The Joshua Tree House is a two bed two bath 1949 hacienda located 10 minutes from the west entrance of Joshua Tree National Park in Joshua Tree, CA. This is a place for dreamers to reset, reflect, and create. Designed with a 'slow' pace in mind, our hope is that you enjoy every part of your stay; from making local coffee by drip in the morning, choosing the perfect record to put on as the sun sets, or by relaxing in the hot tub surrounded by over 100 Joshua Trees and a starry night sky.
This house is very close to downtown Joshua Tree with many shops and restaurants about a 10 minute walk from the house. This also means that some sound from the highway can be heard. If you're looking for a completely silent desert experience, we would recommend our other property: The Joshua Tree Casita (https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/10614974). Please also check that listing if you can't find the dates you're looking for. Welcome to the Joshua Tree House! This hacienda was built in 1949. With over 100 Joshua Trees on the property, the views from the house are magical. If you're up for it, sunrise on the front porch is incredible. We estimate that some of the larger Joshua Trees on the property are as old as our country! *Mattresses and Bedding by Casper* There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms in the house, and works well for a group of friends, two couples, or small families. We can also set up an extra memory foam mattress in the hammock room (has privacy with pocket sliding doors) to accommodate groups of six.
Joshua Tree is a small community made up of musicians, artists, and explorers. In the village you will find locally owned and run restaurants, art galleries, music venues, and vintage shops. There are many wonderful places to visit during your stay at the house including the Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy & Harriet's, the Integratron, Salvation Mountain, the Salton Sea, Noah Purifoy Outdoor Museum, Crossroads, BKB Ceramics, and la Copine (a delicious new french restaurant in the desert).
  • Absolutely gorgeous house down to every detail. It was super clean and cozy. The bed was very comfortable. Seemed even nicer than the posting in real life! We will definitely be coming back.

  • The Joshua Tree House was a beautiful, meditative sanctuary in the desert! My friends and I had a great time just hanging out on the porch watching the sunrise, prepping meals together, and watching the stars from the hot tub. The coffee was delicious and the sound system was great. It’s very close to many shops and restaurants. We all want to come back!

  • Sara & Rich's place is the perfect place for a desert getaway. It provides an awesome setting, perfect in every way. Very close to great places to shop, eat and explore.

  • I had the best time here with my husband and 3 year old. We felt right at home in this gorgeous house and used all it had to offer. Naps in the hammock, made a fire at night, cooked every day, hot tub at night, views, sunshine, record player, lovely backyard... we will be back. It was such a treat.

  • Wow. There aren’t good enough words to explain the magical stay we had at this incredible home. It will exceed every expectation you can have. The star gazing in the hot tub, the beds, the decor, every bit of this entire experience was beautiful. This is not just a place to stay but a work of art to enjoy. So worth every penny.

    Sara2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute dream. Perfect stay in every way for a girls weekend away. We enjoyed the hot tub, the rooms were sparkling clean and the beds were truly comfy as can be. Such a joy to relax in such a perfectly styled home on a lovely Joshua Tree lot, close to everything. Outstanding!

  • A stunning desert home that provides a truly unique gateway into Joshua Tree National Park. Highly responsive hosts take care of any concerns with speed and care. A nourishing atmosphere for anyone in need of quiet, calm, and natural beauty.

  • Can’t wait to come back and spend more time at The Joshua Tree House. It’s in a convenient location with fantastic amenities and on-point decor. Check in was super easy, fast response from Geneva and the house had everything we needed. Thank you, Rich and Sarah for sharing your home with us!

March 15, 29 - April 1st now open. There has been a lot of concern about the Covid-19 virus. We are now sterilizing the hard surfaces in our listings. We are quite isolated here so your exposure risks are much lower than in a city. If you have been exposed to it, please don't make a reservation. We have been listing the Mushroom Dome Cabin with airbnb since July '09 and have had the most reservations of any of their listings - in the world. We have had over 5,000 guests from over 50 countries.
As we are no longer allowed by Santa Cruz county to rent the Mushroom Dome Cabin, we are now listing the LAND of Paradise Suite, a room in our unique home. (LAND: Love And Nature Divine) Make a reservation for the Suite, you will also have unlimited access to the Mushroom Dome.We have 10 acres next to land without fences so you will get to enjoy nature: just hang out on the deck, take a hike in the woods, watch the hummingbirds on our deck, pet the goats, go to the beach or gaze at the stars - as long as the moon isn't full. ; - ) During the summer, if there isn't any nightly fog, we can see the Milky Way here. To check our availability, click on the "Request to Book" link. And yes, if it isn't available, it is already booked! If you want to stay here on a weekend, you will usually need to make your reservation request about 6-11 months in advance. We have another listing: the Hummingbird Haven. It usually has more availability. You can find it here: airbnb.com/rooms/6562632 (Please read all of this description before making a reservation request.) The cozy and clean semi-rustic retreat space has a loft under a geodesic dome (the "mushroom cap"). In the loft is a Queen-sized super popular Casper Mattress which allows for very comfortable meditation and/or sleeping and just hanging out. We provide clean sheets and pillow cases. Plenty of blankets are also provided. In the LAND of Paradise Suite, is a double bed as well as a fold out bed, a small fridge, an electric tea kettle, teas, and coffee. Let me know if you want to cook meals here and I'll tell you how. The other "bed" is a couch that we can make up into a bed. If there are going to be 2 of you, but you want separate beds, please make the reservation for 3 or let me know ahead of time - there is a $10. charge for using it as a bed. On the main floor of the Meditation Mushroom retreat (a Pentagon) is the couch a pull-out table and 2 chairs. We provide a small refrigerator, a Hot Air Popcorn Popper (and the kernels), French Coffee Press, an Electric Water Kettle, a wine opener, dishes - and more. We have 2 tables where you can enjoy meals, games, etc.: 1 inside and 1 outside on the large deck that faces the redwoods. We also have a barbecue grill on the deck with an extra gas burner on the side. We provide Organic Coffee, teas, Oatmeal, popcorn, butter, honey, sugar, nutritional yeast (for the popcorn!) spices, oil and vinegar and various snacks. Our well water is treated by an ozonator, a UV light and a soft water filter. If you have a baby and you won't be needing the second bed, make your reservation for 2 and let us know if you will need a small pad for the loft. Again, if there are 2 of you but you want to use the second bed, please make your reservation for 3. The cute bathroom has a Travertine shower, custom tiled sink and a Natures Head self-contained composting toilet. Some guests have had a problem with our bathroom, so I want to make it clear that we have a curtain for the door to the bathroom and we require that you put your used toilet paper in the trash. (it won't smell) If you follow the instructions for how to use the toilet, it won't have any odor. If you stay here for more than 1 night, you may need to change the pee bucket. We will do it for you if you want, but we do need you to pay attention to the pee level so it doesn't overflow! If the thought of using a composting toilet grosses you out, then don't make a reservation here. ; - ) We provide towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, a hair blow-dryer, etc. (a word of caution: the bathroom has a low ceiling. If you are over 6' you may have to do a little ducking here and there.) As Saturdays are very much in demand, (and we like to be free on Saturdays), we require a minimum 2 day stay on the weekends: Friday to Sunday. On 3 day holidays, we require a 3 day reservation. (This includes Presidents Day, Memorial Day, M. L. King day, and Labor Day.) But to stay here on a weekend, you will usually have to book the cabin 6 - 8 months in advance - unless you are lucky to find a cancellation! Check-in time is between 4 and 10pm. If you want to come sooner or later, this can sometimes be arranged. Check-out time is noon. As we have experienced some damage from guests, we are now requiring a $100. security deposit. Although it feels very isolated here, we are less than 10 minutes to Aptos Village where you will find stores, New Leaf (a very large natural food store), restaurants, a health food store, Safeway, etc. We are centrally located on the Monterey Bay: 10 minutes from the beach (Rio Del Mar and Seacliff State Beach) as well as the 10,000 acre Forest Nisene Marks State Park for miles of hiking or dirt biking in the Redwoods and along Aptos creek. We are 20 minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, 25 min. to the Beach Boardwalk, 45 minutes to Monterey and the world-famous Monterey Bay Aquarium, 50 min. to Carmel and 1 1/2 hours to Big Sur going south and San Francisco to the North. Yup, we are located in one of the most beautiful areas of California. (these times are not during rush hour(s) ; - ) If you love hummingbirds, bring your camera. Our garden is the year-round home to many Anna Hummingbirds. (We usually have about 300 - 600 year-round) During the summer, we are also called home by many Rufus and Allen Hummers as well. So you have got to see our "Hummingbird Airport" where we feed them about 130 oz. of syrup on a summer day! Please, no smoking or vaping in the cabin or on the property. We used to let smokers stay here, but they stink up the cabin and it is a fire hazard outside. Some cell phones don't work here, but since we have free wifi in the cabin, if your phone works with a wifi network, you are good to call. You can sometimes get Verizon service on the swinging seat by the driveway. To learn about things to do in the area, do an internet search for Santa Cruz, CA. Dogs are welcome to stay here but with a few requirements: since we have so many animals, we require that your dogs be kept on a leash when outside (the goats get very nervous with large loose dogs). Also, we don't allow dogs in the loft or on the couch downstairs so please bring a doggie bed. (your doggie can go on the couch if you bring a cover for it) If that is difficult, let us know and we will provide a doggie pillow. We have a gate that we can set up so your dog can be off the leash on the deck. If you are bringing a small child, we can put a folding futon (2/3rds of the futon or a foam pad next to the bed ) Just let us know ahead of time. Keep in mind, though, that a child should not be left in the loft by themselves as the bed is fairly high up against the rail. As we are about 3 miles to the nearest bus stop, it is pretty difficult to stay here without a car. You are invited, if you feel you would be harmonious here. Pet the goats, check out our chickens, cats, miniature dog and enjoy the very fresh air. If you come here when there is no moonlight and the sky is clear, you will see lots of stars. Tired of the heat in the summer? Since we are on the edge of the "fog belt", it can be both sunny and cool here. If you want a noisy place, you won't like it here: most of the sound here comes from the birds or crickets chirping, the tree frogs croaking and the breeze blowing through the trees. People do live on the land here though, so don't expect it to be totally devoid of human sounds and the occasional chain saw. : ) (We feed the goats oak branches)
Even though we live only a 8 minute drive to Aptos village and the beaches, it feels very remote and private here. It is usually very quiet at night - sometimes we can hear the ocean waves crashing on the beach. There is lots of land to hike on and explore here as well. We have 8 people living here in a rather loose community.
  • Magical place, closer to Capitola and to great beaches! The mushroom dome is unique, very comfortable and Kitty is a sweetheart. Her dog Elliot is also a formidable companion :) The place invites you to disconnect, enjoy nature, cook, rest. It was the perfect setting to celebrate my partner’s birthday!

    Alisson2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty gave clear directions on how to get to the cabin and even personally met us at the driveway so we could get to know our hostess which was so nice. We were a little put off by the idea of a compostable toilet but after experiencing one and how clean and easy it seemed to maintain we're looking into replacing our standard toilet for a compostable one as well! Her cat milo was so friendly, although I'm allergic I couldn't help but show some love...and take some claritin! The landscaping was breathtaking throughout. Can't wait to come back with a book or two to read and enjoy in the garden. Kitty has a rulebook put together which some may find daunting...but if you read through the rules are pretty common sense. We loved her sense of humor and are looking forward to booking again soon.

    Heidi2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was by far one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever encountered. Such a serene and beautiful environment. Kitty and Michael are incredible hosts and made us feel extremely welcome.

    Kitzia2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very great hosts and Kitty will take the extra time to welcome you and provide a little history about the place. The environment is serene and relaxing especially sitting on the deck drinking coffee and or having breakfast.

    Nada2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Kitty and Michael are gracious, kind-hearted super hosts. You will fall in love with the Mushroom Dome; my two friends and I felt at-home very quickly. The location is beautiful, the hosts are absolutely lovely, and the place itself is breathtaking. The bed upstairs is super comfortable and the shower is pleasant as well, with water that warms up right away. The Mushroom Dome is incredibly charming, and hearing about it’s history from Kitty adds another element of awe to your experience. This was my friends’ and I first AriBnB experience, and we feel so lucky to have chosen such a perfect place. None of us stumbled across any issues with our stay, and our entire trip was smooth and enjoyable. If you find dates that work for you, I urge you to book, I can’t imagine anyone regretting this stay!

  • Even if you expect it to be perfect, Kitty & Michael will give your time a chance to expand your concept of perfection

This inspired dwelling nestled right into the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge mountainside. Reverently framed by the iconic round doorway, the wondrous views will entrance your imagination and inspire an unforgettable journey. Every nook of this little habitation will warm your sole, every cranny will charm your expedition of repose. Up the pathway, tucked into the earth, an unbelievable adventure awaits!
The majority of your neighbors will be deer, rabbits, birds & grouse. It's 2 miles up the mountain and although there are houses it gets more remote the closer you get to the hobbit hole.
  • We had an incredible stay at the Hobbit House. We struggled a bit to find the exact location due to GPS complications, and once we found it, it was a bit of a challenge to get ourselves and our belongings up to the structure (including a cooler). However, our host clearly recommended the use of the yak tracks as there was still some ice up the walk way. Just know that if you visit during the winter months, your agility is something to consider. Once we made it inside, the generator was easy to use, and plenty of gas was provided. It took a bit to warm up the house, but we were comfortable all evening long. We enjoyed the sweet treats left by our host, to include cookies, a scone, coffee, tea, and cocoa with an electric kettle. The view was extraordinary, though we didn’t explore much outside due to the weather (wind). It was a darling place to stay - very romantic with quite a few fantastical touches. It definitely felt true to Middle Earth and Kristie did a great job giving more than a nod to the Hobbit. We even read a few chapters from the book which was available to guests. The pictures on the listing are true to life, though they did not give justice to the beautiful view or level of privacy. We can see that it would be a real treat to visit in the summer months. It was a magical adventure that we will never forget.

    Courtney2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • aside from camping, I have never stayed anywhere with a view that amazing! 100% on 4x4 vehicle for the road and use of the yaktrax provided for the walk up. brought our own campstove to cook food (outside) and fulfilled all our Hobbit dreams. Unforgettable getaway!

    Charles2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The view is amazing. The host was very responsive and gave us all of the information that we needed. We also loved the little wood working bench. It was a really cool touch. Highly recommended!!

    Matt2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Had a great night here. Such a fantastic location with great views from the porch, and of course the actual hobbit hole is so awesome! Would love to come back someday. Make sure you use the yaktrax to make the hike up to the house, it can be a little icy.

    John2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • When they say you need all wheel drive to get there in the winter... it is no joke, but so worth the extra effort! The views are out of this world! The craftsmanship of the details inside were just stunning. Kristie was a great and helpful communicator leading up to and during our stay!

    Alyssa2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is as good as it looks, and there's a reason it's booked out months in advance. We had a great time here.

The Off-grid itHouse brings together raw industrial aesthetics with the tactics of green design to forge a new home in the sunbaked wilds of the California high desert.
The Off-grid itHouse is an architecturally significant house, recently noted by Dwell as one of the 'Best Homes in America' and in the Los Angeles Times as one of the best houses of all time in Southern California. The Off-grid itHouse is one of 10 IT Houses built in California, which have received much acclaim such as the Western Home award sponsored by Sunset magazine. Also noted as one of the top 10 airbnb rentals worldwide. This is the prototype for the pre-engineered system known as the IT House. The house is 100% off-grid, powered by solar panels for energy and hot water, and is located in a pristine remote valley in the beautiful California high desert. The house observes key green principals of smaller footprint, minimal disturbance to the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, use of renewable resources, and living simply and minimally. The setting of the house is remote and serene, a quiet refuge from everything, free from distractions. Amazing views and vistas in all directions. Perfect for design or green aficionados, writers or those needing a secluded quiet getaway.
Located in Pioneertown, CA, nearby several unique attractions, Joshua Tree National Park, Pappy and Harriets Pioneertown Palace, local museums and art venues such as the Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum, the Integratron, and other seasonal events.

    Silvia2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Unlike any other Airbnb listing you'll find. If you crave calm and relaxation, this is the perfect place. I finished an entire book and a 1000 piece puzzle during my 2-night stay. The unobstructed dessert views transform any activity into pure magic. Come here to slow down and completely unplug.

    Karen2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Linda's home is an incredible home. Watching the sun rise over the high desert is a once in a lifetime experience. Living off grid is something we all must try to help us check our living habits. Highly recommend this Air BnB.

    Jeff2019-12-24T00:00:00Z
  • The place is simply amazing, the setting is private and the views of the desert and the mountains beyond are uninterrupted. The house is an architectural gem with all the basic necessities. Stayed there for 4 nights, and will definitely come back.

    Alex2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • There is something to be said about Linda’s home and the way it pulls in the beauty of the desert into every room of the house. It is as if the outside is some how inside. It is extremely special. The off grid feature is still very secure with the certainty of water, electricity and wifi. Linda has been extremely easy and quick with her communication, before and during my trip. (Thanks Linda!) I recommend staying here as long as you possibly can. I also recommend food shopping before arriving at the house. You will not regret buying firewood while you’re at it. It can get pretty cold inside in the winter. There is a Vons on 29 Palms. I think that’s the closest super market. It will take you around 20 minutes to get there from the house.

    Marika2019-11-21T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect getaway weekend from Los Angeles! House is exactly as described in photos. A few tips for packing if you book this trip: - Firewood and matches (indoor fireplace was highlight of our stay) - Water or Brita (no filtration in the house) - Warm and cool clothes (temperatures swing greatly)

Charming and romantic,' Round' Cottage on the Santarella Estate in the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts. Formerly, the cottage was sculptor Henry Hudson Kitson's summer studio on the Santarella Estate. The two-story cottage has a charming bedroom with 35 foot high conical ceiling with canopied bed upstairs with views through massive, multi-paned "mill windows" to the trees and sky and out to the lily pond. The downstairs sitting room looks out on the babbling brook and lovely gardens.
Now open year-round! Charming, One Bedroom Cottage, former sculpting studio on the Santarella Estate in Tyringham, MA. Known as the "Silo Studio" Cottage. There is a bedroom with canopied queen bed upstairs and a sitting room with window bench-seat, coffee table, table and chairs, kitchenette area with wet bar with Micro/Fridge coffeemaker, toaster and bathroom with shower are downstairs. Fall asleep to sounds of the babbling brook and views to pond and forest from the large screened openings upstairs, like living in a "tree-house". Accommodates two only, fully furnished, all linens, towels included. There is Satellite DTV and Wireless Internet on site. The cottage is situated on four acres including lovely gardens, beautiful lily pond, running brooks and 2 acre woods. Absolutely unique, one-of-a-kind experience! Please Note, the cottage has traditionally been a three season rental from approximately March- November, however, due to much interest and demand, we have recently added a larger capacity pellet stove and made winterizing efforts and plan on keeping it open for guests interested in a winter experience in the cottage! Please keep in mind that access to our grounds may be limited with the accumulation of snow in winter months. During predicted extreme weather events, we will gladly work with guests to change reservations as we are always concerned for their comfort! Our lovely grounds are open to our guests. There are garden paths, babbling brook with stone bridges, loveliest of lily ponds, stone bench seating area with 'chiminea' and firewood for guest's use. There are two acres of woods with a loop trail as well. The town has an exceptionally beautiful Swimming Pond about 2 miles away which our guests may use. There are BBQs and picnic tables and it is often deserted. While we do not allow pets, we will consider requests to allow 1 small pet with prior approval and acceptance of rules and policies. The cottage is located on the Santarella Estate surrounded by gardens and storybook architecture. Santarella is located in the Tyringham Valley, tucked away 3.5 miles from Mass. I-90, a lovely and magical place where one feels like they have stepped back in time. This is definitely a place to 'get away from it all', enjoy quiet, rural surroundings close to the Appalachian Trail and Tyringham Cobble for hiking and many lovely ponds for swimming or kayaking. Vehicle is necessary. Grocery and other shopping at 3.5 miles.
Tyringham Valley was one of the original settlements in Western Massachusetts. It is mostly agricultural conserved land giving it a very rural, bucolic and idyllic character. The lovely 'Hop Brook' runs through the middle of the valley which is sparsely populated with mostly historic homes, making one feel like they have stepped back in time. An original, beautifully preserved Shaker settlement sits on top of the hillside opposite Santarella, overlooking it. At the far end of the valley, the gracious columns of the burned Ashintully mansion overlook the entire valley and are all that remain of the gilded-age estate which has beautiful preserved formal gardens, great to visit and hike. The Appalachian Trail is 2.25 miles from the cottage.

  • A lovely winter stay! The pellet stove kept us toasty warm. A truly unique place to stay with a great location. Peaceful, whimsical, cozy! Wonderful owners with great communication.

    Helene2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay here, and I concur with all of the other reviews––the space is magical, Denise is a very kind and accommodating host, and everything was smooth and easy. It was cold out, but the stove kept things toasty inside and we really enjoyed being tucked away in the silo. This is a special place.

    Andrew2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Denise and Dennis go above and beyond for their visitors, and the Silo Studio itself is like something out of a fairytale. It's in a fantastic location - surrounded by peaceful woods and a babbling brook, but still close enough to town so that you can have fun shopping and dining at the many places you'll be recommended.

    Cheryl2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • This place is one of a kind! You are truly transformed into a fairytale. If you want a unique, charming and unforgettable experience, stay here! We will be back.

  • Denise and her husband were great. Both of them were super friendly and helpful. You can tell how much time, energy, and love they put into the property. Would absolutely recommend staying there to anyone, and I'll likely go back!

Red cinder leads you through the dense jungle to your secluded bamboo treehouse. Nestled on top of stilts 15' up in the canopy of the local flora, ascend to your retreat via the trapdoor or begin your adventure in Volcano National Park 10 miles away.
Upon arrival, let the red cinder path be your yellow brick road as you are lead through the jungle to your personal paradise. At ground level you will encounter a hanging bed, suspended beneath the floor of your new living quarters. Stop and relax or continue up the staircase to the trapdoor. It is through this trapdoor that you are allowed access to the lanai amongst the canopy of trees. A beautiful wrap around lanai allows for a 360 degree view of the lush jungle, while two sliding glass doors grant access to the bedroom. Upon entering, you will notice that the generous windows and doors allow for natural sunlight to flood into the house, complementing the bamboo fixtures and vintage 1970s wallpaper that backs the bed. The white bed linens reflect the light giving a dreamy, cloud-like aura to the space. There is counter stocked with a local coffee and snacks nestled into a corner of the house and overlooked by the handcrafted porthole windows. Bamboo backed cubby holes and hangers furnish the wall behind you and create an elegant, minimalist closet space for you to store your personal items for the duration of your stay. Just past the closet is a sliding door that accesses one of the most fun areas of the house: the bathroom. The bathroom jalousie windows stretch from the floor to the ceiling and the horizontal glass plates open up, creating an indoor-outdoor effect. Naturally caught rainwater cascades from the large shower head above before disappearing into the floor boards below. You'll notice that the natural theme spills over into the bathroom with sustainable cork board backing the shower and air plants intermittently growing throughout. The toilet and hand-made rock sink in the corner make use of grey water eco-principles by allowing you to wash your hands with fresh water before it goes on to fill the bowl. One of the most fun aspects of this property is that it allows you the opportunity to experience true off-grid living without sacrificing any of the comforts of normal life. Natural lighting, solar power and rain water catchment are the three principles that have been integrated into this tree top design, making it almost like a living organism itself. The beauty of this high flying haven is in the details. I spent the better part of three months personally constructing the building as well as the accessories inside. My goal was to create a customized and secluded space for your occasion. The chandelier, hanging lights, port-hole windows, rock sink and platform bed were all DIY projects that I specifically created to enhance your experience. The bamboo pillars that 'support' the lanai and the moss carpet under the hanging bed were harvested from local areas on the Big Island. IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS BEFORE MAKING A RESERVATION Don't worry, the capital letters are just to emphasize importance. I'm not mad at you. But please read this entire section before making a reservation. As lush and inviting as the Dreamy Tropical Treehouse is, there are inevitable 'challenges' that come with staying in an off-grid treehouse in the Hawaiian jungle. My goal is to give you an experience that combines adventure and luxury so I want to make sure that you are aware of the following things: 1. The treehouse is about 15-feet off the ground and is only accessible by the 'ladder-stairs'. 'Ladder-stairs' is just another way of saying 'very steep' stairs. There is a hand railing and none of my visitors have ever had a problem going up and down. There is a pulley system for hoisting up your bags. Only those who believe they are physically capable should book a stay. Just remember to go up and down the stairs facing them... like a ladder! 2. The running water comes from the rain falling on the roof and is not treated; therefore, the water is not potable. I will provide several bottles of drinking water. 3. The electricity you use is generated by sunlight and is stored in a battery. Once the battery runs out of power it has to recharge. This shouldn’t happen but just be mindful not to leave lights or power hungry items running for extended periods of time (No hairdryers). The windows allow for plenty of light during the day. 4. This is the rainy side of the Big Island so expect some showers! Realize that the pitter-patter on the roof is the rain's first stop on its journey to the water tanks and then to your shower. Also notice how warm it is. Don't think of rain as a trip ruiner but instead an asset to be enjoyed! 5. There are bugs but this isn't the Amazon. For such a tropical climate you will be surprised at how few bugs there are. The main things you will see are moths, fruit flies (due to fruit falling off of the trees) and mosquitoes. Bug repellent is provided but it never hurts to bring your own. They really don't get that bad but their presence increases after a hard rain and during the twilight hours. Luckily, the hanging bed has mosquito netting that drapes down to encompass it. 6. Noises. Living off-grid in the jungle also brings about its own set of noises. The water pump and solar inverter will make soft noises throughout the day as they are used. The falling fruit from the vivie trees can also be alarming if you don't know what it is, and at night you are going to be serenaded by the sweet chirping of coqui frogs. Rustling branches, grunts and squeals typically means that the cute family of wild pigs is nearby. They are harmless and will runoff as soon as they sense your presence. Quietly grab the binoculars and, if you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of them! All of these aspects are what makes this place so unique and, with the right mindset, they’ll only enhance your overall experience. Guests have free range to fully utilize every aspect of the house. The hanging bed, wrap-around porch, indoor-outdoor shower and closet are at your full disposal. I have recently installed a kitchenette that has a sink, cooler for storing food/drinks, and a coffee maker (also capable of heating up water). Any and all goodies stocked in the house are there for your enjoyment. Here is a more comprehensive list of amenities and features that will be available to you: •Indoor/Outdoor Shower •Toilet with Overlaid Sink •Organic Shampoo/Conditioner •Towels •Ample Parking •Tiki Torch ‘Flashlights’ •Hanging Bed •Table and Chairs for Lanai •Binoculars •Several Books •Outlets (3-prong and USB) •Kitchen Sink •Coffee Maker •Clean Linens •Gramophone Music Player for iPhones •Cooler for Food/Drink •Card Game Guest interaction can be tailored to your needs. My goal is to make sure your stay is unforgettable so you can always contact me via phone or email. Because I do not live on the island year round, a local neighbor can assist you if you have any problems that need tending to. Upon your arrival I can arrange to have someone greet you and show you the property or simply stow away the key for your convenience. The choice, of course, is yours. Even though I am not on site, I can always be reached. Feel free to call/text/email me at any time during your stay should the unlikely event that a problem arises. I will immediately contact the proper authority to have the problem remedied. The treehouse is located at the end of a neighborhood street making it very private. It is set about 50 yards off the street behind a windy, jungle path further adding to your privacy. There are only about five full time neighbors scattered throughout the neighborhood so don't expect to see a lot of people. The treehouse is about 20 miles from Hilo, 23 miles from Pahoa, 12 miles from Keaau and 8 miles from Volcano. Volcano is the closest place for laundry, good restaurants and groceries, though you will pay a little more for the groceries than in Hilo or Keaau. I recommend you stop on your way in from Hilo. When you book I will include a guidebook that has the locations, hours and prices of local restaurants and grocery stores. There is quick access to highway 11 and it is 10 miles from Volcanoes National Park. Numerous opportunities for sightseeing and adventures are within a 40 minute drive of this treehouse paradise and they will be included in my guest guidebook as well. This is the ultimate spot for couples seeking romantic seclusion in the middle of a tropical jungle or individuals who want to escape the world. Unless you feel like hitchhiking, you will definitely need a rental car with high ground clearance to comfortably explore the surrounding areas and access the treehouse. While nothing is 'far' on the big island, everything is just a bit out of reach by foot... except of course for those lovely, yet dense, jungle strolls.

  • No matter how breathtaking you think this listing is, just wait until you see it in person! Pictures can’t capture just how perfect this place is!

  • This is a magical place, you can't ignore your inner child when you're at the tree house. You have all the privacy in the world and it's a place where you truly connect with nature. Loved it!

  • We had a wonderful time at Kristie's beautiful tree house. The house and the location are quite spectacular! Not only did we enjoy the beautiful house in the wilderness but we also truly enjoyed the little things like the apt books and games she had left for us. My wife really enjoyed showering with the view of the wilderness 🤭. Also, special mention for her hospitality and ease of check-in and out, everything was very smooth. Would definitely recommend this experience! Thanks Kriste! 😃

  • Stay here. Just do it. If you love the outdoors and just getting way, this is the spot for you. Communication was a breeze and finding it was easy because she literally covered any questions/needs that could have come up. Beautiful spot.

  • Amazing place. 100 per cent would recommend. Super private and great romantic get a way. PICTURESQUE!! Great host too, organised and thoughtful

  • What an enchanting place! I am not an outdoors person, so this treehouse was the closest to camping I will ever come. Glamping is an understatement. Perfectly decorated, lovely touches such as brownies, robes, and postcards to send, and a sense of wonder waking up surrounded by lush forest, orchids, and a family of pigs and chickens. And the stars at night! The eco friendly utilities worked without a hitch, but we tried to use the electricity minimally to be sure we kept enough of a reserve. An SUV was definitely necessary to access the road to the tree house and I would recommend checking in during daylight hours to make getting situated easier. 15 minute drive to Volcano National Park, making this the perfect home base for exploring. Easy drive to Hilo.

    Liz2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! All we could hear at night was the rain and frogs, the shower is awesome, you can open the glass shades and you're pretty much showering in the jungle/forest, super quiet. It's all solar but we had no issues with it, easy to use and super comfortable. Perfect get-a-way.

    Chris2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This treehouse is like stepping into a Swiss Family Robinson themed Wes Anderson movie. It's easy to tell how much thought went into the build and design. Kristie's attention to detail makes living simply feel so luxurious. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique, blissful adventure.

*This cabin was featured in the New York Times in January, 2017. * A magical homesteader cabin embedded in 5 acres of unfenced Joshua Tree desert wilderness, 12 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. Experience peace, quiet, wildlife and STARS—on the grid but off the pavement. Important to note before you book: NOT APPROPRIATE FOR CHILDREN 2-12 NO EXTRA GUESTS NO PARTIES (including dinner parties) NO DRONES NO COMMERCIAL/PROFESSIONAL SHOOTING (photo, video, film) NO GRILLING NO PETS Thank you!

Thank you in advance! *** The restored cabin, which has been featured in the New York Times 'T' travel magazine, Wilder Quarterly, The Weekender and the book 'Jackrabbit Homestead,' was constructed in 1955 and still has its original green paint. The renovated interior has a cookware-outfitted kitchen and dining area. There is an outhouse with a dry toilet and roofless shower a few yards from the cabin. Wireless internet is available if you require a connection to the digital world. The cabin is equipped with air conditioning. Joshua Tree National Park is a 15 minute drive from the cabin. The Integratron and Giant Rock are also 15 minutes away. The cabin is less than two miles from artist Noah Purifoy's famous sculpture garden site. Two miles in the other direction is Dhamma Dena, a Vipassana Buddhist retreat center. The always swinging Pappy & Harriet's BBQ and music roadhouse in beautiful Pioneertown is a 30-minute drive. The Lou Harrison House, which hosts occasional devotional, folk and avant garde music events in an intimate setting is less than 10 minutes away. We will be happy to give you directions to each of these unique places (and many others) that we frequent ourselves. The cabin sits on 5 acres, and feels remote, but it's just 12 minutes from downtown Joshua Tree. You will travel a few miles on a secure, hard dirt road to get here. Enjoy the spectacular panoramic sunset and sunrise—as well as a blanket of stars. Sleep comfortably in a queen-sized bed. The cabin is located next to BLM land and a wildlife corridor, which means you will witness these wild animals in their native habitat. The cottontail rabbits, cactus wrens, lizards, desert tortoises, jackrabbits, coyotes, owls and roadrunners (and more!) that make the desert their home make a visit to this serene cabin all the more special.
This is rural desert wilderness. On the grid, but off the pavement.
  • Wonderful stay at the homestead. My husband and I have been road tripping around the southwest and we stayed one night at Stephanie & Jay’s place in between and it was peaceful and relaxing. Just what we needed. Lovely space. Very friendly & communicative hosts. Would recommend. A+

    Samantha2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Very close to Joshua Tree National Park, this cabin provided the perfect "end of trip" celebration for us. The outdoor shower is an amazing place to watch the sunset and the cabin itself is adorable. We enjoyed watching the wildlife during our stay! Pro Trip: we found the cheapest firewood at Stater Bros Grocery Store! We would definitely love to stay again!

    Taylor2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent location, clean & welcoming space and stunning views! What more could you ask for? We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back soon!

  • Just like the pictures, beautiful!

    Patrick2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful solo retreat at Stephanie and Jay's place. The cabin is secluded in a quiet area, but still with easy access to town. Super clean, minimal, basic – exactly what I was looking for. Jay was super helpful during check in and very communicative throughout the entire process. Would stay again, 10/10!

    Will2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! The cabin is absolutely amazing. We loved the peace and quiet, views and sunsets. The cabin had everything we needed to make breakfast and dinner each day, so we took advantage of that and relaxing on the porch at sunset. Directions were clear and location easy to find. The Joshua Tree entrance is 15 minutes. We picked up groceries in advance in Yucca. The hosts were easy to communicate with and quick to respond. Great stay!

    Beth2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome space highly recommended for people keen on spending time in soul-restoring quiet and peacefulness. Expect a beautifully and thoughtfully furnished living space and wonderful hosts. Plus: stunning desert landscape and a planetarium-worthy canopy of stars. Must be comfortable with compost toilet.

    Andrea2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is the second time I've stayed at one of Stephanie and Jay's places and the first at this location. As expected, I had a great time. I loved all the thoughtful touches. We spent roughly half our time at Joshua Tree National Park (which was easy to get to), the other half just appreciating the quiet and local scenery at the cabin. Highest recommendation.

  • In times of chaos this is the perfect off grid spot. By far my coolest vacation. It’s camping, but with a little wood cabin over your head. Cozy and isolated. Has everything you need if you’re the type to wanna connect with nature. Loved it!

    Catika2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is an incredible getaway into the Pisgah Forest! The surrounding landscape is beautiful and the cabin was the perfect home base for some excursions along the Blue Ridge Parkway. The cabin was clean, the perfect size for two people, and easy to use. Being off the grid felt great and was explained really well by Haley, who does a wonderful job explaining everything and being a community resource. I hope to come back soon!

    Samantha2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome time at the Cabin! It was super clean and cozy. Additionally, it’s proximity to Downtown Asheville and the Blue Ridge Parkway was perfect for splitting time between the hiking and exploring the downtown food and brewery scene. We came at the tail end of the winter so it was a bit chilly, but the cabin heated up quickly so it was never uncomfortable. Would definitely want to come back and experience it in the warmer months as well!

    Carolyn2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Super cool spot!!

    Sophia2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing views and very quiet! The cabin was very clean and cozy, just make sure to bring an extra blanket if you go during winter months since it gets chilly up on the hill, but otherwise awesome!

    Michael2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Love the off the grid feels of this cabin. Views and all around spot of this place is the kind of quiet I needed. Was lucky enough to have a perfect snowfall while I was there. Couldn’t have asked for a more perfect weekend.

    Alexis2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This Off-Grid cabin is the perfect getaway for anyone looking to appreciate the outdoors and relax!

We have a few dates that are becoming available from guests that are unable to travel to Oregon. Booking for AUG/SEP/OCT/NOV is Sunday, June 7th at 9 a.m. Pacific Daylight Saving Time. We usually have more available spaces late season. Sign up for our Booking Notification/Cancellation List by emailing summitprairie at the email of the world's most popular search engine (starts with a G). Our 2020 season runs Apr 2 - Nov 16. And please - please! - read the "Tips for Getting a Booking"!
BOOKING THE SUMMIT PRAIRIE DURING THE COVID-19 CRISIS... Several of our booked guests have contacted us asking us to please stay open so they have an opportunity to get away and relax in a relatively safe environment. We understand. We are trying to be socially responsible while at the same time meeting the wishes and needs of our guests. We really want to see you, but also to keep us all safe. At this point we do not plan to close unless we are ordered to by the state or county. Oregon Governor Brown's recent Executive Order 20-12 (dated 3/23/20) directing everyone in Oregon to stay at home to the maximum extent possible does not require us to close as long as appropriate social distancing can be maintained. Like all other businesses, we are taking extra measures to make sure the spaces are as clean and safe as possible, paying special attention to surfaces most frequently touched. Obviously we can't guarantee anything, but we are doing all we can to reduce the risk to you as well as to ourselves. We have only 2 reservations per week. No one else but the two of us will be here during your stay. And we live in our Summer House about 500 feet away from the lookout. If you do decide to come, please plan on staying here during your entire visit. That’s not a bad thing. There are plenty of things to do here - hiking, soaking in the hot tub, watching the deer in the meadow, and there are lots of games and books on the shelves of the lookout. Simply being quiet and apart from the hurt of the world right now is worth it. If you do decide to cancel, we will fully refund anyone, at any time, regardless of the reason, no questions asked. Should you decide to cancel, we would of course prefer that you do that sooner rather than later but we realize that isn't always possible. Also, if you're not feeling well, please cancel, even if it is last minute - we totally understand! We respect your decisions. And look forward to hosting you at Summit Prairie. 2020 SEASON BOOKING INFORMATION Our prices will remain the same as they have for the last 4 seasons. However, we will be moving to a 4 NIGHT MINIMUM - check in Thursday, check out Monday and a 3 NIGHT MINIMUM - check in Monday, check out Thursday. Check in/check out days will be Mondays and Thursdays only and we will not have any 2 or 1 night stays. We can only take about 60 reservations per year and there will be hundreds of guests trying to get a booking when we open the calendar. We allow our previous guests priority booking each year and they usually book about the half the season and almost all of the weekends prior to opening our calendar to the general public. You can Like the Summit Prairie on that site where you Like things, follow us on Insta or visit the summitprairie website for the latest updates. TIPS FOR GETTING A BOOKING 1. Make sure your Airbnb profile is filled out completely including a clear photograph of yourself, your government ID, what city you are from and a little bit about yourself. Our intention is not to discriminate against anyone but when we see an incomplete profile we feel like a guest is trying to hide something. We've had guests that were able to secure dates only to lose them before confirmation because they didn't have their profile completed. That is an Airbnb requirement, we're not in control of that. 2. Have all of your credit card information completed on your profile. Booking will happen very quickly and you will not have time to add credit card information when the calendar opens. 3. Early season 2020 (April through July) is completely booked but late season (August through November) booking will be June 7th, 2020 at 9 a.m. Pacific Daylight Saving Time - we usually have more available dates in late season because we have fewer large events pre-booked here. We will book our 4 night stays (Thursday through Monday) at 9:00 a.m. and our 3 night stays (Monday through Thursday) at 9:30 a.m. Check back here for updates or visit the summitprairie website and sign-up for our Booking Notification List. 4. Refresh your browser frequently. The entire booking window will last less than 10 minutes. Don't worry about sending us a message when you send us your booking request - someone else will grab the dates while you're typing your message! After the calendar appears full, continue to check back every few minutes during the first hour - guests frequently get overly excited when booking and dates that appear to have been booked end up opening up again. We will announce on the site when all dates are filled and booking is completed. 5. Be flexible on your dates. Most of the weekend dates and summer mid-week will already have been booked by our previous guests so most of the dates available will be early season (April/May) or late season (October/November). 6. Once you book your dates, you won't be able to change them as we will be completely booked for the season. You also will not be able to change the number of nights but you can cancel your reservation and if we're able to rebook the dates, we will give you a 90% refund (this is less strict than the Airbnb strict cancellation policy of 50% refund up to 2 weeks prior to arrival and no refund 1 week prior to arrival). 7. If you're unable to get a booking, visit the summitprairie website and click on Booking Information. Or send an email to summitprairie at the email of the world's most popular search engine (starts with a G) and we'll add you to our Cancellation Notification List. We usually get 5 to 6 cancellations during the season and the sooner you get on the list, the more chances you will get to book. 8. Finally, we do know that it is a complete hassle to book with us so we are extremely appreciative of you guys that stick with us through this process!! Thanks and we look forward to seeing you someday at the Summit Prairie! ---------------------------------------------------- Missing peace and quiet? Wishing for space to relax and renew? Here is your chance! Off the grid, atop a 40-acre meadow on 160 acres of private land. Surrounded by the Umpqua National Forest in Douglas County, Oregon. Welcome to Summit Prairie! Hear the wind give voice to the trees at the edge of the meadow. Listen to the birds calling in the valley below. Let the peace you feel here…. stay with you. Your hosts, Alan and Dabney, will welcome you, help carry your things up the four flights of stairs, and orient you to all the wonders of this place, then leave you in peace so you can enjoy. Built in Two Thousand Nine, the lookout tower is modeled after Fire Lookout Towers built by the US Forest Service in the early Nineteen Hundreds. However, it's enhanced with modern essentials: a full kitchen featuring hot and cold running water, propane stove, refrigerator, heater and lamps, exterior shower, comfortable beds in the cupola and main floor with windows all around to let in summer breezes and breath-taking views. And while simply chilling at Summit Prairie is oh-so-fine, think of this place also as a launch point for day trips to Crater Lake (2 hours), or Ashland, site of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival (1.5 hours), or historic Jacksonville, site of the annual Britt Festival (1.5 hours), Rogue River Rafting (45 minutes), the South Umpqua Falls (45 minutes) or the Seven Feathers Casino in Canyonville (1 hour). Imagine! Kick back and relax, read a book, play a game (or three)… write in a journal, meditate… daydream in the hammocks down the hill… soak your cares away and relax in a secluded wood-fired, spring-fed hot tub… Even dance under the moon or sing to the stars. Memories are made here. Come to Summit Prairie...
Enjoy 160 acres of pure, private bliss. Surrounded by the Umpqua National Forest, you'll awaken each morning only to the sound of birds calling in the trees or bees humming about their business in the meadow. In the evening be amazed at the sunsets, and then as the dusk settles into darkness, exhaust your ability to count all the stars that light up the sky.
  • I’ve been delaying this much needed review simply because I’m so overwhelmed by the place and don’t even know where to begin. No review will do Dabney and Alan’s place justice. It’s just impossible. Every part of staying here was remarkable. Getting to the summit is an adventure (and part of the fun) and so long as you follow instructions, it should be pretty easy. Once you arrive, the view will blow you away. Nothing can prepare you for the absolute beauty, peace, and quiet that this space offers. It is everything we wanted and then some. Dabney and Alan are among the best hosts anyone could ask for. Kind, generous, professional... they are without a doubt 100% of the summit experience and I only wish we could’ve spent some more time with them. Thank you to both gentlemen for letting my girlfriend and I stay here. Summit Prairie will forever be embedded in our memories as a spectacular experience.

    Emil2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • I 100% recommend Alan and Dabneys place! Everything was well thought out, including directions, recommendations for activities, and the initial walk through. I won't forget driving up and seeing Dabney wave from the top of the look out. Its an iconic scene. We never had any questions because they were very thorough. There was literally nothing more we could have asked for. As long as you bring enough food, and it's well planned, you'll be fine. I also recommend spending a full day in the cabin, to get the full effect. We happened to catch some poor weather, with only a few moments to catch the gorgeous view but we made the most of eerie fog and rain. Having no inclination to leave the look out due to weather, it was quite possibly the most relaxing trip we've ever taken. Staying in the look out for 2 days, there was plenty to keep us entertained. My only regret is not signing the guest book. Thank you so much Dabney!

  • Summit Prairie is amazing! When you drive up to the tower and see it for the first time it is breathtaking! Dabney was waiting for us at the top of the tower with a friendly wave to walk us through our stay and answer any questions we might have. They had everything we needed for a long weekend stay, and great local tips on things to see as well! Cannot reccomend it enough.

  • Expect to unwind and get some exercise going up and down the stairs to visit poo bear😀. If you don’t feel relaxed and refreshed when you leave you might need counseling.

  • Well worth the wait! We finally got to reserve a one night stay here and it was everything we imagined and more. The perfect place to reset your mind and relax with the ones you love. The tranquility of it all is really something that has to be experienced and taken in!

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ + It’s almost as if DnA invented Airbnb! They were ideal hosts! We had a private home with quiet nights in the hot tub overlooking the beautiful hills of LA and our own private, perfectly lite patio at night with early morning sun for coffee and sun bathing. One morning while having breakfast we watched as humming birds fluttered around the patio. They supplied above and beyond amenities and personal touches including snacks, beverages, movies, plush robes and so much more. The bed was very comfortable and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed to make our stir fry dinners and rice. We loved walking to York street for vintage shopping and healthy eating/drinking. I can’t wait to book another stay with them. Much love from Detroit to you! Thank you DnA & Apollo🌈

  • A truly great place and experience. We're stayed in some good Airbnb 's but this is up there with the best of them.

    Ray2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible. If you're lucky enough to be able to have the chance to stay here, take it. It will exceed all of your expectations even though they're already set pretty high.

  • This pool house was wonderful to stay at. It was very clean on the inside, and it had all the standard amenities one would expect. The pool was gorgeous and the hot tub was fun; we took a dip one night and really enjoyed it. Instructions were clear for self check-in and check-out, and both went very smoothly. The fridge and cupboards came stocked with a few goodies as well. The only thing I would note about this place is that the driveway is rather long and steep. I wish I could bring my mother here, but she has arthritis and would not be able to survive the driveway. Overall, we were very happy. Thank you for being great hosts!

    Bhavya2020-01-25T00:00:00Z

    Kyle2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Dennis and Alex's place is great! It has great views of the valley whether day or night. The Zen style pool house is stylish and clean!. The pool and hot spa are just a few steps from your door.

  • Awesome cabin! If you’re looking for a cozy little place to stay the weekend in, then this is it. They have everything you need to be off to a good start. I usually come up to ride but this trip was just for relaxing, and that’s exactly what we did! The jacuzzi is definitely nice during those colder nights. The furnace is a warming touch that can get the cabin cookin if you maintain the fire! Recommend!

    Jerritt2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved this little cabin! It’s so cute and cozy! It’s close to the village and restaurants. The Uber’s were only about $10 bucks each way which was very nice and convenient. The hot tub is the best part ! We enjoyed a glass of wine out in the hott tub. There’s beautiful lights above as well that set a great ambiance. The hosts were very accommodating and had good communication. Super easy to find, loved our stay thank you !

    Kourtney2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at the cabin! It's super cozy and had everything we needed. It's in a woodsy neighborhood which we loved, but it's also super close to the town center - best of both worlds! Marc and Esther were very responsive hosts and we'd stay at their place again in a second!

    Carly2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had an excellent stay at Marc an Esther's place. We spent most of our days enjoying the fresh air, making fires, enjoying the hot tub, and feeling cozy in the loft. Fast internet speeds along with Netflix made our stay even more enjoyable.

    Anthony2020-02-28T00:00:00Z

    Beautiful, inspiring and peaceful.
Corona virus COVID-19 note: rest assured our studio apartment is thoroughly disinfected and all items are re-washed and dried w/ high heat in between each reservation. A peaceful retreat awaits you in the trees just outside of West Asheville's "locals" downtown! Walkable to Haywood Rd and all our excellent neighborhood restaurants, art and yoga studios, farmers market and pubs. Note: Our house is in a dense suburban residential neighborhood and not outside of town. We have neighbors on all sides but we are lucky that our house is in an urban forest that affords privacy. The studio apartment is below the main house which has its own entrance and outdoor space. Our family lives above and we are very respectful of your privacy. The studio is SMALL one room space (12x15) but well equipped with a hot plate, under counter fridge, small table and 2 chairs and a queen size bed. You have your own small bathroom with 3x3 shower and toilet. Bathroom sink is in kitchenette. A laundry room is right next door and is also available. If you are looking for an unique space that is peaceful and quiet but part of a vibrant creative community you will enjoy staying with us and we will enjoy hosting you!
West Asheville is the best! Quiet and neighborly, it's not like downtown Asheville with hotels and so many tourists but you can get there or the parkway or the Biltmore very quickly by car. Downtown, five minutes, everywhere else, ten minutes. We have our own downtown in West Asheville and there's many excellent restaurants and music venues within walking or biking distance.
  • Thank you!

  • Jakub and Maria's spot is one of the most beautiful air bnb's I have ever stayed in!!! It was private and cozy, yet a short walk to some hip coffee shops and great breakfast spots, and we loved waking up to a beautiful view of the trees. Absolutely wonderful experience.

    Rebecca2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Jakub & Maria’s place is truly a sanctuary. It is such a cozy comforting space surrounded by nature within a little neighborhood. When you use the 2 screen doors it feels like a porch. It’s a quiet location but you’re just blocks from bustling Haywood. Jakub & Maria respond promptly and provided great recommendations for food and hiking. The bed is comfortable and the outdoor seating options are lovely. It’s a very welcoming environment. Highly recommend!

Beautiful PRIVATE TROPICAL Guest House in Topanga Canyon! Look up Cody Simpson & Ziggy Marley's video, "Love" on You Tube for video of property! 1 NIGHT STAYS ARE $225/NIGHT. MSG 4 INFO, NO DISCOUNTS on 1 night stays. Weekly & Monthly rates available, rates depend on season -- please inquire for long term stays. Rates vary per season & day of week -- please enter dates in calendar for pricing, rate as shown on listing is base rate! PLEASE READ ENTIRE DETAILS/LISTING BEFORE MESSAGING.
Hello! Welcome! Please read my entire listing before messaging, as I have comprehensive coverage for most all questions! Additionally, I do adhere to all of my rules & guidelines! No exceptions! Rules are: 2 guest maximum, no pets, no children of any age, no self check in, no visitors during your stay, etc.. The AirBnB app does not show what I do not allow, only what I do! Please check this listing on a desktop computer, so you understand what I do allow/do not allow before messaging. No parties/events/weddings on my property. HOME DETAILS: Come relax up in Topanga & get away! 1 Bedroom Guest House located in the Heart of the canyon for nightly & weekly rentals! The entire property has waterfalls, ponds & a tropical themed environment. The guest house has 1 queen sized bed & can accommodate a maximum of two guests comfortably. There is also a kitchenette with mini fridge, stovetop, complete with coffee maker & filters, dishes/pots/pans & washer/dryer on site (the washer/dryer is for stays of 5+ days). Unit does not have A/C, but has ceiling fans in the bedroom, along with sliding glass & screen doors in each room allowing for ventilation. PARKING: 1 carport parking spot is available, along with extra parking along the road. The road is paved, but has no sidewalks alongside. CELL PHONE & INTERNET: Wireless internet is available, along with a cell signal booster. Reception can be spotty up in the mountains, and is not guaranteed; although most all guests have not had issues. NEIGHBORHOOD: Topanga is a charming, countryside neighborhood adjacent to Los Angeles & very safe. I've lived here for over 30 years, and never had any issues. COMMUTE: My house is about 15 minutes drive from Santa Monica, 20 minutes from Malibu & 15 minutes to Woodland Hills, 30 minutes to LAX. Without traffic, I'm about 35 minutes from Hollywood, 40 minutes from downtown, 25 minutes to West Los Angeles/Culver City. To get a better idea of commute, I'm central in Topanga, so if you check a map for Topanga, CA & get directions from there, you'll be able to estimate distances. ARE THERE ANIMALS ON THE PROPERTY? No. I do not allow any animals in the guest house, nor are there any on the property (for allergy & personal health needs, I cannot allow animals on the property). For those who need petsitting: LADogma is a great local option where dogs stay comfortably in a home in Topanga. Just look up "LADogma" for more info. IS THIS A FAMILY RENTAL? My rental is Adults Only - No children of any age allowed (including infants)! Due to a unique property structure, with many stone stairways, ponds, firepit, size of guest house, etc., I remain firm on my policy of (2) adult guests maximum per stay. Many families try to message me asking for an exception; but I do remain firm on this rule, due to liability & safety concerns. I'm happy to host just parents for a romantic getaway, though! ACCESSIBILITY: There are several long flights of stone steps leading up to the guesthouse. This shouldn't be a problem for most people (and i'm happy to help with luggage), but if you have trouble with stairs, this may not be the place for you. I've had multiple pregnant women manage the stairs late in their term, but these stairs may also be a concern for pregnant women on bed rest. SENSITIVE? Sheets are 100% cotton, 600 thread count - I use all natural laundry detergents, for those of you with allergy concerns! I also provide organic soaps, all cotton towels & robes. Please do let me know if you have allergies though, so I can be extra scent-sitive! SURFING? If you'd like this to be a surf getaway, I'm happy to loan you one of my boards with your security deposit acting as collateral! I have kayaks & stand-up paddle boards available for use - but note that you'll need a truck or SUV to get them down to the beach (I don't allow guests to tie the boards to a standard car, even with a roof rack - I don't want my boards to be damaged). I've been surfing & diving for many years locally, and would be happy to give you some pointers on location, etc.. PHOTOGRAPHER? If you are a photographer looking to use my property as a location for a shoot, please note that I don't include shoots as part of a "package" deal when staying at the guest house. If you try to sneak a shoot on my property, this will result in a negative rating, possible immediate ejection from my property and/or loss of security deposit! Please mention any relevant photography in your message, as I would require that we arrange a shoot outside of AirBnB. I use my properties as locations, so a location fee would be required, along with standard insurance, etc.. If you'd like to take a few casual snapshots on my property for strictly personal use, that's fine.
FUN FACT: As featured in Cody Simpson's music video, "Love." (URL HIDDEN) LOCAL POINTS OF INTEREST: AirBnB does a great job of covering Topanga! Check out their location guide here: https://www.airbnb.com/locations/los-angeles/topanga Topanga State Beach is an 8 minute drive & Topanga State Park is about a 5 minute drive. In Topanga, there are many hiking trails, some with eight thousand year-old Indian caves & waterfalls. Mimosa Cafe is the village coffee shop, which is a 10 minute hike down the hill. Just across the way from Mimosa, there is a natural foods store & a little mini market. Santa Monica & Malibu are a beautiful 15 minute drive along Pacific Coast Highway. Suggested local restaurants would be Inn of the Seventh Ray, Froggy's & Cholada Thai food. Great restaurants in Malibu are Geoffrey's, Nobu Sushi & Cafe Habana. The closest large grocery store is a Von's Market, located on Sunset Blvd. There's also a natural foods market & deli in Malibu, named PC Greens. Additionally, a local raw smoothie & juice bar has opened recently, about a 5 minute drive from my place called Topanga Living Cafe in Topanga!

Vince left many thoughtful touches, including snacks, new light slippers for the concrete floors, and plenty of bathroom amenities.

    Katie2020-02-12T00:00:00Z

The cabin is a great place to escape from it all! The custom made cedar hot tub is hot and ready all winter. Cold, snowy nights make for excellent tub time!! Inside the cabin is warm and has the comfort of home. Want to ski? Two ski resorts are 30 minutes from us.
Nestled in the hilled forest behind our home, the Vermont Tree Cabin (16' by 12', 190 sq ft) is a great, quiet place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. While lounging on the deck or hot tub, you will be able to enjoy the calm and serenity of the outdoors, but still have the comfort of home in our authentic cabin lodging. Built in 2004, the cabin was temporally used as a home for our family while we built our house. The cabin has been completely renovated with custom tile shower, rustic hickory floors, knotty pine walls/ceiling, a kitchen area including a sink, Induction Hot Plate, small refrigerator, microwave, waffle maker, coffee maker, HD TV, DVD player with small selection of movies, good cell service (ATT & Verizon), 500 gallon custom cedar hot tub, Wireless internet, gas grill, rock fire-pit, picnic table and a 250 sq. ft. deck that is built into and around oak trees. One of our greatest amenities of the cabin is the custom built, white cedar hot tub. Maintained at 100- 104F degrees, the hot tub is ready for your use all year round, 24 hours a day; all you need to do is slide the cover off, relax and enjoy. While relaxing in the tub, be sure to enjoy watching the flames of a fire from the fire pit right off the deck. Our other amenities and services are as follows: Bedding – One full size memory foam bed and one single cot that can be included upon request. Food – Coffee, tea, waffle mix (make your own), Vermont maple syrup. Parking – private driveway and parking area for cabin guests. The cabin is completely insulated and heated, so we invite you to enjoy it any time of the year. Maid service - We do not provide turn down service or housekeeping in the cabin during your visit, but will make adjustments upon request. As we are located in the North East Kingdom of Vermont, the area offers many activities and events for your enjoyment. Our area is well known for some of our Ski Mountains and Resorts including Burke Mountain and Jay Peak. There are many other outdoor activities including boating and paddling, fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, etc. But don’t forget to check out some of Vermont’s well-known covered bridges, sugar houses, breweries, and farms as well. P.S. It’s great exercise walking from the parking area to the cabin. It’s only 150 feet away but a beautiful uphill stroll on a mix of well-lit paths and stairs.
Our property is private yet only minutes away from downtown. Saint Johnsbury is a typical small town that has a few shops, restaurants and stores. Most of our guests enjoy outdoor activities when they visit. Hiking and biking trails, ski mountains and lakes are all within 30 minutes of us.
  • this is the perfect relaxing getaway! we had the best time! the hot tub is amazing and waffles were delicious. there is something special about having nothing to do for 2 days :) thank you!

  • Perfect weekend getaway!! Very relaxing.

    Sandra2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Andrew & Marilou's place was exactly as we expected. It was clean & cozy! The fire place & hot tub were perfect as they allowed us to be outside on a cold winter night. Please note, they do not provide firewood, so make sure to bring some (they did sell some at the hardware store). They did provide boozy waffles which were delicious & fun to make on a slow morning! We would definitely come back & we are hoping to check out their other tree house!

    Brittany2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Such a peaceful retreat in Andrew & Marilou's treecabin - clean, quiet, comfortable, and secluded - with the hot tub and the waffles, it was exactly what we needed :) Definitely recommend

  • Andrew and Marilou’s Tree Cabin was a great getaway where we were able to relax and unwind for a few days! Great touches like the hot tub and the delicious waffles made our stay exceptional. We really appreciated the care put into the cabin itself and the hospitality. It was great to see some snow this winter, we’d love to come back to experience Vermont in another season!

    Timothy2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most perfect, unique, serene and adorable little treehouse cabin/location and we could not have had a better time! Ideal little hideout for a short, romantic getaway!! Great experience and extremely clean which we REALLY appreciate!! The waffles were a one of a kind sort of amenity, we enjoyed them SOO much! The Apple jack ones were our favorite! Marilou and Andrew are extremely quick with communication and so very kind and welcoming! They also left TONS of information about the area and all of the funn activities to do! Our absolute FAVORITE and most exciting, beautiful thing we did this weekend was the sleigh ride we went on that was only 30 minutes away!! Thomas and his enormous, handsome Belgium horse, Pete, gave us the best experience we could have ever had on this random little getaway! With blankets, hot chocolate and all, they took us around to the most beautiful sights in VT and gave us a free bottle of their homemade maple syrup!! It is called Chandler Hill Farm on Bayley-Hazen Road in West Danville, VT! Wonderful family! We also got a couple beers and some yummy wood fired pizza at Shillings only about 5 minutes away from the cabin! We even got to stop and hike at the Quechee Gorge on the way home as well!! So much to do and so relaxing all at the same time! :) Do not hesitate to rent this place, you will not regret it!! Best thing we could have ever done, so special. <3

  • Absolutely serene space. Up, tucked in with the trees with such a calm peaceful atmosphere. Beautiful little cabin with everything you need. The hot tub was perfect while being surrounded by snow! Marliou met us upon arriving and was a great host. There are a few restaurants in the area. Would recommend for a real getaway away from everything!

Little Owl is your Pacific Northwest cabin fantasy. 20 minutes from Mt. Rainier National Park, White Pass Ski Area, and some of the most breathtaking hiking on the West Coast. Amenities include a cedar soaking hot tub, WiFi, Weber gas grill, top notch cookware, hi-fi sound system, deck and balcony. We're just 2.5 scenic hrs from Seattle and Portland, and we're dog-friendly. Find us on Instagram @littleowlcabin, and click on our profile to check out our other three Rainier cabins.
Our cabin is immediately adjacent to National Forest land, and just yards from Coal Creek. We're 5 miles from the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. There are two twin beds on a platform upstairs that can be pushed together to form a nearly seamless king, or separated for single sleepers. Downstairs, we have a bunked twin above a queen, and a comfortable day bed in the living room. You're also welcome to camp on the deck. There's a half bathroom in the loft and a full bathroom downstairs. Our kitchen is fully appointed: Appliances, pots, pans, utensils, coffeemakers (drip and french press), milk frother, kettle and burr grinder. We also have a gas grill on the deck. In the winter, you're welcome to use our wood stove.
Our cabin has an off-the-grid feel, but with all the on-the-grid amenities. We're in a vacation home community, but we have plenty of privacy, and our deck and hot tub back up to National Forest land. Exceptional hiking, skiing and wineries are all within 15 mins to 1.5 hours by car. Some of our guests express surprise or mild disappointment about our proximity to neighbors. We're not off-the-grid. We like our cabin for the fact that it offers the best features of grid and off-grid life: It's adjacent to forever wild National Forest, but near enough to the grid to have zippy broadband Internet, flush toilets, and adequate electric service to heat a hot tub, power a range, etc. That said, if you're looking for a truly remote, fully isolated cabin, this probably isn't your place.
  • Absolutely loved our visit to Little Owl Cabin! The property, cabin interior and overall atmosphere was a cozy, get-a-way dream! The cabin was warm, inviting, clean, and offered practically every amenity you might need for the perfect cabin retreat! Great location close to White Pass and other recreational areas. We especially loved the cedar soaking tub, both quaint and relaxing! Loved our stay and wish it could have been longer! Looking forward to a future visit!

  • This house is absolutely magical, it's like something out of a fairy tale. We had a blast exploring the area, especially Mt Rainier Ntl Park, and it was a beautiful and relaxing space to have as a home base. 10/10 experience, definitely worthwhile!

  • This cabin is straight out of a magazine. We loved walking around and admiring the thoughtful details. It was the perfect place to propose (she said yes!) and the ultimate retreat away from the city. The hot tub was a dream. You are truly surrounded by nature and I’m writing this review feeling relaxed and refreshed. If you’re on the fence, just book it! You won’t be disappointed. Thank you Ryan!

Cozy tiny cabin nestled in the mountains with amazing views! The large picture window offers a majestic mountain view all year long. 420 friendly private outdoor courtyard with waterfall & twinkle lights. Access to hot tub. Micro kitchen has fully stocked coffee bar, toaster oven, induction cooktop and mini fridge. Light breakfast snacks provided. The luxurious memory foam pillow top mattress is unbeatable. Artisan locally sourced wildfire stump sink in bathroom. Located 2.4 miles from 285.
We invite you to share our little piece of mountain serenity with us. My family lives in a log cabin right next to our tiny house. The tiny house is located down a set of stairs. Please be prepared to use stairs if you stay with us. The hot tub shares a deck with our house but is yours to use exclusively for the duration of your visit. Guests have a designated parking spot with a painted sign and a private courtyard with a small waterfall feature and outdoor string lights for a relaxing intimate outdoor meal and/or smoking. All smoking (420 included) is allowed outside only. In our snow season, 4 wheel drive vehicle (or other winter ready type of vehicle) is sometimes necessary. (Generally, for our location, it is only necessary during or following winter storms.) Colorado implements "Passenger Vehicle Traction & Chain Laws" during winter storms for Hwy 285, which is the highway necessary to drive on in order to get to the cabin. So it is best to plan ahead and have the required type of vehicle reserved if you plan to visit during the winter months. The laws are put in place for the safety of all drivers on the roads. Please visit the cdot site for details on the requirements by law for passenger vehicles, including rental cars. FYI: recently, the I-70 mountain roads now have an all-time traction law 9 months out of the year, even if there is not a current winter storm in effect. If you plan to drive into the mountains on I-70 at all, you are required to rent a 4wd, all wheel drive vehicle, or 2wd with snow or mud/snow tires. Kitchenette includes: mini fridge (no freezer), small toaster oven, Keurig coffee maker, induction cook top with pan/lid/spatula, plates and utensils, bowls, cups/glasses, wine bottle opener, and a cutting board. We also provide cooking oils and salt/pepper. There is a sink in the kitchen as well. Dish soap and a scrub brush are also provided. We include kitchen towels but no paper towels or napkins as we try to be as eco conscious as possible. As with most mountain homes, our tiny cabin does not have forced air conditioning. However, it usually gets quite cool in the evening in the summertime so open windows and the ceiling fan do the job of keeping you cool! (Of course, I can't promise cool evenings; I can just let you know what's typical for our area.) I have a family member with severe pet allergies, so I cannot allow any pets on our property. Because the outdoor space is shared and my home is also used for cleaning linens and other items from the cabin (so, also a "shared" space), we cannot allow ANY pets on our property due to these severe family allergies. There can be no exceptions to this rule as this would be detrimental to the health and safety of my family. Thank you for understanding that there can be absolutely no exceptions to this rule.
Our place is located in a small rustic mountain neighborhood. It was a mining community back in the 1920s. We have some close neighbors, but they keep to themselves. Our neighbors are very particular about everyone driving slow on our dirt roads as they are not county maintained, so please follow the 10 mph speed limit signs. Watch for children at play, wildlife, and ATV/UTV travel on the dirt roads. Things to do nearby: Red Rocks Amphitheatre is a rock structure near Morrison, Colorado, 10 miles west of Denver, where concerts are given in the open-air amphitheatre. • My husband and I went for our honeymoon. This place is definitely the best that we’ve ever stayed at! It was central to everything we wanted to do in Denver, and we had a blast! To make it even better, we had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the fridge, chilled glasses, and there were plenty of other drinks and snacks to choose from during our stay. We actually used the kitchen and created our home cooked meal one night. The vibe of the whole house was put together very thoughtfully and it made it so much fun to be there. It couldn’t have been more perfect, and we have Mick and Patrick to thank. We are so very grateful to them ❤️

Our A-Frame is a labor of our love and was built as such. A getaway to relax, hike and enjoy. Our place is quiet, rustic, rural and completely off the grid in nature. It borders Zion National Park and is only 140 feet from the East Rim Trailhead. Stargazing is stellar! You’ll love our place because of the location, the views, the ambiance, and the true outdoors space and memories. We bring the outdoors in and the indoors outside. Our place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and friends.
The Space Upon arrival, you will park your car along the dirt road in one of the pull-offs and you will follow a wood chip and solar lit (at night) trail down a small ravine across a bridge with a seasonal stream and up another small ravine (about 150 feet in total) that is lined with beautiful Ponderosa Pines. On your left are the wildflower meadow and two lounge chairs for stargazing with no trees blocking the view. The view is 180 degree of stars at night. You can watch shooting stars and the International Space Station pass overhead when in view as well as explore the stars with the telescope. As you follow the trail and come to the top of the hill you will see the hammock to the left and the closed A-frame. Past the hammock is a bench and a small trail to an open area where there are Horseshoes and a small storage shed with Giant Jenga and cornhole boards/bags. There is an Adirondack loveseat adjacent to the A-frame. Proceed to the right and you will put in your code to the keyless door lock. From there you can open the A-frame and have an inside/outside room. Upon entering, you will notice that the natural sunlight is reflecting from the convertible wall and four other windows. Natural sunlight is everywhere. On the white storage cubes, you will find two binders: one is an A-frame manual with information about everything related to the A-frame, the bathroom, the BBQ area, and our property; the second binder has descriptions of different hikes you can take from the Stave Springs/East Rim Trailhead and other popular hikes as well as info on the surrounding area. Each one of the hikes has a map and a copy you can take with you in a sleeve within the book. There are games, coloring books, and cards located in a white cube and there is minimalist storage for your items as well as a luggage rack to keep the area clutter free for you. If you open up the A-frame wall or go out the front door and walk across the deck to the BBQ bar to look inside the Yukon ice chest there you will see see a block of ice, drinking water, and condiments in the wet cooler. The dry cooler on the opposite side of the bar contains some Smore’s fixings as well as candy/snacks in the basket for you. If you are Vegan or Vegetarian and do not eat marshmallows, let us know in advance and we will provide Vegan Marshmallows or leave a banana to roast. If you explore the lower cabinet of the BBQ Bar you will find plates, cups, utensils, cookware, and everything you may need to fix any meal. One of the greatest elements of this property is that it allows you to experience what off –grid living can be like with only minimal sacrifice. It has a solar system in place for the A-frame with an electrical outlet and a separate solar unit for the bathroom toilet. The natural light and convertible wall allows light to pour in and out and you can sleep with the wall open or shut. The water is from the local well and all water used is integrated to water the plants and trees. The special composting toilet allows for water conservation with no smell or mess common with a regular composting toilet. We spent 5 months designing and building this A-frame to make it a home away from home and a small piece of paradise away from our busy lives. Our goal was to make a place of peace, relaxation, and bliss where our memories could harvest new experiences. We wanted a place to be in nature as much as possible and where hiking was outside our door; and now we are sharing it with you. Now, stop and relax and breathe because this is what memories and vacations are about, not about the hustle and bustle of normal life. Sit in an Adirondack chair or patio chair that overlooks the ravine and wildflower meadow. If it tickles your fancy, relax and unwind in the hammock. Listen to the birds and wind rustle the trees. What you do on your vacation next is up to you. PLEASE READ ALL ITEMS BEFORE BOOKING! Read the entire section before making the reservation. So there are no surprises. You are in the Alpine wilderness and therefore you must have respect for it and be aware of a few items. *Ravine: You park on the graveled pullout along the dirt road or at the National Park parking and walk 150 feet or so down and back up a ravine. So if you have a lot of heavy items it will give you a workout. Trust me, we had to lug everything from wood beams to towels and it is tiring after a lot of trips. *Altitude/weather: you are at around 6,500 feet in elevation. If you have any heart problems and/or coming from sea level, you will notice a difference. The weather is also 9 to 13 degrees cooler than Zion National Park. Utah and Zion weather are unpredictable so bring warm and cool clothes. Layering is a must here if hiking. In the late summer/fall, there may be intermittent afternoon showers that last an hour or so. I love the afternoon showers because it gives me time to relax and enjoy the rainfall under the canopy of the convertible wall. It is all about perspective. *Water: The running water is unfiltered well water, so drink at your own risk. We provide you with several bottles of drinking water and a jug of drinking water. *Electricity: Solar Power is generated by sunlight and is stored in batteries. There is limited battery capacity that depends on the weather. If you leave lights on or the fan on, it can drain the batteries faster so be thoughtful when using the electricity. We have remote lights for the night as well as huge battery operated candles for evening ambiance. During the day the windows provide plenty of natural daylight. *Critters: You are in the wilderness. There are a lot of alpine critters on our property including squirrels, foxes, bats, Mexican Spotted Owls, California Condors, Peregrine Falcons, Bald Eagles, ravens, eagles, deer, turkeys, bunnies, coyotes, cougars (the cougar is not in area presently and not presenting any danger) and Rams have been seen on the East Rim Trail and 15 feet from the property. Additionally, Black Bear do live in the area but are very rare and usually come down only in the wintertime. So ...use caution and enjoy the alpine animals from a distance. Additionally, Rattlesnakes can be present in Southern Utah, especially in the summer (they like the alpine cooler weather). Please use caution if you see one and DO NOT bother it. *Bugs: You are in the wilderness and border two sides of the national park: there are lots of bugs that fly and crawl. There are spiders, moths, ants of all varieties, beetles, stump wasps, mosquitoes, black flies and horse flies. In Zion, I have heard of tarantulas and scorpions in some desert areas in the floor of the Zion Park (not usually in the alpine area). We have both natural and unnatural bug sprays at the A-frame but it never hurts to bring your own. We also have citronella tiki torches and sticks for mosquitoes but know that you are in nature at a remote location and therefore in a bug’s territory. There is not a large presence and we usually only notice a few at dusk. Bugs will be there regardless and most of the time not bothersome but know you will see some especially in a cabin that has a convertible wall. *Noises: During the day or night you might hear the birds, coyotes, turkeys, squirrels, deer walking around or other critters going about their daily life. The road is 150 feet away but hardly any traffic due to the trailhead not being well known, yet becoming more popular every year. People and the ranch rent ATV’s so you can hear them if they come down the road. It can be very quiet or can sound like a melody when the wind blows through the leaves or the ratty tat of the rain hitting the metal roof. It is all the beautiful noise and pieces that make this place so unique. *Convertible Wall: Presently we have gas spring mounted brackets to assist with opening and lowering the convertible wall. It is not hard for two people but still awkward. There is an additional brace (2x4) to help hold the wall up in the middle. This allows the legs to be lowered one by one or together, when two people are assisting. We thought about putting in a pulley system but it would cut into the view so we went with awkward for now. -With two people: *To open: you lift the wall from closed to open by pushing and lifting on integrity frame and once open, one person holds open the wall and one unlocks orange legs and places them vertically *To close: you reverse. So one person holds the wall up while the other lowers the legs and secures the lock. Then with the gas spring bracket you slowly lower. -For single guests: *We have a system to safely and slowly lower/raise the wall solo and we can help if needed. We will send you specific instructions and ask if help is needed. Everything listed above is what makes the A-frame so unique and amazingly different from other places. It is all about perspective and what experience you want to take out of it, hopefully, the above-listed items will enhance your stay and enjoyment. Here is what else is included in the property during your stay: ¬Toilet: Outside structure: The property has a urine diverting composting toilet. In our quest to provide our customers with a toilet that is as convenient to use and operate as a flush toilet, this system uses a continuously operating exhaust fan, and no mixing is necessary. NO Mess and NO SMELL. ¬Shower: Outside structure with the inside/outside door. So you can take a shower inside or open the sliding barn door to shower outside with a secluded nature view. Propane on demand hot water heater, low for water shower head and Cruelty-Free Shampoo, Conditioner and Soap provided. ¬Wash Basin to wash hands with water and soap and towels provided. ¬Linens and Towels included. Extra blankets and throws are in A-frame to make it cozy for you. ¬Fan and Heater. Since the A-frame is convertible and open to nature, we provide a fan to cool and a Big Buddy propane heater for heat. ¬Propane BBQ with a single side burner is provided for ease of cooking with a choice of how to prepare food. ¬Plates, cups, utensils: Biodegradable Paper plates, bowls and glass products provided. ¬Breakfast: My favorite modest breakfast starter of steel cut organic or organic rolled oatmeal and fruits with “fixings." I just like it because you boil the water, let it steep for 15 minutes and eat. Easy, delicious and nutritious for the early hikers. I am not listing a full breakfast because it is not a big enough meal for all, but for me it is divine. oApples oApricots oAlmonds oCraisins oRaisins oRaspberries oBlueberries oStrawberries oWalnuts oPecans oCoconut Flakes oCinnamon oBrown Sugar ¬Cooking tools: Pots and skillets, cooling utensils, silverware, knives and cutting boards, french press and coffee/tea provided. All soap, dish soap, and dish towels provided. ¬Yukon Igloo cooler provided for maximum chilling of foods (we provide ice block to keep it cold). There is also a small dry cooler with snacks and s'mores. ¬Margaritaville Explorer Cordless Frozen Concoction Maker by Margaritaville: Our secret indulgence: Jimmy Buffet Margaritaville Battery operated margarita/daiquiri blender Provided. (you provide crushed ice and beverages). Makes amazing Margaritas! Very Chill and relaxing to have an excellent margarita in nature! Where else offers you a perfect margarita in nature? It is my secret pleasure at dusk- but anytime is nice-- it is 5 o'clock somewhere! ¬Herb Container: Herbs can be cut fresh and put into meals. ¬Tiki torches and citronella oils provided (2 of them with bases). There are fairy lights and solar lights illuminating the main path. ¬Fire pit and firewood provided. Please keep fires moderate or mild in size due to forest fire risk! Fire screen and fire sticks for marshmallow or bananas (vegetarian/vegan way to make s'mores) provided. ¬Camp furniture: Adirondack chairs, ottoman, bistro dining set with small table provided. ¬Stargazing: telescope and lounge chairs in the meadow ¬Games: Board and card games provided as well as coloring and colored pencils (fun for relaxation). -Horseshoes and Giant Jenga playing area: supplies located in small shed. ¬Books on local hikes and Zion provided for use. Reading books are provided as well as magazines. ¬Water: A gallon of spring drinking water per day provided along with smaller bottles of water. Please provide your own Nalgene or bottles for hiking. Cups provided but nothing suitable for hiking. The spring water comes from Canyon Springs and Zion Ponderosa Ranch who provide the well water, but they do not use a filter system for their guests and deem it as potable water. I like filtering all water, so I will not describe the water as potable until it is multi-filtered. ¬Solar power is provided to A-frame but we like the battery operated Candles for ambiance. ¬Entry: Keyless Door lock provides security on the front door. We change periodically for the security of our guests. ¬Cart: to bring items from car to A-frame. There is a aero cart and a dolly near the shed. We are working on having dogs on the property, so inquire if you have an animal you want to bring. But due to the predator wildlife (coyotes, wolf, cougar), if your dog is a “runner” due to no fences except park fence, I would say it is not safe. Small dogs are not safe due to eagles (5.9-7.5 foot wingspan) and owls. If there are any questions, please contact us. We made this house with our ideas and dreams of what a perfect retreat for us would be and now share it with you. So, if there are suggested items needed please let us know. We hope your stay is a wonderful and blissful experience filled with great memories! Enjoy life- Britt and Mike
Our nearest neighbors are 500 feet away through the woods. The East Rim Trailhead is 140 feet away from the property and the East Rim Trail is 10 miles in total length. Depending on which trail you take, these hikes can be mild to strenuous with durations of 1/2 hour to 6 hours plus. East Rim Trail links with Weeping Rock , Cable Mountain, Deertrap Mountain, Hidden Canyon and Observation Point. Elevation change down into the canyon is roughly 2,150 feet. The plateau we are on is over 6,500 feet vs 4,000 feet on the park floor, which means while Springdale is 98 F/36 C degrees, you are at 85 F/29 C degrees at the A-frame (9-13 degree difference). It can be cool in the evening and during the summer warm to hot usually during the daytime hours of 1200-1600. The upper areas of the park are part of large plateaus and are less shielded from breezes so wind-chill is something to take into consideration. Late summer/early fall (July to October) has afternoon showers that last an hour or so. Weather for the park : nps.gov/ zion/ planyourvisit/ weather-and-climate. htm Phone for Zion National Park: 435. 772. 3256 The park information office is open between 8 am and 4 pm Mountain Time Historical Monthly Average Temperatures per Zion Ponderosa Ranch July 89 ° high, 58 °low precipitation is 1.25 August 86 °high, 57 °low and precipitation is 1.71 September 79 ° high, 48 ° low and precipitation is 1.23 October 71 ° high, 40° low and precipitation is 1.00 (last year was warmer 70's/45 -50's)
  • If you're going to Zion you have to stay here. Very relaxing and cozy, the best part was all the wildlife that surround you while you're there. Too many good things to say, you have to see for yourself.

  • This is the perfect place to stay when visiting Zion!

    Rooshabh2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing place! They really thought of everything

    Sarah2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • A great spot to disconnect from busy day to day life. Everything we could possibly need was included. Lots of thoughtful touches and comforts we did not expect being so remote! Love the margarita mixer too! Great hiking in Zion out the front door. Super comfortable bed and chairs around the fire. Great communication with owners, I would highly recommend!

    Courtney2019-10-10T00:00:00Z
  • A getaway that allows you to disconnect, recharge and explore the grand Zion! We throughouly enjoyed the attention to detail with the A-frame: pre-made oatmeal, french press, cooler with local brews, outdoor shower(yasss hot water), grill... the list goes on. Thank you again for sharing this little slice of heaven with us! We hope to be back soon!

    Jason2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing experience!! Exactly as advertised, only better!! So many little touches, no detail is overlooked. Everything is thoughtfully put together. Great communication and great information on site. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

    Alex2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is awesome. My girlfriend and I stayed here for two nights while hiking in Zion, and we had an absolute blast. It has everything you need for an amazing off-grid experience!

    Tom2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful cabin in the woods, fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a night off grid. Britt and Michael have clearly put a lot of thought and effort into making this as luxurious as ‘glamping’ could be. The bathroom set up works really well, the shower is good and as much hot water as you need. The outdoor kitchen is well equipped to cook a full meal if you wanted to, and the breakfast idea is genius; just add your choice of dried nuts and fruit from the generous selection provided to a jar of oatmeal, add water and wait 15 minutes and you have a delicious filling and healthy breakfast with virtually no effort or washing up! The fire pit was great, all the kit provided was well seasoned and bone dry so was easy to light. There were lots of visitors to the meadow on our evening by the fire; many different birds, squirrels, wild turkeys and chipmunks. It felt it could be quite ‘buggy’ so we didn’t open the A frame, but with the citronella torches lit, they weren’t a problem anyway. The bed was super comfortable. The cabin really is in the middle of nowhere, but for us that was part of the attraction. Unfortunately we only got to stay one night so didn’t explore the immediate area. If you like being in the outdoors and don’t mind a bit of ‘roughing it’ then you’ll love this place.

  • The Dixie Daisy is the coolest air stream get away we could have imagined! It has everything we could’ve asked for in a getaway from town. There is an awesome hot tub, outdoor shower, grill, fire pit, hammock, and a beautiful property on a creek to explore! Thanks Jennifer and Greggory for opening your property to visitors! We loved our stay!

    Michelle2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Can’t say enough about this little place. The outdoor area is amazing and so relaxing. Everything you need. The bed is super comfortable one of the best Airbnb we’ve slept in. Close to town. Very private. Loved the property and fresh eggs.

  • This was our second time staying here and we will be coming back again and again! Amazing amenities and hospitality. The property is absolutely gorgeous and a perfect place to disconnect from the day to day and reconnect with your loved one.

  • We had such a great time staying at Jennifer and Gregory’s! Such a fun and unique experience that we would recommend to anyone!

    Vanessa2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with thoughtful touches and in a great location. Peaceful property close to Wimberley.

    Andrea2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We can't say enough fabulous things about the Dixie Daisy- our only complaint is that we should have booked at least another night, if not two. The setting was idyllic and felt super secluded despite being so close to everything. From the little touches like farm fresh eggs from their "egg-centric" hens, to the gorgeous jewel of a hot tub, - we just couldn't get enough! We got to see a little snow, too (from the shelter of our heated bed). We will definitley be returning!

  • Daniela and Richard's house was the perfect place for my fiance and I to spend a few relaxing days in the desert. It was freezing at night, but we enjoyed the hot tub and stayed cozy indoors. In the mornings, the sunrises were beautiful, and we enjoyed hiking straight off the property. Kitchen was well stocked, everything was perfectly clean, we saw tons of wildlife, even when bundled inside, thanks to the huge windows. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

    Laura2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at the Green Haus. It is such beautiful space and very relaxing environment. The tub must be enjoyed at sunrise and sunset... Thank you again.

    Regina Angelene2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • The photos are nice but it is even better once you are there. It is like staying in a suite at a lodge. Really thoughtfully designed with the "tahoe feel/look". You can actually see some mountain outside the main window along with forest. The place is setup where you really enjoy being inside and you don't feel like it is just a place to sleep while you explore Tahoe. It is part of the experience and at a fair price too.

    Sarah2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • A few friends and I rented this chalet for a couple nights so that we could experience tahoe in winter! We had a great time, and the house's location was perfect. It is within easy driving distance of town, and all the tahoe sights- sledding, skiing, the lake, and multiple state parks (I recommend spooners summit off the 50 for sledding!) Overall it was a fantastic space, and I thought they were thoughtful when putting it together! Highlights include their impressive movie and board game collection, and the fireplace. Definitely bring basics with you though, including oil/butter and cooking spices for the kitchen, some extra towels if you are a larger group, and toiletries.

    Rayna2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • My family of 5 stayed at R&Ds place for 4 days and it was a wonderful time! The kids had a blast being cuddled up in the room of 4 beds. There was plenty of snow in the backyard and in the front area that we played all day! The house stayed warm, the kitchen gave us that “home” feeling as we cooked and kids sat on the bar stools. The area is quiet, so it was nice to fully unplug without the city noise. Thank you R&D for a beautiful home to stay in, we truly appreciate your extremely quick responses and you actively reaching out to us with every detail we needed to know. Thanks again!

A mid-century A-frame cabin with panoramic ocean views, perched on a hillside just 2 blocks above Oceanside Village and the beach. A quintessential Oregon get-away....quasi-rustic with all the right creature comforts.
The A-frame is a duplex, Unit A is the upper of two private 2 bed/1 bath units. It has a large private deck with amazing ocean views unobstructed from Cape Meares to Cape Lookout, and a wood burning stove for chilly nights. Under the rafters of the A-frame, you can enjoy amazing ocean views from most areas of the unit, including the upper loft bedroom. This cozy unit has the feel of a surf shack, or the quirky summer beach cabin from your childhood with all the lovely creature comforts - wifi, your own music streaming, good coffee, fluffy bathrobes and down comforters.
2 blocks from the A-frame, Oceanside Village features 2 good restaurants & a coffee shop, plus post office and fire station, that's about the extents of sleepy Oceanside and why it makes a great getaway! Nearby Cape Meares, Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda state parks offer hiking and nature exploration, or try your hand at crabbing or clam digging in nearby Netarts or Tillamook Bay. For the adventurous set, there is decent surfing, or even a parasailing launch site just up the hill. Or just curl and and read (or write) a book while taking in the view.
  • We had such an amazing time at the A frame! it's so beautiful, just the most perfect space to get away from the city for a full moon at the beach!

    Nicole2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the unit is amazing. Catch the sunset!! And we also grilled some shrimp and fish outside on the deck. Amazing trip!

  • Emily’s place was the perfect little getaway for the night! The fireplace made it so nice and cozy and we loved the view and the deck it offered so we could sit outside and enjoy the sound of the waves.

    Alexandra2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect stay for a quick get away from Portland. The town is quaint but has just what you need for a weekend away. The A frame has unparalleled views from inside the house and the deck. It was extra special to be able to sleep in the loft with the crashing waves and have the first thing you see in the morning be the expanse of the ocean

    Kelsey2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Cutest little A frame with amazing views!

    Francesca2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I stayed here for only a night, and honestly it was an experience I'll never forget. Maybe I've never been so spoiled by a view before, or maybe the place really is magic. Either way it was breathtaking. We plan to build a whole trip around coming back. I'd you're reading this and considering staying here, just do yourself a favor and do it. You can thank me in the guest book :)

    Beth2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Emily’s place is wonderful. Has a view to die for, decor is welcoming and fun. Bed in the loft was quite comfortable, linens very nice. Bathroom is cozy but well supplied. Sun was out while we were there but hanging out space was comfy and there were lots of games if we had needed them. Emily supplied helpful info about the area. Check in and check out were easy. We loved it, recommend it highly.

Relax, rejuvenate and unplug in this ultimate rustic getaway experience in the country. In our beautiful screened Pondhouse, you can gaze at the stars and listen to the sounds of nature from your cozy warm bed. Feel the breeze as you sleep in this magical place unlike any other you will have ever seen. Your whole being will be nourished by your time spent here. There is the Pondhouse itself, the outdoor fire pit, meditation spots around the pond, and trails nearby for walking in the woods
GLAMPING, aka Glamour Camping Available mid-April through November 1 Read just a few reviews and you quickly understand that the Pondhouse is truly an EXPERIENCE. It is a transformative, magical retreat. NOTE: the Pondhouse is not for everyone. No electricity. ( You will see a few outlets, but animals chewed the electrical wires years ago and we decided not to hook it back up) No walls-screened only. You will hear animals in the woods. There are bugs! The bathroom is a two minute walk. No kitchen. No stove (but there is a well stocked outdoor fire pit). You take chances with the weather. We've had guests love a cozy rainy weekend and even book an extra day during 30 degree temperatures. No kids under 12, and a new limit of 2 people only. This is part of our new effort to keep this a very quiet, unplugged, zen type of escape - but please write me to discuss if you have a special situation you'd like us to consider. If it feels like a good fit we are willing to bend these rules once in a while... Really! While we want to be dog friendly, please write to me to answer my dog questions so I can decide if your dog is an appropriate fit. After two negative experiences this season we are being much more selective and careful. Still interested? Read on. . . You have your own private, full bathroom, with shower, located in our studio building a two minute walk from the Pondhouse. And here is where you get electricity! You can charge your phone and use wifi There is a fire pit a few steps from your door. It’s stocked with paper and chopped wood (or chop your own), so you can make a fire to roast marshmallows, cook a whole meal, or just hang out and enjoy the feeling of camping. Other amenities, including plates and utensils, small fridge, electric teapot, coffee press, coffee and teas are provided for you in the studio. CAUTION: *No Wi-Fi or cell service in the pond house - come to unplug! (There is electricity, and wifi you can use at the studio) *No nearby transit, and we are in the boonies, so you’ll need a car *Planning this as a surprise? I strongly suggest that you KNOW that your partner will love this. I've seen a few surprises not work very well. Glamping is not for everyone! *We are on 50 acres and sound carries. This means no loud music. *Please be respectful of the peace, quiet and serenity of our property *MUST arrive before dark My husband, Peter Kitchell, and I are artists and have lived here for almost 32 years. Peter has carefully cultivated and nurtured the land, which includes building the Pondhouse with Hemlock trees from our woods. We have three buildings (our home and studios) a two minute walk from the Pondhouse. We are good at respecting our guest’s privacy but are also happy to chat and answer any questions. I've made a great list of places to eat (including dog friendly & vegan!) ** Having a special anniversary? Give us a budget and we can decorate with extra special things like flowers, treats, or whatever you'd like! This is truly an amazing place. ***PLEASE READ ENTIRE LISTING DESCRIPTION AND RULES BEFORE REQUESTING A RESERVATION.*** We want to make sure that your stay meets your expectations... When making a request, please tell us a little about yourselves, your interest in the Pondhouse and indicate that you have read the full listing and house rules... Thank you!

  • Absolutely stunning location - weather was still wonderful and the fall scenery was beautiful to see from inside the pondhouse. We fell in love with Charlie too.

    Julia2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • A magical place. We went there for a weekend this October but unfortunately our stay was cut short due to a family emergency. Gayle was very understanding and has been working with us to reschedule the night we missed. I wish we could have stayed longer!

    Christina2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Spent a long weekend at the Pondhouse, and it didn't disappoint us at all! We followed Gayle's directions, and it was really easy to find the place. Gayle's family is super friendly. It was simply soothing to sit back and relax here. Even though the temperature dropped to 30s at night, it was still cozy and warm snuggling with my friend under multiple layers of blankets Gayle provides. We would definitely love to come back and visit!

    Jessie2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • Gayle was a sweetheart. It rained, and we weren’t as prepared as we thought for cold weather. So she gave us beanies, scarves, even boots to keep us warm and comfortable! And we had such a pleasure from the most friendliest and sweetest dog ever: Charlie. We love him!! 😃❤️

    Gladys2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, romantic, back to nature, ... Our stay was exactly what we had hoped for!

    Maaike2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • I'm a regular in the tiny house / glamping scene and Gayle's place was right up there in top-of-the-list territory. Her Pondhouse is nestled in the unpretentious greenery at the bottom of her magnificent property at the end of a quiet country road. The pictures give you a good sense of the space but what you don't get is a sense of the magic that you feel inside the space with the sun streaming through the tall grasses and the quiet of the leaves falling on the metal roof. The pictures also don't tell you how wonderful the bed is and how soft the bedside rugs are. So many delightful touches. My teenage daughter and I stayed there for two nights. We had planned to go on some hikes in the area but in the end decided we couldn't tear ourselves away from the Pondhouse. We'll be back!

    Sara2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible weekend spent in Gayle's pond house. Every minute was a dream. the decor was beautiful and the nature even more so. We cooked out by the campfire, napped and read for hours in the cozy pondhouse bed, we explored the neighboring towns and hiked and ate well. All around a magical and romantic weekend with my new husband on my birthday!

  • 2nd time at Phil & Tove's place. Always an amazing experience.

    Nuthapol2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The views and location of this home are amazing! Full views of the water in a quiet atmosphere. In the warmer months you can take advantage of the water activities as well. The hot tub was nice (and one of the reasons we chose this house). They provided coffee beans/grinder, which my husband appreciated. Both bathrooms were AMAZING with walk in tiled showers and a large soaking tub upstairs. This home is two levels with stairs so if you have trouble with stairs it wouldn't be the place for you. It wasn't a problem for us and again offered two decks and amazing relaxing space to spread out and cook/eat. The kitchen was state of the art and easy to create our own meals in. They even had a garlic press and ice cream spoon!

    Melinda2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our little family loved this beautiful vacation rental! It is definitely even more beautiful than the pictures! We loved the oyster shells on the beach, the campfire and hot tub and the home away from home feel. This place was stellar. We will be back again one day.

    Angela2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Phil & Tove were very easy to work with and their place is beautiful and gorgeous. They were very accommodating to my husband and I for our weekend away for my 60th birthday. The house was very well stocked with basics and quality items through out the place. We will share this Airbnb information with our friends and family.

    Debbie2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • If it’s even possible to believe this retreat on the water is better in person! Pictures can not truly capture how tranquil the Fjord sounds with the most beautiful backdrop the NW has to offer. To cold/hot to be outside? No problem glass walls allow you to enjoy it all in comfort! Our host was responsive and the guide book inside leaves no question unanswered. We will definitely be back!!

    Starr2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is gorgeous. Check-in and all the small details provided an excellent cozy and fun stay. It’s hard to beat the view of this place!! My family will definitely be returning and next time staying longer!

  • My wife and I had a lovely and relaxing stay at this beautiful home. It had all the amenities of home, plus some. Comfortable, cozy, and the best view. Our dogs had a great time as well.

A delightful experience often compared with the French Riviera, incredible ocean views. Conveniently located only 23 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), 15 minutes from Santa Monica, seconds from gorgeous beaches and mountain hikes. If this space is not available for your dates or you need more room we have another super cool larger loft apartment see our profile for the other listing. This apartment can also be viewed at: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4350779
Situated on a sea facing canyon this beautiful home has to be seen to be believed. Over looking the Pacific toward the island of Catalina. An idyllic house with ample on site parking. Surrounded by three acres of mature gardens, oranges, lemons and figs are ready to pick upon your arrival. The apartment comprises of bedroom, bathroom, galley kitchen, large sitting room and private sea facing terrace. The one bedroom, open concept apartment is perfectly suited for a couple but has a queen size sofa bed and a small pull out bed for a child. The bathroom has a curtain rather than a door. Access to the Malibu beaches and the Santa Monica Mountains are within minutes of the house. There are scuba diving facilities and world class restaurants on the Pacific Coat Highway. Drive along the Pacific Coast Highway to Zuma Beach, shop at the luxurious Lumber Yard. There is a discreet public access to Billionaires Beach at the bottom of the hill. Santa Monica is only 20 minutes away. Wi-Fi and cable are available. This unique home has everything a trip to Malibu promises. If this space is not available for your preferred dates or you think you want more room we another totally separate apartment on the property with it's own access and terraces etc. super cool and worth checking out. This apartment can be viewed at: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4350779
We love the tranquility of our very beautiful mountain and the spectular ocean views
  • Cannot speak highly enough of this place. The view can’t be captured in photos, you won’t want to leave the house. We stayed for a week and I think I spent 75% of the time just staring at the view. It’s also great that you can sit inside even on a cool day and bake in the sunshine if you’d like. Or curl up and watch a movie or TV, with all the options available. The grounds leading up to the home exceeded expectations, it’s a super lush garden complete with a koi pond. Really tranquil and beautiful. Can’t wait to come back. The nearby area is also great, of course, it’s Malibu. David & Ling’s local recommendations are great - additionally we liked Zuma beach if you’re looking for an easy access, low key beach. Point Dume was also beautiful, and we saw whales swimming by right off the coastline (thanks for the suggestion David & Ling). Food wise - The Reel Inn was awesome for fresh local fish. And the Marmalade Cafe near the Whole Foods (north on the PCH about 10 min) was great for a greasy spoon, whatever you’re in the mood for meal. The shopping center that Whole Foods is in is also great if you want to stroll around and do some shopping. A couple tips: the road to the place is windy! Just be prepared mentally for that, ha. It’s beautiful but takes some getting used to. The place does get hot during the day if you leave all the blinds open fully (even in Feb!). Take advantage of the fans and crack the windows + run the fans starting early in the morning to keep it comfortable. Lastly, this was not an issue for my husband and I, but note that the bathroom is an en-suite with just a curtain for a door and the walls don’t meet the ceiling. It’s a lovely bathroom, but if you’re a new couple or at all coy about bathroom stuff .. I might try to rent the upstairs unit of this home instead!

    Stephanie2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • David and Ling’s place was great! The views were stunning and the property awesome. The hosts were very responsive and provided an easy check in with great recommendations. It was nicely stocked, providing citrus on the property for our margaritas 😀 I’d just mention that there is a home/apartment that is above the unit and at times you can hear. Other than that, great stay!

    Victoria2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A respite for the mind, body and soul on every level. Waking to the sunrise over the canyon, breathing in the fresh air as it drifted into the house, hearing the birds and watching them play in the fruit trees, short strolls to spectacular sunsets, and staring at the stars each night from the patio all brought such peace and calm. This house is a true gem; you won’t want to leave... One heads up: you may loose cell service as you go up the mountain to get to the house, but just follow David and Ling’s directions and you’ll get there with no problems. The WiFi at the house worked great (and our cell service returned as we neared the house). David and Ling also provided great tips on where to go and what to do and were very easy to reach in planning our trip. Very happy with our stay. Hope to be back soon!

  • Amazing place with spectacular view.

    Ruben2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • A great experience!

    Leonardo2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning AAA location and the most beautiful garden with trickling running water and fish too! If you would like solitude nestled in nature, hearing all but the wind blow gently through the mountains and the birds and crickets chirping, this is the place for you. But what makes it even more spectacular is that great food - Whole Foods, Malibu Country Mart, Malibu Pier Cafe, Nobu to name just a few (all of which are lovingly put together as notes by the hosts) - are just a few minutes drive away. Ling and David were such lovely hosts, very warm and welcoming and super quick to respond. Easiest check-in yet, the place is clean and the design and amenities are super nice a well. The space is just perfect in size, very spacious and has a real home feel to it. Thank you Ling and David for a most wonderful experience!

  • This property was like a little slice of heaven, the views, vegetation and privacy were so nourishing. The road is a bit windy and narrow but once you drive it a few times you get used to it. Grateful for my time here + look forward to returning.

Come enjoy seclusion and mountain views in this sweet little off grid cabin tucked back in the woods of our 125 acre private gated mountain top escape near Pisgah National Forest. Hike 150 yards down a flat gravel road to get to the cabin for a retreat from your normal day to day life. Disconnect and enjoy the mountain view, nature and solitude. Bring your dogs. Bring a book and lounge in the hammock. Enjoy the simpler things.
DUE TO THE NEW COVID 19 COUNTY REGULATIONS: APRIL IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR LONGER TERM ISOLATION/QUARANTINE STAYS This off grid cabin is located on 125 acres of private land that is gated and backs up to Pisgah National Forest. It is 4 miles to the Blue Ridge Parkway and to the top of Mount Pisgah. It is close to all of our favorite hiking spots and swimming holes on the Blue Ridge Parkway! An easy 25 minute drive to Asheville and all of it's amazing food and breweries. The cabin is 100% off the grid: that means solar panels for limited electricity needs, propane heaters help keep the cabin cozy during the winter, and an outdoor shower area. Bring your own bedding and towels. Enjoy our 3 burner propane cook top for cooking, granite countertops, a sink with a water dispenser for drinking water, board games and a very comfortable queen size bed. Lounge in the giant hammock under the trees. We provide a solar shower (5 gallon camping shower bag) that can be heated in the sun and used year around (mind you the shower is outside so plan accordingly with weather). In the summer months we have a heated rain water collection shower that we try to keep up and running. It is temperamental so we keep the solar shower as our primary shower and consider it a bonus if the rain water shower is functioning! We also provide a list of other places to shower if you are staying for a longer period of time and crave a long shower or it is too cold t shower outdoors. The cabin has mountain views through the trees and is tucked back in the woods on a flat gravel road that you will have to walk on to get to the house. You will stop and park near the out house. We provide a wagon to help get your things to the cabin. The outhouse is about 150 yards from the cabin with floor to ceiling glass windows looking out through the tree tops...definitely the best view you have ever seen from an outhouse! The outhouse is cleaned out weekly on Mondays sometime between 8-11 am by a service truck. Our Goal Zero solar generator provides limited electricity to run the solar lights inside the cabin. If it has been cloudy, then the solar generator may not get charged enough to run the lights. We try to keep lanterns and flashlights around as back ups...but it's best if you bring along your own incase the solar generator runs out of power. We do have a back up solar generator that we keep charged in case it stays cloudy for days so please let us know if you need it. During the winter, the space is heated with a propane heater and can stay pretty warm. If they are calling for below freezing temperatures, I would recommend bringing extra blankets or warm sleeping bags. Bring some wood and make s'mores in our fire pit! Bring a cooler for your perishables since we do not have a fridge. We love all dogs of any size and welcome them to come on vacation with you! They will need to be left in crates if left indoors while you are out adventuring in town. We prefer they don't get on our furniture. Bring dog beds along for them. We are happy to be able to provide a dog friendly space since we too are dog owners and lovers....we just request you clean up after them, relocate their poops to the woods, and be sure to sweep up their extra dog hair before you leave.
Our mountain top escape is at the foot of Mount Pisgah and backs up to Pisgah National Forest. The roads are steep, but amazingly paved and engineered. This property was originally intended to be a housing development, but we have purchased it and put it into a Forestry Management Program with EcoForesters. Future plans include a trail system. We have one other Airbnb on this property but they are very far away from each other.
  • My wife and I were blown away by this place! It was so cool and Haley clearly put a lot of thought into it. The directions to get there were very well explained and everything was so clean. We loved that we were able to bring our dog with us. She loved our relaxing weekend get away just as much as we did!

  • The house was very clean and up to date with any and everything that you would need to feel right at home. You get a nice secluded feel without being too far away from lots of things to do. Jed and Damaris were great hosts and frequently checked in via Airbnb message to make sure we had everything we needed. I would highly recommend staying here and hopefully we will get the chance to stay there again soon.

  • Jed and Damaris are the best! This cabin was everything I expected and more. There was a slight issue when it came to our check-in, but the hosts got ahold of support within minutes and got the issue resolved. Couldn’t be happier with our stay. As far as amenities, they have everything you could need covered! (Including a SLED which I totally used.) I will absolutely plan on coming back!

  • This was the perfect getaway cabin in a secluded town! It had privacy and amazing amenities. We were able to relax and hang out in the hot tub! It’s a comfortable and clean spot. The town pf black hawk is not anything impressive, but there are plenty of places you can drive to in order to ski, snowtube and get quality groceries. We would return again!

Our growing tiny house community is in a light industrial side of town with resident tiny homes and some RVs as neighbors. The community is well lit and safe. The view across the lake are multi-million dollar homes. A big lifestyle for a tiny price tag. Orlando Lakefront is the only tiny house community in Florida and the largest in the nation. We have been featured on HGTV, Orlando Magazine, Fox News, and the Orlando Sentinel. There are 16 other tiny homes in the community with residents and guests alike living the tiny life!
  • Wonderfully appointed. Beautiful location. Responsive host. This was our second stay and we will be back again. It’s wonderful to sit by the lake in the mornings and enjoy a cup of coffee.
