  • The place was very nice and there were many amenities that made it feel like a complete home. Responses from Matt were always fairly quick and courteous and they were very accommodating to different circumstances. Definitely great for a longer stay and not too out of the way from the city. Overall wonderful!

This is NOT your average place. :-) Somewhere between a resort and camping, Lost River Hostel is a nonprofit arts and cultural center located on a 16+ acre hillside in West Baden Springs. With the farmhouse on a hillside and the guesthouse in the forest, the hostel is a hub of conversation and inspiration. We offer a free dinner just after our nightly gratitude circle and also ask that our guests help with a simple chore in the morning to help contribute to the well being of Lost River.
There are wonderful places in this world that inspire us such as mountains, cathedrals, forests, fields, caves, and the sea. People inspire us too. Those who teach, who lead by example, who create, who perform, who follow their passions, and who radiate kindness. Those people that give you the sense of “if they can do it, so can I!” The Lost River Hostel blends both of these things; striving to build and maintain an extraordinary space fueled by a constant cycle of generosity and creativity. We hope everyone who stays here will go back into the world refreshed and rejuvenated – wanting to be better people and do great things. While there is no central religious belief system of those who live/work at the hostel, we do believe in making the world a better place and constantly learning new things as we go by providing a distraction-free, reflective space. In greater efforts to do this, we will also be hosting workshops and events related to music, writing, yoga, organic gardening, cooking, and environmental sustainability.
The joined towns of West Baden and French Lick are a beautiful little tourist spot located 3 minutes from the hostel. There you will find: West Baden Springs Hotel and Gardens / The cute downtown of French Lick / Paoli Peaks Skiing / Hoosier National Forest / The Shirley Creek Trail / French Lick Winery & Restaurant / Wilstem Ranch/Zip Lines / Indoor Karting / Big Splash Indoor Water Park / French Lick Casino
  • We didn't quite know what we were getting into and just wanted to leave the city for a little. This wonderfully hippie treehouse, green space was great. We loved the community aspect and space. From the compost toilets, to the muddy walk to and fro the cabin to the main house, to community dinner each night. I recommend this stay for longer than one night and in the warmer, dry seasons. We lucked out with unusually warmer but rainy weather. If you are looking to feel welcomed and appreciate and are a social being, I recommend. We look forward to bringing our families in the future and maybe some interaction with the free range chickens and that clay lagoon.

  • These people have become family in our brief 2 day work visit. What started as a cheaper hotel alternative became a wonderfully therapeutic haven of peace on the road. Thanks to everyone who works there!

  • WOW! I was blown away by my stay at the Lost River Hostel. This stay will put you in the woods of Indiana, and for a very reasonable list price you’ll have access to daily homemade dinners, outdoor showers/bathtub, walking paths, a swimming hole, and connections with some truly incredible people. I arrived during dinner on my first night and was immediately greeted in the main house by Alex, the hostel’s current manager. The cooks that night had kindly accommodated my request for a vegetarian option (and it was absolutely DELICIOUS). After dinner I was given a tour of the beautiful property, followed by a dip in the pond and hanging around the bonfire with the other guests and staff members. The following day, the staff had organized a trip to explore a nearby cave, but I instead decided on some self-care time walking the trails of the grounds and bathing in the outdoor bathtub; glorious and restorative moments beneath the cover of the forest. Later in the day I had another dinner with the guests / staff and made more connections around the bonfire, connecting over our lived experiences, favorite books, passions, etc. Everyone was incredibly kind and open. This is not your typical Airbnb experience. Come with the expectation of meeting others and breathing in the fresh air around you. Come knowing that the best place to be is in the common spaces, not in the confines of the basic rooms. Come with a spirit of cooperation and openness to others. This place is a DREAM - do not hesitate to book this living experience!

  • The place was completely in the nature, and they offered us dinner that was soo good..we hope to see them again:)

  • Cozy little gem in the peaceful woods. Amazing hospitality (invited to eat dinner with staff and other travelers), unique accommodations(swimming hole, outdoor shower, compostable toilets), and fun art drawn on inside walls of rooms.

  • Lost River Hostel is truly a magical gem in southern Indiana. It is a space that promotes healing, connects like-minded people and allows for retreat in nature. There are no strangers when you’re at the hostel and that’s one thing that I love the most. 😊

    Kara2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • The Hostel is a magical place. Scott and the community here are really building something special and it was an honor to be a guest to be included in their world. It really does seem to be a place based on trust, empathy, and love of voluntary simplicity. We stayed in the winter cabin and Scott very kindly gave us access to the adjacent bedroom, which my daughter loved. We got to explore at sunrise and watch the world quietly stretch awake and there was coffee waiting in the main house. Lost River is truly a great place to reconnect and disconnect and we we’re fortunate to have found it.

  • If you do not like the outdoors this is not the place for you. This place is great at an amazing price. Very chill and good vibes. Scott was very accommodating and easy going. Very satisfied with this experience.

My place is close to French Lick Villas are within a short 15 min walk to down town French Lick, boasting multiple restaurants, shops, and even a museum. Also a 15 min walk to the famous French Lick Resort and Casino. . You’ll love my place because of the cozy space, with a secluded feel, but close to town.. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids).
This is a cozy one bedroom upstairs unit in a 2 unit villa. I use the downstairs unit during this week long period. There is a TV in the bedroom and a TV in the common area. There is no HDMI cables on the TVs, but there is wifi if you want to bring your own electronics. There is a jetted hot tub in the bedroom and a shower in the bathroom. Also a front deck and a private back deck in the bedroom. A washer/dryer is shared in the villa. Guests also receive cards to access the French Lick Springs Resort. You can use the indoor/outdoor pools. Guests also get 10% off selected activities in the hotel. The adjacent hotel offers 3 golf courses, bowling alley and game room, several restaurants, gym, spa, and casino. The town is a 15 min walk, and offers many restaurants and bars. The local festival is during this rental period as well. I love this place and hope you will too
This unit is a short walk, up a steep hill, nestled in a wooded area. Deer and wildlife are abundant in these woods. The area is very close to the local 400 room hotel and casino, and to the town at the bottom of the hill.

Located high on a hill overlooking the historic French Lick Resort and Spa. Charming Craftsman style home, walking distance to the hotel, casino, and downtown French Lick restaurants and shopping. Short drive to Patoka Lake. Well behaved, furry friends welcome.* (see 'other notes' for details)
You can sit on the front porch swing and enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. Then you can walk downtown and check out the unique shops. Walk over to explore the French Lick Hotel. Visit the Casino. Then take the trolley to West Baden and enjoy the beauty of the gardens and the dome. Have a nice dinner in any number of restaurants in French Lick. At the end of the day, enjoy sitting on the back deck and relaxing. A great place to enjoy your visit to French Lick!
This home is located in a safe and quiet neighborhood. It is on a steep hill. If you walk down to the bottom of the hill, you are in the town of French Lick.
  • Julia and the house were both wonderful. This a very unique time. She offered to waive the fees and cancellations she could if we decided not to go (AirBnB is now back doing that). We were on the ropes about it due to CoVID but after she assured me that no one had been in the house for a few days we decided to drive there for a change of scenery. The house is delightful and both my husband and me as well as our dogs were very comfortable. The only thing I could wish for (I say this to all dog friendly properties) is a fenced in grass area to let them out at night or early in the morning); however with the challenging landscape of hills that would make it tiny in the front or from the back downstairs. Since I am five feet tall I vote for back basement stairs as my head does not have to worry about ducking:) With that being said there is a deck off of the kitchen that you can hang out on without your dogs getting out (it was just cold and rainy). Now that I have let my crazy dog mom wishes go, seriously, you can't ask for a more communicative or friendly host. The special touches are incredible between the fireplace, the local books, tips and menus, the local wine or the hidden fun like the secret bookcase door (find it). We hope to be back when things aren't quite so crazy and a bit warmer. Until then, if during the next few weeks or months (or anytime) and you are within driving distance and just want a change of scenery, this single family, spotlessly clean home may be your way to cure the stir crazies:)

  • This place is wonderful to stay at. Everything is clean, comfortable, and clearly communicated. She makes sure basic daily necessities are taken care of (hair dryer, coffee, cooking spray, wine openers, etc). It is close walking distance to quite a few places to shop and eat, and you can easily walk to the French Lick hotel, where a free trolley can take you to the other part of town. We loved everything about our stay!

  • Julia’s home was beautiful! It was very clean when we arrived and is in a nice neighborhood. There was even a list of recommendations of places to go in the area. Julia was quick with responding with any questions we had. Anytime I messaged her I always got a reply within 10 minutes. Would definitely recommend this beautiful home!

  • Great place for a family to stay. Clean, comfortable and near to all of your French Lick activities. We especially enjoyed the fooseball table and playing board games of an evening by the fire.

  • It’s a wonderfully transformative place full of good company and lots of laughs! I will miss this place until I’m back again!

    Montana2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I came to the Lost River Hostel needing a cheap place to stay for a business trip, but left with many new friendships and a renewed thirst for life. The main house is oozing with character, and the downstairs living area fosters connection between people of all backgrounds. It was cold and rainy for much of my stay, but I still enjoyed hiking the property and having a much-needed detox from the stressors of the outside world. I cannot recommend this place enough if you are at a point in your life where you need some peace and quiet to think, to meet new open-minded people, or to reevaluate your direction in life. I can say with certainty, I'm better off having stayed here.

  • This is a well thought-out and unique place to stay.

    Nancy2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • The place is just as it is described. Not your typical stay but so much fun and lots of unique features. It is camping with an air conditioned private room with a bed! The staff was super friendly and we got to meet new people from very different walks of life! Wish we had more time to spend with the staff. They were a very neat group of guys! Overall the experience was very unique and would love to return when we have more time to enjoy all it has to offer!

  • This was my second stay at Lost River Hostel. As always, the kindness of the staff & beauty of the location are outstanding. Thank you, Scott & staff, for a relaxing time 'away from it all'.

  • The Gray House greatly exceeded our expectations! We really needed a weekend away for some quality family time and the setup of the house was just perfect for this. Nice open concept in kitchen, dining area and living room area allowed for kids to play board games while we cooked and could still interact with the them. Amazingly well stocked coffee and hot chocolate bar; two kinds of hot chocolate, several coffee options, several sweetener options, several creamer options, has keurig with pods and also the pod that allows you to use loose grounds with the keurig, to go coffee cups also provided. Many snacks and extras available, which my kids enjoyed. Even had fresh fruit there for us. Kitchen is very well stocked; there is even a crockpot available. The only thing I needed that I couldn't find was a whisk; I imagine not many people on vacation or a weekend getaway need a whisk. Everything in the kitchen works well. The sink is a little small and there is no dishwasher, so keep that in mind if you plan to do much cooking. There is also only one television and it is located in the downstairs media room. This was not an issue for my family, but could see how if you had very young kids wanting to watch cartoons and older kids or adults not wanting to, this might be something to consider so you could bring a laptop or tablet. The Wifi connection was amazing and we never had any service issues. Nice comfortable beds, plenty of nice pillow including extras we never needed; same with blankets. Also, plenty of nice towels; we were never in danger of running out. The lane back to the house is nice and long making the house secluded. We saw turkeys right outside the windows and several deer not far from the house. If there are night lights, I did not see or find them, so if this is something you need, pack a few. Entry into the home was easy. Shema was very helpful with information about questions I had regarding local activities. She also has a very quick response time. There are several fun family appropriate board games provided as well. Several books in one of the bedrooms also. Another nice touch was a bottle of water and two glasses in bedrooms. House was also very comfortable in terms of temperature; not at all drafty or cold. We had a great stay and would definitely consider staying again if we are ever back in that area.

  • This home is beautiful, comfortable and spacious! Our family had a great week here. The amenities were over the top! The location was central to our intended destinations. The layout was perfect for a family with teens, outdoor exploring, tv room and balconies. We hope to return next year.

    Melissa2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great place to stay with friends. It was secluded but not to far from town! I would recommend staying here!

    Shelly2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We love Gray House, have probably stayed here six times since we began working in the area. Beautiful home, totally secluded, very generous amenities. Coffee station is tip top, kitchen has anything you need to cook, love having coffee on deck(when it's not freezing out!). Love that TV is in downstairs den so sound doesn't carry to bedrooms. Great value.

  • This place was so charming with a pleasant view of French Lick! Jessica went out of her way to make our stay very special! The parking was on a incline, so just a little unnerving, but we walked 10 mins to everything we wanted to...Ohana’s, Casino, American Legion. Totally enjoyed our 2 night stay, plenty to do, and very relaxing!! 😄

  • We had originally booked a smaller home but on our way down Christy contacted us & upgraded us to one of her larger homes that was even closer to downtown at no extra charge! The house was decorated so stylish. It was clean & had everything you needed, just had to show up! Will definitely plan on staying here again!

  • Very clean and fresh, comfortable beds, great front porch for hanging out and relaxing, the house is so roomy with lots of windows we couldn’t of picked a better stay! Location was just up the hill from everything.

  • Spectacular! My family with 3 young children stayed while visiting family in the area over the holidays and I’m so glad we did. The price was comparable to the hotels in the area but at an unbelievable value. We had so much space to stretch out and relax. The house had beautiful decor and modern amenities mixed with “old house” charm. There were so many thoughtful touches that made it feel like home and it was spotlessly clean from front to back—my compliments to the thoughtful host and housekeepers. We would absolutely stay again!

  • We just needed a place to crash for a wedding, but it turned into so much more! Ryan and Andrew have a great place, their fur babies are adorable and loving, and they both were so willing to have some great conversations late at night when the wedding ended WAY EARLIER than we thought haha. They were also very flexible and SUPER communicative late at night when they certainly weren't required to be. Great place to stay, would stay again 10/10!

    Jennifer2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Ryan was a great host. His home is very clean and I love his dogs. I wish I could have stayed longer, but my trip was purely business. I would definitely recommend.

Was able to walk pretty much anywhere we wanted to go downtown along with the French Lick Hotel and Casino. Would love to come back and explore the golfing options for a weekend and would book here again in a heartbeat!

  • Great little house for my family! Definitely within walking distance of almost everything and we had great weather for February. Very comfortable, plenty of towels and bedding, and James and Kathy were extra accommodating for us in our plans! Will definitely stay again when we come to French Lick. So much better than a hotel!

  • This home was located in the heart of French Lick and was complete with all the amenities. Beautiful home!!!

    Julia2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful cozy place. There is coffee available which made my day! My husband and I were the only occupants but the 2nd bedroom upstairs with a full bath makes this home a great place for 4 people to still have privacy. We hope to come back next year!

    Robin2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • I booked this for my mom and her best friend. They wanted to meet halfway between their homes (Cincinnati and St. Louis) and hang for a couple days. They raved about the house and their photos are adorable. It was perfect for them to chill and drink wine but they also loved that they could walk to restaurants and shops. They also drove out to the winery and enjoyed it. They’re already planning a trip back! Both my mom and myself communicated with Kathy and she’s so lovely. Definitely recommend staying!

    Stacie2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • My only go-to place when we are in French Lick. Never disappoints.

    Craig2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Location is perfect if you want to walk and explore the little downtown of French Lick or the French Lick Resort. Can take the train for free on to West Baden Hotel, which is a must. Public shuttle will also take you most places for free. But the location is also close enough if you don't feel like walking or waiting for your ride and just want to drive. Ample space, but cozy at the same time. Comfy beds, spacious kitchen, private patio with grill. Check-in and out was easy and Kathy communicated well.

    Brandie2019-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a hidden gem! It was so comfy and cute. As soon as we walked in, we were impressed. The space is definitely bigger than it looks on the listing! The kitchen was clean and had everything you could need. The living spaces were comfortable and perfect for a small group of friends! Sleeping arrangements were great, too. We will definitely be back!

  • The stay at the cabin was fantastic. The space was more than enough room, the security of the compound was a great added touch for some increased peace of mind. The location was just far enough out of the heart of Bloomington to provide a good deal of peace, while still being close enough to hop on over for meals! The room was very clean, and had everything we needed to thoroughly enjoy our stay.

Being able to reflect on life and spend time with loved ones without interruption is something I value highly in my life and this place delivered exactly that. We will definitely be back and stay here again later this year.

  • Really easy check in! Great place!

    Alison2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Overall, we found the house to be very charming and the location was quiet and beautiful. We found it to have a good amount of space for 6 adults, with one couple sleeping in the loft, which is open to the living room and kitchen below. Our only concern was that the floors throughout the home were very dirty and there was quite a bit of dust everywhere. Which is understandable due to its rustic location. However, I think with a good clean, this place could be amazing and I would stay again! The owner was very kind and accommodating throughout the booking process.

  • 100% one of the best Airbnb experiences I’ve had! This house was even better in person than the pictures. We stayed here for a wedding with a few other couples and there was so much space for everyone. Plenty of sleeping room and we even had plenty of space for 6 girls to get ready the morning of the wedding. Not only was there plenty of space but EVERYTHING in this house was comfortable. The couches, the beds and the over all feel. We really loved the special touch of fall all over the house and the extra amenities. It made our trip that much better. It was also very convenient to walk every where we needed to go. I would stay here every time I come to French Lick!

    Kristy2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay, you are withing walking distance from most social activities and even the neighbors are super friendly. I would definitely recommend them to my friends or family.

  • This little condo is perfect for a single or a couple just looking to get away for a little while. It truly is cozy and homey in the best ways with the smallest amenities that you didn’t even realize you needed. The security in place makes it feel safe, and Sharon’s response time to any questions or issues is impeccable. She even asked what kind of snacks I prefer & left pizza rolls-lol. There is a nice view where deer frequent and really do come when you call. Overall a really amazing cozy stay. I 100% would stay again and wholeheartedly recommend!

  • The Cozy Condo was a wonderful place to stay for when we wanted to visit Bloomington for the weekend. Very close to Lake Monroe. Not terribly far from the IU campus. Very comfortable with everything we needed in the kitchen and bathroom. Sharon is a wonderful host and goes out of her way to make the visit special. You feel close to nature with the wooded area behind the condos, but still close to civilization. We can’t wait to stay again. Thank you, Sharon!

  • You will not be disappointed for choosing to stay at Sharon's condo. This beautiful home was absolutely a lot more than we expected. When we arrived we notice how clean and warm the home felt. There was a welcome gift basket on the counter and chocolates on the most comfortable bed. Having the very private back patio overlooking the wooded nature area was very relaxing. The lake is just a few minutes (if that) walk from the front door. And the cable and Roku movie selection was definitely an added bonus. Not to mention how safe we felt being in a gated/guarded community with cameras watching over our vehicle was very comforting. Sharon truly is a perfect example of the Superhost definition. We will definitely come stay at her home again in the near future.

  • Great location and we loved the serenity of the porch, feeding deer, seeing turtles and all sorts of critters. Sharon does so many nice extra touches that makes you feel so welcome! Wonderful place to relax and attend a wedding!

  • Pleasant place to stay and close to the boat ramp. Well equipped for preparing meals as well. Very quite setting.

  • This cabin was stocked with everything we needed. It was very clean and very peaceful at the end of a dead end street. We (four adults, 2 kids and a baby) were quite comfortable in the cabin. The area is beautiful and Timothy was the kindest most helpful host. We brought plenty of board games and movies to play which was great on the days that we did not venture out because the cabin is about 30 minutes from anywhere.

    Krystalynn2019-09-02T00:00:00Z

Historic meets modern in this unique studio. Built in 1872, this one-room church turned Airbnb provides a one-of-a-kind experience. Love Exploring featured our studio as The Most Stunning Airbnb In Indiana. The entrance to Monroe Lake at Fairfax is literally steps away, and it’s only 11 miles from IU and downtown Bloomington. This space is the perfect resting place after a day on the water or visiting IU. The circular driveway provides pull-through parking for a boat. Spacious yard and fire pit.
The expansive studio will provide you with plenty of room to stretch out. The decor reflects the history of the church, with several of the original church pews and furniture pieces inside, as well as a collection of vintage camera equipment, as Brook previously used this as her photography studio. Cook a meal in the brand new kitchen with all of the bells and whistles, or just relax with TV and lighting-fast fiberoptic wireless internet. The kitchen includes all of the pots, pans, tableware and silverware you will need. There is a mixer, toaster, tea kettle, French press and traditional coffee maker. The bathroom was just added and features a beautiful tile shower. There is also a full sized washer/dryer for your convenience, as well as fire pit out back. We have also created a special house manual in which we provide our personal recommendations for our favorite restaurants, local attractions, hiking areas, etc. You can find this in the studio or we can send a pdf document with this information when you book, if you would like. The kitchen is stocked with coffee, tea, and various kitchen staples including spices, oil, salt/pepper, etc. if you plan to cook your own meals, although we highly recommend you try out one of Bloomington's famous eateries. Unlike a hotel, additional visitors to the home are not allowed. All visitors, even those who just come for lunch, etc, will be charged $25 each as extra guests and must be included in reservation. If you happen fall in love with the area or are looking to move here, let us know. Corey is a licensed real estate broker and would love to show you some places while you are here.
The entrance to Fairfax State Recreation Area at Lake Monroe is literally steps away from the building (entry fees apply). There is a restaurant and bar (Fairfax Inn) right next door, so you don't even have to drive to grab a quick bite or have a drink. There area also a golf course, 3 other restaurants and two other pubs within a mile walk or drive.
  • This old church building literally has it all. This is the most well-run airbnb I've stayed in to date. The space was so pleasant and pristinely clean and cared for. Lots of thoughtful touches and conveniences that constantly had me thinking, "oh, what a great idea to include that!" Loved the lake views, and the area is quaint and quiet. Really couldn't recommend these hosts and this space highly enough.

    Alec2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place was amazing, host was one of the best I’ve ever had the pleasure of dealing with and I stay with air bnb often, you won’t be disappointed

    Steven2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Charming and delightful. This was truly a ‘One of a Kind’ AirBNB. Experience! The space was Stylishly modern, while we structure (old Church) had so much original charm and character. We really enjoyed all of natural light, the cozy bed, the cleanliness and all the thoughtful touches. It was just a short drive into downtown Bloomington. I would definitely stay again and highly recommend Brooks place!

    Jacqueline2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely quick trip to Bloomington! Communication was easy and smooth. The place was super stylish, unique, and clean! It was awesome to read about the renovation and restoration journey of the building as well as the history of the church! Would definitely recommend and hope to stay again!

    Luke2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a beauty! A historic building fitted with the most modern decor. Fully equipped kitchen, like I would have my own. Small thoughtful touches that make everything so convenient, including the little entryway lamp over the keypad, in case you are checking it at night. Bathroom was bigger than we expected and the whole open space with the tall ceiling makes the place way more spacious than appears in the pictures. One of my most favorite AirBNBs rented so far! Its a little far out into the suburbs, you need to drive out a little to get to the main city hub and restaurants, but we are non complaining- we wanted seclusion and found it! Verizon reception was great there and the building wifi was strong too, so I could get some work done too.

    Madhuchhanda2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb looks BETTER than in the photos because the pics can't accurately capture the heights or spaciousness of this gorgeous place. Also, great acoustics! The kitchen is better equipped than any place I've ever stayed, a cooks dream! I will definitely be back in summer! The hosts get a gold star for all the immaculate and personal touches!

their is a shared fire pit with cabin 1. we have out side electric for charging batters for trolling motors
This 576 sq foot cabin ( witch includes a back porch) is in national forest. A few hundred yards from patoka lake. At the end of a black top road. Peace and quite are the norm. This is a 1 bedroom with a full kitchen, and full bath with a shower nice living room an eating area , plus a 8 ft by 16 feet screened porch.A few miles to little patoka boat ramp
  • This cabin was perfect for me, my husband, and our pups. A very clean and cozy place to stay!

    Katie2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • LOVED, LOVED, LOVED the cabin, the views, and Tim is a host extraordinaire!

    Karen2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Tim's cabin was perfect for our outdoor vacation. Tim will meet you in person to give you the keys and tell you about the area. His house is also right next door so you'll see him around the yard if you have any questions. The cabin is steps away from a quiet section of Patoka Lake. There is boat ramp a short drive away or it's easy to carry kayaks a short way to launch near the cabin. The cabin was clean and had very basic kitchen amenities (coffee pot, plans, paper towel) but plan on bringing everything else (oil, spices, tin foil, charcoal, Tupperware). The screened-in back porch was our favorite part of the cabin - it faced towards the lake (rather than the cabin next-door) and you could see the sunset over the trees. The cabin is a 30ish minute drive from a bunch of local outdoor attractions - Patoka Lake State Park, wineries, Hemlock Cliffs, Marengo cave, and boat rentals. As Tim warns, the cabin does not have wifi and the cell phone reception is very poor, so plan any excursions before you get there! Overall, we really enjoyed our visit!

    Mauri2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! The cabin is very clean and has everything we needed. We would stay here again. It is secluded and it takes some time to get to town. Bring DVDs because there are only a few channels, and cell service is spotty. It’s a good chance to unplug and relax.

    Samantha2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Loved loved loved!!! Great place to unwind and check out from technology. All you need is food toiletries fishing gear and minors everything is provided with amazing hosts. We plan to make it a yearly tradition

    Candice2019-08-01T00:00:00Z
  • Honestly this place is phenomenal especially with the price. Beginning to end Tim was a good host and put forth the extra steps to make things accomodating and comfortable for my friends for our trip. We were driving from out of state and ended up missing our ETA and got in late but Tim stayed up and waited for us. The cabin is very nicely furnished and perfect for anyone just needing a place to stay on a budget with a small group. The cabin has the basics and you'll really only need your toiletries and some food because you'll be pretty deep in the forest when you stay there. (Not a bad thing at all I must say) but like said before in a previous review be prepared to unplug and enjoy nature and companionship with the ones you are going on this trip with. It's a great experience. The cabin is comfortable and is enough space. And the area around is just beautiful. Cannot wait to come back and cannot recommend a better place to stay. And this is coming from someone who is city native. Tim is a great host and the cabin was a great place and I'll have memories of this trip years to come.

Enjoy Patoka lake in the Summer and Paoli peaks for some skiing in the Winter. Perfect area to relax with friends/family while enjoying the sites and sounds of nature.
  • The cabin is located a few miles up into a gravel road and is completely secluded. It has a small stream, fire pit, hot tub, and grill in the backyard. Inside it has two living areas, a complete kitchen, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a ping pong table. We spent more time at the Airbnb than we did in French Lick because it was so accommodating. • Staying at Randy's cabin was an amazing retreat. Having three bedrooms, and all the spaces you'd want in a home, plus the land outside, to stretch our feet out in, was amazing. It was a quiet place to stay and highly recommended. Randy was in contact with us immediately after a power outage affected the road and kept in contact until power was restored shortly.

Randy’s place is the perfect spot for our home away from home while spending time with our family. It is modern, yet rustic due to it’s location and surroundings. Randy is a fantastic host, and has gone above and beyond for us with our special requests. We absolutely recommend this home for your next stay! We will be back many more times.

Willow's bit of Heaven is part 1800's cabin with a 1940's rear addition. The cabin is in the city of Bedford and just 3 blocks from the center of town. The back yard is wooded and is fenced in for your pleasure. The front porch is opposite an abandoned RR.
This 1800's log cabin has been completely refurbished with new chinking and log renovation. Willow has adorned the living room with photos and mementos from her international travels. The "log room" has a trundle bed (two twins) and has antique dressers from Jimmy's family and there's even a small "Lincoln" bed for your small toddlers. The master bedroom has a queen size bed. We welcome your toddlers- be aware we have breakables within reach. Enjoy a campfire in our backyard fire pit or cookout on the grill.
The neighborhood is a little quirky. They'll love to spin a yarn with you if you're outside. You are just a few blocks from downtown Bedford. There is an idyllic 5 mile gravel Milwaukee Trail. Start at Lincoln & 10th (north) or at Wilson Park ( 19th St west) that is just 1 mile from the cabin. More info in the green bicycle notebook in the kitchen. The railroad across the street is abandoned, and the nearby church bells start ringing on the hour starting at 6am!
  • We love staying at Willow’s place!

    Angie2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • If you enjoy history and a place to stay that is quaint, this is for you. We returned this year , for our second visit. There are lots of books to read and a piano , if you play! Depending on the season, the huge backyard is a real bonus. Even off season, it is really pleasant and a nice space to enjoy. Willow also has a lot of local information if you don't know the area.

    Jane2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little cabin/older home in the town of Bedford. It was a great location for visiting state parks and other attractions in the area. Willow is an excellent host. She responded quickly to messages and provided lots of useful info and tips for our stay.

  • Absolutely loved our time! Beautiful log cabin and the decor adds to the atmosphere. Comfy living room made movie nights fun. Kitchen is outfitted with everything you need and the outdoor area is amazing with a fire pit. Plus local attractions everywhere. Great value for everything you can do in the area.

  • The cabin is great! Big backyard and cozy rooms. Stayed over Labor Day and the cabin stayed cool and comfortable at night. The kitchen had all the gadgets we needed to cook, with a separate dining room too. Lots of games, casting for Netflix, and cool decorations. The cabin is close in town to everything Bedford, and a short drive to Bloomington and the surrounding parks. There is a church just down the road with chimes on the hour, so just keep that in mind if you are a light sleeper. Great stay for families!

  • Love the spot. Plenty of space, but cozy at the same time. Great stay, especially for the price!

  • Willow's place was a nice getaway. I wanted to be close to Spring Mill, Lake Monroe and not have to deal with people on the trip after dealing with people without common sense all month. This was the place for that! She sends you a code to the door and in you go for peace and quite. A lot of beautiful hiking trails, caves, lakes and restaurants within 15 minutes away! The cabin is in town but you wouldn't know that once you are in the backyard. Clean and nicely decorated. Kitchen has everything you would need to cook anything.

  • You will enjoy this nice house in Bedford that is close to Bloomington and Spring Mill State Park. The house has a great backyard. The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. We enjoyed our stay here.

Come to beautiful southern Indiana and stay in our rustic cabin with all the comforts of home. Overlooks White River, close to Bedford, Bloomington, near Spring Mill Park & Bluespring Caverns. There is hiking nearby at Hoosier NF and Milwaukee Trail. Great home base if you are going to IU football game, French Lick or just want to get away for a relaxing weekend. Lots of golfing near by. Limestone bluff overlooks the White River 125 ft. below cabin porch. There is a patio plus two fire pits .
Authentic hand hewn log cabin built in 1920 with addition in 1960s. Sits on a beautiful wooded lot. There is a patio and two fire pits to enjoy a bonfire, we supply all the firewood needed. Sometimes you can see eagles flying up the river. Squirrels, deer, birds, and wild turkeys abound. Very peaceful place. There are two bedrooms, one queen bed and one small room with a double bed. There is a stocked kitchen with range, microwave, fridge, toaster, blender, coffee maker and coffee provided. If there is something extra you need we will try and accommodate. The living room has a large window facing the woods and river where you can enjoy a glass of wine or cup of coffee. Relax, read a book or watch the flat screen tv staying warm by the rustic gas fireplace. There is no wi-fi which is a plus for relaxation and connecting with your loved ones. There is cell phone reception. There is plenty of outdoor space with a swing in the yard and patio furniture right outside the door. Take a walk around the property or short hike down to the river. River Rock is only five minutes to Bedford with stores and restaurants available. Spring Mill State Park is about ten minutes away with lots of hiking options and other activities. Bloomington, home of IU, is a thirty minute drive. Bloomington has sporting events, music venues and excellent dining opportunities. Historic French Lick and West Baden resort are also nearby. Or just hang out at the cabin to read, play games, enjoy a fire and relax. There is also a gas grill on the patio.
Our cabin is in the woods and one quarter mile east off the road. It is only about 5 minutes from grocery and restaurants. There is a boat ramp 3/4 mile north of cabin.
  • This is a great cabin for a private getaway.

    Ashley2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin and property is amazing - truly a gem. We had a wonderful time in and outside the cabin. We actually loved that there was no wifi! It helped us detach from the world, enjoy creation and reconnect as a family. Though it was cold, we visited Spring Mills Park and were so happy we did! The rugged trails rewarded us with so many incredible surprises along the way. We hope to see it all again when the weather is a bit warmer and flowers are blooming.

    Christine2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • The perfect get away to unwind, relax and disconnect! The cabin had all the charm you expect of a 120 year old cabin, BUT the hosts, Mary and Jerry put so much thought into making their guests feel comfortable and taken care of. All the modern comforts and amenities of home! Five star!

    Deniece2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • I reserved a couple days for my parent and sister for a birthday weekend trip . They loved it . Said it was very cozy and close to everything they wanted to go too . They went to Paoli Peaks for skiing. Mary was very accommodating with checking in . I’d highly recommend this place !

    Melissa2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had an amazing couple of nights at Mary and Jerry’s cabin. Even though it rains, the space was exactly what we needed to reset and feel at peace again. The views are amazing! They went above and beyond to make us feel at home and we will definitely be back next year. Highly recommend this sacred space!

    Doressa2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was clean, warm, and the fireplace was great. There were nice touches and everything you could need for a stay.

    Chau-Ly2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great little, quiet place. It is an old log cabin, but it is extremely clean and cozy. It's just a beautiful little place that we love.

    Matthew2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to getaway with our young family. Kids had a blast looking at wildlife and by the fire. We enjoyed games that were provided by the hosts and relaxing mornings by the gas fireplace! Definitely a great experience!

  • Very nice people that own this can't wait to stay there myself. I booked the room for my elderly mom and aunt sort of by mistake (I did not read the accommodations well lol) they survived the night but have no plans to ever try a hostel again. With that said they were pleased with how nice Scott was to them. They knew they did not fit in haha but said it was clean and a neat place for the younger more adventurous people if the world. They were treated very well and said it was very clean. Thanks for taking extra great care of them and for the flashlight you brought to them to cross the grounds more safely at night. It was definitely an adventure for them 😆

  • Lost River Hostel is a really great place. We spent a relaxing day by the clay lagoon, and enjoyed a delicious meal with the entire hostel that evening. Afterwards, we sat by the fire and enjoyed some really nice folk music. We will be back!

  • As a former host I am typically in the habit of leaving short reviews But for the lost river hostel it deserves a longer praise! It was seriously one of the coolest places I have ever stayed. Scott was super friendly and helpful. He fixed a delicious dinner. I enjoyed a rooftop bath under the stars And a bike ride through the beautiful countryside. We will definitely be coming back and I would recommend this place to anyone

  • Lost River Hostel is a wonderful and unique experience! The host and members of the hostel are fantastic, so warm and welcoming. The property is beautiful! You won't find a prettier spot, located on the edge of a National Forest and just down the road from two historic resort hotels in the quaint towns of West Baden - French Lick. If you read the description of the property, it's very accurate. This is a communal style hostel experience on the edge of beautiful woods and river, with a spring fed swimming hole, free-range chickens happily roaming the yard, and a beautiful old farm home full of exceptionally cool people, a warm meal, and lots of music if you're lucky enough be there at the right time! The rooms are uniquely designed, charming, comfortable, and very clean. And you can't beat the price for a room and a meal. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at LRH and will be coming back!
