  • Absolutely loved our stay at Kath's caravan. Communication was quick and caring. We had booked the caravan for our son's 3rd birthday as his first caravan trip away. Kath had sweetly left balloons and a present for him - we all really appreciated this. The caravan itself was better than expected. Very clean and very well equipped. Central heating meant we were toasty warm during storm Dennis! Clean towels and bed linen all provided aswell as food basics such as milk, bread, jams and cereals. This was super appreciated as we had arrived in poor weather and did not want to travel back out to the shops! We were so happy with our stay we booked straight back up to come again in the Easter hols! Thanks Kath 😊

  • Lovely caravan in the middle of nowhere that is so peaceful, beautiful scenery, great for walking the hills and very relaxing. I will be returning.

    Iain2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • In a nutshell, everything was perfect. It was my son's first experience of staying in a caravan and he was very happy; so are we. You'll find Kath, the hostess, very polite and welcoming. The location is a wow, full of pure air, beautifully silent at night, great view of hills and rams next to the caravan during the daytime. Inside the caravan, no broken items, healthy and non-scratched pans, clean porch, beautiful bedding, clean bathroom, great recreational items like the games and books, everything neat and in place, cereals in jars, breakfast there in the fridge, warm and cosy upon arrival, easy check-in, clean stove, pretty guest book. Don't forget to ask Kath to show you the farm and explain how it works for them. We made BBQ upon arrival and made a campfire and roasted chestnuts near mid-night in the pitch dark and deep silence. So we just heard the chestnut shells cracking. Great experience. I highly recommend the stay.

The The Old Farmhouse in Cwmygerwyn valley is a lovely place to enjoy a relaxing holiday in beautiful, unspoiled Welsh border country, at any time of the year. Dating from the 17th Century, it has thick stone walls, oak-beam ceilings, flagstone floors, a wood burning stove, fine views, a large garden shared with the adjoining Lodge Cottage (which you can also rent) and excellent walking/mountain biking, right from the door. With no TV, Internet or Mobile signal, it's great for a digital detox.
Our cottages are in Radnorshire, the least populated area in England and Wales. Great for walking or mountain-biking in the Radnor Forest, or just relaxing in the garden while enjoying the peace, seclusion, and freedom from TV and mobiles! Further afield, explore wild Elan Valley (21miles), Offa's Dyke Path at Knighton (7 miles), Llandrindod Wells Victorian spa town (14miles), Builth Wells Royal Welsh Show (21miles). Originally a medieval 'hall house', the Old Farmhouse with its 3ft thick stone walls is one of the oldest properties in the area. The adjoining Lodge was added in Victorian times as accommodation for grouse hunters.
  • A charming property on the outskirts of Radnor forest full to the brim with history & character. We stayed here with our 2 year old daughter over Christmas & were all blown away by the property’s festive charm - The host Alison was delightfully warm & welcoming adding the finishing touches to a fabulous trip.

  • Such a cosy little hideaway- amazingly warm and full of character. It is nestled in the hills right on a walking route and far from the beaten track. Perfect spot for walking and board games by the fire!

  • It was a pleasure to stay at the Old Farmhouse, so peaceful there and enjoyable to spend time in this wonderful old building with its huge flagstones and real sense of history. As it is quite remote there are a few practical things you need to be aware of so do read the instructions when you arrive and also do print off the details of how to find it, keep the faith on the long farm track approach and you will eventually reach your destination.

  • Lovely cottage in a beautiful location. Perfect base for exploring mid Wales.

    Stephen2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely quiet and remote place, directly on a couple of bridleways through the woods which can lead to at least two decent day walks. My car does not have much ground clearance but the road and track to reach the house were OK and in good condition. You share the garden and a party wall with the other half of the house, but for me it was a quiet stay. There are three bedrooms, as advertised, the twin being accessed through the main one. The kitchen has a good cooker and the immersion heater provides plenty of water. Lovely cottage.

    Tony2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house in a great location. Everything went very smoothly and we were well taken care of.

    Dominik2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is so quaint and perfectly located in a valley. It's so quite and peaceful you really do feel in touch with nature and a million miles from the hustle and bustle of city life. The cottage is so comfortable and only just enough modernised to provide comfort without taking away from the character. The kitchen is fully equipped, we didn't need to eat out once, we brought some basic ingredients and just cooked and ate in front of the fire. You can buy fresh meat down the little lane, eggs up the road and there are plenty of Coops around for other things. You can get to waterfalls and the hills within an 30 minutes to an hour depending on where you are going. The best bit for us was the absolute quiet of the cottage coupled with so many places to see nearby.

  • Smashing few days. The farmhouse was well equipped, clean and in a beautiful setting. Andy, the local farmer, was helpful and sold some tasty burgers and sausages. Super walks, noTV, WiFi or phone signal - a perfect digital detox. Alison was great at staying in touch, letting us know about local attractions and calling to make we were settled in. Thanks. Recommended!

  • A lovely cottage in a remote area. It was not easy to find but once there we didn’t want to leave. No TV or Wifi, perfect to proper switch off! We really enjoyed reading by the fireplace and the walks from the doorstep.

  • The Lodge Cottage is a beautiful place to stay, in stunning surroundings. The place was clean and had everything you could possibly want. Having no internet and TV was fantastic, there were plenty of books and board games to enjoy. There is so much to do in the surrounding area and a footpath straight out of the back garden. We brought our dog to the cottage and the garden was very secure. The place is spacious and clean and we will definitely be returning.

    Becky2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a retreat away from it all we can wholeheartedly recommend Lodge Cottage. The peace and quite away from technology, with just the sound of birdsong, is truly restorative. The cottage is very well equipped, retains it's farmhouse character and is very cosy, not least because of the abundant supply of logs for the woodburner. There is a bookcase stuffed with a whole variety of books and a cupboard full of games for young and old alike. The view is wonderful and there are loads of walks right from the door, a good one is back down the lane to the Art Gallery in Bleddfa, with it's great exhibitions and tea rooms (can recommend the Bara Brith with Cheese - delicious). Alison is a great host responding quickly to any queries and contacting us whilst in the cottage to check everything was okay for us. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this cottage to others and hope to have the opportunity to go back ourselves one day.

  • A lovely cottage. A bit like stepping back in time it was confirmable and homely. Enjoyed the Lovely views all round the property. A magical unspoiled location. Loved the log burner and reading by the fire.

A self contained self catering apartment, part of a large family run B&B close to the town centre. The Annex has its own fully equipped kitchen with ceramic hob/oven, microwave and fridge freezer. There is an integral shower and toilet. The bedroom has an orthopeadic double bed and a pair of bunk beds. Tea, coffee, milk, towels and bedding are provided, as well as Sky TV and WIFI. We can supply bread, jam and breakfast cereals for a modest extra charge. Ample off road parking is provided.
The town of Knighton and the surrounding area has several public houses that provide meals, and several cafes are open during the day. In addition there is an Indian restaurant, a Chinese Takeaway, a chip shop and a burger bar. These are all less than 5 minutes walk away from the accommodation. Guests have their own separate entrance to the annex. The annex was designed with groups of up to 4 walkers in mind. If you are doing one of the popular walks like Offa's Dyke or the Heart of Wales Railway Path, we are available to help with transfers to and from places like Kington or Montgomery, for a modest fee. This allows you to book our accommodation for up to 3 consecutive nights while still making progress on foot. For example, we can collect you from Kington and bring you to the accommodation, then return you to Kington the following morning. You then walk the Offa's Dyke Path up to Knighton for a second night at the annex. On the third day you can walk to Montgomery and we will then shuttle you back to the accommodation for a third night, before delivering your party back at Montgomery for your onward journey.
The accommodation is in a quiet backwater of the town, close to the local church and church hall. It is a short walk to the town centre, or down to the River Teme where you can join the Offas Dyke path. Knighton's Welsh name is Tref-Y-Clawdd, which means "town on the dyke".
  • Lovely accommodation - we are a family of 2 children and 2 adults - the space suited us. Walking distance to everything on Knighton. Comfortable beds, friendly host and everything we needed from self catering.

    Kirsty2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect location- beside the beautiful church in the centre of Knighton. Offa’s Dyke literally two Minutes away. Martin was very helpful about places to eat and walk. The house was scrupulously clean and had everything we needed. Highly recommended.

  • Amazing host, great facilities. Space amazing . Nothing was to much trouble . Amazing for families.

    Sarah2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay from start to finish. Very considerate hosts, who made you feel nothing was too much trouble. This location has the best of both worlds: the Bunkhouse Annexe is a quiet place to stay, but all of the amenities in the town you could possibly need are all within walking distance, including the Offa's Dyke Centre. Really comfortable accommodation with plenty of facilities, comfortable lounge area, and well-equipped kitchen. Would definitely return.

    Jamie2019-06-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a most convenient apartment ,with everything available you might need to self cater . Offa's Dyke path is close by. There is an amazing coop behind the garage so no shortage of supplies and a convenient laundrette around the corner if you're walking and need to freshen your clothes. Martin has plenty of local information and the locals around town friendly and helpful as well.

  • I had such a wonderful, relaxing time in the pod! WHAT A VIEW!!! Lots of local walks and a visit to the Elan Valley is a must! Thank you for the goodies - the eggs, butter and milk were lovely. We had a fab time, chilling out in the pod with the log burner on. I even managed to sit outside with a glass of wine on Sunday afternoon, (with my coat and scarf on) to take in the amazing view! We will be back again in the summer! Charlotte, Hugo & Hector x

  • We had a lovely couple of days at hares form, it was just what we needed a quiet quirky place to get away too. It has lovely views and you really do feel like the only two people in the world! The hot chocolate and eggs were a lovely added extra.

    Charlotte2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful cabin with stunning views and surroundings. Really thoughtful touches and great communication with the hosts. Such a lovely bolt hole to explore Powys, or to tuck yourself away from the world!

    Sammy2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was a truly memorable experience in a wonderful part of the world. A must for those who love nature, walks, pubs and beautiful scenic views. A fantastically built cabin too. We will be back..if there's room!

    Gregg2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful location and a well equipped cosy hideaway oerfect for seeing the stunning Welsh scenery. We enjoyed Elan Valley and the mountain road to Aberystwyth which offered stunning scenery. Thank you.

    Daniel2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days at Hare’s form, the pod was great and the views fantastic. Loved seeing the alpacas and the sheep, and we were lucky enough to see an alpaca just hours after birth. It was just the break we wanted, thank you very much.

    Helen2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • Hare’s Form surpassed all our expectations - and they were high to begin with! The view is absolutely remarkable and the pod itself is amazingly comfortable. We stayed a night or two during some blustery weather and the pod felt warm and secure throughout. We could hardly hear the rain and wind! Alice and Kevin have ensured that the the pod not only has plenty of thoughtful and stylish touches but also great amenities. We were able to cook each night on the induction stove and keep a well stocked fridge. The location of the farm was perfect for exploring much of Mid-Wales and also parts of the UK. There are plenty of wonderful days out within an hours drive - we would particularly recommend a scenic drive through Elan Valley. We equally enjoyed spending time close to the farm, walking around the local fields and visiting the nearby waterfall. Needless to say, we will be visiting again and have already recommended Hares Form to friends and family.

    Molly2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • The pod at the top of the hill is both cosy and comfortable. It is so lovely to wake up to the sound and sight of lots of goats chewing grass. The views is stunning and the pod is well equipped with all you need and has been carefully decorated to make it feel very homy. I highly recommend a stay in the pod and hope to be back one day.

  • The hut was delightful and had all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay. The views of the surrounding scenery were stunning as well. Jim was an excellent host, communicating well and always being willing to help. The dogs, Star, Toby and Whisky, were also lovely and friendly! We did have some trouble getting on to the Wi-Fi, but that's no bad thing when you're trying to get away from it all. We stayed during Storm Dennis, which scuppered our plans for exploring the surrounding area somewhat! However, the hut remained dry and was nice and warm with the heating on! Jim was also incredibly helpful here, allowing us to check out late and accompanying us to make sure we got through the flooding! Jim also showed us around his lovely studio flat which is also listed on AirBNB at https://www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/39833729?source_impression_id=p3_1582409456_fBy7yL18ZD62GtqM.

  • We had the loveliest time staying in the cabin on Jim’s farm! The hut is very cosy and comfortable indeed, and a walk of just five minutes or so leads to absolutely beautiful views of the surrounding countryside! Jim and his lovely dogs were so welcoming to us throughout our stay - it really is the perfect rural place to escape to. We miss being there already and would absolutely love to come back again soon!!

    Philippa2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place, amazing view, away from roar. Did not know it can be so quiet. Warm welcome from Jim, our host and his three friendly dogs. Nice walks from the cabin, lots of nature.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing stay at Jim's Roost Retreat Cabin in rural Wales. The area has an outstanding scenic landscape which is perfect for walking in the daytime and star-gazing up at the dark skies at night. There is an also an abundance of wildlife in the vicinity. The cabin was warm and cosy with a really comfy bed and great power shower....it has everything you need and more to make the stay enjoyable. (Farmer) Jim was a great host who couldn't do enough for us. He only lives next door with his 3 dogs so was on hand to answer any questions we had and told us a few tales from his past. He even showed us around his labour of love home.... built mainly by his own hands many years ago. Thanks for having us Jim, we would defo recommend the Roost Retreat and will come again one day! :)

Followed the welcome guides recommendation to eat est the castle inn about 5 miles away which was lovely too. The house is so cute, proper farm house and the bathroom is glorious! I had a lovely bath, and the most relaxing nights sleep ive had in ages! Breakfast was lovely and we had a good chat. 10/10, would recommend xx

  • Hands down my best Airbnb find so far! Absolute peace out there at the farm, comfortable and cozy bedroom, sparkling clean bathroom. Anna and her husband are very welcoming and respectful. The yummy breakfast sets one off for a great day. :)

    Ami2019-05-27T00:00:00Z
  • A nice rural setting coupled with a warm welcome by Anna. The modern facilities in this old farm house make it a welcome stay, with Anna providing an excellent breakfast.

    Howard2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Anna is a fabulous host and made us feel very welcome in her home. I was a little unsure of what to expect as this was my first Airbnb stay but Anna made everything very simple and made us feel very at home. The room was perfect for our needs (which was arriving fairly late after a long journey and leaving very early in the morning to continue on), it was very clean and had a really comfortable bed. We slept amazingly well. The farm is in a beautiful location and wonderfully quiet. Ignore the Airbnb map and your satnav. Follow Anna's directions and you'll be fine. Breakfast was enormous and delicious. Anna kindly catered to my dietary requirements like it was no problem at all. Something that restaurants have had trouble with! All in all it was a lovely stay and if we are in the area again, we would definitely consider booking again.

A charming Grade II listed townhouse in the small market town of Knighton, Powys. The property is situated in one of the oldest and quaintest parts of the town and is very close to all the local amenities. Knighton is a perfect base for walkers and country lovers alike and also for people wanting a "Get away from it all break". The house is a couple of minutes walk away from the famous Offa's Dyke Centre and path and the outstanding Mid Wales scenery. NEW* Well pehaved dog allowed :)
The house is laid out over three levels and has bags of character. Built circa 1800 it has beams, stone walls and a wood burning stove in the sitting room. This gives the property a lovely, cosy ambience. On the ground floor there is an entrance lobby, sitting room with a sofa bed and the kitchen. On the first floor, there is a single bedroom and bathroom. The open plan master bedroom is on the second floor. In fine weather there is a small patio at the rear for sitting out on.
Knighton has many places to eat and socialise. Some of which include the Banc Wine Bar, the Horse and Jockey, the George Pub and Restaurant and Watson's Microbrewery. There is also a local Indian restaurant where you can take your own beverages and a Chinese take-away and a Fish and chip shop just around the corner. In terms of local places to visit, Powys Castle should definitely be on the to do list as well as the Hall at Abbey Cwm Hir (booking required), visiting the Brecon Beacons and walking parts of the Offa's Dyke Path. Also the Judge's Lodging in Presteigne, the book town of Hay on Wye, the foodie town of Ludlow and Builth Wells (the site of the Royal Welsh Show) are all within reasonable travelling distance. . Mid Wales is known for its stunning scenery and tranquil atmosphere making it a perfect place to unwind!
  • Had a lovely stay at Jazz's place...a really peaceful, beautiful cottage. The bedrooms are lovely and spacious, especially the main. Very warm with a great shower and WiFi signal. Equipped with all you need for a really comfortable stay. A high quality air BnB!

  • Lovely place to escape to, right in the town. Shame it wasn't cold enough to light up the wood burner.

  • We loved seeing in the new year in this home! Access to beautiful rolling hills and all you could need in Knighton in a very lovely home :)

  • It was nice to stay in Jazz's cottage over Xmas period. It was what we were looking for away from buzz of London. Quiet location, cozy living room with wood burner that we were looking for specifically, good provisions for self catering stay. Unfortunately we encountered some issues with electricity at the house, but these things can happen in old houses, and host was good at communication and trying to resolve the issues.

  • Nice little spot within easy walking distance of Knighton yet quiet. Pleasant walks in nearby countryside. Although the outside picture looks a little flimsy don't worry it's a proper little house inside - well equipped and plenty big enough for two. Note that it's a studio with the bedroom and kitchen part of a single larger room.

    Adam2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little studio, private garden and great decor. Amazing adjustable beds with warm duvets and really efficient heating. Great location for walks, eating out and train access. Well stocked and full kitchen facilities. Would stay again in a flash!

  • Amazing little lodge - very spacious, incredibly clean and tidy, and had everything we needed. Short walk to the local shops/pubs/takeaways, and we enjoyed walks through the woodland and along the hills. Sarah was very quick to respond to our messages, and when we briefly met her she was very welcoming and friendly.

Old well lived in family home, set in centre of village on the Welsh borders. Secluded amongst trees, barns and guardian chickens. The house is very old and quirky, with steep stairs and lots of ups and downs . For breakfast there will be home made bread, marmalade and jam and organic fruit.
The house is situated next door to The Castle Inn, which is open every night for food and drink. There are great walks around here, including up to Knucklas Castle, part of Knucklas Castle Community Land Project.
  • Lottie's house is lovely, bohemian, full of character, colourful, with a very nice positive energy. It is very easy to find, and it's just 5minutes walk away from a pub and train station. The bedroom is very spacious and comfortable, with sofa, armchair, fireplace and loads of books. It felt very cosy. The bathroom is next to the bedroom and it's huge! A lovely sweet female Labrador lives with Lottie, Elsa, she's absolutely gorgeous, very respectful and well trained. We had very good breakfasts, with home made brad and jam, cereals, almond milk and yogurt, fresh fruit and Italian coffee. Lottie helped us a lot finding walking paths in the area and even proposed to come and rescue us in case of getting lost! Thanks for the great stay Lottie, we really enjoyed it and we felt like home.

    Francesco2019-04-22T00:00:00Z
  • I enjoyed a great quiet break in Lottie's lovely home. If you're looking for peace, beautiful walks and tactful hospitality, this is the place.

    Steven2018-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lottie's home was lovely, and full of old Welsh cottage charm, with its higgledy-piggledy couple of stairs up here and couple of stairs down there, its grandfather clock on the landing, old wood and stone flooring, books everywhere and a long bathroom with a long bath. And a very welcoming black Labrador called Elsa. And it's so peaceful. Lottie is a sculptor and it's not hard to guess this is the home of an artist, with an exuberant, wild garden, a studio where she knows were everything is, but no one else could, and interesting pieces of old furniture and objects collected over the years. Lottie made us feel very welcome and was so generous with her breakfasts, with lovely fruit salads and home-baked bread and home-made jams. For dinner, the pub down the road has some good, satisfying food at very reasonable prices if you want to avoid driving. We both really loved our stay, and feel very honoured to have been Lottie's first Airbnb guests.

  • A lovely setting for a great weekend. The house was clean, had everything we could’ve needed. We really enjoyed the hot tub, as well as the games room. But all in all, it was a great place to stay, very remote, for a relaxing and fun weekend!

    Darcy2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect weekend here! Hot tub over looking the fields, places to walk the dog. Games room was brilliant. House much bigger than expected. Clean, tidy, comfy beds, very homely touch! Will most definitely return!

  • What a wonderful place for a break! The six of us came here to celebrate our friend's birthday as a peaceful little retreat and we were not disappointed. The surrounding countryside is lovely and remote, just fields and trees and a few sheep! Bliss! We very much enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub, warming ourselves by the wood burning stove and getting into quite heated games of table football in the games room! Sandra and Rosie were really helpful and communicative, with lots of tips on things to do in the surrounding area. A couple of our party want to come back again for a getaway in the near future which says it all! We didn't want to leave! Definitely recommended.

    Melanie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing, very clean, lovely touches throughout. You can tell the hosts are experienced. They were very accommodating and let us have a late check out on Sunday morning. The hot tub was lovely and was always left on so we could dip in whenever we wanted. Very quiet and dark at night. The house is very well equipped for cooking, entertainment and comfort. It was warm and cozy. Will definitely be staying again!

A beautiful place to stay, we had a lovely spacious room, the bathroom was full of thoughtful touches, including bathrobes and an ample supply of towels. • We were looking for a quiet place, no phones etc to just chill after a crazy week at work. The cottage was perfect for this, it is small and quirky but easily enough room for two of us and a rather large dog! Lots of nice walks, sitting watching the river run through was beautiful - a really special place. Great value - even milk, bread, butter etc ready for arrival and plenty of wood and coal for the fire! Thank you for a great stay.

  • Superb little cottage that's perfect for some solitude and much needed relaxation. Peter was a thoughtful, Well informed conscientious host. Thoroughly recommend this place to anyone. the little owl we saw on the last morning was the icing on the cake btw!!

  • Quirky little house, nicely situated for walking around the area, loved the wood burner, nice little kitchen, enjoyed our stay!

    Annie2017-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was the PERFECT escape from the hustle and bustle of city life due to no mobile signal, which meant total peace. The cottage was quirky and the perfect size for the two of us. Peter greeted us when we arrived and he was very friendly and helpful and there was also an informative guide should we require anything else. The activity we enjoyed most on our short break was sitting on the balcony each evening with our bat detector. It was great fun watching the bats fly above our heads and listening to the owls in the distance. In the daytime the river was alive with baby trout, dragonflies and lots of birds including kingfishers. To get the most out of your holiday here, you need a car and it's a perfect base if you like visiting old churches. A short 5-10 minute drive away is St Mary's Church in Pilleth, which is beautiful and well worth a visit.

    Mark2017-07-09T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at the cottage Saturday to Monday and couldn't have had a more perfect stay! Peter and Mandy met us at the cottage to show us around, and gave us ideas for local restaurants and walks! The photos on this page really don't do the cottage justice! It is SO lovely! I highly recommend the visit to anyone considering it! The balcony over the river was perfect to sit with dinner and a glass of wine. Local towns are a drive away so best for a car! Very lovely secluded location that we will definitely be recommending and coming back!! Thank you!

Drovers Retreat is our sympathetically converted 19th-century stone barn in the beautiful Welsh Marches, catering for 4 people. It has been awarded a Visit Wales 4* grading, as well as a Silver Award by Green Tourism. The property lies in this unspoilt rural landscape next to a medieval Drovers Road, and close to a Roman Road. Walk the green lanes and footpaths; listen to the sounds of nature, or just breathe the clear upland air, and relax.
A single-story eco stone barn, with all modern conveniences, Graded 4 Stars by Visit Wales. An ideal place to experience rural tranquility and peace in the heart of the Welsh Borders. We believe in working with the history of the building and have retained many period features to keep its story alive. Conveniences of contemporary living sit comfortably within the location of the barn and reflect our life in Africa as well as our rural roots. All rooms lead from the spacious living and dining room; kitchen, bathroom and two bedrooms - 1 double, 1 twin. The impressive living room, with vaulted ceiling, beams and original flagstones, has a dining area, Freeview tv, cd player, radio and a selection of games and reading material. The whole building is well insulated, cool in summer behind the stone walls and extra cosy in a Welsh winter, with the log burner for added comfort. A refurbished butler sink sits happily in the traditional farm kitchen which is fully equipped with electric hob and oven, under-worktop fridge/freezer, washing machine, and dishwasher. There is an energy-efficient electric clothes drier, perfect for damp coats or a full wash. The bathroom has a thermostatic shower, and a large bath, heated towel rail and Victorian-style wash basin and wc. There is an electric shaving point and a hairdryer. The adjoining original stone and timber barn is a wet weather haven or simply a place to let off steam, with table football, snooker, darts and space for children to play. Leading from this is an outside seating area overlooking a wooded valley, full of the sounds of a rippling steam, and plenty of birdsong especially in the breeding season. A BBQ is available for guests. Overwhelmingly, visitors to the farm comment on the peace and tranquility. Set well away from the main road, Drovers Retreat is a perfect place to escape the stresses of the modern world without compromising on comforts. We live in the farmhouse, tucked away at the far end of the yard and are here to help and advise when needed but otherwise you can easily feel you are the only people for miles.
The local community is warm and welcoming. A couple of local pubs (4 and 5 miles) are great for a drink and a meal, whilst several more first class eating places are about 30 minutes away. Visitor attractions include the Elan Valley reservoirs, which supply Birmingham's water; Presteigne's Judges Lodgings enable you to experience a Victorian courtroom, complete with cells; and of course, superb walks in all directions from Drovers Retreat.
  • Lovely and rural. On the edge of the forest so lots of nice walks available to us. Wood stove, hot showers and excellent facilities. We had a lovely New Years here with 4 adults, 2 dogs and a baby!! Thank you bob and Carolyn.

  • The space is incredible. A sympathetic, beautiful, cosy and welcoming converted barn with excellent eco credentials. It is a truly idyllic setting with truly peaceful privacy (but very lovely hosts if you should need them). We had an incredible family holiday here. Incredible walking, adventures from the doorstep and cosy fireside reading. The boys all loved the barn to play in and the track to cycle up and down and around. Thank you Bob and Carolyn.

  • Lovely cottage, full of thoughtful touches - organic coffee, cake, hand drawn maps, dog biscuits to name a few. Kids loved the games in the barn. Dog loved the cool flagstone floor & both loved the woodland & stream for free range fun. Beds were all super comfy and everything super clean.

  • This is a beautiful conversion of a former agricultural building and provides very comfortable accommodation. Bob and Carolyn are wonderful hosts. There is great walking nearby without needing to get into your car, together with Elan Valley and Offa’s Dyke within an easy drive. If you want a quiet place to stay in a secluded spot this is ideal . Thank you Bob and Carolyn .

Welcome to my home! I can’t wait to meet you and show you around my gorgeous home and tell you all about our beautiful town of Knighton.
You have a single room with a shared bathroom. You share with one other room and it’s very rare that both rooms are occupied. You also have access to the breakfast room, where you will be able to eat a continental breakfast in the morning, or if you need somewhere to eat your take away- this is it. There is a fridge with milk and tea making facilities in the breakfast room.
I am ideally located both on the Offa Dyke path, and Glyndwr train. My front door heads out to the high street, so I’m close to all the amenities that Knighton has to offer. My back door heads straight out into the Offa Dyke path!
  • Serena is a fantastic host; herself and her husband go the extra mile to make sure your stay is the best possible. They are also great conversationalists.

  • great place to stay, charming cottage, really well equipped with lots of lovely touches from the host.

  • A lovely little cottage in a great location. The low ceilings will be a drawback for taller guests and the road outside is rather busy but this is more than made up for by being close to lots of amenities (pubs, shops, takeaways) and beautiful countryside. Annette did everything to make our stay pleasant and lots of freebies were provided on arrival which we weren't expecting including local jam and even tea and coffee. There is a nice patio area at the front of the cottage which is an added bonus.

  • There’s not a bad word to say about Annette’s place, from the moment I booked it I knew this would be perfect for myself, partner, daughter and hound. The place was immaculate, yet homely enough to fit straight in and feel comfortable. The little bits she left was such a nice touch, milk in the fridge, jam and scones and copious coffee. We could not fault this place. If your looking for somewhere quiet and cosy within walking distance to the pub this is the cottage. Thanks again Annette we had a fantastic few days and can’t wait to return!!

Middle Hivron is a very rural, delightfully spacious lodge situated at the end of a private lane in the superb Welsh countryside. Imagine...No light pollution, picturesque walks, a wood burning hot tub to relax into after a lovely day out!
During the daytime enjoy watching the red kites and buzzards flying overhead, two of the many wildlife species living abundantly in the area. The lodge itself has a well laid out design, which is roomy, comfortable and modern. The living and dining area are open plan, consisting of two comfortable, cosy settees and a farmhouse dinner table with seating for 8. The lounge has an open fire, perfect for snug nights in. The kitchen comes with modern furnishings and all of the appliances you will need during your stay. With stylish linen and plenty of storage they're very cosy and homely. One of the bedrooms comes with an en-suite bathroom, there is also a spacious family bathroom, to complete the interior of the lodge. To the outside there is wide decking, perfect to sit and take in the views. Surrounding the lodge is a large, fenced in garden. There is also a Petanque pitch, more commonly known as Boules pitch, for some extra fun and entainment. To make your holiday even more special, day or night, unwind and relax in the wood burning hot tub with a glass of wine in a super atmosphere.
We think we are very privileged to be able to live in this lovely area of Mid Wales. It is a pleasure to share it with anyone who wants to visit us and enjoy all we have to offer.
  • Everything was wonderful! The house is fabulous. We were a family of 8 adults and a 2 year old, there was lots of space for us all. The surrounding views are spectacular. The hot tub is super touch. It snowed while we were there, but that didn't stop us using it, in fact we were almost too hot! Rachel was a fantastic host, great communication and gave us some tips on places to eat which were also good. We were there to celebrate a family Christmas but also to go to the rally school which is only 10 minutes away, so a superb location to stay if you're thinking of doing the same. We would absolutely recommend Middle Hivron to anyone, and we will definitely be back.

    Vanessa2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at Middle Hivron. The location is idyllic and so peaceful. We loved the view of the landscape from the hot tub and watching the sheep and horses in the nearby field! The house was clean, comfortable and had everything we could possibly want and need. Rachel's thoughtful touches such as robes and flip flops for use of the hot tub, and milk, eggs and bread were much appreciated. Everything was thought of. Thank you for a lovely stay, we will be back for another relaxing break.

    Robyn2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you so much Rachel. We had a great weekend. The finishing touches were great, we were so grateful for the eggs, tea/coffee, milk etc. Rachel let us check out late so we could watch the rugby World Cup in the morning. The board games were great fun, the hot tub was lovely. The instructions left were clear and easy to understand. The information available for things to do and walking route were fab and very helpful. The whole place was super clean and the bedrooms were lovely. Rachel sent over instruction for how to find the place and we all managed to successfully find Middle Hivron first time with no hiccups. Would definitely recommend.

  • Rachel was extremely helpful and quick at replying to questions that we had prior to our arrival. We felt very welcome and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Also enjoyed the 'Haggle' game that we found! It is worth noting that the hot tub takes a few hours to heat up but was worth the wait! Would definitely stay again!

  • The cottage is just as advertised, comfy and very well stocked with useful stuff such as salt, pepper, tea, etc. The views from the conservatory/dining room are superb, plus lots of bird action on the feeders. Welcome was great at the owners house, with tea and cake for us and communication was excellent. They were very friendly and helpful, and there is loads of info in the cottage on what to do and where to eat. Rooms were clean and well equipped, if all a little old fashioned, but that just added to the charm. Parking on front of the cottage, but it is on a B road so need to be careful. We loved our time there.

  • We had a warm welcome with cake and a glorious feeding session of sheep, alpacas and chickens. The cottage is surprisingly spacious, well-appointed, clean and comfortable. The sunlounge gives a breathtaking view of local birds feeding. Once the windows are open, the murmer of the river below is relaxing.
