Places to stay in Hellnar
We offer you to come and stay with us on our horse farm in our lovely cottage with a breathtaking view of the mountains and towards the ocean. Very good location to stay while exploring the Snæfellsnes peninsula. We are only few minutes driving time away from many nice and beautiful places to visit such as Arnarstapi, Hellnar and the National park Snæfellsjökull, Rauðfeldsgjá ravine, Búðir and Bjarnarfoss waterfall. We can also offer you to come ride with us from 20.May-20.Sept.
The accommodation consists of one large room that serves as living room, bedroom and kitchen. There are beds for two people and there is a private bathroom with a shower. The kitchen has all the necessary appliances such as fridge, stove with an oven, toaster, kettle and coffee machine. There is a terrace in front of the accommodation where you can enjoy the view from outside. Do note that the property is right next to another but the terrace and everything in the house is private.
Stóri Kambur is a horse farm with other animals as well such as dogs, cats and chickens and often there are sheep from our neighbor on our land.
  • Everything was very clean and nicely decorated. Direct view of meadows and sea. Equipment was great.

  • The view from the cabin is absolutely stunning and it’s the perfect place to catch sunset and/or sunrise! One thing to note: if you’re traveling during the off season there are little to no restaurants open so bring groceries!

  • What a wonderful spot to spend the evening or even a few nights and explore the Snæfellsnes peninsula and surrounding areas! My partner and I enjoyed a one night stay at Eyglós residence and it did not disappoint! Beautiful views all around and a stylish space to spend the night! We even had the opportunity to witness the Northern Lights during our stay- a wonderful experience which we will truly never forget! Would not hesitate to stay at this same Airbnb again during my next trip to Iceland!

    Rebecca2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home. Very clean and comfortable. Had a perfect night of watching the northern lights here. Highly recommend.

  • It was awesome ! Perfect place, an amazing view, the horses just in front of the windows... I would definitely love to come back as soon as I can ! Thanks a lot :)

  • Eygló’s place is clean and comfortable. The succulents add a thoughtful touch to the Airbnb and the horses are beautiful. Eygló is detail-oriented and communicated all the check-in information in advance, which I really appreciated. WiFi is limited though as stated.

    Annie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • An incredibly beautiful space with amazing views- a great place to unwind, make a meal and absorb the beauty. Close to all the great sights in the area- highly recommend

  • I really enjoyed my stay at Ragnheiður's cosy, clean and well equipped appartment. Everything went fine with this friendly owner - from communicating to checkin. recommended!

    Martin2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Ragnheiður’s apartment is an old apartment in the first floor. It is simple, yet has everything you need. As long as you don't expect a stylish place, it is great. The price reflects the standard and value for money good. Ólafsvik is a cosy small town by the ocean worth a stopover.

    Espen2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Quite a large space, as described and no issues.

    Olga2020-02-17T00:00:00Z

  • Great place to stay in Ólafsvík.

    Marten2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is very nice. If you have a plan visit Ólafsvík, you MUST stay at this guesthouse!! Let’s go right now :D

    Minwoo2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Ragnheiður’s place was better than what we expected. It had more than enough space for two people and would've been perfect if there were was a family of 4. It had a very welcoming and home-y interior. I only stayed 1 night but would've liked to have stayed a few a more nights. We were able to wash some laundry that night and, hung dry the clothes for the next day. Definitely worth a long term stay at Ragnheiður’s place.

We do recommend guests to book 2 nights at Nónsteinn. There are so many places to enjoy and then perfect to relax in the evening. Kirkjufell - Kirkjufellsfoss - Snæfellsjökull - Water cave - lava fields - black beaches - bird life - whale watching - Mountain view - northern lights - sunset, quietness, wonderful restaurants and so much more that you can experience here or near by. Nónsteinn is perfect place for newly weds, couples or friends.
This is a 25.5 s.m. cottage. It was built in 2016 and has all the basic necessitiese. There is a shower, small stove, fridge, microwave, and basic utensils to cook a simple meal. There is a queen size bed and cozy chairs to enjoy the landscape outside. We do have another cabin for rent, Grásteinn.
Snæfellsnes Peninsula is an area rich with natural beauty , ocean views and beautiful mountains. You can enjoy hiking, golfing , riding tours, sea angling and whale watching. Snæfellsjökull National Park is close by and you could travel by ferry to the West Fjords or stop at the island Flatey. You could also try the sea tours and enjoy the view of uncountable islands in Breiðarfjörður. This part of the country is just the nature in all its glory.
  • Cozy place, nice view, definitely will come back again

    Joan2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place is photography heaven! Can't express how beautiful this corner of Iceland is! We fell in love with the cabin, found it very roomy and comfortable. Perfect bed and kitchen facilities, extremely warm and dry. The best spot is on the porch where we took amazing sunset photographs of Kirkufell and the northern lights! The restaurant in town is lovely and we had a tasty dinner there. But overall we loved the peaceful quiet while taking in the views with a hot cup of cocoa on the porch. Can't wait to get back! The dogs are lovely and very playful!

    Lucia2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • It was a wonderful place to stay in the middle of nature with an amazing view! We spent three nights there and enjoyed it very much. It is easy to walk to the waterfalls and the whale watching tour was well worth it. Thanks again!

    Melanie2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great little house with a beautiful view. Can only be recommended!

    Klaus2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing! The cabin is perfect in every way, the location, the amazing views and surroundings, cosy, great little touches like the LED candles and the bluetooth speaker etc, it's the little things that count. The communication from the hosts was always quick and very informative all the way through, and always extremely helpful. The location was very easy to find with perfect views of Kirkjufell and the check in process was faultless. Our only criticism was that we didn't stay long enough, we'll be back in the future for sure! Thanks again Anna and Óli!

    Grant2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We did some research and this place is highly rated. Still we were so surprised by the unbelievable location! literally across the street from Krikjufell. Room is clean and loved a cozy touch inside. Next time, we will stay more than a few nights for sure.

    Takahide2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our accommodation was very special, the place is super cozy, clean, private and with all the facilities to make us feel like we are at home. Thanks Anna for the hospitality.

    Grundarfjörður, Iceland

The apartment is by the Snaefellsnes National Park with its marked hiking trails and unique landscape. This area is a paradise for nature lovers. From your private wooden deck you can watch wildlife, sunsets and (if lucky) Aurora. Seals are regular visitors (seasonal) and different seabirds are at home here. This is no surprise as the house is facing the North Atlantic ocean and rich fishing grounds are in view. At the other side of the house you can see the magnificent glacier Snæfellsjokull.
The house used to be the town's grocery store and the local restaurant before it was renovated and the apartments came alive. The town is the closest one to Snæfellsjökull national park which is an area known as "Iceland in a nutshell".
This area has all the nature that travellers seek. Lava fields, glacier, mountains, hiking paths, beaches, caves, craters
  • Clean, cozy, and in a great location! Would book more than 1 night to really enjoy the place and its surroundings!

    Sandra2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The balcony overlooking the water was amazing, as was the spaciousness and modernness of the flat. Would definitely stay here again.

    Tommy2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place right in front of the ocean. Unfortunately didn’t get to see the northern lights or the seals but it was definitely still worth the stay. Had an amazing new year night with the locals around and their fireworks. Insane.

    Margarida2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Kári's apartment was absolutely wonderful. The kitchen was perfect for us to cook small hot meals after a day's travels. It's proximity to the national park made it a perfect home base for our hikes. We also got very lucky with the timing of our stay, because the northern lights were visible from the back deck at night. The furniture was all cozy, and the apartment was clean. We'd happily stay there again on our next trip!

    Tyler2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely space right on the coast! You couldn’t beat the view. Very spacious and cosy. Would definitely recommend!

    Adrianna2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • I don't know where to begin...this place was amazing! You won't find a better view ANYWHERE! We went to sleep each night with lady Aurora dancing above and awoke each morning to the funny seals down below! The apartment is spacious and comfortable - Oskar & Lareen are so hospitable and a joy to meet, if you are lucky enough. We bumped into a little hiccup upon arrival but they quickly rectified! Hellissandur is a perfect town with plenty to see and we will DEFINITELY be back. The street art is such a great sight to see as well... I could go on and on!! You won't be disappointed if you stay at Brenna!

    Wendy2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed staying in this lovely apartment. Huge space with furnished kitchen, big dining room, comfortable furniture. Can easily accommodate someone staying for a few days or a week. Didn't see the northern lights nor seals the night I was there, but there was a lovely sunrise visible from the balcony and the national park is very close.

My place is close to parks, art and culture, Snæfellsjökull glacier, Snæfellsjökull national park, The Freezer Hostel, Theatre and Culture Center. You’ll love my place because of the coziness, the ambience. My place is good for families (with kids) and big groups.
This apartment used to be the town's very own bookstore and is decorated in the style of words and books. Inside there are a lot of books to read and some cosy chairs with reading lamps to sit down and relax with a good book. The house is one of the oldest in the town and has a lot of history. In the summer there is coffeehouse right on the other side of the street and the view of the glacier is astounding from the house. Also a short walk to the beach where you might see some seals if you are lucky
Hellissandur town is very charismatic. It´s one the oldest towns in Iceland and has a lot of history. In it you have a wonderful view of Snæfellsjökull Glacier and the national park is merely 1 minute drive away from the house. So you are right on the doorstep of some wonderful nature when you stay with us. In the national park you will find multiple lava fields, waterfalls, craters, many great hiking paths and wonderful beaches. In Hellissandur there is also a very nice Fishermans museum which I highly recommend going to see. It can give good insight into what it was like to live here in the past.
  • Lovingly decorated and very thoughtful and eager hosts. Always available and committed. Hellissandur is perfect for exploring the national park. The old fish factory with the Street Art Gallery is a must. Be sure to walk around completely. The sea side is fantastic.

  • This place is very special and the exposure to street art in Hellissandur an unexpected treat! We loved it and would have stayed more days to explore the area more and relax in this comfy and historic home if we could have!

    Natalie2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for the play cards, and thanks for the best host. We had a very good time in the old bookstore of the town.

    Max2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn't recommend the place more. Clean, well-equipped and spacious. The staff are lifesavers as well. We got caught ogling at the northern lights around 2am only to realize we locked ourselves out...The host answered the phone at 2am and had us back inside within 5 minutes. Cant express our gratitude enough.

    Danny2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome house! Lots of books! The host encourages you to take a book and leave one in return. Its a cosy space with 1 bed room - one double bed, 2 bunk beds. Kitchen amenities were moderate. But the house was neat and clean. We even got to see the northern lights right in front of the apartment 😁

    Priyanka2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Recommended place to stay, the apartment has a library with probably over 500 books which was a surprise. Close (short drive) to lots of the attractions of the national park.

    Hellissandur, Western Region, Iceland

The house was built between 1906 and 1935 by the trading company Tang&Riis and used as a workshop, staff house etc. It was renovated in 2010 with kitchen and bathroom upgraded to modern standards. The house sits on a cliff by the seashore with a spectacular view over Breidafjordur bay. Hellissandur is one of the oldest fishing villages in Iceland and it's history dates back to the 15th Century. Now it resides about 400 villagers.
Hellissandur was once a major fishing centre and Rif was one of the main trading ports on Snaefellsnes peninsula. Most of the villages fishing fleet is now based at Rif. These two villages are only 3 km apart. The Maritime Museum at Hellisssandur has displays that include Iceland´s oldest rowboat, built in 1826. The beautiful beach Krossavík, with a mixture of sand, black pebbles and lava and rich in birdlife and history, lies west of the village, perfect for an evening or morning hike. The area between Hellissandur and Rif is a bird-lovers paradise and one of the largest nesting sites of arctic terns in Icleand. Snaefellsjokull National Park is on the doorstep of Hellissandur. https://www.ust.is/snaefellsjokull-national-park/ The distance between Reykjavík and Hellissandur is 195 km and is about 2,5 hours drive. Service in the area: A hotel, camping site, gas station, small grocery store, restaurant, café and a maritime museum. The Freezer is a theatre and cultural centre in the village Rif 3 km away. They offer live events every night during the summer. www.thefreezerhostel.com
  • The landlord is a very artistic person, there are a lot of warm little things in the room, and there are a lot of CDs, the room is very clean~

    Mingfei2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay experience, facing the sea, more fortunate we saw the aurora. The kitchen utensils are complete, there is actually a rice cooker, it is a surprise. The landlord offers a lot of table games, as well as a lot of cd records. If you come to the peninsula, you can't miss it.

  • I very much enjoyed my stay at this cozy, small hostel; the place is very clean and homelike, there is a lovely, spacious kitchen where you can prepare your meals and enjoy the view. The hostel is located near Búðir and a waterfall, however it's worth mentioning that there are no big shops in the vicinity. The communication with the host was very good before my arrival and during the stay.

    Aleksandra2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • I loved to sit in the cosy kitchen and look out of the huge window upon the beatiful landscape and nature. I higly recommend this hostel, friendly, clean and well positioned.

  • What an amazing stay! Stayed here for two nights, each night for $35. The first night I rolled in and couldn’t believe my eyes...this was truly one of the most beautiful backdrops in all of Iceland! Two beautiful waterfalls within ten minutes of a drive, and one of those waterfalls was open to the public for hiking. Absolutely incredible! The Budakirkja Church is also very close by, and you are able to walk all around to explore the majestic surrounding lava beaches...this was probably my favorite hidden gems on my trip! Unbeatable location, perfect cleanliness, ridiculous bargain, and five star scenery..what more can you ask for? I’ll be coming back as soon as I can!

Berg farm is located in one of the most beautiful places in Snæfellnes and one of the most hidden places there. However, just 5 minutes drive to Kirkjufell and Kirkjufell waterfall. And 7 minutes drive to Grundarfjörður town. The cosy cottage is located at Berg horse farm behind the famous mountain Kirkjufell. Very private place. Magnificent natural beauty and birdlife characterize the place. Great place for photographers. Northern lights clearly visible at Berg horse farm.
Why spend the night here ? I am born and raised in NIceland and I have travelled my country, worked in farms and met my fellow Icelanders all over the country. In the past 6 years I have done my Private Gourmet Tours so I work a lot with farmers. I am proud to say that I "found" Berg farm and it´s people few years back. Here I will list reasons for why this farm land and those farmers are my favourite place and people in NIceland : - The view from the accommodation is breath taking (for me a well travelled local as well !) - Kirkjufell mountain is rising up from their backyard to make the scene just a little more dramatic - The family living on the farm is truly the most "real" people I know, greatest of friends and authentic... the type you want to have on your team if you get stuck on a deserted island and need to survive :) - Last but not least... If you have any desire to go horse back riding here is a hint : Do NOT do that anywhere else ! - Go on a private tour with those people on real horses, with real farmers on the most beautiful land there is with amazing birdlife and nature ! • A special experience not to miss! Lots of tourists drive through the area, but spending the night on a beautiful, snow covered, remote horse farm with the whole night sky lighting up in front of you is memorable in a way that no hotel or guided tour ever could be. Loved it!

  • My brother and I enjoyed this unique AirBnB... felt a little like camping but was warm and cozy even in winter and well equipped for a comfortable stay. The farm is lovely and in a great location. Communication was great and check-in was easy. Would recommend to anyone visiting the western peninsula of Iceland!

  • We had a great stay at Berg Horse farm. The cabin is lovely and warm with a hob and microwave for cooking and small TV with HDMI for a Chromecast if you have one. Anna and her family are so lovely. With permission we went to visit their horses which are beautiful and friendly. The scenery of Kirkjufell and the surrounding area is fantastic. Hopefully we will return in future.

The guesthouse is located on the second floor and has four rooms, a living room and a kitchen for the guests to use. All rooms have a shared bathroom. NOTE: kitchen, living room and bathroom is shared with other guests.
  • Great accommodation, very well equipped kitchen, comfortable and very clean beds, toilet and shower sparkling clean, check-in personally or by key box very easy, beautiful view of the harbor. Highly recommended.

  • We saw the northern lights for the first time straight off the patio (albeit faint), so this place was already great in my book. But even apart from that the space was clean and since we were the only guest, we got the whole place to ourselves. The shared area had everything you might need. Lisa's was prompt with the replies and check in was a breeze. Highly recommended.

A cosy cottage in the charming village of Arnarstapi with beautiful ocean and mountain views. Fully equipped cosy getaway which is a great base to explore everything the spectacular Snæfellsnes peninsula has to offer. Many things to do and explore in the vicinity: Arnarstapi harbour Coast line between Arnarstapi and Hellnar Dritvík coast Lóndrangar Vatnshellir lava cave Glacier trips Horse riding
The cottage has two bedrooms and a sleeping loft with two beds. The house is open plan with a small kitchen, dining and living/TV area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a small fridge, but no freezer. The bathroom has a shower. Fantastic hot tub in which the Northern lights can be seen during winter nights. Beautiful mountain and ocean views. Barbecue and garden furniture. There are two bedrooms, one with double bed and the other room has a bunk bed. The lower bed is 120 cm wide and the upper one is 70 cm wide. The loft has two beds, both 90 cm. The cottage accommodates five people comfortably although there is sleeping space for more. There is no geothermal water at Arnarstapi so the cottage has a hot water tank for hot water. This means the water supply is limited for showers and dish washing. There is a small laundry room with a washing machine and a dryer. Check-in is after 3pm. There is a small key box by the main entrance. The code will be provided before arrival. The garden/area around the house is fenced.
Arnarstapi is perfectly located to explore the spectacular Snæfellsnes peninsula. It is a very small village at the edge of the glacier and a short drive from Snæfellsnes national park. There are many things that you can enjoy and explore during your stay. There are no shops at Arnarstapi, but there is a hotel with a bar and restaurant and also a small café with a simple menu. • Had a great one-night stay at Inga and Oli’s place!

    Eirik2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This place had a-bit-like-home feeling for us and we enjoyed our stay there. It was quiet yet close to the main road and not far away from grocery shop and petrol station. We got all instructions in advance and the self check-in was easy. The place was spotlessly clean and you can see Inga and Oli care about hygiene a lot. Spacious well equipped kitchen and lounge with stunning views. There is a shower room with toilet and separated restroom with basin and mirror. We appreciated it especially in the morning when all the guests were getting ready at the same time. Our room was cosy and simple but had everything we needed, comfy beds plus window with sea view, really nice to falling asleep/waking up listening to the waves :)

  • Inga and Oli’s place “Bikers Paradise” was amazing. Initially I was a bit set back from the idea of staying with other guests in the same house (shared common spaces, kitchen, bathrooms), but it proved to be a blessing in disguise! I met some lovely people who I continued with on my trip and Oli was super hospitable. When the power went out he searched for places for us to get power and warm meals and even helped me with my car problems by walking to check if the car repair place was open despite the power outage. The place is very clean and organized and easy to use. Access and communication were key here. Recommendation: if you are driving there in the winter Do Not use the mountain overpass. It is worth driving around the north part of the peninsula. Overall thank you Inga and Oli and I hope one day I can stay again.

  • Very comfy and cozy, very clean and silent (as long as the winds don't get too high), all and all a very good place to stay. The location is great for making expeditions all around the peninsula and it's easy to locate. 5/5.

The Snæfellsnes peninsula has something for everyone. On the peninsula you can for example go whale watching, horse back riding and hiking, along with exploring caves such as the very interesting and beautiful water cave, enjoy the amazing bird life and maybe catch a glimpse of a seal or two. There is a variety of outdoor and indoor swimming pools, museums and much more.

Snæfellsjökull - glacier, lava fields, bird cliffs, black and golden beaches, natural mineral spring.. Það sem heillar fólk við eignina mína er We live on a farm on the southern side of the peninsula. We would love for you to enjoy the country side. You will have a private bedroom inside our home but we offer you to be part of our family for a day. There is maybe not so much privacy, staying in a house full of people, but instead an experience of a real farm life
Our farm is located on the south side of Snæfellsnes peninsula. We have cows and sheep, few hens, dogs and cats. The house is old, built in 1961 and we are little by little changing windows, painting and planting trees. The beach is 200 m away, black lava beach and sometimes we can spot seals on the cliffs, and lot of easy hiking trails are to be found on the peninsula.
The special part about being here is the endless beautiful nature, in summertime birds, seals, bright summer nights and in wintertime the northern lights. You can have guided tours all year round, the swimming pool is only 7 km away and with hot mineral spring water, open during summer time.
  • This was my second visit and that almost says it all. A true working farm yet Þórunn and her husband always have time for their guests. A beautiful location and a chance to meet people who are the real heart of Iceland. Ps. I’ve seen magnificent Northern lights whilst at the farm.

    Ian2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Thorunn and her home and family are truly lovely. Very warm, welcoming and supportive to newcomers to Iceland. The farm is a wonderful place to visit.

  • I'm sorry that I didn't say hello early that day and disturbed the landlord's family. But they are all kind and friendly ~ The house faces the sea and the snowy mountains is a unique experience

  • This is a lovely farm stay in an amazing part of Iceland. Our room was clean, the bathroom was spotless and we had full access to the kitchen. The absolute best part was the warmth and welcoming nature of our host. She gave us amazing recommendations for sights around the Snaefellsnes peninsula that simply cannot be missed. The farm itself is right by the ocean. We got to walk up to the shore and hang out with some sheep while watching the waves crashing on the rocks. A bonus for animal lovers like us was the friendly dog and cats. This stay was a highlight of our Iceland trip.

    Harry2019-11-04T00:00:00Z

Walking along the coastline you will find magnificent bird life and lava formations that shows you the rugged formation and the battle of natures forces in birth of the island. The area is one of a kind and is sure to give you memories for years to come.
  • Second time here, so that’s probably the best recommendation. Room with view on the mountain. Clean, comfortable. With fridge. Nice shower. Nice. As I was here in the winter, they said they had limited choice in dinner, but still plenty to choose from and excellent taste again!! Love eating there with view on the ocean. This time I explored the surrounding area of the hotel. Beautiful too.

  • Absolutely breathtaking views. It was our first stop after Reykjavík and it was worth it. Very upscale place for being in the middle of no where, had a restaurant attached that served delicious different kinds of pizza and fish and chips (we had both) and two different kinds of soup which we didn’t have but it sounded good. Lots to do around the area, highly recommend!!

  • This place was cozy and just what we needed after a long day of exploring Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and the cabin itself was 5 minutes from the cliffs of Arnarstapi. We also saw the Northern Lights above the mountains behind the cabin. We had a brief but amazing experience here and would definitely recommend!

  • Very nice stay in this cottage! Beautiful decoration and bedding very comfortable, we slept very well! Plan to eat at this time (November), few restaurants open in the area ..!

  • Lovely, stylish cottage right at the foot of the mountain. Very easy to access the majority of the peninsula. However as we went off season (Early November) there weren’t any restaurants or cafes in the area open!

  • Very nice place, perfect to go around the area. Amazing sunrise view!

    Carlotta2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • We found the location ideal as a jumping off point for exploring the peninsula. The views of the ocean, sunrises and sunset, were beautiful. The restaurants were right next door and offered a great means of starting and finishing our days. The units themselves are small but cozy. We’d come back again and recommend to others as well!

My place is close to Snæfellsjökull glacier, Snæfellsjökull national park,, parks, art and culture. You’ll love my place because of the coziness. My place is good for families (with kids) and big groups.
This house has a lot of history. It was built by my grandparents and is one of the oldest houses in town. It has served as a bookstore, offices for a fish factory as well as a home for my family and also workers of my grandads old fish factory, which was called Jökull (which means Glacier). The apartment is small and old school but charismatic. From the kitchen window you have a wonderful view of the glacier and the atlantic ocean is only a 2 minute walk away.
This place is right on the doorstep of Snæfellsjökull national park. If you are interested in Icelandic nature, there is no better location than Hellissandur. In the national park you will find lava fields, craters, waterfalls, beaches, caves, animal and birdlife
  • Nice quiet clean place. No grocery stores nearby but a good kitchen so shop before arrive.

    Jeanean2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the house is very close to the national park and it will take a few minutes by car. The house is fully equipped, clean and tidy, suitable for a family.

Cooking in the kitchen can look out the window. If you are lucky, you should be able to see the aurora, but we didn't see it ~ In the living room, we can see the beautiful scenery outside. There are also Bluetooth speakers in the house, so you can cook while listening to songs ~ It's perfect. I want to stay again next summer! Definitely a great value experience ~ set it right! !! !!

A charming little house on the coast with a glacier and volcanoes in the backyard. Ocean wive and Northern Lights wintertime. Actually an excellent place for enjoying the northern lights if weather conditions allows.
What we appreciate the most with our cabin is how close it is the coast and the view to the sea and to the mountains. Inside there is a nice cosy feeling.
We have three different cafes/restaurants in Arnarstapi. Two cafes in Hellnar. Some restaurants in the towns on the north side of the peninsula.
  • A cozy and comfortable lodge with a brilliant location for exploring all the peninsula has to offer. Maggy was a friendly host with a huge amount of local expertise she was willing to share. Would definitely stay here again.

  • Location, location, location! The house is very comfortable and clean and well equipped. But the best feature is the location! We stayed for one week and found plenty to do in the area. This was our second time staying in the house. On the peninsula there are beautiful hikes, volcanic features, a lava tube cave, and interesting little museums. You can also ride horses or take a hiking tour on the glacier. The house is wonderful in any weather. It is warm and cozy. The views are spectacular! The kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals. The beds are comfortable and the shower has good, hot water. We highly recommend staying here!

  • Mrs. Maggy’s place is absolutely wonderful...the fireplace made it nice and cozy..beautiful view of the Ocean out back..She was very helpful on things to do places to see..there are a few restaurants right across the street one is called Arnarbaer they have the best Fish and Chips & Pizza... Thank you Mrs Maggy for your hospitality Phil and Linda Soper

  • This cottage is located close to attractions. Generally pleasant stay, kitchen is equipped . However bathroom is small and hot water is limited .

  • Great location for sites on the peninsula. Very clean and comfortable beds! Small bedrooms but it worked fine for two couples. Always prompt responses from our host. Recommend!

    Jean2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Location is always my priority when choosing an Airbnb or a hotel. Maggy’s cabin is located in the heart of Arnarstapi: one step away from the big stone statue and the viewpoint, restaurants and gas station are nearby and facing the ocean and the trail. The cabin is not new but includes everything you need. The kitchen is also old school but we find it interesting. Communications with Maggy was also very efficient. I would like to recommend the cabin to friends.

  • We loved our stay at this ideally located, cozy home-away-from-home. It was so nice to be able to walk everywhere: out the back of the yard to the gorgeous walk by the ocean, or out the front door to the food truck that makes scrumptious fish and chips. The hosts were very responsive, happy to be helpful, and keep the house well-supplied. Highly recommended!

Ólafsvík is a small town in Iceland on the northern side of the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. At one point in the 17th and 18th centuries, commercial vessels sailed between Ólafsvík and Denmark, and the village was one of the larger trading ports in Iceland. Ólafsvík became certified trading place, authorized by the Danish King and Danish authorities, in 1687. It is situated near the western end of the Snæfellsnes peninsula, on the north coast of the peninsula. It is on route 54, between Grundarfjörður and Hellissandur. At 23 degrees 42 minutes West, it is the westernmost settlement of its size in Europe. Olafsvik, a township in Snaefellsnes, Iceland. Administratively it is in the Western Region and it is the administrative centre of the municipality of Snæfellsbær which also includes the two tiny villages of Rif and Hellissandur. As of 1 January 2011, it had 1,010 inhabitants. Awesome swimming pool. Two good restaurant. Fast food bistro. Museum....

  • A big thanks to Jirina for her really sweet accommodation! The place is perfectly clean, and the location perfect, at the heart of beautiful Ólafsvík. I enjoyed my stay so much there, it was quiet and peaceful and felt like a real home. I strongly recommend and will definitely come back there!

    Marie2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • I had a really nice stay here. It is a great place to be based if you are touring Snaefellsnes. The location is perfect to reach all the peninsula has to offer. It is clean, comfortable and quite large. Jirina Tina was very quick to respond to any questions I had and the check-in was super easy even though she wasn't home. I would highly recommend this place.

    Erik2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Nice clean little apartment, easy access quiet place and well located for visiting the peninsula.

    Maxime2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay at Jirina's home in Olavsvik. The apartment is in a well maintained old building, it keeps all the charm of an old home with all the comforts (and the warmth!). The house was spotless and we felt like at home as soon as we arrived. One can see that our host has taken great care in making our stay pleasant; for instance the apartment had all type of useful basic supplies. Also Jirina was very nice to provide some toys for our kids to play during our stay, we really appreciated it! Our children loved the little garden outside plus the large square in front of the house where they could run around. In 5 minutes walk you can see a beautiful waterfall (it was not mentioned anywhere in our guide, but I guess because it is "small" for Iceland scale of things, still worthy the walk there!). We were there only 2 nights but I think it is a great accommodation also for longer stays. The place is truly magic with the kitchen views of the triangular church and the waterfall. I can say that our stay at Jirina's home is one of our best AirBnb experiences. The attention to detail and thinking ahead of the needs of the travelers truly makes a host stands out. This place really has it all!

    Tom & Cruz2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • The place is actually much larger than expected. We had three guests in our party so we had the whole place to ourselves, which we liked. It is cozy and very comfortable, and the location couldn't be better. You are so close both to the national park and to the road that cuts through the peninsula so you can reach the south side (where Arnarstapi, Hellnar, etc. are located). Jirina TIna was also very sweet and helped us find an amazing place to see the sunset. We saw the best sunset--maybe of our lives--thanks to her advice. Thank you!

During the winter time there is big chance of seeing the whales and the Dolphins swimming around in the fjords of our area. Snæfellsnes Peninsula is quite big and there is a lot of places people must take look at, consider to stay at least two nights in the area.
  • If you google northern lights/aurora in western Iceland you would see a few similar photos of aurora dancing on top of a mountain top, and that mountain top is no other than Mt. Kirkjufell. And Hjortur’s place is THE best spot for if: Mt Kirkjufell is just right beside his place, you can fill the whole mountain into your 21mm camera lens from the patio. Before booking this place I asked Hjortur if there’s any problem for me to drive to his place (we had phobia after we got our rental vehicle stuck in the snow). Hjortur gave us the assurance and we were pleased to see that the driveway and the slope to the cabin was cleared from snow when we reached there. We stayed here for 2 nights, and we had the best aurora sighting on the first night. Skies were clear and it was almost KP3, we literally saw aurora dancing on top of us from 00:00 to 02:00 with our naked eyes. The whole sky was lit up with dashes of green/purple/white and it was a gorgeous sight to behold. On the second day the weather took a drastic turn, it was snowing and strong winds for the whole day. We spent the whole day in this cozy little cabin, and by evening we got a little worried as thick snow has accumulated around our vehicle. Weather forecast shows it will be bad weather for the next 2 days... we had an afternoon flight to catch the next day. A quick check with Hjortur and he came by and help us to clear some snow around our vehicle, and advised us to park our vehicle in Grundarfjörður town as he fears we might not be able to drive out early in the morning. We did what he said and Hjortur fetched us back to our cabin after we parked our car in town (which is just 5 minutes drive). The 2nd night at Kirkjufell had one of the craziest weather we experienced over our 2 weeks in Iceland. It was raining and snowing and the winds are very strong and we can feel the whole cabin rattles. Hjortur came to pick us from our cabin the next morning despite the bad weather, and we braved ourselves to walk in the blazing winds and strong rainfall. The wind knock us off our feet a few times and that 100m from our cabin to Hjortur’s vehicle was one of the most challenging “routes” we had experienced in Iceland. Nevertheless Hjortur brought us from the cabin to our vehicle (which we parked in town) safely, and we manage to reach the airport on time. A big thanks to Hjortur for his advise and assistance! Ok come back to the cabin: it’s a pretty large cabin with 2 rooms (you can sleep 3 person in each room). The kitchen is very well stocked and the whole place is clean. There is a hot tub just next to the main door which was kept warm and usable even in winter. Hjortur also provided iPhone charger and lightning cable, and a Bluetooth speaker which are nice touches... all in all we really enjoyed our stay with Hjortur. In the midst of Covid virus, most of the airBnB hosts avoided seeing us throughout our 2 weeks stay in Iceland. Hjortur went the extra mile, he came to greet us on first day, and he came again on the next 2 days to help us. For those reading this review, rest assured that you are in good hands and the host Hjortur will take great care of you during your stay in his cabin. To Hjortur, thank you once again!

  • Everything was just fine. Great Location for many beautiful landscapes around.

    Patrick2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in House #1 and I am glad we had this one as #2 would be looking at an amazing view with a cabin in front of it (#1). The views are stellar on this property!!! Hjortur had the hot tub ready for us to use upon arrival and this was awesome. My only concern was that other travellers were coming on the property to take photos of Kirkjufell mountain (which is on the property) and although the one man I spoke to was polite, it was odd to have a stranger come into our space and start asking questions. Not sure what can be done as there is already a sign advising that it is a private area. All in all, a great spot!

  • We were pleasantly surprised with this cute little house. Even though we were in a more secluded part of Iceland the place was located in a cute little town that had a few unique restaurants and had a spectacular view. The house was spacious and felt homey. There were plenty of spices for cooking and coffee ready there for us. The wood burning fireplace was so lovely and made the experience even more special!

Spacious yet cozy 93m cottage located at the edge of the Snæfellsnesjökull national park. The cottage is beautifully decorated and well equipped. Me and my wife fell in love with the un-earthly beauty of the Snæfellsnes peninsula and especially the area around the glacier and simply had to own our own getaway at this magical place which was voted the #1 place to visit in the wintertime (travelandleisure), and amongst Europe's 25 most interesting villages (Business Insider)
  • This cottage will be your home away from home! The owners are great to work with and so communicative prior to arrival! Their treasure map of suggestions where to visit was great! The house is stocked very well and allows for a perfect place to do laundry. This location is just unbelievable and totally worth the drive!

    Daniel2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Superb chalet on the peninsula in Arnastapi. We were 4 adults and 2 teenage girls and the chalet was very comfortable. He responded brilliantly to all of our needs. The chalet is part of a small village, but we still had the feeling of being at the other end of the world. The view is extraordinary and the hike in the lava fields which starts very close to the chalet is worth living. We must mention that the path and the entrance to the chalet can be difficult to access when it is snowing or windy. The cleanliness is impeccable. We were able to easily visit the peninsula because everything is close. You must do the grocery shopping before arrival, in Borgarnes or Stykkisholmur. There is a gas station in Arnastapi. We had already done a lot of research, but the magnificent treasure map of the hosts was perfect to confirm our choices. Thank you.

  • Wow, what an amazing little slice of Icelandic heaven (Valhalla?)! Òlafur is an excellent host and his little cottage is just as excellent. My one piece of advice to future guests: think about the weather, it's a place of extremes!

  • This cabin is in a beautiful location close to hiking trails and very short walk to the ocean. The view of the mountain is incredible!! The cabin has all the amenities you could need ( except a microwave), otherwise very comfortable beds, comfy sofa and kitchen is well equipped. We loved having laundry available too! We unfortunately experienced very bad weather while here and the host was very responsive to all of our needs which we very much appreciated. Don’t hesitate to book this place as it is a perfect getaway spot!

If you are interested in wild and unspoiled nature and want to discover the many jewels of Snaefellsnes in peace and with almost no other tourists, Arnarstapi is the right place for you. The house is located at the foot of a beautiful mountain and is the starting point for a great hiking trail. It is super cozy and well equipped, the almost 3 hours drive from the airport are absolutely justified. Everything was as described and even better. We would go back anytime. Thanks for the great experience! :)

  • A well-stocked and equipped kitchen, an amazing location and a professional and helpful host.

  • Great spot to stay in for 2 nights if you're looking to explore West Iceland, particularly Snaefellsnes peninsula. Went there during winter in December but we were unfortunate to have ran into a big storm, though it was kind of exciting. I think its also important to take note that the petrol kiosks in the area are mainly self-service and I believe the nearest one with a shop is abt 35km away. Theres a few restaurants nearby but might be a better idea to buy your groceries before coming if you are planning to cook your own meals. Nonetheless, the place was absolutely fun to be in!

  • Beautiful cabin, very comfortable and well cared for. Great location close to the water and a nice hiking trail over to the next village. Prompt and courteous communication, check-in was very easy. We were provided with a thoughtfully constructed guide to activities and sights in the area, it was really helpful in deciding where to go and what to do, very much appreciated. We would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone traveling in the area.

Come and experience the countryside! From now until May you can join us in the farmhouse and get to know our sheep, chickens and horses. Skjólsteinar accommodation is on a farm Kverná near Grundarfjörður. Beautiful northern lights. We live in an old house with a long history. The area is rich with natural beauty and beautiful mountain and waterfalls.
Small but cozy rooms. Shared bathroom and kitchen with other rooms. We rent out four rooms at the farm. Each room features private ad on Airbnb.
You can go horseback riding for additional fee in Juni to August. Three beautiful waterfalls nearby which you can walk to. Lambs are only from May - June Horses go up to the mountain of September to January. Sheep go up in the mountains from May to November, but we have often lambs at home in the summer.
  • Location is great, just outside of the town. Private room for 2 with a shared bathroom. Very clean. Great place to stay on the peninsula

  • The description is straight forward. Basic room, but since we spent the day exploring, it was perfect for our needs.

  • Amazing location, easy to view the auroras. There’s a waterfall at the back you can hike to. They have a cat and an amazing dog - thanks for letting us play with them! Overall, it’s a good stop for a night or two on the road. Easy to find.

  • An absolute gem! This was our best (most favorite!) stay during our entire Iceland adventure. It is so much better than the photos posted. There are amazing views of the sea from many windows, a very large covered patio area (again with sea views) and a lovely bench up the hill of the back yard (again with sea views)! The cottage is quite large and very warm and welcoming. This kitchen is one of the best we have ever had - cabinets full of spices, dried goods, coffee/teas and the refrigerator full of condiments, jam, butter and even breakfast (a surprise for us) including eggs, cheese and avocado. The couch is very comfortable and the TV is a great size. The bed also is very comfortable. The area of Arnarstapi has many wonderful hikes and natural sites to explore (also our most favorite part of Iceland). The host is amazing - sent emails ahead of time with great information about the local area - and very helpful throughout the stay if needed. I highly recommend this cottage - it is the best of all of Iceland in our opinion!

  • Great place to stay in Western Iceland. Lovely cottage, incredible views. Lots of space. It was just my wife and I, but easier could hold two additional couples (or a family with kids).

  • What a beautiful house very well located !! A must in our trip. Rikke has always responded quickly to our needs. The house is very clean and perfectly equipped. It corresponded to our needs and more, with our two children.

    Sylvain2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Rikke´s place was just perfect as a base for travelling around the Snaefellsness pensinsula. The house was super cozy and super clean. Furthermore, it was perfectly equipped and the terrace together with the garden were beuatiful. Would come here anytime again.

My place is close to Snaefellsjokull National Park. Guesthouse & Gallery. A small guesthouse with a great view over the ocean and the harbor along with beautiful mountains. The guesthouse is located on the second floor and has four rooms, a living room and a kitchen for the guests to use. All rooms have a shared bathroom. All beds are made up with duvets, pillows and towels. NOTE: kitchen, living room and bathroom is shared with other guests.
Very nice kitchen with everything you need for cook, stove, oven, microwave, fridge, pots and pans and more.
The Snæfellsnes peninsula has something for everyone. On the peninsula you can for example go whale watching, horse back riding and hiking, along with exploring caves such as the very interesting and beautiful water cave, enjoy the amazing birdlife and maybe catch a glimpse of a seal or two. There is a variety of outdoor and indoor swimming pools, museums and much more.

  • Olafsvik is a pleasant town. And one of the best locations if you plan to go around West Fjords, namely the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. It even has a amazing waterfall in the backyard! Also, it’s less than 10 minutes to two other well-known waterfalls with the backdrop of the Snaefellsnes Glacier (on a clear day). Moreover, the most photographed mountain, Kirkjufell, is just 12-15mins away, too! Lisa’s place is very homey and cozy. Since we rented just one room, we have other people in the apartment too, which was absolutely grand since we got to know other people and hear about their stories, as well. We love that there’s a kitchen! And the common room has very good lighting. Plus the view of the harbor is great! We would definitely love to stay here again.

    Charlie2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa has been very friendly. The view from the apartment is great!

    Christopher2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really liked our stay at Lísa‘s guesthouse. Everything was absolutely clean. The shared rooms (kitchen, living room and two bathrooms) are big. The kitchen is equipped with all that is needed. We definitely recommend a stay here!

  • This place is great! There’s a hot tub and everything you could need in the kitchen if you’d like to prepare a meal. For those who don’t (like us), there are restaurants around, so not to worry. The view from the back is amazing. If you go during summertime, there’s a hot spring swimming pool nearby. Totally recommend this place, would love to see it during the summer months too!

  • Awesome location if you're looking for some peace and quiet, lovely place to get away to and a fantastic base to explore a stunningly beautiful area. Leila was a super friendly and welcoming host, clearly going out of her way to make guests comfortable. Everything was clean and I have no hesitation to recommend this place for staying :)

    Steve2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and a friend stayed here last minute. We arrived a little later than expected and communicated with the host who was totally fine and happy to welcome us later. We had the entire place to ourselves which was great. Had it been full the bathroom would have been a stretch with the amount of beds. It's the kind of place that would suit a big group or families booking the whole place. The hot tub was a great bonus, with an incredible view! location is totally wild with not much around, whilst being in driving distance to a couple of restaurants. Make sure you take your own food as the shop is quite a distance, including basics like cooking oil. It's a v.good basic/what you need kind of stay. Host was great, easy to communicate with and we would have happily stayed longer/would return!

  • We stayed here for 2 nights. This place is amazing. First off all the location is too good with nice beach view. Our room is nice and cozy for 2 ppl with heaters and WiFi. Each unit has 3 rooms and some beds in the attic. Each unit has one washroom, one kitchen and one hot water jacuzzi in the patio with sea view. The washroom is decent. Kitchen is clean with required utensils. The views are amazing and we could also see the aurora from here.

Incredibly clean, modern, perfect kitchen, warm. It was incredible and everything I needed. My only regret was that I didn’t spend more than one night here. Being able to lay in bed and look at those views....incredible.
