A relaxing retreat close to the Thames.

The Studio is a self contained space attached to our home. It has an open plan area with a kitchen, dining , sitting and sleeping space as well as a separate shower room. Access is through a private entrance at the front of the house. Purley on Thames is a small village in West Berkshire with good access to Reading, Pangbourne and Oxford by car. The Studio is a 10 min walk away from Mapledurham Lock on the Thames path and there are also some lovely walks through nearby Sulham woods.

Private double bedroom and en-suite bathroom

We are located very near the Royal Berkshire Hospital and University of Reading. We have a bedroom, garden room and bathroom for people to use during their stay (nothing is shared). There is a separate entrance to the guest's accommodation and there is no access to the main house. We have a cat who sleeps in the adjoining room (our utility room), but will not have access when guests stay. There is no breakfast supplied. There is on road parking on weekday evenings and weekends.

The house was 'created' in 2020 having originally been part of the village pub - its now part of a redeveloped property which also includes the owners home and a fabulous cafe called Artichoke Cafe The property is right in the heart of the picturesque riverside village of Pangbourne with its fabulous specialist shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Yet only ten minutes walk gets you to the countryside! The village also boasts a mainline station with direct trains to Paddington.

Lovely annex, courtyard garden and private access

Doggy friendly escape! We have full itineraries for nights away with walks, suggestions of where to eat and things to do. Annex with its own access and pretty courtyard garden. Off-street parking. Check in is from 3pm, check out is 11am 15 minute walk to Caversham, 30 minute walk to Reading Station. King size bed with good quality linen and a well equipped bathroom and kitchen.

I have used a lot of world wide vacation rentals. My goal is to get a place that is not unlike being at home. This one does that exceedingly well. It was well appointed. The king size bed was a bonus. The kitchen has all of the modern conveniences. The bathroom is roomy. The TV entertainment package was well above what I expected. Sally went above and beyond so that we wanted for nothing that would make the stay very pleasant. And, I do mean absolutely nothing! The Barn is in a semi-rural, peaceful area, but it close to grocery stores, train station, and some day trip areas. The communication between Sally and I started right after booking and was exceptional. She provided a wealth of help with directions, tour info, and other helpful suggestions that made our stay hassle free. She was always accessible when we had questions. I cannot say this about all of my vacation rentals... My wife and I would definitely return to The Barn.

Lovely spot to stay, we only had one night here passing through on a busy tour of the UK but would have been happy staying longer! Great set up for the kids with green space to enjoy and friendly animals to look at. Anne is the Perfect host I will definitely come again next time I need to be in Wallingford :) She had prepared me a lovely breakfast each morning and also had lots of sightseeing options ready for me to choose from, although, as I was travelling for work I didn't really get to use any of it. All my needs were catered for: including bath towels, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner which was much appreciated. It was very easy to make my own tea in my room! Absolutely lovely stay! I cannot recommend enough!

Frances’s was so lovely and friendly, the room was perfect and just around the corner from a wedding we were attending. The cooked breakfast was delicious and just what the doctor ordered for a couple hungover chaps and great conversation to go with the breakfast. Was 100% recommend and would 100% return.

Great stay with Alistair and Kathy. Super accomodating about us turning up relatively late and in the kind of state you'd expect after a 90km off-road bike ride. They've got a lovely house and you feel very much at home. If you like plants, you'll love this place! The room was excellent too - spacious, comfortable and light. But the highlight was really meeting Alistair and Kathy (and various animals, both usually resident or on some sort of holiday... No wonder, because it's a special place to stay). We could have chatted to both for hours... And almost did. Alistair was also kind enough to lend us a bike pump and offer a spare inner tube. And even though we weren't expecting it, he said he'd lay out a few bits for breakfast if we wanted. We expected some Shreddies, and got those, several other cereals, fruit, Greek yoghurt, jam, butter, and various juice and milk options. Wonderful. Alistair and Kathy... Thanks so much for the kindness and conversation. We might be back

Andrea was a lovely, friendly host. She made me feel right at home. The room was comfy and exactly what was pictured and met my expectations. She has a lovely spacious garden, where I enjoyed spending my evenings. I would highly recommend Andrea’s listing and I would book again if I were looking for digs again in Reading.
