  • Clive is a great host and five springs was a fantastic space!! Thank you

    Adam2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Set in spectacular scenery the cottage is a little piece of heaven in the Welsh countryside. Clive was helpful from the first communication and continued to be as we settled in. We were then left alone in private, safe in the knowledge if we needed him, he was just next door. The cottage itself is stunning, with all the amenities you expect, and then some. I could go on about the jacuzzi and the sauna (which were both very heavily utilised during our stay), but it's the little things, like helpful hints about the area, books and DVDs and fresh free range eggs that mades the stay so special. The sheer tranquility of the place is evident by the wild stag and deer that visit the garden, and are a sight to behold. My wife and I had just got married the day before we arrived at the cottage, and this was the perfect start to our honeymoon, and to our life together. I cannot recommend Clive and his stunning home highly enough.

  • Five Springs is a lovely place to stay while exploring the local woodlands, we'd be happy to return!

    Michael2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is beautiful and spotlessly clean with everything you might need. Clive has invested lots of time to provide information about the local area and maps etc which was so valuable and much appreciated. We loved the spa room and after a long walk a sauna and jacuzzi were the perfect way to end the day. There are lots of thoughtful touches throughout the cottage that also enhanced our stay. The local area is beautiful for walking and the Brecons within easy reach. There is so much to do and we would love to visit again and explore more of the area. Clive was a fantastic host and it was a pleasure to visit and we will be hoping to book again very soon.

    Hannah2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage great facilities and a great host. It is wonderful place which would be great at anytime of year but autumn winter Spring with an excuse to get the log burner going makes it all the better. We will be back.

  • A really lovely place to stay as a big group with great hosts

    Sarah2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • A great place to stay with plenty of open space the house was clean and lots of small touches made it a lovely stay. There was plenty of space for 30 to come for a Sunday Lunch.

    Barry2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Claire and Andrew's. 14 adults, 2 children and a dog and we all felt like we had enough space. Claire and Andrew were on hand to help with any questions during our stay and provided some thoughtful touches for the birthday girl too.

    Ross2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Claire and Andrew’s property. They were great hosts and the house was perfect for a big family weekend away. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space. The hot tub was a real highlight! Would definitely recommend!

    Brian2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect escape for a group holiday. Andy was super, made everyone feel very welcome, would go back!

    Michael2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Maesbrook is a fantastic place to stay as a large group. Claire and Andrew recommended great caterers to come in and cook an evening meal. The extra space in the events room meant that we could all get together for a sit down meal and have a room to play some hen do games. Claire and Andrew were on hand to take in our shopping (and put it away for us, which was so lovely to arrive to), and were easily available if we had any questions. Both the smaller cottage and the main house are wonderful spaces - we’ll definitely be back!

    Sarah2019-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had the best time! An outstanding property, finished to a very high standard and extremely clean and comfortable. We had 13 people and a dog in our party and everything was set up to handle a big group. The log burner in the sitting room was a particular favourite as we all sat round in an evening and the large dining table perfect for playing board games. There was an issue with the water supply to the property while we were there due to nearby water works. Claire and Andrew handled it expertly and did all they could to ensure minimal impact on our stay. They were superb hosts and we very much hope to be back in the future. Thank you!

The Cabin is suitable for 2/4 people, open living/bedroom area/kitchen and private en-suite bathroom. Private decking, outdoor seating & fire pit. Apple Tree Cabin combines luxury with nature. Enjoy your welsh cakes, and unwind with views of the lovely countryside. We do not accept PETS, HENs/STAGs parties or TENTS.
Drive through a track that runs beside an open field in the countryside to our entrance. We have a large parking area where you leave your vehicle, follow the stone path down to Apple Tree Cabin. The cabin is 13sqm in size (not including the ensuite) which is much larger than an average camping pod. Guests that have stayed are surprised at how big the space is, please read reviews. The cabin has everything you need to make your stay comfortable, including coffee maker, hot water bottles, hot water, electric shower and flushing mains toilet. The Cabin has amazing views of the surrounding countryside, sit outside for breakfast on your own private decking or evenings toasting marshmallows star gazing around your private fire pit. On arrival you will have fresh eggs from the farm next door, welsh cakes & milk. There is a kettle, toaster, Nespresso machine, 2 ring hob burner and a small fridge within the cabin. A small tv that plays only DVDs with a selection of films suitable for children and adults. There are board games & outdoor games to use and have fun. There is plenty of space to relax and unwind. We regularly see different types of wildlife including Otters, Fox, Squirrel, Badgers, Herons, Woodpeckers & Pheasants. There are only 2 cabins. It is very peaceful and therefore we would not accept high levels of noise. We have our own private house and area away from the cabin out of view. Follow us on Instagram @monmouthcabins

  • The cabin was very cosy, and was incredibly warm once the cold weather hit later during the evening. It was extremely clean and the board games were a nice extra touch.

  • My partner and I had an absolutely wonderful stay here. The cabin is beautiful and cozy and has lots of little touches that make it really homely and special. It’s perfect for a little couples getaway. The location is great too, the surroundings are lovely and peaceful but it is also incredibly easy to get to Monmouth town centre where there is lots to do. Louise and Kenton were great hosts, very helpful whenever we had any questions and always quick to reply. Would highly recommend!

Despite the weather, we managed to enjoy the hot tub a lot, a really good addition to be property. As mentioned in a previous review, remember to bring warm socks or slippers as it can be a little chilly on your feet!

A tranquil haven to escape to and lose yourself in the beauty of nature waiting on your doorstep. Your 1 acre garden has places to relax, free range chickens (eggs for breakfast!) roaming, a bee hive and is full of interesting trees and wildlife. The picturesque Whitebrook stream runs the length of the garden and you can clamber down and explore. Our 18th century stone-built cosy cottage is ideal for 2 with open plan kitchen/dining/living & double bedroom/ensuite shower. 15 minutes to Monmouth.
Our newly renovated cosy getaway is perfect for 2 people looking for a short or long break, fab for exploring the Wye Valley and convenient if attending local functions or visiting friends/family. Singles, couples, friends and families all welcome and we do have an additional double bed settee in the lounge/diner/kitchen and 2 chair beds in the bedroom. A simple breakfast is provided in the annexe and includes milk, cereal, bread & jams/marmalades. Tea and coffee supplies also provided. Mobile reception is patchy, there is a landline in the house should you need it. Wi-fi isn't available yet!
A fab and picturesque village with real character set in a valley with a pretty stream running down to the river Wye. "The Whitebrook" the village's very own fab Michelin starred restaurant is 300m down the road from us - great for special occasions. "The Boat" at Redbrook is a great bike ride away (bit tough riding back up the hill!) but well worth the cycle (or you can drive) - an old traditional Inn with log burners nestling on the banks of the Wye - local ales/ciders and simple pub food. Walking, mountain biking (great off-road tracks), road cycling, kayaking, canoeing are all either on our own doorstep or on the doorstep of the village. The old castle towns of Monmouth, Abergavenny and Chepstow are short drives away with an abundance of beautiful villages, walks and country eateries scattered throughout.
  • Tina and Liv's place is wonderful, can't recommend it highly enough. In reality it looks even nicer than in the photos. It is a cosy cottage, very clean and warm, and with lots of lovely touches. It has a very nice garden one can use, with a stream running by, surrounded by beautiful pine trees. The location is ideal for various walks and sightseeing in local villages. Check in and check out were very easy as well. Definitely would love to stay there again :)

    Denitsa2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful country stay! FYI no cell service 10 minutes before you get close and no wifi/cell signal. I had a great walk and morning cold water stream plunge which made it all worth it! As described, but host needs to refresh the space - a few things didn't work (the light above the hob and the cable and dvd player (no wifi so this was a big deal!). All in all, a gorgeous place. Recommend and would stay again.

    Angela2020-03-05T00:00:00Z

  • We had an amazing weekend celebrating my 30th birthday at Helen’s house. Communication was great in the run up and the directions allowed us to find it with no problems. The views are absolutely stunning (constantly changing in the clouds, sun and rain!) and you can enjoy them from the hot tub! We also went walking around the area and enjoyed the countryside. There were 12 of us and all commented how nice the house was and how much space there was. The kitchen was well equipped and we used the dining room for a murder mystery dinner in the evening, and plenty of room for chilling out in the living room afterwards. Thoughtful touches like the card and chocolates were really appreciated and we will definitely be recommending this place! Thank you :)

  • This house is actually much bigger inside than it appears in the photos. A great house for a group visit, plenty of different social spaces, incredible views, and spacious bedrooms. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as a group this weekend and would recommend this property to others, too! 5 Stars.

    Paul2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Such a stunning house, thoughtfully decorated and furnished with plenty of room for all our guests. Helen was a thoroughly delightful host who was attentive and helpful, going the extra mile to help us. Scenery spectacular and we loved the hot tub, thank you so much.

    Natalie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • There were 17 of us who came to stay at this Airbnb and there was plenty of space for everyone! The living area was big enough to seat everyone and so was the dinner table along with plenty of everything to make meals there for such a large group. The views from the house are stunning and we all went on walks and runs from the house. Helen was so accommodating and gave local tips e.g. pubs to go to which I booked in advance for our large group and was such a good lunch. This Airbnb was such a good find and we really appreciated the amenities and the hot tub! :)

  • A beautiful house in the welsh countryside with stunning views. The house easily accommodated 12 adults with plenty of space. The house is clean and well equipped for cooking for large groups. Helen was very helpful and quick to reply. The hot tub is a real treat.

  • I booked this for my 30th birthday and stayed the weekend. We were a group of 12 and the house was a perfect size with plenty of space for all of us. The house is really nice and Helen was so helpful and friendly. We all had a great time and I would definitely recommend this as a great place to stay.

    Jodie2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place is a quiet part of the country. Great for a getaway. Helen was very responsive and helpful.

    Sam2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Helen‘s place is wonderful. We stayed as a family of 3 generations over Xmas. The whole family had an amazing time - the grandchildren didn’t want to leave, the grandparents were overjoyed, and everyone was so impressed with the space and everything in it! (Helen even provided the tree). Clean, bright, warm, secluded, with walks all around and even a hot tub. Can we move in? Thank you so much, Helen!

Underdean Lodge is a lovingly restored 2 double bedroom Georgian lodge on the edge of the Forest of Dean and is the perfect base for exploring both the Forest and the Wye Valley. The lodge includes beautiful period features and a wood burning stove. Dogs welcome. Footpaths lead to the Forest from the front door. We are ideally located adjacent to the A48 for convenient access to Gloucester, Monmouth and Chepstow which are all about 25 minutes away. View 'The Space' for Covid-19 measures taken.
We have restored this Grade 2 listed Georgian gate house sympathetically but with all the modern touches one requires for a comfortable stay away from home. The lodge is warm and cosy and despite its proximity to the road, is extremely quiet, thanks to high quality secondary and double glazing throughout. The house is decorated throughout with prints and photos of the surrounding area and we have a large map in the kitchen to help you plan your days out and country walks. COVID-19 UPDATE: Here is some additional information about the lodge in light of recent government announcements. We hope these put your mind at rest and show that you can still visit yet stay within current rules. - The lodge is located at least 30m from our house and more than 100m from any other neighbours. It also has it's own private parking area. - There are walks into the open countryside direct from the door. - Many of our guests have received online shopping deliveries to the lodge in the past so we know this is possible. - The lodge will be fully aired between guests. - We've implemented a new, even more rigorous, cleaning regime ensuring that all surfaces are throroughly washed with a bleach based cleaning fluid and we wash bedding in Dettol anti bacterial washing detergent (sensitive).
Breathtaking views of the River Severn are accessible just a few minutes walk from the Lodge and for those who want to go further, Forest walks are a 15 minute walk away down a pretty country lane. The Lodge is the ideal base from which to explore the Forest with multiple walks and amenities within the Forest, such as GO APE!, just a 10 minute drive away. The Cock Inn in Blakeney is a superb friendly local with a welcoming fire, lovely beer garden and terrific food as well. Blakeney is also served by a nice Italian restaurant, Dolce Vita, and a decent Fish & Chip Shop. Newnham is also only a couple of miles away. This, again, offers a range of pubs, a great cafe and some lovely shops in which to browse. There is also an excellent local butcher (open on Fridays and Saturdays). Lydney (10 minutes drive away) has a Tesco and Co-op and all the shops and services you'd expect from a mid sized town.
  • A great little cottage in a good location with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The log burner was easy to use and was a cozy addition to the evenings. TV is a little on the small side but this only really mattered in the evenings and most of the time we were too tired from the days activities to bother with it and opted for wine instead! Shower was good and beds comfortable. Perfect accommodation for dogs too as can isolate them from certain areas which was perfect for our puppy. All in all a great stay and good value for money.

    Lucy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing place. Really easy check in process and all the information ready to go. A nice cozy lodge perfect for a country getaway! And even better that it was dog friendly!! Definitely recommend.

  • A lovely quaint and cozy lodge, brilliantly placed for the forest and all it can offer. Great hosts who keep you informed bit leave you to it in the right way. Would definitely recommend and use again. Don’t miss out on this one.

  • Great little get away in the forest of dean

    Luke2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay with so many beautiful places to visit so close by. We were recommended by Chris and Beth to visit Beechenhurst and Perrygrove railworld which were great places to visit with our toddler. We had many gorgeous walks with our dog in toe too, would definitely recommend a trip to Symonds Yat Rock, beautiful views and walks! We would love to come back in spring/summer when all the trees have their leaves, a truly beautiful part of the world! Underdean Lodge was already fitted with stair gates making it safe for our toddler, a cute place to stay for a long weekend, thank you again for having us!!

  • Great place for a break away

    Jamie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A beautifully restored gatehouse lodge held in natural woodland with plenty of places to visit in the surrounding area. Beth and Chris were absolutely wonderful hosts; making sure that we had everything we needed with attention to every detail. They made lots of personal touches; sharing local information and bringing extra wood to us for the fire. All in all a thoroughly restorative retreat and base from which you can easily explore the Forest of Dean and Wye Valley.

  • A fantastic little spot for a weekend away with the dog. Great local tips and a walking route mapped out. Log burner was the best part for us as we’re not lucky enough to have one at home. Great communication by both Chris and Beth who got back to us really quick with questions we had. Would recommend to anyone looking for a quaint getaway from the hustle and bustle of bigger towns/cities.

  • The cottage was beautiful, cosy and had possibly one of the best equipped kitchens. Jenny and Jemima had put the heating on so that when we arrived in the late evening, we could cuddle up straight away with a glass of wine. There were some lovely touches with milk, eggs and biscuits there for us to use. There was a folder full of info on the cottage and excellent tips on the local area. On our second day we were able to walk straight from the cottage out towards the Wye Valley, completing a loop along Offa's Dyke to Tintern and then back along the Wye Valley Walk. Well worth it! Lovely place to stay - you'd be daft not to book!

    Kathryn2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely brilliant time at Puzzle Tree. The welcome was immediate and appreciated. The cottage was spotless, beautiful and with all the amenities you would expect plus more. Jenny and Jemima have created a warm and comfortable space to escape from it all and the added touches like milk, welcoming chocolates and the easy to use information book were greatly appreciated. This cottage is also located close to beautiful walks and places of historical importance like Tintern Abbey, definitely worth a look if not yet seen. We can highly recommend a break at Puzzle Tree Cottage. Thanks again for a wonderful stay.

  • We had such a relaxing and wonderful stay at puzzle tree cottage. It was a warm and cosy place, well stocked with lots of thoughtful touches. Lovely views and wildlife around. The hosts J and J were incredibly friendly and easy to reach if needed. We would love to visit again!

    Marie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Jenny and Jemimas place is a beautifully appointed. It has everything you could possibly need for a perfect stay. It was spotlessly clean and had obviously been well thought through. The location is off the beaten track charming. With peace and quiet if you want it, but plenty to do if you want to explore. I would thoroughly recommend

    David2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The place is spotlessly clean, everything you need in the kitchen, a bed you don't want to get out of, washing machine and easy to work heating to dry your riding clothes. Oh, did I mention I'm a mountain biker? there's Forest of Dean on the door step, Black mountains and Cwmcarn less then an hour away, Afan and BPW a bit further. There's a space to store the bikes and a hose to wash them. Not a place for you if you want to check your FB every 5 mins as there's no phone signal or wifi in the cottage (you can pick up a weak signal just outside or use Jenny's landline in an emergency. We'll be going back there later this year.

  • Wonderful cozy cottage in fabulous location. Wonderful to be able to step outside and walk to Offas Dyke.

    Adrian2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cosy, peaceful and relaxing place to stay. We absolutely loved our time here and would recommend it to anyone 😊

    Paige2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had a really relaxing chilled out time at Puzzle Tree cottage. The cottage is warm and cosy, set in extensive grounds, in beautiful countryside yet near to surrounding places of interest. The hosts, Jenny and Jemima were so welcoming and helpful, even giving us a lift to the pub to save us getting a taxi! I would definitely stay here again.

The farm shop is amazing, and there's really no need to go anywhere else, except if you fancy a walk around, there is a beautiful estate and many great walks. We had a lovely time, thank you Clare.

We are situated less than a mile away from the village of St Briavels. It is a vibrant little village in the Forest of Dean, on the edge of the beautiful Wye Valley. It has an inn, an art gallery, a deli, a church and a castle. A monthly farmers' market is held in the village on the first Saturday morning of every month, where you can buy a whole range of local produce, including bread and cakes, cider and real ale, fish, and speciality meats.
The lodge is an annexe next to 150 year old cottage - close to Offas Dyke path and Wye Valley. The accommodation is a galleried open plan loft space with private shower room, kingsize bed, single bed and a Z bed to accommodate a 4th guest, if required. There is also a seating/lounge/tv area. Own private entrance. There is a cooking area with a double plate electric hob, a microwave/small oven, a toaster, a mini fridge and a kettle. We will take your washing up and put it through the dishwasher in the main cottage. There is free wifi, but, due to our location, it can be quite patchy. The annex also has it's own private lawned garden, with a seating area - you are more than welcome to bring a disposable BBQ. along. There is also a lovely village pub less than a mile away which serves a range of delicious meals, next to St Briavels Castle. There is also a deli/small café in the village, along with a park and tennis courts. From 2020, we will also be offering a "Bring your horse on holiday" option. We have room for 2 horses at the property. Prices to follow soon.
Discover things to do in or near St Briavels: The Forest of Dean and Wye Valley is home to a great range of attractions - some man-made, some completely natural but all of them well worth a visit. You may wish to discover the area's history, or enjoy a stroll around a nature reserve. There’s an array of family oriented attractions where you can all have fun, relax or enjoy some animal magic. On rainy days there’s also plenty to do from museums to caves or how about spending some time riding a steam train through the forest or taking a cruise down the River Wye. There really is no shortage of ideas for things to see and do in the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean Christmas time and Clearwell Caves is the place to be. Their themed ‘Christmas Fantasy’ always comes up trumps and they never fail to deliver an awesome display that can be enjoyed by the whole family. At various times throughout the year keep an eye out for other inspirational theatre and musical events at Clearwell Caves – the setting is so unique it makes the shows very special. Father Christmas also sets up his grotto at Beechenhurst and Puzzlewood near Coleford.
  • Cosy, private space in St Briavels. Hosts were very welcoming and quick to respond. Perfectly located for hiking, cycling and trail running. Would love to go back.

  • A very nice place to stay for a much needed getaway. Keren was a wonderful host. We could not have asked for a more enjoyable experience.

    Nick2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Keren couldn't have been kinder and it is in a wonderful location, really peaceful yet convenient for the local area. The room is cosy and warm and you have your own garden space - lovely.

    Sue2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Large loft space, very comfortable. Lovely hosts, very accommodating and approachable. Good location, good value. Lanes are dark in the Winter so take torches if you are going to walk the mile to the pub. Contact the hosts by phone (as we did) as the Sat Nav brings you to the village but not direct to the property - they gave us great directions to get to them and left a light on for us.

  • Keren and Lindon were super welcoming and friendly & their place exactly what my mum and I needed to spend a lovely weekend away in this beautiful area! Would definitely recommend!

  • The lodge is a fantastic base, spacious, peaceful and remote on the edge of the Forest of Dean. It is clean, light and comfy, with many easily accessible walks in the Forest, or a little further afield the Brecon Beacons beckon... Tintern Abbey is also only 15 minutes drive away, and there are amazing walks along the valley. This is my second visit, and I intend to come back again - Keren is a great host and this place is a gem.

Stunning views across the Wye Valley, a wood burner, oak-framed open-plan living and a warm welcome await you at the Donkey Shed.
The main living space is double height with kitchen, sitting and dining all enjoying the spectacular view. The burner will warm you if it is chilly out and we'll make sure you are well stocked with logs throughout your stay. We also provide a couple of bottles of excellent ale from our favourite local brewery on your arrival. Upstairs on a mezzanine is a king bed and rocking chair warmed by the wood burner flue. Downstairs is a cosy bunk room with shelves stacked with decent novels. The bathroom is across the hall. With separate shower and enormous bath tub wrapped in marble, we also provide Honey Bee Beautiful organic soap and bubble bath foam, both made locally. Outside there are seating areas all with fantastic views - there's a sunny corner to read the morning paper, a table on the patio directly outside the front door to enjoy a meal, a picnic table amongst the wildflowers and a bench with a buzzard's eye view of the river, all within 30 minutes of the M4/M5 interchange.
Step out of the door and onto the Wye Valley Walk. Explore ancient woodlands, carpets of bluebells, wildflower meadows, autumn leaves and frosty winter mornings. Head down to the river to join Offa's Dyke. Head up to Beacon View and take in the Brecon Beacons. Monmouthshire has some great pubs and Michelin starred restaurants. The Whitebrook Restaurant is 10 minutes by car (or a lovely walk), the Inn at Penallt, Walnut Tree, Hardwick Arms, Bell at Skenfrith and Kingstone Brewery are all within reach. Well situated for Abergavenny Food Festival, Green Man and Hay-on-Wye Literary Festival. Visit Tintern Abbey or explore the castles of the Welsh Marches. Also a great spot for taking in Monmouthshire's beautiful and inspiring open gardens. The Black Mountains are 35 minutes away, the Brecon Beacons are 1 hour. Please ask for some of our favourite routes - walking or mountain biking. Canoe the River Wye - there are several canoe hire outlets in Monmouth who also provide guiding. One of the last slips just before the river turns tidal is below your window. Local fishing is also very good, please see the wyeuskfoundation for further details. Road cycling - including the alpine Lydart ascent from Monmouth is nearby. Mountain Biking - home of Dirt magazine, ask Hugh about local singletrack and some of his favourite routes. We provide a clean up station to wash the mud off if you need it. Visit the local rare breeds smallholding, Humble by Nature and take a course in rural skills. Go Ape in the Forest of Dean or get lost in Puzzlewood, climb Symonds Yat Rock and get back to nature with Forest Bushcraft.
  • We experienced all the weather & four seasons within a few days! The Valley is breathtaking, so if you love to see rainbow after rainbows, this is the place to be! The donkey shed is very spacious yet cozy, you can’t go wrong with enjoying the amazing view with a wood burner crackling beside you! The B/country roads were as you would expect, but it’s very well maintained even in the remote locations. We actually enjoyed the drive there too. We would 100% recommend the donkey shed!

  • This place is a little gem. We stayed as 2 couples, there is only one bedroom however the bed settees are very comfortable and easy to pull out and put away so don't let that put you off. Good base to explore Forest of Dean, get a train from lydney to Cardiff if you fancy a trip. Great food near by in Sling - the miners arm, the Ore Pool doesn't look much from the outside but food excellent. Would recommend this property.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Retreat. Well located for exploring the Wye Valley and the place itself was very comfortable and well equipped for our every needs. Scones, jam and clotted cream on arrival was a lovely touch. Would love to come and visit again in the summer months. We visited the local pub (the George) on the Saturday evening and were all blown away by the food. Good value, big portions and super tasty. Thank you. Nick, Kate and Ru x

  • Myself and my two sisters had a lovely weekend at The Retreat. It was such a lovely and relaxing space, overlooking a beautiful garden. The sunny corner dining table was such a lovely spot for mealtimes! The beds were comfy, the rooms warm and cosy. The kitchen was very well equipped too, and Carolyn was kind enough to leave scones and Welsh cakes for our arrival, as well as flowers on the table - lovely thoughtful touches, which were much appreciated. The location was perfect for exploring the local area too. We would definitely come back!

    Jasmin2019-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much for a wonderful stay Carolyn. The Retreat was perfect in every way and just what we needed for the last few days. Carolyn was an exceptional host who found local taxi company details for us to use and a hairdresser to come and do my hair for a wedding. Carolyn went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. We hope to be back again one day :)

  • Excellent find; ideal location with lovely views across the valley. Perfect spot for walking, and lots of maps/walking books in the kitchen which we made good use of. The apartment had everything we needed, and was clean on our arrival. Mike sent through all the details we needed in good time, and it was a hassle-free stay. The apartment is really spacious - there were only two of us but even with four people there is plenty of space, with a large kitchen area, with sofas, plus another lounge with more sofas and a large dining table, and two bathrooms.

This is Bertie! A lovely converted vintage horse box set in 1 1/2 acres. There’s a woodburner and a small electric heater in the van so you’ll be cosy over winter. The main kitchen is outside but there’s a hob in Bertie too. There’s also a fire pit to sit around, a compost loo and electric shower (in wooden structure so potentially a bit chilly in winter!) . Bertie is in St Briavels, between the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. Price includes wood for fires and use of beautiful grounds.
Bertie is a gorgeous old boy! He's beautiful but he is a bit rustic too so only come and visit him if you enjoy the outdoors. The bed is up a set of steps, see pics, so just to make you aware you'll be climbing up to get into your cosy nook. He lives in an old quarry with beautiful limestone walls and is covered with trees. It's a fab place to just hang out and relax, make fires, cook and generally get away from the hectic pace of every day life. Please note that we have wifi up at the house and you are welcome to walk up and login, but it doesn't extend to Bertie. It's a long way down!
St Briavels is on the edge of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, on the Welsh border. It's a great place to access endless walks in both the valley along the river and the thousands of acres of forest, there's canoeing on the Wye and if you want something a little more urban we're about an hour from Bristol or Cardiff. You can walk to the local pub the George for drinks or a meal and the village has a little deli shop. We're about 15 minutes from both Chepstow and Monmouth for a bit of shopping or lunch out. Or you might just prefer to hang out in the quarry by the fire :)
  • This is a really lovely place to stay. The horsebox is really cosy with plenty of room for a weekend away. The outdoor kitchen is a great addition and a nice space to cook, really close to the firepit area, which has seating all around. The compost toilet and outdoor shower may not be for everyone but both were exceptionally clean. I would thoroughly recommend this place. I stayed with my daughter (8 years old), just the two of us. It was lovely.

  • A really great, cosy place to stay. George and Al were really welcoming, the site is beautiful and quiet, and there are great walks from right out of the door with some great local tips!

  • Extremely cosy little spot. Georgie and Al were both really friendly and flexible when we ended up arriving later than we expected. Loved the electric blankets in the bed, it got chilly!

  • Lovely, quirky horse box which we had a lovely weekend away in! The weather wasnt the best but with a roaring log fire and the electric blankets on the bed turned on we had a very cozy weekend.

  • my partner and I had the most wonderful experience - what a beautiful place set in such breathtaking sorroundings. it was a bit cold during this time of year, but if you are a fire maintenance expert, then bertie is quite cosy. the little town of Coleford was also lovely and the people were just as hospitable as Georgina! Will definitely be back!

    Madhana2019-10-31T00:00:00Z
  • 'Bertie is a true glamping experience in a converted horsebox that is so cozy and compact. The wood burner is very easy to use and I was provided with enough wood to use for my stay. The outdoor kitchen facilities are excellent, although I didn't cook, everything was provided for anyone wishing to do so. Plenty of plates, mugs, cups pots and pans and utensils plus a full size cooker and fridge. The shower is very clean with hot water and the compost loo was a much more favorable experience than I imagined it would be! Bertie is set in it's own grounds but close enough to the main house should I have needed anything. Georgina is a very friendly host and communicated well, also the little touches by text after my first night just to make sure all was ok; but in saying this, my privacy and need of a retreat were completely respected. I will definitely be back in the spring.

  • We had such a wonderful stay in Bertie. The location is beautiful, secluded and peaceful. Bertie is great, cosy and warm with such a comfortable bed, and the electric blankets were amazing! The kitchen space is great with everything you could need and cooking on the fire was fab! George was lovely and gave us great tips for some lovely places to visit and even brought us ice for gin and tonics. We had such a great holiday here, totally relaxing and we can’t wait to come back again!

Spring Cottage enjoys a peaceful setting surrounded by indigenous forest set above the River Wye. Graded 5 Stars by Visit Wales, the cottage was completely restored a few years ago and offers modern and comfortable accommodation that retains its original charm. Featuring two bright and pretty bedrooms, an attractive bathroom, kitchen with a range of modern appliances, dining area with oak table and chairs, cosy lounge with wood burner, detached studio/conservatory and extensive garden/woodland.
As people who enjoy breaks in holiday cottages ourselves we understand the importance of a well-equipped, comfortable and clean cottage and that is exactly what we strive to provide. You can expect to arrive to a spotless cottage, with beds made using premium cotton sheets, Egyptian cotton towels laid out and all essentials (loo roll, salt, pepper, coffee, soap, dishwasher tablets etc.) provided together with a few luxuries (locally laid eggs and freshly baked bread). There is additionally free wi-fi in the cottage. The ground floor contains the sitting room which is the perfect place for relaxing after a days’ walking or enjoying a cosy night in in front of the fire. It has a natural stone floor, wooden beamed ceiling, two double sofas, a modern fully glazed woodburner, a television and DVD player. There is also a bookcase stocked with novels, magazines, DVDs and board games. The recently fitted cottage kitchen/dining room is very functional with an electric hob and cooker, extractor hood, dishwasher, microwave, fridge freezer, toaster and kettle. The room has an oval oak dining table and chairs and phone/mp3 player dock for playing music. The kitchen is well equipped with cookery equipment and utensils, crockery and kitchen and dining linen. Larder essentials are also provided including tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, olive oil, washing up liquid, soap and dishwasher tablets. Adjacent to the kitchen is the utility room with storage for boots and coats, a washing machine, ironing board, iron and counter-top freezer. A covered external walkway leads from the utility room to the conservatory which has a comfy 3-seater sofa and table and is the perfect place for an afternoon read or as a playroom for children. The first floor is accessed via an oak staircase off the lounge. The bedrooms and hallway have thick natural wool carpeting, hand painted furniture and solid wood windows with stunning views over the valley. There are two bedrooms in the cottage – the master bedroom has a kingsize bed and the second bedroom either two singles or a king (please specify your preferred arrangement when booking). Beds will be made before your arrival and the towels will be laid out. All bed and towel linen is 100% Egyptian cotton. The Bathroom has a full length bath with separate shower above, heated towel rail, WC and counter top basin. The bathroom also benefits from some of the best views of the valley from the cottage. Spring Cottage is set within an acre of its own land which includes a pretty cottage garden. A barbecue and outdoor table and chairs are provided during the warmer months. Above this garden is an apple orchard and beyond this is woodland, which is blanketed in bluebells during the spring. Parking for two vehicles is available in the driveway. Please note vehicular access to Spring Cottage is via a one and half mile long narrow single-lane road which whilst suitable for cars is not suitable for vehicles larger than a Ford Transit. Children of all ages are very welcome. We can provide a highchair and travel cot if requested but don’t provide cot linen as guests generally prefer to bring their own. We also have toys, books, board games and DVDs to keep our younger guests entertained! We are dog friendly! Up to two dogs are welcome at Spring Cottage but in the interests of other guests they are not permitted upstairs or on the furniture. A fee of £5 is payable per dog per night to cover the additional time needed to thoroughly clean the cottage for the next guests.
Spring Cottage is spoilt by the number of great options for places to eat and drink nearby including the following favourites: The Brockweir Inn, with it’s open fire, serves wholesome pub food, ale and cider and is a short one mile walk from the cottage. Tintern, two miles away, has a number of pubs. Our favourite for steak is The Rose & Crown Inn in Tintern and for a fine view of the Abbey and a hearty pub meal The Anchor Inn. A little further afield are two fine gastro-pubs both serving quality food in traditional pub surroundings: The Inn at Penalt and the Ostrich Inn in Newland are both 10 miles away. For fine dining, we would thoroughly recommend the Michelin Star restaurant The Whitebrook, which is 8 miles from Spring Cottage. Past guests of Spring Cottage have also recommended a number of restaurants in Monmouth (15 miles) including The Misbah and No 7 Church Street for Bangladeshi and modern European food respectively.
  • We stayed at the cottage with our 4 month old baby. It was spacious, so clean and incredibly quiet and peaceful. It's tucked away at the end of a country lane so all you can hear are birds and nature! There is a garden room which was perfect for practicing yoga or having a quiet read in - an extra hideaway! The log burner was so relaxing, and the bed incredibly comfy. Even with our baby waking I slept really well! I want to own somewhere like this cottage :-) its also in the perfect location for lots of walks.

  • Spring Cottage made the perfect Xmas getaway for my partner and I and our dog (which left a spare room with two single beds unused - so plenty room for families/bigger groups) . The place was pristine and very homely providing everything we could need and more, even a decorated Xmas tree. The location is stunning and very peaceful, lots of owls to be heard at night and great adventures to be had in walking distance so that we could abandon driving for a few days. The kingsize bed was like sleeping on a cloud, the bath lovely and deep and plenty of wood for the log burner, perfect for relaxing after long muddy walks. The kitchen is big and well equipped so made preparing our Xmas dinner a joy. We'd love to see the area in the Spring/Summer, so hope to book another stay. Would highly recommend.

  • We had a really lovely time. The cottage is in the ideal location. Away from the hustle and bustle and surrounded by stunning countryside and walks. The cottage was clean, cosy and warm. We had a really lovely stay and will definately come back.

  • The perfect cottage for a relaxing retreat! This detached cottage is very homely, with a lovely sitting room, a very well equipped kitchen and extremely comfortable beds. Warm and cosy, with a fabulously wood burner, radiators and tons of hot water. We had a dog with us, and the enclosed garden and tiled lobby were perfect for muddy paws and boots etc. David was a great host, and very communicative and quick to respond to any queries. Highly recommend this hide-away and will return if at all possible!

    Mark2019-11-26T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned from a superb stay at the Spring Cottage. It was spotlessly clean, had everything we needed and was extremely comfortable. The directions David gave us were spot on. The area was absolutely beautiful and really peaceful. The king size bed was very comfortable and we were most grateful for the heating being on when we arrived at 5pm on Friday. Just 1 thing we missed though - it would be great if there was an ice tray to fill up! 5* trip and would definitely return.

  • This is a hidden gem in the woods. Secluded and tucked away up a quiet lane, but with all the mod cons. The house is comfortable, clean and modern with nice features, esp the log burner. Beds very comfortable, plenty of hot water and kitchen well equipped. Autumn is a beautiful time to visit with numerous walks on the doorstep. Look forward to returning in the spring as there is plenty more to see and do in the area. PS. Very practical house for dog lovers.

Situated in England near the border of Wales, this is a newly completed self-contained annex that was converted from a stone outbuilding in 2018. It is comfortable, modern and well equipped. Although the annex is set in the middle of the garden of a family home, you have your own private seating area with views of the beautiful Wye Valley. This is a quiet, peaceful location and a perfect place to escape the city.
Access is down the end of a very narrow, over grown and dead end lane. The annex is situated at the top of a very steep drive, although there is parking at the top and at the bottom. Negotiating hills by car and by foot is all part of our daily existence so we would not recommend you come if you are disabled or unsure on your feet. You will be staying close to a family home so will hear young children and occasional visitors coming and going.
Hewelsfield Common is a small hamlet that is within a protected area of outstanding natural beauty. We are a short walk from the Offers Dyke path and our local shop with it's picturesque cafe. A short drive away is The Forest of Dean, Wales, Symonds Yat and Tintern Abbey. The city of Bristol is just a 45 minute drive away on a clear run.
  • Liz's annex was great for a short weekend away. Cosy, tidy and clean and a great starting point for some walks in the country. Not too far to Tintern for a couple of great pubs and food. Liz was quick at communicating and the directions she gave were great. Brilliant stay

  • Thank you Liz for being a super host! Beautiful annex with a peaceful sun deck. A cosy, clean and newly decor annex. The location is very close to Forest of Dean and beautiful river Wye. Please remember to visit Cowshill Farm shop about 5 mins from the annex. They have the award-winning rare breeds of pork. We have a great long weekend.

    Anthony2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This is ideal for a cosy getaway for two or as a writers retreat for one , which is what I got out of it . Yoga on the terrace, waking up to birdsong and all the mod cons for comfort

  • We had the best weekend away. Elizabeth was great, responded quick to messages and was there if we needed anything. The location was amazing, so quiet and peaceful which is just what we needed. The Annex was beautiful, everything we needed. We are definitely planning returning to such a beautiful location for another romantic and relaxing weekend away. Thank you so much.

  • A really lovely secluded little spot with lots of local attractions. The place was really clean which made a great change from some other airbnb's we've stayed at. Was a little worried that being a garden annex we might feel overlooked but this was not the case at all, would definitely recommend.

A hidden gem annexe in the heart of the beautiful Forest of Dean and Wye Valley. A short distance from all amenities, forest walks and sightseeing. Private entrance separate to house with ample safe gated parking. A cosy gas centrally heated area with a double bed and kitchen facilities with separate shower room. The area is very quiet next to open fields and golf course. There is secure facilities for cycles if required.
Beautiful Forest of Dean 2 miles from Symonds Yat and 1 mile from Speech House with forest walks surrounding all of area. 5 miles from Wye Valley with breathtaking views and excellent cycle tracks. in the centre of Monmouthshire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire.
  • Our stay at Willow Annexe was delightful. At arrival we were greeted by the two very friendly cats. The studio is very cosy with a wonderful view to the forest. We were impressed by the gifts left for us and the attention to detail that Lesley has put into it. The place is equipped with everything you need (kettle, microwave and a little stove with a pan, if you need to prepare something). Even though we have not met Lesley, she responded quickly to our messages and allowed us a late check-out, which is very good on a lazy Sunday morning. We recommend visiting Wye Valley and all of its surroundings. It is a perfect place for a romantic get-away in the countryside. Highly recommended.

  • Picturesque barn close to villages but still secluded and quiet. Excellent grounds with lots of wildlife to be seen outside the barn including some deer! Very clean and essentials provided, e.g. cereal, bread, which was a nice touch. We didn’t have any mobile signal but there is some WiFi available. Thanks for a great stay!

  • This is an amazing place to stay. If you’re looking for a peaceful getaway with adventurous day activities, this is an ideal location. The Barn itself is immaculately clean with everything you could need during a stay. The space has been well organised, and the bathroom is one to see to believe! Stuart and Gill were excellent hosts with great communication which included providing detailed instruction on how to access the property and providing recommendations on what to do in the surrounding area. We really enjoyed our stay here and would 100% stay again!

  • We spent New Years at Gumbersland Barn and had such a lovely time! The place is really sweet and Stuart was always a message away. The barn is quite secluded and quiet, small but perfectly sized, lovely and warm, very welcoming for when we came home in the evenings. Perfect for a getaway from the city my other half and I are from! Stuart left a binder full of leaflets and suggestions for stuff to do in the area, which was very useful and we ended up doing most of his recommendations. Overall a really lovely little holiday, and we'd love to come back again some day. Thanks so much Stuart!

    Abbie-Louise2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a perfect location to enjoy the Wye Valley area. Great views. Masses of open space all around, including a nice walled garden and a huge fenced garden - fantastic for dogs. Great hiking. We had a terrific weekend there - very peaceful and relaxing. Two things to note: - This is an ideal base for an outdoor holiday. If you're planning to spend much time indoors, note that the internal space is smaller than it looks in the photo - it's only the last two windows in the annex rather than the whole thing, and it has no living space apart from the bedroom. The conversion is very nicely done conversion and very comfortable, but it's compact. - The sky can be pitch black. Great for looking at the stars - but would be a good idea to bring a flashlight to avoid slips and trips!

    Angus2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing , especially for the price. It's a great destination to get away from your hectic busy schedule. Me and my partner will definatly be going again and it's the perfect place for mountain biking ! Thanks again 😊

The log fire is a delight during the cold nights (we stayed in winter). It's a great location, lots of walking trails near by and a booklet full of directions and instruction maps. Tranquil, simplicity without intruding on the natural surroundings. Loved the stay and will be returning in the future!

  • James' place is lovely. The space is very comfortable and has been thoughtfully decorated. It's the top floor of would have been the coach house, (to the main house next door). You arrive via a long 'drive', and it is set in grounds with woods and fields of sheep. The view out the front is great (can just about see the sea from the shower!). James was very helpful and quick to respond. He took a very last minute booking which I appreciated.

  • So the photos in Airbnb do show how beautiful the space is but the views and the green woods surrounding the place and the peace , those you can’t feel until you are there ... It’s so beautifully decorated with such a comfy bed with crisp white cotton sheets . I had a piping hot bath and put on my pyjamas and padded around in my slippers , gazing out of the window , contemplating life in the woods ! It’s heavenly , relaxing and nourishing to be in the countryside . I didn’t want to leave ... we would recommend this space to anyone looking for a stylish , peaceful ,beautiful space to re coup and unwind . Xxx

  • We had a lovely couple of days - the room is really lovely. We especially enjoyed being able to let our dog run in the field opposite and good walks straight from the accommodation on the Gloucester Way. Check in was very flexible which was a bonus as we didn’t arrive till 10pm.

Horseshoes, Old Lands' former stables, has beamed bedrooms, a cosy sitting room and dining area, and a well equipped kitchen and private courtyard garden. On site there's a local produce shop, a children's Forest School and 200 acres to roam in. Also we have Liam & Emma who offer massage & personal training.
Horseshoes sits in Old Lands stable yard to the west of the big house . With its climbing roses, worn red sandstone walls and gentle planting, the recently landscaped yard has the feeling of an old quad. For eating out, a long table in the archway under the clock tower is the perfect spot. On the ground floor of the cottage there's an open plan sitting room and dining area leading into a well equipped kitchen. The original stable box wooden panels and stone wall divide the space which opens into your own private courtyard garden with BBQ and seating. You can park your car just the other side of the garden fence gate. There's also a toilet on the ground floor. Upstairs are three comfy bedrooms with beamed ceilings and basic modern bathrooms/ toilets (a double bedroom with shower and toilet, a twin bedroom with toilet, and a single room adjacent to a shared bathroom and separate toilet). The big house, Old Lands, is a grand but kindly old place, lived in by the same family for over 200 years. You will undoubtedly stumble across one of the youngsters who lives there zipping up the drive on their bike with a Jack Russell in hot pursuit. The 1,000 acre estate with the new generation at the helm is in a period of transition, with a new emphasis on the setting up of and supporting of gentle sustainable projects on site. It’s a family affair with all the Bosanquet generations, old and young, playing part in making it come together.
Old Lands is within easy reach of the Wye Valley, Forest of Dean, and Black Mountains and there are castles galore on the doorstep.
  • We had a great 10 day stay at Old Lands. Coming from North America, it provides a wonderful opportunity to stay in. a Welsh country estate. Cozy furnishings, beautiful Welsh textiles, convenient honesty shop and friendly people from the owners to other staff. The grounds are nice for a stroll, or weather permitting, a row on the lake - alas, for us the weather didn’t cooperate. We used Old Lands as a base for exploring many castles, abbeys, towns and pubs in the area. Highlights were Raglan (nice little onsite cafe), Chepstow, Skenfrith, and Usk castles. World Heritage Site of Blaenavon, and Roman site at Caerleon are must sees. Also the Lion pub in Trellech! Spectacular circle drive to Hay-on-Wye and back - amazing scenery!! It was always great to come back to Horseshoes at Old Lands and relax in the evening. We also enjoyed some meals catered by Penny - a great partnership with Old Lands. Thanks Sam, Clare and Amanda!!

  • Beautiful, quiet and private setting. Stylish, clean and quaint cottage. We absolutely loved our trip -- Sam gave us great suggestions on local hiking as well as activities on the property. Our kids LOVED letter boxing and it gave us something to do in the evenings after we had finished exploring the surrounding areas. Coming from the U.S., we liked that the cottage was centrally located to a lot of great attractions (Tintern Abbey, Highclere Castle, Bath, Cotswolds, Gower Coast, Brecon Beacons, etc). Wonderful place to stay for a family!!!

  • We had another lovely time staying at the fabulous Old Lands in the beautiful Horseshoes. Old Lands is such a tranquil, beautiful and special place with a lovely ethos and atmosphere. Horseshoes is a really stylish and comfortable place to stay. We hope to be back again soon! Many thanks.

  • The cottages at the Old Land Estate are a fantastic place stay. Clare and Sam are excellent hosts and they really go out of their way to make sure your stay is comfortable and enjoyable. Staying at the Old Land Estate is an incredible experience all onto itself. It’s in a great location to be able to easily see the attractions in England and Wales. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to stay there for our trip.

  • This is a lovely converted barn with 3 good bedrooms. The cottage is great and well equipped and feels like home. We chose it because it was near to a wedding we were going to. But we discovered that the REAL reason to stay here is all about the grounds and the amazing focus on nature which the owners have nurtured. There are lovely walks through the parklands and fields, around the lake (where you can row too), and amongst their kitchen gardens and animals. The owner Sam is a serious naturalist and took us on a nature walk where he dipped ponds and caught insects and moths - this was full of gems of knowledge and fascinating creatures. It would be a great place to bring children, or to get some peace and quiet away from the world.

    Alex2018-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely three bedroomed five person self-contained cottage. Spotlessly clean and beautifully presented. Sam and Clare communicated brilliantly and openly and made sure all was ok. Lovely too that Sam spent so.much time on arrival talking us through things. Beautiful grounds very safe and generally just the best time. I even ate the spinach bought from the honesty shop. If you're looking for a break in mid-Wales this is a place to check out.

    Ian2018-04-11T00:00:00Z
  • Old Lands is a great place to stay. Clare and Sam are excellent hosts. Communication before travelling is excellent and in our case they could even arrange Christmas decorations (tree and other green) in the house (Horseshoe)! The house is well equipped, many bathrooms, lovely mix of old furniture and modern styling and spotless. The Old Lands around Dingstowe Court (the main house) are great to stroll. The area is of outstanding beauty and you can do many things in the area: we played lots of golf, but there are many opportunities for walking, biking, fishing etc etc. We'll certainly return to this lovely place.

  • A lovely property in gorgeous surroundings. We played tennis and rowed on the lake. Fabulous. The accommodation was ideal. Very comfortable, and all amenities provided. Kitchen and bathrooms all well equipped and beds very comfy. Excellent all round. We loved it.

Stable Court is the former coach house. Access to this private apartment is by a covered stairway which leads into a spacious sitting and dining area with a high vaulted ceiling and original features. There is a large bedroom with three single beds, a double bedroom with en-suite toilet. 2 well behaved dogs are able to stay at a small charge, before booking please contact us regarding this. Outside there is a communal garden to enjoy with outdoor eating area and 200 acres of estate to explore.
Stable Court, as its name suggests, sits in the old stable yard to the west of the big house. With its climbing roses, worn red sandstone walls and gentle planting, the recently landscaped yard has the feeling of an old quad. For eating out, there's a picnic table in the front garden or a long table in the archway under the clock tower which is perfect if the weather is not so good. The self-contained apartment is accessed via a covered stairway which leads into a large sitting and dining room, a light and airy space with period features and a high-beamed ceiling. Off this room is a generous bedroom with three single beds, perfect for the younger members of a family to share. A small separate kitchen and bathroom are also located on this floor. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with its own toilet. The big house is a grand but kindly old place, lived in by the same family for over 200 years. you will undoubtedly stumble across one of the youngsters who lives there zipping up the drive on their bike with a Jack Russell in hot pursuit. • A really lovely place to stay - a number of really great walks suggested by Sam and very special to eat fresh produce from the farm shop.

  • We were searching for a place to stay in Monmouthshire for a short family break, and as soon as I saw stable court with its characterful decor and expansive grounds as part of the old lands estate, I knew we’d found the right place. The house itself is clean, plenty big enough for 5, and full of charm. Especially appreciated was the lovely outside seating area. But what really made it extra special was the setting. The cottage is within the grounds of a large country estate and you can enjoy free roam of the whole place. It’s well located on the edge of the Forest of Dean with lovely walking and tons of castles to visit. But to be honest, it’s a bit of a wrench to leave the grounds of the estate. There’s a letterboxing trail (kind of like a treasure hunt), two ponds and a boating lake. A free guided nature walk including pond dipping for newts was a real highlight on our last day. Totally recommend this as a great place to stay for relaxing and soaking up the beautiful surroundings. In comparison with other places I looked at it’s great value for money. Enjoy!

  • A lovely place in a beautiful setting. Clare and Sam run Old lands with great care and consideration - and helped us on every front - on the day of our daughters graduation found us a dog sitter so we could enjoy the whole day out. We very much enjoyed the shop which is stocked every morning with fresh produce from the estates own walled garden. Sam’s nature walks around the estate are not to be missed to discover a world of minute creatures. He has been returning cultivated land to wild flower meadows, providing new habitats for wild life, creating a model natural environment. Our grown up family all loved it, though it would be exceptionally nice for young children. We rarely ventured further afield, we were so happy, eating outside, cooling off on a warm evening with a row on the lake. I don’t think any holiday could have suited us better. Roger

  • Our stay at Old Lands was absolutely incredible. It is a very quiet, relaxing place to sit back, relax and recuperate after many days of driving on our vacation. The entire flat at Stable Court was decorated in historical, yet lovely fashion. The beds were super comfortable and the amenities available were too many to describe. Sam and Clare are just wonderful hosts. Thank you again!

Bunkhouse in the beautiful Wye Valley just off Offa's Dyke. On site facilities: Cinema screen, Pool table, WiFi, self catering kitchen, fire pits with optional extras at additional cost Inc. hot tubs, indoor skatepark, wood fired pizza and breakfast. Beds have clean base sheet and pillow but please bring duvet or sleeping bag.
Bunkhouse is split into 3 separate bedrooms of beds 4, 5 and 8. We can also accommodate an extra 4 in a caravan also and there is possibility of pull out bed. Groups over 13 will have full private use of bunkhouse including downstairs room and facilties. Bunkhouse is situated on a two acre site along with our residence and other residents. We are quite relaxed and do have guests privacy in mind but outside areas maybe used by other residents at certain times. Along with our two friendly dogs, other pets and two children.
On the foot of Offa's Dyke footpath to explore the beautiful Wye Valley what's not to like. Although seemingly in a very rural area we do respect our neighbours and have limits on late night noise outside. The bunkhouse however is very well sound insulated so not a problem in there.
  • Can’t recommend this place enough. The skate park was well above our expectations. The hosts were welcoming and chilled out. The accommodation was rough and ready so don’t expect a pristine hotel like experience, expect lots of muddy fun on a farm. We also hired mountain bikes locally which they helped arrange and finished at a brewery. All round epic big boys weekend who should know better.

    Will2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This would be a great place to come with bigger groups for a quiet yet sociable time. It's not a hotel so don't expect luxuries but the hosts are very attentive, reliable in their communication and easy-going. Their property includes a skate park, car park, lots of animals and great opportunities for hiking in the Wye Valley. And in the evening, you could snuggle up on the sofas to watch a film of you like.

  • A massive thanks to Corinna and her family for hosting us for a special New Year’s Eve get together. Camp Hillcrest is a bit rough and ready round the edges but perfect for a large group of people who want a weekend in the countryside. We loved going back to our youth and dabbling in the skate park and playing bulldog in a net suspended in the sky. We spent our days walking around the beautiful surrounding woods and biking in the Forest of Dean before relaxing back at the camp in the lovely wood fired hot tub and dancing around to the projector in the living area. Thanks again for a really special stay!

    Jessica2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • If you want an unforgettable weekend with all your friends, of endless activities and entertainment, make sure to book Camp Hillcrest. We wish we could've stayed the whole week to cover it all. Even if you're not an expert skateboarder, there's full on padding available to go wild and come out the other side unharmed! Guaranteed giggles! The family that manage the place are really helpful and have put all their heart and soul into this youth hostel. Don't expect a fancy place, but who ever did want spotless furniture when you are letting loose?!

    Begoña2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • A great space with a very relaxed atmosphere. Lovely surroundings. We had a great time here!

    Rosanna2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • This place has character and fun all over it and while you shouldn’t expect a hotel experience (bring your own sleeping gear - pillows provided) the options of full English and pizza make life that little easier and feel more like a break away from it all. We rented bikes down the road at PedalABikeAway and did blue runs around the Forest of Dean and was only 15 mins away. We would definitely come again.

    Ross2019-06-09T00:00:00Z

  • We had an excellent week in this lovely cottage which was very comfortable, very well equipped and lovely and clean. We had plenty of space to cook in, dine and relax and the laundry was a real asset for the wet weather. Jane was extremely generous with supplies which gave us a great start for the holiday. The cottage’s very scenic location nestled on the hill overlooking the River Wye is perfect and a marvellous base for lots of good walking and biking.

  • Beautiful house, everything really well thought out and comfortable. Feels like it's in the middle of the forest.

    Peter2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a lovely stay at Jane's beautiful cottage! The setting is stunning, the cottage is beautifully decorated, very warm and comfortable. The beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is very well set up for anyone who wants to do any cooking and Jane provided lots of additional goodies such as homemade granola and local bread and honey- such a treat! Can't reccomend this cottage enough for a long or short break.

    Clare2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • If your lucky enough to book Jane's place then you have found a gem! Its a beautiful place in a beautiful setting. The open plan nature of the down stairs means you can be sat on the sofa in front of the wood burner, at the table in the dinning area or cooking in the kitchen and still be able to talk, perfect for catching up with friends. The rooms upstairs are lovely also. Jane was always on hand if we needed her but I guarantee if you have a question once there the answer is close by in a greeting card. Listen to the directions Jane gives you and yes the lane up to the house really is that narrow, we just about got a VW transporter up there, anything bigger just wouldn't be possible. Thanks again Jane!

  • Great place in a very quiet neighbourhood. Very scenic and definitely a romantic get away. Pity we only stayed overnight.

  • An excellent cottage in a quiet, remote setting. Many wonderful walks around and your host is both very thoughtful on needs and an outstanding communicator. Little touches, like the availability of SKY TV, really helped, certainly for a winter break. The cottage living space is very well laid out to ensure a full family break works. Little things like the bird feeders outside just add, and any visitors must use the local community shop which is brilliant. The provision of breakfast goodies, especially home-made granola, and bread, just make a break to the cottage, a great one. Thanks for having us!

The beds are incredibly comfortable and the view on the river with the sun setting is beautiful. Its a lovely getaway cottage, with privacy, and access to the trails for walking. Wonderful amenities including a fireplace and quality shower gels stocked in every room. I was very happy to be there and sad to leave.

  • Thank you to Emma and her husband for a lovely stay. Property is clean, comfortable, extremely well located (i.e. stunning views of countryside and river), and there were plenty of thoughtful touches such as providing us with milk and allowing us to check out at 11:30am instead of 10am. I would recommend bringing a couple of shoe mats as, if it has been raining, the extra car parking and surrounding areas can get get a bit mucky and this risks getting mud on the carpets when you step inside the cottage, even if you wipe your shoes on the mats outside and take your shoes off just inside the main door. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Was great to use the bbq grill to roast marshmallows! Wifi is very slow but will let you keep in touch with the world if you must - Emma's husband kindly offered to let us use their telephone if necessary. Would recommend staying here to everyone looking for an amazing little getaway!

The Cottage is a converted stable, the original building is 150 years old. It's been sympathetically converted to provide well equipped comfortable accommodation. There's a private courtyard garden by a babbling brook. The Cottage is centrally heated a combi boiler provides continuous hot water. The cottage is on one level. There is a double/twin bedded room with en-suite tiled shower room. A large living room has a sofa bed & a door leading to the private courtyard garden. Dogs are welcome.
A lovely village, that has a great Church (All Saints, Newland also known as the Cathedral of the Forest). A fab village pub The Ostrich also welcomes dogs. Easy access to the Wye Valley and all it's attractions plus lots of walks on the doorstep.
  • Fantastic location, pretty, and well equipped. Easy check in and out, couldn't recommend more! Probably better for 2 people than the 3 we had (we were expecting that), but there was plenty of space for a few days.

  • The Rookery Cottage was outstanding. A beautiful place in just at the edge of the village. An excellent place to stay when you're exploring things in and around the Forest of Dean. The local village pub serves amazing food, and is a great atmosphere. We stayed two nights and found the cottage perfect for our needs. Everything was simple, easy to find and the lock box made checking in and out a breeze. Highly recommended!

  • Beautiful building. So lovely to come back to after our days out. Harriet always responded quickly to requests and questions and that made a huge difference to our trip. The flat was so clean. Our baby is crawling everywhere and putting everything in her mouth and I felt more relaxed about that here than at home! Farm shop and cafe next door were lovely. We didn't go until the day we were leaving and wished we had gone earlier. Lovely for gifts and if you're staying in and cooking there are some lovely options. Really comfy sofas if you're staying in at all and comfy bed. We had everything we needed to cook and we were able to do a load of washing which was really helpful with a baby. It was very quiet so a very relaxing place to chill out. We would definitely stay again.

A romantic country retreat in the heart of the Wye Valley on the edge of the Forest of Dean. An ideal base for exploring all the fantastic activities and sites that the local area has to offer. Whether you enjoy mountain biking, rambling, canoeing, or soaking up some English and Welsh heritage - the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean really do have something for everyone. We will happily answer any questions you have about the local area to ensure you get the most out of your stay.
This beautifully and sympathetically, renovated cosy cottage is nestled in the village of Redbrook and literally sits on the England & Wales border - the border is a brook that runs through a culvert under the cottage so you can take a shower in England and then make yourself a cup of tea in Wales! The cottage is equipped to a high standard with everything you'll need for a comfortable stay and a relaxing holiday. With upside down living, you'll find the cosy bedroom downstairs with a luxury king-size bed and underfloor heating, plus a double ended bath and power shower to help you unwind after a long day exploring. Upstairs the open plan kitchen and living area provides all mod-cons to make your stay as comfortable as possible, and there is an upstairs private decking area with a BBQ so you can sit out and enjoy the view across the valley whilst listening to the brook babbling by.
Redbrook is a small village on the England/Wales border, which sits on the shores of the River Wye. The cottage is a 5 minute stroll into the centre of the village where you will find a fantastic village shop, a village green and 2 pubs (one in England, one in Wales - which makes for a great atmosphere during the Rugby!) It is just 2 miles from the historical market town of Monmouth and has many local attractions. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area which has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
  • Couldn’t recommend this place enough, Rebecca goes above and beyond to make sure your stay is exceptional, the house speaks for itself and is like a fairytale, perfect spot for two and well thought out attention for detail in the decoration. Absolutely amazing !!!!!

  • Perfect spot to stay at.

    Nathan2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I had the most relaxing weekend at this beautiful cottage in the Wye Valley. Leading up to out stay we were concerned about the flooding in the area, however Rebecca was fantastic at keeping in contact and updating us on the road closures. The cottage was everything we could have wished for and provided us with the perfect retreat in the countryside. It was clean, comfortable and the little touches of eggs from their hens and home made banana bread made us feel very welcome. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anybody, and we will definitely be booking to stay again in the future.
