"Helen Hideaway," condo in beautiful Helen Georgia

DawnRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
The unit was as described. The location was quiet and private. It would be perfect for two people but was, as expected, a bit tight with two adults and two teens. Thankfully ours was a short stay so it worked great. It is rather dark because it is mostly below grade so the only windows are in the bedroom. There were plenty of linens. Stacy was very responsive.

The Hooch Hideaway

MandyRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Location, location, location! Everything is within walking distance. We loved leaving our car and just walking out the door. It's right above a restaurant so the parking lot does get crowded, but you do have a designated parking spot. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the tubers in the river. At night all the buildings are lit up and the view is great. The rental itself was perfect for what we needed. The listing doesn't mention it, but it does have a hairdryer and washer/dryer inside. Huge comfy bed. Overall a great stay!

Shannon was a great host! The property was as described and in great condition and the location was perfect. We felt right at home for our weekend getaway. The bed was very comfortable and there were plenty of extra towels and pillows. They even had some snacks waiting for us. It is obvious that they put a lot of care into making this place feel like a home. We will definitely be staying here again if we come back!

Helen WasserHaus (Water Tower) on Chattahoochee

IsabelRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Honestly this stay was wonderful. A beautiful, well thought out space that comfortably fit 6 people especially while we waited out the rain. This stay is walking distance from Main Street of Helen (which my mother enjoyed) but private enough to enjoy the river, live music from the Hofbrahaus Resturant, and other sounds of nature (which my dad was looking for). The host was very responsive for all questions throughout our stay. The only feedback I have is about the lack of lights in the back porch near the grill & hot tub. I’m glad the hot tub itself gave off light but a couple of string lights would be great for the atmosphere. The host mentioned they planned to add more light next week so that’s about it! Thank you for creating such a wonderful space and the opportunity for my family in I to reconnect. We look forward to coming back again in the future!

Eric was a great host - very responsive, helpful and shared great recommendations on the local area (restaurants, wineries, etc.). When I got home and discovered I had left a couple of items in the cabin, he mailed them back to me the next day. Really nice person who will go the extra mile to ensure you have a great stay and overall experience.

Oma's Farmhouse romantic getaway.

MeganRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We absolutely fell in love with Oma's place during our stay! Surrounded by beautiful, relaxing nature, Oma's place is close to all the things to do, yet private in its own little spot away from the hustle and bustle. The hosts were super sweet, and even left some delicious banana bread for us which was much appreciated. Thanks again for a lovely stay, and we'd love to return again some day!!

This place is a real gem! Don’t hesitate to stay here if you are in the area! The cabin is quaint but it never felt small and they really have thought of everything to make your stay so comfortable! We loved the decor and all the little extras did not go unnoticed by myself or my two kids! We would gladly stay here again if in the Hiawassee area!

Waterfall Views, Lake Hartwell, Highland Architect

SeanRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Beautiful, amazing and perfect for a getaway with friends or romantic stay. Architecturally stunning. Great example of mid-century modern with lots of cut outs, glass and details. Not for the mobile challenged (stairs and a bit of a walk from the car parking) and lots of glass (you give some privacy with other house mates) so if that is not your thing, I wouldn't recommend it. Very quiet except when you open the doors to the waterfall. First day, some water cascading over but after a rain it was all white and mesmerizing. Beds are small but very comfortable. I was able to cook some great meals and they had a lot of items you don't always have, like aluminum foil. Took the hosts recommendation for a vineyard (distillery was the highlight) and a stop in Toccoa, GA. Just book it and enjoy.

Usually when you stay at an Airbnb, you get what you pay for but here we got a very unexpected and never before experienced stay. Every single detail was so thoughtful and so generous, and it made our time an absolute blessing. Joan and clay are such a joy to talk with and they have gone far above and beyond any other place to make sure we had everything we could want or need. Truly felt like they were family and enjoyed our stay so so much. Will be back soon.

Great place for the price, everything was super clean. I usually expect a kitchen at a hostel, so just be aware there is only a microwave and a mini fridge and a coffee maker. It’s next-door to a gun shop, so don’t be alarmed if you hear a gunshot! We only heard one in four days. The bed in our first room was broken, but they were very responsive and immediately moved us to a different room.

Your guide to Helen

Introduction

In the 1960s, a group of enterprising residents transformed this then-struggling mill town in the Blue Ridge Mountains into a traditional Alpine-inspired village in a bid to attract visitors. It paid off. Today, the unexpected mix of sights—fairytale buildings and cobblestone paths, artisan pottery studios and Bavarian-style beer gardens—has helped make Helen one of the state’s most-visited towns. Its prime location doesn’t hurt, either: It’s within easy reach of north Georgia’s wine country and untouched wilderness. Hike to nearby waterfalls, shoot across Unicoi State Park on a zipline, or just tube through town on the Chattahoochee River before breaking for beers and brats, or returning to cozy up in your cabin rental.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Helen

Helen’s mild climate makes it a year-round getaway. Expect highs in the 60-and 70-degree (Fahrenheit) range in the spring and fall, 80s in the summer, and 50s in the winter. Whatever time of year you visit, pack a jacket as evenings can dip in temperature, and an umbrella for surprise (though typically brief) rain showers, along with appropriate outdoor shoes and gear.

Top things to do in Helen

Anna Ruby Falls

Reachable by a half-mile-long paved path in the Chattahoochee National Forest, this pair of waterfalls delivers a thunderous payoff without a lot of sweat. From the waterfalls, take the interpretive Lion’s Eye Trail to learn about the park’s ecosystem (the path is fully accessible, with signs also in braille), or try the more challenging Smith Creek Trail (9 miles roundtrip). Parking is limited near the entry to the falls, so try to arrive by the park’s opening at 10 a.m. during the peak season.

Chattahoochee River

From May to September, floating down the river in an inner tube (aka “shooting the Hooch”) is a peak Helen experience. Local outfitters rent inner tubes and offer pickup and dropoff services for a float that lasts 1 to 2.5 hours.

Sautee Nacoochee Center

This 8.5-acre cultural center gives you a full picture of Helen’s past, with galleries and sites dedicated to local Native and African American history, folk pottery, and gold mining. Or take a deep, restorative breath in the Native Peace garden.
