We look forward to warmly welcoming you to The Byre, a lovely renovated and historic farm cottage nestled in the countryside near the west coast town of Oban. Immerse yourself in the experience of living like a local on this traditional highland farm, run by a Scottish family from one of the ancient highland clans. You have the entire use of the cosy cottage with its exposed roof timbers and original stone walls. Relax, unwind and soak up the beauty in this special, peaceful cottage.
“This is one of the best places we have had the pleasure of staying in. The location is ideal for exploring the area and both Niall and his father have some wonderful tips for things to do. Upon arrival, the house was perfectly clean and very cosy and comfortably set up. There were lots of lovely homely touches - which we very much appreciated. The hospitality was superb, we loved learning about the history of the building and being able to experience part of the farm, by feeding the animals, just topped off an already brilliant time. We would whole heartedly recommend Niall's place to anyone, and we are very keen to return.”
Uppa Close is accessible by public transport, but it is better to have a car, as restaurants and attractions are a short distance away. It's perfect for two people, but can accommodate another two on a sofa bed in the living room. It is a ten minute drive from Loch Lomond, twenty minute drive from Glasgow Airport, and a forty minute drive from Glasgow city centre.
“Elizabeth is very responsive and accommodating. Her flat is a step back to groovier times with great touches like retro decor and appliances. We had no problems with anything, and our stay was very comfortable. Thanks Elizabeth!”
Unique, single-room glass-fronted hut in a silver birch/rowan wood on a small hill, full of character with a spectacular view 25 miles to the South East. Rannoch Moor is a place of peace and tranquillity, there is no noise (after the 9.05pm train) and no light pollution. Weather permitting, you can watch the stars and sunrise while lying in bed, see deer walking in the wood, experience being cosy in the midst of dramatic weather or listen to the dawn chorus. Pls read all details before booking.
“The Star was as cute and idyllic as the pictures made it out to be. Rannoch Moor is a stunning area and the views were breathtaking. The tea and coffee facilities were just right and the fact that we were given fresh milk and bottles water each morning was very much appreciated. As stated there is no loo in the hut but the facilities at the train station were always clean tidy and warm (radiator was always on) so getting up in the night wasn't as bad as you'd think. There was a flashlight provided for your nocturnal visits which was very thoughtful. Bill also provides information leaflets on local walks as well as an OS map of the area, a compass and a pair of binoculars for those of you who wish to explore the area. I promise you the walks are beautiful. The entire weekend was peaceful, relaxing and invigorating. I highly recommend The Star Hut as a base for those who enjoy the Scottish wilderness. My husband and I would love to return sometime in the future.”
