Places to stay in Arigna

Places to stay in Arigna
Welcome to this tastefully restored pre-famine cottage. Located in the scenic Arigna Valley, this house is perfect for those seeking to experience traditional Ireland in a rural setting. Close to Drumshanbo, Sligo, Carrick 0n Shannon and Arigna; there are numerous historical attractions and walking trails at the doorstep. Have a drink at the Miner's Bar in Arigna, enjoy a 5 star meal at Kilronan Castle, or attend one of many traditional music festivals in the area. Take a step back in time.
There are not many traditional cottages left in Ireland. This cottage is recently renovated with modern conveniences including central heating, 3 fireplaces, dishwasher, and washing machine. A complete break from urban living, guests can rediscover the stars and silence at night while the open fire glows within the walls of the house. In the morning open the half door and take in the sights and smells of the ancient Arigna valley. The local area is perfect for hillwalkers with 500 km of marked trails. The Miner's Way trails are the footpaths that local miners would take to get to work. After the closure of the mines in 1990 a museum was established where retired miner's conduct tours for visitors. Up the road in Ballyfarnon is the beautifully restored Kilronan Castle. The village of Keadue and town of Drumshanbo are close by and the drive to both will provide breathtaking views of Lough Alan. The Arigna valley is a mystical place with evidence of habitation and early farming from megalithic and neolithic times. Nowhere is this history so ingrained in the landscape as in the Arigna Valley area.
The house is approx. 4 miles from Arigna village. The village store has basic food for sale however, Drumshanbo and Carrick on Shannon have much larger shops and greater variety of food. The Miner's Bar in Arigna is welcoming and provides a chance to interact with local farmers and others. There are music nights there and often impromptu sing songs.
  • Lovely cottage off the beaten track. Will come back again..

  • Remote cottage, which is what we expected, but very stylish and comfortable.

  • This was my 2nd stay at Wendy's place. It's still the most perfect place to stay to experience the Arigna area. Its rustic, peaceful and tranquil nestled in the countryside with spectacular trails within walking distance from the house.

  • This was my all-time favorite Air Bnb stay, and I will DEFINITELY look into staying here again next time I'm in the Roscommon/Leitrim area. The home was cozy and had everything we needed. Patricia (who cares for the property when Wendy is away) was so responsive and helpful whenever we needed anything. We loved having a dishwasher and laundry on site, and enjoyed evening peat fires in the living room. The gorgeous views on the drive to and from the cottage made the stay simply magical. Thank you for everything! We were so sad to leave.

  • Three good!

    Alfred2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Wendy's place is a peaceful haven and will appeal to artists and those who appreciate the sound of silence. There is much for the walker to explore. The geology of the Arigna area provided coal for hundreds of years leaving amateur industrial archaeologists a seam to mine.

  • Great place, loved every minute of it. So peaceful! If you want a place to relax and go for walks, this is the place! Highly recommend, will be back!

  • A beautiful, cosy little cottage, in a lovely rural area. Wonderful hospitality. The house was really warm and well-equipped, and full of character. Kids and I loved every minute!

This lovingly restored one-hundred-year-old farm house is a perfect spot for people who want to to get away from it all in a relaxing rural setting. It is situated in the countryside near the Leitrim -Roscommon border and is a perfect base for exploring the local areas of Drumbshambo, Carrick-on Shannon, and Sligo
It has been used by our family and some of our musician /artist friends over the last 10 years as a place to take time out. We finally came around to the idea that we should share the space with other people that would appreciate it.We put a lot of love into this house. Music - We have kitted it out the main living room with a top of the range sound system that has a mini-jack for phone and laptop connections. There is also a cd and record player. We have left a selection of CDs and Vinyl for your pleasure. Real fireplace - The house has got a 20kw output multifuel double sided glass front stove that heats both kitchen and living room at the same time. Bathroom - The bathroom has a very large Victorian bath tub placed in the centre of the room that is amazing for relaxing. It also has a fireplace you can light and watch while bathing. Movies - The house has a 60inch TV in the living room with a selection of movies to watch. Cooking - We have a passion for cooking, the house is fitted with a 5 ring gas hob and electric oven and all the good quality cooking equipment required for a dinner party.
The house is situated half a mile from the local village Arigna. Arigna is a village steeped in mining tradition and has a local shop for your basic food supplies and a pub ( the miners bar ) that is full of colourful local characters. Arigna is a picturesque village in North Roscommon set in the green valley of the Arigna River alongside Lough Allen. Situated between Sliabh an Iarann (Iron Mountain) in the East, Kilronan Mountain in the West and Corrie Mountain to the north and has beautiful scenery and unspoiled rugged landscapes.
  • My wife and I loved our stay in Nigel's place! The house was stylish, cosy and spotlessly clean and had everything that we needed, allowing us to enjoy a few relaxing nights away. Highly recommended!

  • Hello This house is really very warm. The decoration and the atypical style have enchanted us. The cleanliness is at the top, nothing is missing everything is in sufficient quantity.

    Veronique2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful accommodation in a lovely location, first class. Nigel was really easy to contact and to deal with and very helpful. I would highly recommend this accommodation.

  • Lovely cozy cottage, you can easily spend all day long inside enjoying the music collection and the fireplaces. It’s warm, with comfortable beds and a well equipped kitchen. If you are looking for a quiet place to wind down don’t look any further

    Chiara2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space, lovely as the photos are I’m not sure that they could ever do it justice. Though it’s incredibly well designed - with every amenity - it still has real heart - no cold minimalism. We had a lovely relaxing time and some of the best sleep we’ve had when away! Good pressure in the showers - always important - and good communication from Nigel. We hope to be back!

  • I just stayed in Margaret's cottage. It was self check in which was great as I wasn't under any pressure for time to meet someone there. It is a lovely, quiet spot with everything you could need. The new onsite bedroom was where I stayed and so warm and cosy. This home is super clean too. Margaret is the most amazing host, with great contact, kind touches and a great heart. There was milk and orange juice left for me and the hearing was set so it was lovely to arrive to the warmth. I couldn't recommend this little place enough and the kindness of the host. Lorraine, March 2020.

    Lorraine2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Margarets house is very nicely restored and sparkling clean. Homely comfortable and toasty warm, it was our perfect Christmas getaway. Set in an acre of grounds tucked in behind some forestry, it is so peaceful and quiet without feeling isolated. There is a neighbouring house that doesn't impinge in any way. Close to Keadue village with a lovely pub shop church and woodland lakeside walk. Loads of walks and things to do in the area. This is the perfect home from home and has everything you need for a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is now a second bedroom and ensuite. Fabulous. Many thanks for sharing your wonderful space with us and for all of the thoughtful touches.

  • Philips place is a separate part of their beautiful house in its own quiet grounds off the canal towpath. You need a car to reach it but we walked into the Leitrim village and did some great walks with our dog along the canal towpath. The apartment was well equipped and stylish. Our hosts were very attentive and helpful. We had some problems finding it as our satnav gave us the wrong location for the postcode but Philip directed us. All in all a great, relaxing stay with hospitable people in a stunningly beautiful location.

  • I had a great stay at Catherine's place this weekend :) Catherine was really lovely & accommodating, it wasn't a problem at all that I requested a very late check-in. The room itself was spacious & comfortable and the location was very handy for where I was coming from {Kilronan Castle}.

  • Catherine is an excellent host who was very patient when my sat-nav directed me to the next town and she had to talk me back to her house at 11:30 at night! Thank you Catherine and your family for a wonderful breakfast and chat. It was a lovely way to wake up after a great nights sleep. And a great start to a long days driving!

    Tom2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • Catherine was very patient with me before I arrived when I was trying to rearrange my dates. I changed them back and forth a few times on the actual day of arrival and Catherine worked with me to sort it out to my satisfaction which was very much appreciated. When I came in one day with wet gear and needed to go back out in an hour Catherine was very helpful and dried them in her dryer for me. The accommodation itself was perfect, en suite. Very clean and comfortable. A few minutes walk from town. I would recommend Catherine’s accommodation for sure and if I was ever back in the area I would use it myself.

The food left out for us was also great to have including eggs, sausages, bacon, milk, yoghurts and bread. We wanted for nothing!! We would highly recommend Sinead’s accommodation for a great stay. • We had a very pleasant stay at Sinead's one-bedroom house in Roscommon. The house is modern and super clean and tidy. Sinead provided a range of breakfasts including bacon, sausages, eggs, bread, cereals and even strawberries! The kitchen facilities are excellent, Sinead's communications were very prompt, and the house has fine views across the countryside. Will happily stay there again!

  • Sinead’s home was just what we needed on our stop between Cavan and Westport for the night. Beautiful scenery and a peaceful spot for a wonderful nights sleep. Sinead was very quick at responding and couldn’t have been more helpful. The warm, Irish welcome was just lovely and the breakfast bits left in the fridge were a thoughtful added touch. Thank you for a wonderful stay Sinead!

  • Excellent stay with Sinead ! A lovely private apartment with loads of space, fresh clean bedding/towels etc. Sinead is an excellent friendly host who couldnt do any more for us! From leaving us to join the wedding party at kilronan castle and ensuring we had a safe way back! A stocked fridge of milk, breakfast items & water - we couldn't have asked for better! Would definitely recommend!

  • Thanks again for being a wonderful host. Excellent location for peace and quiet yet just a short drive takes your to local villages with loads to explore nearby. • Perfect spacious house in an excellent location. Sheila was a lovely host, very helpful & accommodating. Her bread was delicious too! The beds were very comfortable & the outside seating area was lovely & peaceful. Drumshanbo is a great base for walks & cycles in the area. We rented bikes from Tadhg in Morans in the town, another very pleasant Leitrim person :) Thanks Sheila for making our stay in lovely Leitrim so enjoyable!

  • We’ve just come back from a stay at Sheila’s place in Drumshanbo and would highly recommend it. Sheila’s house is perfectly clean with plenty of space for a family of five and fully equipped with all the expected essentials. Sheila had also baked a delicious fresh brown bread loaf which went down a treat. Her house is in a perfect location...about 50m from a great wee Irish pub, a lovely takeaway pizzeria and a small supermarket. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool about 1km away which was great fun for the kids...all in all a great week spent in Drumshanbo 😄😃

It really was a home from home experience, it's was well equipped with everything we needed and more. • This place has 2 beautiful rooms with lovely comfortable double beds, views of the lake, private and quiet. There’s also a room with kids beds. The bathrooms, everything, very clean and nice. The hosts are friendly, accommodating and dedicated.

  • I was staying at Martina's place for one day only. The house is very welcoming so, is the owner. Martina is friendly, chatty and helpful person. She gave me a few suggestion for places to go and see. I would definitely recommend her place to stay.

  • Great place in beautiful location!

    Alejandro2018-08-12T00:00:00Z
  • Martina is a very kind person. I really enjoyed the discussion with her. The house is big, provides a lot space and was very clean. Supplies were at their place. A very nice on-top-feature was the water dispenser integrated in the refrigerator.

    Philipp2018-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • This was a home stay, and it is sometimes hard to know what to expect. The room I stayed in was spacious and clean with a very nice en-suite (toilet, sink, shower) and I had access to the kitchen. Martina was very friendly and was quick to get back to my enquiries. The location of this house really sets it apart - it's handy for Drumshambo and Dowra but it feels incredibly tranquil with stunning views of Lough Allen and it is surrounded by its own wildflower meadow! Google was not 100% sure which house was hers, though, so make sure you get good directions. I would recommend Martina's house.

  • The accommodation in Geevagh is absolutely stunning. It is well decorated , warm and comfortable. The view would have been amazing if the Irish weather hadn't seen fot to obscure it with mist :-) The location is rural/remote, but is perfect for anyone wanting to explore the Sligo/Leitrim area. It's a 15 minute drive to Castle Dargan Estate/ Hotel and about the same to Dromahaire (in Co. Leitrim). Eamonn was a perfect host. He answered all my questions promptly and had the fire lit and the Christmas ligts on when we arrived.....which was a lovely touch, as we arrived in the evening. The rooms are all big, so plenty of room for a family/group. If you need somewhere to stay in this area, do yourself a favour and contact Eamonn.....you won't be disappointed. I know I'll be doing that the next time I need to stay in the area.

  • A perfect traditional Irish cottage, at the end of a little driveway with grass up the middle! Cosy, thoughtfully decorated, peaceful location, yet close to many hidden gems, walking trails, restaurants, scenic drives & places to visit. We were welcomed by Paul on a dark damp evening with the fire lit & heating on, the lights on, fresh bread on the counter and a stocked fridge & larder! There was plenty of firewood, board games for the children & a beautiful garden for us to explore....pity about the rain, or we’d have sat out on the deck to enjoy a morning coffee at every opportunity! Thank you Paul. Your place is a sanctuary! A perfect escape from a busy life🙏🏻

The surroundings are fab and a great folder of information of things to do in the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend Carrowkeel. Paul also left some bread and milk etc and the house is well stocked with cooking bits ie salt, pepper etc. Also when it came to cooking there wasn't anything missing. Paul was quick to respond and helpful when my Google maps gave up on me! I would definitely recommend!

  • We had a pleasant stay in the Irish Lakeland’s. Mariana chalet is clean and compact and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay

  • Marian's wood cabin is very nice inside and in very quiet location. A great place to relax or to get some work done. You can hear the birds singing at dawn in the gardens around the chalet. Shay

  • Very beautiful place in the country side, close to the lake. It’s a place to come down and enjoy nature. Nice kitchen, cozy leaving room with a fireplace inside to enjoy. The owners are also very friendly and helpful. If you need a stay out of civilization, thats the perfect place!

    Simone2018-04-02T00:00:00Z
  • We were very well welcomed and had a great time at Marian's chalet! Many things to do in the surroundings. We recommand heartly the place!

    Martin2017-08-18T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is in a beautiful location with lovely lawns and woods on three sides and the host's home on the fourth - so if you need anything your hosts are close at hand. We brought bikes to explore the little local roads, which turned out to be really quiet and really hilly. The cars we did encounter were very carefully and considerately driven. The kids loved meeting the local sheep, cows, horses and hares. There is great peace and quiet. The cabin is located between Lough Key and Lough Arrow, both of which are stunning. A great trip!

    Elizabeth2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here with a small baby and had everything we could need. It was very secluded and peaceful. Marian and family were very welcoming and helpful.

    Louise2017-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin is spacious and airy and it's lovely watching the birds and wildlife from here. We saw a hare leaping past the window the morning we were leaving which felt very special.

    Bev2017-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We very much enjoyed our stay! If you are looking for somewhere private, cosy but not too fancy in the heart of the country, near loughs and woodland, then this is for you.

  • We had a lovely 2 night stay in number 12. Great house in perfect location. The house was immaculate and Joanne had left some lovely treats which were much appreciated. Kids loved the toys and books. The house is equipped with everything you could ever need. Only a short walk to Leitrim village which has some lovely pubs and restaurants and a shop. only a short drive to Carrick-on-Shannon and Drumshanbo where you can visit acres lake and the floating boardwalk. Thanks again!

  • Great hostess, would definitely recommend. We had friends in Carrick-on-Shannon & stayed here as only a short distance away. We were delighted with it, plenty of space for our kids.

    Elaine2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay in Joanne's home. It was gorgeously decorated, and extremely spacious but still cosy for the whole family to enjoy, including infants. It was very family friendly and kid safe, and the children loved the bunk bed room! It was a lovely way for us all to sit together while having breakfast and dinners. The local village was close by and it wasnt far from Carrick-On-Shannon. There was lots to do and Joanne had provided lots of leaflets on what there was in the area which was extremely helpful! The garden and surrounding street was safe for the kids to play in and they had a great time doing so. The kitchen was fully equipped even with some condiments in the fridge such as butter, milk and jams! Very thoughtful! Thank you so much for letting us stay Joanne. We would highly recommend for big groups and families with small children!

    Monisa2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • This was our first stop on our trip around Ireland. My husband and I and our 4 kids were greeted by Joanne who showed us around and even left us with fresh scones tea and something nice for the kids which was exactly what we needed after a 6 hour journey. It was so homely and Joanne was great ringing to check we were ok and if we needed any suggestions where to eat bring the kids etc ... we highly recommend this place it was our first stop of our journey and I think we were spoilt. Little amenities were there like shower gels, tables to wash, milk etc... these things you don’t want to think about on your first night away. The location was perfect a lot to do around for couples and families. There’s no doubt everyone who stays here will enjoy it as much as we did. We will defiantly be back again to this lovely part of the country.

  • Abbasamma is a wonderful, quiet, beautiful place to stay. Claire is an exceptional hostess. When I arrived I got lost and she actually hopped in her car to come and find me! Everything was clean and comfortable. She even made scones and had the fire on so I was warm & cozy when I arrived. I am on my way back for a longer stay in just a few weeks!

  • An amazing long weekend in a beautiful house with fantastic views...what more can you ask for. House was stunning, had everything we needed. There was even scones when we arrived which went down a treat! Thanks again to Claire, maura and David.

  • Claire was waiting for us with a roaring fire lit in the kitchen, fresh scones and a warm welcome when we arrived at Abbasamma. What a wonderful place - there is stone carpet and underfloor heating throughout, and we were so cosy! My parents had the master suite downstairs, while my brother, sister-in-law, nephew, sister and I took over the top floor, and we had the most wonderful, comfortable stay. Claire also checked in with us throughout our stay to see if we needed anything, and was so helpful. I would happily stay here again! (Thanks Claire!)

  • A warm welcome from the start to the end everything you could want . We all found it hard to get up as the beds were so comfy, but sitting around the large dining table with the wood burner going made getting up even more enjoyable. Thanks Claire we will be back .

    Phillip2018-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Abbasamma was one of our favorite stays during our trip! We were greeted by Claire's father, who had a fire lit and everything warmed up and homey. I wish we had more time to stay there because it was absolutely lovely! Our favorite things about the house were the heated floors throughout the home, comfy beds, the welcome basket, and the packet of info about the house and the surrounding areas. We got in fairly late, so it was nice to have suggested places to go for dinner. Would highly recommend Claire's house to anyone! Thanks again for the wonderful time - you were great!

    Lauren2018-09-17T00:00:00Z

The house itself is really lovely and clean with everything you need for a stress free stay. Would defo recommend staying here and I will be if I return to the area. Thanks again for the late check out!

  • Grainne’s place was perfect, we had a wedding at Kilronan Castle and it was a perfect place to base ourselves. The view is outstanding!!

    Tom2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Grainne could not have done more or helped more. Taxi numbers were left for us. Extra bed was put up for us. It was like having our own personal assistant looking after every need. It was indeed a home away from home.

    Josie2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • House extremely clean. Every guest has many towels. Clean and lush linen on the beds which were carefully dressed up. Huge kitchen and dining area and also quite a large laundry room. There is an abundance of kitchen utensils - this kitchen is stocked out like your own home and with good quality equipment. Dishwasher and washing machine. TV and also WIFI. It is in a lovely location. I walked from the house to he village of Ballyfarnon on the narrow country lane - a perfect way to start your day. It is also walk-able to Kilronan Castle - I did this myself. The first half to the village is gorgeous and safe. The 2nd half beyond the village is on road with no footpath. Definitely not walkable at night. However it was easier than expected to get a taxi from Kilronan Castle to this house - the reception in the castle will book this for you (I got a taxi at 4am !!!).

An affordable, decent-sized triple room in a quaint country cottage on a quiet lane. The room has a double and single bed. Guests have use of a fully fitted kitchen, living room, patio and garden and sole use of a full bathroom. Tea, coffee, water, bed linen and towels are provided in the room. The house has central heating and a homely open fire. This is the only room for guests and there would only ever be one other person, myself, at the house when guests are there.
I work as an actor and writer/director. I am often away working, and if I am, the guests would have use of the whole house. I am able to arrange for guests to check in themselves. When I'm at the house, I'd be working in my own private office, and guests would have full use of the house. The guests would be very much left to their own devices but I'm on hand for any advice and to drop guests into the town or village. There is cereal, bread and tea and coffee that guests can help themselves to in the morning. For guests arriving by bus or train, I would usually be able to provide a pick-up and drop-back service from Carrick-on-Shannon or Boyle bus stop or train station, if using public transport.
The house is situated on a very quiet lane approximately 3km outside Leitrim Village. The area is surrounded by beautiful scenic walks. A newly opened Shannon Blueway running from Leitrim Village to the beautiful town of Drumshanbo is only a 10 minute walk away. It's only a short walk to a lovely bar/restaurant at the end of the lane the house is on. It's possible to have a nice meal, couple glasses of wine and be able to drive back up the laneway, no problem- the lane goes around in a horseshoe loop to a main road so doesn't lead anywhere as such so is completely devoid of traffic 99.9% of the time! The whole area is perfect for the fitness enthusiast, with it's abundance of lush greenery, but is only a short distance from the quaint Leitrim Village with it's canal and pubs/restaurants and the bustling towns of Carrick- on- Shannon and Boyle, both of which boast all the amenities of a modern Irish town.
  • Great place to stay! Clean, comfortable & friendly neighbours. Quite & peaceful, with plenty of space, yet only a few minutes drive from the local village. Unfortunately we didn’t get to meet Gary, but he was great with communication and made everything very easy for us.

  • The Ark is an amazing place to spend a few days relaxing by the water. It feels very much like a fantastic little apartment on the waters edge. Great local amenities also right on your doorstep mean you can chill all day on the Ark, then stroll up for your lunch and a drink. The place was spotlessly clean, well kitted out and even has a superb shower (which is quite an achievement for something that floats) 10/10 - Would stay again!

  • A beautifully made home. Lovely location with lots to do nearby. Paddy was welcoming and always happy to help. Would definitely recommend and hope to be back!

  • We stayed here for a weekend and wish we didn’t have to leave. It was such an incredible experience waking up to the sounds of the river and the birds. Paddy was the most amazing host and a true gentlemen. He had great tips for the area and offered to help us with anything that we needed. The house was spectacular, clean, comfy and brilliantly designed (by Paddy!). The views and scenery are beyond words, we could have sat outside just watching the world go by for the whole weekend. We can’t wait to get back and have already thought about when we can come back to visit. Thank you so much again Paddy, it was amazing. Aisling and Greg.

  • Paddy is a great host, the place is amazing, definitely recommend!

  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Accommodation ! If it’s the gentle lapping of water complimented by the distant din of chattering birds; then The Ark is the place to book ! Spotlessly clean. Generous space in both the en-suite bedrooms. An ample sized living space with a fully equipped kitchen. . . And if that’s not enough, head out side and choose from not one but two verandas, over two levels ! We’re a family of four and we’ll be back next year for a longer stay. Lough Key Forest Park is only 10 mins away in the car- the children were spoiled for choice with the activities there. . . Well done Paddy on delivering such a streamline, homely, clean and excellently placed floating home and for sharing it with others ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Host ! Thanks Paddy !

  • 'The Ark' is a fantastic unusual property. The pictures of look great but the reality is even better. It is small but perfectly formed. It was perfect for our small family of mum,dad and 2 kids (10) and (12). The property is literally right on the water so it may not necessarily be ideal with much younger kids. Paddy was the perfect host, he was there to greet us, was always readily available should we need him but respecting our privacy and left us alone to enjoy our time on the ark. The weather was not the best while we were there so it was a pity we did not get to enjoy the outdoor space more, however, the fact the property is so comfortable and well equipped , we were more the happy to chill out indoors and watch the shannon cruisers go by! The kitchen /cooking facilities were perfect and we had absolutely everything we needed to cook dinners. Location is very quiet so is ideal for relaxing and getting away from it all. Plenty to do within driving distance of accommodation, we went to Strandhill , Sligo one of the days and the kids loved playing on the very steep sand dunes. We went to Zipit in Lough Key Forest park which is about a 10 minute drive away, great active day...great activity for our age kids. Also went to Arigna mines on a very very wet day, maybe not the most exciting thing you'll ever do but I'd still recommend it. It was interesting, the guide was an ex miner. Also always like to support local tourism when visiting a new area. I would highly recommend this property and most certainly hope to be back!!

  • This floating boat house offers a very unique experience, one that we would highly recommend. The space is ingenious and the location is perfect for a relaxing few days. If you ever need to unwind or recover, this is the place to do it. Paddy is the mastermind behind the design and the build and he is an absolute gentlemen.

  • I had such a nice weekend at Martina's, the location of the house is perfect to discover this part of Ireland (20min from the stairway to heaven for exemple). The house is very peaceful and quite, Martina and her husband are always here to give good advice. Definitely recommend to anyone to go there.

This beautiful house overlooks Lough Key & Forest and Activity Park. Our games room has snooker and table tennis. A nature trail leads down from the house to the shore of the lake. Wild deer & rabbits roam the fields and horses and Donkeys live by the house. The living area is on the first floor and so the views over the lake are beautiful. We organise speed boat trips around the lake and longer trips up the river to Carrick on Shannon. Best Fishing lakes and rivers in the country.
The house has exceptional views over Lough Key. It has its a private lake shore frontage which you can use for fishing, or enjoy with the animals, or paddle. At the property there are several fields to roam in. The house is hugely spacious and bright with the living area on the first floor to appreciate the views over the Lough Key and surrounding countryside. When you arrive there will be a welcome pack of Tea, Coffee, Milk and Biscuits, Bottle of Wine and fresh flowers. There will be logs for the sitting room open fire which is more for enjoyment that necessity as the underfloor heating works wonderfully. Unlimited Wifi free of charge
Lough Key itself and the surrounding landscape is beautiful. It is the best of rural west of Ireland and mostly unspoiled countryside. The area has many lakes and rivers, indeed the area is noted for great fishing and for many years has been a popular destination for anglers from Britain and France. The Arigna Mines are close by and It's Energy Centre provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like in the Arigna Valley, since its beginning in the 1700's until closure in 1990.
  • lovely, super quiet, nice house I recommend

  • An absolutely fantastic property in a scenic area, right on the shores of Lough Key. The views from the house are amazing. The kids spent most of the time playing pool in the Games Room. Rose is the perfect host offering tips for things to do locally. Totally recommend this place for a few days relaxation away from it all.

The Farmhouse, an entire let, is new to Airbnb from “Super Hosts” Paul & Oona, Strand House, Streedagh. Nestled beside a woodland, close to lake fishing, zip wires, country lanes for cycling or walking, mountain climbs, horse riding, yoga, painting, shopping, surfing within 40 minutes, Arigna mining experience and fine dining at St Georges Terrace, 17 minutes away, this charming house is the ideal spring board for a couple, friends or family to enjoy unspoiled time away in the countryside.
The Farmhouse has two, adjoining bedrooms. One with a king sized bed and a single and the other has a queen size bed. The two sitting rooms are both south facing and the 'half' kitchen door opens onto a patio and south facing back garden. The orchard is in full bloom during the summer months. Guests staying at The Farmhouse will have use of the kitchen.
The Farmhouse is set in a quiet residential area, close to an amazing array of adventures and activities. There are fantastic restaurants just minutes away and some top class restaurants 7 minutes away in Boyle or Carrick-on-Shannon.
  • Paul’s cottage is a great place to get away from the madness of life! It is beautifully decorated and relaxing to be in. The bedrooms were pretty and warm. The garden was a secret haven for our little one and the bee hives an extra treat! Also a perfect place to watch the stars!

  • Had a lovely stay at Paul and Oona's farmhouse. The house was absolutly gorgeous and so cosy with a beautiful garden : just a lovely quiet peaceful place to hang out in .Paul and Oona were great , very easily contactable and were very thoughtful hosts. Cereal, milk, eggs, in fridge and fire briquettes and logs left for fire on arrival . Great big aga stove in kitchen which was very easy to use and made the house so cosy and warm . Beautiful walks all around on quiet country roads and surrounding woodlands . Close to Tthe Arigna Mines, Carrowkeel passage graves, Lough Key forest Park, where I saw three red squirrels !! I would highly recommend this farmhouse as an ideal getaway for anyone looking for a bit of peace and quiet !! Thanks Paul and Oona for such a lovely stay. ! I thoroughly enjoyed it !

  • Simply spectacular! We had the whole place to ourselves and it is a beautiful and comfortable, homey place. We did not want to leave. I highly recommend this place. It is idyllic and beautiful with spectacular gardens and surrounding areas. We took many, many walks in the morning and afternoon beauty. It was so peaceful and serene. It was exactly what we needed in the middle of our trip. As it is so close to so many attractions as well, it could be an entire trip on its own. Just stay here! 😊 Paul, our host was so helpful, and left us some groceries as well as fresh bread. It was quite lovely. This place was our absolute favorite on our entire trip. ☘

    Jane2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Oona's house is incredible. A phenomenal deal for the price. A romantic 200 year old cottage about 2 minutes from the gorgeous Lough Key. The cottage has all the modern amenities but they have retained the rustic old world charm. The interior decor and furniture is just gorgeous. The garden and patio seating area are stunning. This is the second time my husband and I have stayed there and we will be back.

    Rachel2019-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at the farmhouse is ideal for those looking to escape and breathe the country air. Paul and Oona are wonderful hosts, friendly, accommodating and pay much attention to small details that made our trip one to remember. Thanks again. :-)

  • Such a beautiful and cosy house! Would highly recommend 😊

    Emma2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my partner enjoyed a 4 night stay at Paul and Oona’s farmhouse. To say our stay was amazing is an understatement, everything was perfect from start to finish. The house itself has an elegant and serene atmosphere, the surrounding area is quiet and calm with beautiful trails and walks to enjoy right on your doorstep. I don’t think a single car drove by the farmhouse throughout our stay which is testament to how peaceful the location is. Paul met us on arrival and showed us around the house, he was good enough to have the fire lit and the house cosy for us. Oona and Paul were easy to contact throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this magical farmhouse for anyone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and to enjoy nature. We will definitely be back :)

  • We had a very relaxing time here. If you want a chill out space with peace and tranquility, this is the perfect place for you. The space is very modern yet has a real sense of heritage and history which blends really well. The walks around the house are lovely to include lots of woodland. We felt like we were away on an autumnal retreat. Great taxi service door to door available and reasonably priced for Carrick on Shannon. Only ten minutes drive to Boyle with nice takeaways. We were made feel very welcome and the hosts were very responsive. Overall this place did exactly what it said on the “tin” and much more. Looking forward to going back soon.

Leitrim Village is a small village about 5km from Carrick on Shannon. It has an hotel, chinese restuarant, Garage/shop and several pubs for good food/drink. The erne waterway meets the shannon and from balcony can view the boats. This beautiful apartment has a lift and is therefore suitable for disabled. (There is a roof garden reached via a spiral staircase and this part is not suitable for disabled). Sorry but 7 nights minimum booking.
Please note there is a 2 Night minimum stay. The living room is very large and has one wall of glass (including two glass doors) which lead onto balcony where there is a patio suite. It lets in a lot of heat in morning when sun shines on balcony and it is very enjoyable having breakfast on the balcony and watch the boats.
Small friendly village which is safe and quiet. It is nice to be able to walk a few hundred yards without car and enjoy a drink in local pub and also enjoy good food in pubs.

  • This is a lovely spacious apartment located on the marina in Leitrim Village. There are restaurants and pubs very close by. There is only one shop and petrol station which stocks the basic essentials. I would suggest doing a large shopping in one of the larger towns. There is a lovely walk by the canal which can be accessed in under than a mile. Lots of outdoor activities in the leitrim area.. Lovely scenic part of the county.
