  • Fabulous little hideaway. Perfect setting and superbly comfortable.

    Helen2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • You can expect a ‘true’ countryside experience in this place. We really had a good time enjoying the stunningly beautiful scenery around the accommodation (field and the farm). A place is a bit far remote so be mentally prepared to drive up the hill but not really too challenging in my opinion. Should be there before dark as roads could be tricky. Also ensure you take care your dinner before getting there - just an advice!

Our cottage offers very comfortable accommodation in the centre of this lovely market town. The cottage is cosy and makes maximum use of space. We offer a warm friendly welcome. PET FRIENDLY & PARKING PERMIT FOR 4 NIGHT+ STAYS (pre notice required with registration)
Guests can use the entire house and outside courtyard area with seating. There is a double bedroom with a snug en-suite shower room. A further double bedroom with family bathroom opposite, and the top floor is a twin room with en-suite toilet and sink. So there is little fighting for the loo! Downstairs is quite open plan with cosy cottage beams. We have a guest book with suggestions and what to do and where to eat locally. And we always leave a treat for our guests on arrival to make you feel welcome.
The cottage is centrally located, close to shops, bars and restaurants. It is a 5 minutes walk away from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and 5 minutes walk away from the public swimming pool and gym. It is 1 minute away from the bus stop should you choose public transport to get around and see the fantastic local attractions
  • Great place and centrally located, had a fantastic weekend with friends

    Chris2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, cosy cottage at the heart of Pickering. Very close to Pickering Castle and the famous railway station (both were closed during my visit, since it was off season). There is a car park right across the road from the cottage at very low cost during the day, and for free at night. Very easy check in and check out. A Great place to stay with your family or friends when you want to get away from everything else. 🙃

Hall Cottage is situated in the picturesque village of Levisham on the edge of the North York Moors. It is an ideal location for walking, visiting the coast or the many visitor attractions nearby. Levisham is a typical North York Moors village with a single street bounded by common land verges and stone cottages. The Horseshoe Inn sits at the top of the village, 200 yards across The Green from Hall Cottage.
When you visit Hall Cottage you will have your own entrance with a key. You will have the sole use of a sitting room which has a wood burning stove for those chilly evenings. Breakfast is served on a table in the sitting room. In the hallway which leads through to your bedroom and bathroom are tea and coffee making facilities. There is a fridge, kettle and toaster also in this area for your sole use.
We live in a very friendly village and everyone takes pride in the appearance of their cottages and the green outside. It is only a short walk up to the moor which is amazing in July and August, a mass of purple with the heather blooming.
  • I had a fantastic stay at Louise's cottage and wish I could have stayed more than just one night! She was a fantastic host and made me feel very welcome and comfortable. The cottage is 2 minutes walk from the local pub, The Horseshoe, and Louise can provide a very tasty breakfast. Highly recommended to anyone looking to stay in the area.

    Ed2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Louise's was fantastic..warm, safe and very homely. Louise gave us a delicious breakfast and a great tip on a walk the following morning. We woke up to snow and Luke kindly dropped us back to Pickering so we could make our way back to London ...we were delighted and hope to be back to Levisham

  • A very warm welcome by a lovely lady

    Barry2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Really nice village, lovely property and very welcoming host. Easy to find (from supplied directions), description doesn't do it justice and, of course, comfortable bed and nice breakfast. Wish I'd been able to stay longer ... maybe next time.

    Tony2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely host - a nice stay in excellent family accommodation, spotlessly clean and everything seems to have been thought of. The road to the village is winding and a little up and down so be warned but well worth the fun.

    Geoffrey2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely excellent

    James2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Hall Cottage was cosy and quaint with great hospitality from Louise. I really enjoyed my short stay. There is beautiful countryside and walks in the surrounding area as well as a good pub. Louise's cooked breakfast was also delicious. I whish I could have stayed longer!

One of a pair of moorland cottages, nestled at the foot of the valley in the magical Newtondale, right next to Levisham Station. The fully equipped cottage features railway views across the grounds of Grove House, a cosy log fire, private terrace & shared gardens. A haven for walkers and keen cyclists with picturesque routes from the door. Perfect for railway enthusiasts, featuring views from the cottage as well as seasonal NYMR steam services to Pickering, Goathland, Grosmont & Whitby.
Our cottages are more than 'Dog Friendly'... we are 'Dog Welcoming'! One medium, or two small well-behaved dogs will thoroughly enjoy the wide open spaces of the moors as well as woodland trails & tranquil meadows.
From March to October the North Yorkshire Moors Railway operates regular steam services between Pickering & Whitby. Levisham Station is a quiet 1912 era styled station which serves as a passing place for trains steaming in opposite directions on the single track line. Consequently 2 engines are regularly paused at the station, letting off steam... a regular hustle & bustle before tranquil silence descents upon the place again. Santa Specials run in December and there are services during February Half Term week. Walks begin literally at the door. The Newtondale canyon was formed by the power of glacial melt water at the end of the last ice age. Footpaths take in open moorland, glorious views from Skelton Tower, the spectacular Hole of Horcum as well as steep wooded paths and gentle meadow walks alongside Pickering Beck. As the evening progresses we have the quiet platforms, magical valley and the moor to ourselves. Dusk brings the hoot of the owls and the most spectacular dark skies, teaming with stars normally obscured by light pollution. Bring your telescope of binoculars... or borrow ours.

Characterful and quaint 3 bedroom Grade II listed cottage, built in 1800 with open plan living. Castlegate cottage is a perfect base for exploring the many local attractions and places of interest, such as The Steam railway, Beck Isle museum, The North Yorkshire Moors, Whitby, Scarborough, Flamingo Land, Eden Camp, Dalby Forest and York.
Downstairs there is a spacious open plan living area, tastefully furnished with original beams and a cosy woodburner. Full of charm and character there is comfortable seating, a dining area and compact modern kitchen. Upstairs there are three neutrally decorated bedrooms and a family bathroom with over bath shower. The back door leads to an enclosed walled backyard with seating.
Renovated to a high standard, this 1800 Grade ll listed property is perfect for families and friends wanting to explore the stunning surrounding scenery and the nearby seaside resorts of Whitby and Scarborough. The cottage is a short stroll from Pickering castle ruins which houses great walks and has a skate park for the kids. A 5 minute walk brings you into the hustle and bustle of this popular market town, where a wide array of individual shops, tempting tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and a weekly market along the main street await you. I personally recommend the local family run tea room Bothams and the fabulous Indian Spice 4 you. Other attractions in the immediate area, include the Beck Isle Museum whilst both young and old will enjoy a magical trip on the steam railway, which winds its way through the heather-clad moors to the small village of Grosmont. Well worth visiting are the stately homes and gardens of Castle Howard (from Brideshead Revisited) and Duncombe Park, along with the pretty market towns of Helmsley and Kirkbymoorside. Golfing enthusiasts can enjoy a round at the excellent courses at Malton and Kirkbymoorside, whilst culture lovers will enjoy Byland and Rievaulx Abbeys. With easy access to the coast and wonderful walking through spectacular countryside, this splendid cottage provides a good base, all year round.

  • Lovely cottage, very clean and the beds were so comfy. The log burner is a perfect addition to make it so cosy. We were a family of four staying there with two children and it was great. The downstairs area is small but very cosy. Pickering is a quaint gorgeous place to explore with fab coffee shops and general places to eat. Would recommend.

  • Great place to stay with family or friends. Cottage was clean, comfy beds, had all the basics you’d need for a short stay. Pickering is a lovely town with enough to do during a short stay. If we were ever to visit this neck of the woods again, I wouldn’t hesitate to stay at Castlegate Cottage.

    Liam2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Very friendly welcome barn was very spacious and would recommend

    Pauline2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! It was raining and windy when we arrived at the barn and we were thrilled we didn't have to put up a tent. The barn is VERY basic but it had a kettle and a microwave so a step up from camping! Super convenient for Dalby Forest and Bob made us feel extremely welcome. We will be booking another visit!

    Mathias2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Thank you Robert. Myself and the children had a great stay. It’s the perfect spot for exploring Dalby Forest and the coast. It was really handy having a table and chairs and an electric kettle supplied. Looking forward to visit again.

    Jade2019-07-25T00:00:00Z
  • We unfortunately didn't end up staying here due to personal circumstances we had to cancel. The information we received about the area from Robert was excellent and he kept in contact brilliantly

    Ness2019-06-30T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay and great location. Very helpful, nothing too much trouble and much easier than a tent especially in the rain. We would certainly recommend it and will going back later in the year.

    Susan2019-05-29T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as described. Like camping with a solid tent and a toilet. Robert is great and very helpful. The local area is unreal! It was only 2 degrees out, but having the barn made it enjoyable even with cheap kit. I will be back!

    Paul2018-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We had booked an alternative accommodation for a birthday BBQ/camping trip, however on arrival realised it was far from safe or suitable. Bob came to the rescue and allowed us to stay in the barn with only 10 minutes notice before arrival! The barn is larger than expected and the sheltered area is perfect for a BBQ/campfire. Bob was extremely helpful, couldn't recommend more! Stunning views and excellent location. Thank you again

  • My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage. Recently refurbished to an excellent standard, sparkling clean and decorated with a very cute farm animal theme, we almost didn't want to step outside to explore the lovely countryside! The cottage is perfectly located for easy access to many places - we visited the Moors, York, Scarborough, Whitby and Saltburn. Set back a good way from the nearest village, we felt we were in a very exclusive countryside location. Definitely recommend this property!

    Lana2019-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely little space, beautifully appointed, in a fantastic tucked away location. A gem of a find if you want to explore the gorgeous North Yorkshire Moors. We took our 8 month old daughter with us, taking our own travel cot, and there was plenty of space to have her with us in the mezzanine sleeping area.

    Noel2019-07-22T00:00:00Z

  • The cottage is just off Market Place, the centre of Pickering. It is very clean, homely and well stocked. The ‘Welcome’ pack was a lovely surprise! We would have enjoyed sitting out more in the pretty garden if only the Yorkshire weather had allowed. Plenty of parking and in a quiet area but close to restaurants and facilities including North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which is a must. Couldn’t fault the cottage. We had a great 4-day stay.

    Richard2019-08-14T00:00:00Z

  • Pat's cottage was lovely! A really cosy, well situated place to spend a few nights. There were some thoughtful touches left for us which enabled us to have a cuppa and some biscuits on arrival and bread, milk & eggs for breakfast the next day. There was also a bottle of wine in the fridge which we enjoyed! Check in and communication was all very clear and easy. I'd highly recommend Pat's place if you're looking for somewhere to stay in Pickering.

We loved the fire, the free logs and little touches such as fresh flowers – it felt like home. The children loved the freedom of the gardens and could not wait to get home from our excursions! We loved coming and going through the heavy black gate into an oasis in this nice town."

  • I selected the Forge at Wrelton because we wanted a base for a long weekend between York and Whitby for my partners birthday. If you are looking to stay in this area (which is beautiful) you have to stay at Olwen’s place. Her communication was great and the property was easy to find. Inside it was just perfect for a couple, beautifully appointed and decorated. It was immaculately clean with everything you could want and Olwen had thought of everything from finishing touches like fresh flowers and leaving a couple of special treats as I had told her in advance we were celebrating a birthday. Don’t think twice, just book it! You won’t be disappointed. Thank you again Olwen!

Our house is a tall Victorian terrace in the centre of Pickering - just a 2 minute walk from all the amenities the town has to offer. Pickering is a thriving market town on the edge of the North York moors with the Yorkshire coast a short drive away. The station for the North Yorkshire steam railway is also a 2 minute walk from the house. We are a friendly and welcoming household, more than happy to share our knowledge of places to visit, but are also respectful of guests' privacy.
Tea and coffee making facilities are provided in the room. A friendly Golden Retriever and large tabby cat are also residents The room is up 2 full flights of stairs.
The house is on one of the oldest streets in Pickering, with the castle at the top and the church at the bottom. It commands lovely views across the town to the Hambleton hills. For the more active there are many lovely local walks directly from the house or a short drive away for anyone wanting to explore further. York is 45 minutes away, Whitby 30 and Scarborough 25. Pickering itself has a number of independent shops - 3 butchers, 2 greengrocers along with many gift shops and cafes. We have an interesting musuem displaying artefacts from rural life and a church with well preserved medieval wall paintings. There is much to do in Pickering and the surrounding area. And plenty of eating places - choices for breakfast, lunch or dinner are are a short stroll away.

If you like the peace of the countryside and the busyness of the seaside this is the place for you. The owners can tell you where the best places to go for hidden waterfalls, steam train rides, fossil hunting etc. We arrived stressed and tired, but went home revived and peaceful thanks to this lovely caravan and it’s owners. It is one of the better Airbnb’s that I have been to and I highly recommend it, so much so that I am returning again in a few days!

  • What a great stay we all had. Beautiful 3 bedroom cottage with everything we needed. Plenty of room for our 3 children and 2 dogs. The bunk room ,the boys absolutely loved. The hot tub was a hit. Everything so clean. We loved it and being able to walk the dogs in the huge field was an added bonus, making it all so much more relaxing. Great place to stay, would highly recommend. We will be back.

  • What a great place to stay, very modern and in touch with current trends in accommodation. Well done from a keen business and leisure traveller.

  • We loved our stay - I would highly recommend to others and would happily stay again in future!

    Laura2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was stunning, sparkling clean, big enough for everyone to enjoy their own space, an en-suite and television in every room was a really nice and unexpected touch. The icing on the cake was the tree and Christmas decorations which had been set up for our stay. It’s a little out of the way and a bit difficult to get to but it had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and we can’t recommend it highly enough!

  • Dalby cottage will surpass your expectations! Beautifully located up a sweeping, tree lined drive it is a stylish, comfortable retreat where the hosts have thought of everything. Robes and slippers are provided, with plenty of towels and the hot tub is hot and ready for you on arrival. Freshly ground coffee makes up part of the welcome hamper - and our dog received her own little hamper too. Fabulous walks on site so you don’t have to go too far if you don’t want to. It’s an easy, flat walk to both Pickering and Thornton le dale - which are both worth visiting. Our hosts were amazing - gave great advice and quickly on hand for any queries. This is a very well run affair - we couldn’t fault our stay!

    Sara2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was spacious, clean and extremely well equipped (for cooking etc.) with numerous little touches (bath robes for the hot tub) that made the experience a very comfortable one. The hosts were also helpful with the six-month old we brought, providing a travel cot and high chair. Pickering and Thornton-le-Dale are within walking distance, with the option of taking the scenic route.

  • A really beautiful cottage in picturesque countryside. The hot tub is amazing too! Really useful local information and suggestions of where to eat and drink. Very easy check in procedure. Thank you!

  • Amazing place, just what you need for a relaxing break! Everything had been thought about and was finished to a very high standard! We would return!

A 2 storey cottage, one of a pair, tucked away in the North York Moors National Park, right beside Levisham Station. Fully equipped, the cottage features an open plan living area with log fire, adjoining kitchen, spaceous en-suite bedroom, a private terrace and shared garden. Walks & cycle routes start at the door with wooded glades and expansive open moorland including stunning views. Railway enthusiasts can enjoy the seasonal NYMR steam services between Pickering & Whitby.
See, hear and smell the Steam Trains as they pull into Levisham Station and stand blowing off steam before pulling out on their way south to Pickering or north to Goathland, Grosmont and Whitby. Grab your camera, head for platform every time you hear a train whistle to capture a photography. For the door of the cottage there are walks in every directions, why not head for a hidden secret seats in the woods for great views of the valley and railway.
Bring your telescope or binoculars... or borrow ours.
  • Rowntree Cottage is set in a beautiful location right next to the train station. I was worried that the trains might be obtrusive but not at all - but when we wanted to see them there was a wonderful view from the garden or back window! Kay was a lovely host - thank you for the delicious tea loaf. The cottage had everything we needed and we had a brilliant stay - highly recommended

  • Truly stunning views from the doorstep with lots of walkways nearby. Comfy, well equipped cottage which met all our needs. Host was friendly and knowledgable without being intrusive. The local steam train is fabulous. We’ve had a wonderful memorable week and hope to stay again. Would absolutely, without hesitation recommend staying here if you want to explore all the NY Moors have to offer from a delightful base.

We stayed 3 nights for our honeymoon and it was perfect from start to finish. We didn’t want to leave. The grounds are stunning and we loved everything. Will definitely be returning and will be bringing the dog with us next time xx
