This is both food /and sight seeing really - there is a walking trail over the fleet starting at the manor. Get a high tea or lunch after at the manor - it’s quite reasonably priced for the quality.

I personally never go to the ‘main’ beach - that beach is good for small toddlers but can be really busy in the summer. For bigger children and adults Greenhill beach is much nicer - anywhere from Greenhill Gardens to The Oasis Cafe.

This is the BEST place to watch the sun set from in Weymouth - the beach stays warm until late in the evening and is very local - great for BBQs and drinks late into the evening at The Cove - NO SWIMMING at this beach it’s too dangerous.

Lulworth cove is a stunning local spot which you can drive or bike to. I cannot recommend checking the traffic enough and would advise to go early in the summer months. Good walking shoes is a must.

Traveler advice

Getting around

Portland & Lulworth Cove

These are lovely spots to visit but beware Lulworth in particular has horrendous traffic in the summer (as does Portland). Plan your trip around traffic.
Getting around

Portland Shuttle Bus

Portland has some lovely beaches (be careful - no swimming on Chesil beach - general rule is if no one is swimming, don’t get in the water), but the traffic is bad. The bus is also an option https://www.firstbus.co.uk/wessex-dorset-south-somerset/plan-journey/journey-planner/?from=Rodwell%20Ave,%20Weymouth%20DT4%208UX,%20UK&to=Isle%20of%20Portland,%20Portland,%20UK&date=2022-07-12&hr=18&min=15&modes=bus&type=at&flat=50.6041785&flng=-2.4540688&tlat=50.5475363&tlng=-2.4343209
Getting around

Take the ferry to Portland :)

There is a ferry from Weymouth Harbour to Portland - better than being stuck in traffic :) - departs every day at 10.30, 1pm and 3.30pm. Have a look at the coast line cruises website for more info.
