Women-only Retreat House, Close to Kamikochi NP

AnnettRating, 5 stars1 week ago
I came to stay after a busy conference week in Osaka and Kyoto, and this place was exactly what I needed. The environment was quiet and very relaxing. The room has lots of space and the house has a beautiful, thoughtfully designed interior. I especially enjoyed the nice view from the room. Yoko was incredibly kind and helpful — she picked me up and even dropped me off early in the morning so I could catch my bus to Kamikochi for hiking. I was also able to store my luggage there during the day, and after returning from Kamikochi, she even drove me from the bus to the train station. That level of hospitality really made a difference and made me feel very welcome. Highly recommended!

I stayed with 6 people. We had a very good time checking in and checking out smoothly. The place was also close to the station, which was a car this time, but there was plenty of parking and very accessible. If you get another chance, thank you!

TC1 OPEN SALE Tomo's Cafe Annex with staff

太一Rating, 5 stars1 month ago
It was a guest house made by renovating a detached house. The first floor was a cafe-like space, and there was a large room to stay on the second floor. This room has 2 double beds and a sofa set.I was the only guest on the day I stayed, so I used the entire first and second floors. The bath and toilet were new and clean. The manager (the owner's mother) lives in a separate room, and I was relieved that she came immediately when I pressed the buzzer. It was close to the station, and it was nice to have a tavern nearby that served horse meat and local sake.I was traveling alone on a bike and stayed here after riding the Venus Line, a famous touring course in Nagano. There was also a free parking lot right next to this facility. The outdoor parking lot was not paved, so I laid a flat stone under the bike stand and used it.I had no problem at all.The manager was very kind and made various arrangements, which was very helpful.

Thank you very much. Both couples were very kind and learned a lot about hospitality. My mistake made the mistake of picking me up at the wrong station, but they were flexible. The food is really delicious and the service is great.😳 Thank you very much!

Traditional Japanese style room with garden view

SophieRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Our stay with Masa, Yoki and Yusuke in Ena was one of the most special and memorable experiences we’ve ever had travelling. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed not just as guests, but as friends. The warmth and kindness that Masa, Yoki and Yusuke showed us went far beyond anything we expected. They took the time to truly get to know us, share stories, and made us feel like part of their home and their lives. We had such a special time with them, which we will always remember. The house itself was beautiful— a newly renovated space which has been impeccably designed, was peaceful and immaculately clean. Every detail was thoughtful, and the traditional touches gave us a deeper appreciation for Japanese culture. The breakfast prepared by Yoki was incredibly yummy and we looked forward to it every morning 🥰. The house is located walking distance from the train station in Ena. We found Ena had great local restaurants and was in the perfect spot to access the Nakasendo trail.

Thank you Machiko for hosting us and sharing tips on where to catch a great view of Mount Fuji. The view was amazing, and we also got to walk around the village to see some cultural places. Machiko also explained all the house rules well, and since it is a rather old house, there are some things to take note of like the water heater. She let us used to kitchen to make meals too, appreciate it! Her cat is super friendly too. Loved the overall vibe of staying there!

My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at Wakana's for a few nights. The rooms show signs of time (as it says in the description) but it is clean. There was everything we needed including delicious food <3. It was cozy and thanks to the kindness of the owners we felt very well taken care of. We would love to come back to this place again and we recommend it.

It was a very beautiful hostel. The view from the window was also good and the atmosphere was calm. However, the owner was not available when I checked in, and even if I asked the employee, I waited for a moment. It is a bit disappointing that we had to wait about 30 minutes for check-in.

Wadano Gateway: Family Suite, Apt + Breakfast

EricRating, 5 stars2 months ago
A very nice unit for a late season, middle of the week ski trip...very clean and functional with shoji walls making its conversion into a 2 bedroom unit easy. The best thing was the free shuttle service allowing us multiple stops to pick up skis from one place and go to areas with better snow. Its not a bad walk from the bus station and there are several restaurants nearby within easy walking distance...breakfast in the morning is a traditional Japanese one and fantastic with all you can eat cereals, breads, croissants, and coffee, milk and juice. The bar was not open when we were there, but it was still nice to have pool and foosball as evening entertainment. We were not hear during the peak season, but it was a fantastic stay when we were here!
A well-lit bedroom features warm wooden paneling and two comfortable chairs positioned near a small table. The spacious bed is dressed with soft bedding and flanked by bedside lamps. Light filters through sheer curtains, creating a cozy atmosphere.

Hakuba Bear's Lodge: King Room Cross-Country

MichaelRating, 5 stars3 months ago
My wife and I stayed at Bears lodge for our ski trip to Hakuba and had a really great experience. Everyone was incredibly friendly and happy to help with anything we needed. They went above and beyond picking us up and dropping us off at the bus terminal on arrival and departure. I would describe this home as a bed and breakfast style stay. You will be around others in closer proximity than you would a hotel but everyone is separated for their privacy with lockable rooms and plenty of space (considering you’re in Japan). We also used the TA-Q-BIN delivery service to send our skis which they graciously accepted before our arrival and had them waiting for us in our room. The lodge is also very conveniently located in the center of echoland with plenty of walkable restaurants and bars around as well as in very close proximity to the bus stops that pick you up and drop you off right at the base of whichever mountain you are looking to ski that day. There’s also a secure dry room for skis.

Seong Mi and Yoshi are the best ! They really take care of their hostel as well as their hosts. They gave me plenty of recommendations and advices. They also made sure I had everything I needed. I felt very welcoming here ! The room is perfect for a stay in Yudanaka. Their partnerships with Onsens around are a great way to enjoy different baths. In my opinion, it's even better than having their own Onsen inside the hostel. All the shared spaces are clean and well furnished. It's the perfect place to enjoy a traditional woodhouse. The location is also great, close by foot to the convenience store, drugstore, local restaurants and to the train station / bus hub. It makes it easy to go to any major spot in the area, from Nagano city center to the hiking trails / ski centers of Shiga Kogen. Just book it here and enjoy a peaceful time in Yudanaka 🙏

They can also drive you to the restaurants in Akakura town. You can even order dinner in and the food was delicious! I would stay here again if I was visiting the area in the future.

Great place and one of the friendliest host in Japan, would definitely visit again during Fall as the foliage would be breath taking. Be aware that if you don't have a car the closest grocery place is a convenient store and not a supermarket in case you want to make use of the kitchen.
