House vacation rentals in Mount Desert Island

The house was perfect for us. Very clean and organized. Great host always responded in a timely manner. Was only about a 30 to 40 minute drive to Acadia National Park & Bar harbor, depending on traffic it could take longer. If we ever make it back to Maine I would definitely stay at the Higgins Retreat again. Thanks again Richard & Tina.

We had a wonderful stay at John’s place, house was clean, comfortable, and stocked with everything we needed for a month stay. Private and beautiful surroundings, responsive and friendly host, and a great location to explore Maine and the upper east coast. Memories to last a lifetime! Would recommend anyone wanting to enjoy to coast of Maine to stay here and have a great time, so much to see and do. Thanks for sharing your home with us!

My return visit to the Boathouse was even lovelier than I hoped it would be. The location can't be matched by anything else I've seen. I enjoyed a September visit with my dog and was lucky to have pristine weather. I lived a very simple and healthy outdoors life and came home the better for it. The Boathouse is true to its description: it is simple and rustic and uncomplicated but well-equipped, and is perfect for one-and-dog, or for two people. A little coming-and-going from the neighboring houses meant that I didn't feel isolated. Margaret is truly an exceptional and friendly host who communicates promptly and clearly. I almost hesitate to share "my" Boathouse location with too many of my back-home friends because it feels so intimate and special. I already want to be back there. I offer my deep thanks to Margaret and to the place that I could - briefly - call home.

We got a very rainy week in Maine but still enjoyed the beautiful, comfortable and well stocked house, views, decks and incredible garden. Beautiful restaurants, bookstores and wine and antique shops near by. Hope to return to very soon.

If you’re looking to stay in Bar Harbor, this is the place! We felt very at home during our 1 week stay and walking to and from downtown Bar Harbor was easy and accessible. The house is also a 8 minute walk to the nearest grocery store so cooking your own home made meal was simple. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family and would stay here again!

We had the most amazing week at Adam and Lauren’s place! I truly cannot say enough about how wonderful it was. The house was and cozy inviting- we felt right at home. And it had absolutely everything we could have possibly needed. All of the furniture was incredibly comfortable, and we slept amazingly in the king sized bed. But what made this place shine was the outdoor space. First, it is nice and private, separated from all the neighbors by trees/patches of woods. But beyond the privacy, the hosts have put so much attention into making it outstanding with all the amenities you could want on vacation- an amazing hot tub, a lovely little lounge space, a tent to get out of the sun or rain, a grilling area, AND a pool?! PLUS a separate, fully fenced space for dogs?? AND THEN it’s only 20 min to Bar Harbor?! It’s got it all. Truly. If you are considering booking this place, do not hesitate for one second. It is the PERFECT Acadia getaway. And Adam and Lauren are great, attentive hosts!

We loved the place! The house is cozy and roomy but feels secluded even though you are right at the entrance of the camp grounds. It is conveniently located a short drive to downtown bar harbor and Acadia NP so you aren’t wasting much time driving around. Highly recommended the place to couples/small families looking for a nice place to stay on MDI!

We loved our stay. It was just what we needed at the end of the day after exploring Acadia and the small towns scattered throughout the area. It was so cozy and we would definitely come back.

This house is a gem! The beauty of the location near the harbor and the peacefulness were outstanding. The house is very cute and comfortable mixing the original charm with tasteful renovations. Very easy to feel at home. But, watch the slant of the ceiling in the attic bedroom! The lighthouse down the road is one of most scenic we've seen. Nancy was super accommodating about early check in and proactive about making sure all was going well. Definitely a place to return to.

Slice of heaven indeed! I had such a wonderful stay with my pets. It was perfectly located to get to hikes and town, but still enjoy some peace and quiet. Loved the fenced in yard and all the dog friendly touches 🫶🏻 Will absolutely stay again in the future

This house was amazing—hosts really have thought of everything when it comes to guest experience! Kayaking out to the tiny islands in the bay a couple times allowed us to see horseshoe crabs and bald eagles up close. The fire pit was great and the “s’mores station” with supplies in the kitchen upon arrival was so cute and thoughtful. Our three kids loved this place and didn’t want to leave at the end of the week. Our boys especially loved the lower level game room with ping-pong, arcade games, and pop-a-shot. The kids also loved reading on the sofa in the upstairs loft overlooking the kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked and we cooked dinner there a couple times during the week. The hosts gave great local recommendations as well—the craft beer at Fogtown Brewing in Ellsworth (less than 15-min. drive) is excellent, and it is very kid-friendly with a large outdoor eating area and wood-fired pizza. We’d love to return to this house! Mosquitoes are fierce so bring bug repellent.

Tamarack was a lovely private cottage near Southwest Harbor and close to everything we wanted to do in Acadia! We enjoyed staying on the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island and Tamarack was a cozy respite after a long day of hiking. The added bonus of a beautiful sunrise out of our window each morning was very serene! The cottage was new and very clean with all of the amenities you could ask for. There was not much to walk to however it is only about 5 minutes into Southwest Harbor which had a number of good restaurants ( although many close after the 3rd week in October) and close to a tiny but well stocked grocery store. We enjoyed cooking out on the gas grill and exploring local restaurants. Our host was very accommodating and communicative! We will be back next fall!!!

We were traveling with my son and daughter-in-law and two grandkids aged eight and four. Water lily was absolutely the perfect setting for our Maine vacation. It was a total immersion in nature, beauty and peacefulness. Kathryn and Therisa responded promptly to our inquiries. I will be savoring the memories now.

This was probably the most beautiful Airbnb we ever stayed in. The house is simply fantastic, everything felt new with extremely tasteful interior design. We loved the natural light in the house and the beautiful and quiet patio and backyard. The location was great, too: away from the busy Bar Harbor area but close enough to get everywhere within a shot car ride. Catherine was extremely responsive and had lots of great recommendations. We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to be able tor return soon!

Beautiful old house (that porch 😍), responsive host, really great beds and linens, and overall *spotless.* most comfortable bed and nicest towels I’ve experienced at an AirBnB. Location was perfectly situated 15-20ish minutes from the busier parts of the park/Bar Harbor and some great hikes nearer to Southwest Harbor. Was a good choice for us this time of year and I suspect would be even better when Bar Harbor is overrun with people later in the summer. I would 100% stay here again.

So many great things to stay about this fantastic Airbnb: amazing location, gorgeous backyard, everything was clean and neat. The hosts had excellent communication and were responsive as questions came up. They had great recommendations for supermarkets, hikes, local restaurants. There were so many little things that showed attention to detail: sound machines in every room, jewelry bowls on nightstands, good quality cosmetics, detergent for the washing machine, etc. The house has 3 bedrooms: all the linens were clean and neat. The one thing to keep in mind is that the third bedroom was smaller and had less space than the other two with no furniture - this would be perfect for a family with kids but was not ideal for 3 friends traveling since not all the bedrooms were exactly equitable. Overall, we had an amazing experience - it was such a pleasure to stay there.

We had an incredible stay at the Blue Hill Bay house! Nestled in a peaceful wooded setting, the home feels wonderfully secluded, yet inviting. The expansive windows, especially from the top floor loft, make you feel like you’re living in a treehouse. We loved spending evenings around the fire pit, which is surrounded by thoughtfully curated plants, creating a truly magical atmosphere. The grill was easy to use, making outdoor meals a breeze. Inside, the beds were comfortable and the bathrooms spotless. We also appreciated how thoughtfully designed the space was, especially since it's hard to find a cute place that also warmly welcomes dogs. If you’re considering a stay here, don’t hesitate, this place is a gem! We can’t wait to return.

We had a wonderful stay at this Southwest Harbor rental! The owners were welcoming, thoughtful, and responsive. The home met our needs and we had everything we needed. One thing to note is the laundry is in the basement so if you have mobility issues that could be an issue but the machines worked well and it’s always nice to be able to have clean laundry on a trip. One of our favorite things about this home was the giant tv and comfortable seating for movie nights after exploring the area all day. I would recommend this rental if you are interested in staying in a quiet and comfortable home on your trip to area!

The house was beautiful and exactly as described! Great location, super comfortable and great layout for a family or friends staying together.

We were struck by the beauty of the place from our first step into the Boat House! It was beautiful inside and out! We soaked in all the beauty by stargazing at night in the adirondack chairs, and catching the sunrise each morning! We loved the sound of the water lapping against the rocks, and the distant sounds of the lobster boats heading out to sea! We loved how close it was to the Schoodic Peninsula for hiking, biking, and enjoying the crashing waves at Schoodic Point, and it was a beautiful scenic drive to get to Acadia National Park on the Bar Harbor side! It is also so close to the hiking up by Donnell Pond. We couldn't get enough of the place and will surely be back!

Bendigo and Jenni were great hosts from the start. They communicated before we arrived and checked in with us regularly throughout our stay to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Their house is beautiful and looks just like the photos. Every room was meticulously clean and so lovely. The location is very private and peaceful. After a day of hiking and sightseeing it felt like coming home each evening. We would definitely book again with Bendigo and Jenni on our future trips to MDI.

This lodging was exactly what our family wanted for our time on Mt. Desert Island. With 4 upstairs bedrooms it provides plenty of private space & the open living room & well-stocked kitchen allows for a spacious, comfortable time together. The books, games & game room are a bonus! It is well shaded keeping the house cool on warm days. The location on SW Harbor means it is a quiet experience but also has cafes & shops within walking distance ~ Beals Lobster, Clark Point Cafe, Little Notch, Acadia Quiet Side Shop, Rodick's. We recommend the following walks/hikes nearby : Acadia Mtn, Flying Mtn, St. Saveur Mtn, Wonderland, Ship's Harbor, Bass Harbor Head Light, Great Pond, Charlotte Rhoades Garden, Wendell Gilley Museum. On into Bar Habor we recommend driving up Cadillac Mtn, hiking Gorham Mtn, Ocean Path, Gorge Path, Sand Bar & Island, Jordan Pond. The hosts provided frequent & clear communication and we will happily consider staying here again if it meets our travel needs.
