Located in the tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this apartment is ideally located for walkers and cyclists. Close to the Pennine Way, Malham's spectacular cove and Yorkshire's Three Peaks, it is a comfortable and cosy base from which to explore this stunning area
Airton is a peaceful village set in the heart of Malhamdale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. There is a popular village store/farm shop and cafe which sells a good selection of basic provisions and local produce. Many of our guests have commented favourably on it. A public footpath leads through the mill's wetland garden and the Pennine Way, 100m walk from the apartment, can be seen from the main rooms. There is a never-ending variety of walks through the natural beauty of 'Calendar Girls' countryside. The area is popular with cyclists, walkers, horse-riders and climbers. You can ramble along the riverside to Malham's stunning cove, limestone pavement and tranquil tarn. During the summer months, there are numerous rural shows and music and art festivals. Museums, steam trains, ice-cream farm, falconry centre - the variety of activities ensures there will never be a dull moment, whatever the weather.
  • Jesca's home was beautiful and comfortable. The whole family enjoyed the scenic hiking trails just outside the home, the views from the back windows, the small quiet town, the country drive getting there, and the great Farm House grocery store and tea room. This is a stop I recommend if you are looking for special! Enjoyed our stay!!

  • Jesca’s place was perfect for our needs, spotless, well equipped, and in a beautiful location. Jesca was very easy to communicate with, our booking was at short notice, however the booking was completed promptly without fuss. Jesca’s customer standards are high. She informed me of a very minor omission from the advertised facilities. I would not have noticed and had I done so certainly not complained, such was my very favourable impression of her property. Nonetheless, without my bidding Jesca gave me a rebate to compensate my ‘inconvenience’. Quality service, highly recommended.

  • This place is a hidden gem. It has everything you need and is situated wonderfully in the Yorkshire Dales. Worth a visit to Malham Cove when staying. The place is well equipped with everything you should need. Spacious enough for 4 people. The beds were lovely and comfy. A tidy, clean and every amenity you need place. Jesca had milk for our arrival which was brilliant. Shampoo and shower gel is also provided. The place has dvds, board games and books to keep you busy. The neighbours are all so friendly and engaging. It’s a lovely community. Thanks for a wonderful stay!

    Ellie2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from a very relaxing 3 day stay at Jesca’s lovely apartment. It has everything you would need and in a great location. We didn’t want to leave!

  • The Nook is an excellent base from which to explore Settle and beyond! The space is clean and comfortable, as well as being well equipped. The log burner was a bonus for keeping warm on an evening.

    Michael2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is beautiful, in a great central location. Finding parking nearby was not an issue, as the roads are narrow and steep. We spent 3 nights here, it was very cold. But the cottage is so cosy with the log burner on. We would definitely return to the nook.

    Lisa2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely 3 nights in the cottage. It is a good size for a couple, and nice and comfortable. The wood burner gets it warm nice and quickly too. It is on a very narrow street as in the description, but parking was never a problem. Settle was a perfect base for exploring the Dales too.

    Elaine2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy, warm and nicely put together. Super location for the town centre and local walks.

    Cath2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy nook. Great location, great walks from the doorstep with amazing scenery and walking distance to all amenities. Thanks for a great stay.

    Jo2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • The Nook is a stylish, well placed cottage with everything you could possible need to enjoy Settle. If you don’t book this place, you’re missing out on the best cottage for two that allows pets in Settle. On street free parking just minutes from the cottage and it’s possible to unload outside too. I cant big this place up enough. Fantastic in all aspects but the wood burner made it extra special.

    Gareth2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful little cottage perfectly situated to explore the Yorkshire Dales, for us it was extremely central for all our activities. Easy check in, great communication with Host. Very cosy home with everything you could possibly need. Great little touches with leaflets for all the local attractions, books to read, lovely dvd collection, monopoly and even a jigsaw! Great set up in the kitchen with everything you could imagine you would need as well as a lovely welcome basket with wine!!! Very comfortable beds, two decent sized bedrooms with kingsized beds. Would reccomend and would love to stay again!

    Rach2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Frankly there's little I can say about Sandra's place that hasn't already been said. It's spacious, warm, well provisioned - in a word, perfect. Sandra was great to communicate with and has thought of everything you might need to have a great time. The house is gorgeous, wonderful to relax in after a day on the hills or in the Dales. It's in a quiet street, so very peaceful, and in one of the most beautiful places in the world (I may be biased here but why not visit and see?) I would certainly stay here again and heartily recommend it. Thanks!

    Tracy2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • Sandra’s place is perfect for a weeks stay walking in the dales. Great location and lovely homely touches! Would definitely return.

    Kate2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • If anything it’s nicer than described in the listing. We loved the decor and furnishings. The welcome basket was a very nice touch and appreciated after a long drive. This is a perfect base for exploring the Yorkshire and Lancashire Dales. We’d recommend it and hope to stay again soon.

    Maria2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • The house of Sandra is equipped with everything needed for a relaxing stay. It was super clean and decorated with love! We were excited! Only the road was an impertinence. ... (but that's not Sandra's fault !!!)

    Gabriele2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • Brook Cottage is a lovely cosy cottage in a great location. The “welcome hamper” was a lovely touch. The cottage is clean and tidy and the kitchen is well stocked. The train station is nearby, caught the train to Leeds. It’s a great base for visiting the Dales. Hope to be back next year to do more walking.

Both guest bedrooms are clean and comfortable. 1 has an ensuite shower room and there is a family bathroom with shower. Both the kitchen and bathrooms are new (June 2017).
Welcome to our comfortable, ground floor apartment in the Grade II listed former Airton mill. Airton is a small village in the Yorkshire Dales 9 miles NW of Skipton (The Gateway to the Dales). The apartment has just finished a major conversion (June 2017) which includes a new kitchen, ensuite shower room and family bathroom and new heating throughout. The mill has communal gardens, a BBQ area and access to 'Frank's Land' which is a pretty wildflower meadow alongside the river. The location is gorgeous and is definitely the best place to be on a sunny day. In summer the river is ideal for young children to play in (supervised of course) and it even has its own 'beach' on the other side of it. It's also ideal for the less energetic to relax and watch all the wildlife on the river and in the field opposite. For the more energetic there are numerous breathtaking walks and bike rides right from the door step. The Pennine Way actually crosses along the other side of the river. Some of the Dales most popular sites like Malham Cove, Malham Tarn, Janet's Foss and Gordale Scar are all within walking distance (3 miles). The nearest shop is the excellent farm shop and tea room which is a 5/10 minute walk. There is a good pub 2 miles away in Kirby Malham.
  • What a lovely place to stay. The river running by the front door was crystal clear and babbling. Very clean, comfortable and well equipped for our stay. A lovely surprise to find a Christmas bottle of Prosecco and biscuit box to greet us. We'll definitely try and book again when we next come to visit our Yorkshire based relatives.

  • A spacious, sparkling clean apartment in a great location! Sarah is a great host and she had thought of lots of extras to leave that are really handy! There was also a really good collection of games and toys for rainy days. The bathrooms and kitchen were modern and in good working order and there was plenty of space throughout the apartment. Thank you for a lovely holiday! 😊

  • A Gem of a Place The apartment provided us with an exceptional base for our walking weekend. It’s in an wonder position and Sarah the host provided superb information and recommendations. My whole family were delighted with it and we had a wonderful time.

  • Sarah's appartment is a great place to stay. It has everything you need for a stay in the Yorkshire Sales. The location itself is beautiful and there are many great hikes within close proximity. Sarah responds quickly and provides accurate information.

  • Beautiful location, so many great walks and sights within a reasonable distance. Sarah is a great host too.

    Charles2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic place, with very thoughtful touches. A lot of toys for children (though that was reducing space for own clothes in the one bedroom). However the flat it spacious and offers a great base for exploring parts of the Yorkshire Dales. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I can highly recommend it. Sarah was very helpful when we realised that we’ve left something behind and acted as communicator between us and the new guests. Thank you so much.

  • Sarah's place is an ideal location to explore the surrounding area. There's something for people of all ages.

  • Very lovely stay, everything was perfect from start to finish. Easy self check in which was very good. Lovely little space. Very comfy bed. Modern clean bathroom. Tea/coffee amenities and a little fridge was a good extra touch. Local information given. Free wifi which we was very appreciated due to us both not having any signal. Always fast communication with the hosts. We would definitely return if we’re ever in the area again. Thank you very much for having us.

  • Perfectly located in the heart of Settle town centre, ideal for exploring Malham, Skipton, Ingleton and many more locations. The apartment is beautiful, really comfortable and luxuriously finished. I have high standards and this ticked all the boxes. I planned this trip with a view to proposing to my girlfriend and it was perfect for this occasion. The best Airbnb I have stayed in.

  • Superb location right in the centre of Settle, 5 minutes walk from the station & Booths (main supermarket). Tourist Info centre right underneath, first rate coffee shops, pubs & outdoor shop just seconds away. Spotlessly clean & stylishly decorated. But not suitable for anyone unable to cope with stairs.

  • Stylish apartment with a fantastic location in the heart of Settle. A place for muddy boots would be useful in this super clean Airbnb but otherwise, all amenities were excellent. Be careful of the sharp edged cooker hood if you’re tall however! Otherwise would consider booking again if in the area.

Perfect for two people but with room for one more, The Hayloft is a newly renovated, two bedroom apartment on the upper level of a historic, former agricultural building. The property benefits from free, private, garage parking in the centre of town. Original beams combine with stylish decor to create a space with real character. It enjoys an enclosed, shared cottage garden. Hayloft is the perfect base from which to explore the outstanding Yorkshire countryside or walk the Three Peaks.
The Hayloft forms part of a detached converted barn, uniquely located, for a former agricultural/stable building, in the centre of Settle. Located at first floor level this two bedroom apartment has been recently renovated. Access is directly up a short flight of stone steps into the open plan kitchen living room. IMPORTANT: Please review our House Rules before making a booking. LIVING AREA: A large multi-paned sliding sash window which overlooks the courtyard garden at the rear of the property allows light to flood in. With central heating plus a woodburner-style electric fire, modern sofa, coffee table, large rug and HD smart TV, you have all you need for a cosy night in. The large, original, exposed beams of the barn run straight through this space and the solid oak flooring throughout and modern decor combine to add real character. KITCHEN AREA: A new, fully-fitted kitchen has all the amenities you will need for a short stay. Charcoal painted units with hand-cast rough iron handles are finished with solid oak worktops and upstand. Shelves replace wall cupboards to enhance the open feel of the apartment, providing storage for quality pots, pans, and crockery etc. Another multi-paned window in the kitchen gives a view over the cobbled courtyard. The kitchen has a fan oven, double ceramic hob, microwave, toaster, and kettle. DOUBLE BEDROOM: Located at the rear of the property, another large window gives this room a light and airy feel. The blackout roller blind and plush carpet ensure cosiness at night-time. There is a double bed with a comfy mattress and quality linen. An open style wardrobe gives you plenty of space for hanging clothes, and a large shelf and two beside tables with dimmable lamps complete the room. SINGLE BEDROOM: This smaller room is located at the front of the property and enjoys lots of light in the morning. A day bed topped with a quality, single-sized mattress and pillows provides a relaxing place to sit or sleep comfortably. This room also has a cupboard in it which houses the modern-combi boiler and a few other household essentials such as the ironing board and iron. SHOWER ROOM: Comprising modern tiled shower cubicle with electric shower, basin with storage, radiator, toilet and extractor fan. OUTSIDE: The property has direct access to a spacious, L-shaped, enclosed garden area, shared with the adjoining apartment. Mainly gravelled and paved in Yorkshire stone flags, this space catches the afternoon sunshine. GARAGE PARKING AND BIKE STORAGE: The apartment sits on top of a large garage which is accessed from the front of the property through the double barn doors. Please note that the space is only really suitable for small to medium sized cars. Alternative parking is available within a minutes walk.
The Hayloft lies very close to the centre of Settle, surrounded by an eclectic mix of houses and cottages. It is set back from the road with a cobbled courtyard at the front. It enjoys distant views across the countryside and over some historic Settle buildings at the rear. The garden attracts many birds and their birdsong is wonderfully relaxing on a sunny day. The property is well located allowing you to explore the Yorkshire Dales limestone countryside directly from the front door. It is also within minutes walk to the town centre and its many pubs, shops, restaurants and cafés. There is a market in the town every Tuesday. Booths supermarket is a 5 minute walk away. The property is perfect for people looking for a base from which to explore the countryside whilst enjoying the amenities that the town has to offer.
  • The directions from the owners led us exactly to the barn. Lovely stylish space, very comfortable bed with plenty of fresh towels. The little electric fire made the barn so cosy at night time when cuddling up on the sofa. The location is right in town with local bars and shops just a few minutes walk away. Would highly recommend, owners gave local tips about where to eat amongst other things. Great communication. Hope to visit again x

No. 1 Bowskills Yard is full of character and situated in a quiet and picturesque corner of upper Settle at the top of the aptly named Constitution Hill. It is both two minutes walk away from stunning open countryside and all the amenities of the market square. There is a pretty little suntrap garden, perfect for breakfast, a glass of wine at sundown and lit by fairy lights at night. The 300 year old cottage is comfortably furnished but also practical for those enjoying outdoor pursuits.
The cottage is situated on a hill and the road is narrow. The staircase is steep and therefore the cottage is unfortunately not suitable for the differently abled. Parking is difficult and there is no dedicated parking. There are, however, reasonably priced car parks close by and the cottage is within walking distance of the railway station. Up to two well-behaved dogs welcome (depending on size!) We provide luxury bedlinen and towels and all that you might need for the first couple of nights of your stay (a pint of milk, teabags, loo rolls etc). The Co-Op is at the bottom of the hill and is open from 7am to 10 pm every day. The well-equipped kitchen has a washing machine and dishwasher, iron and ironing board. The cottage has fast broadband, a decent sized smart TV and a DVD player. The stone floors downstairs are practical for those enjoying the fabulous walking nearby. There are plenty of coatpegs. Upstairs the cosy bedroom has a comfy double bed with views over the ancient rooftops and countryside beyond. A hairdryer is provided. The bathroom has a large bath with shower over and is sparkling clean and fresh. We guarantee you will relax!
Settle has three pubs and some decent eateries. There are plenty of good coffee/tea shops. Settle Victoria Hall has a wide variety of events, including live music and the National Theatre Live Screening. There are two supermarkets (Booths and the Co-Op) and a few individual shops. The Settle to Carlisle railway is the most picturesque railway journey in the UK and steam trains pass through regularly. Surrounded by rugged hills, Settle has an air of tranquillity that is a welcome antidote to the stresses of modern life.
  • A superbly cosy and stylish retreat in a fantastic location. Spotlessly clean and excellent hosts. A really lovely spot!

    Martin2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is the cutest and cosiest place we’ve ever been. It felt just like a home away from home. Before we arrived we received a message from Martin and Judith outlining what we could do when we arrived, what was where, recommendations of things to do, places to see and places to eat which was really lovely. Martin and Judith met us as we arrived, they showed us where to park the car and helped us unload. When we got in to the cottage, they had left biscuits, milk and coffee/ teabags so we could have a brew. The heating was also on which was a bonus because it was cold and there were snowy conditions when we arrived. The location was perfect for us, we enjoy walking/ running so it was close enough to everything we wanted to explore around the dales, we would 100% go back. If you’re looking for a nice weekend break or midweek break this is the place to go.

  • From the moment we booked, Lawrence kept us informed, and was quick to reply to any questions or concerns. Lawrence welcomed us upon our arrival, and gave a quick guided tour of the accommodation, which is absolutely brilliant for the money. Lovely touches with the welcome pack, containing snacks, milk, breakfast cereals, and prosecco. The cafe, which Lawrence and his lovely wife, Gill, run below, serves great breakfasts, and their carrot cake was devine! It's everything you need for a nice break in god's own county. We were a small family, 2 adults, 1 teenager, and a dog, and we had enough room to spread about. I would not hesitate to stay here again. The buck Inn, is literally steps away, and the Lister arms and beck hall ( secret garden), not much further. We weren't blessed with great weather, but still managed a few short walks. Malham cove is stunning, and only a mile away. Thank you Lawrence and Gill!

    Simon2020-02-26T00:00:00Z

    Karl2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wish we could give 10 stars for location! Stayed at Lawrence's place while we did the 'Julia Bradbury' walk. The Old Barn apartment was perfectly situated for the start and end of the circular walk and is right in the centre of Malham, close to the two pubs and smithy. The accommodation is clean and cosy and was definitely a home from home, with milk and biscuits left for us so we could have a welcome cuppa. We will definitely return in the summer and would recommend the Old Barn without reservation.

    Barbara2020-02-13T00:00:00Z

Located on School Lane close to the centre of Settle, this Grade II listed cottage has been tastefully restored to provide a superb base to tour The Yorkshire Dales National Park. The open living room & dining kitchen is well equipped, with a double bedroom & shower wc all on one level & full height rooms. Central heating throughout the cottage. There is a loft area upstairs for storage of luggage & cycles.
There is free on street parking opposite the cottage. One of the town car parks is 150m away & costs under £15.00 per week.
  • Nice cosy cottage walking distance from several pubs and a co-op. The hosts were very obliging accommodating us at short notice when our previous airbnb cancelled our reservation at the last minute. Kitchen had everything we needed and the bed was comfy.

  • A lovely little cottage in a great spot from friendly people, what's not to like :) Parking was a little walk (it had been accurately described) but I turned out to be easy, I would say in the height of the season it might be a little more problematic but we found it a breeze and no issue at all. I would recommend this cottage and location.

  • The cottage was fantastic with everything we needed for a few days. Settle was an excellent base for walks in the dales. We saw majestic waterfalls and climber Pen-y-Ghent. I'd highly recommended Peter's place.

  • Had a delightful time in Louise Cottage. Location is perfect - very close to the centre of town. Cottage was warm, cosy, spotlessly clean with those extra touches that make for a really pleasant stay like fresh flowers, hot water bottles, blankets, milk in the fridge, tea and cooking essentials. Check in was very easy, and hots provided lots of genuinely helpful local tips! :)

  • The best thing about this place is the location which is perfect for going for walks and in a beautiful little town that’s fun to explore. The cottage is gorgeous, perfect for purpose; quick to heat up, comfortable, good kitchen, great shower, friendly locals, generally really lovely!

I regret that the accommodation at Friars Garth Farmhouse will be closed for the duration of the COVID 19 emergency. Accommodation, car parks, restaurants, cafes, pubs and takeaways in the area have closed in order to deter crowding and support the national effort to slow the surge in infections and flatten the peak. I hope that you'll consider staying with us once things have returned to normal. In the meantime please look after yourselves, stay home, and stay safe. Nick
The bedroom and en-suite are self contained and on the first floor, and they feature sloping ceilings and low beams. There is electric heating and the en-suite has WC, wash basin and shower. The property is 5 minutes walk up from the village centre and guests will be able to buy breakfast in either the Old Barn Café from 0930 or the Lister Arms from 0800. Both of the pubs in the village also provide lunch and evening meals (we also provide a jar of granola, as well as tea and coffee in the room for a quick DIY breakfast). There is a small fridge in the room with milk, and a kettle for making hot drinks. There are 2 matching single beds which can be pushed together and covered with a super-king sized duvet if required (please note that the mattresses do no not zip together though). There are a couple of comfy chairs and a TV, and enough space to put up a travel cot if you are bringing one. To get to the room you need to climb an outside flight of stone steps; these are worn and uneven in places and we wouldn’t recommend them for anyone with limited mobility or for unsupervised young children. There is space on the driveway for parking and we can provide access on request to the garage where there is space for a couple of bikes, climbing gear etc. We can also sort out somewhere to dry wet gear if you need it and provide access to a washing machine and drying rack. Respectfully, we do don’t allow smoking either in the room or anywhere on the property, including in the gardens and driveway. We are happy to welcome dogs though, and have a dog and two cats of our own. Friars Garth Farmhouse was built in the seventeenth century for the local manager from Bolton Priory which owned half of Malham at that time. After that, it was a working farm until just a few decades ago. It is situated on the outskirts of the village and surrounded by meadows. We look forward to welcoming you and looking after you!
Malham is a traditional and picturesque village in the Yorkshire Dales, and a great starting point for numerous walks or rides. The Pennine Way passes through it. The foot of Malham Cove, an 80m (260’) high limestone cliff, is an easy 20 minute walk from the house, and there are also easy walks to the small glade and waterfall at Janet’s Foss, and the larger falls in the narrow gorge at Gordale Scar. For longer days out on foot on Malham Moor there is the tranquil Malham Tarn, and views from the top of Fountains Fell, or bridle ways across towards Settle or Kilnsey Crag, or the ‘Monks Trod’ footpath down into Arncliffe. Heading over the hills in the car, the market town of Settle is 20 minutes away. There are shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pubs and you can catch the famous Settle-Carlisle trains from here. Alternatively, driving down the dale brings you to Gargrave in about 20 minutes, and Skipton 10 minutes beyond that. Skipton is a bigger market town with shops, supermarkets, restaurants and pubs and there are frequent trains and buses to Leeds and Bradford. Short drives from Malham will also take you over to Wharfedale (Bolton Abbey, Hetton, Litton, Kettlewell), or over to the 3 peaks area (Horton, Clapham and Ingleton). Road cyclists, mountain bikers, riders, climbers and potholers will also find plenty to do in the immediate vicinity.
  • Had a lovely stay . Accommodation had everything we needed. Very comfy and clean and lovely little extra touches with fresh milk, cereals and drinks making facilities. Nick was lovely and very welcoming. Replied to any communication promptly and was very helpful. Place was in a fantastic location for walks and pubs. Will definitely be back.

The room was lovely and in a perfect location for local walks. Malham is a beautiful little village. We both had a great time and genuinely couldn't fault it, even if the great British weather gave us some difficulties!

Gemstone Cottage is furnished & finished to an exceptionally high standard throughout. Open plan ground floor with a wood burning stove, the well equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher. There is a south facing terrace at the rear with garden furniture & great views. Both bedrooms are en suite.

    Graeme2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage was lovely. Peter was quick to respond to any questions we had. The road outside is quite steep and narrow so it makes it a bit of a rush to unpack the car so as to not to block the cars coming up the hill but by no means should put anyone off. The home was warm, lovely and clean. The Talbot Arms serve lovely food as does the Royal Oak. My only niggle was catching my legs on the beds as it was a bit tight but I had read that in another post so was expecting it. We will definitely be booking again for longer this time. Thank you Peter x

  • Wonderful cottage, small but perfectly formed, we couldn't get over how well thought out the compact layout was and with two ensuite rooms, a dishwasher and washer/dryer it had all mod cons you'd need for a short or long stay! The car park was only a short stroll away and we would definitely come back!

Great location for walking in the countryside and along the canal, with Malham and all the associated walks around there close at hand, accessed either by bus or your own car within about 15 or so minutes. • We had a wonderful stay in this lovely, cosy cottage. All the rooms are beautufully decorated and the cottage has a real charm about it. Each room has lovely personal touches and it feels really homely. It hadnt everything we needed anf Netflix was a nice touch when sitting down to relax after a long day walking! For us, location was great. Less than 10 minutes from Settle and about 30 minutes drive through the beautiful countryside to Malham.

Beautifully renovated 18th century listed, self contained annexe with fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher, large vaulted bedroom with exposed beams. Situated in the centre of Gargrave village near the river and on the edge of the rugged and beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park . Perfect for exploring the area, a stones throw from the Pennine Way, only 10 minutes walk from the train station and canal. Complimentary Au Lait toiletries. Well behaved doggies welcome.
Cosy open plan bespoke country kitchen with microwave, dishwasher and fridge, dining area and lounge with exposed stone walls and cobbled courtyard with parking to outside. Bespoke oak staircase takes you to stunning light and airy bedroom with exposed roof beams and ensuite marble bathroom
Gargrave really is in a great position, on the Pennine way and on the edge of the fabulous Dales but not too far away from anything you might need, even Michelin star restaurants (yes they do exist outside London !) For the antique hunters out there (and we love everything 18th century) there are three very good antique shops in Gargrave. There is a fantastic farm shop with fabulous meat and veg only 5 minutes away, and the best cheese shop ever, 20 mins up the road towards Cumbria which itself is only just over an hours drive. For those wishing to leave the cooking and get hot and spicy there is an award winning Indian restaurant only 4 doors away. For the gourmands we have some fantastic fine dining experiences close by, with the very nice Angel at Hetton (8 min drive) which has recently been taken over by 2 Michelin * chef Michael Wignall from Gidleigh Park, the superb Burlington at the Devonshire Arms Bolton Abbey (15 min drive and which deserves a Michelin * ! ) and the Michelin * White Swan a little further at Fence (30 min) . If you want to go down the traditional route there are two cracking real Yorkshire pubs serving good Yorkshire ale and pub food and a good fish and chip shop only a 5 minute stroll away. Fancy a good old English breakfast then we have a nice little cafe at the end of the road. The River Aire is just a stones throw where you can skip across the stepping stones and have a picnic by the river. We are not too far away from the beautiful Bolton Abbey (with super walks by the river), the Pendle witches, Bronte country and Boundary Mill for great bargains for the shopaholics !
  • Alison's place is a wonderful base to explore Yorkshire Dales from, located on the Pennine Way. Alison was most helpful with maps on the local walks, handy telephone numbers, etc. The house is even better than advertised - there are many thoughtful touches like lovely toiletries, lots of board games and magazines for the cold evenings and very well done up interiors. A converted portion of their house, one gets the feeling that a lot of careful effort and love went into the design. Alison was very hospitable and kept in touch with us before, especially as our plans changed last minute. She was there in person to check us in and give us a warm welcome. Our only regret is that we had to cut our trip short and could not stay longer. Really hoping to be back some day.

    Ekta2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • A well equipped place with everything you will need. Easy off-road parking. Some nice touches including toiletries, teas and choccie biscuits. Excellent welcome pack with suggestions of places to visit and where to eat. Good location for us to explore the Dales. Close to Skipton and a short walk to a Co-op, the river and canal. If you're light sensitive, be aware the daylight comes through the bathroom rooflight into the bedroom.

  • As always another great stay. Lovely place to stay.

    Tina2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • We throughly enjoyed our stay at Alison's place. On arrival, Keith and Alison were very hospitable and gave us some great ideas of things to do in the local area. The house is absolutely stunning and there are loads of little extras which make it just really well thought out and special. The local area is absolutely stunning and we can't wait to come back and explore some more! Would highly recommend.

  • Another great stay.

    Tina2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely welcome from Alison in a cold and wet day. The annex looked welcoming and Alison had put side lights on to make it look cosy and warm. The decor is beautiful and finished to a high spec. Everything that you need is provided as well as little extras to give that finishing touch. Highly recommend a visit.

  • Great location for our short stay. The loft is cozy and has everything you might need. The road up to accommodation is quite narrow and winding but don’t be put off as it’s the last property on the road you don’t really meet any other traffic. Welcome to my riverside apartment in the quiet village of Airton, in Malhamdale, about 20 minutes by car from Skipton. Malham is just up the river, Settle is over the hill, and the Yorkshire Three Peaks are nearby too. A lovely, peaceful retreat.

The master bedroom is spacious and looks out across the river, a lovely sight after a good night’s sleep, whilst the two other bedrooms provide flexible sleeping arrangements. This apartment in Airton provides a comfortable and well laid out base for a family or group of friends to get away from it all and enjoy fabulous Malhamdale and the broader dales. The former mill is set in lovely, large communal grounds, which include a parking area, formal gardens, a drying area and access to 'Frank's Land', which is a beautiful riverside wild garden meadow area, plus just a short walk away is direct access onto the Pennine Way. There is also a third of a mile of fly fishing for wild brown trout, available on request. Farm shop 5 mins walk, pub 2 miles. About the location AIRTON Gargrave 4 miles; Malham 4 miles; Skipton 8 miles. The picturesque Dales village of Airton is situated in beautiful Malhamdale amidst superb open limestone countryside. The village was known as Airtone in the Domesday Book, and was originally a Quaker village. There is still a Quaker meeting house, along with a squatter's cottage on the village green and an old mill on the River Aire. Airton boasts a popular farm shop and tea room at Town End Farm, which is renowned for selling excellent local produce. Airton is a great starting point for walkers, with a route along the Pennine Way into Malhamdale, or you may wish to walk from Gargrave to Malham, via Kirkby Malham, where you will find an historic parish church and village inn. More energetic walkers should explore Calton over Calton Moor to Weets Top and Gordale, or eastwards towards Hetton. Nearby Malham is a magnet for visitors to the Dales who come to see Malham Cove, one of Britain's most impressive natural features. The Cove consists of a natural cavern or 'amphitheatre' of limestone rock stretching 75 metres in height and 300 metres around the perimeter. A steep walk up man-made steps is rewarded with a superb view across moors and limestone pavements to Malham Tarn - the Pennines' highest lake. Airton is a wonderful central location with Skipton, Settle and Grassington all within easy reach of this Yorkshire Dales village. “The flat is very clean, well equipped, and comfortable for our family of five. The location is ideal for walking the Pennine Way. The flat has an excellent view of the river Aire. We were pleasantly surprised and think the star rating should be more. Excellent overall.” Mrs Coxon, Market Harborough, August 2014 “The property was in an ideal position and so quiet and peaceful. We had a wonderful 5 nights there and would certainly go back there again.” Mrs Smith, Newtownards, July 2014
Airton is on the Pennine Way and the Yorkshire Dales Cycleway. There is a farm shop and cafe about five minutes walk away, they sell basic provisions, (milk, bread etc.) and more importantly wine, beer, and cake. The popular cafe opens in time for a late breakfast, until about 5pm. (Closed most Mondays.) Malham is a couple of miles up the river, and is very popular with walkers and day-trippers. Attractions include Malham Cove, Janet's Foss (waterfall in the woods), and Gordale Scar, a spectacular gorge. Above the village is Malham Tarn, a lake surrounded by National Trust reserves. Malham has a choice of shops, pubs and cafes. The closest pub to Airton is The Victoria, in Kirkby Malham, half way to Malham. About 10 minutes in the car over the tops is the small market town of Settle, at the start of the picturesque Settle-Carlisle steam railway. Skipton is 20 minutes away, and has a great High Street for shopping. There's a choice of supermarkets and petrol stations, also Skipton Castle, the steam railway, and canal cruises.
  • Joe’s cottage is a wonderful place to stay & experience the beauty of Malhamdale & the Yorkshire Dales. It is perfect for a family of 5, exceptionally clean & well equipped, comfy beds & relaxing living room. We stayed during storm Dennis, still managed to do 2 days of walking, through rain, snow & sun, from Airton to Malham to Janet’s Foss, and day 2 we climbed Malham cove & across to Gordale Scar. The cottage was a very cosy return & had a good airing cupboard & clothes horse to dry off our walking gear. The view from the kitchen windows out on to the river is beautiful. It was so peaceful, we stayed for 3 nights but wish we could have had longer.

    Zoe2020-02-21T00:00:00Z

If you like to fall asleep to the soft river as it passes by. If you like cosy beds. If you like a lovely warm & cosy home to relax in. The Mill is for you!

  • Apartment is very well suited and the kitchen is well equipped. New bathroom is lovely. There is a great farm shop and cafe nearby. Wonderful walks close by too.

    Vicki2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful views and great location so close to fabulous walks, pubs and restaurants. Try Beck Hall for something more up market, where dogs are welcome. Unheard of in Australia and we loved that as much as the food and service. Joe provides for a trouble free and well provisioned stay, I highly recommend staying here and hope to be back one day!

    Sandra2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was our third stay at Joe's place as a family of four, which probably tells you all you need to know! This trip we did our usual favourite visits/walks (please see my previous reviews). Tried a couple of new things too which we'd already recommend - visit to Bolton Abbey and nice riverside walk in the grounds (kids liked the stepping stones across the river although it was a little tougher than I'd expected given the amount of recent rainfall and the height of the river!) and a circular walk from Settle via Victoria's Cave. Hoping we'll be back again!

    Kate2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Our second stay in the house in Airton. And we will be back again another time.

  • If you’re looking for a pretty, romantic but stylish apartment for a get away, you have to stay here. It’s in the middle of a small, beautiful, traditional Yorkshire town with shops, pubs, cafes & ample amenities. On the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, I would imagine it’s a great location for good walks too which I’ll be doing on my return. The apartment was modern, clean with everything you need to live home from home. And the bath... Wowzer!! It was luxury!! I went to work there in peace for a couple of days and didn’t want to leave. Highly recommended.
