During the SUMMER MONTHS there are a lot of festivals on the occasion of local Holy Monasteries, temples and also there are organized various festivals dedicated to local products. For example the eftazimo(traditional bread) festival in Kroustas, the Afentis Christ festival in Voulismeni(6 August) and celebrations for Mother Mary in August, in Neapoli(15 August). DECEMBER and JANUARY you can join olives collection and after you can watch the whole procedure of olive oil production EASTER in AGIOS NIKOLAOS and also in villages!A unique expirience! Easter in Agios Nikolaos is perhaps the most impressive in Greece. The faithful start gathering round the lake at 11 p.m. on Easter Saturday in order to get the best positions. The best view is if you climb up to the small park above the lake of Agios Nikolaos, from where the scene is even more spectacular. The priests come to the lake from a nearby church around 11:30 and the service of the Resurrection is held on a special platform. At midnight the chant “Christos Anesti” (Christ is Risen) is heard, and night turns to day as hundreds of fireworks are let off. At the same time the effigy of Judas, hanging on a raft in the middle of the lake, is set aflame. AGIOS NIKOLAOS EASTER is around our famous lake with the panoramic and picturesque view!   • Emmanuel's place in the ancient village of Kritsa is really primitive. Although very well renovated and two very good night's sleep, we found the kitchen and its facilities a bit to primitive: OK for lunches but not sufficient to prepare dinner. So, dine out in the village!

  • A gem of a place worth much more than what it goes for. Probably much more attractive in summer but was fully functional in winter as well as we were warm and cosy. Manolis was welcoming, attentive and yet also laid back.

  • Having read the previous reviews for Manolis and his place, I was aware my expectations might be unrealistically high; my expectations were in fact exceeded. This is a truly lovely place to stay (we were there for a week, and frankly, would have loved being there even longer) - everything suited us perfectly the house (and the view), the village (pretty, welcoming, well situated) and Manolis himself who was thoughtful, attentive, charming and who absolutely went the extra mile to make our stay memorable and special.     INTERESTING VILLAGES AND PLACES TO VISIT: LASSITHI PLATEAU Lassithi Plateau is one of the few areas in the Mediterranean with permanent inhabitants at an altitude over 900 metres. Have your camera loaded as there are many photo opportunities, especially early in the morning and in late afternoon. Dikteon Andron, the famous cave where Zeus was born, is located here. There are also many small villages on the plateau which maintain their traditional color and character. Don't hesitate to come out of your car and walk along the little streets. You will be rewarded with nostalgic sights of windmills and authentic farm living. *More in bottom The ancient Olive Tree of Azorias - Kavousi village he legendary olive tree in Azorias is located 1 km south of the village Kavoussi and very close to the homonymous archaeological site of Azorias. This olive tree is a natural monument; it is the oldest olive tree in the world! Indeed, it is grafted on a rootstock of a wild olive tree, making it the oldest sample of grafting in the world. The tree is located on the site of Azorias, on the road leading to the settlement Avgos. It belonged in 2008 to George Grammatikakis and it is a tree of Olea europea, of the variety Mastoeidis, locally named "mouratoelia". SPINALONGA - PLAKA - ELOUNDA Spinalonga is a small island near Elounda in East Crete. It is also known as the Leper Island, as lepers from Crete and the rest of Greece were quarantined there until 1957. Spinalonga is the most visited archaeological site in Crete after Knossos. The strategic position of the rocky islet for the control and defense of Elounda harbour has marked it with a turbulent history of fierce battles and much human suffering. In the hills around Elounda there exists a mineral unique to Greece, called “akonopetra” or whetstone, a type of fine emery used to make whetstones and emery paper to hone tools. Once discovered by tourism, Elounda developed into a resort famous for its beautiful scenery and the luxury hotels which are still being built in the area. It is said to be the place with the most five-star hotels in Greece. all over the world. KROUSTAS Kroustas is a small village close to Agios Nikolaos on the island of Crete, Greece. Kroustas is known for its magnificent view of Mirabello Bay. It is also known for its traditional cuisine including myzithropites (special cheese pies), ftazymo bread and aiga vrasti (boiled goat). In the past people of Kroustas were shepherds and land workers. However, nowadays, following the booming of the tourist industry in east Crete, most of the village people work in the nearby resorts of Agios Nikolaos and Elounda. Characteristic of Kroustas is the smell of Raki distillery in October, the dry but cool summers, the dry and rocky landscape and the old ladies with the black scarfs and the wrinkled faces. What could you buy from Kroustas? Pure food like honey, almonds, walnuts, myzithra (soft sour cheese) and raki (locally distilled spirit). KROUSTAS FOREST HISTORICAL LANDSCAPE PARK One of the rare forests of eastern Crete was first systematically settled and intensively used by man about four thousand years ago. In the older Minoan Palace period (ca. The park offers marked paths through the forest along which many of the - unexcavated so far- Bronze Age ruins can be visited. KRITSA An alive village of Crete just at 9 km. from Agios Nikolaos. Kritsa first became inhabited in Minoan times, and its inhabitants are considered direct descendants of the ancient Cretan city Lato. During the Middle Ages and until the more recent times, Kritsa was the biggest village of Crete, with its 40 churches, extended on the entire south-west coast of Mirabello gulf until the plateau of Dikti. PANAGIA KERA 8km from Αghios Nikolaos and 1km from Kritsa, is found the tripartite Byzantine church of Panagia Kera. One of the most ancient churches in Crete, dedicated to Virgin Mary, Saint Anna and Saint Antonios. The church celebrates on August 15. KRITSA - KATHARO PLATEAU 16 km from Kritsa and 25km from Aghios Nikolaos, you will find the plateau of Katharo at 1200m on the foot of Lazaros. Katharo is fertile territory and holds shady Holm oaks, a wellknown target for Greeks and foreign climbers and nature lovers. Gorge of Kritsa The gorge of Kritsa begins at the north-eastern exit of the historical village of Kritsa and ends up at a flat area 2,5 kilometres to the north. Continuing in the watercourse from this point, one arrives at the entrance to the second section of the gorge, which is a lot more difficult. After a tiring climb, it leads to the foot of the Tsivi peak, over Katharo plateau. .................................................... PS: The municipality of Agios Nikolaos has the largest number of awarded beaches in Greece! HOUMERIAKO - FOURNI - KARIDI - MONASTERY ARETI - PLAKA - ELOUNDA Houmeriako is eastwards from Neapoli in the valley of Mirabello and is spread onto 3 small hills. In the old days, it constituted the seat of the Municipality. It is one of the oldest villages in the area. On this land many interesting churches are preserved: Agios Panteleimon, Agia Triada, Agios Georgios, Agios Kirikos and Agios Antonios. The "Romana Portella"(Roman Gate) that used to be the residence of some unknown sovereign, is an important monument. Nikithiano is a settlement next to Houmeriako, at 2 km from Neapolis. Small and picturesque, this settlement is known for its windmills; 15 windmills in a straight line. We reach the next village, Fourni, by going upward the slope. Fourni is constituted of 3 villages, Kastelli, Pano Horio and Kato Horio. The famous "School of Kerapolitissas" functioning in the past as the center for intellectuals. Hardly one kilometre from Kato Horio is another settlement, “Doriees” reporting to the Hellenic nation of Dories. In the next settlement of “Karidi” visitors could see the church of “Timios Stavros” (Holy Cross), the ruins of “Kardamoutsa” an old monastery as well as the Byzantine church of “Agii Apostoli” which has been qualified as archaeological because of its impressive murals. At the end of the way we discover the historical abbey of "Areti”, dedicated to Saint Trinity and situated in the middle of a stony and arid valley planted with some olive trees, cypresses and almond-trees. The Abbey was built during the Venetian period and has reached a big prosperity. It was the Seat of Bishops during the Ottoman domination. Today is completely restored and constitutes a unique attraction. VOULISMENI - FRARO – LATSIDA A very nice walk for any visitor is the distance between Neapolis and the settlements of Fraro, Voulismeni and Latsida. In the mid way between Voulismeni and Neapoli, the settlement of Fraro is planted all over with trees and vineyards. It was first appreciated in the 13th century by the Franciscan monks who were looking for a suitable place to built their Catholic church. Voulismeni maintained its noble character for centuries and is up until today considered as one of the most beautiful and tidy villages. At the west side of the village there is the church of Agia Ekaterini of the Venetian period with exceptional sculpted icons. Four hundred meters from the village at the foot of the mountain Kavalara you will find the Byzantine Church of the "Virgin Mary- the Vigliotissa", an old church destroyed by the Ottomans. Some ruins of the old cells are still saved and under the ruins there is a water spring. Latsida, a small traditional and picturesque village, is at one kilometer westwards from Voulismeni. VRAHASSI - SISSI - MILATOS Seven kilometres from Neapoli is the settlement of Vrahassi spread out on the rocky slopes of Anavlohos. Vrachasi is a village of a few hundred people and typical of many around, but it has some interesting features and the traditional Cretan architecture is well preserved here. The main square of Vrachasi sits close to the road and has an excellent view into the valley below, through which passes the main highway between Agios Nikolaos and Heraklion. Milatos Village is a picturesque community about a kilometer before the coastal Milatos settlement. Many Europeans have bought old village homes here, and refurbished them in the original style. Armed with a camera, a walk through the narrow village streets will provide you with many wonderful snap-shot memories of your holiday. Milatos Cave Lace up your sneakers and grab a flashlight and a bottle of water, and off you go to explore this very interesting site. Archaeological findings indicate that human activities in the cave date back to the Neolithic period. KOUROUNES - FRATHIA Kourounes (carrion crows) is in the middle region of northern Mirabello, in a distance of 4 km from Neapolis. Going north we reach the settlement of Frathia first and then the settlement of Perambela. Other smaller settlements next to Perambela, in a different and surprising landscape, are Petros, Peronides, Nofalias, Dilakkos, Adravatos, Romanos, Amigdalias, Souvlos and Finokalias. THE ANCIENT CITY OF DRIROS The first archaeological findings of this ancient city were discovered at the North-west side of Neapolis. Driros was completely unknown until 1855 when the plough of two farmers revealed the stone signboard with the oath of adolescents of Driros. This important finding was transported by the Turkish authorities to Heraklion and later to Istanbul. It’s an important archaeological site! AGOROI - KOUNALI - TSAMBI - AGIOS ANTONIOS - ANOGIA At the north side of Neapolis there is a road leading to small villages and settlements reaching down to the Cretan Sea. The visitor can access these villages from Milatos too. The first settlements are Kounali and Tsambi and then the small village of Agios Antonios. A bit further to the north we come upon the settlement of Anogia built on the slope of the mountain and not far from the sea. It’s a place known for its clean atmosphere. At the end of our way we face the splendid and unique view of the Cretan Sea and we can swim in the clear-crystal waters of this completely isolated beach. The Plane Tree of Krassi In the village square of Krasi, near Malia, there are three plane trees, trademarks of the village. The most important of them is the platan in the center of the square, which is considered to be the oldest and most majestic of the plane trees in Crete. The perimeter of the trunk is about 24 meters and its age is estimated at 2400 years, as it is said that each meter of the perimeter represents 100 years of growth. It is bulky, has huge branches and dense foliage covering the entire square. Next to the tree there are two springs that have crystal clear water throughout the year. The plane tree over its long history has witnessed countless events. It was the center of the social and intellectual life of the area. It is known that Nikos Kazantzakis, the most famous Greek writer, spent several summers of the decade with his friends in Krasi, the birthplace of his wife Galatia Alexiou. The olive tree of Azorias he legendary olive tree in Azorias is located 1km south of the village Kavoussi and very close to the homonymous archaeological site of Azorias. This olive tree is a natural monument; it is the oldest olive tree in the world! Indeed, it is grafted on a rootstock of a wild olive tree, making it the oldest sample of grafting in the world. The olive tree has been declared by the Association of Cretan Olive Municipalities as a natural monument because of the large size of its trunk and because of its location near three ancient settlements: Vrondas, Kastro and Azorias, where several artifacts related to olive oil have been uncovered. Dicteon cave (continue) *Reading most tourist guides about the area, you are sure to see it described as a plateau of 10,000 windmills. There are also some old black and white photos showing thousands of windmills scattered throughout the area. Unfortunately, most of these windmills, with crude pumping engines and iron towers of simple technology, no longer exist. Originally, the locally-constructed windmills made their appearance in the valley at the end of the 1800s. During the 1950s there were about 4,000 of the structures offering invaluable assistance to local farmers. Today, with more modern means of irrigation and power supply, that number has been greatly reduced, depriving Lassithi of its unique identity. windmills in Lassithi plateau.However, there is much renewed interest in the restoration of the windmills, which would bring back the picture of the Lassithi Plateau as it once was. Exiting the Lassithi Plateau and heading towards Heraklion, there's an area just before the village of Kera where 24 stone flour mills dating back to the 1800s once stood. They operated until the end of WWII, but today most are in various stages of ruin, with only three restored so far. Just beyond this area is the Kera Monastery, famous for its beautiful frescoes. Anyway, they're both worth a look-see if you have the time. DICTEON CAVE The Dikteon Cave (or Dikteon Andron or Dictaean Cave) is one of the most important and famous of the 3,000 caves in Crete and the 8,500 in Greece. It is in the impressive Dikteon Cave, rich in stalagmites and stalactites, that Zeus was born according to legend. This is why the Dikteon Cave was already famous in antiquity, dedicated to the worship of the greatest of the gods, as the many offerings found there indicate. In our days the Dikteon Cave continues to receive many visitors, no longer worshippers, of course, but travellers from all over the world. SUMMER IN CRETE: During the summer months there are a lot of festivals concerning local monasteries, ancient temples and local products. Snow falls in the mountain villages and the White Mountains are usually snow-covered from November to April. WINTER IN CRETE: Many visitors to Crete think that the island is only for summer holidays. But Crete is a perfect winter destination. By winter (November until late March). The island lies in the subtropical part of the Mediterranean and offers mild winters with many sunny days with pleasant temperatures. Mid October to Xmas is possibly the best time of year in the Southeast with consistently calm and sunny days. The locals are "more alive" than in the summer, since there is lots of work to do in the olive groves, fruit gardens and buildings. The sheep graze the fresh green from the mountains. When coming to meet Cretan friendship there's no better season than the winter. Touring around with a car, walking the country side, biking, bird watching or just strolling through the cities will offer you a relaxed holiday.   • Manolis is an excellent host. He goes above and beyond to take care of his guests. I stayed in two of his stays and he was kind enough to taxi me from one to the other. The 1870 traditional home was a taste of true village life. As a full time traveler I’m very fond of walking and always take busses (the bus stop is very close) but if you are disabled or have trouble walking this may not be right for you. I’ll be back though to wonderful Crete!

  • If you are fond of wood and stone houses, then you are going to fall in love with this mezzanine, so much better than the photos provided. It is absolutely beautiful, functioning and bright with incredible view to the mountains. It is lovely and according to tradition decorated and built. It has a nice little yard, full of herbs and a pomegranate tree. It is located 10-15 minutes’ walk from the village of Neapoli. The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful. The only sounds one can hear are the ones from cicadas, birds and sheep. A real relaxation paradise! The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you might need in order to prepare your meals. The bathroom is so wonderfully pretty. The internet connection is great and reliable. It has a lot of light fixtures too. Manolis and his family are very hospitable, helpful, friendly and welcoming. I have 100% enjoyed my stay there and I definitely recommend this house!

  • The house is wonderfully restored and well furnished! Perfect for 2 people. Strategically well located: away from tourism, in about 20-30 minutes you are on the most beautiful beaches around Agios Nikolaos. Manolis had all kinds of information on cultural and culinary questions ready for us. All in all a nice experience. We'll be back for sure.

  • The photos don’t lie. The Splash is a wonderful, spacious, stylish and comfortable “home”. There’s nothing that Marianthi hasn’t thought to include and the amenities provided far exceed expectation. The treats of fruit, juice and jams were very welcome. The apartment is brilliantly located for a dip in the sea, a evening walk or just enjoy a drink on the balcony. Easy access to restaurants, the harbour and town centre. Parking was easy (February) and Marianthi and Thodoris are delightful and hospitable hosts. This one sets the benchmark so high it’s a little hard to follow.

I arrived in a fluster needing some help, and Marianthi was kind enough to come and get me. I was welcomed and introduced to the property like an old friend. The supermarket is nearby, and Marianthi suggested excellent local tavernas. I can't recommend this property enough.

  • I have stayed on over 20 airbnbs and this was hands down the BEST airbnb in which I've ever stayed! I looked just like the pictures. The water is just across the street. A charming neighborhood. Mari and her husband are great and provided recommendations. Other airbnb hosts could take a class from them. I am a solo traveler and the space and location were perfect.   • Marianthi’s place has a fresh airy charm to it enhanced by the 2 sets of double doors opening on to the terrace overlooking the bay where you can watch the swimmers even in mid November. Her hospitality includes all you need for a simple breakfast including coffee, tea, bread, homemade jam and fruit. (There’s a supermarket nearby but so many great restaurants to choose from...)   • My husband and I stayed at An Eden for Two for five nights at the beginning of September. The apartment was perfect for us. We especially enjoyed breakfast in the garden area overlooking the beautiful sea and breezy evenings on the patio with a glass of wine (Marianthi left us a bottle, among other goodies) looking at the stars. Also, we happened to have a couple of travel hammocks with us, so we put one up on an adjacent tree and we were both able to enjoy a few wonderful naps in the garden so it was the perfect Eden for us!

  • We have stayed in a number of places in Crete, and this was the most artfully decorated with really mesmerising views. The apartment is easy to find (instructions provided) and very comfortable, with all required amenities and a great shower. Efi and her family are really hospitable hosts- offering extra touches such as wine, cake and even hand-painted souvenirs. In terms of location, there are a number of consistently delicious restaurants around 8min drive from the apartment, near the waterfront, from traditional tavernas to something a little bit more modern. We had a really relaxing time and will look back fondly on our memories here... again, the view is unparalleled! If you are looking for somewhere to take it easy and you want to be away from the busy resorts, this is the place to be! Many thanks for our stay.

  • This apartment is a little gem! It's a great size for either using as a base to travel the island or to just stay at the property relaxing around the pool. Both inside the apartment and around the property is beautifully decorated with little touches created by Efi that makes the place so special. We were made to feel so welcome and Efi and her sons were wonderful hosts - nothing is too much trouble. Gifts of homemade biscuits and fresh grapes were lovely and the late check out was very much appreciated. There are huge ceiling fans which keep the place cool - and air con too. The walk to Agios Nickolaos is quite a long one (not recommended in the heat of the day!) but taxi's are easy to book and cost about 8 euro's each way. Hiring a car is recommended if you want some independence. Please expect some "house rules" but they are only obvious housekeeping requests e.g. shower before swimming (the pool is especially clean so this makes sense), don't put air con on with all the windows open.

  • We had a lovely and relaxing stay at Bella Vista apartments. The room was tastefully decorated and had all the amenities we needed as well as being spotlessly clean. We loved our terrace and enjoyed evening drinks most nights looking out over the fantastic view of the sea and towards Agios Nikolaos. The outside space is perfect for relaxing in the sun, with a nice pool, sun loungers and an amazing view. Most of all, we're very grateful for Efi's hospitality. She provided us with help whenever we needed it, Cretan wine, some very tasty homemade cake and was even kind enough to give us a lift to the beach one morning. We will very much miss Bella Vista and the cute cats and hope to visit again one day! Thank you Chris and Efi :)

  • It's our fifth time on Crete, we come to this separate heavenly reality for 6 years already, and every time it's a blessing in every way, but with Manolis and Maria's place it's something very special indeed. It is the first time we stayed so close to a fabulous beach (and we blissfully swam there at the end of December), enjoyed the views, the aromas, and the sounds of the sea just in two steps distance, had all the amenities in the same two steps, and the place itself was so immaculate you wouldn't believe it. It can touch all the way to the heart, all those things our hosts took care of so that not only we had everything that is essential for comfort, but also those that simply make you smile and feel loved, from the food in the fridge and in the cupboards enough to sustain not too gluttonous a couple for a few days, the snorkeling masks in the wardrobe, the delicious Korres shampoos and sublty sented towels in the bathroom, to sensible journals and books on the shelf, piles of extra pillows, immaculate linen, two ways to warm up the place (just in case), and tasteful elegant ambience all around. Manolis and Maria doted on us as best friends might do sometimes, they shared Christmas sweets with us and tons of helpful tips on what to do around the Eastern Crete. Even though we came prepared for the exploration of this region of the island, we found their advices helpful and giuding. We caught a bit of iffy weather this time, but it didn't in any way spoil our stay, and I giuess we wouldn't trade our walks under various kind of rains-and-rainbows for anything, as we had a fantastic chance to see Ag. Nikolaos and the environs in all sorts of astounding light and colour. We adoringly recommend Manolis and Maria and will come back to The Dream Town again.

  • My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon and spent about a week at Manolis's place which was easy to find from the bus station. We were met with some local tips from Manolis and a bottle of wine to celebrate our marriage. The space was perfect for two and we used the balcony daily for breakfasts overlooking the sea. It is self contained, a true home from home and has everything guest's need to enjoy a self catering holiday. It is located just 2 minutes walk from the center of Kritsa where there are many shops and Taverna's. The area is good for walking, beaches and exploring. Unfortunately the house is not suitable for disabled people.
    Christina's House can accommodate up to 4 guest's plus 1 infant up to 2 years of age who can sleep in the travel cot provided. Kritsa is located just 9kms from the town of Aghios Nikolaos and the surrounding beaches. Although we have a 2 night minimum stay, if you really want to explore this area of Crete, we recommend that you consider a stay of 3 nights or more. The local area has many places to visit and explore including the Ancient Town of Lato 4 km outside of Kritsa and Panagia Kera Church with the famous 14th century paintings just 1 km from the village. There is also the beautiful Plateau of Kathereo completely unspoiled by tourism 16 kms up in the mountains and the Gorge of Kritsa just a short 10 minute walk from the house. You can also enjoy beautiful walks through the olive groves and countryside around Kritsa. Kritsa is only 9 kms from Aghios Nikolaos and the sea where there are many beautiful beaches to enjoy and also only 24kms from Spinalonga Island, the famous former leper island where if you wish to visit boats are available from Aghios Nikolaos, Elounda or Plaka. The house is finished to a very high standard whilst retaining original features. We have furnished the house with personal items that give our guest's the feeling of being at home which we believe is important. Many of our guest's have commented on the relaxed feel the house provides. The roof terrace is ideal for enjoying meals and relaxing whilst looking over olive groves and mountains and is planted out with a variety of Mediterranean plants for privacy. The house has two bedrooms, one double and one twin bedded room. There is also a travel cot suitable for babies and infants up to 2 years of age. For parties of two people who require the twin bedded room rather than the double or would prefer both bedrooms, please let us know in advance so the required bedrooms can be prepared before your arrival. The house is available all year round and is heated via the air conditioning units in the living room and bedrooms with an electric panel radiator in the bathroom. There is also a wood burning stove in the living room for those cooler nights. If required, we will light it for guests so the house is warm on their return from a day out exploring. A small charge will be made for logs as we have to buy our wood. There are books to read, guide books and board games for both adults and children and we have provided suggestions of places to visit during your stay. The house has free wi-fi connection and air conditioning. Toilet rolls, kitchen rolls, paper napkins, washing powder and washing up liquid are also provided. We also supply free tea, coffee, milk, jams, honey, butter and bread for your breakfast on the first morning. There is also a free bottle of water for when you arrive. We are happy to do any food shopping for you before your arrival and will ask you to message us with a list and you can pay us upon arrival. This can be helpful if you are arriving late in the evening or on a Saturday as many supermarkets still remain closed on a Sunday. In addition to the travel cot, we also have two stair gates, a high chair and a booster seat that both fit onto a normal dining chair for younger Children. There is a parking space outside the property suitable for a small to medium size car, any bigger vehicles are able to park approximately 100 meters up the road for free. All guest's are able to unload luggage and shopping outside the house. All our neighbours are Greek and very friendly so you will be able to experience living in a traditional Greek village among the Greek people. Apart from the various shops in the village, local merchants visit the village daily selling fresh fish, fruit and vegetables. You will soon know which ones sell the best by observing the ones that our neighbours buy from. Kritsa also has many beautiful shops selling quality local product's including the award winning Kritsa Olive Oil, fashion, ceramics, jewellery, glassware (made in the village) and leather goods. For bookings of a week towels will be changed half way through your stay. For bookings of a week or more, bed linen and towels will be changed half way through your stay and the house will be cleaned. We are here as hosts to make sure that our guest's enjoy their stay and we will do our best to assist you in anyway we can. We live next door so are available most times during the day and evening. Because of this late arrivals and early departures are not a problem for us.
    The House is located at the end of an alleyway approximately 10 meters off the road to Kroustas. All our neighbours are Greek and very friendly and live a very simple life tending to their land during the mornings and then sitting outside relaxing in the afternoons and into the evening. From the house you are able to explore the rest of this lovely quaint village.

  • My wife and I stayed at Christine's place for 4 nights and enjoyed our stay there very much. Christine and her husband Alan were very attentive hosts. They met us at check in and gave us a tour of the house, and supplied some basic food items as we were arriving late in the evening (yogurt, eggs, milk, bread, etc). They also made themselves available for any questions we had, and provided tips about the area each day we were there. The house is very comfortable, with a large kitchen, sitting room, and two bedrooms. The village has much to offer including shops, restaurants, and beautiful views - all within short walking distance. The drive to Ag Nik was quick and easy, and we were able to enjoy the shops and restaurants there as well. There are several beaches in the area, and if you are willing to drive an hour or so, you can travel to the south of the island and enjoy the small towns and beaches there. On our last day, Christine and Alan were able to allow us to check out an hour later (12pm), so that we could go to the beach in the morning and shower and change afterward. Based on the listing description, we had hoped to extend the check out time further, but it was not possible that day. However, they did their best to accommodate our needs. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and can recommend this place wholeheartedly to anyone traveling to Crete!

  • We recommend this house without any hesitation. The Nest is a little paradise. The comfortable bed, the proximity (walk) of a small pebble beach, the details of the decoration, the many available amenities (spices, oil, coffee and even a device to froth milk ...) make this home a welcoming and pleasant place. They even left us milk, fruit, bread and delicious homemade jams for breakfast. We had a friendly and efficient communication with the hosts. We did not meet Marianthi but we were warmly welcomed by her partner Thodoris, who made good recommendations for the area and even sought information for us about the opening hours of places as we were out of season. A briefcase of information full of ideas of visits and restaurants is also at our disposal.

Ideal place for a vacation! Kitchen is fully equipped. She was lovely and even left small groceries for us to start our first day! our little deck was perfect and overlooked the beautiful garden both sides. We sat outside in the sun there and had breakfast and sat some more in the evenings over dinner or just a glass of wine. The sea is right as you walk out of the complex and the first walking distance beach is 5 min away! A great beach is at 10 minutes drive! town center with shops and restaurants is 10 min drive too! If you are a beach and sea lover then this is the perfect location. The restaurants and bars are within walking distance offering excellent local cuisine at reasonable prices. This is one of the quieter locations within Crete but Voulisma beach is very popular and busy during the day but you can always find a quieter spot near Anemone. The location is excellent, near the sea (20m), peaceful, and the pool with the jacuzzi with incredible view of whole gulf of Mirabella. This is simply the perfect accommodation for couples and families. The beds are very good and comfortable. We would recommend for every travelers looking for a home far away from home. We have enjoyed the bar by the pool, they have served very tasty homemade greek food and also have options for children taste.     Our apartment is very close to the beach and many nice restaurants and cafes, yet very quiet. It offers great views to the sea and the mountains, all year round. The center and the famous Lake of Agios Nikolaos are just within a 2 minutes walk. The rooms are ideal for one couple or a family with 1-2 young kids.
    Our apartment is on the 1st & 2nd floor of a 6 apartment building. On the 1st floor there are 2 bedrooms (1 of which are for use by our visitors), 1 room with sofa bed and small kitchen and a bathroom (both to be used by our visitors). There is also a home office, which can be used upon request. The room with the sofa) has a small kitchenette, equiped with microwave oven, kettle and refrigerator, ideal for preparing breakfast and light meals. The sofa is much bigger than a single bed and is suitable for 2 young children or for one adult or teenager. An air bed can also be added to this room, upon request. All rooms have access to balconies. The balcony of the room with the 2 beds has a great view of the nearby (less than 100m) Kitroplatia beach and the Gulf of Mirabello. The balcony of the room with 1 sofa & kitchenette overlooks our yard with jasmine, lemon tree and other flowers & trees. On the 2nd floor there is the living & dining rooms, the main kitchen, a W.C. with shower (to be used by us) and a spacious veranda with a BBQ and outdoor dining & sitting area.
    Kitroplatia Beach is in a distance of less than 100m! It has been awarded a "Blue Flag" for its clean waters and facilities. There are very good restaurants and cafes around the beach. A bank is also located nearby. The center of the town is less than 500m away. So are the Lake, the port and the marina of Agios Nikolaos. There are plenty of shops within walking distance. Most of them are open long hours in summertime (usually 9am - 10 or even 11pm). In winter time (between November & March), there are still a lot of shops open, since the permanent inhabitants of the Municipality of Agios Nikolaos are approximately 28.000 people (in summer the population doubles!).

  • It is no exaggeration to say that Marianthi's house is by far the best Airbnb to live in. The house is very artistically furnished, from impeccable furnishings to furnishing details. The location of the house is very quiet, facing the sea, and it is very pleasant to be bathed by the Aegean sun on the balcony in the morning! The only regret is that the schedule is a bit tight, and it would be more perfect to stay for a few more nights.   • The flat surpassed our expectations by far. From the master bedroom, you can see the ocean without leaving your bed. Amazing! It's all newly renovated, very clean, beautifully decorated and I imagine in warmer months it must be super relaxing to lie in the hammock on the front terrace and watch the waves coming in. Marianthi is a very attentive host who responded very quickly to any question we had during our stay and her husband Thodoris met us at the entrance to make sure we found the property when we first arrived at night. If your car navigation can't handle the address either, the coordinates in Marianthi's description work a treat on Google maps. We had a wonderful holiday and will surely be back.

  • I don’t think we have stayed anywhere before that the host has been so thoughtful with little touches to welcome us, Hilary provided a bottle of wine, fresh strawberries and cakes and snacks. Everything you need is in Megaron cottage and it is in a convenient and quiet part if Kritsa, a short walk through fascinating Greek alleyways to the Church and tavernas. Parking was close by and views from roof terrace were great. Great value for money, we will be recommending Megaron cottage to our friends

  • A lovely authentic village home.Must be able to climb steep stairs, as spiral staircase to roof terrace with great views (and a steep climb down to shower room too). A comfortable large bed with A/C if needed , also great! The hot plate and microwave were fine for breakfast and snacks and there is an upstairs cooker for outside cooking in summer.Anyway plenty of great tavernas in village and surrounding area so ate out daily .Delicious food and good value! Hilary was a great host and gave us loads of info about the area. House was great as well: traditional Greek house in really good order! Best feature was definitely the spiral staircase leading to the roof, where you can eat breakfast in the morning and have bbqs in the evening. Overall great house, and v good value.

  • Congratulations to Manolis and Maria for the cleanliness and condition of their apartment. Impeccable! The accommodation is of a good standard and corresponds perfectly to the description of the ad. View of a beautiful bay. Swimming at 50 m (just a road to cross). Crystal clear and clean sea (but the beaches seem rather small in Crete). The terrace is nice: sunny until 10-11h and then go in the shade (which is nice in summer ...). We slept well and did not need to turn on the air conditioning. The road is a little noisy, but it is quite normal at this time (high season). The double glazing is very efficient and no noise when the glass doors are closed (at night because the day is not very inconvenient). Possibility to walk to the city center (about 10 minutes on a nice walk by the sea). Many shops nearby. Atmosphere of holidays. Many good tips given by Manolis. We recommend visiting the interior of the island: the roads are a bit difficult, because winding, but the villages are very beautiful. It would be a shame not to see that. Good internet connection. Our kids have been enjoying Netflix and Prime Video!

  • We had a wonderful holiday. Pure relaxation. We felt like in paradise. The view and the pool are amazing. Efi and her family are very warmhearted. Always in a good mood. Never was anything too much for them. There are a lot of cats running around. But the cats are well educated. The cats do not beg for food or go in the apartment. Everything is designed with so much love. Every day you discover something new. The kitchen is small but it is all there to prepare nice meals. You can make nice food with a wonderful view. Morning fruit with Greek yogurt or bread with cheese and egg with fresh coffee. For lunch eat fresh watermelon or ice cream or drink coke with ice cubes by the pool. In the evening make salad with bread and olive oil or eat spaghetti with shrimp or have barbecue. I love that dishes were available as well as basics like salt and sugar and spices at the barbecue. A supermarket called Lidl and a bakery can be reached by car. As a day trip we recommend the Richtis gorge. Super nice hike to a waterfall and beach. The best way to start from 8 to 8:30 clock from the accommodation, then not many people are traveling. We hope to come back.

In the immediate vicinity of shops and restaurants, it is easy to park in the street at the bottom of the building. Irini is very responsive to email exchanges and her hospitality is perfect; when we arrived she had filled the fridge with milk, butter, jam, juice and everything needed for breakfast.   • This apartment is in a excellent location in Agios Nikolaos. Minutes walk into the centre of the town, with it's many shops and restaurants. I felt at home the moment I stepped into the apartment, and onto the balcony. I would never tire of the view, whether to wake up to or have a drink in the evening. If you can get up, or stay up for sunrise, this is an added bonus! The apartment has everything that guests need for a comfortable stay, Kitchen is well equipped for cooking meals and the beds are comfortable. Very tastefully decorated throughout. Although on the main street into the town, there was no issue with traffic noises. Irini and Socrates were lovely hosts.   • My partner and I had a one week stay in December - the rainy weather meant we got to spend a lot of time in the apartment and we enjoyed its amenities - a full kitchen for cooked meals, a smart TV to watch our Greek theater documentaries and the occasional Neflix movie, a full sized work desk - and the wonderful view of the sea. It's great location also meant that for whatever short stints of clear weather we could easily enjoy a pleasant walk next to the coast or reach convenience locations such as a supermarket or a good place to eat. Our stay was calm and restful and we owe a lot of that to the comfort of this apartment, footsteps from the beach.

  • Absolutely perfect. The best air bnb of 8 places stayed during our month traveling in Crete. Loved AgiosNikoloas as well. This apt is just on the edge of the Harbour and restaurants area, but just across the street from a great soft sand beach. The apt is perfectly outfitted with everything you could possibly think of and more. We stayed a week and really liked the second bedroom for luggage etc. the hosts are very hospitable and stocked the fridge for our arrival. Fruit, bread, milk, yogurt, water etc. various coffees and tea choices as well. VERY roomy. Much larger than the pictures show. Balcony is large with a great view that we enjoyed every morning and evening. The short walk to the Harbour is along a lovely seaside promenade. Over all 100/100 score in every category!

  • Giorgos & Athinas Windmill is truely a unique location! We enjoyed our stay very much. You will find everything you need. The communication worked very good and their friend who hosted us was super friendly. The windmill is definitely for travelers who seek a little adventure rather than a 5 star hotel room. Some things are kind of rustic but that’s totally fine, if you have read the description carefully and know what to expect. The nearby national road can get a bit louder during the day but is mostly quiet at the evening and night. Overall we recommend coming here!

  • The earth house in the windmill was a magical experience for our perfect Cretan holidays. We loved waking up to the sun rising in the olive valley below us, having the breakfast overlooking everything was my favorite part of every morning.   • Manolis is a great host, and Athina Villas are a delightful place to stay. The location is perfect for enjoying Plaka's charm, the units are perfectly appointed for a quick stay such as our 3 night stay, and I'm sure just as good for a longer stay too. There was a small confusion about our party, and for the first night Manolis went out of his way to ensure we had enough beds in our unit for the initial night. Then he was able to switch us to a larger unit more appropriate for our party for the remaining nights, which we really appreciated. Manolis obviously really cares about his guests and is very approachable and friendly. We were so busy with our friends that we didn't get a chance to talk to Manolis more, which I think is a shame!     The small property VATHI BAY is situated in an absolutely quiet area off-beat from any touristic hotspots, approx. 8km east of the picturesque small city Agios Nikolaos, near Kalo Chorio (Istron) on the northern coast of Crete. The 3 terraced houses and 1 holiday apartment are in a beautiful location on a high plateau above the Bay of Mirabello on a shared, enclosed nature property with Mediterranean plants. 2 of the terraced houses and the holiday apartment can be booked through us while the third terraced house is occasionally occupied by the landlord couple. The extensive garden property ensures an undisturbed stay, even outside the holiday houses. From the various terraces you can enjoy the wide view across the sea and the coastline with mountains (up to 1200m high) in eastern direction. The neat, two-storey corner terraced house is practically furnished and stretches across 3 levels. The comfortable living/dining room with the adjoining kitchenette is on the slightly elevated ground floor. 5 steps down from the living room are the guest toilet and one bedroom with direct access to the rear part of the property. Approx. 7 steps above the living room is the second bedroom with direct access to a small balcony providing a wonderful view across the garden with lush vegetation and the sea. Approx. 4 steps up from the second bedroom are the shared bathroom and the third bedroom with a balcony where you have a side garden view. A small wooden staircase leads from the top level to the roof top terrace which is the centrepiece of the terraced house. From the terrace you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view across the Bay of Mirabello, the surrounding coastline and the mountains.     Τα ΚΤΕΛ βρίσκονται 10' απ' το κατάλυμα(στάση ΚΤΕΛ υπάρχει στα 50μ απ το κατάλυμα) όσον αφορά τις μετακινήσεις για άλλες πόλεις και χωριά. Ταξί μπορείτε να βρείτε πολύ εύκολα αλλά και αστικά λεωφορεία κατα τη διάρκεια όλης της ημέρας μέχρι κ τις 11 το βράδυ τους καλοκαιρινούς μήνες. Πάρκινγκ στη γειτονιά υπάρχει πάντα. Αν κι έχει ιδιωτικό το κατάλυμα.

  • Apartment well located, right next to the center and the beach. Clean and spacious. Private parking place. Commetce a few steps. The host received us very well with a nice bottle of wine and fruit. Nice stay in this apartment, I recommend!

  • Great one bedroom apartment with its own off street parking. The bedroom was big and ample and the bed very comfortable. The lounge was also very comfortable to sit or lie on to watch tv or just chill out. Air conditioner and hot water worked perfectly. Kitchen had everything you needed. The bathroom was brilliant and roomy with a big bathtub. The front verandah was convenient and had an outdoor setting and plenty of room to place a clothes airer for drying clothes. A washing machine is located in the bathroom and was very handy and easy to use. The apartment is ground floor so easy access for the occupants. Quiet neighborhood is a plus. AB supermarket is less than 50 meters away to do all your groceries, food, fruit, drinks etc...Three coffee shops less than 50 meters away and will deliver to you which was great first thing in the morning. Local gym at the top of the street which is well stocked with weights and cardio and includes indoor rock climbing. Short walk into town so no need to drive into town square. We would highly recommended the apartment when visiting Agios Nicholaos. Lastly George (the host) was extremely helpful and an absolute gentleman. He had fresh fruit, cold water, coffee, coffee machine, tea, jams etc in the kitchen ready on our arrival. Provided local tips and knowledge. We stayed one week. Wished we stayed longer. Thanks George for hosting us. Great job and would definitely come back!!!
