  • A fabulous, gem of a property! Stylish converted stables is this bothy. So unique, I shall definitely be coming here again. Stylishly decorated modern fixtures, contemporary yet in keeping to the county feel. Good heating and a well equipped kitchen. Ample storage. Peaceful setting set in the beautiful landscaped grounds of the owner's property. Delightful, helpful hosts at hand, Marion and Geoff, next to the bothy yet not intrusive. Thoughtful complimentary milk eggs, bacon, scones, butter, juice and jams on arrival. We'll sticked on hot beverages. Adore the plants ( artificial, yet convincingly real) in the house gives you that homely feel. Especially the huge orchid in the bedroom.. Spotlessly clean. Even provided with further blanket ( merino wool) for when sitting outside on the garden bistro dining table. Outside comfy chairs come with padding. Sheer bliss! Ideal for 1 or 2 people. Can't thank you enough. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I had a wonderful stay. A huge thanks. Sheena B Jan 2020

This delightful Grade II listed cottage nestling in the picturesque Peak District benefits from being only a few steps away from the village store, tearoom & some cracking pubs! Cycle on the Monsal Trail or walk in the stunning grounds at Chatsworth House, both are easily accessible and glorious views await. A visit to the nearby market town of Bakewell to sample the infamous Bakewell Pudding, is also a must! Our aim has been to make The Bobbin, an extremely comfortable 'home from home' .
This cosy end cottage is part of an old Stocking Mill and is split over three floors and comprises: Ground Floor: Kitchen and Sitting Room with dining area First Floor: Double Bedroom Second Floor: Twin Room and Family Bathroom We love having families to stay, however, our listing states 4 people and if you are a family of 5 (ie 4 people + baby) you may find the cottage too confined for your needs. There is a shared Courtyard to the rear, accessible from the kitchen with table and chairs and two secure outhouses, one for laundry and the other for bicycles. Re children playing outside, please be advised there is no gate to close off the Courtyard. Please also note: The staircase is steep and may not be suitable for the elderly or infirm and very young children (no stair gates) - please contact if you would like to discuss further. The cottage is Grade II listed and has a low doorway to the kitchen.
The Bobbin is perfectly situated in the heart of the village & Ashford in the Water is steeped in fascinating history; along with the Monsal Trail on the doorstep, there is plenty to see & do. You can enjoy a day out visiting Derbyshire's jewel, Chatsworth or pop into Bakewell & then on to Haddon Hall. Nearby Hassop Station has a wonderful café, book & gift store too with cycle/bike hire available.
  • Perfect cottage stay. Debs and Simon were both really kind and helpful with tips for the area. Lovely space, and really comfortable bed! Great space for the baby to play and a nice travel cot and high chair available. The cottage is in a great location for exploring the area, handy for the Monsal trail walk and some excellent pub lunches. We’d definitely come again.

  • We had such a fantastic stay at the cottage last year that we came back to stay this year. Our expectations coming back were met yet again and we had a fantastic stay. The cottage is clean, cosy and compact and contains everything that you need for your stay. Carole’s little touches like the message on the chalkboard, biscuits and dog treats make you feel really welcome.

    Shona2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the cottage, it was tastefully decorated and had everything we needed. The extra touches we noticed where most appreciated to. Great location too.

    Fiona2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We needed a break away from the day to day grind and Carole's cottage was the perfect solution. Carole was very welcoming and her communication is fantastic. I have recommended to a number of my friends already and will continue to do so. The location is amazing and the cottage is so cosy and relaxing. We will be coming back as soon as possible!

    Wayne2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We’ve just returned from Carole’s place after a 2 night stay to celebrate my partners birthday. The cottage is small but cosy and there was plenty of space for us and our pooch. Everything has been thought of in this cottage even down to the very thoughtful extras including treats for the dog and a bottle of wine to celebrate my boyfriends birthday. We also travelled on a particularly windy and snowy weekend, Carole had left us torches and candles incase of a power cut which was a lovely extra. Overall we had a lovely, cosy weekend which was central to everywhere we wanted to visit and the town really is only a short walk down the hill! We would definitely stay here again.

    Laura2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay in Bakewell. Caroles cottage had everything we needed and was in a great location, very close to the town. Carole had some great suggestions about local places to visit and responded to very quickly to questions. We would definitely recommend staying there.

    Laura2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic little property just a short walk into Bakewell. Spotlessly clean with all the facilities and amenities you could ask for. In particular the hosts are fab. Extremely welcoming and helpful. Some lovely thoughtful touches on arrival that really made our stay. Couldn’t have wished for better hosts.

    Katy2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely time in Carole's little cottage. Perfect base for walking into Bakewell and for cosy winter evenings in. Thank you for a lovely stay!

    Charlotte2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • I booked Carole’s place for my parents (and dog!) for my Dad’s birthday present. They said it was a perfect, relaxing stay, despite the grey weather! Carole was a polite, accommodating host who went above and beyond to make sure my parents were looked after.

A tiny self-catering stone studio in the Peak District with stunning views and great local walks. Great for a weekend escape – or a longer walking or bird watching holiday. South facing with a charming terrace overlooking the dale. Sun loungers and sunshade provided in the summer. There are lovely walks of all levels from the door and the regular local buses open up linear walks to/from Bakewell, Matlock and Ashford-in-the-Water. Visit The Hide throughout the year, both together and alone. There’s plenty of space for one; two need choreography once the sofa bed (super comfy - new August) is down. The walls are very thick, so it’s cosy and warm in winter and cool in the summer. Even in bad weather the view through the French windows is glorious and from the terrace it’s truly magnificent. Inside The Hide, there is a comfortable double sofa bed, fridge, cooking facilities including a microwave, table and chairs, TV/DVD, shower and toilet. The shower and toilet are currently being upgraded. WiFi available on request. There are 3 pub restaurants in the village We now also have an excellent village shop selling home reared meet, vegetables, fruit, sandwiches, household goods and excellent cakes. Peak Feast specialises in vegetarian food and bread and the Post Office sells newspapers, alcohol etc. and is open in the evening. There are regular buses to Bakewell. Maximum of 2 people. No smoking. Pets are allowed. Wi-Fi/internet access.
It is in the middle of glorious countryside. Fast flowing rivers, moorland, hillsides, open fields, woodland - everything except the sea! The village has 3 shops and 3 pubs which all do food and are dog friendly. It is 4 miles from Bakewell - a great walk for the energetic - get the bus back.
  • Thank you Maggie for a wonderful stay! It’s a wonderful little hide away after a day in the peaks! A humbling experience with all the necessities you could need (and a little more!). We definitely hope to come back! If you plan to visit in the winter bring lots of blankets! There is a great little heater but we very much benefitted from the extra layers!

Walking distance of the Thornbridge brewery and the gorgeous sights of Bakewell. The hosts were incredibly welcoming and on hand with brilliant pub tips and ideas. The rooms were lovely and clean and the heating was given a good boost for the evening when we headed back for the night. Perfect cozy escape for a weekend in Derbyshire.

  • What a fabulous spot! Firstly the location - just perfect! A short walk to Bakewell which has pubs and a lovely town centre, and also to Ashford which is an absolutly delightful little village. Plus a short drive to Chatsworth, aswell as the bigger towns of Buxton and Matlock. The rooms have their own entrance from outside which is really handy plus it's own parking. The space was perfect for us, the rooms were big but cosy and homely, spotlessly clean and lovely touches such as a beautiful bunch of daffodils in the room and the heating up for us when we got back on the cold frosty evening felt so welcoming. Add to that how hospitable and friendly Sarah and Andrew were, we really felt at home. We really wouldn't hestate to stay again. Thank you both for a fabulous stay, we absolutly loved it.

  • Lovely, warm cottage in a nice little village. Very comfortable place, with everything you need. A thoughtful hamper of essentials (milk, bread etc) is provided on arrival, which was perfect as we arrived in the evening. We enjoyed the music night at the pub in the village. Also did a walk to Rowsley, which was very picturesque. Thank you Ralph and Rebecca.

Quiet retreat adjoining open countryside Warning Saturday and Sunday the 18th and 19th July 2020 is Winster secret garden weekend. The village is exceptionally busy. Therefore if you are not interested in gardens that weekend is best avoided.
The Anchorage cottage is situated in a peaceful corner of the village of Winster in the Peak District National Park adjoining open countryside. Photo 10. There are beautiful walks literally from the door step. The White Peak Trail is 250 meters from the cottage. Photo 11 is taken from the field behind the cottage . Dating from the 18th century this lead miners cottage has been sympathetically restored and now offers self catering accommodation throughout the year. The Double bedroom overlooks the village and surrounding countryside. The en suite shower room has a wash basin shower and toilet. The sitting room has a TV and radio. The kitchen is separated from the sitting room by a breakfast bar. It is equipped with gas hob, fridge freezer, microwave and small cooker. Washing machine in separate building. The cottage is heated by gas central heating..There is a large well kept secure garden. Car parking on the premises, and free wifi.
The Bowling Green 100 meters from the cottage is a cosy typical village pub. This pub is very popular. I recommend that you book a table if you intend to have a meal there. There is a well stocked community shop and post office in the village which is open seven days a week.
  • We really enjoyed our stay at John's cottage. It was warm and comfortable and John was very friendly and helpful. The surrounding area is glorious! Recommended.

  • Amazing place to stay. Quaint cottage with everything a holidaying couple could hope for. Aesthetic with a nice garden and cosy bedroom. Would highly recommend staying in such an idyllic place!

  • Really lovely little house set in a beautiful garden. Sparklingly clean and John was very helpful and always on hand to give advice. The place is surrounded by beautiful countryside!

    Charlotte2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was wonderful - a fantastic cosy space for two people in a great location. Check in/out was incredibly easy, and John was really friendly, particularly providing us with some info in advance for how to do the trip easily by local transport - we weren't driving & found reaching the cottage and exploring the local towns easy with public transport. The suggested walks with John's annotations were also appreciated. The cottage was very clean, and had all of the amenities we needed including decent wifi.

    Jack2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Ideal spot for walking the area with plenty of info left in the cottage. Accommodation was just as the website, cosy and perfect for couples.

  • We have just returned from 4 nights at John's in Winster. Lovely little cottage in his beautiful garden. A basket full of walk suggestions, 2 pounds within walking distance (one is 2 minute walk away), a village shop with all you could need and beautiful countryside on your door step. If you like walking you'll be happy. Matlock is 10minutes drive away for meals out, some great bars and restaurants (we went to hatters for burgers and waffles and Herd for dinner--both recommended). Matlock bath illuminations are a great event too in the autumn. Thanks John,we hope to be back as soon as time allows!

    Anna2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful character cottage for two. Cosy, quiet and the perfect place to explore the Peak District from. John was a wonderful host, exceptionally accommodating, with good knowledge of the local area. The walk from the back of the property up the hill to view the village is worth a quick stroll, great views. We would highly recommend this gem of a property.

    Rachael2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay in this little cottage. It had everything that we needed, as well as having a village shop and a good pub within 2 minutes walking distance. Whilst the kitchen isn't massive, it is well equipped so we had no issue with cooking evening meals there. The village of Winster is very pretty and there are great walks straight from the house - including with beautiful views of rolling hills.

A cosy, quirky 17th/19th century cottage with simple charm. Small, stone, single storey one bed dwelling that used to be the village shop. Log burner in the spacious lounge. A kitchen with everything you need and it's own secret garden with views of Riber castle which can be seen whilst sitting in the rustic garden room. Ideally located for exploring the Peak District National park and the beautiful Derbyshire Dales. Matlock 2.5 miles away with pubs, supermarket, restaurants, shops etc.
The cottage will be at your complete disposal, from the photos you can see there is a spacious lounge, a compact but fully working kitchen with all the utensils you require, if the weather is bad you could build a log fire and bake a cake! A spacious double bedroom with ensuite bathroom with a large walk in shower. Included in the price is bedding, linen and towels, tea, coffee and sugar. There is a log burner but you need to bring your own logs. First fire made up. Parking is on the road outside the cottage or just down the hill in the village square. Number 3 used to be the old village shop built in the 19th Century but some parts date back to the 17th Century! The outside space includes a small garden with a rustic garden room where you can enjoy a glass of wine while enjoying the distant view of Riber Castle or just lock up your bikes. From the garden a gate opens onto to the public footpath that takes you down to Wensley Dale, a very beautiful area with rare breed sheep wandering around and wild flowers everywhere. From here you could walk into Snitterton or climb Oaker Hill the views are stunning!
Thank you for looking at Needham Cottage, Wensley. A pretty stone village which was once a thriving lead miners community. The garden can be reached via the ginnel, ie turn left from the back door, keep walking until you see the gate with Number Three on it, that is us. Here you can enjoy the view and see Riber Castle in the distance. Togetherwith the unusual upcycled garden room, table and chairs. A public footpath passes the garden gate and this leads you down into Wensley Dale, not the Wensleydale where the cheese comes from but our own dale of outstanding natural beauty. The Area The Derbyshire Dales is a place of wooded valleys, with an occasional steam train chugging through, passing sparkling rivers with their ancient stone bridges and rolling green hills sprinkled with picturesque villages with their unique shops, cosy pubs and cobbled yards. Don't miss the Barley Mow at Bonsal or Wirksworth. There is plenty to do and see from arts and crafts festivals, pop festivals, antiques shops and fairs, markets, historic houses like Chatsworth and medieval Haddon Hall. In addition to this there is the world heritage site in the Derwent Valley for historians of all things industrial including Richard Arkwright's Cromford and Masson Cotton Mills, at Cromford. The summer events list is endless with Well Dressings from May to September, The International Hen Racing Championships are hillarious, beer festivals, the spa town of Matlock Bath with its theme park, The Heights of Abraham, the arcades and pubs with live music are about 4 miles away and not forgetting Matlock itself, only 2.5 miles downhill a pleasant market town with the river Derwent running through it, a lovely park with boating lake, several pubs, wine bars, music venue, market day is Wednesday, there is a large Sainsburys, (supermarket) Wilkos, Iceland and unique shops. etc. Parking for the cottage is either outside on the Main Road or in the village square just a short walk away. Thank you again for looking at Needham Cottage.
  • The cottage is nicely decorated and contains everything you would need. It's a good size for 2 people and the fireplace is a lovely touch. Parking was generally okay - we arrived very late on the first night so had to park up the hill, but it wasn't far to walk. Trudy was always really quick to respond to messages and the check-in/ check-out were very easy. Would definitely stay again!

    Sarah2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage is perfect for 2 people to stay in. The kitchen area has everything one would need should they choose to either use it for tea/coffee all the way through to making dinner. The location is perfect for those who just want to take in the views and have long strolls during the day, and a large number of the Peak District landmarks are within driving distance from here. The log-burner is also a very nice treat after a long days walking on a cold day. Thank you.

    David2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cosy cottage, lovely log burner and very well equipped. Lots of thoughtful touches from the host. Ideally located for local scenic walks, with the larger town of Matlock on your doorstep. Definitely recommend this property!!

  • We really enjoyed our stay in this cute little quaint cottage. It was the perfect size and had all these home touches to it. The check in was easy with the key safe. Parking was close by. The location is perfect for driving to the peak district and matlock nearby. The garden was a plus and the log burner was just perfect for the cold nights. We were able to use the cooker and shower with ease. And finally Trudy is such lovely host! Next time we visit the peak, we will definitely stay here again! Thank you for such a lovely stay.

    halima2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely wonderful stay at Trudy's cottage. We stayed in both evenings and cooked dinner and there was everything we needed in the kitchen including spices, salt and pepper and even things like cling film and sandwich bags. The only thing I would change is that the sofa isnt very comfy but the comfy bed absolutely makes up for it. Thank you so much for a perfect stay. X

    Emily2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice spotlessly clean cottage - everything in the property to make your stay comfortable- especially the king size bed which is one of the most comfortable we have slept in away from home!

    John2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little cottage for two people with everything you need for a holiday. Good communication throughout, nicely decorated and clean place. Lovely soft big bed and great fire in the lounge. The sofa was a bit uncomfortable but I think that’s because it was a sofa bed? Nice walks nearby. Will definitely be staying again soon!

Situated on the A6, with Chatsworth and Haddon Hall just a short drive away, my house is a great base for exploring the Peak District. Hop on a bus from outside my front door and you can easily be in Buxton, Bakewell (5 miles) or Matlock (3 miles).
A quiet twin room at the back of the house with views over the rooftops to Stanton Moor. There is a private bathroom which is downstairs, not en-suite.
Step away from the main road and this is a quiet residential area. There are two pubs nearby and steam trains from Peak Rail chug along the track just 100 yards away. From my house you can be in any of the Peak District's main attractions in less than an hour by car and if you want to find somewhere off the beaten track - I can tell you where to look.
  • A comfortable room, a friendly and helpful host, a good base to explore local Peak District land marks.

  • We stayed over the weekend at Jenna's cottage and had a really lovely time. The cottage is well kitted out, sparkling clean, and very cosy. The bed was also extremely comfortable! It's really close to the centre of town, which has pretty much anything you need. We came primarily for walking, so spent a lot of time out of the place to explore the Peak District. But the location is great to access different walks.

    Ingrina2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cottage in a brilliant position in the town with an amazing view from the upper terrace.

  • We had a really lovely stay here. It’s a great space for two people. The location was perfect for bike rides on the Monsal Trail and walks around the area. It’s also only a short drive to Hathersage for the Stanage Edge walk, Wetton for the Thor’s Cave walk and Earl Sternsdale for the Roaches/Luds Church walk. Special touches like the lemon drizzle cake, local fresh eggs, and milk left for us were a lovely surprise. The kitchen was very well equipped and had everything we needed; even a cafetière which we weren’t expecting. Definitely recommend this place!

The terraced cottage features a comfortable lounge with a wood burning stove for relaxing evenings, a king bed in the master bedroom, a double and single bunk bed in the second bedroom, a fully fitted kitchen, dishwasher and washing machine. There are plenty of games for you to enjoy when you're not out and about exploring the stunning local area. Railwayman's Cottage also has a TV and online Freeview box allowing you to access many on-demand TV services, as well as a bluetooth/wifi music system and fast broadband WiFi in case you need to catch up with work.
Rowsley is a beautiful historic village with two excellent pubs, a general store and post office, the Peak Shopping Village with gift shops, local produce and outdoor shops and a working water mill and bakery, all within a short walk of Railwayman's Cottage. For keen cyclists, there is a secure bike store in the back garden and many, many miles of glorious Peak District and Derbyshire Dales to access. Bring your swimming gear for a chilly dip in the wild swimming holes of the River Derwent, or if you prefer something warmer, Bakewell has an excellent swimming pool 10 minutes drive from the house and Hathersage has a Victorian open air Lido. If you are a lover of country houses, Derbyshire will not disappoint, with the famous Chatsworth House and lesser known but equally worth visiting Haddon Hall, all within a 10min drive. Many historic local villages within Derbyshire are worth a visit too, with Tideswell, Buxton, Matlock, and Eyam within easy reach. And of course there is the castle and caves in Castleton which make for a year round tourist haven. Whatever your reason for staying, as the night draws in, you can cook at home and relax by the wood burning stove, or you can enjoy a meal out in either The Peacock or The Grouse and Claret, the 2 well regarded local pubs which are within an easy 10min walk from the property. There are plenty of other pubs to eat at in the local villages which are easily accessible by car. We have placed a number of suggestions in the welcome pack.
  • Fantastic location - about a 5 min drive to Chatsworth House and and Bakewell. You had everything you needed at the house. Loved all the little touches which made our visit that bit better. Big thank you to Emma and Ian. Would highly recommend and hope to visit again in future!

  • A really lovely, well stocked, cosy cottage in a great location. Hosts were very good at communicating and clearly love their cottage!

    Sam2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely, comfortable little cottage with so many really kind touches. It was my birthday weekend and Emma left a lovely note and some chocolates! There were plenty of blankets and hot water bottles, snacks and breakfast treats including milk in the fridge and condiments if you wanted to cook. Really difficult to fault this cottage, and the communication from Emma was great. We ate at Caudwell’s Mill which is a super little vegetarian cafe, the food at the Grouse and Claret was just ok but convenient as it’s within walking distance and perfect with small children.

Really couldn't fault it at all! Thank you Emma and Ian

  • We loved our stay with Joanna in her comfortable, clean and cosy home. She was so welcoming and went out of her way for us: she was probably the best host we've ever had. We slept like a log both nights and the shower was excellent, which was a treat after some wet windy weather. We will definitely be staying here in the future, 100% recommended

  • Spot on Airbnb stay, Joanna was really helpful in comms, advising I could change the dates via the app, didn’t even know that was possible ! Easy parking, friendly welcome, a good chat, nice room with a great view. Tea and biscuits in room was a bonus don’t recall ever having that before in an Airbnb. Very easy come easy go approach which is great. Had to turn down the generous offer of breakfast but that is a nice touch as well. I’m not a dog person but Joanna’s dog is absolutely fine. Totally recommend for anyone staying in the area, thanks Joanna 👍

  • Great Stay at Inkwell cottage. Thanks Jane we loved the Bakewell pudding! Milk in the fridge with available tea and coffee was also nice. The cottage is very clean and cosy and we would definitely love to stay again. Also the dog treats were a lovely touch. Thanks again.

  • Inkwell cottage is a lovely home from home place in a great location. Check in was very easy and the information provided by the host was really useful and helped us to plan our days out. The cottage was super clean and the lovely touch of a local delicacy waiting for us in the fridge was delicious! Would highly recommend Inkwell Cottage.

A lovely, traditional little terraced cottage located high above Matlock Bath, with stunning views over the Derbyshire countryside. Pretty, comfortable and sympathetically furnished throughout, this Matlock Bath cottage is ideal for a small family or group of friends to enjoy the delights of this beautiful part of the Peak District.
Despite being only a few minutes from the centre of Matlock Bath, the cottage is on a tranquil terrace high above the bustle. It's warm in winter and cool in the summer. Despite being new to Airbnb, we have been letting this property to great reviews for over four years.
The immediate neighbourhood is quiet, but Matlock Bath is full of restaurants, cafes and bars. There are lots of things to do including taking the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham or walking along the river and canal or up in the hills. There are many other towns and villages close by such as Bakewell and Cromford.
  • A cosy cottage with fantastic views. 5 minute walk from the main street in Matlock Bath. A bit longer to get back up the hill! Anne was very helpful with weather updates and directions.

    Lyn2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful communication and picturesque location.

    Kathryn2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Painters cottage is a great place to stay in the heart of Matlock Bath. We went during the busy illuminations event and it was nice and quiet there even though it was very busy in the main street. We watched the event fireworks from the front garden/balcony and the view from there was fantastic. The views from the cottage are great, watching the hills opposite changing colour as the sun sets or the weather changes. The cottage is spacious and comfortable with original paintings from the owner hanging on the walls. The bed was very comfortable and the wifi worked well. We had a nice relaxing and enjoyable stay there and would return again.

    Duane2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at Anne’s cottage, the views were spectacular and the hospitality from Anne even better. Lovely having a real fire to light in the dining room and the bed was very very comfy.

    Jessica2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Anne's place is a great base to explore the Peak District from. Anne was a great host, making check-in very easy and responding quickly to any questions we had. She even dropped us off at the train station on our way home! Thanks Anne.

  • We loved our stay - this is a great cottage and a great base for exploring the beautiful local area.

    Helen2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage perfect for a family or a couple. Great location and amazing views, parking a bit tricky (parallel parking on a hill!) but finding a space wasn’t too tricky. Milk and biscuits on arrival was a thoughtful touch and the beds were very comfortable. Lots to do in the local area and walking distance to Gulliver’s Kingdom (my 7 and 9 year olds loved it!) and Heights of Abraham (we didn’t go there), plus the amusements of Matlock Bath. The Balti restaurant nearby is lovely! Thank you for a lovely stay Ann.

Beautiful Georgian house set in the tiny hamlet of Alport. A relaxed family home with a warm welcome. Our house is over 300 years old and is full of character ....wobbly floors, crooked stairs and bendy walls add to the charm. We love our home and are really excited to share it with you. During these trying times, I would like to reassure you that we are taking hygiene very seriously and have added extra antibacterial to our already very thorough deep clean between guests.
Our home is situated in a beautiful area of the Peak District with fabulous walks and wonderful stately homes to explore. Easy access to the wonderful Chatsworth house - a mere 10 minute drive through glorious parkland. Or if you like your stately homes on the smaller, more intimate side, we have Haddon Hall on our doorstep. A short walk from our door and you are in Youlgreave with its wonderful 13th century church. Youlgreave has 3 pubs offering excellent home cooked food and is easily walking distance from our home. I have an additional room available for family or friends, please message me for details.
Quiet hamlet situated very close to the market town of Bakewell. On the doorstep, we have the rivers Derwent and Bradford which offer great fishing. From the house there are numerous circular walks which allow you to leave the car, but for those more inclined towards a challenge, there is the famous limestone way. We have local maps and walking guide books for you to borrow whilst you are here. We are very well situated for a number of Peak District attractions and provide a full guide in your room. However, so that you can make plans, below are a number of “must see” places that are close by: Chatsworth House 4 miles Haddon Hall 1 mile Hardwick Hall. 12 miles Bakewell Town. 2.5 miles Buxton Spa Town. 12miles Matlock. 5 miles Chesterfield. 11 miles If you are visiting Chatsworth over the Christmas period, you will need to book your tickets in advance online. We have three pubs in the neighbouring village of Youlgrave, all serving food and within 10/15 mins walking. At a weekend I would recommend booking as they are all very popular. Bulls Head Hotel 01629 636307 www.bullsheadyoulgrave.co.uk The Farmyard Inn 01629 636221 www.farmyardinn.co.uk The George Hotel 01629 636292 www.youlgrave.org.uk
  • Very friendly welcome, great tips for local eating, etc. Thoughtful touches: bottle of water in the room, good continental breakfast, wood-burning stove in the drawing room. Lovely old building (1720 in parts, I think). And a couple of delightful dogs, too.

  • Beautiful home in a great location. Lizzie, the host, was super friendly and really made us feel welcome throughout our stay. The log fire was an added extra, there's a lovely village pub just a few minutes walk away and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Looking forward to going back and will definitely stay here again.

  • You’ll need a car! But that’s a good thing as you’ll be able to sample the Dales and Peak District which aren’t far away at all. Wendy and her family were very welcoming and their cat always said hello and accepted scritches. The loft itself had everything I needed and Matlock was just a 20-minute walk away if I wanted to get out for a bit. Recommend!

East Lodge is a two bed roomed cottage...sitting overlooking the meadow and river . It is five minutes walk across the meadow to the market town of Bakewell. Decor is traditional...wooden floor in sitting room, tiled kitchen floor and carpeted upstairs. All windows look out across the meadow. There is a paved garden to the front and a yard at the back with a shed suitable for bikes.
East Lodge is a charming, beamed cottage. All of the rooms look out over the front of the house over the river and the meadow. It is a quiet, level stroll over the meadow into the delightful market town of Bakewell. The walk takes five minutes, which includes time to stop and watch the rainbow trout sunbathing in the shallows of the river!
The cottage is a lodge at the end of an unused drive. There is another lodge the other side of the driveway where a lovely family live. They are both out at work. A gate directly infront of the cottage takes you into the meadow, where you can enjoy a short stroll that brings you out on the edge of the town on the old Bakewell Bridge. There are lots of little independent shops in the town...numerous pubs and coffee shops, and a co.op. Take a walk down by the river....plenty of trout to spot..or feed the ducks. Every Monday there is an excellent market in the town...good cheese...vegetables etc., worth a browse round. Nearby is Haddon Hall...which has a wonderful rose garden...and Chatsworth House is about 10 minutes away. Wonderful walks round the park and surrounding countryside. A great tea rooms at Edensor in the Park after a walk...lovely food. The Monsal Trail is 5 minutes away...a beautiful walk or cycle ride...spectacular views at Monsal Head...and very dark tunnels, only dimly lit...very spooky! Hassop Station ....by the trail is a brilliant stop for delicious food and coffee...and also sells cards...books etc. There is lots of information in the cottage about walks , places to eat etc.
  • Great location, on a quiet no-through road, ten minute stroll through the meadow, by the river, to town with plenty of great pubs and restaurants. The cottage is very dog friendly, with wooden floor in the living room and tiled floor in the kitchen, with room for a crate if needed. Back yard is very escape proof and ideal for an early morning or late night wee! The front garden is great for sitting out in, watching the world go by, slowly! The living room is cosy, TV and wi-fi, and two comfortable sofas, and a log burner should the weather turn chilly. Bedrooms very comfy, and the bath is great, you can look out the window while you’re sitting in the bath.

    Nicholas2019-05-31T00:00:00Z

  • East Lodge is a lovely old house with views across the water meadows from kitchen, drawing room, bedrooms and bathroom windows. It is well equipped and really comfortable. It is a five minute walk into town for shopping (the wine merchant on the trading estate is very good) or dining and a five minute drive to Chatsworth Estate farm shop for great meat and produce. Susie has really catered for dogs, which made us feel very welcome. There are lots of good walks either from the door or within a few mins drive which our labrador enjoyed hugely.

    Jonathan2019-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Great place with a great location.

    Jon2019-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely excellent cottage. Literally 5 minutes walk from Bakewell centre but really quiet. Lots of dog walks from the cottage in all directions. Cottage properly dog friendly with two safe and enclosed outside spaces. Nice basket of food left and items in the fridge, very welcome...and a roaring fire in the log burner, couldn't ask for more. We shall certainly return - can't wait. Susie, the owner, was excellent regarding communication, answering fully and promptly at all times. Bakewell is a lovely small town with good shops and pubs. The Manners, Pointing Dog and Duck and the Wheatsheaf all serve excellent food at reasonable prices.

  • We have only good things to say about this place. Youlgreave itself is beautiful. The walks surrounding the space are all divine. The apartment itself couldn’t have been better for what we wanted or cleaner. And our hosts could not have been kinder or more helpful. We had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning!!

  • We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Simon & Wendy’s little studio. It’s cosy and private with lovely views to be enjoyed from bed! They provided lovely little breakfast treats which were very appreciated! You have everything you need, and Youlgreave is the perfect little village if you want pubs and eateries (Peak Feast is a must!) within walking distance whilst not having the (still only minimal!) hustle and bustle of a slightly larger town like Bakewell, which is what our preference is. After booking, Simon & Wendy provided links to some brilliant circular walking routes, which was so helpful as that’s what we were there to do & we did 2 of them (we recommend the 10-miler to Monyash if you’re up for it!). In season I imagine it would be the perfect base for visiting Chatsworth and Haddon Hall, the latter being within walking distance. Whenever visiting the Peaks in the future as a couple and not a group, this is where we will stay without hesitation.

    Emma2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • The Studio has everything going for it: everything is shiny and new and kept that way; great entertainment system; great facilities; a location that seemed central to everything in the Peak District; gorgeous views in a charming village; and of course fantastic hosts! Wendy & Simon look after you from the second you’ve booked… they send you useful info on how to get there, and a website full of information on the local area, walks, recommendations, etc. and greeting on arrival. They also went above and beyond to make our stay special from the start! Would love to come back and have already recommended to others.

Based in Darley Dale midway between Matlock and Bakewell and in easy reach of local attractions. The house is centrally heated with gas and has an open fire in the living room. It is in a cul-de-sac so very quiet with the local park adjacent to the end of the road.. The property is well equipped including dishwasher and washing machine, oven, microwave etc. We supply hand towels for the kitchen and bathroom but please bring your own bath towels.
The single room bed is a 'Captain's Bed' like a bunk bed but without the bottom bunk and has storage underneath instead, great for kids.
Within a few miles of the most popular Peak District attractions. Peak Rail runs weekend steam trains through Darley Dale and within 3 miles are Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall and the Heights of Abraham, Great Masson Cavern and Gulliver's Kingdom in Matlock Bath. Alton Towers within an hours drive. Local park 100yds. Golf, Riding and Swimming Pool within 3 miles. Pub and shops are close by.

  • We visited August Bank holiday 2019. This was a well equipped 3 bedroom house. There were 4 adults in our party and there was plenty of room for all of us. Tea, milk and biscuits were there for our arrival which was a nice touch. The WiFi code is written on the router. The host immediately answered all my questions prior to our visit as I had a disabled elderly relative with me. It was very quiet at night so we slept well. The local Cantonese takeaway at the end of the street is recommended as is the Barrington pub which is 5 minutes walking distance away. Both provided amazing food and the service in the pub was fantastic. We also visited the Colombo by Ayubowan Sri Lankan restaurant in Tansley with really tasty food. Recommended! Nearby (15 minute drive) is Bakewell which is great for shopping and in the other direction is Matlock. We visited the heights of Abraham and the tram museum at Crich (both allow wheelchairs although you can't do the cave's at Abraham in the chair). The tram museum was great. The house is a perfect base for all attractions in the area. Parking is in the road in front of the house. This property is thoroughly recommended and I hope to visit again soon.

I provide tea and fresh coffee, milk and a breakfast of bread, yogurts and cereals included in the price. The area is between Matlock and Bakewell with local pubs. Pets welcome.
A self-contained small cottage in a hamlet. Near woodland and moorside walks in the heart of the countryside. Room for bikes outside and muddy walking boots inside. Room for breakfast in the kitchen or on the little patio. Feel free to have a picnic in the garden at the top of the hill where you see tables and chairs provided. Please note the fire is not a log burner and there is no bath.
This is a beautiful area typical of the Derbyshire Dales and Peak District. We love living here because of the peace and calm yet nearness to so many places of historic interest, great walks, pubs and restaurants. Short walks around the area are on your doorstep and buses can take you to Bakewell in 15 minutes. Chatsworth House the home of The Duke of Devonshire with its sculpture gardens and restaurants is a ten minute drive and Haddon Hall is 7 minutes away. Longer walks over Beeley Moor behind the cottage will bring you over to Beeley Village and the pub there. You can walk along the Derwent Valley to Cauldwell's Mill cafe and blacksmith's at Rowsley and on to Chatsworth following the river if you prefer less hilly walks. A number of local pubs serve food- The Grouse and The Peacock at Rowsley or The Devonshire Arms at Beeley. Nearby is The Whitworth bar and restaurant less than 5 minutes to drive or a walk if you prefer. You can walk to local pub The Grouse at the bottom of the hill for a drink. There is a good curry house within 20 minutes walking distance or a couple of minutes drive along the A6 towards Bakewell. Matlock is less than 10 minutes away by car or bus with cocktail bars The Mad Hatters and The Monk bar as well as pubs The Hare, Mokka Bar (CAMRA) an others. Herd, Stones and Maazi serve good food, you may need to book. Bakewell is less than 10 minutes away by car or bus or you could walk along the river Wye. There are lots of great pubs and restaurants there with a wide range of food. Matlock Bath is 10 minutes away with its seaside fun style with cafes, pubs, fish and chip shops and amusement arcades. Just ask us for any help you might require with ideas or bookings.
  • Lovely little cottage in a very peaceful spot. There were some lovely thoughtful touches - e.g. bread, granola bars and milk. Good access to the peaks. Fantastic that it’s dog friendly - but there aren’t places to walk to that you can eat at with your pup!

The perfect spot for anyone who enjoys the wonderful countryside of the White Peak, with its fascinating variety of dales and rolling hills. Dale Cottage enjoys an idyllic peaceful location with superb views over Bradford Dale and beyond. The cottage is cosy, with a log fire, well-equipped and comfortable. Please note that the cottage is situated on a steep bank and is therefore unsuitable for people with mobility problems.
The spacious but cosy lounge features an open grate for making log fires. There is a separate well-equipped kitchen. Upstairs, there is a bedroom with a king-size bed, and a smaller room with 4 ft. three-quarter bed (against a wall on one side). Both bedrooms have lovely views. A bathroom with bath and power shower completes the accommodation. The outhouse contains a washing machine and tumble drier. Although sleeping up to four, the cottage is most comfortable for up to three adults or 2 adults and 2 children (who don't mind sharing a bed!)
An ancient ridge village set above the River Bradford, Youlgrave is one of the friendliest and most interesting villages in the Peak. It's an ideal starting point for walks, with the Bradford Dale (almost on the doorstep of Dale Cottage) joining up with Lathkill Dale, a well-known beauty spot with stunning views and wonderful wildlife. Youlgrave itself has three excellent pubs serving good food and beer, and holds many cultural and artistic events. The highspot of the village's year is the Welldressings week in mid-summer, where the locals maintain a centuries-old tradition of constructing giant tableaux entirely from petals and leaves; these well dressings are thought to represent a sign of thanks for the gift of water.
  • Great cottage with amazing views. Cottage is as described. We tried two of the local pubs, unfortunately, the third was closed. The food and service was very good. The area is perfect for walking and the cottage has good facilities, everything we needed for our short break. Clear instructions on how to find the cottage and how everything works. Thank you.

It's right in the centre of Bakewell with its many pubs and shops, but is in a fairly quiet street. Beverley is the perfect hostess, greeting us on arrival and farewelling us too. She replies very quickly and has plenty of helpful advice about where to go and what to see. The property itself is clean and perfectly set up for two people. It's charming and slightly querky, in a good way. The bed is really comfortable. You might just want to be aware of the fact that there isn't a shower, but there is heaps of water for baths. Very highly recommended. Thanks, Beverley.

  • Shelley is very dedicated in delivering a great house for peak district visitors. As you descend the little steps into the main property area, you can already see that the cottage has a lot of personality, and it is kept to an immaculate state. Inside it is lovely and very clean, and the house comes with even more extras than the ones mentioned on the website. Me and my friends had a great time and we'd love rent it back should we return to the area.

    Angela2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and comfortable old farmhouse experience. Everything you need and lovely thoughtful touches like flowers, milk, tea, coffee and sugar. Lovely area whilst rural a few minutes in the car and you have all the needed resources at your disposal. Our dog Oscar loved it too.

    Sharon2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful. Shelley offered a warm welcome on our arrival. The cottage is very cosy and had everything we needed. A pint of milk in the fridge is a lovely touch for a nice cup of tea. The cottage was very comfortable and we loved the wood burner. Shelley kindly showed my children the animals on her farm. They were very taken by the lovely Labrador! We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to Derbyshire.

  • Recommend! Lovely host. Quick responses. Great local knowledge. Lovely cosy cottage. Thank you !

    Christopher2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks so much for everything Shelley. Offering to take the pressure off check-out after spending all night in A&E was a simple kindness but meant the difference between stress/ exhausted deadline and a peaceful morning. Sadly we lost my Grandma yesterday on her birthday at 91 years young so it all feels very surreal right now. But thank goodness I was there visiting to be able to help her when she needed it most and thank goodness for your beautiful farmhouse so I knew my family were safe, cosy and happy when I was unexpectedly called to go with my Grandma in the ambulance. Thank you. <3

  • Firstly, we would like to say a huge thank you to Gary and Kate for a wonderful stay in Youlegrave. The cottage was in a perfect location, both for the local walks and the pubs just a stones throw from the front door (all of which we sampled and loved). The walking guide book provided recommended us a beautiful walk up to Haddon Hall, via another charming pub in an idyllic location. The cottage itself was lovely, a well-equipped kitchen opening onto a beautiful little garden, a warm and cosy lounge and a very impressive bedroom upstairs! We had everything we needed for our stay (particularly enjoying their impressive knife set) and couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay for a couple of nights away. Thank you again, and we will definitely be back for another few nights of peace soon!

  • Absolutely beautiful Airbnb located right in the centre of Bakewell. I had high hopes after reading other reviews and seeing the images but Hayley’s place exceeded those high expectations. The house is clean, tidy, modern and proved to be the perfect place to relax in during our stay. Hayley was communicative and helpful throughout. Thank you!
