Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

The place was absolutely lovely! The space was clean and so well equipped. The bed was comfortable and the linens top of the line, luxurious bed linens. The owners had charging cords on each side of the beds and tables… fresh flowers greeted us! The kitchen was well equipped with anything needed for a comfort stay. Coffee & tea provided… ! The only precaution would be those that may have physical challenges as access to the unit is a steep uphill climb to the unit. Also, if you have heavy luggage, it’s a bit challenge getting from the driveway to the cottage. Be cautious, I slipped and fell 66 yo) on the departure this morning on the pathway to the driveway with our luggage. However, the unit is one of the cleanest and loveliest cottages we’ve ever stayed in.. just wanted to advise those that are physically challenged about the steep driveway! We would absolutely stay here again! Hosts were very responsive as well!

Staying at Eyas Cabin was a great way to relax and connect with nature, while still having all the essentials for a comfortable stay. A comfy bed, a beautiful fireplace and a forest feeling to enjoy. The cabin was easy to find and still close to all the nice spots in northern VC Islands. But the best part is super friendly and relaxed Warren and his family. A five-star stay without any doubt.

Absolutely lovely space! The cabin is beautiful and perfect for 2 people (or 1 if you're into that). Can't recommend this place enough - I surely would go back again someday. There is a terrace above the sauna and jacuzzi that I used for yoga in the mornings which was serene. The sauna smells lovely - very natural and relaxing. The amenities are new, nice, and everything is easy to find. Steve the host is friendly, responsive and helpful. Things we enjoyed in the area: Sooke Potholes - go here in the summer for hiking and swimming Shirley Delicious Cafe - one of the best restaurants in Canada Sooke Brewing Co - yummy beers and a couple food trucks Ella Beach - walkable Whiffin Spit - nearby and gorgeous view of the Salish Sea Victoria BC - 45 min drive away and we rode our bikes around town <3

The perfect place to stay for a few days in the Sooke area, secluded and peaceful yet with easy access to local amenities. The inside space was spotless and has been thoughtfully designed and kitted out with quality equipment. And the deck, with its lovely view, is a great spot to end the day with a glass of wine or two. We will 100% return.
