Farmstay vacation rentals in San Carlos

If you are like me, always looking for views and sunsets don’t think twice! This comfortable little mountain home has by far the best views we have found so far in Monteverde. We usually head out at sunset time looking for a good spot but this stay we spent every evening watching the spectacular and ever changing panorama from our own front porch. Super comfortable beds and well equipped kitchen. Would like to add Waze will get you to the lower gate (search Casa del sol, Unnamed road). Just continue on the unpaved road and you will get there! Village is called Altos de Cebadilla.

An absolutely perfect way to experience the magic of the Costa Rican rain forest! Very lovely little cabin with all the basic needs for a great stay. We sat on the patio by the refreshing pool & watched a Toucan fly by & land in a tree. There are many lovely sounding birds all around & they gently awake you every morning. So many native plants and flowers surrounding the place. The two hammocks are so relaxing to swing in. Host was very responsive, within 15 minutes. Be sure to check out the Chico‘s restaurant which is just 800 m of the road. Cocktails and delicious food while you are surrounded by the rainforest.

We stayed at David's place as a couple. It is a very private grounds with two separate houses. A car should definitely be available. The view through the glass facade or even from the balcony to the volcano is fascinating. The balcony is very inviting to enjoy a cool drink or make yoga - great backdrop! There are also restaurants in the area, where I would recommend driving to La Fortuna (about 20-30m in travel time). The communication with David was impeccable, quick and friendly. Possible activities for active people in an environment of about 60 km: Hanging Bridges, Cavernas de Venado, Rio Celeste, Mirador El Silencio.

We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful home in La Fortuna! The highlight was definitely the stunning Arenal Volcano views—right in the backyard, it felt surreal. The location was perfect—close to all the best spots in La Fortuna, yet peaceful and private. The house itself was very clean, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The host was extremely responsive and helpful throughout. We would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area!

We loved our stay in Monteverde! Beth & Manolo’s place is so cozy we felt relaxed and at home. The view from the porch is incredible. Beth was super helpful in helping us with directions proactively to find the house safely (as the drive from La Fortuna is an adventure). Zaida greeted us with warm banana bread (as Beth was traveling). Manolo was a great host. We enjoyed a tour through the magical cloud forest with him as well as a night walk through a local reserve. He helped us spot three resplendent quetzal as well as a mom & baby sloth (amongst numerous other treasures). Book this Airbnb if you want to feel comfortable, safe, & enjoy Monteverde!

Amazing views, and so peaceful for being so close to downtown. 15/10 would recommend, and will definitely come back in the future. So well maintained. A great place to be if your looking to reset, and David was an amazing host ensuring we had everything we needed.

This was just an absolutely wonderful stay. The whole staff was absolutely amazing - it felt like we were in our own paradise in Costa Rica! The kids had so much fun in the pool, we did yoga and massages on the beautiful yoga deck, Joaquin gave us a wonderful tour of the gardens, Yadi made us amazing food - we would definitely stay here again! Beautiful property! My family loved our stay here. Listening to the forest & watching the birds from the back porch was a bonus. I'd definitely stay here again. We loved how peaceful it felt.

We spent 5 nights at Maria’s and can’t say enough positive things. The cabin is clean & perfect for 2. The deck was relaxing and the back yard provided great pictures of monkeys, lizards, & Toucans!! Maria’s hospitality & amazing cooking was the best part. We felt like a part of the family & well taken care of. I felt secluded yet safe. I would definitely return to her farm. Side note, this is a farm so you will hear cows & roosters but that never bothered us.

This place was absolutely perfect for what we needed for our family of 4. Our boys are teenagers and were fine sleeping in the room separate from the house. Everything was as expected and communication was great. Views were gorgeous as described. One of our most favorite stays in Costa Rica.

We really enjoyed our time in Monteverde. The location is exactly as pictured. The view of the mountains is incredible! And it is a very peaceful location, but only 15 minutes into town. Yamileth was helpful and met us when we arrived to ensure we knew which drive and how to locate the parking. I would recommend this location to anyone considering the Monteverde area.

We’ve stayed at some cool places over the years, but Casa Del Mono is one of my all-time favorites. It’s a perfect little getaway for anyone who wants to be close to nature but with all the comforts of home. It’s a very private property sitting way up the side of a mountain with a beautiful courtyard and hiking trails right out the front door. You simply cannot beat the view, and waking up to a chorus of birds like toucans, oropendolas, and tanagers was incredible (bring your binoculars)! The house itself is beautiful and well-equipped with everything you need. The kitchen is fully stocked, the bed is comfortable, and the shower/tub are gorgeous. It was everything we were hoping for in a Costa Rican stay, and I hope we get to visit again soon!

First and foremost, the view was absolutely incredible. We enjoyed eating breakfast on the porch or reading from the small pool with the scenery of this villa. Everything was exactly as described and was very clean. Cristina, the co-host, was responsive to all our messages/questions/concerns and was even able to provide room service. There were also horses out and about in the pastures behind the villa! The only downside to this place was the location. The roads are unpaved and hard to navigate, especially in the rain or dark. The location is pretty remote and far from any big towns, so be prepared to drive, even for groceries. The listing mentioned that you would need a 4x4, so be sure you have one, you’ll definitely need it. Otherwise, I have nothing bad to say! Overall, this place was great and we loved it. The hosts were very friendly and their property was extremely welcoming!

This airbnb was absolutely beautiful. I remember seeing it coming up and not realizing it was our place and then my boyfriend pulled into the driveway and i was so excited bc it had immediately caught my attention! the shower was to DIE for. Everything was so perfect and such a wonderful welcome to our first days here. It is perfectly located and the bedroom fan was actually perfect for keeping us cool at night. The windows,doors, shower everything was just absolutely beautiful and i loved the plants and flowers all around. You guys outdid yourselves truly, thank you so much for providing such a beautiful stay 🩷

Amazing place to stay with friends or family and close to La Fortuna downtown and the El Salto rope swing. Great backyard with grill and pool that is covered from the rain.

This is a mountain top oasis. We loved the view of the Arenal volcano from the infinity pool. The place was the perfect size for our two families. There was plenty of room for everyone. Mario was very attentive to our needs. We even got the opportunity to milk a cow and visit the farm. If you visit La Fortuna, you should consider staying here, you are close to town but still in the country.

There aren’t words for how magical Olingo is. The previous reviews regarding birding are accurate. The montezuma nests are really cool. The trails lead straight into the actual forest where there is one particularly large ficus. Everything in the home itself seems practically new. W/D work very well and you have every other amenity you could need, including local, eco-friendly toiletries. The beds were very comfortable and linens pristine white. In the evenings, rooms were comfortable with only the ceiling fan, but standing fans are provided as well. Evening temperatures were in the low 60s or below. Road is rough, but wouldn’t require 4WD. We honestly can’t wait to get back again and bring family to stay in the other units.

Our family came for the first time to Costa Rica and we are super thankful for the hospitality that Mauricio and his family had towards us. Every afternoon his mother came by and drop us some hand made bread. Her dad was always super friendly with our kids and provide us with the opportunity to feed the animals and shared some fresh eggs. Hospitality from this host has been nothing but exceptional!! Alba's cabin is great and set in a property with an exceptional garden. For our first time in Costa Rica, we loved the host, place and obviously the area. We look forward to coming back on a future trip. Recommended without a second thought. Special mention to Alba who is really adorable. Once again, thank you for everything.

The house could use a little TLC, some things didn’t work like the ice maker, speaker and dryer. Which didn’t bother us but if you’re a little pickier it may have been an issue. The pool was lovely and Danny the caretaker was on the ball! The village is small and quiet about an hour from tourist areas which I absolutely loved!
