Places to stay in Defynnog

Places to stay in Defynnog
Set like a jewel in the beautiful Brecon Beacons, this tiny house is inspired by a traditional shepherd hut and offers super luxurious accommodation. Both cosy and private it's a place to snuggle down and get away from it all. It is cosy, light, airy and free of draughts. It has a clean, fresh comfortable feel and a traditional log burner. If the weather is good it is an ideal location for outdoor pursuits. If the weather is poor, stay inside and watch films, listen to music or play games.
Gilfach translates from the Welsh as ‘nook’ or ‘hideaway’. This perfectly describes the farm, tucked away in a steep sided valley yet only 5mins drive from the A40. The farm dates back four hundred years, part of the original stone barn has been converted into the Barn Loft. Just north of the Brecon Beacons national park and nestling in the folds of the hills. The loft is beautifully decorated and everything you need to enjoy tranquillity and rest. The Oak Hut benefits from all modern comforts to make it a warm and cosy place to snuggle into whatever the weather. There is a microwave, kettle, toaster, single ring induction hob and a small fridge. There is a traditional Belfast sink. There is no conventional oven. A full set of basic kitchen equipment is provided. There is a flap down table and two folding chairs. There is a generously sized shower with plenty of hot water. The double bed has a super warm wool duvet (Baavet) and organic cotton cover. There is underfloor heating - however when it is very cold you will need to light the log burner - I provide the logs! Gilfach is a traditional Welsh hill farm. There are sixty acres of pasture, ancient woodland, larch plantation and rough bracken and wetland meadows. It is home five British White cows and five horses. Guests are welcome to explore the farm and beyond along the rights of way leading from Gilfach’s land. There are wonderful views of Pen-y-Fan from the top of the farm and a stream flowing along the lower border, there is a mass flora and fauna to see with red kites and buzzards circling up and down the valley. The area’s Dark Sky status and the lack of light pollution makes Gilfach ideal for great stargazing. The farm itself is open to you to go for walks. There is a wonderful view of Pen-y-Fan from the top of the farm and plenty of wildlife to see with red kites and buzzards constantly circling up and down the valley. We also have woodlands - ancient, deciduous and conifer and a stream flowing along the lower border of the farm all of which you are welcome to explore.
Gilfach is on the northern edge of the Brecon Beacons National park. This is a wild and dramatic landscape with steeped with fascinating geology and history. There are hills to climb, ridges to stride along and lakes to swim in. Castles to explore, beautiful gardens to visit, and rivers for canoeing and fishing. There are the show caves at Dan Yr Ogof and the famous waterfalls at Ysradfellte. There is mountain railway and industrial heritage still visible in the landscape and preserved in the Big Pit Coal Museum at Blaenavon. Easily within reach for a day trip, you can enjoy the world-renowned beeches of the Gower peninsula or even head to Pendine Sands (famous for land speed records) and further afield to Tendby and Pembroke. The farm is twenty mins drive from Brecon where there are supermarkets, high street shopping, a cathedral and museums and leisure centre. In the opposite direction it is only slightly further to Llandovery – or for the nearest city it’s a fifty min drive to Swansea. The villages of Sennybridge, Defynnog and Trecastle are all just a few minutes from the farm. All have great places to eat and there is a very good fish and chip shop, a garage with café that serves a really good breakfast.
  • Had the best stay here at Gilfach farm! It had everything you could think of, was very clean and extremely cosy. Me and my dog Luna will definitely be back on the future :)

  • What a lovely cottage Ty Canol is! Even at first glance you can tell that Rosemary put a lot of love and care into making it the perfect place to stay for anyone who wants to explore the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park. The location is amazing with plenty of walks nearby, and the views from the patio and windows are stunning. The cottage itself is very clean and has everything you need. It's tastefully done with lots of little extras that make it super homely and cosy. The bird feeder on the patio, with all the lovely blue and coal tits and sparrows, was also a lovely touch. I also want to thank Rosemary for being such a great host. She was always really quick to respond to my messages and helped me with any queries I had. She also provided a folder with a lot of information about the area, walks and hiking routes, etc.., which was really helpful. All in all we had an amazing holiday and we will definitely be back!

    Karoline2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location, everything you need in a beautiful cottage including lovely touches around the place. Short walk to the river, bird watching and relaxing while admitting beautiful view. We have had amazing time and will definitely be back!

  • Amazing place! Lovely cosy and clean cottage. Beautiful views. Comfy beds. Very peaceful. Everything you need and more.

    Amy2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Not only is Rosemary’s place immaculate, it’s nestled in the most stunning location with incredible views of the Brecon Beacons. A fantastically detailed book is also provided containing information for both walks from the cottage door, in addition to slightly further afield in the Beacons. There’s also plenty of advice for places to visit and things to do. My wife and I spent our third wedding anniversary here. We’re already planning to come back for our fourth!

    Owen2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely holiday cottage, clean cosy and stunning views everything you need inside and an overall great stay would love to go back some time.

  • Cluckingham Palace is a beautifully made, cosy and practical unit. We stayed in November and the logfire kept us very warm. We felt right at home. A lot of thought an intelligence has gone into its design. David is a lovely and very accommodating host. This is highly recommended. An outdoor lovers affordable romantic getaway.

    Pedram2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very lovely one night stay. We didn’t have the best of the weather with us but the space was cosy and warm throughout.

    Ali2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • Quirky and wonderful. If you want to be back to nature in a different accommodation then this is the place for you.

    Nicola2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • The little wagon is very cosy & warm once the fire is on. All you can hear outside is the gentle flow of water in the river. It is so very peaceful. David is a lovely host who offered some ideas of things to see in the area. What I loved the most is that at night, the sky just lights up with stars because there are no streetlights dimming any of it.

    Caryn2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cluckingham palace has loads of character, in a beautiful setting. A great spot to explore the Brecon Beacons. David was helpful, friendly and had added plenty of delightful touches to the accommodation. Would really like to come and stay again!

    Charlie2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful accommodation and very suitable for a holiday with two beautiful walks in the Welsh countryside. At Cluckingham Palace, it feels like you live in your own tiny house. We quickly felt at home and everything was there, what we needed. It looked as thought-out to the smallest detail and additionally decorated very artistically and creatively.

  • An idyllic stay in a great location, easy access to all of the Brecon Beacons. Pete & Maria provided thoughtful touches that added to the enjoyment of our visit!

  • Beautiful cottage, very quiet and peaceful but close enough to some great restaurants. There were some really lovely touches to the place, and the bed was so comfortable! Perfect weekend away.

  • Five stars wouldn't be enough. We had a lovely weekend in the cottage. We had everything we needed, the cooking facilities were brilliant. It is lovely and cosy with a great heating system for cold winter days. There's a great cupboard with lots of local tips and recommendations. It is a perfect spot for a cosy and relaxing few days away! Thank you for a lovely stay Pete and Maria! Fionnuala and David

  • Lovely cosy space. Well equipped kitchen area. Great hosts who take the time to explain a little of the local area and suggest places to eat etc.

    Claire2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • We found this a perfect place for a quiet weekend away. Cosy, welcoming and warm after a day out in the elements. Will hopefully be back in the future!

    Antony2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Comfortable stay in a cosy cottage, Pete was very helpful and we enjoyed our stay in this fantastic location. Thankyou!

    Lucy2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place, cosy and quiet. Not as close to the Brecon Beacons as we had read on other reviews. Around a 25 minute drive to most of the walks for the Brecon Beacons/pen y fan. The cottage is lovely, the heating is great and can be adjusted. The kitchen facilities were great which meant we did not have to spend additional costs eating out. There was a foul smell in one of the cupboards unsure as to why. Slept comfortably as it was quiet however the sheets were bobbly and felt quite itchy. We made use of the beautiful log burner. Hosts were brilliant, couldn’t help enough. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend. Thank you!

Stay in the Brecon Beacons National Park in a quiet characterful 500 year old house, with walking distance to 6 village pubs. The room has a comfortable 5ft double bed and a private shower room with basin & toilet. The pretty village of Defynnog is a great place to stay as central within the park, but with stunning walks, the 500 year old Defynnog Yew and friendly places to eat and drink, you can be sure to have a relaxing visit.
We do not offer breakfast, but there is a kettle and teas/coffee selection in the room. The Welsh Rarebit Centre in the village, and Glanusk Café a mile away both offer great food for breakfasts or lunch.
  • Great night's sleep and David very welcoming.

    Julia2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • David is a wonderful, relaxed and welcoming host. Our room was full of character, private and comfortable. David's recommendation about eating in the Tanner's Arms was excellent.

    Adrian2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • David is a brilliant host, very welcoming and helpful. We enjoyed staying in this atmospheric house. Room had everything we could ask for- tea and coffee making facilities, bottled water, plenty of extra sockets. Very quiet location, you can keep windows open and have no noise from outside. Great local pub literally on the doorstep with a great range of ales and ciders. Highly recommended stay!

  • Host was congenial and polite. A cosy stay well situated to Bristol airport and pleasant meal At the George pub restaurant nearby. Good for refuelling hire car near garage.

Positioned off a private drive & half a mile from the nearest road, we have designed & built a romantic en-suite shepherd's hut that we hope will be the perfect place from which to explore the Brecon Beacons or to simply relax and admire the breath taking views of Pen-y-Fan thanks to its position at 800 ft above sea level. Please note, the hut is 4 MILES from Brecon where you’ll find supermarkets & pubs etc. - there are none in the village! There is NO WIFI, but most networks get decent 3/4G.
We have built "The Acorn" at the end of my in-laws paddock which is 150m from their house. (We live at the bottom of the drive),It is surrounded by farmland and has its own little enclosed garden and parking area. We have designed it to cater for two people. There is however the possibility that we could accommodate a two man tent in certain circumstances - please contact us regarding this. There will be an additional charge. The hut is beautifully cosy, as it is insulated and has 2 radiators. It has a double bed with sprung mattress and all linen is provided. (There is additional space at the foot of the bed to cater for those over 6 feet tall!) There is an en-suite with proper flushing toilet, basin, shower, towel rail and fluffy towels. There's a fitted kitchen with microwave, (microwave omelette maker & egg boiler). Slow cooker (& recipe book), toaster, small fridge (in the shed there is also a cool box and on request we can supply ice-packs), kettle & sink with hot and cold running water. There's complimentary tea/coffee & milk. There is a TV, with no signal but plenty of DVD's. There are electric sockets & even some speakers that you can plug your devices in to. Outside there is a fire pit which doubles up as a BBQ along with a seating area. There is parking for 2 cars (6 metres from the hut) and a storage shed for bikes etc or for drying clothes.
Within walking distance: There is a roman fort, hill top fort, a church and a river to paddle in & Aberyscir Common. Sadly we don’t own any of the land surrounding the shepherd’s hut, so don’t advise you wonder off across the fields. On a Wednesday during winter, they hold a pheasant shoot in the field below the hut. This tends to last no longer than 30 minutes or so. 1.3 miles away is Cradoc Golf Club, with its stunning course and great food. The closest amenities are in Brecon, which is a 10 minute drive away. There you will find: 3 supermarkets, cinema, theatre, chemists, post office, outward bound shops, pubs, restaurants, hospital, canal, river with paddle boats, military museum, sports centre and bike hire shop. Within 25 miles: Pen-y-Fan (South Wales' highest peak) The Big Pitt (coal mine) Brecon Mountain Railway Penderyn Distillery Dan-yr-Ogof caves Waterfall walks Abseiling & Rock climbing centres Horse riding / trekking Hay Literacy Festival (May) Abergavenny Food Festival (September) Brecon Jazz Festival (August) Builth Agricultural Show and lots lots more!
  • Wonderful spot. Great cosy hut with thoughtful touches. Felt like a lovely private space with amazing views. A perfect base for a walking holiday or just a place to get away from it all.

    Jimmy2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The Acorn was a perfect getaway for exploring the Brecon Beacons! Such a snug, stylish and comfortable place in amazing surroundings. Loved the thoughtful touches (the mini welsh cakes were amazing!) and the bed was so comfy! We loved stargazing in front of the firepit with a drink to keep us warm. Thank you so much Sophie and Tim for a great stay, we will be back!

    Sophie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Where to begin. What a fantastic place. Spotlessly clean inside and out with beautifully fresh smelling bedding and towels. The attention to detail is second to none, every little thing has been thought of from ice cubes and milk in the fridge, to marshmallows for the fire pit. It’s the perfect base for exploring Brecon and the views of Pen-Y-Fan are going to be hard to beat. There’s nothing quite like waking up and seeing the rolling hills and mountains from bed. Sophie’s hospitality is 5 star. Would highly recommend.

    Matthew2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! It's sad because we didn't been lucky with weather, but overall everything was perfect. Also Sophie is amazing host!

    Julius2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The ‘Acorn’ is an amazing place to stay, in a really special private spot. I was a bit concerned about staying in such a small hut 800 metres above sea level with storm Dennis arriving, the communication from Sophie reassured me, the hut it so well built it didn’t even wobble in the high winds. Sophie added some nice touches before our arrival which made it extra special, we hope to return in the summer.

    Tom2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful getaway for relaxation. Loved all the personal touches Sophie put out. Looking forward to booking my next stay! X

    Aisling2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the Shepard’s hut. As many have written it’s even nicer than the pictures. Can truly recommend it.

    Maja2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I'm literally just home from a 2 night stay at a the Acorn. What a magical little hut. It's unique, and quaint. The little touches are great, and Sophie has thought of everything. The added space between the hut and the shed is AWESOME, having the opportunity to sit outside come rain or shine...or even storm Ciara is great, and even better that you can BBQ, or have a fire mid the worst storm in 7yrs. I really didn't want to leave. Hope to return in summer to appreciate the dark skies. Thank you so much for having us 😊 Kirstie

  • A beautiful space nestled in the Brecon Beacons, that provided me and friends a great get away weekend. Amazingly decorated with a welcoming feel and great hospitality. Thanks for a great trip.

  • Lovely, cosy accommodation. Home from home.

    Sara2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in the coach house. The visibility was bad and the weather was worse, up on Pen y Fan, which was no surprise in February, but we all came home happy and we relaxed in your lovely space. Everything was just as we’d hoped and I slept very well. Thanks, Beate.

    Jon2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve had a wonderful three nights in the coach house! Wonderfully cosy, and the most fantastic location for the Brecon Beacons and Four Waterfalls trail. We most definitely recommend a stay here!

    Ellie2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Coach House is spotlessly clean, well equipped and in a great location. We had everything we needed, a well equipped kitchen, nice hot bath and shower and comfy bed. Beate and Tim also made us feel very welcome indeed and are really friendly, thank you! We really enjoyed the drive up the A40 with great scenes along the way and drive through Cricklehowell and other small villages. Sennybridge is a short drive and we spent a fun evening at The Usk and Railway Inn with many people making conversation on New Year’s Eve . The Brecon Beacons Centre is only 15 mins drive and is well worth visiting.

    Darren2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect, everything you need.

    Scott2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at the coach house is amazing, the location is perfect for surrounding areas of the Brecon beacons and it's so secluded and peaceful. The house itself is so cute and cosy inside, me and my boyfriend stayed for a couple of nights and both nights stayed in and cooked, watching TV and playing games (they have board games!). When we arrived Beate had left us some delicious Welsh cakes and eggs from their hens which we turned into pancakes the next day. The bed is super comfy, the bath is huge and the whole place has such a homely feel. The heating is also easy to use on the colder winter nights! We loved it and would love to come back

  • The accommodation is a self contained bungalow with all amenities needed and more. Spotlessly clean, amazing Egyptian cotton bedding and perfect for my walks up Pen Y Fan (ten mins drive away). Wifi, Sky Q and all extra luxuries provided, and the kitchen space was brand new and spotless also. Chris & Kara were the perfect hosts, responded to any queries very quickly over text and left me alone to my own devices across the stay. Lots of tips and maps etc. left for you by the hosts and a very simple guide book to the accommodation. It is in the middle of a farm area, so a tad away from civilisation (circa 3miles max), but I actually walked into Sennybridge and back one evening for a few beers and dinner in one of the local pubs. The food was amazing! I will definitely be back! Loved the place!

Gilfach translates from the Welsh as ‘nook’ or ‘hideaway’. This perfectly describes the farm, tucked away in a steep sided valley yet only 5mins drive from the A40. The farm dates back four hundred years. A more recent addition to the farm is a traditional log cabin. Tucked away it affords privacy and fantastic views of the valley. Gilfach is just north of the Brecon Beacons national park and nestling in the folds of the hills. The Cabin has everything you need to enjoy tranquillity and rest.
The Cabin benefits from all modern comforts to make it a warm and cosy place to snuggle into whatever the weather. The shower room has an electric shower. There is a double bedroom and separate bedroom with full sized bunk beds. There is Freeview TV and WiFi. The double doors in the lounge area open out onto a spacious decking.
  • We had a wonderful, short stay at Hugh's cabin with our 2 girls aged 2 and 4 and our 2 mini sausage dogs. The property was extremely well insulated, clean and cosy. We had an excellent time away from London life and will be returning again for sure. Thank you Hugh.

    Victoria2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely location and nice for our children to roam around the farm. We had very good weather, saw many stars and had amazing walks in the area. I would definitely recommend the cabin.

    Christine2019-10-23T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in the cabin. The views were spectacular and it really felt like a secret hide away. Our daughters loved playing in the nearby stream and meeting Oscar. We very much hope to return in the future.

  • Hugh’s lodge is a really amazing place to stay , we went with 3 children who absolutly loved the farm and loved seeing Hugh’s dog Oscar and the views are spectacular . Also Hugh is a great host . We will definitely be returning soon . Thanks Hugh

  • Wonderful, cosy cabin. Surprisingly private corner on a working farm. Views were amazing. Everything we needed and brilliant location. Surrounded in amazing caves and landscapes to explore. We have a one-year old and he absolutely loved it too.

    Katie2019-05-25T00:00:00Z
  • My wife, 5yr old son and 2yr old daughter and I just spent 4 nights in the Tucked Away Log Cabin, and we all had a fantastic time. Everything you might need is in the cabin, it's warm, comfortable and in a great location. We'd have loved to have been able to sit on the decking to eat but it was just a bit too nippy for that being early April, but anyone staying in warmer times are bound to love it out there. Special mention to Oscar, the very friendly resident doggy. 1st eve I was there I took a walk around the area to a stream at the bottom of the hill and he joined me for a stroll, I appreciated the company. All in all, I really recommend staying at one of Hugh's places on his farm, he's very helpful and friendly and you're bound to have a great time.

  • River run is so beautiful. The kitchen has everything you need and more. The bathroom is so super stylish and the bed .... omg so comfy. Jaynes place is immaculate with amazing little touches making your stay so comfortable and easy. Amazing fluffy dressing gowns and was lovely and warm when we arrived. Beautiful location and the garden is incredible with the river running at the bottom. Great cafe which does breakfast a minute walk down the road too 👍 Thank you so much for letting us stay we really didnt want to leave 😆😍

  • Jaynes place is in a lovely location with nice local amenities. Jayne was an excellent host and providing flowers and home made cookies for my Mums birthday

    Tom2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy loft apartment, meticulously decorated and everything was spotlessly clean. The outdoor space was amazing and surpassed our expectations: so many places to sit with a cuppa, our favourite spot was right by the river at the bottom of the garden. All in all, a lot of thought had gone into making it the best experience possible for visitors, including a bottle of milk and homemade biscuits on arrival. I would definitely recommend this apartment and would stay again in the future.

    Heather2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location for walking in the recon Beacons.

    Ann2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay in Jayne’s place and it was even more lovely than the photos. The location is great and there are 3 pubs within a few minutes walk, plus at least another 2 also within walking distance (we recommend the nearby Red Lion:). Jayne was welcoming and having on site massage and access to good quality mountain bikes was a good option to have too. Overall we would definitely recommend this as a place to stay!

    Andy2019-04-17T00:00:00Z
  • The space was as described, well appointed, comfortable and warm, with the convection heater for when you come back from a walk! Good directions from Jayne, very responsive to questions and flexible (we asked for a later checkout as we were going walking in the storm and wanted to have a shower when we got back!). Very well placed for access to Brecons.

  • This was a great place to stay. It was spotlessly clean. The facilities were good - everything you need to cook with in the kitchen. The robes were a lovely touch. Communication with the host was excellent, always a quick response. Location was good - easy to find and easy access to anywhere in the area. Would highly recommend.

  • Jayne’s place is fantastic. A spotlessly clean, cosy and quirky room, with everything you could possibly need to relax after tiring days out in the Beacons. The room had all the amenities you could need, as well as feeling like your on safari! We had a lovely stay here. There is also a useful book full of local walks, pub recommendations and things to do. Would definitely recommend.

    Ben2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely location on the edge of the Brecon Beacons with easy access to all local tourist spots. A good handful of pubs to hand made for nice evenings but pubs aside, there isn’t much else locally, so be prepared to travel. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the theming made for an entertaining giggle. Really fun. If coming with dogs, please note there is a small extra to be paid on arrival. This is mentioned on the listing, but deep within a sub menu so easily missed. We would happily visit again.

    Garry2019-06-23T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely property in a great location. Nice walks locally. Facilities in the property were great, plenty of amenities in the kitchen for cooking and nice space to relax for the evening. Very welcoming host and although we didn’t need any help whilst we were there it would have been very easy to get it if we needed it. Would certainly stay again

    Antoni2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Jaynes! She is a very attentive host and replies to messages quickly. The decor was brilliant and the room has a very comfy bed! The garden is gorgeous, my partner and I enjoyed spending the evening sitting outside with a cold drink listening to the river as the sun set. Jayne has ensured the kitchen is fully equipped with anything you need for dinner, and the bathroom is lovely with underfloor heating and animal print robes! There’s 3 pubs in walking distance, we would definitely recommend the Railway & Usk - the staff are friendly and the food is unbelievably good! You have to go!!

  • Beautiful finish and fantastic location, as a break away it ticked all the boxes

  • Faultless stay in this immaculately presented accommodation. What a beautiful home! Helen was a superb host, and was readily available with answers to any questions we had. The house is superbly located for walking and whilst it feels remote, is also close to local towns too. The accommodation was very clean and well equipped. Bathroom well equipped, bed very comfortable (not sure where the lady below stayed!). Beautiful sitting area, superb feature fire place that we had burning every evening. We have stayed in a lot of houses in this area, and this is up there as the very best. We will definitely return, and suggest you give it a try. You will not be disappointed.

  • Great place, very spacious, great location with lovely walks around it... peace and quiet, perfection... Hosts very discrete and yet always attentive. Highly recommended.

    John2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Zoe was a great host - we had 2 amazing weeks in this cottage. When our friends stayed in the adjoining cottage this made for an ideal location. The option to connect the cottages together was genius, so we could meet up in the games room or simply have an open door into each other's cottages if we wanted to. The cottages themselves are spacious, well maintained and were all we were hoping they would be. Zoe couldn't have done anything more to make our stay more memorable, whenever we had any queries or needed help she was on it straight away and kept us up to date with what was going on. Thoroughly recommend this host and the cottages!

The Old Sunday School Room next to the River Hydfer is a lovely cottage in the centre of the tiny hamlet of Traianglas, just 2 miles from the village of Trecastle. It is perfect for couples or families who enjoy staying in a traditional Victorian building that has been renovated sympathetically to include all mod cons. In the heart of the Brecon Beacons, the cottage is ideally placed for hillwalking, cycling and exploring.
The upstairs is where the living accommodation is, making the most of the light and views across fields and hills. The bedrooms downstairs have replaced what was originally a stable where visiting clergy would tie their horses up.
Trecastle has 2 pubs. The Three Horse Shoes is a family friendly pub perfect for a well earned pint after a hearty walk - or enjoy a bar meal at the Castle Coaching Inn. While in Trecastle it is worth having a look at the 2 antiques centres, Trecastle Antiques and Vicarage Row Antiques. The cottage is an ideal base for a number of activities. The Usk Reservoir, a short drive away, is an excellent fishing centre. There are numerous walking and cycling routes on the doorstep too. The market town of Brecon, famous for its Summer Jazz Festival is only 12 miles away in one direction. 11 miles in the other is Llandovery, famous for its history of droving.
  • Very well equipped house with everything you need for a relaxing stay in the Brecon Beacons. Thoughtful and helpful host. Just right for a family if 4 - wonderful skies at night and walking from the door.

  • Fantastic space, the living room is huge, with the big, comfy sofa perfect for curling up on when there's a storm raging outside! The local walking, as much as we could get to due to the storm, was great, lovely views over the surrounding countryside. Sharon was always quick to respond and the directions and amenities were first class.

Local pubs and shops within a mile. We are midway between Brecon and Llandovery with walks in the Beacons and the Black Mountain minutes away. Lots of birds visit the garden feeders and Red Kites soar overhead. We don’t have WiFi but excellent 4G BED LINEN , Towels and tea towels provided .

  • The location is breath-taking, rolling hills with livestock and a gorgeous stream running nearby. You're far enough to 'get away from it all', but only a 5-10 minute drive from pubs, petrol stations and of course the walks! The house is fantastic, Nikki has created a home away from home - we felt settled straight away. The open fire is so comforting, and the character of the house makes it an amazing getaway. It was immaculate, with a modern kitchen and plenty of space across the house to store everything you would need. We will definitely be coming back again!

Well equipped, very comfortable and immaculately clean. Having the added bonus of access to the barbecue lodge provided our family to have fun whilst it chucked it down! Would highly recommend this property and consider it very good value.

  • Wonderful nature experience ! Wendy was a Super host providing a safe and clean environment was very friendly and informative. Even though there are fantastic photos of surrounding scenery in the ad they can not capture the beauty of this location. We took amazing walks directly from back of property which ultimately leads to the Brecon circuit.

Stay in the Brecon Beacons National Park in a quiet characterful 500 year old house, with walking distance to 6 village pubs. The room has two single beds and an adjoining bathroom with shower over bath, basin & toilet. The bathroom is just for this room and not shared.
  • Everything we needed and great location. Thank you

Set like a jewel in the beautiful Brecon Beacons, the Barn Loft is super luxurious accommodation. Both cosy and private it's a place to snuggle down and get away from it all. It is snug, light, airy and free of draughts. It has a comfortable feeling and is well centrally heated from the farm biomass heating system. If the weather is good it is an ideal location for outdoor pursuits. If the weather is poor, stay inside and be cosy, reading, watching DVDs, listening to music, playing games.
The Loft benefits from all modern comforts to make it a warm and cosy place to snuggle into whatever the weather. The washroom has a power shower and the king sized bed has top quality wool duvet and luxury mattress topper. The original oak roof trusses are lovely to see – but please mind your head! There is Freeview TV and WiFi. There is also collection of books, DVDs and games. Gilfach is a traditional Welsh hill farm. There are sixty acres of pasture, ancient woodland, larch plantation and rough bracken and wetland meadows. It is home three British White cows and five horses.
  • Lovely and warm loft apartment which was amazing to return too in the cold winter weather. very spacious bedroom too which was lovely. All amemties you will need. Take some wellies or spare shoes if its rainy as there can be mud about. As expected on a farm
