Land of Promise - Reggae Eco Village (Ruma Saja)

Anita and Dwight gave us a warm welcome to Surinam. They were flexible with picking us up from the airport. Dinner and breakfast were homemade and tasty. The bedroom was tidy and had a lot of atmosphere. The numerous animals at this place each have their own character and it is lovely to see Anita and Dwight care for them. All in all, this was a great start for our trip to Surinam.
A spacious outdoor area is surrounded by trees, featuring a mix of shaded and sunny spots. Two structures with red and dark roofs provide gathering spaces. The sandy ground is littered with fallen leaves, and dappled sunlight filters through the branches above.

Maison Marigot, plantation 4 kids on the water

This location is as described. Very tranquil and well maintained. Easy to find. Because of the dry season the lake is dry. Highly recommended.
An intricate mushroom with a net-like, orange-brown cap is nestled among green ferns on the forest floor. The delicate texture of the mushroom contrasts with the lush foliage surrounding it, highlighting the diversity of jungle flora.

Simple but Wonderful Hut in Kamp Makandi Boto-Pasi

Eleonora OlgaRating, 5 stars6 months ago
I had an unforgettable stay at Spenky's hut. If you’re looking to slow down, reconnect with nature, and embrace a simpler way of life, this is the place for you. Botopasi village is incredible, and learning about the Saramaccan people’s rich culture and history is profoundly rewarding. The hut, immersed in lush nature and near the Suriname River, offers a window into daily life: fishing, swimming, and washing clothes in the river. The hospitality was heartwarming. Bringing school supplies or goods for local kids is a thoughtful gesture—they’re amazing and appreciate support in this isolated area. Make sure to stock up on food and coordinate with Spenky before your trip. This experience was beyond memorable. The serene surroundings, cultural richness, and genuine connections made this adventure one I’ll treasure forever. Highly recommend this unique stay!
A wooden door is ajar, revealing lush greenery outside. A small plant sits in a pot on a wooden stool, contributing to the natural ambiance. The red flooring and a neutral-colored rug are visible, adding warmth to the entryway.

WOSU: Enjoy Anouk's junglehouse <3

FionaRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Anouk’s place is a true paradise in a beautiful garden of a wonderful family. Anouk guides you with detailed directions all the way to her house. A haven for independent travelers like us. At location you can be guided bij locals to the forest or around the villages. Or just enjoy a swim in the river, sitting at the porch, the food ( which you have to bring yourself ) the sounds of the jungle…We highly recommend this place, we are definitely coming back to this place if we ever go back to Surinam. Thanks Anouk for sharing this place

What a wonderful place and a warm welcome from Mr. Fonkel. The location is stunning on the waterfall. The cottages are very nicely situated with a view of the river. You can sit on the balcony and enjoy the river, the star sky or the sunrise. Here no mass tourism but personal attention. Please inquire with Mr. Fonkel for a full trip. In addition to the cottage, the food is also provided by a great cook. Yes, you can only use the cottage but also especially use the excursions offered. Where I can especially recommend the overnight stay with Jan. You will then go up the river and creek by boat. Then a 45-minute walk to spend the night at a creek in hammocks. Jan cooks deliciously and is so nice and welcoming. Especially do. You sleep under a beautiful canopy in the jungle. In the creek you can swim and there is a clean toilet! In short, a great location.
A cabin is viewed from a distance, surrounded by wooden fencing and open grassy land. Tropical trees frame the scene, while an adjacent covered area holds potted plants. The calm atmosphere reflects the serene natural surroundings.
