Cottage retreat in isolated Welsh hills - sleeps 4

Priyanka DivekarRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a truly wonderful stay at Trish’s beautiful cottage nestled among the hills. The house itself was stunning, featuring charming wooden interiors and thoughtful design throughout. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Trish and Ian were incredibly friendly and welcoming hosts. They gave us great recommendations for scenic walks with breathtaking mountain views. They even took the time to show us their other nearby properties, which were equally impressive - especially the one with the huge, cozy fireplace and beautiful architecture. One of the highlights of our trip was spending time with the lovely farm animals especially Jerry the pony, who absolutely stole our hearts! We also met some friendly chickens and George, their lovable dog. For those who prefer not to interact with animals, there’s no pressure but our group of four loved the experience and were grateful to be allowed to meet them. Highly recommend this beautiful stay!

Ebony Cottage

MeganRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We were so lucky to stay in this beautiful cottage for our honeymoon and it couldn’t have been more perfect. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel so welcome — Ellie was incredibly friendly and thoughtful, leaving us lovely cakes to enjoy on arrival. The cottage (and its surroundings) is full of charm and just as whimsical as the pictures suggest. It was the perfect place to relax and enjoy quality time together. We also enjoyed the easy drives into Ludlow, Leominster, Tenbury Wells and local walks. We can’t thank Ellie enough for creating such a beautiful, memorable experience — we’ll definitely be back one day!

Designer house, balcony, views, sauna, pool

KateRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
A little piece of heaven. Just perfect for a few days of R&R. Although, the amount of walking we did there wasn’t much rest. The views from the balcony are something else, we somehow managed to lose 3 hrs sat there on our first afternoon. The location is perfect for getting on to the A40 and to further afield. We did not take advantage of the pool or saunas (which, now home feels like it was a wasted opportunity). The pool area is beautiful, and can see in the depths of summer being a real treat. From the booking Ruth was so helpful in giving us recommendations for where to visit and eat. Take the advice when it comes to The Angel Bakery in Abergavenny! It is out of this world. We throughly enjoyed our stay at the pavilion and hope to visit again.

The Game Larders

ShaunRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Absolutely loved our stay, such a beautiful peaceful place. Jamie is a super friendly person, and made us feel so welcome. So much wildlife as well, from a kingfisher to the regular grey wagtails and stunning setting, the vineyards and walk around the house was lovely. Couldn’t recommend this place enough.

Outfield - Country get away

MartynRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
A lovely house with large gardens and great views. Cathy was extremely welcoming and very helpful. Large lounge and dining area. Hanging storage space was limited but there were drawers for clothes in each bedroom. Garden was lovely for dogs but you need to check the main gate is shut before letting them roam freely. Would stay again if in the area.

Abergavenny - Barn on the slopes of the Sugar Loaf

AnneRating, 5 stars3 days ago
We loved staying at the Barn! Well-appointed and immaculate, light and airy. All of the amenities are top-grade, right down to the Le Creuset dinnerware. If you’re a hiker, the Brecon Beacons are literally at your feet; the trail to Sugarloaf is down the road. Caitlin is an excellent and responsive host who offers advice and answers queries quickly. Would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Put short, we didn't want to leave. It was fantastic from start to finish, Hayley was welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. We had some fantastic treatments while staying, and fully made use of the amenities. Such a wonderful location, can't wait to hopefully return.

You found it! :Sauna, HotTub & Cold Plunge Escape

TachaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We loved our stay here - quirky and unusual, but felt right at home! Gorgeous views. The hot tub was easy to set up with clear instructions, and enough logs to last us our stay. The natural pool was beautiful and had lovely newts and felt very calm. Check-in and out instructions were very clear, and we had all the facilities we needed.

Barn with pool + fitness studio

CaitlinRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Such a lovely place to stay. We only booked for two nights and wish we had been there for longer. Lots of really interesting features (a suit of armour! A harp!) in a well stocked house. Very comfortable beds and sofas, beautiful views (we especially enjoyed all the bird nesting in the eaves), gorgeous interior, starry Dark Skies and nice hosts - what's not to love? Great parking. Wish we could have had a few more nights, to check out the pub just down the road.

We had a great stay at the barn, celebrating a big birthday. There were 6 adults staying and we were all extremely comfortable. Mike and Joan were very hospitable, generous and responsive. The barn is as fabulous as the photos suggest. The views are amazing. The pool is wonderful. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay. We very much hope to return.

Old stone estate building, Gardeners Cottage

KellyRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Really charming space - honestly it could do with a touch of modernisation but actually once you are settled it is really really lovely. It is really quiet and the views out of the window are just glorious. The linen is immaculate and I slept so well. Excellent host and communicator. Would go back for sure.

Elegant Home with Pool & Sauna near Golf Course

DeniseRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Beautiful property. The house is huge—we joked that we probably wouldn’t use all of the rooms—but we did. The whole experience felt luxurious—seriously, a pool? We had trouble with the sauna—better directions would be helpful—but the issue was addressed speedily. And I don’t know why people complain about the lumber yard; we noticed nothing. Hats off to Phoebe and Jan!

Outshot Barn, with swimming pool near Hay-on-Wye

NajmaRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
What a beautiful place to stay. We weee so lucky there was a last minute opening to book as it is usually booked up (we heated from Sally the host). Stunningly decorated, well equipped, incredibly peaceful and stunning surroundings. An incredibly helpful host. The swimming pool was an added luxury. Definitely returning for more getaways here.

Olive Barn at Cwmhir Court

DaisyRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Such a lovely private spacious house and garden. A great set up for a break away with our extended family. Plenty of room to get together to cook, eat and socialise, then split off for some more quiet time when needed. Everything was clean and tidy, and we had all we needed. A beautiful location and very near to hay on wye which is worth a visit. Only slight downside is that the internet wasn’t brilliant, but that’s to be expected in the middle of the countryside and also meant we weren’t sat on our phones scrolling too much! The internet did work, just not super fast. Definitely recommend, and we’ll be looking to book again.

Semi detached, 3 bedroomed, pretty house.

FrancesRating, 5 stars4 days ago
Peaceful, clean and cosy, and had everything we needed. We arrived in the middle of a heatwave and managed to keep cool, thanks to the curtains being shut to keep the sun out when we arrived. It was perfect for me and my two adult daughters to enjoy a get together and for us to explore the wonderful bookshops in Hay. My youngest daughter, who is currently studying English Literature at York, was in book heaven. I’d love to return to explore the walks in the area.

Cherry Trees

LucyRating, 5 stars6 days ago
Cherry Trees was exceptional and beautifully presented. It was easy to get in to the property and all was as described. The only small feedback we’d give is maybe a sign outside the house would be helpful, but that’s not a criticism but more feedback. The house was extremely clean and everything was provided in the kitchen and around the house including guest book, hairdryers, etc. The location is great and only a 5 minute walk in to the main Hay town, which is full of gorgeous book shops, places to stop for coffee and food and Hay Castle. We recommend going to ‘The Wobbly Owl’ for wonderful service, delicious cider and lovely handmade soaps, oils, creams, etc. We loved our stay in Hay and will be back.

Charming Rustic Farmhouse & Barn

HannahRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Myself and a group of friends had a great stay at Lucy's! The barns were lovely and homey, and the setting was beautiful to sit out and have a bbq in the evening. The kitchen was really well equipped and the communal spaces a great size for us as a group to socialise in the evening. Check in and out was easy and communication always quick too :)

The Cuckoo's Nest

KateRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We were delighted with our stay at The Cuckoo's Nest. The hosts are friendly and responsive. The property was very easy to find, has a spaceous parking spot and a beautiful, gated courtyard garden with an outdoor dining area. The interior is clean, spaceous and bright with garden views and plenty of options for window opening/blinds/curtains. We found the bed super comfortable and the kitchen contained everything we needed for our stay, including coffee, sugar, milk in the fridge, and some delicious Welsh cakes. The bathroom is large and modern with a super shower, fluffy towels, and lovely tiles. It's just a short walk into town where there are numerous attractive shops, cafes, and pubs. There is also a hotel very close to the property with a varied menu and a pleasant bar. There are plenty of footpaths around Hay with something for everyone, whether you want a short stroll by the river or a full day's hike in the Black Mountains. We had a great stay and would highly recommend! :)

The Lion’s Den Studio

JagrutiRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
A beautiful little studio, perfect for a long weekend ( or longer) in the very heart of Hay on Wye town. The location could not have been better for exploring this beautiful town and attending the festival which was a shuttle bus ride away ( not bad value at £5 for a day ticket ) outside the Oxford Road car park (£4 per day). You could walk the 15/20 mins to the festival. The studio was exactly as described; the hosts were kind enough to leave us a bottle of milk on our arrival which was very useful. There is a lovely whole farm style local shop nearby which also sells milk by the pint in a traditional glass bottle or you can pop to the SPAR nearby. We were a family of 3, and the sofa bed was perfect for our little one and could easily have fit another child. Great stay and we’d definitely come back again.
