Secluded site, hidden behind a retirement estate, in a riverside village, landscape views, just 4 miles, 10-15 min drive to York's ancient walls alt: 2m to Park & Ride or 30min cycle 2 ensuite bedrooms, open plan dining / lounge, TV / DVD with 2 sofa beds 5* Kitchen:dishwasher, washer/dryer, microwave, fridge, cooker, iron, hairdryer Pine table + chairs, cutlery / crockery /glassware x 6 Linen/towels included HW/CH 24/7 Greet the sunrise! on the covered east facing verandah, in own 1/4 acre plot
Orchard Lodge is a scandinavian log cabin sited in its own 1/4 acre secluded plot with covered verandah and timber decking. We will greet you on arrival, and guide you to the private parking at Orchard Lodge, and personally show you around your accommodation. You will then be able to enjoy the peace of the site and surrounding fields with only the sounds of nature, and an occasional agricultural noise to disturb you. We are however close enough to respond to requests for assistance, as we live just 100m away in the original Mount Pleasant Farmhouse screened from view by the trees of the old farm orchard and gardens. Accessing our property, from the public highway, you pass 300m through the Mount Pleasant Park Home Estate, a retirement village, which guests are occasionally surprised to find, however it is completely separate from Orchard Lodge, and our property. Please respect the 10mph speed limit when passing through this retirement village, as these are our neighbours, and the residents are friendly and polite. Entering our property there is a sign right to Mount Pleasant House, our home, and left to Orchard Lodge. Call at our home to be guided to the private floodlit parking at Orchard Lodge and be shown personally around your accommodation. This is the beginning of your relaxing break in Orchard Lodge.
The best of both worlds: Beautiful riverside village in the rural fringe of the City of York with Askham Bar park and ride just 2 miles away. Why not visit one of the the 8 village Pubs all serving food within a 5 mile radius of the lodge, see the guidebook section for a further details. The famous walls and ancient buildings of the City of York are only 4 miles away with a wealth of historical sites, festivals, restaurants and bars. Surrounded by the Vale of York there are miles of beautiful countryside to walk, cycle or drive through. Alternatively we are central for trips across Yorkshire and its many delights, Leeds, Harrogate, Wakefield, Bradford, Helmsley, Hull and Whitby to mention but a few see the guidebook section for a further details.
  • Great place to stay

  • This was our second visit to Orchard Lodge. It’s spotlessly clean , comfortable and warm. Apart from our grandchildren it was so peaceful. We were sad to leave.

    Martin2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Such a beautiful place to stay. It had everything we needed and more. Plenty of space and immaculately clean. Well positioned and breathtaking surroundings.

    Heather2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place, nice and quiet area (However the floor/planks inside are a bit noisy when you walk around inside the hut). Very comfy, sparkling clean and very friendly host. Close to York/Park and Ride and there is everything you need. I would definitely recommend.

  • A fabulous log cabin in a large private garden with fruit trees, surrounded by countryside. Simple, Danish style log cabin decor. We had a wonderfully relaxing stay. Child friendly too. Great location with plenty to do locally and not far from York

    Nicola2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • We have had a lovely weekend staying at Orchard Lodge. Within very easy reach of York, the lodge was nicely presented and the hosts were really helpful. We really enjoyed our recent visit.

    Wendy2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The lodge is absolutely lovely, spotlessly clean and has everything you need. Richard is a great host with plenty of advice and easy communication, we wouldn’t have any hesitation staying here again!

You’ll share the main entrance and stairs of our home with us, but it’s self contained once you are up in the loft. It’s more like a studio flat than a room! The house itself is in a quiet suburb south of the centre of York. It's not too far into the centre - a 10 minute bus ride or a pleasant 20-30 minute walk alongside the river Ouse. Please make sure you check the address and don’t go to the wrong street!
A lovely attic space, recently converted with a big airy bedroom, a good sized bathroom and a little kitchen area. The loft room has a modern fresh interior in grey, white and brights! There's a lovely comfy king size bed with a non feather duvet, pillows and a cotton blanket. The room is big enough to also fit a single bed (stored under the king size bed when not required. Please note this bed is only made up if you pay for the third guest)! Again non feather pillows and duvet. There is a television, dvd player and dvds. There's a hairdryer too. The bathroom has an electric shower over a full sized bath. The kitchen has a fridge, kettle and combination microwave. You can borrow an iron and ironing board, just ask. The room has a beautiful view over the back garden and our neighbours' gardens too! From the vellux window you can see the old Terry’s chocolate factory clock tower (the racecourse is next to that). It's the best of both worlds as it's a quiet suburban area with leafy streets. Nearby there are pubs with decent food and a row of shops for essential supplies. If you walk over the Millennium bridge you’ll find the famous ‘Bishy Road’ - lots of eateries and unique independent shops. There's a cycle/foot path at the end of the street and it's an easy 20-30 minute walk into town along the river Ouse past the Millennium Bridge. York is a beautiful city with lots of history and loads to see! Plenty of pubs, restaurants and nightlife.... There are buses into town, and onwards.
Peaceful green suburbs with easy access to the 'Bright lights'! 20-30 minute walk to Clifford’s Tower.

Modern studio annex to 1850s cottage with its own access, very close to river (too close when it floods!), big family garden, feels like a country retreat but only 15 minutes' easy river walk from city centre. Should the annex be booked for your preferred dates, do look up our new shepherds hut in the garden for an alternative.
A lovely newly-built studio attached to the main house with a king-size bed and its own sitting area. The studio feeling is clean and modern, though outside it's more like a country cottage, with our nearest neighbours more than 100m away. There's a simple kitchen area with a sink, fridge, microwave and tea/coffee-making facilities, but no hob/oven. There is an electric shower, sink and toilet. If you're bringing children then we can provide two single mattresses with bedding - the garden has a sunk-in trampoline and a slide (at your own risk!). We also have 3 hens and a dog (who never comes into the annex). Given our occasional flood risk the floors are tiled, which can be chilly on the feet in winter, so slippers can be a bonus!
We're surrounded by greenery on four sides: a meadow, a wood, a field and allotments, so the overall feeling is very peaceful. Finding a house so close to the centre of York with so much space is very unusual. The beautiful Rowntree's Park is 5 minutes' walk across the Millennium Bridge. We are a couple of miles from Heslington where York university is, there is also a lovely cycle/walking route. Also within 5 minutes there's an Indian restaurant, a very local Sam Smith's pub, a pastry shop, a pharmacy, a Sainsbury's local and - our closest shop - an Aldi. For a wider selection of cafes, shops and restaurants, it's worth walking into town or across the river to the lovely Bishopthorpe Road area. Easy walking distance to York Racecourse which takes around 20 minutes.
  • Brilliant place in an excellent location. Couldn't ask for more.

    Emily2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful Airbnb - great location, lovely space with such a comfy bed, great hosts, excellent touches such as good books and breakfast ingredients. All in all a lovely, quiet, peaceful place to stay within walking distance of the centre of York.

    Jean2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Selena and Peter's apartment was lovely and in a great location for exploring York. There was a lot of space for the two of us, including comfy chairs and a small kitchen/sink/microwave area. We were provided with cereal and milk, and thoughtful touches like wine and chocolate bars. The walk into the city by the river took us about 20 minutes and was very enjoyable. I'd highly recommend this apartment to anyone wanting to visit York.

    Helen2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Selena was an amazing host and the house was lovely. It is located around an amazing riverside where you can enjoy York. Would stay again!

  • Such a great weekend away in York. Fantastic location just a 10min walk to the centre. Place is really nice to say lots of space. you feel so close to the city yet you are 100% getting a good night sleep not a sound at night. Hosts are very nice people too.

    Rob2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Peter and Selena’s place was an amazing stay. The place is super clean and cozy, and they were both very hospitable. The price is also very reasonable. Not too far from the centre of York either with a 15 min walk by the river. Their place is perfect for anyone wishing to visit the city and would highly recommend this place for future guests. Thank you both again for a great stay.

  • The star room by the river is quiet. Fewer people are recommended.

    Steven2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Couldn't reccomend this little cabin more! So cute and romantic and perfect for spending quality time with your partner or friend! Eva and Jay have gone to so much effort to make sure every detail is perfect and just makes it extra special. So warm and snuggly even in January and the breakfast was amazing!! We wanted to stay another night but unfortunately it was booked out so we went to Rosebud cabin. That was so cute too! Slightly less whimsical but still beautiful and I'd reccomend that one if you want a big bed and more space. Couldn't reccomend more and was really good value for money as alot of Yurts are hundreds a night. Thank you! Will be staying again I'm sure <3

The cottage is a Grade II listed barn conversion offering a welcoming base for your stay. Heating is provided by a biomass boiler, so very eco friendly. There is also a wood burning stove to keep you cosy. We are in a quiet village called East Cottingwith: a fantastic base for visiting York and touring Yorkshire. Ideal for cyclists, bird watchers, walkers and anyone who wishes to enjoy a rural location close to the attractions of the city of York. There is no regular public transport.
The cottage was originally an agricultural barn which has been converted to a high standard, using the original bricks but with modern insulation to keep you warm and cosy. The kitchen units, doors and windows have all been handmade by a local master craftsman. The ground floor comprises a spacious open plan living area with a separate kitchen. The lounge has a wonderful wood burner. The kitchen is fully equipped with modern appliances. There is a also a bathroom with a large shower cubicle. Upstairs there are two bedrooms (1 double, 1 twin), and a toilet. The cottage is ideal for 3/4 people. The twin room has two single beds. Although it is a little snug for two adults, previous guests have been more than happy with the arrangement. You will need your own transport since there is little in the way of public transport.
East Cottingwith is a delightful village, mentioned in the Domesday Book. It is nice and peaceful, with lovely dark skies for star gazing. The mediaeval city of York is a must see (York Minster, Jorvik Centre, The Shambles, National Railway Museum) and there are numerous other attractions within easy day trip distance, such as Whitby, the North York Moors, Leeds and Castle Howard. We are near the York Maze and the Wedding Barn at Barmby Moor.
  • Lovely place, really clean and well laid out. It had everything and more that you need for a stay. Even enough fire wood for an evening. The host was there just after we arrived and then responded to messages immediately when I sent them. It is a lovely quiet location, about 25 mins from the York Designer Village Park n Ride , then 10 mins in on the bus. York was great for us with a 6 year old, lots to see and do. Thanks Mhairi and fam for a great stay, I’m sure we will be back x

    Kate2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Everything is as described on airbnb. We stayed 2 nights but would have loved to stay longer.

    Sheryl2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful building with all the right touches. Nice and peaceful location within half an hour of York and only fifteen minutes from the York Air Museum. We especially enjoyed snuggling as a family in front of the log burner! I would recommend to anyone!

    James2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great place in a stunning location. Mhairi was an attentive and helpful host, will definitely stop again.

    Stuart2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mhairi’s place was absolutely perfect. Much bigger than expected, very comfortable for a family of four. It had everything you’d need, and is close to York and other fantastic cities. Mhairi was warm and hospitable, and we would absolutely stay at her Airbnb again. Highly recommend!!

    Molly2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic welcome and hospitality in a lovely location, I recommend this place for a cosy stay.

    Richard2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Mhairi's Barn was the perfect setting for our trip to York. It's not far at all from the city, the Grimston Bar Park & Ride only 20 minutes away by car. The barn itself was very clean, modern and cosy, the wood burning stove in particular was lovely and perfect for the winter weather. The barn had everything we needed, and Mhairi was accommodating and on hand whenever we needed her. Would definitely recommend this as a place to stay!

    Charlotte2019-12-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place to stay for a relaxing weekend. Difficult to find fault with the whole experience. We will hopefully be back to stay again and would highly recommend your location and accommodation to anyone.

The Old Forge is a tranquil detached house with a garden in the centre of South Bank, in a well-hidden street. I promise you'll get a really quiet night's sleep! It's 10 minutes from the race course or the trendy Bishy Road high street, or 20 minutes from the station and centre of York. It's perfect for a family break, sleeps 4 in 2 bedrooms (1 double, 1 bunk). The conservatory and garden are south facing, great for summer nights with friends or family. You can even bring your dogs!
The kitchen & lounge space is a great family area, with a 32" TV, sofa & comfortable arm chair, and French windows lighting the room up. For sunny weather, there's a bijou south-facing garden & conservatory so you can make the most of the sun, with a stylish G-Plan table & chairs, as well as outdoor furniture. Or you can get on with your work in a flood of daylight, whatever the weather. In warm weather, fling all the doors open and let the kids or dogs come and go. Upstairs, there is a double bedroom with wardrobe, a single bedroom with bunks and shared bathroom with shower & bath. (there's also a downstairs toilet). Outside there's a secure metal bike shed, and access all around the property for kids or dogs to run in circles, safely fenced in. There's also two dedicated parking spaces at either of the property (though NB access down Trafalgar Court is narrow, especially for 4x4s - just take it slowly!). The whole house is heated by a Nest thermostat, and there's 40Mb wireless broadband available to keep you in touch with your office, Netflix or iPlayer :)
South Bank is a really great area of York - it's only 10 minutes walk to York Racecourse or the river (both great for dog walks when there's a race day), 15 to Bishopthorpe Road shops ((URL HIDDEN) and 20 minutes walk into town.
  • Great place, excellent location, shop, nice pub and Chinese takeaway all within walking distance Which were useful as we got there after 630 on the Friday. Parking is a little awkward just take it slowly and you'll be fine, we have a suzuki vitara and managed it OK. 25 minute stroll along the river to get into the centre of York, plenty of buses also. Very Clean place and very private and quiet. 5 stars all round.

    Daniel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious, clean and comfortable. A reasonable walk from the city walls/centre. Facilities were true to the posted photos. Having laundry was so handy and the host allowed us to drop our luggage off before check in, which was very appreciated. The place could use a new coat of paint but otherwise was perfect and great value for what we paid.

    Gillian2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely quiet house within walking distance of York centre, with parking! It was comfortable and impeccably clean. Perfect for what we needed.

    Natasha2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and comfortable place.

    Yorky2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first experience with Airbnb. The location and accommodation was perfect for us. We were able to walk into York or catch the bus easily and Matthew responded quickly to our messages.

    Claire2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely home and very responsive host

    Elizabeth2019-10-25T00:00:00Z
  • Super, clean, dog friendly house, great private & secure garden but check that your car can negotiate the tight access to the private parking, because street parking nearby isn't an option (well, wasn't for us).

Taxi services cost around £9-11 to and from the city centre/railway station. FREE PARKING There is plenty of free parking available just next to the houseboat. FISHING Keen anglers may enjoy fishing along the River Ouse during open season (15th June - 15th March), You can even cast your rod off the side of the boat - who knows what you might catch! THE CAMPSITE The campsite alongside the boat is in use during the warmer half of the year, and there is a tea hut selling sandwiches, hot drinks and sweet treats open from 8am until 5pm every day during this period.
Bishopthorpe is a beautiful village dating back to the 12th century, making it a perfect holiday destination just on the outskirts of York. York is a town steeped in history, founded by the Romans, occupied by the Vikings, a trading centre in medieval times, and a hub of the industrial revolution with important rail links and, importantly, chocolate factories! All of these changes are visible in the fabric of the town and in the many sites and museums you can visit during your stay. York also has a lively food scene with a huge range of both independent and well-known restaurants and cafes. The boat is also a 20 minute walk from York racecourse where important race meets occur throughout the horse racing season, from May until October. The racecourse is also the site of one of the largest car boot sales in the area, where you can grab yourself a bargain every Saturday morning (apart from during race meets), early until around 1pm from late April until the end of October. The village of Bishopthorpe itself is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the boat and is home to three pubs and a sports & social club, a small Co-operative supermarket, a butcher's, a bakery, a fish & chip shop, a newsagent's, a sandwich shop, a library, a pharmacy, a barber and a parish church. For a wider choice of shops and restaurants, the Designer Outlet shopping complex is 10 minutes drive away. Bishopthorpe palace, the beautiful home of the archbishop of York, is a Grade I listed building visible from the embankment, though unfortunately it is not open to the public.
  • A lovely place to stay

    Kaseem2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely place would definitely recommend. Everything is what it says. A good position to travel about the area.

    Tracey2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place with good air, the surrounding environment is very quiet, very comfortable and very happy journey will recommend to friends.

    2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say! We stayed here as a group of 10 guys for a stag party. Apart from leaving for a few activities, we spent most of our time on the boat because it was simply an amazing place to stay! It's a lot bigger than you can imagine, very spacious, especially below deck in the bedrooms! We conformably slept 10 guys in their 30's. Kitchen facilities meant we cooked a couple of times and it came fully stocked with breakfast foods and cutlery/crockery! We were there in January so it was cold outside but the boat was very warm indeed! I can imagine the outside space being excellent but the inside didn't feel cramped even with 10 of us, so there is plenty of space to socialise! Would highly recommend and would definitely stay again. The hosts were in frequent communication, seemed like really nice people who wanted us to feel as relaxed as possible and they fully achieved that! Best Airbnb I have stayed in for a while!

  • Fantastic place to stay and explore York- very helpful hosts too.

    Susan2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • We booked for a New Year break. 7 of us in total and The Arc was nothing short of wonderful. The boat is very spacious. Extremely clean and every amenity you would need. As we went in the winter season, we did not walk into the city but it was very easy to purchase tickets for buses through our phones and the bus stop was at the top of the lane. We used the public transport links a lot whilst staying. On an evening, we would take a stroll up into the village, gorgeous variety of pubs serving lovely food and very friendly too. We will certainly return in the summer time when we can enjoy a glass of wine on the upper deck with the BBQ. Brittany and Michael were constantly in touch to make sure our stay was great, I cannot recommend this space enough.

  • This has been the first time I have ever used Airbnb, and I am so Happy I came across Roberts Home. He was an amazing host from the start, very thorough and friendly. He made us feel at home straight away. The home was beautiful inside and out, and had such attention to detail. All the amenities and utensils you could ever need were within the home. Not to mention the Thai food at the restaurant was delicious. I can’t rave enough about this place, but it has made a lot of lovely memories. We will definitely be returning. ☺️

    James2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious room. Very comfy beds. Lovely lining and super soft towels. Massive TV. Felt like they had thought of everything. Milk, cereal and fresh eggs in the fridge. Even an extra heater provided. Which was perfect, as we did stay on a very cold weekend, we did use it. The location was perfect for what we needed. Bus stop straight out side, infront of the church. 20 minutes to York centre and less than 10 minutes to York outlet centre. The buses also run every 15 minutes. Very impressed! £5.70 return to York. The driver even let us get off at the outlet centre on the way back for a bit of shopping and use the same return ticket to make the rest of the journal back to the property. The property was very easy to find. The restaurant which is attached is very well sign posted, so just look for that.

  • Staying at Roberts place was a dream. The place is beyond everything that he writes in his Airbnb posting. Robert greeted us and was so hospitable to us that he made our trip really enjoyable. The Thai restaurant is crazy good we came back from 30 days of Thailand eating and this is as good as any food in Thailand. I never thought I would ever say that.

  • Dear Robert, We absolutely loved staying at your cottage - it was in a beautiful setting with the garden and the church - and the little grey squirrels! The cottage itself was extremely comfortable and so nicely decorated - and I loved the AGA! We also enjoyed a very tasty meal at your Thai restaurant. A marvellous place to stay. And thank you for keeping in so well after we made the booking and for making us feel so welcome. Many thanks Julie and Alan (New Zealand)

Come and stay in the beautiful village of Escrick a 20 minute drive from York. My home is part of the original village school built in the 19th century. Breakfast, tea & coffee Plus tea tray in room Downstairs double room, with WC and basin adjacent. Brightly decorated with modern kitchen and bathroom. Private parking **Dogs welcome!** Frequent buses to York and nearby Designer Outlet. Freshly baked bread for breakfast! 2 DOGS & A CAT in house
The Old School Room is a home converted from an old Victorian classroom. To the front of the property you will see the addition of a room which is my guest room. It was an addition to the school in the 1930s and formed the cloakroom. Since the renovation the high ceilings have been carefully plastered creating a beautiful room. How do I know all this, well my children, my mother in law and her father all attended school here, making this such a special home. Behind the room is a separate toilet and basin. The new bathroom, with shower and bath, is upstairs. The living room still has the lovely feel of the old classroom with the high windows and even the stationery cupboard is still there! Now with new furniture and warm decoration this is a lovely room to relax in. The kitchen was refitted in 2016 boasting hob, microwave combination oven, fan oven, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher and boiling hot water tap, but if you prefer a kettle I can get one out! To the end of the kitchen is a beautiful dining area which is captures the sun. A carbon monoxide detector is not needed as there is no gas hob, no open fire and the boiler is outside. There is no gas to the property or in the village. The heating is oil fuelled. The boiler is serviced annually and passed all emission tests this year as expected. This is a working family kitchen, it is the heart of my home where I spend a lot of time - you’ll understand why.! You are invited to use this space in addition to your breakfast but are asked to accept that a busy family kitchen, with pets, cannot, no matter how hard I try to ensure it is, be kept sparkly clean 100% of the time. If you wish to use the kitchen to prepare your own meals please let me know when booking so I can ensure it’s extra sparkly!
The Old School Room is opposite the village pub, The Black Bull, which serves excellent food (there is a copy of the up-to-date menu in the room). The village also has two other restaurants The Parsonage and The Fat Abbott. The York Designer Outlet (complete with Park and Ride into York) is less than a 10 minutes drive away. Thus is a MacArthur Glen outlet with stores including Cath Kidston, Gap, M&S, Build a Bear, North Face, Mountain Wearhouse and many more! **BUS ** .... the service is the Arriva Yorkshire 415 and 416 (York - Selby). They pass through the village every 20 minutes during the day dropping to 30 minutes in the early evening to hourly later on. The last bus home on Friday and Saturday leaves York at mignight. You can download a timetable app and ticket app to aid your journey. *BUS STOP * this is a 10 minute walk from the house.
  • Judi was a fantastic, friendly host who went out of her way to ensure we had a brilliant stay. The room was great, her dogs and cat were so friendly and the place was ideal for what we needed. Thank you! I'm sure we'll be back.

  • We have experienced wonderful time in Judi’s home together with her dogs. Judi is an amazing host, very nice, helpful and warm. Moreover, she bakes delicious bread on the morning! The room is very clean and tidy, we had a wonderful night there. The area is very close to York and you can have a morning jogging session in the nearby forest. Thanks, Judi, for your hospitality and take care!

  • Had a wonderful stay with Judi , she really is the perfect host. Made us feel at home from the minute we walked in the door, and an added bonus that she has two lovely friendly spaniels to great you as well. The bed was comfy, house was lovely and clean, and had everything we needed along with the added extras of nespresso pods, breakfast and treats for our little doggy pep. Great conversation whilst watching Strictly and lots of play time for the dogs. Thanks again Judi for making our stay so wonderful.

  • What a fantastic experience at Judi’s beautiful accommodation. The room was fantastic and the whole house was immaculate. Judi was extremely helpful and was full of advice and tips. Her dogs were playful and loved all of the cuddles and helped make the house a home. We were really impressed by everything Judi offered and she went above and beyond whenever she could. Well worth a stay :)

  • When it comes to hospitality, Judi has written the book! My husband and I stayed recently in Judi's stylish, warm and beautifully presented home, and felt welcome throughout our stay. Our bedroom was immaculate, the bed comfy, the decor elegant and there was no noise anywhere, all contributing to a great night's sleep. We never mind sharing a host's bathroom, and Judi is justifiably proud of her glorious body-soaking shower! It's a good job she had gone to work when we showered in the morning, or she would have heard me singing with pleasure! Judi is a kind and exceptional host who goes more then the extra mile to make her guests feel at home. We came down to fabulous, fat fluffy croissants for breakfast - which were another 'Judi Superhost' touch. We were so taken with Judi's warmth, generosity and genuine joy in sharing her home with Airbnb guests, and we will book again in future. Thank you Judi from us both. Fairways is cosy and relaxing houseboat and it's a great way to experience living on the river. It is moored in the picturesque village of Bishopthorpe, with shops, fish & chips and pubs less than 10 min walk away. York's city centre is 10 min drive away and there is a local bus service. A riverside walk to the centre takes 50 min. In high season there is a little cabin selling drinks, ice cream and hot food and renting kayaks less than 100m away. Please read carefully for more details.
Our boat has a cosy living/bedroom area with an electric stove and a TV and a well-equipped kitchen with a hob, a small fridge and a dining area with our favourite window seat. The river view out of the window will provide the perfect backdrop to your houseboat experience :-) In the main living area there is a double bed and a sofa bed, which can be quickly converted into a small double bed for another 2 guests to sleep on or simply to relax on and put your feet up. Please keep in mind the main double bed is located at the front of the boat so it has a unique shape - narrow at the feet, 210 cm wide at the top and 186 cm long. The sofa bed has a similar shape: 102 cm at the feet, 112 cm at the top and 182 cm long. Please advise us at the time of booking if the sofa bed will be used for sleeping so that we can provide additional bedding before your check-in. We provide an electric stove, a de-humidifier and a fan for your comfort. In the winter we also provide an additional radiator for extra warmth. We have an umbrella for our guests but you may also want to bring wellies just in case, especially if you plan some countryside walks. There is a compact toilet onboard. Additional WC stalls and great spacious showers are available in the bathroom block 1 min walk from the boat. Fairways is perfectly located for switching off and enjoying the countryside but we have fast Wifi onboard for those of our guests who wish to stay connected, work or study. Check-in is 3pm to 9pm (please let us know if you plan to arrive after 9pm) and check-out is 11am. Late check-out is usually available for a small fee. If you have any special requests , please let us know and we'll try to accommodate them if possible.
Bishopthorpe is a great base for both a countryside experience and exploring York. There is a lot of greenery around our boat and a large free car park in the boat yard. This area is very popular with dog walkers and dogs are welcome on our boat. The riverside walk to York city centre is peaceful and beautiful. A walk to York's famous horse racecourse takes 30 min. There is also a frequent and convenient local bus service to both York city centre and the racecourse. The village of Bishopthorpe is very pretty and it's great for exploring on foot. A lovely walk to the historical Bishopthorpe Palace takes only 10 min. The village has excellent local pubs on Main Street, around 5 min from the boat. Fish & Chips takeaway is only 10 min away. You will also find a local Co-op store and other small shops in the neighbourhood.
  • Such a cosy, quirky stay. I stayed during storm Ciara and still had the best time. Ali messaged me to warn about the storm and checked into see if we were safe. I packed extra blankets as I thought we would be cold but the boat heats really quickly and is really comfortable. Will defo stay again

Set in the grounds of The Jefferson Arms Pub in Thorganby. Ideal base to explore the surrounding nature walks and local fishing spots. It is also on a designated bus route into York city centre where you can explore all this historic city has to offer.
  • A lovely room and en-suite situated just behind the pub, so nice and quiet. Clean, cosy and warm considering it was February and the host, Sean, was extremely hospitable from the moment we arrived. Recommend an excellent steak served in the pub and the breakfast was plentiful.

    Nick2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay with Sean perfect location for a work related trip.

    Keith2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy room and great customer service. Had a couple of meals in the pub. If Beef Wellington is on the menu, go for it. It was yummy.

    Patricia2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • The room is situated above a Pub’s outhouse, it was spacious, tastefully decorated, furnished and very comfortable. I ate an evening meal in the pub and they were very accommodating, the breakfasts were also very tasty, you can’t beat a full English breakfast. A great place for visiting York and the surrounding area. I spent the afternoon at the Yorkshire Air Museum which was also a great attraction and situated a few miles away in a neighbouring village.

Our focus is on cleanliness, comfort and friendliness. Situated in a peaceful residential area, 2 miles outside York centre, enjoy a relaxing break with the flexibility of self catering accommodation. We have excellent parking either on street or secure parking on your own private driveway. Regular bus routes into the city are easily accessible.
Middlethorpe Grove is off Tadcaster Road (A1036), the south side of the city. Around 2 miles from the city centre and the train station. We are well placed for getting into the city centre with its endless attractions and history by bus or by car. Also for touring the area with easy connections onto the A64 for east coast routes to Scarborough and the North Yorkshire Moors and also the A59 for the Yorkshire Dales and Harrogate. York University is easily accessible via the ring road by car.
  • Would highly recommend, the bungalow was perfect for us and would stay again if ever in the area in the future!

  • Loved staying at Joanne’s Airbnb. Really cosy, homely, has everything you need. Joanne provided a range of teas, milk in the fridge for our arrival. There was even breakfast cereals though we did not use these. We enjoyed cosy evenings watching DVDs that were provided but there was also guest Netflix. Theres a great folder with information on buses, food places etc and a little table with leaflets on what to do in the area. Joanne’s place is in a great location, only 2 miles Into York city centre, very near to the race course. Thank you Joanne for a very relaxing and peaceful stay, highly recommended.

Great to have a fridge in the room, and the bubbly went down a treat with the plentiful continental breakfast .

  • Thanks Ian and Allison for a great stay. Wifi much better than similar other places we've stayed, room was lovely and perfect for the two of us. As mentioned in other reviews, the extra touches (prosecco, coffee and continental breakfast) and welcoming feeling Ian and Allison gave are what set it apart. Lyngarth House added a touch a luxury to our stay that we weren't expecting and was just what we needed. Would love to stay again if we're ever back in York.

Our lovely little cabin is perfect for weekend excursions, romantic getaways or as a riverside base for longer stays in and around historic York. Please note there are no extra costs for cleaning or linen :)
The cabin comes ready for you to hop straight into bed after a long day! Sheets, towels, tea, coffee, and breakfast sundries included. The small decking area in front of the cabin can be a lovely spot for your morning cup of tea, weather permitting! The cabin is situated at the edge of a family-run campsite and backs onto a neighbouring wooded field. You’ll have full use of all campsite amenities, picnic area and little playground. There is a riverside tea hut on site that serves sandwiches, hot drinks, snacks and sweet treats every day through the summer months from 8am until 5pm. There is ample free parking in front and to the side of the cabin.
The cabin is also a 20 minute walk from York racecourse where important race meets occur throughout the horse racing season, from May until October. The racecourse is also the site of one of the largest car boot sales in the area, where you can grab yourself a bargain every Saturday morning (apart from during race meets), early until around 1pm from late April until the end of October. The village of Bishopthorpe itself is a 5 or 10 minute walk from the cabin and is home to three pubs and a sports & social club, a small Co-operative supermarket, a butcher's, a bakery, a fish & chip shop, a newsagent's, a sandwich shop, a library, a pharmacy, a barber and a parish church. For a wider choice of shops and restaurants, the Designer Outlet shopping complex is 10 minutes drive away. Bishopthorpe palace, the beautiful home of the archbishop of York, is a Grade I listed building visible from the embankment, though unfortunately it is not open to the public.
  • Lovely, cosy place to stay and enjoy the sights of York! Easy walk into the city centre - will definitely be visiting again.

    Phoebe2020-02-01T00:00:00Z

The bed is extremely comfortable, the whole place is very cozy and as a bonus we had lots of fun with the games we found under the bed!

    Andressa2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • A great value for money cabin, in a beautiful village not too far from York.

    Lisa2019-12-21T00:00:00Z

Naburn Grange Cottage is a farm worker’s cottage attached to an 18th century riverside farmhouse in between the villages of Naburn and Stillingfleet. With easy access to York by car, bus, cycle track or (in the summer months) riverbus, you can explore the city’s history or the beauty of the surrounding countryside. This one-bedroomed cottage is well-equipped and private, with the owners next door for information or advice on your visit.
The cottage has an entrance porch, open plan living room and kitchen with wood-burning stove, wifi, TV, fridge, electric oven and hob, sink, microwave, dishwasher and everything you need. Upstairs there is a double bedroom with storage, and a bathroom with electric shower, WC, basin. There are views over a picturesque garden to the river Ouse.
Naburn Grange Cottage is half a mile from the riverside village of Naburn, 3 miles from the York Designer Outlet and 5 miles from the City of York. The cottage is a short walk from Naburn Grange Riding School, Naburn Lock and the riverbus. The village of Naburn has a pub, church and post-office.
  • Would recommend this to family and friends Very clean and well equipped in a lovely quiet location

  • Jonathan is the best host ever! York was flooded when we went to visit and he was absolutely amazing with his communicating and tips and hospitality. We enjoyed the weekend amazingly due to Jonathan! A small walk to the closest village and a 15 car ride to york or get the bus and super close. Totally recommend. The cottage is the cutest thing and amazing! Perfect romantic weekend place 😁

    Ana2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This is a really nicely furnished little cottage, well located for access to York and the nearby Designer Outlet. It’s a lovely little retreat for a couple to use as a base to explore York. The cottage has great facilities: great kitchen with everything you’d expect, comfy bed, log burner, and great attention to detail. Mobile signal can be spotty (not at all a fault of the venue) but there’s WiFi available. Great communication from Jonathan, we visited in the aftermath of storm Ciara and the start of storm Dennis and we were kept up to date. Would really recommend to anyone wanting a break near York.

    Daniel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here to visit my family who live in the center of York (wasnt keen on staying central) It was the perfect distance to travel in to town and very quiet & peaceful which is what I needed. Great place to stay. Very cute & exactly like photos. So welcoming, even gifted little goodies for us to arrive to which was so kind. Quick on checking if all was okay/if anything was needed. Couldn't reccomend this place enough for people visiting Yorkshire :)

    Kyna2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • It’s a lovely cottage. The advert describes the place perfectly and the fire is dreamy. We did the walk that was suggested and it was beautiful. The pub near by had great food, and it was only a 15min drive into York. It’s in a stunning piece of the world and a very romantic setting. It was warm, clean, well furnished and comfy. Great kitchen amenities, brand new! We loved our little get away to the country side.

    Indiana2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jonathan’s place is absolutely wonderful. The cottage is brand new, really well equipped, and the decor is both cosy and stylish. I had a wonderful weekend there breathing in the fresh countryside air and lighting the fireplace in the evenings. The atmosphere is peaceful, perfect for anyone who wants to get away from the city life for a bit. It’s also super convenient to get into York, the bus stop is right outside his place. We opted for taking the cab instead, which cost about £13 and took about 15 minutes, but we saw the bus passing by, so it’s definitely reliable. Jonathan and his family are also extremely nice people and were very friendly. The listing doesn’t mention it, but they also have chickens who are really cute to watch. Overall we had an amazing stay and would definitely recommend the place.

    Bruno2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little hideaway for 2 people! Nice stylish furniture and lovely touches (for example, fresh flowers throughout) really really close to 2 park and rides and the Designer Outlet. Check in and check out we’re both really simple - would happily stay again!

A stunning studio in the historic village of Riccall, with free off-street parking and its own stylish kitchen and bathroom. Just 8 miles from the beautiful city of York, Riccall contains everything you might want for your break: restaurant, pubs, takeaway, Post Office, hair salon and shop but it is also a perfect base for very easy access to York; buses leave from the end of the road every 15 minutes, driving is super quick and easy + Riccall is even on a gorgeous cycle/walking track to York.
A combination of sleek modern with quirky vintage, 'The Snug' offers the perfect getaway. Your own private studio with its own entrance and patio, 'The Snug' has its own perfectly formed and well equipped kitchen with oven/hob, washer/dryer, welcome basket with breakfast items, including bread, butter, cereal, delicious homemade flapjack/jams, range of teas/fresh coffee/hot chocolate, along with milk/squeezed juice/bottled water in the fridge. Shampoo, conditioner and shower gel are provided in the modern bathroom, complete with powerful 'rain' shower. Freshly laundered towels, cosy bedding, blankets and robes will be ready for your arrival. Free Wifi is available throughout your stay. Choose from a variety of DVDs or Freeview is available through Amazon Fire. The kingsize sofa bed with mattress topper has been declared super-comfy by visitors to 'The Snug'. We use eco/organic products wherever possible. 'The Snug' is a chic extension to the old Station Master's House (dating back to the 1860s) where we live; the old East Coast Mainline that was behind the house is now the road to York. The cycle track (to York or Selby) is also close by and wonderful for a lovely walk/cycle ride too. Free parking and excellent access to surrounding areas, including York (which is 15 minutes by car or there is a fantastic and frequent bus service that takes you to the centre).
The village is easily accessed via the major road networks so getting here will be no problem. You can eat in (or we can recommend takeaways if desired), enjoy a meal in our village (there is a wonderfully authentic italian restaurant in a converted windmill called 'Burro'), or drive/take one of the very frequent buses into York. The Designer Outlet is en-route so it's a great opportunity for a stop-off where the shopping experience draws people from all over the country. York has an incredible wealth of things to see and do all year round, with the ancient walled centre offering more attractions per square mile than any other UK destination.
  • I booked The Snug as I was competing in a powerlifting competition in the local area and we needed a base to stay for the weekend. The snug was perfect! It had everything we needed, it was clean, cosy and warm! The welcome basket was a lovely touch and the flapjacks were just yum! The communication from claire was always really quick and super informative! Would definitely recommend staying at the snug if your in the local area! Couldn't have asked for anything better!

It was a lovely surprise having the hamper in the kitchen. Saved us a trip down to the shops to get the milk for our cuppa :) Claire is very quick to respond to messages and an excellent host. We will keep ‘the snug’ in mind for when we next come up to York. Location was beautiful too!! THANK YOU!

We will defiantly stay at the snug again. Thank you so much.

  • Couldn’t recommend it enough! Best hospitality we’ve received from air B and B. Beautiful cabin and hosts went the extra mile to keep the cabin open despite flooding which made for a unique and beautiful experience. Would recommend the full English too 😊

    Catherine2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • I just want to say a massive thank you for letting us stay in your Cabin! The flooding in the area must have been so stressful for you and I understand it's beyond your control. All the small touches in the cabin really made it special, the communication was fast and enjoyable. Despite the weather we had a perfect stay. We will definitely be back! Thank you! Mikey & Ben

  • A very nice and conveniently located place to stay. Jay is a great host, the communication with her is quick and easy. The apartment is sparkling clean. We found all the necessary amenities there. It's located a little off the center but absolutely within a walking distance. There are a few restaurants right nearby and a supermarket within a 10 min walk. Bus 66 which takes you directly to the railway station one way and the University of York campus the other way stops within a 3 min walk.

  • Lovely and clean apartment that is a short 10 minute walk away from the centre of York.

    Sadie2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing apartment in such close proximity. Amenities were great and I wouldn’t hesitate to book again! Thank you so much 😊

  • This was our first experience with AirBnB and we were so impressed! First of all the apartment was immaculate and has been beautifully designed. Also the location is perfect and a short walk down the canal takes you into the beautiful city centre of York. Thank you so much Jay, we will be sure to stay here again if we are ever in the area!

    Lara2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean and convenient for city centre.

    Christine2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and tidy apartment. Good location as well. About 15 mins walk to the city centre. Jay is thoughtful. You can find almost everything you need in the apartment. A bit confused when we first arrived York and tried to find the location tho.

    Liyuan2020-01-10T00:00:00Z
  • We booked jay’s place last minute. Despite having such short notice Jay manage to get everything sorted out smoothly. Self Check in and out was extremely easy, instructions was clear on how to get in and around. The flat is sparkling clean and spacious. Everything was perfect for a short or a long stay. Jay’s place is lovely and neat at the same time. We love the decors (she has good taste😉) Absolutely love the distance of the flat to everything we need, we literally could walk everywhere. It is very thoughtful of Jay for having the car permit ready for roadside parking close to the flat otherwise we would be so lost not sure where to park our car as we arrived almost midnight. Will definitely book again if we go back to york some day.

    Ang2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment is perfectly situated to explore York. It had all the amenities we needed and there were some nice touches like tea, coffee and nibbles to get us started.

  • We stayed here for the Viking festival. It's a small, cute, cosy space with a very comfortable double bed. Shower gel and shampoo was provided, so was some delicious tea and instant coffee. The towels were big and fluffy. The shower was great. The WiFi was good. The fridge was useful. It was warm. There's an ironing board and iron in the room. We didn't meet the hosts but they were great at communicating on the app. We would stay here again! Thank you!

Clean, tidy, warm, welcoming and wholesome. Would absolutely stay again as there were many great tips, tricks and thoughtful touches. 10/10 recommendation.

I've stayed here in the past and it was really nice to once again enjoy Joanna's thoughtful touches like fresh milk for tea and coffee, toothpaste among the toiletries-- if you're forgetful like I am! :), a comfortable mattress, and hassle-free key safe for check-in. Recommended as ever.

Pleasant, quiet B & B situated 12 miles south of York in a small village. We have 2 double and one single room for guests. We now offer evening meals with prior arrangement. Have a look at the pictures of food available. We can offer English, Spanish and Moroccan meals. Please discuss your meal requirements when booking.
Peace and quiet yet only a short distance away from the delights of the City of York. You don't have to book a minimum of 2 nights as city centre places insist and also we have a large free parking area. We welcome well behaved dogs (With prior approval) but not upstairs in the bedrooms We have a utility room where they can happily spend the night-We suggest you have a cage that the dog is familiar with, to safely sleep in.
  • Expect a beautifuly presented property. Lots of books, cosy space, and everything you might want to make your stay comfortable. Spotlessly clean and warm. Paul was attentive and breakfast really was lovely. I was on my own as I was attending a course nearby but will definitely go back with my wife as I know she will love it. Village pub wasnt serving food that night, but nearby village had a very nice pub with restaurant. I understand Paul can also prepare evening meal if arranged in advance. Probably the best AirBnB stay we have had so far. If you intend visiting York you will need a car as the house is some distance out, but don't let that put you off as the park and ride from the outlet shopping centre is very good.

Paul helped with everything from restaurant recommendations to lending me a phone charger when I forgot mine and could not have been a better host. • Neat place for short stays if you are visiting York.

    Craig2019-10-11T00:00:00Z
  • Unbeatable airbnb. Great attention to detail, impeccable and unbeatable monitoring by an owner, Hazel was sending us messages and instructions often so that we were not missing anything and made sure we had no problem. In our case we arrived very late due to the flights and the fact of arriving and finding the lights and heating on show a lot of concern for giving good attention. The environment of the house is spectacular, completely recommended.

  • Valeria’s place is more than amazing. The flat is beautiful, the design is fantastic, the beds are comfy, the rooms are large. Jamie and Valeria are wonderful, Jamie came and picked us up at York, he drove us back in the morning. We had a fantastic giant breakfast with one of the nicest caffe ever. I recommend this magical place to everyone. It is really amazing.

  • Perfect place to stay if visiting York or York designer outlet. Literally a short drive to the designer outlet, which you can then hop on a park and ride bus for £3 per person with free parking! - The place itself was clean and tastefully decorated. My bed even had Calvin Klein bed sheets on, nice touch! Also the coffee and patisserie place bellow is to die for - amazing coffee and treats. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again and hopefully will in the future. Thanks again! 💙
