Places to stay in Llangorse
In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort.
Thank you so much to everyone that has stayed and left such lovely reviews. Yes it's a small space but everyone seems to have enjoyed staying. We've certainly enjoyed it ourselves a couple of times (well we had to test it didn't we!) Nowhere else can you stay with a view like this from your comfortable bed! We are only 15 minutes from Hay on Wye and the perfect place to stay during the Hay festival. The Hobbit House has a wood-fired cooker so that you can cook your own meals and there is running water just outside. A large sofabed folds out to a full-sized double bed with a deep comfortable mattress. All bedding etc provided. Dinner and breakfast can be provided at extra cost - how about a nice hearty stew in a slow-cooker ready for you to arrive, with fresh bread warming in the Hobbit House's wood-fired oven? We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) PLEASE NOTE: 95% of people have loved staying here, but it isn't to everyone's tastes. it IS small. it does have a sofa bed rather than a proper bed. The bathroom is down in our house and although it is for your exclusive use, it is a 30 second walk away. This is glamping, not luxury. But if that suits you then you'll have an amazing time.
A Hobbit House in the middle of the beautiful Brecon Beacons. I think that's pretty unique don't you?!
  • We spent 2 nights in the hobbit house and it was fantastic! Tin supplier fire wood which was amazing as it was freezing cold!!! Any young couples looking for a quirky weekend away and like having adventures this is the place for you.

    Jason2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The hobbit house really is small, but it's also gorgeous. We were very cosy once the fire was going and had everything we needed. We cooked all our meals on the wood-fired stove which is a wonderful way to cook! We cheated and used our camping stove for coffee in the morning when we weren't patient enough for the fire to get going. The location is superb, with beautiful views and excellent walks right on the doorstep: we didn't quite make it up Waun Fach due to high winds but had a wonderful walk nonetheless culminating in a delicious pint in the Dragon's Back pub. And there are loads of fantastic walks within a short driving distance. Talgarth is just a short drive away for getting in some supplies, and there is a short but beautiful walk with impressive waterfalls right next to the town. The whole area was pretty muddy when we were there so be prepared if it's been raining!

  • What a fun place to stay, one of a kind! We loved spending the night in your Hobbit House, especially our 3 year old who had a blast! She especially loved Bear and helping keep an eye on the fire. It was a great addition to our adventures in Wales, just walking up to it was exciting with our tour guide, Bear the dog! The milk and chocolate was a lovely surprise too, thank you very much for a unique place to rest our heads.

  • Amazing place to stay. Tin is very informative and quick to respond. Thank you for a great stay

    Mark2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place, truly magical. The surrounding areas are fabulous and Bear is a super extra host! The place was super clean, the fire was fab and the brochures were really helpful. Would definitely recommend a local pub called the Farmers Arms for some reasonably priced but amazing food :) 10/10 will stay again!

    Charlotte2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • I sent my brother and his wife to the hobbit hole as a present!! They absolutely loved it.

    Rochelle2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • Booked this lovely weekend away for my partners Birthday, we really enjoyed our stay it's very cosey in the hobbit house :) we will definitely be going back again soon! There is also so much to do with beautiful wallks and surroundings.

    Rebecca2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Booked the hobbit house as a treat to my friend for her birthday as she’s obsessed with the films and going to see the real one. We had a little trouble with the front door when first getting there as a little stiff but once I managed to get hold of tin it was absolutely perfect! Couldn’t have wished for more, the pub across the road is very friendly and has decent food. Lots of great walks to do (just bring good walking boots as we didn’t plan that part well). We didn’t get to meet tin and Rosie but were very helpful when we reached out. Bear was lovely and is just the sweetest! Would definitely recommend!

  • This is an amazing apartment to stay for a get away. I came with my boyfriend and it’s in such a beautiful location with amazing walks nearby. Would love to come back and stay again soon! Jacqui was lovely and was always around if we ever needed anything and provided breakfast which was a lovely start to each day.

    Cara2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We love to stay at Riversound, mostly because Jacqui takes such good care of us We do not have to worry about breakfast or sandwich makings. She keeps us full of croissants, toast, tea, yogurt and fresh fruit! The space is lovingly decorated and you go to sleep and wake up to the river outside your door. Lots of pubs within walking or a quick drive. If you are like me, and work full time and want to escape this is a slice of heaven. We moved on to a place in north Wales that is nice with a view. There is such a difference in how I feel coming to Jacqui's home..it is so cozy and delightful.

    Carina2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning place, beautiful scenes, cosy and clean! Fully recommend!

    Sophie2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • We needed 2 days of rest and nature. We got more than we needed here. The open fire, the rushing waters and the water fall on your door step cleared away any cobwebs. This is an amazing place to stay. I can not recommend Jacqui and John highly enough.

    Maged2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, had breakfast stuff and drink etc there waiting for us. No cooker or hob but the pub was about a minute walk from the house or there were loads of places around if you’ve got a car. It was raining when we were there but it would have been so lovely to sit outside and have breakfast and watch the river. Lots of maps and personal recommendations for things to do when we arrived. We drive to the four waterfalls and did the walk which was amazing but it was a bit of a drive. Definitely need a car if you want to explore. Very pretty views. We had a lovely time.

    Cassia2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage, great location. Quick responses with tips on the local area. Amazing extras for special touch. Biscuits, fruit, milk, juice, breakfast condiments, bread, fresh coffee. Made the weekend very special. Even messaged to say not to rush checking out and to take our time. Thanks so much for a lovely stay x

    Laura2020-02-02T00:00:00Z

We moved to the Brecon Beacons to enjoy the good life. We have a little bit of land and a few animals. We're planting as many trees as we can for heating - over 2,000 so far! we also have a hobbit house! This room has an en-suite shower room and includes exclusive use of a large outdoor wood-fired hot tub!
On the side of a Welsh mountain in the Brecon Beacons but easy to find and with good road access to the local area. We have a number of great walks starting from the doorstep and a rural pub over the road. (please note that the pub is generally only open at weekends) This is a ground floor room with en-suite shower room. The room has a double bed and also a pull out camp bed for a third person as needed. There are a couple of steps though so please contact us if you have special requirements. We also have our very own our "hobbit house" which is also available to rent!
Where better to stay than the beautiful Brecon Beacons?
  • The house was as described, a home away from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away here. The local knowledge booklet in the room was great, we did one of the walks suggested straight from the door of the cottage. The hot tub is amazing. Bear was adorable and very well behaved. Would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing, yet homely stay.

    Eleanor2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A home from home, we felt so very welcome at Tin’s place, but also had complete freedom to come and go as we pleased. Perfect place to explore the local area, or relax and enjoy the amazing hot tub! X

    Karin2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great space, warm cosy and excellent for a real escape (we had 0 phone signal) which was refreshing and relaxing. Great space to chill out and access to the hot tub

  • Beautiful location. Ridiculously friendly hosts. Would definitely stay again!!!

    Caitlin2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Tin and Rosie’s home is beautiful and so welcoming! If it wasn’t for storm Dennis we would have taken a dip in the hot tub! But we will come back when it’s a bit sunnier!!

    Megan2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time staying here, family were lovely and welcoming and we thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, perfect way to relax.

    Nicole2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • What a great place! I was looking for a quiet spot to relax and unwind with my wife for her birthday. On arrival there is an info pack and obviously the WiFi code 😎. That is all we needed! We spent time exploring both Crickhowell and Brecon. Unfortunately the weather put an end to any hill walking but that was expected. The listing describes this place superbly. The hot tub was excellent and although the air temperature was cold 🥶 the water was perfect. We didn’t bump into our hosts but we did meet “Bear” their dog. He is just a bundle of energy and so friendly. We recommend this place if you’re looking for a quiet spot. A car is needed to get about which was advised in the listing so everything was perfect 👌🏻

    Gareth2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tin was a wonderful host and nothing was too much trouble. We felt really welcome and comfortable during our stay. Lovely hot tub and very sweet dog and cat which was just the icing on the cake! As it says, the location is by the main road, but as a light sleeper it didn’t bother me at all. Thank you again, Tin!

Our rustic shepherd's hut is located on our small family farm just outside of Talybont on Usk in the Brecon Beacons National Park. Wander down to the local pub, head out over the mountains and gaze at the stars (telescope available!). Discover Cymru - chosen as one of the best AirBnBs in Wales! The hut gets it's name from the Welsh for orchard - Y Berllan, as it sits beside our orchard. We also have two other little huts called 'Tor y Foel' and 'Pen y Fan'
Get off-grid in luxury in our shepherds hut. You'll be warm as the hut is fully insulated and contains a wood-burning stove (first basket of logs included, please bring extra with you or purchase from village shop or local garages). The lights and sockets are powered by a solar panel which should be fine for charging phones etc. Cook either on the top of the stove, BBQ grill or gas camping hobs. The double bed has plenty of pillows and a sheet but you'll want to bring your own sleeping bag/s or duvet. There is no water supply to the hut itself but you'll be able to fill a jerrycan (from the wash hut) and top up the canteen. Heat water on the wood burner or gas. The wash hut is located 100m away on the yard. There you'll find the WC and shower.
Quiet countryside with excellent local pubs and restaurants.
  • Great get away. Hut has everything you need and loved the log burner.

    Natalie2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at the shepherds hut on a frozen January weekend! The log fire was so toasty and we felt really cosy. Also great location for close pubs and walks.

  • A beautiful hut in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. Fantastic for a weekend away walking. The hut has everything you need for cooking and the wood burner makes it very cosy and snug. Will be back.

    Hugh2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • A nice hut away from everything. Accessible via public transport. The hut had everything I needed for my stay and the wash room wasn't far away. It was warm when I got the fire going. It was good to have a gas hob as well to make a cuppa before the fire. Really nice off grid place!

    Sandra2019-11-17T00:00:00Z

The School Annex is bike and walker friendly with the Taff Trail right on its doorstep. Talybont-on-Usk is a great hub for exploring the Brecon Beacons: walking, cycling, stunning scenery & incredible star gazing right on your doorstep. A detached self-catering holiday cottage, next to the owners home, it's ideal for long weekends, short breaks or longer stays. Whether you aim for the mountains or just want to relax & enjoy the views, you may find 2 nights isn't quite long enough - just saying!
The School Annex is on the edge of the small village of Talybont on Usk, a village in the Brecon Beacons with canal and rivers offering an excellent base for exploring with walking and cycling direct from the garden and incredible star gazing at night. You are only a few minutes walk from the village shop, cafe and post office and two great pubs serving a good range of local food. The School Annex comfortably sleeps four adults or a family of 5 . If a family of 2 adults with children, please note that we don't charge the extra per person per night rate for over 4 people. This is only for extra adults. Bedroom One: the Mezzanine is up some very steep steps so not suitable for children or if you need to get up lots for the loo in the night! You will find one superking bed up here which can be split in to two singles. An occasional single can also be put in this large space if required. There is a large Velux above the bed which means you can relax and star gaze and then close the black out blind with a remote whilst lying in bed. Please view our pictures. Bedroom Two: is downstairs with a double bed and a single bunk bed above it. There is a separate toilet next to this bedroom space. See pictures. Study: we are able to put an occasional single bed in this space if downstairs sleeping is required for more than two adults or children. Please ask if this is an option you want to investigate but note that it wouldn't give complete privacy. Bathroom: this is a good sized bathroom with shower (no bath), toilet and sink. For families with babies we do have a baby bath which fits perfectly inside the shower. Kitchen/Diner: Please note that the large kitchen/diner is separate from the main liveing accommodation but only by a few steps across the courtyard. It is large enough to relax in and has a dart board at the back. Whilst quirky, on the plus side it does eliminate cooking odours from invading the living and sleeping space. It also means that groups can socialise late or get up at different times without disturbing the others! Tea and coffee making facilities are in the living space for a cuppa when you want it. Please view our pictures which include a 3D layout of the accommodation so you can visualise how it is laid out. Cycle Friendly: we are cycle friendly accommodation with a space to lock up bikes and wash them down at the end of a days cycling. Talybont is a Brecon Beacons Mountain Bike hub too so some great rides right from the doorstep! We are also a short car drive to Bike Park Wales. When you come back muddy, there is a washing machine and lots of drying space. Coming in an electric car? We have a type 1 charge station next to your parking space which is fine for an overnight charge. If you need a fast charge then the village hall has a fast charge station and tokens are £5 from the village shop. Easy! Whether you are looking for an activity break, want to visit some of the many places of interest in and around the Brecon Beacons, or just want to take time out and relax, this self catering holiday property offers a high standard of accommodation in a fantastic location. Some useful things to know for your packing! We provide in the kitchen: washing up liquid, T-towels, dish cloths, salt, pepper, cooking oil, cling film, silver foil, kitchen roll, bin bags and a little tea, coffee and sugar to get you going. We don't provide washing powder for the washing machine but do have eco wash balls which work well if you want to give them a go! Here you will also find OS maps of the area and lots of local information. For the bathroom we provide: good quality hair and body shower gel, conditioner, hand soap, towels. In the main accommodation you will also find a mini fridge which will have some milk in it for your complementary teas and coffee. If you forget your slippers there is a box of assorted slippers to choose from and in the winter you will find a hot water bottle on your bed!
The School Annex is in a stunning location in the small rural village of Talybont on Usk but with great local places to eat and drink, all within walking distance. There is easy access out in to the Brecon Beacons and the Taff Trail for walking and cycling. The towns of Brecon, Crickhowell and Abergavenny are within easy reach by car.
  • Clare's place is an absolute gem - with two couples (4 persons total) we felt so wonderfully looked after and comfortable! The location is perfect, as nature lovers we found the proximity to the Talybont reservoir appealing, and we found it an easy drive to the four falls hike, the Red kite feeding site, and a few castles! Thanks so much Clare!

  • We had an excellent stay! It’s a very well cared for, thoughtful space. Everything you could need and comfortable and cosy. Beautiful garden. A great location too. A real home from home (vs some disappointments I’ve had with air bnb recently! Has restored my faith somewhat!) Would definitely like to return!

  • Wonderful stay with special appreciation for Clare’s caring attentiveness beginning from the initial communication to the final goodbye on checkout. A lovely peaceful spot with gracious hospitality and delicious pasture-fed eggs from Clare’s chickens.

    Joel2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect stay. I was over thinking the kitchen being away from the main accommodation but in the end it didn’t matter at all and actually it felt good to spend time in the separate kitchen space with the family. Clare was a perfect host and massively over delivered on providing Xmas decorations, supplied extra food shopping on our arrival, helpful tips on things to do. A very nice stay and everyone said they want to come again. Merry Xmas 😀

The cottage is well equipped, with TV (Freesat), DVD, ceramic hob and fan-assisted oven, fridge with small freezer compartment, micro-wave, washing machine and all the usual bits and pieces to make the kitchen work a little better. • We had an amazing time staying at this lovely little homely bungalow, the inclusion of a log burning stove makes it feel very comfy and cosy! Julie was an amazing host and provided everything we could need and more, with little touches like leaving us freshly baked cake! This is a great place to view the mountains which can be enjoyed from the comfort of the house, or if you prefer, a 20 minute drive away so you can walk up them! We would definitely come again and have already talked about returning in the summer! Thank you Julie, for such a memorable and lovely break!

Penybont Barn is an old converted farm building full of character, with exposed beams and nooks and crannies. Beautiful views of the garden and mountains. It comfortably accommodates up to 4 people, has all mod cons, a private garden that backs on to a charming stream and private parking. It is in short walking distance to two local pubs. Access directly to many walks and rides. The towns of Brecon & Hay on Wye are only short drive away. It is the perfect place to enjoy life at your own pace.
As you enter the property what grabs you is the quirkiness of the barn, the exposed beams, thick walls and charming features. The living quarters are upstairs including a cosy lounge with leather furniture, an electric fire and TV/DVD/streaming options. The fully fitted kitchen has an induction hob, double oven, fridge, freezer, dish washer and washing machine for all your needs. A dining area for six people. The downstairs bedrooms are quiet and cool, a perfect temperature for a good nights sleep. Both have a wardrobe and a chest of drawers and windows that open out on to the brook alongside. The bathroom has a bath and shower which includes a rain option. Bed linen and towels are provided. Nearby Llangorse lake is a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Penybont Barn is ideally located to explore the Brecon Beacons by bike, on foot or by car.
  • J&F's place was the perfect place for our weekend. A 30 second walk to the nearest pub and close to plenty of walks. We visited as we had a running event in Crickhowell which is only a short 20 minute drive away. The Barn was clean, well presented and very inviting. Would definitely come back to visit again. Cheers for having us!

  • A lovely cottage in quiet location but within easy access of the pub.

Very quiet and convenient location on bus route halfways between Brecon city and book town Hay-on-Wye. Chaotic household (haven't managed to get on top of clutter), basic accommodation (mattress on the floor of my therapy room), shared bathroom and living room - not much privacy but comfortable enough, if you want to be out and about around Brecon.
the room is my therapy room. No door, only a bamboo blind / curtain, so cannot be locked. Thin walls (it's a Park Home, basically made from hardboard and wood). Might need the room occasionally for therapies.
retirement park homes, very quiet (no parties or loud music please, no children).
  • Cosy place to sleep with a hot shower and great proximity to the Brecon beacons. Wynona is a kind and welcoming host :)

    Jacob2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • I recommend Wynona's place, who will make you feel welcome and will be helpful with information about the area.

    Severine2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • The pledge was as described and Wynona was a warm and welcoming host. Very much a lived in place where I was made to feel very welcome.

    David2019-05-05T00:00:00Z
  • A very good place to stay for those targetting lower budget. The location is good with Brecon Beacons, Langrose lake and other nice places not too far. And Wynona is warm and energetic person, imagine, even dancing Zumba at her age. And really nice to talk to. Would recommend the place for others, as well as planning to come back myself.

  • We had a lovely weekend and especially enjoyed chatting with Cemaes and Gwen at breakfast both mornings - and Cemaes makes a great cup of coffee! Everything was so clean and the tea and cakes in our room were a great touch! There were kennels available for our doggies when we wanted to go out for dinner. The sitting room was perfect after a long day of exploring. We really enjoyed warming up by the fire.

    Morgan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful stay with Gwen and Cemaes. After an excellent walk over the hill, I was able to cuddle up in their snug to do some overdue work and then watch Wales, sadly, lose to France with Gwen and her lovely sister in their amazing kitchen. A lovely breakfast cooked by Camaes the following morning was the perfect end to a lovely stay - I can't wait to go back!

  • You could not ask for a friendlier Welsh experience, in a truly beautiful location! There was a real rustic feel to the farm house and we loved seeing all the family photos and history of the farm around the house. The views of the lake are stunning! We were also lucky enough to meet some of the newborn lambs. The experience just gave us so much more than what we were expecting! There are plenty of pubs with great food nearby and the location was perfect for exploring Brecon (we were only about 20 mins from Pen-Y-Fan). We hope to be visiting again soon!

  • Lovely little place, we had a great stay. We stayed when Storm Dennis hit so unfortunately we couldn't go out and do the walks we wanted to, but the cottage was so comfortable we happily stayed in and played board games. I would have been happy to stay here for another week, the place had everything we needed. Hopefully we can come back when the weather is better!!!

  • We had a lovely quiet stay at the cottage. It has everything you need, is warm and comfortable and we appreciated being left to our own devices. There are places to eat within easy walking distance and the Brecon Beacons are on the doorstep.

  • Great little annexe with everything you might need for a weekend away. 5min walk to the pub and village shop, lovely warm bedroom and sitting room, great freestanding bath to have a hot soak in after a long day's hiking! And it's great value for money - I would highly recommend Gilly's place if you are looking for a base from which to explore the Breacons!

    Kate2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was a really great place for a winter weekend in the mountains. Really cosy kitchen/lounge area, with the bedroom & bathroom leading directly off of this - both comfy, modern & everything we needed. • The Glass House it’s absolutely beautiful. The view from all the windows in the house of the stunning Welsh Countryside is unrivalled! Deri was an amazing host, especially as our group were there during Storm Dennis and historic flooding in Wales. Despite having his own home, farm and friends to look after Deri made absolutely sure we were all safe! There was more than enough room for all of us and the hot tub was great. It was a cracking weekend even with the weather. We will definitely return to make the most of all the walks and activities near by. A bonus - the local pub is less then 5 mins on foot!

    Jo2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wow!!!!! What an amazing place to stay! We had an excellent start with our stay, a nice welcome pack of wine and beers, gratefully received from Deri. The place itself far exceeded our expectations, modern, clean and all the amenities you could wish for. The beds were super comfy and everything was sparkling clean. There was plenty of everything to use, easily enough for 7 of us. The hot tub was super and fun! We were lucky enough to bump into Deri in the local pub, such a nice chap. We stopped at the Castle Inn for an evening meal, food was spectacular and plentiful. The service there was second to none, Sarah was amazing as was the landlord who made us feel like one of the locals. We will be returning here again without doubt, amazing place!

  • The Glass House was fabulous..it was bigger than we expected too. It has everything you need , very well equipped and clean. It’s set in a farmyard which is a treat in itself. With sheep at the fence etc. It was very quiet, no road noise , nothing ...It’s modern with a fab tv and a garden for the children. The hot tub was great, and actually hot, fab for the cold nights. There were 8 of us and so much room with the 2 lounges. We expected a lot from this house as it wasn’t cheap but in my honest opinion it was worth every penny. Deri lives across the yard so anything can be sorted..he even gave our Grandson and us an insight into a working sheep dog. It was fabulous for us townies. If you want peace and quiet in a rural location but with good amenities then you won’t be disappointed...nearest big town for shopping is Brecon a 10 minute ride away.

Very clean, spacious and modern. Amenities supplied like tea coffee and sugar. Simple checking in and out, great response from Deri when contacting him. Would highly recommend!

Cliff even waited to meet us dispite us turning up late. The place was spotless, comfortable and well equipped .I will definitely come back in the future. Perfect, for a party of 6-8people.

  • We were a group of five people and Cliff was really accommodating with us as we choose to spend a weekend there during one of the worst storms in UK. The cottage is spacious, clean, with all the amenities one would need. It was warm, the beds were comfortable and water pressure was great. Very quiet area with just a small road where there are very few cars passing by. Communication was perfect and always helpful. We hope to come again in the summer when the weather is better!

The place was spotlessly clean and Cliff was a fantastic host - even helping with our luggage when we arrived late and in the rain! We will return!!

  • Arrived in torrential rain, Cliff and Anne we’re both there to welcome us and help us in with our bags. We were not rushed out early on the Monday and were offered an extra night as the weather had been truly awful for our first day! The house itself was lovely and very clean, it had everything we needed. The log burner in the lounge made the evenings nice and cosy. Plenty space for 6 adults and a toddler to be together but still have their own space. Would recommend this place and the surrounding area👍🏻

  • A lovely place to hibernate. Huge comfy sofa to curl up on, a great kitchen to cook your own meals and a conservatory to enjoy breakfast when the sun finally made an appearance. The log burner was a great addition but the room was so cosy we barely needed it.

  • Kate's place is very clean and well equipped, the bed is very comfy and the kitchen has everything you need to cook simple meals. Talgarth is a very picturesque village, you will need a car to explore further afield in the brecons. A lovely place for a stay in the countryside. Thanks Kate

  • I was doing an art course a few doors away so Kate’s place was perfect. It had everything I needed for a short stay and was warm and cosy. It appears to have been newly decorated and is very comfortable. The little kitchen was very well equipped so that I could cook simple meals and do breakfast every morning. The views from the small living room and bedroom are just beautiful. The sun comes up and shines directly into your bedroom while you look across to the Brecon beacons. Pure magic!

    Rebecca2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place was lovely, very close to the local town and other towns wernt too far away when you drive. The house was beautiful, very well designed and spacious. Watch the little jack Russell’s, they will randomly appear in your room which we loved and entertained our ridgeback to no end but all of a sudden appear under your feet! If you’re looking for easy going people and good accommodation I couldn’t recommend it enough.

  • Nice pub with very reasonable accommodation, also serves food (except Sunday evenings) and there was a very decent continental breakfast with the room. The room I was in had a wonderful shower and was spacious with everything I needed, although it was in the roof with beams so there might be some height issues if you are very tall! Great for my short stay and there's a beer garden too if the weather is good. Recommended ****

Ideal for 2 people to get away to the beautiful Welsh countryside. The 'Little Barn' is located about 1.5 miles SW of the small town of Talgarth with fantastic views of the Black mountains. Ideal for a break whether it’s mountain walking, cycling, visiting the local book, food, countryside living or jazz festivals, or some peace and quiet to reflect on life. Has all kitchen amenities needed plus towels&bedding. There is a shower room with toilet and basin. WiFi and flat-screen TV.
The Little Barn is next to Pentwyn the main residence. Pentwyn is a 400 year old Welsh derivative Longhouse one of only two of its kind in Wales. It has several features within it that date it back to 1600. Just to the north of Pentwyn and the Little Barn is a ‘Motte’, also referred to a tumulus on most maps. Pentwyn is in the hamlet of Tredustan which includes a farm and a couple of dwellings. If you enjoy walking there is a bridle way that runs along the front of Pentwyn over to the village of Trefecca and beyond to Mynydd Troed. In th opposite direction the bridleway takes you to the village of Llanfilo. The nearest town of Talgarth has a Co-op in the square. The Bakers Table also in the square sells locally produced bread and cakes and serves coffee and food, a delightful place to stop and take a break as it is situated over the river Ennig. There is an excellent local butcher and newsagent/greengrocer in Talgarth. The nearest petrol station in in the village of Bronllys where there is also the ‘Honey Cafe’, with a wide ranging menu of locally produced food. Brecon, eight miles away is a lovely market town with the Beacons in the backdrop. Here there is a Morrisons and an ALDI. In August Brecon hosts a Jazz festival as well as a food festival. Hay on Wye is seven miles to the east, a charming market town now famous for its second hand bookshops. There are several small bistros in particular to one one inside the Richard Booths bookshop being one of my favourites. You book a table when you turn up so you may have to wait a short time. There is also a small recently opened cinema also owned by this bookshop.
  • Little Barn is adorable and very cosy. Chris is an excellent host, quick responses and lots of helpful tips on the local area. His two cats are very friendly and make great companions as well.

Terrible weather but the barn made it feel nice to just stay inside - everything you need and so lovely to lie in and stare out of those big double doors at the misty mountain! Would definitely recommend - Chris was lovely and the place is very private - delicious honey for sale too! Thankyou

Picturesque Llangorse has the largest natural lake in South Wales with arguably the most beautiful views of the Brecon Beacons. The lake boasts a Crannog which is a man made island made of hazel, willow and oak and over 1000 years old. It is also a great base for wildlife lovers. Boat hire and fishing are available.
  • We stayed in the Cow's Cubicle and had a lovely time, was clean and had unique decorations to make the shed feel like a home away from home. Ideal if you're looking for great local walks and the local pub is a short drive away with a huge selection of everything. A fabulous night stay. The views from the shed were amazing.

    Bronwyn2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a cosy space! We booked a last minute night away to Llangorse, we found this hidden little gem. The hut is basic but has everything you need and is really cosy, and despite the cold weather the little heater kept the hut nice and warm. We went to a local pub called the Castle which serves lovely pub grub and is very dog friendly, it was almost like crufts there this weekend! Camaes greeted us upon arrival and also checked in on us in the morning to see how we were doing :) we were also provided with a continental breakfast in the morning in the cutest picnic basket, which we enjoyed looking over the lake. We will definitely be back with friends in the summer!

    Gabriel2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • A fantastic escape with very welcoming (but not interfering) and friendly hosts with incredible dark skies for star gazing and the most wonderful view to wake up to. The pull out bed makes a very comfortable king sized. A well kept path leads the short distance to the very clean kitchen and wash room. The heater in the room worked really well, we were very cosy but there were additional duvets to use if needed as well. The breakfast left for us was a great bonus.

Enter the cottage via an arch, courtyard garden, with gothic door and exposed beams to find modern comforts such as underfloor heating and Eames chairs and a super king sleigh bed. The wood burner makes winter nights a cosy affair.
The Gardener’s Bothy dates back to the early 1800’s and has now been lovingly restored ensuring the charm and character of this period cottage have not been lost. Original exposed beams and Gothic door reflect a different time and contrast well with the modern interior design, which uses subtle tones of green reflecting the natural surroundings. The kitchen is fully equipped, with a stunning granite work surface and the original flag stone floors which flow from the kitchen into the sitting room. Underfloor heating ensures the Bothy is warm and cosy whatever the weather. In the sitting room there is a comfortable sofa, two arm chairs, a woollen rug, small tables and a Charnwood wood burning stove, the colour of which is in keeping with the subtle tones of the room. There are numerous books including those of local interest and those with a gardening theme. There is a dining table with Eames chairs. The dining table extends to accommodate six people, if required. French windows lead out to a sitting area with a bistro table and chairs, whilst the kitchen door opens onto the second patio with table and chairs to seat six. Upstairs are two bedrooms. In the first the dark wood of the ceiling timbers is reflected in the beautiful polished wood of the super-king sleigh bed on which, to compliment the delicate greens, delicate shades of purple and lilac are introduced in the cover and cushions. In the second bedroom the colours are of gentler shades, with two attractive brass and cream twin beds and tones of green in the covers. The Bothy is set in beautiful surroundings, with both views through the beech copse to the park and woodland beyond and views to the outer courtyard.
From the cottage door, walk towards the beech copse and meadow for a stroll along the canal or up onto the peaks of the Brecon Beacons. Within walking distance are a number of local dog friendly pubs serving great food and a number of award winning restaurants are reachable within 30 minutes.

  • The Bothy is a stylishly designed and wonderfully well appointed cottage. The kitchen is exceptionally well equipped - better than home! We really enjoyed having the wood burning stove with the wet Welsh weather. It is an idyllic location for exploring the Brecon hills. Peter also provided us with useful local knowledge on walks, restaurants and even good take aways. The Bothy is meticulously maintained and Peter and his wife are thoughtful hosts: witness the fresh flowers and Easter eggs we found on arrival for our stay over Easter weekend. A class apart.

  • Perfect weekend at the perfect cottage. Peter is very welcoming host, he showed us around and advised on local area with places to explore, to eat and drink. By the way meal at Three horseshoe inn recommended by Peter was amazing also its dog friendly pub so our dog Max didn’t feel left out. The cottage itself was absolutely amazing we stayed at The Dairy. The Dairy is very lovely tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean cottage will everything you ever need or want! I loved fresh flowers in the house is very nice touch. Overall cottage just felt loved. We felt totally at home there. But best thing for us was huge enclosed garden. Max absolutely loved it. We were so lucky with weather and spent most of the time outside it was so nice to have a meal outside and have a glass or two under the stars. Stunning! We will be back soon

  • Very quaint and cosy accommodation, fantastic location and a very welcoming host. Great place to stay for walking and dogs. My expectations were far exceeded.

  • We stayed at The Dairy over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend and were greeted by Peter, who showed us to the cottage and provided some really helpful tips and ideas of what we could do in and around Ty Mawr. The Dairy was very well equipped, the kitchen had everything! Plus some essentials, which were unexpected but very much appreciated. The amenities generally were excellent and the cottage was very comfortable, with lovely décor. The garden is unexpectedly large, with so much space for our little dog to run around in. We could imagine with some sunnier weather it would have been perfect to spend time in. I could not fault the accommodation and would definitely look to stay here again to further explore Brecon Beacons. The location was perfect to drive to some of the walks and there was lots of information in the guest pack on things to do around the area. I would not hesitate to recommend booking to stay at The Diary, it does not disappoint and will definitely be back to stay again! Peter was a very welcoming host and communication was excellent throughout.

  • Staying at Diane's cottage was a lovely break in a quiet, peaceful and scenic location. Most comfortably appointed with everything to meet our needs. • A great location for 2 travellers looking for a countryside break. We came over New Year and did lots of exploring of the local area - super walks, castles, pubs, canals, rivers, great views... Would love to come back in summer and try out the kayaking (you can see kayakers going down the river from this bedroom window but it was a little too cold for us to try that in winter)! Thank you Sue and Bryan!

  • We absolutely loved the shepherds hut. It had everything we needed for 2 nights of peace and quiet. The hut is well equipped and the log burner keeps you super toasty on a cold night. The shower room was nice and warm and again was really well equipped. I cant fault this little air bnb. We have the most perfect NYE watching shooting stars from the steps of the hut whilst drinking prosecco. Absolute heaven.

    Michelle2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you for having us, we both very much enjoyed our stay at the hut. Despite it was a very cold rainy weekend, both the hut and the bathroom were very warm. Unfortunately, we got stuck in a few floods on our way and also by the accommodation - but Howard was kind enough to tow us out.

A beautiful barn conversion situated in a remote but accessible location with stunning views and unrivalled walking straight from the front door. Comfortably sleeps a family of four or ideal for couples looking to lose themselves in the wonderful scenery. Whether you want to take advantage of all the activities on offer in the Beacons, or just cosy down in front of the fire with a good book, Holly Tree is the place for you.
Our favourite room is the cosy stone walled living room. After a day's walking, there is nothing like settling down in front of the log burner with a glass of wine! The kitchen diner is well equipped, and you can sit at the table planning your next walk on the full size OS wall map. Upstairs is a lovely twin room which is great for the kids, while you relax in the double looking out over the valley.
Holly Tree is all about the walking - either a short walk across the fields to the pub, or a full day up exploring the hills. You could spend a week exploring without ever moving your car from the car-park! Of course the Beacons has loads more to offer, including charming market towns like Crickhowell, Talgarth and Brecon, spectacular waterfalls, castles, roman remains and all sorts of activities like canoeing, biking, horseriding etc.
