Gated Farmhouse with Salt Water Pool

PeterRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
A lovely, private place with lovely, helpful hosts. Beautiful space with a refreshing pool. Close to many restaurants, event venues, ocean, sights. Had a bit of a need to get TV directions, and Brian gave us a tutorial and extra batteries, making sure we could use the TV. Had a cool Sound Bar also! Loved the AC, and the comfy, spacious couch. Gorgeous tress everywhere. Well kept, historic house with privacy and a lot of natural light. Big closet with beach items for a trip to the ocean. Great snacks, and well equipped space. Clean, and comfortable. Nice looking pond out back with turtles!!

Your guide to Folly Beach

intro

This tiny barrier island outside of Charleston, South Carolina, has a spirited history: In the 1940s and ’50s, live musicians drew big crowds to concerts on its pier. But in recent decades, Folly Beach has embraced a more mellow spirit. Days here revolve around the water, whether that means kayaking along the river or bobbing on a longboard waiting for a wave, with funky surf shops and crab shacks catering to the beach lifestyle. The famous pier is being rebuilt, but when it reopens in 2023, it will stretch more than 1,000 feet into the Atlantic, with benches for fishing and quiet contemplation.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Folly Beach

June through August brings prime beach weather, with highs in the 80s Fahrenheit and humidity that lasts into the evenings. Like other parts of the Lowcountry, it rains frequently in the summer, but showers are usually brief. Fall is typically peak surf season, as the waves get bigger but the temperatures stay warm enough, in the 60s and 70s, to be in the water. Winter brings average highs in the 40s and 50s and lots of wind, and spring temperatures climb back up to the 60s and 70s.

Top things to do in Folly Beach

Folly Beach County Park

The waves at this beach on the western end of Folly are some of the gentlest on the island, making it ideal for boogie boarding and swimming (don’t worry about bringing gear; there are numerous rentals by the shore). Keep an eye out for loggerhead turtles and brown pelicans, both of which have protected breeding habitats in the park. If you want to surf, head up to the beach around Folly Pier for lessons, or to an area known as the Washout for expert-level swells.

Folly River Park

This park is your entry to Folly’s more tranquil side, the river that runs north of the island. Rent a kayak or paddleboard — or sign up for a guided tour — from an outfitter on nearby Center Street, and then spend the day slowly making your way around the marshes, accompanied only by seabirds (or, if you’re lucky, dolphins). You can also swallow up an entire day fishing or crabbing from the dock. Either way, stick around to watch the sunset over the river.

Morris Island Lighthouse

This lighthouse has suffered damage from a cyclone and an earthquake since it was built in 1876, but it still stands tall — albeit with a slight lean — a few hundred feet off Folly Beach’s shore. You can view the lighthouse, preserved as a historical landmark, by boat (tours often pass it as part of fishing trips) or by driving to the northern end of East Ashley Avenue and taking the 15-minute walk to the beach.
