I can’t say enough good things about our visit. This was our first Airbnb experience but it certainly won’t be our last. At Eileen’s recommendation we did the day tour on Cumberland island and it was the highlight of our trip. Thanks for making our “getaway” so peaceful! This place stole our heart!

The home was extremely beautiful, the pictures don’t do it justice. The neighbors were very friendly and the property/landscaping was nice. I would definitely recommend staying there if you’re looking for a peaceful getaway. The gifts and snacks that were left for us was a plus, greatly appreciated. Definitely the best hosts in Jacksonville.

Cozy Cottage

LaurenRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Fantastic cottage getaway. We have been looking for a tidal salt marsh location for years. The cottage is clean and modern with all the comforts of home. The dock was the best with a shade cover and chairs. We spent hours bird watching and fishing. Lots of convenience touches were awesome. There’s no oven, but we used the big air fryer, cooktop, & microwave to cook great meals. Historic Fernandina was quaint. Lots to do in the area. Carrie was a great host. Responded immediately when we needed a bit of help with the WiFi on her 2 big smart TV’s. Everything worked as expected. Would definitely return!

Peyton’s Place

JennecaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
We had an extended stay at Peyton's place and it was excellent! From the moment we got there, it felt so peaceful and like home. The home has a lot of character and has been well maintained. Peyton thought of so many little things that made it feel like home...he probably has anything you need sprinkled throughout the house! The neighbors were all very warm and friendly. We also got a chance to meet Peyton in person and he has such a welcoming, down-to-earth personality. He provided a lot of wonderful information about the home and area ahead of time and always communicated with us very well. He was also very understanding and helpful since we mistakenly left some clothes behind in the dryer! You'll be in a fabulous, walkable location to the town of St. Mary's, along with the Cumberland Island Ferry. Overall, this was a wonderful experience for our family and very glad we booked with Peyton! :-)

Charming Historic Beach Cottage

AndreaRating, 5 stars3 months ago
The place was super cute and close to the beach, as well as restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Cindi was extremely thorough with her check-in and check-out directions, making everything very simple. The home was great and quiet. Cindi's place has more condiments and kitchen tools and utensils than any other place I've been to. It was truly a delight all around!
The kitchen area features stainless steel appliances, including a refrigerator and microwave. A dining table with woven chairs is positioned nearby. Open shelves hold various kitchen items, while ample counter space allows for cooking. Soft lighting contributes to a functional and inviting atmosphere.

Beach Cottage - less than 100ft from beach access

LizRating, 5 stars2 months ago
I stayed for the month of March and wish I could have stayed much longer. This place met my needs perfectly. Although this is an older cottage (one of the original beach cottages that still line much of the West side of South Fletcher Ave. between Sadler and Simmons), it was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The kitchen was better equipped than many of the high end rentals I’ve stayed at and I loved that there was a small fenced in yard so my pup could be outside without a leash. Best of all was the beach access!

Beach Getaway with Outdoor Space. Steps to Sand

KathleenRating, 5 starstoday
Chris’s place was amazing! The best location imagine, close to everything fun but very quiet and peaceful at night. Loved the private yard with a shower that we could wheel the Beach wagon and gear in and not have to carry the stuff into a house (we had our own bikes we also conveniently locked right in the yard, but highly recommend renting bikes, it was a great biking area.). Upstairs deck was also amazing. The kitchen is pristine with all modern appliances, and the washer and dryer were nice when we had to dry a couple things. The heatless fire gave a calming ambience in the common room for chatting and catching up with some old friends. I would highly recommend to anyone!
A small storage area is presented with a white door leading to under-stair storage. Inside, a dog crate and a laundry basket are visible, providing practical accommodation for guests' needs. The space is well-organized and easy to access.

Debbie and Chris were so responsive and kind even way before I checked in. Their place was awesome for my trip! Two bikes - amazing perk since you can bike the whole town easily. Also easy walking to everything or like 3-5 minute drive to downtown. Great spot for our Cumberland Island tour trip. Cottage B is fantastic with the outdoor pergolas with fans and couch, grill, and table. Well worth the price! Would recommend to any friends or family members for future endeavors.

Beachcomber B

LauraRating, 5 stars2 months ago
We had a great time staying here. The only complaint we have is the mattresses are very soft with a dip in one of the full beds. Would love a queen bed in at least one room and better mattresses. Love being right on the beach and sitting on the deck watching the ocean. The unit is well appointed overall.

Your guide to Amelia Island

Welcome to Amelia Island

A delightful slice of Florida coastline in the Deep South, this relaxed 13-mile stretch of sun and sand is sometimes referred to as the Isle of Eight Flags. That’s because the barrier island has changed hands at least that many times. The Timucua people first settled here around 4,000 years ago, and the French, Spanish, English, Patriots, Green Cross, Mexican Rebels, Confederates, and the United States all claimed the territory at some point thereafter, in some cases more than once.

To soak up some of this history, head for the island’s downtown hub, Fernandina Beach, where a late-19th-century rail depot now serves as the tourist welcome center. City blocks abound with converted fishing cottages and Victorians with gabled roofs and verandas, many of which have been repurposed into shops, restaurants, and bars. The remainder of the moss-draped island is defined by its verdant parks, inland tropical forests, golf courses, tidal marshlands, and a shell-studded shoreline, along with the land and water adventures that have been drawing vacationers since the 1880s.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Amelia Island

If you like a low-key vacation with mild, warm weather, the best seasons for visiting Amelia Island are the spring and the fall. Of course, the destination is popular year-round and really goes off in the summer, when families from all over the American South converge on the island despite its rising heat, humidity, and rainfall. Temperatures dip a bit in winter, but it’s fairly dry, with plenty of sun and optimal birdwatching, making this another great time of year to visit. Note that demand skyrockets over Christmas holidays, which are reminiscent of peak summer crowds.

If you’re interested in attending some of the area’s beloved events, the Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival happens in the spring, and celebrations of jazz and whales are put on in the fall.

Top things to do in Amelia Island

Fort Clinch State Park

Centered on a 19th-century fort taken by a Confederate militia during the Civil War, this sprawling 1,400-acre park also offers shelling beaches, a half-mile fishing pier, and idyllic trails for hiking and bicycling.

Kayaking

You haven’t truly visited Amelia Island unless you’ve gotten onto the water and paddled along a tranquil estuary in a kayak or on a stand-up paddleboard. Nearby outfitters offer ecotours, firefly tours, rentals, and even paddleboard yoga classes.

American Beach Museum

This museum offers a glimpse into a historic African-American beach community formed during Florida’s segregated Jim Crow era. The American Beach shoreline was constructed in 1935 to include Black-owned motels, restaurants, and nightclubs that featured performances from famous Black musicians. After a hurricane decimated the community in 1964, desegregation rendered a rebuilding obsolete.
