Places to stay in Llangollen
A self-contained river-facing apartment 50m from the centre of Llangollen. There is direct access out onto the promenade and thence to all pubs, restaurants and cultural delights of the town. Llangollen appeals particularly to adventurous types (kayaking, climbing, walking, cycling etc.) but there are things to do for everyone no matter how energetic (or not) people feel. Above the apartment is the private house of the owners who are only too happy to help if you need them for any reason.
Superb views out over the River Dee and up to Castell Dinas Bran. On a sunny day there are few lovelier places on the planet. The flat itself is entirely self contained with a kitchen, a bathroom and a large, open-plan living space/bedroom.
Right on the River Dee - near to all the amenities of Llangollen and right next to the famous Corn Mill Pub. One of the nicest things to do is to walk up to Castell Dinas Bran and soak in the view of the Vale of Llangollen.
  • We have been meaning to visit Llangollen for some time, and could not have been happier with our stay in the basement at the Mount this weekend. The location was perfect, the accommodation homely and the hospitality was super. Access to the riverside path was a bonus, as was the wood burning stove. We were visiting to see the railway, but enjoyed so much more of the town than that. With so many places to go, who knows if we'll make it back to Llangollen, but if we do, we'll be hoping to stay here again.

  • Such a homely and cosy apartment in a perfect location with stunning views over the river. Highly recommend the Cornmill restaurant just a stones throw away. We loved our first stay here in Llangollen and would love to return to this pretty town and particularly this apartment in future. The welcome basket was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Communication with Paula was spot on. Thanks for a perfect relaxing birthday weekend :)

The Glade is a basic camping pod with double bed, sofa, fire pit and veranda in woodland high above the town of Llangollen with stunning views down the valley and across to the Castle. A quiet space to sit, watch nature and rest your legs at the end of the day. If drinking and loud music is your thing this may not be the place for you. The Hut is a steep 50m walk away from your car, so don't pack too much, you need to bring your own duvet/sleeping bags , we provide a bottom sheet and pillows.
The walk to the Glade is only to be undertaken by the hardiest of souls, it is STEEP, but once there, the solitude and views make up for it in every sense, the toilet block is a very strenuous 100 m away, so don't forget your tooth brush. You'll need a torch, good shoes and a camera It's quite likely you'll be joined by our Buzzards who regularly circle feet away from the Glade and if you sit still the rabbits and pheasants will undoubtedly come to join you. The Glade is shaded from the sun in the morning and insulated so you'll get to lie in without getting too warm or too cold. There is a fire pit, with an infinite supply of kindly. There are a number of piles of dead wood to use in the woodland, but we advise you buy a bag of logs from the hardware store in town, as you never quite know what the weather will be like in Wales and the wood may be wet! We have a toilet/shower block about 100 m away down the hill , with the centre of town only being a 7 min walk. If you don't have a vehicle and CAN'T bring your own duvet, let us know well in advance and we'll provide one for you.

  • A lovely night away. I thought the hill was going to be a lot worse than what it was! The hut is very clean and it was perfect just to getaway for a while and sit in front of the camp fire. Aldi is just down the bottom of the hill which is brilliant for convenience! We ordered a pizza, collected it and ate it by the fire. We arrived on the motorbike and the parking was very easy. Thank you to the hosts!

  • Beautiful place to wake up to! What a view! Exactly how it’s described so wear walking boots! Cold but super cosy once your in bed!

  • The Glade was what it said on the tin really. A clean little hut with a beautiful view. We were unfortunate that we had awful weather so didn’t get to explore as much as we would’ve liked (obviously couldn’t have been helped) but the small walk we did go on was lovely. Be aware that when it’s raining it steep slopes to get to the hut is extremely slippery and you will have to go down and up these slopes to go to the toilet/shower block.

  • We stopped off here on the way to a sponsored hike of Snowdon. Great for purpose and amenities were sufficient and well thought out. The icing on the cake was Janet was very accommodating of our request of allowing 3 dogs and there was no breed specific prejudice which was an absolute blessing. Would definitely recommend and would stay again!

    Rochelle2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • The Glade is the perfect place for a quick escape from reality. The hut was comfortable, clean and easy to find. Would definitely return!

    Emily2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had an enjoyable and hassle free stay at the Glade. Communication with Janet was always quick and easy, and the location was great for our overnight stop on the from London to Anglesey. The Glade was clean and comfortable on arrival, and cosy overnight. Views were great across the valley, even in the overcast weather. We enjoyed the rope up the hill as we didn’t have much luggage - the steep access was no issue, the toilet and shower were clean and walking distance from the main cabin. Llangollen was great to explore and we ate at the Corn Mill overlooking the river and falls on Janet’s recommendation - fantastic meal. We’d definitely stop over again on a trip to wales.

Barn converted in 2019! A cosy home with underfloor heating, woodburner, fully equipped kitchenette, private parking. 200m from steam train station, with a pub and canal just across the river. 1 mile from the centre of Llangollen which has many restaurants and activities.
Downstairs there is a hallway, living room with kitchenette, and a separate bathroom with shower. There is underfloor heating throughout the downstairs, a woodburner, and HD TV (currently no live TV but Netflix and other on-demand services available). Stairs lead up to the bedroom with king sized bed. Dog friendly. The barn has its own private driveway. The kitchenette has an oven/microwave, and fridge with freezer compartment. There is an outdoor plug which can be used to charge an electric car for a small additional charge (or type 1 7kW charger available at our house). We've listed it as not suitable for children due to the open staircase and fire, but please get in touch if you could like to bring a child. Early check-in or late check-out is usually fine if we don't have an immediate booking, please get in touch first to check.
We love being just a mile out out of Llangollen meaning we have easy access to town but it's a lot less busy. The Chainbridge pub is a 5 minute walk away and you'll hear the steam train chugging past! The barn is on a quiet lane, but does look over the A5 so you may get some road noise, especially if you have the windows open. Our post code is LL20 8AL.
  • Lovely stay at hen pandy barn last weekend! Place was very tidy upon arrival and a lot of information provided to help with stay. Underfloor heating was nice touch and helped to keep the place cosy alongside the fire. Easy to get in and out of town using bumble taxis. Will be back again soon.

  • We loved our stay here! So cosy, by the fire. Lovely little touches - cookies, milk, toiletries and Alexa there to tell us the news, give us the weather forecast and play our favourite tunes. All sparkling clean, spacious shower and large bed. Great location for Llangollen (lovely walk along canal path) steam train and Chainbridge hotel next to the river. Thank you Kay!

The toiletries provided were a nice touch, and the kitchen was very well equipped. 10/10 would definitely recommend. 1hr from Bala lake, 1+hr from Snowdonia and a short walk from Llangollen and a local Aldi store.

New and fully equipped modern apartment located in central Llangollen amongst shops and restaurants. The living area and roof terrace offer a cosy place to sit and enjoy the spectacular views of Llangollen.
This is a completely self-contained luxury apartment. There is one bedroom with a king size bed and one double sofa bed in the lounge area. There is a lovely bath/shower room. There is a large kitchen/dining room/ lounge area with vaulted ceiling and patio doors opening onto a roof top decking with outdoor seating, artificial grass and spectacular views.
Llangollen and its surrounding areas offer some fantastic walks and heritage sites to visit. The apartment is very central to the town centre and river but still quiet and hidden away.
  • Lovely Airbnb, very clean and stylish. Comfy bed too! Great location and the roof terrace is a nice touch. Just missing a couple of amenities for self catering. Would stay again!! Thank you :)

    Jessica2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Good location and nicely decorated modern apartment. Unusual for us, from all previous Airbnb experiences, to have no communication at all from hosts. But having a key box made no waiting for check in. Bring everything with you, as no little extras at all. You need tea and coffee, condiments, toiletries, and even your own dishwasher tablets. Also make sure you pack ear plugs if it’s forecast rain or high wind. And if you want a little background music there are no facilities for this, so bring a portable speaker. Llangollen is a beautiful little village to stay in with everything you need on your doorstep and adventure to be had if you like to walk.

    Gemma2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great view points from the flat including the river.

    Tony2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is in such a central location to Llangollen but also to other attractions around. Parking was easy outside but also there’s a huge car park across the road for free with the permit provided. The space is so modern and clean with lots of space. The outdoor area is lovely too. Everything about the place is clean and modern and spacious. Communication with the host was fantastic and very quick and helpful. Very impressed. Would definitely recommend.

Owl Cottage is a spacious two bedroom cottage, a perfect cozy country hideaway for couples, families & groups.
We have two well equipped holiday cottages in our recently converted 19th century barn. Owl Cottage is a spacious two bedroom cottage with one double and one twin bedroom. There is a fully fitted kitchen with ceramic electric hob & oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, washing machine and fridge / freezer. Both cottages enjoy breathtaking mountain views over the stunning Dee Valley. Our location in the countryside but near enough to town allows you to enjoy the best of both worlds; a relaxing break taking in the beautiful scenery, attractions and wildlife on the doorstep, or if you're feeling adventurous, a more active break - Llangollen has some of the best walking, mountain biking and canoeing routes in the country.
  • Everything was perfect!

  • A brilliant cottage to stay and visit Llangollen and the surrounding area. Spotlessly clean with great amenities and fantastic views high above the town. Martin is great host and super friendly. Highly recommended!!!

    Carl2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • A great place which is highly recommended, we always look for somewhere out of the way but near a town so we can go for something to eat or a coffee without driving too far and this place was perfect. Just outside of the town in the welsh hillside is a very modern, well looked after barn conversion. When we arrived Martin was straight out to greet us and give us the key, we went in to the property where milk, tea and coffee and local beers were provided! The cottage looks new and is very well maintained with all the amenities you could need. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in the town and a few little shops to wander around. We enjoyed our few days away and will definitely be back to stay here again!

    Dean2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Owl Cottage. Wonderful location with lots options for walks in the surrounding area. The cottage was cosy and we really appreciated the little extras Martin had provided. Thank you for a relaxing escape to the country!

    Georgie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely holiday cottage with everything you could possibly need throughout your stay. The cottage was lovely& warm and beds were extremely comfortable. Perfectly positioned in secluded area but with only a short driving distance into town. Great stay, thanks.

    Katrina2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and cosy cottage, beautiful surroundings and great host!

    Charlotte2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was brilliant. We have used airbnb for a few tears now, but this stay was the best so far. Martin had arranged all the thoughtful extras that are not always available at others: dishwasher tablets, milk, tea, coffee, staple ingredients in kitchen cupboards. Martin was brilliant when keeping in touch and was flexible with our check-out time. He even came to let us know the safest and best route back to the main road due to the frost. Many thanks. I’m sure we’ll be back!

Lovely little house right in the centre of town. Close to shops , bars and restaurants and just one minutes walk from the river. Sit in bed with a cup of tea and view the castle on top of the hill, or the steam trains in the station. All home comforts provided, toiletries, basic grocery essentials and wine to get you settled in ! Record player with vinyl provided. An eclectic mix of records . Dogs welcome.
Small but perfectly formed house . Newly decorated . Lovely main bedroom with double bed , attic room with two single beds. Well equipped kitchen. Bathroom with walk in shower. The attic bedroom is up very steep stairs, more of a ladder really , so only suitable for older children or agile adults.
Llangollen is a lovely town with lots to do and a lot going on. Go white water rafting, or take a trip on the steam train along the beautiful Dee valley. There are numerous great pubs, bars and restaurants and , of course , shops. Lovely walks are on the doorstep . Go along the canal or up to the castle. Beaches are an hour away, and Bala lake or Chester just 30 minutes.
  • Fantastic little quirky house with some nice touches left by the host, great location and a beautiful place, will definitely be booking again.

Hillside is a 1-bed, self-contained apartment sleeping 2 people. Located on the lower ground floor of Llanerch Farm, an 18thC farmhouse nestled above the Dee Valley in 16 acres of private countryside; it has its own private garden, well-equipped kitchen and gorgeous views.
Hillside is a newly-decorated, peaceful, self-contained, one-bedroom apartment situated on the lower ground floor of Llanerch Farm, an 18th century farmhouse located between Froncysyllte and Llangollen on the North Wales borderlands. Llanerch Farm is nestled in 16 acres of private land, with beautiful views of the stunning Dee Valley. We're lucky enough to be able to not only enjoy the UNESCO World Heritage site of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct from our windows, but also the 13th century Castell Dinas Bran (or "Crow Castle"), as well as a host of amazing wildlife. Hillside is a peaceful apartment which has been thoughtfully decorated and furnished to provide a flavour of contemporary Welsh farmhouse style and surroundings. It is well-equipped with everything you could need for a comfortable home-from-home, including free WiFi, kitted-out kitchen, dishwasher, Freeview TV/DVD player/HDMI cable, board games, USB sockets and printed information on places to visit, local eateries and lots of other useful stuff. Hillside's private rear garden with patio set and parasol is the perfect spot to watch the sun set behind the romantic ruins of Dinas Bran castle, whilst our peaceful resident ponies quietly graze in the surrounding fields. The bedroom has a super-comfy king-size bed. The pretty, bijou ensuite bathroom has a walk-in shower, toilet, hand basin and heated towel rail, plus fluffy towels and complimentary accessories - we've tried to think of everything you might have forgotten! Our area also has a great 4G phone signal.
We are located on quiet lane above the A5 between the 19thC village of Froncysyllte and ancient town of Llangollen. Type 'Llanerch Farm Froncysyllte' into Gmaps to see exactly where we are. Llangollen (a 10 minute drive away) is bustling with cafes, bars, restaurants and delis selling Welsh produce. Llangollen's world-renowned International Eisteddfod takes place every July, and the town also hosts annual comedy, music, food, walking and Christmas festivals too - to name but a few! In terms of shopping, Llangollen is super-handy for groceries and takeaways, and there is a Tesco Superstore a little over a mile away in Cefn. The border market towns of Oswestry and Wrexham are easily accessible (both just under 20mins by car), or if you fancy shopping 'til you drop, Chester and Shrewsbury are both a mere 30-40mins away by car. We are lucky to enjoy a fantastic choice of local walking routes across mountains, over moorland, along rivers and through woodland. The Panorama, Horseshoe Pass, Valle Crucis Abbey and Pistyll Rhaeadr/Ceiriog Valley walks are particularly popular. We're also situated on the A5 leading straight to the "Gateway to Snowdonia", so a great location to explore further into North Wales too. There's a superb range of adventure activities and experiences in Llangollen (including white water rafting and gorge walking), as well as caving, bungee jumping, canyoning and pony trekking in the area. As well as actually being able to see Castell Dinas Bran (a 13th century castle built on earlier ancient settlements) and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Pontcysyllte Aqueduct from Llanerch Farm; we are also very close to 13th century Chirk Castle (seat of the Myddletons), Plas Newydd (18thC home of the celebrated Ladies of Llangollen), and Erddig Hall, which offers a unique sense of below stairs life in a Victorian country house. Other great places to explore include Betwys-y-Coed and Snowdonia, Pistyll Rhaeadr (a stunning waterfall and one of the seven Wonders of Wales), the Ceiriog Valley, Ellesmere and environs, and the lovely Welsh coastal villages of Port Meirion and Port Madog. Our local native wildlife is hugely important to us and we are passionate about continuing to work to create a haven for the wild creatures we share our land with here. You can watch some of our beautiful wildlife from Hillside itself - binoculars and bird book provided! We also have a number of lovely nature reserves on our doorstep and black grouse lekking on the moorland across the valley. Our favourite visitors to Llanerch include peregrine falcons, partridges (listen out for their arresting, mechanical calls) and spotted flycatchers. We keep regularly-updated brochures, leaflets and information outlining all of this info in Hillside for our guests to browse through during their stay.
  • We had an amazing weekend in Llangollen, the place was immaculate, wonderful little touches to make you feel more at home, down to shampoo and conditioner provided, and even eat buds in the bathroom! They left Lewis a birthday cake as they knew we were having a trip away for his birthday, and everything was perfect. The instructions on location were accurate, it’s just a shame we don’t know how to navigate! 10/10 top hosts would absolutely recommend.

  • Wow! What a beautiful property in a stunning location! We loved our stay here and would love to return in the summer with the light nights and take advantage of the garden! We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed watching the ponies potter around :) The property is beautifully decorated and well maintained with everything you could need. Lora has thought of everything and we enjoyed a cosy night in one night playing board games and enjoying the peace and quiet! We were last minute due to another holiday being cancelled and the communication was fantastic. Check in was easy and we were settled in no time! Can’t wait to stay again!

    Victoria2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fabulous apartment in an amazing location. We could not fault the facilities and we had everything we needed for a comfortable and cosy couple of days.

    Judith2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay at Llanerch Farm (Hillside), would have loved to have stayed longer - the view from the house can't be beat, surely. The house was decorated beautifully and was perfectly clean throughout - it had everything we expected and more. Lora was helpful when arranging check-in at a time that suited us and the welcome notes/chocolates were a thoughtful gesture. All in all the perfect getaway for a weekend in Wales - for anyone wondering, Llangollen is a great base to explore North Wales. Thanks again to our hosts and we will be recommending to our friends and family.

  • This was our 3rd stay at Hillside, Llanerch Farm. We thoroughly endorse this beautiful place, it is a serene get away, set in a gorgeous hilltop setting with sensational views. It has everything you could need to be comfy and cosy whilst away from home. The whole place is sparkling clean and a joy to relax in. Lora and Barry are thoughtful and responsive hosts. 5 stars easily!

    Nicki2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a relaxing time in Lora's beautiful cottage. It was so clean and comfortable, the views were fantastic and we were made to feel very welcome. The little garden and the hanging baskets outside the bedroom window all looked great, even in November. Thank you again.

  • Fantastic location. Short walk into town along the canal and excellent access to the surrounding areas

    Neil2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • One of my favourite places to stay in Llangollen. It's right on the canal. Lovely and warm in the winter and the beds really comfy. Lots of thoughtful touches too and very welcoming.

    Bonnie2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy canal-side cabin with double bed & tea/coffee making facilities. Shower & toilet in separate small outbuilding next to the cabin. Bird feeder outside the window brings lots of small birds. Amazing views of surrounding hills.

  • This was our second visit to the beautiful dwelling of Karen and Chris. They are dear people and go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I highly recommend this stay. Can't wait to come back and see them again.

    Vanessa2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a superb, quirky place to stay! Very compact, but didn't spoil our stay. Karen the host was there to greet us, and was eager to say she was on call for any needs- although we didn't need anything from her. The situation is idyllic, with direct access to the canal towpath, and would be a lovely walk in daylight! (We walked into Llangollen- about 25minutes- in the dark, and it was a bit hairy! Glad we did it though.) The wet room is separate from the living space, but very close, and there is also access to a fridge, microwave etc, also outside. Bed is super comfortable, and there are fab views to wake up to. If you are looking for something 'different' then this is most definitely the place for you! Thank you, Karen!

Our early 1700's home backs onto the River Dee and is ideally situated being a couple of minutes from the town centre and within walking distance of many of the main tourist attractions. The large, comfortable guest room has ensuite shower facilities, double bed, sofa, tv and tea/coffee making facilities. Access to it is by a separate staircase allowing you the privacy to come and go as you please. You are welcome to share our decking area to relax, unwind and enjoy the stunning river views.
Our Grade 2 listed town house dates back to 1710 and has been our family home for nearly 30 years. We are ideally situated for exploring Llangollen and the surrounding area and for guests attending weddings in any one of the several wedding venues in this area. The room is one of two guest rooms listed on the Airbnb site (for other see Double Room, Riverside Location, Llangollen). Both rooms are accessed from the front hallway and are independent of access through the family's part of the house, allowing you the privacy to come and go as you please. This large comfortable room is situated at the front of the house overlooking Bridge Street, which houses some of Llangollen's oldest properties. The room is full of character with original oak beams, fireplace and cupboards. It has an ensuite shower room, comfortable double bed with quality bedding and bed linen, sofa, wifi, TV, digital radio and a walk in cupboard with tea/coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, hairdryer etc. You are welcome to share our outside space, a large decking area overlooking the River Dee with great views of Llangollen Bridge (One of the Seven Wonders of Wales) and St Collen's Church. Feel free to relax and unwind with a cuppa, beer or bottle of wine whilst you spot the local wildlife, watch the whitewater rafters and canoeists or even fish. We have fishing rights and guests keen on fishing are welcome to use these during their stay! Whilst I confess to knowing nothing about fishing I have been told by a couple of guests that the stretch of Dee behind the house is a gem for fly fishing! There is no parking outside the property, so parking is on the surrounding streets or in one of the several car parks within a few minutes walk from the house. The Church car park is a minute’s walk away through the Church Yard (entrance on Regent St) The long stay car park on East St is a 3 minute walk away as is the short stay car park on Market St.
Llangollen has something for everyone. Within a couple of minutes of leaving the house you can be in the town centre with it's restaurants, cafes, tea rooms, bakerys, pubs, various shops and outward bound activity centres. We are also within walking distance of some of the main tourist attractions, which include the stunning Riverside Walk, the Heritage Steam Railway, the Horse Drawn Canal Boats, Plas Newydd, Castell Dinas Bran, The Horse Shoe Falls and Valle Crucis Abbey. For the adventurous there are activities such as whitewater rafting, kayaking, canoeing, gorgewalking, rock climbing and abseiling. You can also hire bikes or pull on your walking boots to explore the stunning local scenery, take a walk along the canal or you can choose to take an open topped bus tour to the Horseshoe Pass and Thomas Telford's Aqueduct in Pontcysyllte, an UNESCO World Heritage site. If you enjoy fishing, please feel free to bring your rods and take advantage of our fishing rights directly behind the house.

  • I was looking for a room in central Llangollen and found it. Sally-Ann was an excellent and friendly communicator, check-in worked well and the room was delightful - good quality furnishings in an interesting old house. There was a good selection of drinks and snacks and everything was sparklingly clean. Access to the decking is a bonus, giving you an opportunity to sit and watch the river go by whilst being in the middle of the town. Highly recommended!

Llantysilio Hall, built in 1876, is one of the finest country houses in Denbighshire, North Wales, just outside the town of Llangollen. The natural setting is enchanting. The site is on the bank of the River Dee next to the historic Horseshoe Falls and the Llangollen Canal (a World Heritage site). All guests are welcome with no exception.
The House is quite large and can currently accommodate 20 plus guests comfortably. Bedrooms are of different sizes with free use of some of the common areas in the house. Certain rooms will be kept out of use to active small children. Inspite of it being a large house it is homely and not at all intimidating, and caters for large groups as well as small families and friends. Inspite of it being a large house it is homely and not at all intimidating, and caters for large groups as well as small families and friends. We are not licensed to serve meals. However, guests are welcome to use the modern kitchen facility should they decide to cook their own meals. If guests choose to eat out there are plenty of restaurants nearby, and for a taste of excellent local food guests might like to try the Corn Mill on the River Dee, only a 6-minute car ride from the Hall. Some guests prefer to use caterers, which is fine by us.
Being on the bank of the River Dee, the site is adjacent to the historic Horseshoe Falls and the Llangollen Canal (a World Heritage site). The area offers a multitude of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, white water rafting, canoeing and climbing. For a less energrtic activity, a walk down to the river from the Hall and then onto the Horseshoe Falls passing by the old Llantysilio Church, is advisable. Also a ride on the Llangollen steam railway or a horse-drawn boat trip on the Llangollen Canal. Llangollen is also home to the International Musical Festival, the Eisteddfod held in July each year, where a young Pavarotti once performed his first ever international concert.

  • This place is amazing, was beyond our expectations and full 5 stars is deserved. The host is very helpful. Would stay again.

    Alex2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Huge thanks to both Lama and Sal, they really couldn’t have been more helpful. We had the most spectacular weekend, everyone was blown away by the property - the pictures really don’t do it justice - and the surrounding areas are stunning. We will definitely be making a repeat visit! The house was very warm and the beds extremely comfortable. As in reviews below the house is at its best when you and your group have exclusive occupancy and the 4.5 bathrooms aren’t a problem if some people shower in the morning and others in the evening. My group and I don’t have a bad thing to say about the house or our trip and we can’t wait to do it all again.

    Ellie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

    Cameron2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This spot is even more picturesque than the pictures, if possible! The Hall is impressive and the surrounding countryside is gorgeous. A unique stay on our road trip and one we won't soon forget.

  • A fantastic house for a large group of guests. We hired out the house exclusively and it was the perfect size for 15 adults, 5 toddlers and 3 babies. All bedrooms are a really good size and big bathrooms with powerful showers!! I was concerned that being such a large house it might be cold, however this was not the case and it was really well heated throughout! The kitchen was brilliant for cooking for a large number and the dining room a fantastic size!! Sal was lovely and helped with suggestions on how to get to the local village. Would recommend to any big group looking for a weekend getaway in a beautiful part of Wales!! Llangollen has some lovely shops, pubs and restaurants. Thanks for a lovely New Year!!

    Collette2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We hired Llantysilio Hall for our family reunion. There were 20 of us staying and the Hall was just perfect. We had hired the whole place for our group and couldn't have asked for anything more. The rooms were stunning, and there was no problems accommodating everyone with plenty of bathrooms to go around. We loved sitting around the massive dining table under the huge chandelier. The kids (and adults) had a blast on the flying Fox (zipline) outside. Thank you for letting us stay in this magnificent place, if we can all come back again one day we will!!!

Stairs from the living area lead down to the bedroom which is lovely and bright thanks to the windows which run across one entire wall, giving 180 degree views over the garden and Llangollen beyond. The bedroom has a separate dressing area and a contemporary shower room which is very spacious. There are patio doors from the bedroom leading onto a private decked patio which is the ideal place for enjoying your morning coffee or dining on a warm summer’s evening. As well as the great facilities that are already provided, the property also benefits from a hairdryer, an iron, ironing board and a delightful welcome basket with local produce. Although Kinnaird occupies a peaceful location, it is just a short walk into the centre of Llangollen with all of the town’s amenities such as bars, pubs, shops and restaurants right on your doorstep. There are many cultural events held in Llangollen throughout the year including theatre productions, festivals, cabaret and concerts. In July Llangollen hosts the annual International Musical Eisteddfod which brings in over 12,000 visitors. Llangollen is a walker’s paradise with many pleasant walks in and around the town including walks along the canal, Horseshoe Falls and Offa’s Dyke. The stunning Horseshoe Pass is just half a mile from the property. Part of a World Heritage Site, Llangollen is located on the River Dee and dates back to the 7th Century. There are several interesting and historic buildings in and around Llangollen including Crow Castle (Castell Dinas Bran), the 13th Century Valle Crucis Abbey and Plas Newydd. Thomas Telford’s Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, which carries the canal 126ft over the River Dee, is also worth visiting. Llangollen Railway is the only standard gauge heritage railway in North Wales. Steam or diesel trains operate regularly from the centre of Llangollen to Corwen, a relaxing 10-mile journey. Other activities available locally include fishing, golf and clay pigeon shooting. For the more adventurous there are several companies that organise outdoor activities such as white water rafting, kayaking, canoeing, gorge walking, abseiling and rock climbing. Whilst Llangollen has a lot to offer it is also well placed for visiting lots of other places too and makes a great base for a touring holiday. The National Trust has several properties within a short drive including Chirk Castle, 7 miles, and Erdigg Hall, 10 miles. Other places of interest within easy driving distance include Ruthin, 16 miles, Snowdonia, 32 miles, the Victorian seaside town of Llandudno and the Great Orme, 46 miles. Cross the border into England, it’s just 24 miles to Chester, around an hour’s drive to Liverpool or 30 miles to the market town of Shrewsbury.

Popty Pennant is an old bakehouse in the grounds of an historic seventeenth century upland manor house on the Chirk Castle estate at the head of a secret valley, part of the Ceiriog Valley, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
Popty Pennant is a tiny cottage - a converted bakehouse with stone flagged floor, beamed ceiling, white washed walls and an old cast iron range with open fire and stove. It's furnished with traditional antique pieces, a couple of comfortable arm chairs and a scrubbed top table. The cosy crog-loft bedroom with comfortable double bed looks down on to sitting room and open fire. The kitchen has an old dresser, full size oven, microwave and fridge and is fully equipped. There is also a modern shower room.
Plas Pennant is sited within the Chirk Castle estate, within the Ceiriog Valley and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The farmstead is at the head of what feels like a very remote valley but it is only 2.5 miles from Llangollen, which can be reached on foot along an old drovers road. The National Trust's Chirk Castle is only a mile away as the crow flies and the surrounding countryside offers some lovely walks, some great traditional pubs and opportunities to go cycling, horse riding etc. The World Heritage Site Pontcysyllte Aquaduct is also in the adjoining Dee Valley and within walking distance of Pennant. Guests often have trips out to Snowdonia, visiting the coast at Harlech and attractions such as Port Merion, the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railway and the World Heritage Site Edward I castles at Caernarfon, Conwy, Harlech and Beaumaris.
  • small but perfectly presented property in a beautiful and interesting location

    Frances2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Whether you plan on a short weekend stay or a long visit as I did, you will find Popty Pennant a cosy and charming home for one or two. Walks up to the ridge for views over Llangollen or down to the Ceiriog valley floor will help whet your appetite for good meals in or out. The well equipped kitchen and Sainsbury’s delivery worked wonders for Solstice, Christmas and New Year’s festive menus. When visitors came, we found The Hand in Llanarmon to match Nick’s hearty recommendation: exceptional hospitality even for our group’s 18 month old and excellent food and ale. Nick has created a very special place on this south-facing slope with beautiful views over the green hills and fantastic glowing sunrises and sunsets even in the not-bleak midwinter. It will be many years before I forget this calm and peaceful New Year’s Day 2020, sitting out in the sun from dawn to dusk, comfortably settled on the elegant 18th century terrace with such a glorious view. Thank you, Nick, for a lovely visit.

    Carolyn2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Popty is a tiny piece of getaway from it all heaven. It is like stepping back in time with the luxury of modern amenities such as Wifi, a hot powerful shower and fully equipped kitchen. Popty is set within breathtaking countryside, beautiful views with only the sounds of nature to listen to. Llangollen and Chirk are only a 10 min drive away. We will definitely be returning.

    Richard2019-11-05T00:00:00Z
  • A cosy cottage full of character, had a lovely time. A scenic and relaxing location, open fire was a bonus.

    Elgan2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great four nights in a fantastic location. Nick and Derek are friendly hosts. Would recommend.

    Colin2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Warm and comfortable home from home, small but perfectly formed with everything needed easily to hand. Lovely to wander the lanes and listen to the silence . Great if you love animals too as there are horses, dogs, chickens and ducks to make friends with. Chirk Castle is nearby and highly recommended and in better weather it would have made a pleasant walk. Lots of other interesting places to visit nearby but just being there in such a lovely setting may be enough.

    Craig2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Richards place is quiet clean and comfy. The views are amazing and Richard was happy to leave us to it but there if we needed him. The place is good value for money and it was pretty much exactly what I expected it to be. The dog had a lovely time and it’s easy to look after a dog in that space. Internet was no problem and there was an abundance of hot water. There are towels, an iron, a hairdryer all the things I can never be bothered taking and then miss. The village is roughly 5/10 minutes drive depending on your level of country lane at height bravery . We walked the dog down one day and it took about an hour. Didn’t walk back the hill might have killed me never mind her! The 1 bed cottage gave me everything I needed for a hideaway break.

    Liz2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at the cottages. The views are incredible, located less than 2 miles from Llangollen town. Richard even brought round a little freezer so we could have ice with our drinks. Would definitely recommend and we will be booking again.

  • ABSOLUTELY STUNNING 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟, I booked the shepherd's hut for my Hubby's birthday, we arrived to a lovely little hamper and birthday card. The hut was warm & cosy for our arrival and the hot tub was ready, this place was way more then what i was expecting, really is AMAZING. Beautifully styled in side and out with the little touches i like to see. We went in to Llan for cocktails & a take out and enjoyed it back at the hut, The view over the valley was stunning at night from the hot tub. We loved our stay & can't wait to come again. Thanks to Mike & his wife for being great hosts.

  • Really enjoyed our stay at this shepherd's hut which was a birthday gift for my myself and my boyfriend. The location has amazing views over Llangollen and is just a 10 minute walk to the town centre. Mike was very accommodating and on-hand for anything needed. We used the hot tub for at least 2 hours and enjoyed a bottle of prosecco overlooking Llangollen. This place has everything you need and more, highly recommended. Thank you very much to the Shepherd's hut team .

    Serena2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We were met on arrival by Mike and given a tour of the hut and hot tub. The host also ensured that we had everything we needed and offered his knowledge of the area. The huts are spacious, immaculately clean and equipped with everything you would need for a relaxing stay. The hot tubs are private, spotless and positioned so as to take advantage of the inspiring views of the valley. Mike couldn't have done more to make our stay more enjoyable, even going as far as setting the log burner for us whilst we away walking in the hills. A beautiful stay in an incredible location!

  • Paul was so welcoming. The house is beautiful and in a great location for exploring the town! If you want somewhere quiet to stay, this is it. I am used to living in a town centre, and this was perfect! The room was lovely and the bed was heaven! Even had a little cuddle with the resident pooch when I got in! Would definitely return. Thanks, Paul :)

This listing is dedicated to discounted homestay on weekdays. Our other listing 'Grand Homestay at Llantysilio Hall' allows for group homestay on weekends.
The House is quite large and can currently accommodate 22 plus guests comfortably. Bedrooms are of different sizes with free use of some of the common areas in the house. Certain rooms will be kept out of use to active small children. Inspite of it being a large house it is homely and not at all intimidating, and caters for large groups as well as small families and friends.
  • As a group we had a fantastic time at Llantysilio Hall. Lovely historic setting and a huge beautiful house. Everything was spotlessly clean and the beds and bedding were really comfortable. Accommodation was great and would highly recommend.

  • Brilliant cosy cottage! The photos really dont do it justice. We stayed for two nights and it was a manageable distance to snowdonia, so perfect for our walking and wild swimming we had planned. Perfect for a romantic getaway.

  • Kay’s cottage is super cute and cosy. It may have been vile weather outside but all tucked up inside we had no idea! Kay’s thought of everything and even left some treats out for our doggo. Couldn’t recommend enough!

We stayed during Storm Dennis yet you'd not know iit. The cottage is so warm and cosy especially with the log burner. Thanks for a great stay

  • A smashing little cottage for our short break. About a 10 minute drive from the MTB trail centre at Llandegla. Great directions, entry to property worked entirely as described. Lovely clean cottage - very comfortable and we appreciated all the thoughtful touches that made it a 'home from home' for our short stay.

  • A gem of a place. A hassle free stay in a clean, cosy Welsh cottage. I was even surprised by a Christmas tree and other festive touches. I would definitely recommend. An excellent base for visiting friends and family in Llan and Wrecsam.

  • As always, a lovely stay in a warm, cosy cottage. home from home.

    Stephanie2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a place to stay away from the norm, where you want to sleep in and not be bothered, then you've found the place. Kay has made "a cozy weekend by the fire with nothing to do" into a reality. She has thought of every possible detail. You simply need to show up with food and friends, then do whatever you please until you leave. The space was perfectly cozy for three. She is very accommodating and incredibly responsive. Would recommend if you're looking to get away to the countryside and do absolutely nothing but relax and enjoy the company you are with.

  • The Studio is great, the pictures don't do the size of the property justice! The wetroom is great, with a tiled floor and splash back, provided soap dispenser, touch-active mirror and plenty of toilet roll for your stay. The main room features a 6ft5 squared bed (Emperor) 6 pillows and a great mattress and quilt which we found was very comfortable. The SMART television provides access to live TV, catch up and even Netflix (you will need your own account though!) Whilst quite hidden away, the gated property and it's surroundings make it feel like a very homely place, there are plenty of local amenities with a 5 minute drive. Chester zoo is within a hour too! I certainly feel like we'll be visiting again in the future, thank you!
