Places to stay in Stillington
An original Jacobean manor built in 1620 with stone mullion windows, thick oak beams and yorkstone flags. Lovingly restored as a family home, where tradition meets mod cons from Chalon Kitchen to Linn room-to-room surround sound. Sitting in 17 meadowy acres you'll have an amazing sense of privacy and privilege when staying here. Whilst the Manor comfortably sleeps 16 plus a couple of roll-aways, the two country cottages on-site can accommodate an extra 12, if required.
A perfect retreat, Crayke Manor is regarded by many locals as the most beautiful home in the County. Not only the cosiness and solidness of the Manor itself but the way it proudly sits in its 17 acre surroundings. Near enough to the nearby village to stroll to the pub and far away enough to have ones own privacy and tranquility.
On the outskirts of the picturesque village of Crayke with its award winning The Durham Ox pub. Plentiful walks and historical sites, like Ampleforth Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey. Nearby towns like Helmsley and Easingwold. The historic city of York is only 10 miles south of the Manor.
  • We recently stayed at Crayke Manor for a family occasion. The accommodation is fantastic, with so much space and character. Ideal for larger family gatherings. The outdoor climbing frame was great for our daughter and the rest of the family enjoyed the hot tub, even in Jan. Justin was really responsive and flexible.

  • Wow! Just Wow! Just got back from an amazing stay, celebrating my Father in law’s 60th birthday with the family! The place was better than we could ever have imagined! It’s an idyllic place with so much character! There was so much space and with 16 adults and 5 children we were never on top of each other! Amazing reception spaces with the 2 sitting rooms and kitchen! It catered for everyone of our needs. The hot tub was a great touch too. We will certainly be rebooking this amazing manor!

    Lloyd2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • The Manor is even more beautiful and equipped in reality. John and all the staff at Crayke Manor couldn’t have been more helpful or hospitable. This is a truly special place to stay.

  • This was the perfect place to house our extended family for the long weekend. Amazing house, very easy to check in and just right for our large group. Justin was extremely responsive to my messages during the booking process and before/after staying there.

  • The manor is in an idyllic setting close to the village and is a really old and impressive building. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The kitchen was really well equipped and the hot tub is a great addition!

Come and stay in our beautifully finished, tin shepherds hut at the bottom of our garden. We are located in the rolling countryside with extensive views over the vale of York. After a day of exploring this AONB, there’s nothing like cooking tea over the fire pit followed by a dip under the stars in our rustic hot tub. Fall into a fresh clean bed and wake up to the sound of the dawn chorus. Our bathroom barn provides all your needs for a morning freshen up! See you soon.
The name "The Hut In The Wild" is just our name for the hut. The hut is located on our property at the bottom of our garden not in the wild. It is a beautiful shepherds hut in a gorgeous area with a fantastic view over the fields and hills. Experience a little wild living, cook on a fire pit and soak in a rustic wood fired hot tub.
We are set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and literally located at the end of a lane in a farming hamlet and look out onto fields where the many foothpaths start. Close by is the fantastic Yearsley woods which is great for walking, running, horse riding and biking. Further afield towards the coast you will find Dalby Forest which provides bikers with a choice of green, red and blue tracks! If you want to cycle or venture off in the car there are many places to visit...Castle Howard, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Terrace. Helmsley, Malton, Pickering, Easingwold and Thirsk are our local market towns full of places to eat and drink and a chance to pick up some nibbles. We don’t have a pub in our hamlet but there are plenty on offer a short drive away. The Durham Ox in Crayke and The Fairfax Arms in Gilling are lovely gastro pubs. Or you can opt for a more informal pub in Sheriff Hutton, The Highwayman or The White Bear in Stillington where you can get quite a hearty meal! Hope this helps in planning your stay.
  • What a wonderful place Susi has. It feels like a real escape from the outside world. Lovely views and such a peaceful location. Lovely touches like fresh bread, eggs, jam, tea, coffee... perfect! Great hot tub too and brilliantly rustic all of it! Very thoughtfully done. Would recommend to anyone looking to get away from it all!

    Ben2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a hidden gem. The Hut in the Wild is perfect. Susi has thought of everything, and the wood fired hot tub was absolutely amazing.

    Philip2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot put into words how amazing this place is you just have to go! Me and my partner absolutely loved every minute of being at the hut in the wild and we will be returning!! Thank you

    Becky2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a quaint little spot that looked over a lovely stretch of countryside. The hut is perfectly equipped for everything you need. And the bed is soooo comfy! The hot tub was not quite up and going when we arrived which was a shame not to get into it in the day light - but was scorching and ready to go as Susi described three hours later. We enjoyed a very comfortable stay (even with the furious wind!) and would definately recommend!

    Amy2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely Airbnb! Attention to detail and added touches made it feel so homely. Bread, butter, jam, eggs, milk & juice were provided for breakfast! We appreciated the hot water bottles and slippers. Susi kept the hot tub going for us and it was boiling, despite the weather. Hopefully will return in the warmer months!!

    Daisy2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Susi was quick to respond to any queries I had and was able to put up ‘Happy Birthday’ bunting for my partner. Everything in the hut is well thought out and the eggs, bread, milk, butter and jam are perfect for breakfast. We were able to enjoy the hot tub even in the drizzle as it was piping hot. It was a perfect private retreat and I’m sure I’ll be returning some time in the future.

    Hannah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A huge thank you for our stay, the birthday bunting and the little extras. We had a lovely stay and thoroughly enjoyed the view from the hot tub. We will hope to return in the warmer months 🌞

    Verity2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • An amazing stay away for a night, a perfect get away for some space from busy life. How rural it was made it extra special, very quiet and the hut itself was stunning. The hot tub was amazing, will be back in warmer months to experience it again but it warmed up well especially in the bad weather! Couldnt recommend the place enough, and susie was a fabulous host. Thanks again!

  • The hut is in a fantastic rural location surrounded by beautiful countryside. The hut has many homely touches and croissants freshly delivered every morning is fantastic The wood fired hot tub is superb, it gets really hot and it was great sitting out and enjoying the stars looking so great as there is barely any light pollution. The fire pit and picnic tables add to the feel of the great outdoors even in February! We would highly recommend a stay at the hut.

My place is situated on the edge of this picturesque village green with duck pond and maypole. 20 minutes from York and Harrogate. You’ll love Garden Cottage because of its view over the beautiful garden. The village has great country walks and good access including rail to York and surrounding towns. The Cottage has a super king comfy bed, the kitchen has fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Excellent pub within 2 minutes walk.
I provide Wheetabix, Cornflakes, semi skimmed milk, tea, coffee and sugar.
Our village has no through traffic which is extra special and quiet. The cottages surround the village green with a duck pond and maypole. We have an excellent pub The Alice Hawthorn which people travel far and wide to visit. It is better to book Tel: ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). Just to let you know The Alice is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We have a Thai restaurant next the the garage at the top of the road A59 and also a Farm Shop which provides delicious breakfasts and lunches. There are menus in Garden cottage.

  • Excellent little cottage for two people. Kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom/dining area with tv. We took PS4 to watch Netflix and the wifi worked fine. Lovely picturesque village with walks and a great local pub/restaurant. Great host, Gillian who responded to every query almost immediately. Short drive to Chinese restaurant Sweet Basil which was very good. Also nearby train station of Hammerton which was a quick and convenient way of getting to York for the day. Overall, excellent and would stay again.

    Greg2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cottage is so cosy, the location is perfect. We went to the vineyard which is worth a visit. Gillian is a fab host and responses very quickly. The local pub food is amazing, very friendly, welcoming staff. Would recommend this place is visiting Knarsborough or York.

  • Gillians place is beautiful. The cottage is clean, private, warm and cosy, in a perfect location. The place is in a quiet and peaceful village between York and Harrogate, which we found fine (in the dark) thanks to Gillians great directions. • The Shepard’s Hut is a little oasis on the grounds of an Old Mill. It really puts the glamour into glamping. The fire kept me warm all throughout New Year’s Eve. It’s the perfect retreat for a short break. Paul and Maggi’s hospitality is second to none. They are thoughtful and the little hamper was a wonderful bonus. Fantastic communication and plenty of info of the local area. The wildlife is beautiful and there are plenty of walks nearby (and if you’re in a car you can easily get to North Yorkshire and York). Take a good book and some nice wine and snuggle in with the fire. You couldn’t really ask for more. Highly recommended.

  • We spent a weekend at Paul's hut despite the wet weather we had a lovely stay nice and peaceful brilliant hosts who leave you to enjoy the space but on hand if needed. Welcome hamper a lovely touch would visit again

  • This place is an absolute gem! Not only were Paul and Maggie wonderful hosts, (good communication and some great recommendations/information about the local area) but the place itself was stunning - pictures do not do it justice. Extra touches like the welcome hamper made it all the more special. Thank you and will hopefully be back soon!

We welcome guests to this homely, two bedroom cottage, with small private patio situated in a rural village between the Yorkshire Moors and Dales. The historic city of York is nearby, with good transport links. This is an ideal location for walkers, cyclists and tourists.
These converted stables provide a cosy two bedroom cottage with low beamed ceilings. There is a kitchen, diner, living room area, one double bedroom, twin bedroom and a shower room. The kitchen area includes a fridge, hob, microwave/convention oven and washing machine. There is a table with settings for four, a TV, small sofa and comfy chair. Outside the property there is a patio area with table and chairs.
Stillington is a picturesque Yorkshire village, with an active community. There is a small post office/village shop run by the community, within a five minute walk. The village has two pubs which serve food, an indian restaurant and a fish and chip shop. There is a children's play area a short walk away from the cottage.
  • A cosy cottage in a nice village, close to both York and to access the wider area. Malcolm and Margaret were very friendly hosts, and always helpful. The cakes on arrival were particularly appreciated and enjoyed. The cottage had all we needed and there is also a very nice pub, the White Bear a few mins walk away - been in the Good Beer Guide for ten years now. Nice homely place.

  • Cosy place, lovely hosts next door (helpful and unobtrusive). Great location for visiting York and the North York Moors (Rievaulx Abbey well worth a visit), recommended.

  • Our stay at the Cherry Tree Corner Cottage, Stillington, exceded our expectations. Malcolm and Margaret's communication before we arrived was great, giving easy to follow directions and taxi numbers as needed. The cottage itself was clean, comfortable and well equipped. There were thoughtful touches throughout that all added up to us feel welcomed and cared for. There was even an outdoor seating area that I hadn't realised was part of the place. Malcolm and Margaret were there on hand next door if needed but the place was self-contained so you were able to switch off and relax and do your own thing. I would really recommend this place.

    Zoe2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Malcolm and Margaret are fantastic hosts. They made us feel so welcome - with a home made cake, popping in to introduce themselves and going out of their way to make us feel relaxed. Very grateful for a wonderful stay.

  • Lovely stay and the Tea Loaf was beautiful x

    Gareth2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a wonderful two nights at Malcolm and Margaret 's cottage and couldn't have asked for a more pleasant time. The hospitality was superb and the personal touches, including the delicious cake, were lovely. Everything was as listed and the beds were really comfortable. The whole cottage was bright and clean and had we have experienced better weather, we would have loved to have spent the evening sitting outside in the private patio area. The bus stop was right outside and took us 40 mins straight into York city centre, for just £3.60. We highly recommend staying here and hope to return ourselves one day soon.

    David2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Malcolm and Margaret are very welcoming, we loved the delicious cake - thank you. The cottage was perfect for our trip to Yorkshire for a friend's wedding. Highly recommend the cottage and location.

This small farmhouse is 230 years old and there are two bedrooms available with shared access to the rest of the house. There is plenty of parking and everything is very relaxed. Unusually we have a gym in an adjacent building and you are most welcome. Whatever you need - just ask and I will try to make it happen.
You are welcome to use the kitchen(responsibly) - I can buy-in what you may like for Breakfast and you are welcome to make drinks and help to feel at home.

  • If you are planning to visit Yorkshire, this is the place to be. John's house is located around 10 miles from the city of York in a cute little town called Stillington. We loved the idea of being in the country, but very close to the city we were visiting. At night you could visit the local pub, where the owner would tell you the long history of the pub and the town. As to John's place, we had the best experience. The room is beautiful and big, with a private bathroom. We had access to the entire house, and regularly prepared breakfast and dinner. What made this place very special was John. He is an exceptional host, who made us feel at home. He was always going the extra mile to make our stay wonderful. Thank you John, you are the best!

  • John was the most amazing host and his company made my trip to Yorkshire so much more enjoyable. The room was lovely and the bed very comfortable. John was very accommodating by letting me check in late at night and even offered to make me dinner after I had a busy day. Will definitely be back to visit!

    Courtney2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • John's place is very nice. You feel very comfortable. We had no issues at all. John is a kind person who gives you good advise. It's definitely a top AirBnB place. It's especially perfect if you travel by car. You either get quickly into York or you can drive to the coast.

  • John is a very kind and welcoming host. The place is very peaceful and calm. He made us feel like home with the hospitality. Offered us variety of breakfast(s) and was very kind to write down the itinerary and directions, which were really helpful when we went to remote places without a GPS and Mobile signal. Highly recommend for someone preferring to visit North Yorkshire.

The barn has two sets of bi-fold doors leading out onto a large raised deck facing into woodland, which is screened off for privacy. There is an external dining area for guest use, a gas barbecue and a private gravelled parking area adjacent for guests to use. There is a full kitchen and a warm stylish wet room. Externally there is a privacy screened hot tub. All rooms are underfloor heated for comfort .
The Barn is located in a particularly quiet location within the Howardian Hills, (an area of outstanding natural beauty) and within the North York Moors National Park. There are a wide range of activities and gorgeous places to visit, most only a short drive away ie: Helmsley with its castle and a wide range of shops and coffee shops - 6 miles. The market town of Easingwold has several nice coffee shops and a range of small supermarkets - 8 miles. Malton has a comprehensive offering of stores and holds regular food festivals - 8 miles. Thirsk is a busy market town with a full range of retail offerings - 10 miles. The beauty of Castle Howard is well worth a visit - 9 miles. The historic city of York (arguably the prettiest city in England) is a must with its Roman, Viking and medieval historical beauty and a wide range of museums and galleries as well as a wide range of retail stores - 16 miles.
  • Lovely hosts, the lodge was warm, clean, and felt just like home. Everything was thought of from hangers to makeup remover to butter and milk. The personal touches were lovely and would definitely recommend.

  • We were already excited to stay here after reading the reviews and seeing the photos but we were still so much more impressed when we got here - the location is perfect, the house is sparkling clean and so nice!Keith and Melanie made us feel at home so much and the personal touch with the sign for our anniversary and rose petals upstairs were such a lovely extra touch! We walked to the Fairfax Arms after it was suggested and it was a lovely walk and not too far! The hot tub was the icing on the cake, with the fairy lights and looking out into the woodland - it was the perfect atmosphere for a getaway! Definitely recommend - I’ve already had friends ask me for the name of this place after seeing photos - we would absolutely return again! :)

    Heather2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect little getaway for a girly weekend or romantic break. Melanie was a great host and very welcoming. Would 100% stay again.

    Vanessa2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Wow, words and pictures can not justify such an amazing retreat! Absolutely took our breathe away and adventures kept our kids (8&12) entertained and away from the electronic devices! Can not recommend enough!

    Darryl2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect accommodation, we planned on going out for the days we stayed but lounged around the entire time due to the chilled surroundings. When arriving Melanie greeted us and was very welcoming, the personal touches were brilliant. The barn is very stylish and comfortable. The hot tub is amazing. We will most definitely be staying again.

    James2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for having us! Deffo recommend such a cute special getaway and Melanie was so kind to add special touches of balloons and Prosecco for valentines and my partners birthday so thankyou for going the extra mile we appreciate it! A lovely relaxing place and not too far from York for food/drinks/shops but far enough away in the woods for a quiet peaceful getaway! Thankyou from both of us!

    Faith2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Thankyou for a wonderful stay in your gorgeous barn, we really enjoyed our relaxing stay!

    Sophie2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay, lots of nice finishing touches. Set on a nice and quiet lane away from any noise you can really relax here. Could not find fault in anything.

The York garden house stands under a oak tree in our garden, with private entrance. Their is a outdoor fire area where you can toast marshmallows. We also have a glass roofed undercover seating area which is connected to our house and can be used on request (to enjoy a takeaway from the village)The garden room is very private and is entirely yours. It is a small, cosy & warm. There are electric radiators and its cosy on winter nights. It has two small single beds. Log burner is for aesthetics.
York Garden House is a corner summer house with one main room. There are low ceilings between the bedroom and shower room. There are two small single beds (70 x 180 cm), electric radiator and internet tv, wifi and ethernet. Then there is a small lobby to make a drink, leading to the shower room. There is a toilet, sink and thermostatic shower. It has its own hot water supply. The space is cosy and comfortable. May not be suitable for really tall people because of the size of the beds and the low ceilings. The log burner is mainly for aesthetics but the electric radiators are more than enough to heat the building. It is in our garden but we respect your privacy. We are happy to help in any way we can so you can make the most of your time in York. You are welcome to use our outdoor fire area to chill out on night. We have a outdoor dinning table under a glass roof that can be used to eat one of the many takeaways available in the village (just ask). Parking for one car on our drive and more cars on the street.
The garden house is in a good location with york 5 miles away and busses running every 12 mins during the day, every 30 mins at night to the city centre (every 20 mins during the day on Sunday). The bus stop is a 3 min walk from our house. Their is also a park and ride 10 minutes drive away at monks cross which can be used to also access york. Their is parking in york city centre and taxi services. The North Yorkshire Moors is just over half an hour away and is a great place to explore and walk. Haxby was originally a Viking village. It has excellent local facilities. Their are bakeries, along with award winning bread from “Haxby bake house”. Their are 2 supermarkets, shops, bank, post office with currency exchange, pubs for a traditional Yorkshire pudding Sunday dinner, restaurants like “Paddyfields” with a high class menu with cocktail bar round the corner, takeaways, haxby award winning fish and chip shop, coffe shops, doc surgery, and pharmacies. We are a family of 5, we home educate our 3 boys and love to travel as much as we can. We have stayed in many air bnbs and was inspired by some of the amazing cultural experiences we have had as a family and so the seed was planted for us to set up our own garden room to also share the area we enjoy living in and are happy to call home. We are new to air bnb and have worked as a family to create the york garden house, we are really pleased with what we have created and hope you enjoy your stay.
  • Great accommodation. It was very cosy and warm, we loved it. Space to park car on the drive or on the road. Some thoughtful touches like toiletries, umbrella and a hairdryer. Was about a 15 minute drive to York. Haxby was lovely, restaurants, pubs and take-aways within walking distance, we had a fish and chip take-away there one night, was delicious (especially the curry sauce!) . Accommodation had a smart tv and Netflix which was useful. Thank you very much :)

  • Immense hospitality, Vanessa and her husband are among the best hosts I’ve been with, everything you’d expect from a super host who earned the ratings, always going the extra mile, and the garden house itself was super! Very cozy, great place to stay.

    Alexander2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Garden House was perfect for my brother and I, as we were visiting family nearby for Christmas. We only needed a spillover bedroom space so this was ideal. The room is cosy and we were surprised how warm and well insulated it is. The bathroom also is really well-fitted and was over our expectations. The access was super easy as we just checked ourselves in and out with a code. We didn’t meet our hosts but Vanessa was super responsive with messages. The beds were comfy and I’m quite tall and had no issue apart from needing to duck to go through the bathroom doorway. The shower was great with nice hot water and good pressure. The tv with access to films was fab and made settling in for the night very cosy and relaxing. The internet connection was also good. There is no space for much stuff so it’s fine if you’re travelling light or just a short stopover. Very cosy and nice, will be back for sure next time we need to visit the family.

It’s a place you can feel at home when your away from home. Great style and clean and safe and they let you feel like your at your home. Very willing to give advice or help and even will bring your order take out to you.

  • Lovely little cabin warm as toast in there. Very enjoyable weekend close to park and ride recommend

    Carole2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay if you are planning to spend some days in York! Very reasonable price with outstanding facilities!

    Laura2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • It is exactly as seen in the pictures yet so much more! Think a cosy, warm cabin with all the mod-cons you'd need. The added touches, from directions and guides to places to eat to blankets to cutlery and crockery, mean so much and make you want for nothing. The log burner is something else but don't worry if you don't want to use it - the heating is more than powerful enough. The shower is also second to none. All in all it's a cosy, super comfortable getaway and I'd definitely return 😊

The Retreat is set in a rural location and has lots of original features with a modern feel. With ample off road parking and close to the Stillington-Easingwold road its the perfect base to come back to after a visit to the many local attractions. The market town of Easingwold is 2 miles away and the City of York is 12 miles. The North York moors are close to hand and if you fancy venturing further you have the coast and the Yorkshire dales

  • Booked the accommodation for part of a birthday week. The room is stunning and well decorated and modern. It was lovely to be greeted by a beautiful dog, who was extremely friendly. Lovely thoughtful touches, we were provided with a packet of crisps and biscuits. A cafetiere was also provided! Extensive information guide including recommendations for places to eat, bus times and taxis, etc. The room is absolutely spotless! Love the addition of the park at the rear. Had a great night sleep. Would definitely recommend anything area stay again.

  • Fantastic place hidden away just outside of York. We are from York ourselves but found it perfect to have a night away from our home renovation project. It has a fantastic link to the city centre via bus just down the road which we used to our advantage to have a few drink. It was nice to feel like tourists in our own city. The bath is a great touch and we slept well. Thanks for having us and we will be back. Matt and Jade x

  • A lovely cottage in a beautiful quiet village location. The cottage was very comfortable and clean - with lovely comfortable beds. Very warm and snug with plenty of hot water. Lots to do in the area. York centre very easy to get to.

  • We stayed here with our 7 month baby as a 2 night stop over on the way to Glasgow from London. The cottage was super clean and a lovely place to rest up on our journey. The surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous. Wish we’d been there in time on Saturday to buy a few cakes from the local bakery van! The cottage was very warm with plenty of logs/ kindling for the log burner, which made the living room extra cosy. The kitchen had everything we needed. We arrived at 17:30 on a Saturday without doing a shop before hand. Fortunately the village shop 1.5 miles away in Tollerton was open until 6pm for a few essentials. However if planning to arrive in the evening, I’d recommend bringing milk, bread etc as the nearest supermarket is 8 miles away.

  • We had such a great stay at Stephen and Rachel’s cottage. It has everything you would need for a comfortable stay, very clean and is in a lovely village location about 20mins from York. We had two small children with us and it’s a very child friendly cottage with stair gates and a lovely room on the third floor complete with soft toys and books. I would definitely recommend anyone to hire this cottage.

Other lovely places to visit, such as Harrogate and the market towns of Ripon and Helmsley, are also in the area. We are a 30 minute drive from the historic City of York. We are in a great location for cycling, hiking and dog walking.
  • My husband and I booked quite last minute and were really pleasantly surprised. We had our dog with us and the hosts made us feel so welcome. There were lots of useful touches such as a dog towel, home made flap jacks (delicious), both milk and water in the silent fridge. We also had a yummy breakfast waiting for us in the morning. We slept really well and had a great stay. I strongly recommend this place. Many thanks!

  • Neil goes the extra mile with lots of extras provided. Snacks on arrival and a great breakfast selection the following morning Although there is only a bedroom it is very well equipped and spacious. Plenty of light, plugs and mirrors which is a welcome change! The bed was extremely comfortable, with a choice of pillows. The shower room is compact but the facilities are excellent. The whole place is spotlessly clean, 5 stars!

  • Honestly this was the most perfect place to stay for a getaway. So many local places to visit and so close to York whether driving or using a park and ride. I cannot fault the house at all, it was sparkling clean, was decorated lovely and had everything you needed and more inside. Pascale and her husband were amazing hosts, nothing seemed too much and they were there for any questions we had at any time. They made us feel very welcome and relaxed. Cannot wait to come back again when the sun is shining and make use of the beautiful garden.

  • This is an excellent room. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We received great communication from the owner. The breakfast provisions were really tasty and thoughtful. We had the company of a friendly cat which we loved as we are cat lovers ourselves. The location was good for getting into York. There is also a fantastic cinema nearby which we visited because of rainy weather. The seats are only £4.99 with leg room and reclining. The Indian restaurant in Haxby was friendly and with great food.

Nestled in the countryside just outside York, 'The Kennel' is a relaxing and peaceful retreat. Recently refurbished, this small but perfectly formed self-contained annex is set in three acres of newly planted woodland, garden, small orchard, wildlife pond and apiary housing up to 8 beehives which provide us with some delicious honey. To the rear of the property is a new, self-built distillery which launched its award-winning gin in May 2018, and is now distilling whisky.
This is an immaculate, small self-contained apartment (adjacent to our home) within easy reach of country pubs, shops and restaurants. It has one double bedroom, bathroom with shower, a cosy living room with electric fire, quiet study space, utility room and a fully equipped kitchen with dining table. There is a washing machine and drier which is available to use free of charge for guests who are staying for 7 days or more ONLY. For shorter stays, the use of these facilities will incur an additional charge and laundry products will be provided on request. It is important that guests only use the laundry products provided as we use a water-treatment system and the use of inappropriate products can cause damage. Linen and towels are provided for your convenience and you can enjoy complimentary tea and coffee together with breakfast goods. We welcome friendly people of all ages and invite you to unwind and soak up some nature. In the Spring and Summer months there is a gazebo and very comfortable garden furniture to enjoy some relaxation. A chiminea and BBQ are available on request. Look out for our local wildlife including foxes, hedgehogs, woodpeckers, pheasants and partridges. You may even catch a glimpse of visiting Barn and Tawny Owls. Buzzards can sometimes be seen quartering over the fields and we welcome back the Swallows who nest here each Spring. We are a dog-friendly property and can cater for up to two well behaved dogs in our enclosed outdoor dog paddock. Please notify us at the time of booking if you intend bringing your dog. There's plenty of room for them to run about and play in their own paddock or with our three Basset Hounds in the newly-planted woodland. If bringing a dog(s), please bring their bedding, towels, bowls etc with you. DISCLAIMER AND INDEMNITY No responsibility is accepted by Pauline or Graham Neilson (hosts) for any injury, loss or damage to any person staying in our home or any such person's guests (together guests), and in staying here, all guests agree jointly and severally to indemnify each host to the fullest extent permitted by law, against any injury, loss or damage caused to any host or his/her property during the period of any such guests' stay here, save to the extent any such injury, loss or damage was caused directly by the relevant host's fraud or wilful misconduct.
Conveniently located between two lovely villages, Sutton-on-the-Forest and Stillington (both approximately 1 mile), you have access to local shops, pubs and restaurants but you will need a car or bicycle as we are not on a direct bus route and there are no footpaths. We are, however, happy to take our guests to the bus stop in the village when we are available should you need us. During the run up to Christmas there are lots of seasonal offerings in the locality, one of the most popular being the St Nicholas Christmas Fayre in York City Centre. This attracts people from all over the country and gets bigger and better every year. We recommend our guests make use of the park and ride service at this busy time with parking being at a premium. The Georgian market town of Easingwold is only a five mile drive away and home to independent cafés, bakeries, gift shops and a market every Friday selling local produce and crafts. Just beyond us lie the Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The city of York is only a 20 minute car or bus journey and is crammed full of visitor attractions such as York Minster and the City Walls, the Yorvik Centre, York Dungeons, National Railway Museum and the stunning Museum Gardens. The famous quirky cobbled streets of Whip-Ma-Whop-Ma-Gate and The Shambles provide a wealth of boutique shops and cafes. Historic local visitor attractions include Sutton Park stately home and gardens, Helmsley Castle, Sheriff Hutton Castle, Ampleforth Abbey and the famous Castle Howard (home to Brideshead Revisited) and Nunnington Hall. Visit the abbey ruins at Byland and Rievaulx and the World Heritage site at Fountains Abbey. Take a trip to the coast and the traditional resorts at Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington or enjoy the stunning scenery of the North Yorkshire Moors from the famous steam train which travels from Pickering to the fishing port of Whitby. Horse racing can be found at Thirsk, Ripon and York. Gliding at Sutton Bank and family fun at Flamingo Land. Walkers and cyclists will enjoy a range of local countryside routes. The North York Moor National Park is 20 minutes by car and the beautiful Dalby Forest (one hour drive) is home to many walking and cycling tracks and the popular Go Ape Treetop Adventure.
  • Pauline and Graham were delightful hosts, who provided a superior welcome treat of freshly baked bread and a homemade cake. The place was really lovely and comfortable. The gas fire in the living room was cosy and it was great to have a full kitchen. The onsite gin and whiskey distillery was an unexpected treat! The bed was very comfy and the vast amount of storage space meant we could unpack and feel at home even for a short stay. We look forward to a return trip at some point in the future.

  • Firstly, the Kennels has everything you could possibly want from an Airbnb stay. Pauline and Graham are such welcoming and warm friendly hosts with such a lovely space to relax that feels like a home from home. You couldn’t want for a cleaner place to stay. The kitchen is more than fully equipped With everything you might need and the fresh bread and cake was such a treat - we demolished the lot! Pauline welcomed us to the Kennels and showed us round, she went out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, including space, a cot, extra towels and toys for our 9month little boy. The space outside was perfect for our dog, Ollie, to roam and play - he was also made to feel super welcome. I can’t say thank you enough for making our stay so easy and relaxed...and we also learnt a little about bees too.

  • The studio was perfect for what we needed. We wanted an overnight stay for a celebration nearby, where we could pop into York if we wanted to. We are a family of 4 and all stayed in the one room just fine. Laura was very friendly and assisted us when we needed it as she is close by. She'd left biscuits, tea, coffee and milk sachets which was a lovely touch as we hadn't brought anything with it being such a short stay. The studio is modern, beautifully decorated and well laid out.

  • We’ve just returned from a wonderful weekend staying in Anne’s place. Anne was very good in keeping in touch and asked early on how we wanted the house set up. The house is very spacious and we were there with our daughter, son-in-law and 2 grandsons and the accommodation was perfect for us all. It is well situated for the park and ride into York where there is so much to do especially when it is windy and raining! Will certainly look to return again. A wonderful break.

Although situated centrally in the village it is remarkably quiet whilst, at the same time, being only a stones throw from all the village amenities. Thoroughly recommended!!!

  • We loved our stay at Lara's. It was very clean, cozy and special: just like in the pictures. Lara left us cookies, tea, coffee and chocolates, and even a Christmas tree. The place is located in a village about 15min away from the Park and Ride; and that in turn takes about 15min to get into York very easily. We definetely recommend this place!

  • You will have a wonderful stay. The room is exceptionally comfortable and you will want to take you time using the luxurious bathing facilities. The hospitality is extra special with the addition of the courtesy drop off to your local event. The breakfast was amazing with some much choice it will give you the best start possible to enjoy your day out. We would highly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting York.

  • What a wonderful place to stay! Anthea and Bill were amazing hosts. The accommodation was spotless, comfortable and completely private. Breakfast was to die for and there was plenty of healthy choices in the breakfast menu. We were so happy with them, that we intend to go back to York for Christmas and stay with them again. We can not recommend this place highly enough. It surpassed everything we expected. 11/10

  • We had a wonderful stay and Anthea and Bill's home. They were incredibly welcoming and friendly; they really kindly dropped us off in York during the middle of storm Dennis! The room was really clean, comfortable bed and contained lots of information on things to do in the area. Bath in the bathroom was amazing!

    Rachel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely warm welcome by Anthea, Bill and their two friendly dogs. Comfortable room and bathroom and everything you could want at breakfast. Will definitely return in the future.

    Helen2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Friendly hosts in a very nice house, breakfast was brilliant, bills porridge very special. Two lovely friendly dogs . Well worth a visit

    Keith2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • What super hosts! Andrea goes out of the way to make you feel totally at home in her wonderful space (and amazing bath!). The curd tarts and toiletries plus a freshly cooked hot meal in the morning is an incredible touch. Additionally, being dropped off at our event quite late in the evening was a god send and something not many people would do for strangers. Our stay was super comfortable and relaxing and we will for sure stay again when we are in the area. The dogs also make your stay even better!

The village boasts one of the last 2 remaining working greens in the country, a populated duck pond, an impressive 27 metre Maypole and the beautiful parish church of St. Mary's (A grade1 listed building dating back to the 12th century, St Mary's church boasts a stained glass window by William Morris which is worth a visit if you have the time). • Amazing hosts. Sarah and Richard were brilliant. Warm, welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Perfect location for York, Harrogate and Knaresborough. Lovely little village, a proper taste of Yorkshire. The place itself is beautiful. Clean, modern, well equipped. Lovely open plan space and the fire is amazing, especially at this time of year. Next time we are in the area we will definitely stay here again. The best air bnb we’ve stayed in

    David2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Carlton Barn had everything we could have possibly wanted for a short break away. Comfy bed, cosy living area, beautiful interior, and spotlessly clean. It was stunning!

    Jackie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very relaxing and comfortable barn! So well decorated and clean! Would recommend!

    Sam2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Superb place to stay! We really enjoyed a very relaxing weekend. Sarah is a great host and Carlton Barn is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. Would definitely recommend!

    Caroline2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Carlton Barn is a stunning conversion, it’s super stylish and very homely. It’s really well placed for a touristy trip to York or a great place to stay in and get away from it all. Sarah was the perfect hostess and made us feel very welcome indeed.

    Keith2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the best value for money Air BnB I've ever experienced! Everything is immaculate and the property itself is something out of an interior design magazine. The location is great for a trip away together and Sarah was very warm and welcoming. No qualms at all, best air bnb I've been to!

    Samantha2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Let me start with my closing comment... to anyone reading this, stay here! This is, without a doubt, one of the most unique and rare finds in the middle of one of the most beautiful counties in England. The space is stylish, clean, atmospheric, with vintage touches and a real sense of class. Being able to light a real lot fire in the countryside is both romantic and everything that you would hope for in a countryside cottage. It would easy to write far more words, each positive about this exceptional property, but what I would rather do is recommend this stay, not only because of the cottage itself, but rather of the host, Sarah. :) i have not had a stay where someone has been so thoughtful and so detailed. Thank you Sarah!

    Alina2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The best AirBnB I’ve stayed in by a mile. The barn has been decorated beautifully, really stylish and loads of cool/thoughtful touches. I will definitely be stealing some decor ideas for my own place! The bathrooms were extremely clean and modern, and the shower in the en-suite is one you won’t want to get out of. The kitchen was spotless and really well equipped, it had everything we needed to make a couple of meals during our stay. I also had the best sleep I’ve had for months under that duvet. We loved using the log fire in the evening to give us that extra bit of warmth. Richard and Sarah’s communications were great throughout. Unfortunately the Alice Hawthorne pub was closed for our visit but Sarah recommended some great alternatives. They were also very accommodating by giving us a later checkout. We did have a couple of issues during our stay. The WiFi was down for the best part of a day, but that can’t be helped and tbh, we quite enjoyed not having our phones to look at for a few hours. We also got locked in the bedroom for 10 mins due to the doorknob coming loose, but Richard was really apologetic and sorted the problem. I would recommend anyone looking at visiting the area to stay here. It’s the perfect place to spend a few days relaxing. We did not want to leave!

Our Lodge is a complete labour of love. A lovely relaxing space in a tranquil setting. We are a family of 4 with 2 dogs and chickens. Our lovely Lodge is in our garden, up some steps before you enter your own private area with large fenced garden. Totally yours. So peaceful. The Lodge has a kitchen area, log burning stove, 2 comfy armchairs, table and 2 chairs and a double bed. A small door leads to the bathroom, lovely warm towels and underfloor heating. Relaxing the nation, 2 at a time!
It's a unique space in our garden but totally separate from us. Allowing total peace and privacy. Fully enclosed large garden. Unspoilt views of the Howardian Hills. Great star gazing and sunsets.
It's amazing! We love it here. Wellies often required if you are going walking in surrounding fields :-))
  • Absolutely perfect stay. Couldn’t have asked for anything else. Beautiful setting with everything you need in the cabin. Awesome place to take the dog with fields to walk and an enclosed private garden to allow them to be safe and secure. We had a fantastic stay! :)

  • Martin and Bea are fantastic hosts, they were extrememly welcoming and thoughtful preparing the wood burning stove for our arrival, and their fresh hens eggs are fab! The lodge is wonderfully cosy, clean, and had everything we could need for our stay. Martin and Bea were very accomodating when we were a little late in leaving, and we will definitely hope to return.

  • The Lodge at Skewsby is a truly wonderful place. Set in idyllic countryside with amazing walks right on the door step. Martin and Bea are the perfect hosts, very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. This is by far the best lodge we have stayed in, they really have thought of everything to make it a perfect escape.

  • Everything about our stay was perfect. Martin and Bea were wonderful hosts, very friendly and helpful. After a long day arriving with the fire already burning was a lovely surprise, the Lodge was cosy and comfortable, very relaxing. And the large garden was amazing for our two dogs, fully enclosed and safe. Could not recommend visiting here enough and hoping we will be back soon!

    Nick2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • My friends and I came for a weekend escape from London and had the most amazing time! Jo was such a thoughtful and attentive host. The place itself was outstanding - clean, quiet, the beds were so comfy and the bath was amazing. We’d come back in a heartbeat, thank you so much!

  • Amazing cottage and brilliant hosts - highly recommended

    Andrew2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Certainly the most luxurious and stylish Airbnb we have ever stayed in! It’s beautiful - as well as being so warm and comfortable - the log burner and roll top bath with views of sunset skies were a great treat. Joanna is a fantastic helpful host and left a wonderful cake and other delights. The surrounding countryside is stunning and York is a short drive away. I loved waking up, opening the window and listening to the sound of a babbling brook in the back garden! Thank you Joanna!

    Sue2019-10-14T00:00:00Z
  • An outstanding Air b and b .......stylish, super comfortable, peaceful and a real pleasure to be in. An ideal location for exploring Yorkshire but equally the Cottage offers so much that it is a pleasure just to spend time in it! Joanna and Phil are great hosts who have thought of everything in order to make your stay extra special - thank you!

    Jill2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely weekend at the cottage. We can't recommend the cottage highly enough. It has a perfect mix of traditional features and contemporary design. Jo and Phil are the perfect hosts. They have thought of everything, from touches such as a delicious home-baked cake to a tasty bottle of wine! The cottage is pure luxury! We have already re-booked to stay again, the cottage is genuinely a 10 out of 10. Thanks again, Nick, Aimee and Henry!

    Nick2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Well, Seaves Mill looked fab on Airbnb and it really is. A really stylish and incredibly comfortable house in a location where there is lots to see and do in the area, yet so peaceful. Many extra touches and lovely hosts. Spotlessly clean too - you really couldn’t find anything better.

    Rachel2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Joanna and Phil have created a beautiful and tranquil space in Seaves Mill, which exceeded our expectations in every way. Both living space and gardens were immaculate and inviting; this made it difficult to explore the surrounding area as we didn't want to leave the premises. The attention to detail in the furnishings and decor is second to none and the additional touches such as the food hamper and toiletries were above and beyond. However, nothing was more inviting than the beds and bathrooms; both were luxurious and exceptionally comfy. Joanna was always on hand to answer any queries we had but ensured we had our privacy at all times. We cannot recommend Seaves Mill highly enough, thank you both for a tremendous stay!

  • Absolutely amazing stay. I organised a long weekend away here, for my my wife's 30th birthday. She loved it!!!! Pure luxury, character, and just an all round beautiful home. The hot tub was fantastic on a cold weekend and the house was so warm and inviting. We ate at a local English pub which was fantastic. Lucy messaged us to give us an extended check out which was amazing given it was a stormy Sunday when we were leaving. We had such a relaxing time! So many beautiful touches including the chess board, the record player, the gin, and all the Yorkshire tea and lollies. Lucy and Ben were very welcoming, good communicators and made the weekend a fantastic trip away. Thank you!

  • Beautiful apartment, very clean, interesting village. Angela was very helpful providing extras we needed such as cot and low chair. There was even some milk, bread and a bottle of wine when we got there.

    Ben2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 2 nights over valentines day and this stylish little getaway massively exceeded our expectations. When we arrived the flat was spotless and even more gorgeous than it looks in the photos. Angela had put out a vase of fresh roses for us and stocked up on essentials like tea/ coffee/ sugar/ milk as well as cereal and a loaf of bread with butter and jam for our breakfast. The bathroom is heavenly, we each had long showers in the morning and the temperature and pressure stayed perfect for both of us. The bed is incredible, the most comfortable nights sleep I've had in a long time. The village it's self is beautiful and well positioned for days out in harrogate and York and the pub round the corner does amazing food, I'd thoroughly recommend booking a table if you stay here. Plenty of plug sockets, fast wifi, huge TV for movie nights and a stunning location. This should be SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than it is, can't recommend it enough! Thank you Angela!
