Places to stay in Llangammarch Wells
Set at the foot of the Epynt mountains a few minutes walk from the village of Llangammarch Wells, this comfortable 200 year old cottage puts you at the heart of nature - you can enjoy walking, mountain biking, riding and a host of outdoor activities. (Please note - contact the host for special offers on stays from 4 to 6 nights as Airbnb pricing doesn't allow it automatically. Also, if you have kids 18 and under, please add them as infants (under 2) so you won't be charged extra for them).
Ceiros Cottage provides you with a total escape from the stresses of daily life. The cottage has been tastefully refurbished to give you a cosy rural retreat with all the modern conveniences you need. Only a few minutes from the village of Llangammarch Wells, you can walk to the local pub, post office/shop and the beautiful river Irfon.
Mid Wales gives you everything from majestic mountains and ancient monuments to extreme sports. Llangammarch Wells is a village in the parish of Irfon Valley in Powys, mid Wales, within the historic County of Brecnockshire. The village is on the Heart of Wales train line, which connects this idyllic hide away to the rest of the world and it lies on Route 43 of the National Cycle Network. It is the smallest of the spa towns of mid Wales, alongside Llanwrtyd Wells, Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells. The spa was focused on a barium well, which is now closed, but the village is still popular with visitors and anglers. It was also famed for the horse fairs that were held here. The old village is centred around the parish church of St Cadmarch. There are two hotels, one houses the local pub and restaurant, a Post Office/village shop, St Cadmarch’s church and the Nazareth Methodist Chapel. Nestled in the foothills of Mynydd Epynt, Llangammarch Wells is a very rural community. The land around is largely moorland or agricultural, the latter used for livestock farming. It is close to the Epynt Way, a fantastic resource for walkers, cyclists and riders with its waymarked routes and stunning scenery, and is 8 miles from Builth Wells, the home of the Royal Welsh Show.

Little Pudding Cottage is a beautiful example of the classic country hideaway. Nestled in the Welsh countryside, just into the Cambrian Mountains, it enjoys the splendour of nature and peaceful calm of times past. The accommodation is full of character and original charm, while maintaining the modern comforts of home. With its own garden, this former shepherd's cottage is surrounded by rugged hills and an unspoilt rural landscape at the very end of a single-track road. The perfect rural retreat!
The detached cottage is very remote and you really do feel like you are getting away from it all. There are plenty of walks on the doorstep where you are very unlikely to meet another person. The conservatory gives you spectacular views whatever the weather, whilst the summerhouse is the perfect place to have a glass of wine and watch the sunset.
The cottage is surrounded by farmland and 17,500 acres of National Trust Moorland and so totally private and secluded.
  • I would like to say this is the best cottage we have ever stayed at .Such a wonderful place to reset away from the modern world , we really enjoyed the remote location and amazing walks from the door . We spotted wild horses on the moor from the cottage ! LPC is our idea of heaven and we hope to be lucky enough to return time and time again .

    Jon2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • Believe the reviews, this is a fabulous cozy cottage in the most stunning location. The weather was against us but we still managed walks from the front door every day. We were lucky enough to meet the brother of a chap who was born in LPC in the 40s and they both used to shepherd here. Great stories, great landscape, great place all round. Enjoy.

  • Little Pudding Cottage is as charming as it looks, if you want to escape the rat race but just can't quite live without satelite TV and Wi-Fi. The cottage has boatloads of Olde world charm with double glazing, insulation, gas, electricity, running water and ful bathroom. The cupboards are full of all the neccesary pots, pans, books and cleaning equipment, there is a good supply of logs for the burner, comfortable beds and furniture etc. etc. etc. Every care has been taken to make your stay an unforgettable one.

    Peter2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • Little Pudding Cottage is exactly as described. It is a beautiful and cute cottage loctated in spectacular and peacful surroundings. My wife, 2 children and dog had a marvellous time walking, relaxing and sitting by the fire. The cottage is comfortable with everything you need and you have seemily endless countryside to explore by foot. You are also close to many other attractions such as the Elan Valley or Brecon Beacons. Jon's communication was first class throughout making our stay very easy and allowing us to feel relaxed about the process from booking, arriving and leaving. We would recommend Little Pudding Cottage to anyone.

Waun Yscir is perfectly situated in the tranquil Yscir valley, just a 15 minute drive from the pretty market town of Brecon. Waun Yscir was lovingly converted in 2009 to a very high standard. Located on our family farm, away from the hustle and bustle, it’s the ideal place to ‘get away from it all’. You can enjoy panoramic views of the countryside whilst relaxing in the hot tub and enjoy your time admiring the stars in our clear skies. There's no better place to be in the world than here.
Waun Yscir is fully equipped with everything you need for a peaceful and restorative break. There is a fantastic king size bed in the master bedroom, where you can enjoy views of the surrounding countryside without even getting out of bed! The woodburner is a great bonus on those cold winter nights when you can draw the curtains and snuggle up in front of a warm fire. Alternatively a dip in our open air hot tub is sure to warm the cockles! There are some lovely walks right on the doorstep which are much less frequented than the central Beacons' footpaths.
Waun Yscir enjoys a truly fantastic location in completely unspoilt countryside. Brecon, Builth Wells and the Eppynt hills are a stone's throw from here. Please note that if it snows we can be completely inaccessible so please keep an eye on the weather during the winter. We have a tractor and a 4x4 just down the road so we can always help if needed.
  • The house is set in beautiful rural Wales, with stunning views. The property was immaculate and the grounds very well kept. Great directions from the host which certainly made it much easier to find along with super easy check in. We would highly recommend this little escape from the rat race and would certainly consider returning in the future!

  • Just back from a wonderful long weekend. Becky and Sean were great hosts, even managing to save our Sainsburys food order from heading back to the depot when we were late arriving! The house was beautifully clean and cosy, the log burner and hot tub were the icing on the cake. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to the Brecons! Thank you Becky and Sean x

Why not get away from it all and treat yourself to a nourishing stay in our secluded luxury self-catering en-suite shepherd hut, called "Noddfa" (Welsh for 'retreat'). Recharge your batteries in the wonderful Welsh landscapes that surround you. Nature-lovers will find treasures here. The surrounding garden is planted to attract birds and pollinators. Recent sighting include barn owls, redstarts, red-polls, tree-creepers, yellow-hammers, hares to name but a few.
Noddfa is a luxury 18ft shepherd hut with a difference.... her bed can be configured in a number of different ways to suit our guests. Whether you are on holiday, working in mid-Wales, or needing a place to contemplate, study or write, Noddfa's flexible space can be tailored to your needs. Her default setting is the traditional shepherd hut arrangement with the comfortable king-size bed tucked cosily in the far end. However, upon prior request, the bed can be turned to allow equal access for both sleepers. It can also be split to make twin beds for those who prefer their own space. And for those travelling alone who would like more space, it can be set up with a single bed and desk. Whatever your preference, your bed will be made up with high thread-count natural bedding. You have your own plumbed-in WC and shower room, electric heating, a fully equipped mini-kitchen, a wood-burning stove and hand-made wool, alpaca and silk blankets for that extra cosy factor! Outside, you have a private South-facing deck with far-reaching views over the surrounding countryside, a small patio, gas barbecue, parasol and fire-pit. If you choose to use the wood-burner or the fire-pit, a box of fire-wood is available for £5. To complete your well-being experience, our beautiful studio space, Studio-W, is available for your use for a small fee, subject to availability. It is perfect for contemplation, meditation or personal practice. Bespoke yoga sessions are also available by arrangement.
There are lovely quiet, country walks right from the door, you will be unlikely to see another person! We are within easy reach of the Brecon Beacons (30 mins drive), The Elan Valley (20 mins drive), Hay on Wye for Hay Festival (30mins drive) and Royal Welsh Showground in Builth Wells(10 mins drive). Come and stay with us while attending festivals, shows or events, or while working in Mid-Wales, or simply be in the soul-nourishing landscapes.
  • Rose is a kind and responsive host who was in close communication with us from the very beginning. The hut is well kept and well located with some beautiful active bird feeders out the front!

    Ian2020-02-20T00:00:00Z

    Emma2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Rose's place! It was warm, comfortable and cosy despite it being a cold and rainy November weekend. The space is very cleverly designed to fit everything and still feel spacious enough for 2 people. We only wish we could have stayed longer and will hopefully be back in the summer to enjoy the bbq!

    * New luxury cedar wood Hot Tub installed ! * * Big discount for week-long bookings ! * Mill House is a quaint detached stone cottage, private and quiet, with exposed beams, a real fire, oak stable doors, fibreoptic wifi, comfy sofas, riverside balcony and a new luxury cedar wood hot tub installed on the patio! All rooms enjoy beautiful views of the river and fields opposite. Ideal both as a romantic retreat or a base for family holiday fun! In March 2017, Mill House was recommended by the Countryfile website as a great place to stay, in an article by Carys Matthews about the Brecon Beacons National Park. The cottage was also named as #2 out of the top 19 dog-friendly cottages across the whole of Wales in an article published on the WalesOnline website in May 2017. A "welcome pack" with milk, coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits or cake, (and wine for week-long stays) is provided free of charge. A starter pack of logs is provided free of charge. Additional logs or charcoal are available at local petrol stations, supermarkets and hardware stores. Bed linen, bath / hand towels and guest soap are all provided for all beds . The cottage is in a small hamlet 5 miles north of Brecon, surrounded by wonderful views of the Brecon Beacons and the Black Mountains. Lots of lovely walks direct from the door. The area is stunning and ideal for bird watching, trips along the canal, red kite feeding, horse riding, waterfall visits, cycling and mountain biking. The rivers Wye and Usk flow nearby with their tributaries offering a large choice of fishing beats. Outdoor centres nearby offer activities including canoeing, boating, caving and rock climbing. Guest information packs in the cottage cover local amenities, activities and walks, there is an excellent Tourist Information Centre next to Morrrison's supermarket in Brecon, and the main Beacons National Park visitors' centre is a short drive away. There are plenty of local pubs and restaurants selling good quality local food and drink to sample too!
  • We really enjoyed staying in Sian's lovely comfortable home. It is beautifully positioned by the river, a very relaxing and peaceful place, the log burner was a great asset at this time of year!

    Carol2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Sians place is beautiful, I would totally recommend to anyone wanting an off the grid getaway. The balcony that sits above the river that runs directly behind the house is such a lovely space for a tea or hot chocolate after a morning walk. Due to some poor weather we didn’t get to walk and explore the local area as much as we would have liked, however there were ample amenities within the house to keep us occupied including some board games, TV and of course the hot tub. Sian was very quick to respond and resolved any issues we had effectively. Check in and check out was really simple. If you have a slightly bigger car, the car parking immediately outside the house may be a bit tight, however there is a space across the road to use. Overall, we all loved our stay at Sians place. Thank you!

    Charlotte2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Had a fab weekend. Loved the log burner, nice big size and the logs were appreciated. Very cosy in the evening, especially as we had freezing temperatures. The hot tub was a treat! Well equipped kitchen and very comfy double bed. Sian has left lots of info on things to do in the area. We did 2 of the walks from the books there. Stunning countryside and views. Brecon is a lovely town with everything you may need and just a short drive from the cottage. Such a peaceful and relaxing time. Would love to return in the summer months to sit on the balcony, soak up the sun and just watch the river flow.

Positioned off a private drive & half a mile from the nearest road, we have designed & built a romantic en-suite shepherd's hut that we hope will be the perfect place from which to explore the Brecon Beacons or to simply relax and admire the breath taking views of Pen-y-Fan thanks to its position at 800 ft above sea level. Please note, the hut is 4 MILES from Brecon where you’ll find supermarkets & pubs etc. - there are none in the village! There is NO WIFI, but most networks get decent 3/4G.
We have built "The Acorn" at the end of my in-laws paddock which is 150m from their house. (We live at the bottom of the drive),It is surrounded by farmland and has its own little enclosed garden and parking area. We have designed it to cater for two people. There is however the possibility that we could accommodate a two man tent in certain circumstances - please contact us regarding this. There will be an additional charge. The hut is beautifully cosy, as it is insulated and has 2 radiators. It has a double bed with sprung mattress and all linen is provided. (There is additional space at the foot of the bed to cater for those over 6 feet tall!) There is an en-suite with proper flushing toilet, basin, shower, towel rail and fluffy towels. There's a fitted kitchen with microwave, (microwave omelette maker & egg boiler). Slow cooker (& recipe book), toaster, small fridge (in the shed there is also a cool box and on request we can supply ice-packs), kettle & sink with hot and cold running water. There's complimentary tea/coffee & milk. There is a TV, with no signal but plenty of DVD's. There are electric sockets & even some speakers that you can plug your devices in to. Outside there is a fire pit which doubles up as a BBQ along with a seating area. There is parking for 2 cars (6 metres from the hut) and a storage shed for bikes etc or for drying clothes.
Within walking distance: There is a roman fort, hill top fort, a church and a river to paddle in & Aberyscir Common. Sadly we don’t own any of the land surrounding the shepherd’s hut, so don’t advise you wonder off across the fields. On a Wednesday during winter, they hold a pheasant shoot in the field below the hut. This tends to last no longer than 30 minutes or so. 1.3 miles away is Cradoc Golf Club, with its stunning course and great food. The closest amenities are in Brecon, which is a 10 minute drive away. There you will find: 3 supermarkets, cinema, theatre, chemists, post office, outward bound shops, pubs, restaurants, hospital, canal, river with paddle boats, military museum, sports centre and bike hire shop. Within 25 miles: Pen-y-Fan (South Wales' highest peak) The Big Pitt (coal mine) Brecon Mountain Railway Penderyn Distillery Dan-yr-Ogof caves Waterfall walks Abseiling & Rock climbing centres Horse riding / trekking Hay Literacy Festival (May) Abergavenny Food Festival (September) Brecon Jazz Festival (August) Builth Agricultural Show and lots lots more!
  • Great accomodation with an absolutely amazing view! Very secluded and private, which means you really get the feeling off being alone at the foot of the mountains.

    Tom2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful spot. Great cosy hut with thoughtful touches. Felt like a lovely private space with amazing views. A perfect base for a walking holiday or just a place to get away from it all.

    Jimmy2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The Acorn was a perfect getaway for exploring the Brecon Beacons! Such a snug, stylish and comfortable place in amazing surroundings. Loved the thoughtful touches (the mini welsh cakes were amazing!) and the bed was so comfy! We loved stargazing in front of the firepit with a drink to keep us warm. Thank you so much Sophie and Tim for a great stay, we will be back!

    Sophie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Where to begin. What a fantastic place. Spotlessly clean inside and out with beautifully fresh smelling bedding and towels. The attention to detail is second to none, every little thing has been thought of from ice cubes and milk in the fridge, to marshmallows for the fire pit. It’s the perfect base for exploring Brecon and the views of Pen-Y-Fan are going to be hard to beat. There’s nothing quite like waking up and seeing the rolling hills and mountains from bed. Sophie’s hospitality is 5 star. Would highly recommend.

    Matthew2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! It's sad because we didn't been lucky with weather, but overall everything was perfect. Also Sophie is amazing host!

    Julius2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The ‘Acorn’ is an amazing place to stay, in a really special private spot. I was a bit concerned about staying in such a small hut 800 metres above sea level with storm Dennis arriving, the communication from Sophie reassured me, the hut it so well built it didn’t even wobble in the high winds. Sophie added some nice touches before our arrival which made it extra special, we hope to return in the summer.

    Tom2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful getaway for relaxation. Loved all the personal touches Sophie put out. Looking forward to booking my next stay! X

The cabin is located near to the owner's cottage, but is very private, and has it's own garden area with space for an extra tent. No other properties are visible from the cabin. Well behaved dogs are welcome by arrangement, and must be kept on a lead at all times outside the cabin. The cabin is unheated during the summer months, early autumn and late spring, but there are plenty of blankets and hot water bottles to keep guests warm on chilly evenings. Interaction with host is as required by the guests. Stunning scenery, wildlife, wild swimming, mountain walking or biking, fabulous drives, and starry starry nights. Excellent pub food three miles away. The cabin is rural so a car, bike or bicycles are a necessity. Private parking is available.

  • We are two young professionals who left the comfort and security of the West Midlands for our first romantic getaway. What could be better than staying in a cosy cabin surrounded by glorious nature and outstanding scenery? Between Google maps and Janine’s instructions, we had no problems finding the location. Upon arrival, Janine welcomed us and showed us around our abode for the next two nights. After all our travelling, like many others before us, we indulged in Janine’s delicious Welsh cakes which lived up to the description left in previous reviews. After settling in, our survival instincts kicked in and we lit a fire in the fire pit. We had brought with us three large bags of kindling, a box of fire lighters and a lighter. We later discovered that we only needed two bags of kindling because we only cooked on the fire pit twice, each evening. However we had to drive to a shop to get more firefighters. (Top tip: don’t leave your lighter out in the rain overnight or this will be added to your shopping list). Cooking on the fire pit was a lovely experience and created a real sense of adventure and teamwork. (Top tip: With no light pollution to spoil the scenery it would be great to bring a torch with you to ensure that your meat is cooked through or just use the torch on your phone). After filling our bellies, we retired for the night. Being winter, Janine had thoughtfully provided and left on an electric heater which took the chill off the room. We did however, make full use of the array of blankets provided to keep warm. The next day, we woke up feeling refreshed to the sound of the stream nearby. The amenities in the kitchenette meant that we could make a cup of tea using the kettle provided and cook sausages on the induction hob. In the cabin is a folder filled with information of local walks and advice. We used this to plan our day and set off exploring on one of the routes provided. The route we chose was not overly demanding but provided breathtaking scenery and the instructions were accurate meaning we did not get lost. (Top tip: bring snacks and a drink for your walk). When we returned from our expedition, we slipped into something more comfortable, the ponchos provided and played one of the many board games located in the cupboard. It rained on and off throughout our stay which only added to the charm. It was cloudy on the first night but we were fortunate that on the second night, the sky was clear and the stars pierced the night sky. We sat outside stargazing with a cup of tea and it was breathtaking. The following day, we checked out but just before venturing back to reality we took a detour to the Devil’s Staircase. The scenery on the drive there is incredible and the drive was not taxing due to the good roads. (Top tip: the road leading to the Devil’s Staircase is steep and winding. However my Hyundai i10 handled it, if she can, you can). We then ventured home and have enjoyed reminiscing about it since and would happily return.

  • Just as described, peaceful and remote in the forest. A bit nippy and a bit wet at this time of year but warm and cosy in the cabin.

    Eva2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Quirky cabin in the woods, nice and peaceful, board games are a nice touch! Had a fantastic time away for the night. Made our experience better with no phone signal, being away from the world. Highly recommend! Will definitely be going back.

    Jasmine2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Everything you need for a peaceful, lovely weekend.. The electric blanket and the board games were much appreciated.

    Ame2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Janine was a lovely and kind host who greeted us on check in and showed us around. The cabin was exactly what we needed for a quiet night away and we made full use of the board games and cooked our dinner on the fire outside. We stayed on a night that got down to minus temperatures but still stayed warm in the cabin and the electric blankets kept us cosy through the night! Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Hannah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little cabin in the middle of the woods. Cosy little space. A little cold but we did have a heater / plenty of blankets & slippers! Plenty of nearby streams and waterfalls. Be sure to check out devil's staircase for absolutely stunning views!

The hospitality provided by Roland and his family was outstanding, they instantly made us feel welcome and at ease. We were freely allowed roam around the farm and enjoy the surrounding walks which were beautiful and great for picnics or to watch the sun set. There were lots of things to see or do both within 25 minutes drive in each direction. • Margarets place is a beautiful cosy cottage, pictures do not do it justice! Spotless place with thoughtful touches throughout, has everything you need and more! Margaret kindly left prosecco and necessities bread milk etc which was greatly received! Lovely log burner with ample amount of wood available, giant comfy bed and warm with stunning views! About 20 mins from breacon which is easily done if you have a car, only wish we booked for longer!!

  • What an amazing and beautiful cottage! It’s was so cosy and relaxing to be in! The rolling views were gorgeous! The little special extras were lovely to have! We’d definitely love to come back again!

    Kimberley2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret’s place is fantastic, best air bnb we have stayed in so far. The fire was a huge bonus and the bed was super comfy! There are plenty of touches around the house that made it special. Margaret was an amazing host and even went out in the storm to collect us more logs! The location is beautiful for a relaxing stay but be sure to take groceries with you if you don’t plan on going out. It would be useful to ensure you have a reliable car for when the weather conditions are bad! Overall amazing stay and we’d happily come back.

    Ellie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was absolutely stunning! Amazing location with an amazing view of Brecon. Margaret thoughtfully left us bread, milk, butter and a bottle of Prosecco. The bed was enormous and by far the comfiest bed I’ve ever slept in in my life! The log fire made the cottage really cosy as well. We loved everything about our stay and never wanted to leave! Hopefully we will be back in the summer to stay again, thank you so much Margaret

A little cosy country palace decorated in exotic indian textiles on beautiful south facing hillside. Inside there is wood stove, double bed, table, storage. Outside .. annexe with kitchen and bathroom, flushing toilet, .. sitting/dining area. Suitable for couples and solo explorers.. on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. Perfect for walkers, romantics, mountain bikers, canoeists, fishing and bird watching. 10 minutes to Brecon. 30 minutes Hay-on-Wye (town of books). Free fresh eggs from my hens!
In converting this vintage chicken residence to 'Cluckingham Palace' it still retains it's chicken charm and cosy chicken characteristics but with much added bling, comfort and style.
Above the beautiful Usk valley, on the edge of the Brecon Beacons. 20mins from Pen-y-van (highest peak in the Brecon Beacons)
  • Cluckingham Palace is a beautifully made, cosy and practical unit. We stayed in November and the logfire kept us very warm. We felt right at home. A lot of thought an intelligence has gone into its design. David is a lovely and very accommodating host. This is highly recommended. An outdoor lovers affordable romantic getaway.

  • Very lovely one night stay. We didn’t have the best of the weather with us but the space was cosy and warm throughout.

  • Quirky and wonderful. If you want to be back to nature in a different accommodation then this is the place for you.

    Nicola2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The little wagon is very cosy & warm once the fire is on. All you can hear outside is the gentle flow of water in the river. It is so very peaceful. David is a lovely host who offered some ideas of things to see in the area. What I loved the most is that at night, the sky just lights up with stars because there are no streetlights dimming any of it.

    Caryn2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cluckingham palace has loads of character, in a beautiful setting. A great spot to explore the Brecon Beacons. David was helpful, friendly and had added plenty of delightful touches to the accommodation. Would really like to come and stay again!

    Charlie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful accommodation and very suitable for a holiday with two beautiful walks in the Welsh countryside. At Cluckingham Palace, it feels like you live in your own tiny house. We quickly felt at home and everything was there, what we needed. It looked as thought-out to the smallest detail and additionally decorated very artistically and creatively.

The Calvescott is all about the view. Set high on a hillside looking towards the Beacons, with miles of walks on the doorstep: ancient drove routes, standing stones and the pretty town of Brecon 15 mins drive away. The single storey barn, which used to house calves, has been simply converted: one room, a big window, a compost toilet and shower room and a cosy woodburner. Ideal for walkers, artists and explorers of all ages.
March 2020 CORONOVIRUS Covid19: Although the Calvescott is the perfect escape in these difficult times, since the government announcement requiring people to stay at home and stay safe I have decided not to take bookings until this requirement is lifted. I also want to protect my small local community from any spread of the virus. I hope that once we are through this crazy, difficult time you will come and visit and enjoy some wonderful fresh Welsh air. I moved to the area 7 years ago and converted the calvescott and barn, across the yard, using eco-friendly and traditional building materials. The yard and part of a field are slowly becoming a garden, with lots of wild flowers and veggies. There's a small kitchen area with an induction hob, kettle and toaster, fridge and you can light the woodburner on chilly days. I have a bucket BBQ and can provide local charcoal if you want to cook and eat outside.
The calvescott is set high on a hill, between two rivers which meet in the little village below. This has a few houses and a chapel; the nearest shops, pubs etc are 6 miles away. The countryside is old hill farming land, with hills, valleys, streams, farms, wild ponies, cows and lots and lots of sheep and the occasional goat! If you love the outdoors, hills and mountains, walking and woodburners you'll love this area.
  • An amazing space if your looking to shut out the world for a while, very coast once the fire gets going and incredible views, would absolutely recommend to anyone and will definitely look to stay again.

  • I booked a last minute weekend away to enjoy my final “off peak” weekend until October. I found Rosey’s place and it looked like just what I was after... and it really was, and so much more. Rosey’s communication was fab, as her were directions as I ended up arriving very late on Friday night in pitch black. Rosey made me AND my dogs feel incredibly welcome. This was my first time travelling with them staying somewhere that wasn’t a friend’s house and I was a little apprehensive but they loved pottering about in the garden and Rosey didn’t mind the muddy paw prints at all. The barn itself has a gorgeous view out over the Brecons and is full of rustic charm. I also adore Rosey’s attention to eco friendly living and as well as the barn being well stocked with kitchen wear and blankets there are eco friendly cleaning products as well as soap, shampoo etc. Today I went out walking with Rosey and her dogs and it was a total joy to get to know her and learn a little more about local history. If you’re looking for mod cons and frills then perhaps this isn’t the place for you, but if you’re looking for a pad full of character where you can get away, explore, switch off (there’s no mobile signal or internet here - bliss!!) and unwind, this is the one. The mountains didn’t share my enthusiasm for walking this weekend but I’ll be headed back soon and Rosey’s place will be my first choice. Thanks Rosey, from me, Hamish and Jasper!

    Hannah2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Rosey took amazing care of us whilst we were holed up in the Calvestott during Storm Dennis. She took us on dog walks so we wouldn’t get lost in the storm, inviting us into her lovely home for a warm brew and wrote us the most amazing life saving directions so we could get out of the area during miles and miles of road closures! Bearing in mind we didn’t actually leave the Calvestott for a whole day at one point we were very happy with the fire roaring and curled up in bed watching the storm through the big glass windows. We’ll be back soon in better weather

    Georgia2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful spot and a cosy fire, thanks for a great weekend!

  • Amazing location with hours of walks and stunning views. Basic setup for two. Great retreat for couples.

    Lewis2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Rosey’s barn is exactly what you might imagine it to be and more. The views are lovely, the space is beautifully lit and it has all the essentials you need. We spent the weekend being active and outdoorsy and lying in bed in the late afternoon, watching the rain against the amazing big window. It was restorative and transcendental.

    Agnieszka2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The converted barn was perfect for our long weekend visit to do some walking in the Brecon Beacons. Great location and ambience.

  • We spent a relaxing few days here. The setting is superb and the gardens are magical. The house is well equipped and comfortable although for my 6’5” husband height is an issue which should be noted if you are tall. Andrea was a super host and very helpful.

    Fiona2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • Andrea's place was excellent. A beautiful character cottage in an idyllic location. Easy to find and near local attractions. More than enough space for a couple with a dog. We will definitely return soon with friends for a long weekend.

  • If you are looking for a Welsh cottage with plenty of character, then this is it. When we compared it with others in the general area, then this one had more character and felt cosier. There are lots of quirky nooks, with a stone floor in the kitchen and a Rayburn (like Aga)cooker which brings a homely warmth to the cottage. The garden is a peaceful retreat and was in full bloom while we were there. Our favourite was the landscape view from the 'reading room'. Andrea responded quickly to any queries and dropped by to say a personal hello and give us some fresh eggs. The Elan valley (about 30 min drive) is a must and Brecon is about 40 min drive. I would recommend this home.

The room is a large private with double bed (5' width) plus dressing table. There is a beautiful ensuite bathroom, with both shower and bath. There is also a small space for dressing. The room is on the first floor (or second floor if you are from Asia or the US) and overlooks the river Irfon; the view is very remarkable and also takes in the farmer's fields on the other side of the bank.
I do not own a television or a TV licence.
Neighbourhood is very peaceful, this is the smallest town in the UK! The house is on the Llandovery Road, so during the day there is traffic. At night and in the evening it is silent. There are many walks and cycle runs to enjoy. A lovely part of mid-|Wales.
  • Outstanding host set in a beautiful location. Went above and beyond what I expected. Jason is an excellent host and made me feel at home in his beautiful property. Couldn't recommend Jason any more greatly.

  • The White House is a stunning property in the heart of Llanwrtyd Wells and Jason is a most gentlemanly host! The guest suite is amazing, you have almost a whole private flat to yourself, an extremely comfortable bed, luxurious bathroom and the sound of the river outside to lull you to sleep. Jason is still decorating much of the house but the guest suite and the kitchen are perfect and really beautifully done, and if there's anything you need Jason is very helpful and responsive. He also loves dogs and is always up for taking one for a walk! The surrounding countryside is extraordinary and The White House makes a great base for exploring. Highly recommended!

The village of Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Britain is only a 10 minute walk away and is well served by three pubs and a local store/garage. The local railway station is a 5 minute walk from the barn where a regular service on the heart of wales line will take you towards Builth Wells or Llandovery.
  • The barn is in a beautiful location. The wood burner made the rainy evenings nice and cosy and the hot tub is great. This is a lovely place for a relaxing weekend.

  • A great long weekend with friends!! The barn is modern and stylish with a hint if character with exposed brick walls etc. Very nice. The log burner is a great facility, I wish it was cold enough to warrant using it. There is also a bbq, but it wasn't warm enough to use it! We loved the speakers in the ceiling, a brilliant touch, especially with the bifold doors open when relaxing in the hot tub... Perfect! Very scenic! A short walk from amenities. A premier shop with basic essentials. A couple of pubs to choose from, I'd recommend the Belle Vue for friendliness and food. The chicken wings were excellent! A perfect trip for us and we would happily return if coming back to the area! Natalie & the squad

  • What a great place! Fantastic location. There was enough to keep us entertained just in the grounds. Lovely stream nearby to paddle in.

  • As with my previous stay, it was an amazingly quiet and tranquil place to stay. It doesn’t disappoint.

    Chris2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was just perfect for my needs. It’s beautifully tucked away and so incredibly quiet. I didn’t get a chance to meet Janine - mostly my doing as I arrived later than expected. But everything was ready for me and the check-in instructions were very clear. I very much hope to come back some time...

    Chris2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • Life in miniature with a touch of style, a comfortable bed and a small fridge. Delicious home-made welshcakes on our arrival. You're in the depths of the country here and thrown back on your own resources. No internet, no radio, no television, just peace and quiet. As for places to eat, The Trout in Beulah serves decent pub food, and the Lake hotel in Llangammarch does a very reasonable cream tea.

  • I would recommend staying at this place, lovely scenery and a quiet pleasant area of Wales, the apartments are an ongoing project for Kerryn and her partner but perfectly good enough to stay in as they are. We would defiantly stay there again.

  • We had an excellent stay here for 2 nights while we were in town for the Man v Horse running event. The place was lovely, especially the bed which was very comfortable and the shower which was great. The race was in llanwrtyd wells so the location was perfect as was only a 10 min drive away. Kerryn recommended The Prince Llewelyn pub close by and we eat there saturday night after the race, have to say the food was fantastic! Overall i thoroughly recommend this place for anyone wanting to explore this part of wales. We are planning on returning next year to run man v horse again and would definitely book to stay here again.

Open plan cottage with a log burner and an Indian touch. There is also full central heating and Wi Fi. Sunny south facing terrace and three acres of gardens and woods to wander in. Walking and cycling from your front door and a secluded woodland pool in the river Irfon for wild swimming. Quiet and secluded and protected for its wildlife. A few minutes away from the vibrant town of LLanwrtyd Wells with restaurants, good pubs and regular wierd events. Sauna. Small additional charge for pets.
You will be staying in an area of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) which means that we have a lot of wildlife - especially birds. Woodpecker Cottage should have everything you need including a fully equipped kitchen, microwave etc.
Woodpecker Cottage is on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains. It is surrounded by mountains, forests, rivers and lakes. There are no other houses nearby apart from our other cottages and our house. Its a great area for walking and cycling (and just sitting on the terrace watching the wildlife). You can walk straight out of your door into the hills.
  • A lovely place to stay, great for star gazing! Beautiful area

    Stephanie2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • The Woodpecker Cottage is amazing! The Cottage is set in beautiful grounds with access to the idilic countryside surrounding it. Gyles & his Wife are amazing hosts & are more than happy to help. We are very thankful of the time we sent there & are looking forward to booking the Cottage again.

    Jason2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for a week in Kingfisher cottage which had everything we needed, including an excellent kitchen and a shower I think I would've made the 190 mile journey for on its own. The cottage is in a beautiful garden on a hillside in the Irfon river valley with craggy peaks all around. It's a short drive into Llanwrtyd Wells and the main A483 yet the place seems remote enough to get completely away from it all. But it also has wifi and Sky TV so there's no reason to feel completely cut off. There is lots of opportunities for walking, mountain biking, road cycling, fly fishing or just relaxing in the surrounding area. You will be very well looked after and won't want to leave.

    Ian2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place to stay, relax and explore. The cottage is gorgeous and so clean, we'll be going back!

  • Gyles is what you call a superhost. The communication is spot on and the location of the lodge is peaceful and in the middle of the nature. Perfect for cyclists or walkers among us. It isn't the only lodge on the property of Gyles, but if there are other guests we experienced that they were in the same relaxing vibe as us. Gyles and his wife made us feel very welcome, have a chat and had some great tips for area! One of the kindest host I have had in a very long time. We would recommend this to all of our friends.

    Jack2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay. Quiet valley where you only hear the birds with a river at the bottom of the garden. Everything you need, great shower and generous hosts.

    Derek2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Great hospitality, easy to communicate with and an absolute recommendation if you want to unwind and relax. The valley is a superb spot amidst nature, the Woodpecker Lodge does it's best to accomodate this as well. Great shower and kitchen and thanks to the fire place lovely evenings amidst the stars if the weather is kind. Both hosts are very easy to get along with, friendly and helpful and with great recommendations for the area. Can't fault a thing. It seems you even get homemade cake when arriving \o/ If you want to visit Wales, this is the spot! Thanks again for the lovely time.

    Marcus2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful time here, the location is spectacular with beautiful forest and mountains in every direction. Perfect for bike riding and hiking, and the cottage has everything you could need for a comfortable and relaxing time. The bluebell wood was particularly magical! Thank you Gyles and family!

  • The coach house is a gem! Ideal location, lovely dogs and sheep to say hello to, and a very well-equipped place to stay with everything we needed (and more!) in the kitchen. Having a log burner is excellent after a long and cold walk in the hills. Thank you to Valerie for a warm welcome, local tips, and a brilliant welcome pack including eggs from the hens and Welsh cakes. Nothing was overlooked- first aid kit, sowing kit, a superbly equipped kitchen- even tongs to remove toast from the toaster- maps, dvds, books, binoculars and tourist leaflets etc etc etc. 4. Spotlessly clean; comfortable bed and luxurious towels. 5. Cosy feel, relaxing and tranquil in a rural setting, with sheep and chickens, plus their two friendly labradors for company. 6. Beautiful surroundings with views from both garden and grounds. 6. Valerie and Peter were always available to give advice and tips on places to visit. 7. We highly recommend a stay.

  • Beautiful place to stay. There was 5 of us staying for the weekend to celebrate my 36th birthday and it was perfect. Had regular visits off Max (the pet bulldog) and Claire and Adrian couldn’t have been more helpful! We drank lots, ate lots, played games and took full advantage of the hot tub. Builth wells was a short taxi ride away and is the most beautiful little village with some really lovely little pubs. Will definitely be booking again : )

  • We all had such a lovely time at Wye Cottage beyond our expectation. An ideal place to have privacy, beautiful stunning views and be near to such a lovely area with so much to do. After walking up mountains, kayaking, seeing some beautiful waterfalls then chilling in Hay on Wye and having a Sunday chill time and enjoying the hot tub and outside area I can highly recommend staying there. Claire was lovely when I met her and was easy to contact when needed.

  • Simon was very helpful host. Bed really comfortable - better than we have at home! Accommodation worked very well for us and two small dogs and short walk down to the station was useful! We had a very good dinner in Simon's restaurant next door. Recommend, and we would like to come back for longer in better weather! Thank you Simon.

  • Beautiful cottage. A great space to stay with the dogs and next to a dog friendly pub. Good local walks and a super comfy bed at the end of the day. We will be returning.

  • This place really is lovely. A cosy cottage next door to good food pub. On mid Wales railway line. Easy access to local towns and places of interest. Great value.
