This Airbnb was a perfect spot for a couple to explore all of Mount Desert Island . We stayed for 6 nights and experienced Maine’s beautiful fall foliage. It was exactly as described - peaceful and private - away from busy bar harbor - but easy enough 15 min drive to and from and to Park entrance. we enjoyed the fire pit, cozy living area and used the kitchen to cook in after busy days on the trail … would highly recommend. Magical Lakefront Cabin on 5 Acres-25 Mi to Acadia

MirandaRating, 5 stars5 days ago
Mandi and Michael’s place was a dream come true! Our jaws dropped the moment we stepped foot out of the car and walked the path to the cabin. As hosts, they thought of everything we could need and more. Our stay at the Happy Loon was better than we could’ve imagined. Thank you both for making our trip so magical. We appreciate your hospitality and for sharing your beautiful property with us.

Main Street Suite with Waterfront Resort Access

RobbRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The location was perfect - you didn’t need your car to get around. We were right at the main square or park with lots of interesting shops and restaurants close by. We were 10 minutes from Acadia National Park. Highly recommend spending the extra $6 to drive up Cadillac Mountain. The unit was well appointed, clean, and had games for the kids to play. I did’t care for the shower but I am not used to a claw-foot tub shower. Overall really enjoyed our stay!

Highly recommended the place to couples/small families looking for a nice place to stay on MDI!

Eric is a super friendly host and he knows the local recommendations. His cabin is easy to check-in, clean and very peaceful. One sidenote is this listing doesn't provide wifi, making it ideal for people looking for an unplugged getaway. We truly enjoyed our time on the beautiful Maine coast!

CarolynRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We would highly recommend staying at Jean-Yves and Carol's place! The location was perfect to be a home-base for exploring, with day trips to Bangor, Rockland, Acadia, Bar Harbor, and more! The space was incredibly charming, with a very comfy bed. We're so thankful that it was dog friendly so that our pups could enjoy beautiful Maine with us! The only caution we'd have for someone considering this is that there are spiral staircases to both get inside and to get up to the bedroom - if that's not a concern for you, book it!

We had a great time at Keri’s for our honeymoon! There were very clear instructions and a helpful little instruction sheet for anything we might need, including local recommendations! We felt right at home and it still felt like a very private space even though there is a shared yard with the main house. We would DEFINITELY return if we were ever in the area.

Had a fantastic stay. I love how dog friendly it is. As a dog owner, I didn’t feel like we were being a burden. We’ve stayed at other “dog friendly” Airbnbs and they have had weird rules about furniture. We had no issues with that at all at Seamist. Felt completely comfortable there.

"Sweetwater"-- Bright, Airy, Modern

MichaelRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We absolutely loved our stay at Sweetwater! The home is beautiful, spacious, and sophisticated. It’s located in a peaceful corner of Southwest Harbor—perfect for relaxing after adventures in Acadia. The open-concept living area made it easy to gather as a family, whether we were lounging by the stone hearth, cooking in the well-equipped kitchen, or enjoying meals together. The multiple patios were a dream for morning coffee and evening unwinding. We had a campfire every night and walked to Beale's Lobster Pier by walking across the causeway one evening. Upstairs, all three bedrooms were thoughtfully designed for comfort—plush mattresses, soft linens, and just the right lighting. The master suite, in particular, felt like a serene retreat with its water view and private bath. This place felt like a true home away from home. We’d come back in a heartbeat and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, stylish, and well-appointed spot near Acadia.

The Near EVERYTHING House!

JasmineRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
The house was exactly as described. It was a perfect location that left most of the midtown (or downtown?) area at a walkable distance. It was relatively peaceful too. We only had three very minor issues while there. First the WiFi was down when we arrived, but they were very responsive and came same day to fix it. Second, we got a little confused about the parking. Again the host was super responsive and helped explain it to us. Lastly, if you are renting the house for four or more people I recommend buying your own shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The host provided some and we never reached out for more but they are very small and probably won’t last a group. I’m sure if we had reached out they would have provided more but we decided to go buy some to save everyone effort. The house was beautiful and the amenities were very thoughtful. They have provided boardgames which we took advantage of and a lobster pot! I highly recommend this place.

Abby Lane

Aaron's place was fantastic for our party of 6 (my partner and me, our kids, her parents). The house was located perfectly on the North end of Mt. Desert Island by Hadley Point Beach (where we were lucky to catch both a meteor shower and the Northern Lights.) While the lower level had a separate entrance, the kids appreciated the additional privacy/area away from adults. The entire house was clean and the beds were very comfortable. All of the amenities (well stocked kitchen, two bathrooms, washer/dryer, patio) were much appreciated. We'd definitely stay again when visiting Acadia.

Your guide to Bar Harbor

All About Bar Harbor

For generations, New Englanders have retreated to this craggy stretch of Maine’s coast, where lobster boats bob in the misty harbors of Frenchman Bay, and miles of pristine wilderness make this corner of the United States feel just as untamed as ever. Mount Desert Island is home to one of the top 10 most-visited national parks in the country, and Bar Harbor is the gateway. More than three million visitors come through each year, many on their way to explore the wilds of Acadia National Park, others just to soak in the charm of New England village life, from Northeast Harbor to Southwest Harbor to Bass Harbor (are you sensing a theme?). Clearly, the water defines life in these parts, whether you’re planning a kayak or canoe trip around the Porcupine Islands, or a creamy lobster roll at a seaside eatery in Hulls Cove.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Bar Harbor

There are several glorious weeks between July and Labor Day when Mainers can finally swap their long johns for T-shirts, and naturally that’s the time when the state is flooded with visitors. Bar Harbor’s most popular locations are the most crowded in summer, when temperatures inch above 65 degrees Fahrenheit, peaking at around 73 degrees in mid-July. Fall is chillier, but you’re rewarded with sparser crowds and stunning foliage. By January, the mercury rarely gets above freezing, dipping to around 16 degrees overnight. These harsh winters and sublime summers mean that many Bar Harbor attractions are extremely seasonal. So if you’re planning to visit in the off-season, don’t expect much to be open — and definitely book a rental with a hot tub and fireplace.

Abbe Museum

The museum maintains its original location inside the national park from June through September, and operates a second branch in downtown Bar Harbor that is open all year (except January).

Whale watching

The Gulf of Maine is a playground for several species of whale, including humpbacks, finbacks, and minkes. It’s possible to spot them from shore, or you could get up closer with a wildlife cruise. Expert-led excursions depart from the Bar Harbor pier daily from May to October.
