Just minutes from campus, downtown, and the airport, The Depot is a historic home attached to 5 wooded acres, a lake, and a "big sky" view across the prairie for watching sunsets and night skies. Originally a train depot constructed in 1857, it has been fully modernized for contemporary living. However, we have taken great effort to preserve its rustic charms that Abraham Lincoln would have known during his circuit riding days before the Civil War. These include graffiti from 1917.

The home has been restored to the era of when Roger Ebert lived there — according to details in chapter 1 of his autobiography, “Life Itself.” We're a 12-minute drive to downtown Champaign + a 5 minute drive to the U of I campus. Our space is a sunny bonus room located above the garage of our home which is situated on a beautiful piece of property on the edge of town. Private entrance to the property includes a slightly steeper than normal staircase. Once inside, you will find a large area that includes two double beds, a recliner, work desk, dresser, Smart TV w/ Roku. The large bathroom (shower only) includes fridge, microwave, & K-Cup w/Starbucks coffee pods. Space not suitable for young children. No pets.

Beautiful place and very large. The pictures actually undersell it, the inside is bright and beautiful and the kitchen is full of amenities. The basement has a very nice movie theater and an arcade machine so tons of stuff for the kids to do. 10 minutes from UoI campus and very nice and private neighborhood. Huge backyard as well.

"The Mainstay" newly renovated and ideal location!

We will definitely book this again if we are heading to U of I. The kids thought the staircase was cool because it was so steep and they enjoyed being able to play pickleball at the park. I was able to get a run in around the neighborhood but there was definitely pot smoking and drinking going on at the park by adults in the pavilion. It is a college town and just stayed at the park with the kids but didn’t feel unsafe. Great location overall!

Peaceful 2BR - near Walking Paths, Parks & Golfing

We had a wonderful stay at Karen's Happy Place! It is located in a lovely quiet neighborhood, but close to everything we needed to spend time with our UIUC grad student. I loved taking my coffee on morning walks in the nearby Southridge Park -- so peaceful and pretty, with lots of bird life as well. We appreciated the personal touches on check-in to make us feel welcomed. The bed was super comfortable and the black out curtains let us catch up on some much needed sleep as well. Her recommendations for local coffee/food/activities were spot on --bagels and coffee around the corner were delicious, and a walk through the art installations at Meadowbrook Park was relaxing. Thank you for the great (almost) week, Karen -- I hope we can stay again next time we're in town!

Enjoyed our time at the Wren House. The Wren House was our stay during a horse show event at Gordyville USA. It was a great place to unwind and disconnect after a full day of horse showing. This was our second stay at the Nestle on New Street. Our family loves this place — it’s like our home away from home when we are visiting family in Champaign.
