  • We stayed at Janes lovely apartment in her wonderful grounds near her Stables. The location for us was perfect. It was Christmas Eve and the village of Stanton was amazing which could be reached within half an hours walk. It was so Christmassy in the village with a nice pub and a fish and chip shop as well as great Christmas lights. Good off road parking and a warm comfortable room, with a nice TV. What more could you want. Thanks Jane and a Happy New Year. Jan and Brain

"This place is stunning..." A warm welcome awaits you in our lovely village home, with three large bedrooms for our B&B guests, modern private bathroom, second shower room and a separate large and comfy guest sitting room with smart TV. Cooked breakfast included, plus superfast broadband and easy parking in private driveway. Country walks, cosy log stove and board games on colder nights. Lovely garden, table tennis, croquet and outdoor pool in summer. Period charm with a modern twist.
Note that we take only one Airbnb party at a time, and are happy to host any number from one to six! There are three spacious guest bedrooms, two doubles with king-size beds and one with twin single beds, which can interconnect with another bedroom (great if you're staying with children). If your booking involves three couples, the two single beds can be linked to make a 6ft double. We supply tea and coffee etc (plus kettle) upstairs in a charming sitting space between the two double bedrooms. There is also a large private sitting room (see 'guest access'). The house is Grade 2 Listed and is part 17th Century, part 18th Century and part 19th Century, but with all mod cons including superfast broadband. There is a contemporary bathroom with a great shower; this is not ensuite but it is for the private use of guests only. There is also a second shower room which is handy for larger groups. I should add that, because this is an old house, it's not particularly manageable for people with mobility issues, in that there are a few steps between the bedrooms and the bathrooms, and this can be a bit tricky for anyone who needs to use a stick.
The beautiful market town of Bury St Edmunds is only 15 minutes away by car, as is Thetford Forest in the other direction. And Cambridge is just an hour away. There are plenty of places to eat within a few miles (although not in the village itself) and a village shop just up the road plus several more a couple of miles away. The whole area is superb cycling country and there are some lovely Suffolk Wildlife Trust reserves, such as Redgrave and Lopham Fen, a short drive away. I have put together a list of places to eat around here, including website addresses and post codes for your satnav. Please just ask me to email it to you if you would like to take a look before you come.
  • Both Jane and her b & b meet the highest expectations !!

  • Amazing hospitality, Jane was exceptionally friendly and couldn't do enough for me. The room was comfortable and spacious. Would recommend to anyone.

  • Our stay at Jane and Roger’s was fantastic. I had a feeling when I booked it that it would be just what I was looking for and it was, and more. Jane and Roger went above and beyond ensuring we had a comfortable stay, even researching the closest car park to an event we were attending. Breakfast was just as good as previous reviewers have mentioned, scrumptious. The house is beautiful and Jane and Roger were the best hosts we could wish for.

  • Troston Lodge is the jewel in Suffolk's crown! Jane's house is a great place to stay, especially for groups: multiple bedrooms, private living area and a great breakfast in the morning. All at a reasonable rate! Jane has thoughtful touches with an extensive range of tea and coffee available and extras like hair dryers and ironing facilities. It was a comfortable stay with Jane and Roger being accommodating whilst allowing for us to have privacy. We shall be booking again to return in warmer weather - namely for the pool! Thank you Jane and Roger: what a wonderful home you have!

  • Lovely host, super comfy bed with big pillows. Huge bathroom with all the soaps you ever need. Guest sitting room with fire lit! Lush huge breakfast, homemade jam, fresh fruits and local produce, no fuss accommodating dietary requirements. Highly recommend

  • This place is stunning, from the hospitality and the private luxury lounge to the top quality breakfast everything was to the highest possible standards. My colleagues and I were blown away by what we found here, an absolute treat!!

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, United Kingdom

Our home is set in eight acres of extensive gardens and paddocks. We are hidden away in the village of Stanton, conveniently just 3 minutes walk from the local pub and shops and 20 minutes drive from Bury St Edmunds. We offer disabled friendly (wheelchair) access throughout, and can accommodate well behaved dogs, children, bigger parties (2 other rooms available with private use shared bathroom), and even horses. We were featured on BBC1 programme "I Escaped To The Country" in January 2018.
If there are more than 2 people in your party please ask if we can accommodate them as we have additional rooms available, subject to specific arrangements and an additional charge. Whilst we offer a private living area to guests if required, and we respect your space, we really like meeting new people and we are gregarious, so you are quite likely to be invited into our own living areas.
Stanton is a well served village with a Pub ("The Cock" which is open, and serving food all but Mondays), a corner shop, Post Office, fish & chip shop and bakers just a couple of minutes walk away. A short distance away is the Hillcrest Garden Centre with coffee shop and farm / delicatessen foods for sale. Plus a mile down the road you will find Wyken Vinyard. It has a lovely country shop and the Leaping Hare restaurant is reputedly one of the best in East Anglia.
  • Had a great stay with Mick & Sue, lovely people, lovely house & grounds & amazing breakfast!! We had the best time with them & will definitely visit again in the future!!

    Charlotte2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Sue are great hosts. We really enjoyed staying with them. The room is lovely, bright and very comfortable. Breakfast was a great - try the homemade jam - with a beautiful outlook. They clearly enjoy hosting and if you have the time, spend some time talking to them about their home and extraordinary lives - they have some great stories. The flag is a great touch, and adds to the warm welcome.

  • A great place to stay, hosts were easy to communicate with and everything was clean, tidy and very comfortable. Would stay again!

    Susan2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a wonderful stay with Michael and Sue in their beautiful home and grounds. They made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble . The room was spacious and clean with a very comfortable bed . On a Saturday night , Sue very kindly drove us to a local restaurant and arranged a taxi firm for our return journey . We had a lovely breakfast the next morning with a view across the grounds and paddocks . Overall we had a really relaxing and peaceful stay with a extremely hospitable couple . Many thanks to you both. Ean and Maria

    Maria2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • A second visit and again absolutely loved it all. The room is just so comfortable and clean with stunning views. The hosts are both quite simply wonderful and a joy to chat to. Great value and recommended as a base for exploring Suffolk for s few days. We had two dogs with us who loved it all.

    Dawn2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely lovey setting, beautiful gardens, paddocks and 'oh so peaceful'- just perfect. Sue was so hospitable (Michael wasn't there) and nothing was too much trouble.

    Nadine2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Mick and Sue were the perfect hosts, communication was excellent and they were extremely accommodating (even allowed our black lab dog Walter to stay also). Was lovely to meet Ben the whippet too :) breakfast was simple but tasty, especially the homemade jams. Wish we had time to stay longer to explore the area.

    Christina2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Without doubt THE best AirBnB experience made so by the hospitality of Mick and Sue, I will be returning at earliest opportunity.

We are close to Bury St Edmunds and an ideal semi-rural base for exploring East Anglia and the cities of Norwich and Cambridge. Our comfortable and quiet cottage annexe provides a well-equipped place to stay for a self-catering short break or longer, with wi-fi included. The comfortable sitting room looks out onto the private garden where there is a small patio containing outdoor chairs and table. The ensuite bedroom (double-bed) has a vaulted ceiling and ample storage.
An attractive conservatory is where you will find the comfortable living room, with 2-seater settee, coffee table and lamp. The TV and radio is here also. The bedroom has a high ceiling with exposed beams, and contains a free-standing wardrobe plus a large built-in cupboard which combined have plenty of space for clothing and baggage. The en-suite bathroom has a pedestal wash-basin, toilet and modern shower. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering and includes dining table and two dining chairs.
We are a short drive from the centre of Stanton village, which can be walked in about 20 minutes. In the village centre you will find a village pub, a convenience store, bakers and a post-office. On the other side of the village on the Barningham road there is an excellent farm-shop at Hillcrest Nurseries, with deli counter and cafe.
  • A delightful and secluded cottage hideaway. Ian and Debbie were delightful hosts. Communication was superb. Many thoughtful touches which Debbie provided, clearly demonstrating the qualities of a Super Host. Highly recommend.

    Allan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were given very clear directions to the accommodation, and information about the area, shops, local places to eat, etc. The annexe feels like a cottage, self contained, everything you need was provided, it was sparkling clean, and lovely and warm when we arrived on a wet dismal December evening. There were fresh flowers in the bedroom, and a welcome pack with locally produced fruit juices and chocolates. Also a lovely patio area outside which would be a good place for breakfast in warm weather. Thank you Debbie.

    Angela2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great space with everything you could possibly need in the annex. Quiet & peaceful area ..... we slept well every night. We had little or no service on our mobiles but that was a nice change to be uncontactable ! But if you rely on yours you may want to check with Ian & Debbie which service providers are better.

    Debra2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Debbie and Ian were absolutely lovely and so was the place! The space was really well used and the garden setting was gorgeous. Amenities were great too! We had more than enough kitchen supplies and the internet was decent enough to watch Netflix too. If we were really being picky then the lack of soap in the shower or the jittery TV was unexpected but we never addressed this so it's unfair to hold that out on its own. It was a mobile phone black spot too so I found that amazing as I got to switch off from the world when I wanted. Absolutely recommend this spot and most certainly aim to come back soon

    Ehab2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable and clean cottage annex, that is quiet and peaceful and surrounded by nice countryside. I would happily stay here again.

    Erik2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Clean and spacious. Bit off the beaten track for sightseeing. But if you want peace and tranquility here it is

  • A lovely little place in the middle placed centrally in the est of England, perfect for exploring Norfolk and Suffolk. Our host, Debbie, was welcoming and helpful and left us a few goodies to settle us in. It was so peaceful and quiet: just what we wanted to relax after days out on our travels.

Set in the bountiful countryside on the Suffolk/Norfolk border, there is ample opportunity for wonderful walks straight from the door and table tennis awaits those who want a little fun.
  • Nice place. Both owners are very welcoming and there are lots of lovely personal touches. Be aware that this house is very hard to find in the dark, due to the nature of the location.

A pretty Victorian cottage with wood burning stove and many original features. Placed well away from the hustle and bustle, the cottage serves as a peaceful rural retreat, just twenty minute's drive from Bury St Edmunds and 4 miles from the Suffolk/Norfolk border, making it a perfect touring base. Luxurious Egyptian cotton bedding, feather pillows & duvets and white Turkish cotton towels are provided.
Built in 1861 this former estate worker's cottage enjoys a tranquil rural location and there are lawned gardens with a small pond to the front (unfenced so small children need to be supervised) and a private courtyard area with seating at the rear of the property. The garden is visited by a wide variety of birds such as robins, greenfinches, collared doves, long tailed tits, goldfinches to name but a few. The shaker-style kitchen with breakfast bar (seats 4 people) includes: Electric oven Microwave Brita filter kettle Toaster Fridge freezer Washing machine Tumble dryer The cosy sitting room has a wood burner (logs are provided), 42" flat screen TV and DVD player. There is a selection of children's DVDs. The shingled courtyard area with seating at the rear of the property is perfect for alfresco dining.
Bowbeck is a charming little hamlet which lies within the parish of Bardwell (shortlisted for 2017 Village of the Year). The Royal George pub in Barningham and Six Bells pub in Bardwell are merely a mile and a half away and the nearest shops are SPAR in Barningham which sells freshly baked bread and Hillcrest Farm Shop in Stanton (3 miles). Golfing, horse riding, segway and kayaking are a short drive away. The area offers great opportunities for walkers with the Peddar's Way and Icknield Way just 4 miles down the road at the Suffolk/Norfolk border. Food at the Norton Dog pub is highly recommended (popular so booking is advisable).
  • Ellen's cottage is just as described, large enough but also cosy. We really appreciated the thoughtful touches of fresh milk and biscuits for that much needed cuppa on arrival. You wont be disappointed with the characterful charm and position of the cottage

    Lesley2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage in a very rural location . The garden is full of birds visiting the feeders in the garden. Very well equipped kitchen and nice to have hand wash, good quality towels and cosy duvet. Interesting places to visit a short drive away, we especially recommend Wyken vineyard shop and restaurant.

    Angela2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ellen’s place is a quiet and lovely cottage. It has all that was needed for short or long stays. Lots of information and nice little touches. Ideal location to stay and enjoy the area.

    Trevor2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • The house was super cosy with all of the stuff we needed for a comfortable stay. Was really lovely and quiet. Thank you Ellen!

    Chloe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is probably my favourite Air b&b so far. Suffolk is a much under-rated County for walking and days out. We loved the house and the surrounding countryside. I cannot find anything negative to say, apart from the landlady in the Royal George is in the wrong business, she has no social skills. I am sure we will be back if we are welcome. Thank you and Happy New Year.

    Natalie2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy cottage

    Pauline2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent stay. Cottage was beautiful and super clean!!!! It was very well equipped. You can find almost anything that you need for your stay! Bed was comfortable and we really enjoyed the fireplace too. Thank you very much.

    Pei2019-11-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a place! What a great cottage! Everything we dreamed of, you must stay at this cottage, Ellen had so many touches to make it very cosy, lots of food cleaning products, lots of logs for the fire, a little gem, I would definitely go back. Thank you,

A contemporary, cosy detached annex tucked away privately in our garden, with unique outdoor forge area to relax and unwind. We are surrounded by beautiful Suffolk countryside and wildlife, with quiet roads and tracks for cycling and walking. We are just a 20 minute drive from the quaint market town of Bury St Edmunds and also within easy reach of Newmarket, Cambridge and Norwich.
The Lodge is a bright, warm, fresh living space, with bedroom, ensuite shower room, kitchen and sitting room. Patio doors open onto a private patio area with seating and BBQ facilities. Poppy Forge, especially for our guests use, is a unique outdoor covered area with a wood burning fireplace, great to sit outside and cosy up in the evenings.
We are located in a tiny hamlet but easily reached by car or bicycle. The villages surrounding us provide very good local amenities such as grocery shops, butchers, post office, tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and a Saturday morning farmers market.
  • This was our second stay. It's lovely and clean and has everything you need. It's in an extremely quiet area, easy to park and very private. The outside space is lovely too.

    Louise2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderful place to stay, very cosy and everything has been thought of. Loved the forge and so glad we got to use it. Would most definitely return

  • This was a last minute booking as I needed a place to stay whilst working late in Thetford. Jenny's place was perfect - cosy, comfortable and quiet which was much appreciated after a long day. Jenny has thought of all the small touches including supplying breakfast, tea, coffee and the essentials to use the kitchen. Additionally, there is the forge which I didn't use as it was cold and raining but which looked like a fun place to spend an evening. I'll definitely be booking Jenny's place again and thoroughly recommend you booking a stay there for the tranquility and relaxing atmosphere.

    Leena2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. Very clean and a helpful host. The space by the fire is fantastic.

    Philip2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Small but very comfortable, spotless and has everything you need. Although we didn't get to use the outside area it's really cute and well thought out. Extremely quiet location too which we loved.

    Louise2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We love Jenny's place. It's compact, has everything you need, is warm with some lovely touches. It's ideal as a place for a break, particularly if you love to walk and escape to the country. We throughly recommend it.

  • The cottage was fabulous , so warming , and cosy in a peaceful small village , david made it so welcoming for us, all the added touches were just perfect f or our stay thank you we shall definitely be back again

  • David's place is faultless, we loved spending New Year's here! The cottage has a really cosy and fresh feel to it, perfect for a short getaway. All of the amenities you would expect (and more!) were provided--we had prosecco left in the fridge for us, and tea set up in the living room complete with a selection of cakes and scones, tiptree jam with clotted cream also waiting in the fridge! The wood burner in the living room is also a really nice touch. Bardwell's a lovely little village and a short drive from Bury St. Edmunds if you want more to do. Would highly recommend!

    Warren2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Davids place is great, really comfortable and fabulously located in this lovely quiet suffolk village.

    Alexese2019-12-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place to stay! The cottage and village are both absolutely beautiful but the thing that makes this place extra-special is David’s hosting. The extra touches were an absolute treat! We only stayed for one night but agree that it’s absolutely one of our favourite Airbnb’s we have stayed in. Beautiful surroundings, very close to a lovely country pub - don’t hesitate to stay here!

    Becky2019-11-09T00:00:00Z
  • Do not hesitate to book here. The cottage is stunning everything you ciuld wish for and more.

    joanne2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn't have asked for more. This cottage is just perfect for a peaceful retreat. Quaint but surprisingly spacious rooms. You couldn't ask for more than two comfy recliners by a log burner on a cold rainy day but the afternoon tea and other treats David left for us just made our weekend extra special. This is a really standout airbnb and represents exceptional value. I couldn't recommend highly enough.

    Olly2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Really appreciated the little touches like the afternoon tea on arrival and the nice herbal tea in the cupboard. Great value for money and will definetely use again when next in the area.

    Daryl2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • David has got a fabulous Cottage. Its very stylishly renovated. He goes beyond, with the little touches, especially the cream tea waiting for you on arrival. The wife loves the cottage that much she would love to buy it! We might make an offer! Thank you David for a really memorable stay.

  • We stayed at Stable End for a month whilst awaiting to move into a house near by. A great space in the Suffolk countryside. Spotlessly clean and plenty of amenities for a really comfortable stay. Lots of local information provided, along with fresh eggs every few days! Underfloor heating was perfect as we sheltered from stormy winter weather. Julie and Anthony were brilliant hosts, giving you space but always on hand when needed. Only wish we could have stayed longer! (Was fully booked) I can see why others come back to Stable End year after year!

  • Stable end is a good spot for visiting Norfolk and Suffolk. The house is cosy and has everything you will need. Julie the host is very welcoming and she left us chocolates, wine and fresh eggs.

  • A magical place to stay for our family of four including our three and five-year old. We loved the ducks, geese, and woods out the back. And it was a brilliant jump-off point for places to visit around Suffolk. Highly recommended.

  • We had a fabulous stay at Stable End - stunning location and really lovely grounds, the kids loved seeing the chickens and ducks and we had fun playing in the paddock area too. A lovely little place for a relaxing holiday. Lauren and family

    Lauren2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this cottage when we had family come over a couple of weeks ago. The cottage and the surroundings were lovely. Julie had stocked the place with essentials plus extras which we really appreciated. The cottage is also stocked with games and dvds which kept the kids entertained when they weren't chasing the ducks and grouse outside. Couldn't have hoped for a better place. Thanks.

The double bed in bedroom one was perfect for me, so comfortable. My colleague said the single bed in bedroom two was ‘absolutely fine’. Bathroom was immaculately clean and shower was powerful enough. There is Wi-fi but never logged on so can’t comment how fast it is. • The standard of this accommodation is exceptional and it’s by far the best Airbnb we’ve stayed at. Immaculately clean, modern and a lovely place to stay. Comfy beds, good quality bed linen and towels. Thoughtful touches such as cake and fresh flowers on arrival. Fully equipped kitchen and basics such as bread, milk, eggs, cereals, coffee and tea left for us which were much appreciated. We enjoyed having the wood burning stove on in the evenings and loved the light airy space. Lovely view and rural location - nice for walks. Will be recommending to friends and would love to stay again if in the area. Thank you Caroline for your hospitality x

  • wow, wow, wow, wow this home is the best we have ever stayed in , Its super clean and super modern but feels so cosy . I must admit we dont normally book places that allow dog but based on the reviews I was prepared to take the risk, There was no evidence of this being a dog free zone Thankfully . We have nothing against dogs I may add . The space is out of this world ,The furnishings are of high quality and make the house a home .We stayed for only two nights but we have already booked a week in the summer .The outside space goes on and on the private back decking area is also a space we are looking forward to on our next visit, The beds and the bedding are of high quality as are the en suite bathrooms . Very kind welcome cake and basic supplies in the fridge ,eggs ,bread ,butter and milk .The log burner was a cosy extra to go home to after exploring Suffolk .We had two great meals out you do need a car to get to locations . You will be mad not to book this home . Caroline is a lovely warm welcoming lady , BOOK IT ,BOOK IT .

  • Great accommodation, Caroline was a great host. The place was spotless with everything we needed. We come back in the winter or summer. Fully recommended. 5 stars

    Paul2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This was the most amazing place to stay - if we could give Caroline more than 5 stars then we would! Everything that we needed was there for us with lots of little touches that make a stay just that little bit more special; a beautiful Christmas tree, fresh chocolate cake and even a bottle of bubbly to see in the New Year! The barn was beyond better than the photographs and was immaculate and clean; beautiful bed linen and comfortable beds. The kitchen had all that we needed and was again sparkly clean. We were very sad to leave this place and would highly recommend it to anyone. Thank you Caroline!!

Situated in the quietest of settings, in the beautiful rural county of Suffolk, enjoying views of the peaceful countryside from its idyllic isolated setting. From this restful hideaway one can explore the many local footpaths and lanes on foot or visit nearby attractions by car or bicycle. This is a landscape of windmills, churches and nature reserves, with steam attractions, sports' venues and a wealth of local shops, pubs and eateries easily accessible.
Hostlers Cottage is set within the curtilage of the listed farmhouse and has been designed in a sympathetic manner, retaining original oak beams and the introduction of new hand-crafted solid oak joinery features, some from wood sourced on site. As a purpose built conversion of original farm buildings, Hostlers has everything one would wish to find in a holiday home-from-home. As well as a well-appointed kitchen area, there is a separate utility area with washing machine and dish washer. The bathroom has the pampering features of a drench shower and a whirlpool bath with oodles of piping hot water. There are TVs with DVD players in both lounge and bedroom, and a small enclosed garden with dog-proof fencing and patio, table and chairs. Additionally, there is a covered BBQ area adjoining the cottage, ample parking and, uniquely, a decking area set in the middle of one of the ponds. Here one can soak up the rays or watch the sunset with a gin and tonic to hand. The high-ceiling and open-plan design gives the living area a spacious airy feel whilst, at the same time, there is a cosy comforting feel to this little gem of a country hideaway; ideal for romantic evenings for two away from the hubbub of modern life.
We are situated between Bury St Edmunds, Thetford and Diss. The beautiful Knettishall Heath with its wild ponies is just four miles away. The historic towns of Cambridge and Norwich are within an hour's drive, and the iconic coastlines of Norfolk or Suffolk make for a memorable day out.
  • If you are thinking of staying here, do. It is a a quiet, comfortable base from which to explore the area.

Lovely cottage in the small village of Hinderclay in the countryside with beautiful walks on the doorstep. 15 minutes from the market town of Diss with direct rail connection to London and 30 minutes from the beautiful Georgian town of Bury St Edmunds with its Regency theatre.

  • A lovely space with a homely feel and plentiful walks nearby!

    Eliot2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Already cannot wait to stay at Helen’s place again! Such a cosy space with lovely touches, from the fresh brownies and milk so we could have a cuppa when we arrived, to all the tips that were left for places to eat in the local area and lovely walks you could explore. The wood burner was already on when we arrived which made us feel super cosy and felt like walking in to a home. It is a space that has really been thought out well with no expense spared on the lovely decor and homely touches. The bed was very comfortable with nice linen but the highlight of our trip had to be waking up and opening the blinds to find wild rabbits playing right outside the windows. A car is a must as the location is quite remote, which is great for that country feel but still close enough to lovely towns and villages you can explore a few different places everyday which was great. We will definitely be back!

    Poppy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous place from the outside in... has everything you need. Very comfortable and stylish with a great atmosphere. Would definitely stay again. The WiFi didn’t work 100% but Helen and Graham were there for our every need! Amazing Hinderclay guide - we packed lots of interesting things in locally - all within a 20 minute drive. Perfect for a short stay in the peace and quiet.

    Skye2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We were so impressed with this beautiful house where we stayed on our weekend trip away from London. 10/10 for comfort, Helen’s done an amazing job to make this a place of relaxation, tranquility and happiness. Leaving the house on our daily trips away, it naturally felt like coming back to home to put on a log fire and enjoy the warmth of this accommodation.

Truly modern dwellings in our traditional Suffolk countryside. Relax in the new hot tub on the south-facing sun-deck while enjoying the privacy of your own secluded garden. Roll back the bi-fold doors as you lounge inside the shade of the lodge having discovered the local villages and country lanes. We only have four of these hand-built lodges within the grounds of our country home, and they are special buildings for our special guests, many of whom return, for a memorable stay. 3 nights min.
Your own place to chill in the heart of East Anglia, close to the attractive town of Bury St Edmunds. Designed by us to give our guests everything they need for a relaxing break, Oak Lodge at Upthorpe Lodges is one of four in a countryside location in its own private garden. We are in one of the UK's driest areas, and the sun deck has a gas bbq, sunloungers and dining table. If you really want to let the outside in, just roll back the bi-fold doors and enjoy! Note: This lodge now has a hot tub! Contemporary and funky, rural and peaceful, our lodge lets the sun pour in whilst the underfloor heating ensures comfort throughout the year. The kitchen is well equipped, including a dishwasher, full-size oven, and washing machine. Enjoy the large shower, the bedroom TV, and wake up overlooking the garden through the glazed bedroom doors. There is a Smart TV in the living room with Netflix included. The paved path from the car-park ensures same level entrance and exit from car to entrance door. Keys are kept in a coded locker to allow anytime arrival (after 4pm) and departure (before 10am). The car-park is off-road and is well lit for arrivals after dark. We prefer to allow guests complete independence whilst they enjoy our lodge, but we are always available if required, by text, phone or email. We live very close by in the neighbouring property. Why choose our location? Well it's bang in the middle of East Anglia, which we think is great for its wide landscapes, wild coasts and rural countryside. We could also mention the great little market towns nearby and the increasingly popular larger town of Bury St Edmunds. An hour's drive can take you to the small but fascinating and lively cities of Cambridge and Norwich, or Constable Country, the 'wool towns' or the coast. Getting here by public transport can be a bit tricky, but it can be done and we'll be happy to advise. Alternatively, bring your car, park it up, and explore on foot or borrow our two bikes! There's an extensive network of public footpaths and bridleways on our doorstep. There are many popular places to visit nearby; Banham Zoo, Wyken Vineyards, Go Ape, Thetford Forest, Cambridge, Norwich, and the Suffolk Heritage Coast to name just a few. Our page links to several local places, restaurants and attractions which can be enjoyed. We also have three other lodges, all with Hot tubs included in the price too - just enquire if interested.
We are set at the edge of a village, in Suffolk countryside with many lanes and footpaths on our doorstep. One of Suffolk's most highly rated restaurants (and cafe) The Leaping Hare, can be walked to on footpaths - a rewarding country walk! Cyclists have a number of country lane routes to choose from. However, shops and village life isn't far away with a village store less than a mile and a farm shop the other side of Stanton.
  • What an amazing place, the location is perfect and so so peaceful! It’s great if you want adventure followed by s relaxing evening in the hot tub! The accomadation was so clean and tidy with so much space and mini touches that made it extra special! We will definitely be returning! Thank you so much xxx

  • This lodge is a great place to stay. Would highly recommend to anyone and would love to stay again!

  • The oak lodge is an ideal quiet getaway with plenty of things to do within a short drive or walk. The lodge has everything you need whether its for a short weekend break or longer holiday and the hot tub is a bonus. I would definitely visit again.

  • Quiet, cosy and clean. Hot tub and private garden area are amazing, not overlooked at all. 25 mins to Bury St Ed’s and an hour to Cambridge and Norwich for days out. Kitchen had everything we needed and was very spacious. Highly recommend a stay here, exactly what we were looking for!

    Charlie2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • A little slice of paradise! The garden is beautiful- we really appreciated how much work must go into the outdoor space to keep it looking lovely. The lodge was sparkling clean- decor is simple and homely. We had everything we needed and really appreciated the little touches (local food/ drink, milk in the fridge, robes provided). The hot tub was blissful. A notebook is left out to encourage guests to recommend places to visit (a really nice touch), so we got plenty of ideas from there! We cannot recommend Oak Lodge enough- we can't wait to return.

    Bethany2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • A nice, neat and excellent place to stay. The hot tub is amazing as well as access to a barbecue which was lovely. Would recommend!

  • Oak lodge is a beautiful lodge. It is decorated beautifully with the addition of lovely touches such as fairy lights and flowers. The lodge is very private, meaning you can enjoy the use of the hot tub in peace. The hot tub was fantastic with a lovely view of the garden to admire also. Ian and Debbie are fantastic hosts, they communicate extremely well with out hassling you. It's nice to know they are nearby should you need any help. I can't recommend Upthorpe Lodges in general enough, it's the ultimate escape from reality, ever so relaxing and refreshing. My partner and I look forward to booking at one of there lodges in the future, and will most definitely be recommending to our friends and family. Thank you.

    Rebecca2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a perfect little spot for a couples weekend away! My partner and I spent out Anniversary weekend here, and it really was beautiful! So peaceful, the outside area is so cosy, and the little birds that come to visit whilst your laying there in the sun shine just tops it off! The lodge was clean to a high standard, and everything that you could need in a kitchen is there! Down to tea coffee and sugar! The lodge itself is super cosy of an evening when you want to stick a movie on just after dinner, before you jump into the hot tub and watch the stars! Truly beautiful! I would definatley recommend this to any couple wanting to get away from the hustle and bustle of life! I can say that we will definatley be back for sure! Thanks again Ian!

Our 2 storey Postmill Annexe is full of charm and character. It has an abundance of original beams and exposed bricks and a wood burner for chilly evenings. Within walking distance of amenities, (tea shop, butchers, pubs, church), and with miles of lovely footpaths from the doorstep.
Our two storey open plan annexe is the restored base of the village windmill. It is across the drive from our house, situated in a quiet cul-de-sac of 4 other houses. We have a meadow with a picnic table and an orchard, which guests are welcome to enjoy during their stay. Walsham-le-Willows is a beautiful village, with a tea shop, two pubs and an award winning butchers at its centre. We are a short drive, (or an hours cross country walk), from Wyken Hall with its beautiful gardens, lovely cafe and restaurant, and Saturday farmers market. There are other great walks to be had from our doorstep, and excellent cycling, suitable for all abilities, with only gentle rolling East Anglian hills.
Walsham-le-Willows is a picturesque Suffolk village, situated 15miles from Bury St Edmunds. We are a 12 minute drive from Elmswell, where there is an hourly train link to Cambridge and Ipswich.
  • The roundhouse is a beautiful place - cosy and welcoming, but remarkably spacious, and with so much character. Walsham is a great spot from which to explore the wider area, but we also wanted to have lots of time enjoying the roundhouse itself! Donna provided an excellent welcome and plenty of information, ensuring we had everything we needed for a great break. We’d thoroughly recommend a stay at the Roundhouse.

    Ben2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous stay in a truly unique setting. Cosy, quaint, 5*. Lovely personalised touches from Donna including a book on local attractions, food options etc. Lovely log burner and breakfast items provided. Contactable and approachable without being on top of her guests.

  • Fabulous location, amazing accommodation, finishing touches were perfect - altogether a beautiful place to stay

    Nadine2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • On our way back from Donna's lovely old windmill in Walsham-le-Willows, The Roundhouse is a very pleasant rustic place in a peaceful area in the wilds of Norfolk. Honestly, once you've shut yourself in you can barely hear a thing, bar the infrequent crunch of the residents on gravel, even the church bells are barely a tinkle. If rustic and homely is your thing, you're in for a treat. Though a large and open space, heating options in the winter are plentiful and efficient and the facilities tick all the boxes. There is no kitchen as such, rather a breakfast bar arrangement but plenty of space if you brought in dinner with you. Bed & bathroom are unique, comfortable and useable, be mindful of the macerator toilet and follow the rules 😉 and you'll not go wrong. Shower is hot, basin is huge and there's a futon in the bedroom too. Wood burner downstairs is a delight, though we obviously need practice 🙄 and the split barn door is a lovely touch - in the summer it would let in lots of warmth whilst maintaining privacy. We'll be back to explore this possibility along with the local walks and surrounding area.

  • It was a great weekend, I couldn’t fault the whole experience.

The Stables is an ideal place for a couple looking to get away to the countryside. It has one big bedroom with a super king size bed and luxury linens. The kitchen is the size and standard of a commercial kitchen, even if it may only be used for a delicious meal for two. The lodge is located on a beautiful estate close to the main house. There are alluring paths for country walks. The Dog, pub, is less than a mile away. With Bury St Edmunds located less than 10 miles away.
Wyken Vineyard is within 5 miles. They have a very nice restaurant, cafe and book store on the premises, with the opportunity for walks as well.

  • Wow! What a fantastic place to stay! The pictures alone don't do enough justice to just how amazing this place is. From a very friendly welcome and a tour round on our arrival by Kelly to her partner Stephen coming to help us with a last minute technical issue, we couldn't have felt more welcomed! This place is definitely a luxury stay and was perfect for our weekend away. With 2 log fireplaces, one being in the bedroom, perfect for the cold evenings (which even without would not be a problem as there is underfloor heating throughout keeping everything super toasty!). The decoration including lots of taxidermy throughout was fascinating and kept us talking throughout our stay. Would definitely return again!

  • This is our second trip here and this time was even more special. Kelly’s hosting was fantastic. She had helped my partner organise a lovely surprise of a marriage proposal when I got there. She really did go the extra mile and made the event even more special. The house is great and going for a second time meant we knew what was there. The house is clean with great touches that I have not found anywhere else. I would highly recommend it. We will return again. Xx

A peaceful country cottage overlooking a vineyard to the front and ancient oak woodland behind. The award winning Leaping Hare Restaurant, housed in a 14th century barn and serving wines from the vineyard, is a short walk away through the woodland. The Wyken farmer’s market, voted in the top 10 in the country and held every Saturday is also a short walk away.
The cottage sleeps 6 comfortably. The master double bedroom has an en-suite dressing room and bathroom with a free-standing bath. There is a twin room and another double that share a bathroom with a bath and shower. The kitchen has a professional grade gas oven and is fully equipped. There is a scullery next door with a dishwasher and washing machine. The sitting room has a wood-burning stove and there is a separate study with a desk and television. There is also a downstairs loo.
Situated on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, we are 8 miles from the historic market town of Bury St Edmunds with its medieval abbey and boutique shops and restaurants. There are a wealth of National Trust and English Heritage properties within the region. Cambridge is a 45 minute drive away and the seaside towns of Aldeburgh and Southwold are under an hour.
  • Perfect for a special gathering and great things to do (and eat) nearby.

    Christian2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • It is an impressive arrival to this pretty house. And inside it feels so much bigger: a warren of rooms! Especially lovely are the cosy sitting-room with log burner. perfect for some relaxing chat with a bottle of wine and plenty of comfy seats. Also loved the long table in the open dining room with big views out and onto the fields and vines (currently in winter mode) beyond. Its a big property and we stayed in the colder month of February, but with the central heating on and the woodburner going we were entirely cosy and warm. Theres a v large utility room plus a well stocked kitchen with essential and useful condiments. All the beds we slept in were comfortable - everyone got really good nights of sleep. The whole place is tastefully decorated in an attractive eclectic style. Only turn off for me was the amount of dead skulls and stuffed animals heads about the place. but if hunting is your thing, you'll be happy - theres even a copy of The Shooting Times beside the bed!

The barn provides spacious, well-equipped accommodation in extensive gardens in the Suffolk countryside with easy access to the historic town of Bury St Edmunds. This is a unique and very spacious barn providing sumptuous accommodation. There is a private driveway and ample parking. Use of tennis court by arrangement with owner. The kitchen is well equipped with a large range cooker, a microwave (in the utility room) and a dishwasher. There is plenty of room to eat in the kitchen with a large table and chairs and two sofas. Truly modern dwellings in traditional Suffolk countryside. Relax in the luxurious Beachcomber hot tub on the south-facing sun-deck while enjoying the privacy of your own secluded garden. Roll back the bi-fold doors as you lounge inside the shade of the lodge having discovered the local villages and country lanes. We only have four of these hand-built lodges within the grounds of our country home, and they are special buildings for our special guests, many of whom return, for a memorable stay.
Please note that our minimum stay duration is for 3 nights and we regret that we do not permit children or pets.
We're on the outskirts of a largish Suffolk village. Stanton is well served, with bakers, village store, village pub, farm shop & deli. There are countryside walks from here and many country lanes and traditional Suffolk villages to explore.
  • We had a super relaxing break at Maple Lodge. It is warm comfortable and stylish and has everything you can think of. The hot tub is lovely and being able to borrow bikes was good too.

Peaceful, tranquil, beautiful countryside with miles of byways, bridleways and single track quiet country roads perfect for cycling or long walks.
  • This is such a beautiful house and a great place to hang out with friends and family. The kitchen is the heart of the house and we spent most of our time huddled around the island or sitting at the big table eating, drinking and playing games. The kids loved the loft room although coming back down the stairs is not for the faint-hearted! Great hosts, great house, highly recommended.

  • Fantastic property, loads of character and a great place to spend NY with friends

    Robert2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Booked this house for four families as a Christmas country getaway. Our kids ranged from 6 yrs to 6 months and had everything they needed for a great stay; the house was well stocked with games, DVDs, all the kids channels and the outside space was great for them to explore safely. We loved the house, but I imagine this place to be great in the summer when you can make use of the swimming pool and spend more time outdoors. The house was good for the adults too! Large kitchen dining area, lounge with wood burner and comfy beds. Our hosts did as much as they could to accommodate us and there were some goodies for us upon our arrival. Have already recommended it to friends and would happily stay again. Thank you!

    James2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you are reading this review as you are undecided whether to book or not - please do not delay. From our arrival at the farmhouse to our departure three days later we had the most amazing time. The facilities are great and the house itself is beautiful, with quirky staircases to the top floor. Having looked around the house initially we then spent 15 minutes trying to find a bedroom we had seen but then seemed to disappear! We were a party of 10 (8 adults and 2 children) but the house never seemed cramped for space. There are lots of areas for groups to sit, relax and laugh over a glass or two. We were incredibly lucky with the weather in November (8-11) and were able to use the hot tub. The front of the house is a sun trap and so garden chairs were moved around to the front along with the table tennis table to enjoy the sunshine. The log burner created a welcoming feature for the evenings and the play room/cinema room was great. All in all this was a fantastic weekend, spent with great friends in a very special farmhouse. We will be booking again in the future. Thank you to our hosts Gareth and Victoria.

  • We visited this beautiful house for 3 nights during half term school holidays. The house was perfect for our group of 6 adults & 6 kids... the tennis court, the garden, the pool, the hot tub and all the inside games, movies, etc were just perfect to keep everyone entertained. This is a beautiful spot surrounded by gorgeous walks, runs and bike rides - we absolutely loved our stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others looking for a get away to Suffolk.
