Places to stay in Nokomis

Places to stay in Nokomis
50 miles North of St. Louis; Right off I-55: PET FRIENDLY. Located on Route 66. This is a small house that has been tastefully decorated and filled with new and vintage furnishings. Only a couple blocks south of the Route 66 museum. Filled with Route 66 memorabilia. Food and shopping close by. Right off the interstate. Lake Lou Yaeger is close by. We have several train tracks coming through the center of town. Hopefully it will lull you to sleep by the occasional distant rumbling.
The Route 66 house is over 80 years old. It was built before Route 66 was an attraction. Some of the wood used to build the house was old barn wood of different sizes. Whatever was available post-war. The ceiling is a little under the average 8’ for today’s homes. This was very common for that era. My wife and I remodeled the house and have filled it with new furnishings but have added little touches of Route 66. The dining room table is made out is a steel tire rim and a water meter cover. With a water valve to touch it off. We've added a new modern kitchen and lots of small touches to make you feel at home. There is NO Cable TV. Wireless internet only with Netflix and Youtube on the TV. There is only 1 bedroom and it has a queen bed with a 12” memory foam mattress. There is a queen sofa sleeper in the family room with a memory foam mattress. It's not the most comfortable but I've never found one that was. The map on your phone app doesn’t pinpoint the address very well. It might show the water tower. We are two houses south of the water tower.
There is a museum featuring Route 66 memorabilia within a couple blocks. The Ariston cafe is just up the street also. A Route 66 must to try. Walmart, Walgreens, Denny’s restaurant and many other businesses are within a mile of the house

2-bedroom home right off I-55; 50 miles north of St Louis. Walking distance from Rt.66 and 66 museum. PET FRIENDLY.It is recently remodeled and has a nice back deck. Our home is updated and inviting. The kitchen cabinets are original when the house was built. Coffee is provided. One of the bedrooms doesn't have a door on it due to the shape of the door. A heavy curtain has been put up. There are several train tracks coming through the center of town. Expect some occasional distant rumbling.

  • Safe and cozy place to stay!

    Brianna2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for a week while moving and was not disappointed. The place was clean and well-maintained. The kitchen and coffee bar area were well-stocked, so we had everything we needed to cook and get by for a while. Location was good, just a minute off I-55. Very pet friendly, the hosts just ask that they stay off the furniture. Mike and Amy were friendly, accomodating, and responded very quickly to any questions. Keep in mind that there is no bathtub, just a shower, but if you don't mind that, then this is a great place for either a short- or long-term stay.

LAKE SHELBYVILLE GET AWAY The BLACKLOG CORNER COTTAGE is a quaint little cottage that gets its name from an old school that used to sit on this corner way back in the day when kids walked "up hill" both ways to school with no shoes on in the dead of winter...... so that's how the old story goes. It also sits on the old road that went from Shelbyville to Vandalia back in the "dirt road" days. Today the corner's roads are called Co. Road 1005 North and Illinois State highway 128.
The cottage is nestled among trees with a peaceful country setting. There's a patio, fire pit, and charcoal grill. It has ample parking for many vehicles, boats, and trailers and has 2 stocked fishing ponds just steps from your door for your enjoyment. There is a full eat in kitchen with all the pots, pans, dishes and utensils you will need to prepare a delicious meal. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator so you can stock your own food and beverages. There is a stand-up shower in the bathroom and a laundry room with full size washer and dryer for your convenience. The cottage has one bedroom with a queen bed, one queen sofa bed, and one twin roll away bed.
  • Great accommodations! We rented this little house and the one just a few feet away to give the kids some privacy. We all enjoyed our stay, and Vicky is the BEST hostess on the planet!!!

    Jerry2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, very clean. Close to Shelbyville. Great for boaters. Nice patio to enjoy a cookout and a fire.

  • We have stayed at two of Vicky’s Airbnb’s. Every time she has worked with our time of arrival and the place is squeaky clean. We live staying here!

  • Wonderful place to spend a few days.

    Dw2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • I loved staying here! We didn't have service the entire weekend, though - some wifi would have been nice, just so that we could have had contact with the outside world. But, in some respects, the seclusion was relaxing. I absolutely LOVED the fact that there was a firepit. The place was super cozy, and I for sure plan to make it a quick, weekend-getaway for my husband and I in the future.

LAKE SHELBYVILLE FARMHOUSE.... 5 minutes from Lake Shelbyville......SLEEPS 12.
KIMBLES FARMHOUSE is a cozy, spacious home that Kimble built from an old wooden corn crib with his own 2 hands. It is just 5 minutes from Lake Shelbyville, but out in the country where the views and the tranquility of the farm make it seem like you are in your own little paradise! It has 4 large bedrooms that sleep a total of 12 people ( one of the bedrooms is a suite with a bath of its own, 2 sitting chairs and its own dining table), 2 full bathrooms, a large eat in kitchen, an adjoining dining room, an inviting living room for great conversations, a patio with a grill and seating to cook out and take in all the scenery, a laundry room with a washer and dryer, a 2 car attached garage, electric plugs for boats, and plenty of parking for your boats, cars and trucks! Kimble's Farmhouse sets on a beautiful hill in the middle of an 80 acre farm that Kimble purchased in 1959 when he was just 19 years old. It is a working farm where guests can look down over the hillside and see a breathtaking view of the landscape, including cattle that sprinkle the hillside. The cattle are fed every evening in the feedlot and guests can watch as they come running up the hill and are fed at the silo. There are, at times, bottle calves and guests can witness those feedings as well and try your hand at it, if you would like! There will be corn and bean plantings in the spring and corn and bean harvests in the fall on the farm. If you are lucky enough to be there during harvest time, you can probably hitch a combine ride! In the fall we will schedule hayrides, so please let us know in advance if you and your group would like to go on a country tour on a wagon of hay! We would LOVE to have you as our guests at KIMBLE'S FARMHOUSE!

Enjoy your stay in your very own farmhouse. Nestled in rolling hills, with views of the flowing creek and fields. Just 6 miles East of Hillsboro, IL and 45 minutes from Springfield, IL Enjoy hiking, fishing, golf, boating and relaxing on the porch. The farmhouse has one bedroom with a queen bed and comfortable sofa sleeper (double) in the living room. There is also a double bed/futon in the summer kitchen to use if desired. The second farmhouse shown in photos is NOT available as of July'16
We are a unique farmhouse, situated on 236 acres of complete privacy You have the use of your own farmhouse. Situated in the country within 6 miles of Hillsboro IL Plenty of restaurants, shops, and museums close by.
We love the quiet, peaceful nature sounds. Our neighbors are too far to see, but close enough to help out if needed. The stars are so bright in the country, and deer, turkey and pheasants are always seen.
  • If you read all the reviews before this one, you would see a trend. Every previous visitor noted how precious, relaxing, and hospitality this home was. The house is filled with thoughtful touches and amenities. It is placed in the middle of the country where it seems only one car passed by the entire time we were there. The view from the front porch swing or the view from the backyard hot tub allows anyone to feel a sense of relaxation and peacefulness. Not to mention the fridge had bread, eggs, bacon, and a complimentary bottle of wine. Inside the bathroom area, there is a claw-foot tub, big enough for two if you are looking for something quietly romantic. My husband and I did not feel the need to venture out too many times over the long weekend we were there, but the owners- super nice people by the way- gave us several suggestions of where to go if we wanted to cruise the area. I could go on and on about the place, but I'll stop here. Oh, and p.s., the homemade cookies that were left for us were nothing short of amazing!!!

    Katie2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • John & Vicki's place was the perfect place for the rest and relaxation we needed. The house was spotless and charming. The bed is SUPER comfy! The house is tastefully decorated and Vicki's beautiful art hangs on some of the walls. They were so thoughtful to leave farm fresh eggs, sausage, bread, butter etc... for us to enjoy for our breakfast. John and Vicki also brought over a bottle of their fabulous wine for us to enjoy as well. The house is located in the country and is very private and secluded - just what we were looking for to unplug from the hectic pace of the daily grind (however, there is wi-fi for those who wish to remain connected). We spent one day at a lake nearby - which was wonderful! We rented a boat, fished and swam. The next night we went to the drive-in movie - such a treat! In the evenings, we sat on the front porch in the rocking chairs catching up and reconnecting with each other as we were serenaded by the tree-toads and the wind dancing through the trees. It was the perfect weekend!! We will definitely be back!!

    Rebecca2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay. Really relaxing with thoughtful hosts. Everyone in town is nice and helpful. Thanks again for having us.

    Michael2018-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Pheasant Valley Farms on our way down to southern Illinois to view the total solar eclipse. John was a wonderful host. He made us feel very at home. He gave us a tour of his farm/vineyard and even brought us watermelon for a treat in the evening. Thanks, John. We loved the farmhouse!

    Cheryl2017-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I stayed at Pheasant Valley Farms for a day to relax and enjoy some time together. We absolutely loved our experience. The land surrounding the home is absolutely beautiful which made for a peaceful stay. We spent most of our time sitting on the front patio porch swing taking in our beautiful surroundings. John and Vicky were incredibly accommodating and gracious. We were greeted with a bottle of wine (made from grapes on their farm!) and they were kind enough to have breakfast items ready for us for the morning. We even got to enjoy a tour around the farm on John's awesome toy, a seemingly high powered golf cart, for lack of a better name :) We loved our stay and will definitely be back!

    Kristen2017-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • It is definitely off the beaten path, but is a great cottage. We were passing through on our road trip home, but hope to come back sometime and really enjoy what the farm has to offer.

    Crystal2017-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We decided we needed a nice quiet weekend away, and booked this only a couple days in advance. We have a very enjoyable, restful weekend in the country on John and Vicki's farm / wildlife reserve. The house was spotless and very much as described. This is rural central Illinois at its best. John took the time to show us around the property, made excellent winery and restaurant recommendations, and went to great lengths to assure our comfort. He even left bacon, eggs, OJ, milk, and stuff for us to make breakfast. Bottom line, we were very happy we stayed, and hope to do so again sometime.

    Michael & Jeri2016-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • John and Vicki were so welcoming, even during a pretty heavy down pour! The farmhouse was exactly what we were looking for in an escape--a quiet and semi-remote place with a lot to do outside. The pictures are accurate, as are the descriptions provided. Games, puzzles, and dvd/vcr are available for use--if you have young kids bring dvds for them, the selection available is great (Dirty Dancing!) but not targeted for littles. All in all, it was a lovely stay, even if we had to cut it short due to weather (constant rain) induced cabin fever. We're definitely taking John up on the IOU to come back and tour the wineries in the future! Thanks for letting me take home all the delicious cookies...they were fantastic!

  • Robert and Tonya were absolutely amazing hosts! The Brass Room was comfy and large! The bathroom was clean and had plenty of towels. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were nice. The place was easy to find and had so much to look at! The breakfast was just wonderful- so many yummy things to choose from, very filling, and absolutely delicious!!! The hosts even sent us with a few snacks for the next leg of our journey. The front porch was dreamy and so nice to sit on to enjoy the morning breeze. Tonya gave us plenty of tips on what to do in Shelbyville including Forrest Park and Lake Shelbyville. We have no complaints whatsoever about this place. Charming and quaint and convenient and fully stocked!

We encourage our guests to enjoy all our home has to offer during their stay, including a wrap-around porch, gardens, enclosed patio, two kitchens, dining room, library, parlor, family room, and game room.
The Tulip room is located on the second floor of the house and has a queen sized bed and is spacious. Guests have two bathrooms to choose from.
  • This charming home, built before the Civil War, is comfortable and inviting. It's full of books and period pieces but has the modern amenities that I so appreciate (bathrooms and kitchen, mattresses, etc.). The best parts of a stay at Huddlestone's Hideaway, though, are the proprietors!! Robert and Tonya, both classically trained chefs, are the kind of thoughtful hosts that elevate a stay here to a whole new level. The breakfast they prepared was amazing and included so many thoughtful touches. It's worth coming to Shelbyville and staying at this home for the breakfast alone! I would highly recommend this friendly, welcoming B&B to anyone looking for a place to stay in central Illinois.

  • We were blessed to find this gorgeous place and meet these amazing people. It saved our trip through Illinois. We had the chance to have a look at all their rooms. They are all decorated beatiful, unique and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and prepared with love. But the best thing about this B&B are the hosts. If you travel here you will be greeted as long year friends and family. Thank you for the wonderful and unforgettable memories, you are the best!

Tonya and Robert were friendly and informative in helping us find antique shops around town. We will definitely recommend their beautiful B&B as a place to stay for our friends.

An elementary school is within 2 blocks. Walmart, gas station convenience stores and mcdonalds within couple miles. Farming fields are across the street behind one street of homes across the alley.
This house is current unfurnished but useful for a short-term or long-term stay.
This is quiet street in a non-commercialized area last street on the outside of town. There are children next-door in one house and quiet older person lives in the house on the otherside.

The house is full of historic charm, and it's a very comfy, cozy place to stay, whether you are hanging out on the front porch or relaxing in your room. • We were greeted at the door of this beautiful historic home and our hosts were extremely charming. They provided us with a glass of wine to relax and discuss the property and it’s rich history. I stayed in the Lincoln room and it was stately and perfect, wonderful AC at night kept the room extremely comfortable. We woke up to a breakfast spread second to none, fruits, local jams, biscuits, bacon, sausage gravy, French toast, scrambled eggs, and so much more. You will love Tonya and Roberts BnB.
