SoulSpace is home to 50+ rescued farm animals. Our mission is to help end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education, and advocacy. Check in with Kara, the Founder of SoulSpace, have a personal tour of the Sanctuary, then spend your visit relaxing on the peaceful 11 acre property, and spending as much time with the animals as you would like. Stillwater has many options for great food and nightlife and is a 15-20 minute drive from the sanctuary.
“My wife and I went to Soulspace for her birthday getaway weekend. We are both vegan and Kara gave us some good suggestions. The house is all vegan and they are excellent to the animal residents. Great smells often fill the kitchen and animal sounds fill the air! The location is great. It is in a pretty rural town. It is calming to be away from things. However, in a pinch, civilization is nearby in the surprisingly hopping downtown of Stillwater, MN, only 20 minutes away. We tried out Tilted Tiki, which had a fun tropical theme and a unique cover band on Saturday night. They have a well labeled menu with many vegan options. It's mostly a "mock-meat" menu, but they really surprised us with their marinated (actual) tofu "wings" and pineapple fried rice. Creative drinks, too! The next day, we drove into the Twin Cities to see the Mall of America (try the food at "Crave" while there) and capped the evening off with dinner at the all plant-based Minneapolis restaurant "Fig + Farro." Upscale dining with really creative flavors! A must. The sanctuary itself is wonderful. The large attic-type room has tons of great amenities and is a few steep steps above the bathroom, which is also yours. There is plenty to help you unwind: a coffee machine, fridge, a record player, Alexa, Netflix, old school Nintendo, art supplies etc. It felt very welcoming and easy to relax. Make sure you're not running too much stuff at once or you'll trip a breaker, but that's nothing to fret much about. We didn't have time to try out the awesome-looking tub, but it looked very relaxing. Kara leaves you space to yourselves, but is also easily available if you need a suggestion, help or an offer for some homemade soup. One of the workers was staying in the house as well and he was very nice (he made some nice-smelling pancakes). The house has a lot of animals (dogs, cats, Hey Hey the rooster) and you'll probably find one or two of the critters wander into your room. We really bonded with one of the cats, who slept us one night. We went outside and hung out with the animals wherever we had a moment and it was fun to learn about their different personalities. There are a ton of awesome birds. The donkey Amos and goat Tally were like brothers and the turkeys will follow you around curiously like they own the place. It's funny. The farm pigs are so huge and gentle. You always think about pigs having huge snouts, but their ears are enormous. They are intelligent animals and it's comforting to know they have a place to live out their lives. We are already talking about coming back to visit someday. Go here... you won't regret it.”

“Jill was such a sweetie! She left a candy bar in the fridge with a note wishing us a Happy Valentine’s Day :) there was serene classical music playing upon arrival- wonderful start to a weekend away. Check in and check out were so easy. I will admit it’s not as private/secluded as i thought it would be or I thought the pictures made it look. But with that being said it was still WONDERFUL. It’s on a street with several other houses but it’s not too close to any of them. The hot tub is in a corner of the house deck so it’s as private as it can be in a residential area. I have already sent the link of this place to two friends! So I definitely and highly recommend :)”

“The epitome of Minnesota Nice! Fantastic hospitality, homemade baked goods, and a place that feels like home! I was very impressed with this stay. Every day Deb would refill the room’s humidifier and leave a fresh plate of cookies on the night stand for me to enjoy after a long day of work! Every morning I was given a fantastic homemade muffin and fresh brewed cup of coffee. The neighborhood is beautiful and the location is super convenient!”
