Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Located 2 min, from the Transcanada Trail, 20 min. walk to the Kinsol Trestle, a World Heritage Site with beautiful swimming holes right underneath the bridge. 20 min. to next Grocery store and 22-25 min to Duncan. Approx. 50 min- 1 hr to Victoria. Pottery lessons are available by request if you have always wanted to try it out.

Charming 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom suite located 9.5km from BC Ferries and only 4.5km to Victoria airport (YYJ). We are close to downtown Sidney, a short 15 minute drive to Butchart Gardens and 35 minutes to downtown Victoria. There is a bus on the route, but we are in a rural area and the bus is sporadic. There are plenty of beaches and hiking trails near by as well as the local golf course. Suite is attached to the host home, yet completely private with a separate entrance.

Can't say enough good things about this place! The listing says it was "purpose built" and it shows. It's set up very well, everything is high quality and in like-new condition. Large windows let in natural light, bed is plush, linens are high quality like an upper-end hotel. Bathroom is pristinely clean and set up well. And thoughtful details like having milk/creamer in the fridge, spot on kitchen supplies, quality amenities - I loved the hair dryer so much I took a photo to buy one for myself! Darcy was also lovely and a huge help when the airline lost my luggage. I needed a recommendation for where to buy business casual clothing and a charger for my phone, and Darcy responded immediately with great recommendations. Neighborhood is quiet and safe. I was thinking it might be too far from the water, but honestly Sidney is so small you can walk across the whole town in 15-20 minutes. I jogged along the water daily. Highly recommend.

It was a perfect stay. Exactly as described, a super cute hut located on their family farm. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook our meals at home. Julia was so lovely. Super friendly and available, but always respected our privacy. Great location, you are close to amenities yet it felt like you were in the middle of nowhere. Great location if you want easy access to Shawnigan lake, cobble hill, mill bay, Duncan, Chemanis, Ladysmith. Would definitely stay here again.

I was there to visit family and although further from my mother than I would have liked it was one kilometer from my cousins. There was limited available Airbnb’s on my spur of the moment visit. I am always looking for pickleball courts and drove to what I was familiar with in Fuller Lake, although there are courts right in Mill Bay. Thank you for a very comfortable stay.

This was indeed a vacation retreat. Stunning ocean views and peaceful surroundings. Zoe was very friendly, responded promptly to questions and was very accommodating. Her home was clean and the furnishings were amazing. Zoe has great taste that was reflected throughout the home. This was truly a home away from home and my family and I enjoyed our stay.
