Suite Spot at Sugar Mountain-Summer Getaway!

The view was breathtaking. The room was clean, neat and tidy. Space was a little tight, but it worked. Having the box fan because there wasn't AC was a definite plus. Appliances and kitchen were clean and well organized.

Bluebird's Barn

LibbyRating, 5 stars8 months ago
We loved the peaceful, rural setting. The Bluebird's Barn was comfortable, cozy, and rustically decorated with Claudia’s fun antiques , quilts, artwork , and many personal touches. The furnishings were of high quality and obviously picked to reflect the “Bluebird” theme and her design skills. The courtyard included a beautiful crabapple tree that not only provided privacy but also beautiful Fall foliage, yummy crabapples for jam, and fun nightly wildlife visits. We loved sitting on the front porch and on the patio, under the trees sipping wine, painting and journaling. The quiet setting certainly provided the vacation we needed. Our time at the Bluebird cabin was one we will forever remember and hope to repeat annually. Getting to know Claudia and experiencing her warmth and kindness was an absolute bonus! Needless to say, we highly recommend the Bluebird’s Barn for your stay!!!

Sugar Mtn Ski & Country Club with treehouse feel

PhilipRating, 5 stars1 month ago
I had a great month long early spring stay at this mountainside studio condo with beautiful mountain and valley views. The unit was clean, comfortable, relaxing, and was perfect for my very simple needs. There are many on site and nearby (non-ski season) mountain hiking trails and quiet neighborhood road walking routes. I appreciated having access to the heated indoor pool and fitness room in the community clubhouse. Overall, a wonderful spot for anyone looking to enjoy the mountains!

Cozy Condo in the Clouds

KatlynRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Great escape for my hubby and I for a one night getaway. Host was proactive in communicating as I booked same day, response was quick and thoroug, directions plus details for check-in. Space was easy to access, quiet, with a beautiful view, large windows, nice furniture. TV, with multiple streaming options, fireplace was great for ambiance. Shower had good water pressure! Bed was very comfy and laying in it you will feel like you are in the clouds with your view of the mountains. We did use the clubhouse facilities, sauna, pool and hot tub all very clean and quiet with very few guests, only us and another family of 3 when we were just heading back to the room. *My only suggestions would be to upgrade bathroom amenities with nice bottles of shampoo and conditioner, body wash. This is something I really appreciate when traveling and adds to the sensory experience when remembering the trip. Overall great experience for our quiet escape for two. Thanks Valentina!

Longview Luxury Loft ~ Amazing Mountain View’s

CherieRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Cozy, quiet, clean, and the views... wow. My husband and I decided we needed to get away. We love Sugar Mountain and discovered this cute, tiny little place. The bed against the window with the dramatic mountain views became our favorite spot to rest and relax. Because we are both in business and have insurance clients, we brought our work with us. Somehow, in this little condo, we both got much done. What a comfortable stay! We will come back again.

This is our second time staying at Oana's place. It's a perfect location and walkable to Beech Mtn resort as long as you don't mind the uphill back to the condo. We loved sitting on the deck just watching all the wildlife wandering through. We even had a bear pass by! The condo has everything you need and more. Everything is so comfortable and well thought out.

Grandfather Views | Hot Tub | Near Trails & Towns

DanielRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Gorgeous view of grandfather mountain! The space was cute and tidy and the backyard space was by far the highlight! Loved the fire pit area and the lounge chairs where you could just lay under trees and watch the mountain. The bathroom was small for 2 people and the shower grout looked a little dirty. Other than that the stay was great and the location is awesome! We loved mountain dog coffee which is only ~5 minutes away!

Your guide to Sugar Mountain

Introduction to Sugar Mountain

Ski destinations in the American South are few and far between, thanks to mild climate and lower elevations, which is why Sugar Mountain is a diamond in the rough, pulling ski enthusiasts from surrounding states to its powdery slopes each winter. Perched high in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Sugar Mountain’s 21 trails are aimed mostly at beginners and intermediates and offer fun add-ons such as night skiing. The entire mountain is equipped with snow-making capabilities, meaning that even in warmer winters with little snowfall, you’ll still find freshly groomed runs. Sugar Mountain has more than just skiing and snowboarding, though. It’s also home to a 10,000-square-foot outdoor ice skating rink and a six-lane tubing park. The same terrain that makes Sugar Mountain a hit in winter months becomes a wonderland for adrenaline junkies who head for the trails by foot or bike when the snow melts.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Sugar Mountain

A rare four-seasons destination, Sugar Mountain is best known for its skiing and snowboarding in winter months, making that season the most popular for booking one of the area’s cabins. But if you visit during summer, expect extremely pleasant temperatures: it’s not too hot, thanks to the 5,300-foot altitude, and there’s a plethora of hiking and mountain biking options. Fall can be mild and alive with color, with peak foliage in the Blue Ridge Mountains usually hitting in October. Christmas season is the busiest time on the slopes, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents’ Day weekends attract big crowds as well. Fourth of July features the Summit Crawl, a competitive foot race to the top of the mountain, while Sugar Mountain turns into Little Bavaria for the weekend-long Oktoberfest.

Top things to do in Sugar Mountain

Grandfather Mountain

In nearby Linville, Grandfather Mountain looms large as one of the tallest peaks in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It’s also dotted with hiking trails — but just keep your eyes peeled for black bears, cougars, elk, and other wild animals with whom you may share the path. If you really want to get your heart pumping, walk across the Mile High Swinging Bridge for epic 360-degree views.

Linville Falls

This area of the Blue Ridge is peppered with waterfalls, like Crab Orchard, Elk River, and Otter, but perhaps the best-known is Linville Falls at Milepost 316.4 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Take your pick of trails that will lead you past lookouts along the way, as well as loop you to the top of the impressive 90-foot waterfall.

Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster

The mountain range’s first alpine coaster will test your wits (and your stomach) as you zip around loops on carts at 27 miles per hour.
