Places to stay in Upham
Traditional shepherd's hut with a contemporary interior 3 miles from Winchester. Ensuite, kitchen, deck with table and chairs, beautiful outdoor pool, tennis court, bbq, brazier and an un-overlooked location in an old orchard. So much to explore nearby, or relax in your private retreat. This year-round retreat is heated and has internet and digital TV. Suitable for leisure and business travellers.
Once inside the traditionally built shepherd's hut you'll feel you're in a boutique hotel. The table and banquettes transform to a 6ftx5ft bed with feather duvet and crisp linen, and the en suite shower room features a large shower, basin and WC. Provided in the kitchen are china, pans, cutlery, wine glasses and more. The double induction hob is easy to use, and there's a microwave with grill, fridge, Nespresso machine and kettle. We provide free-range eggs from the field next door (you'll see the chickens that laid them, and the two llamas they live with), bread, milk and homemade granola. Snug and warm inside, the hut is made to a design shepherds of old would recognise but decidedly contemporary comforts include double-glazed windows, internet, and digital tv. The electric radiator makes the Little Fox Hut a year-round retreat attracting a mix of weekend and business visitors. Stay for the Winchester Wine Festival, Christmas Market, Hat Fair, Farmers’ Market, famous Cathedral, and annual Boomtown Festival. Slightly further afield are tours of local vineyards, Portsmouth Historic Harbour, the Bombay Sapphire distillery, and the attractions of Goodwood.
We're less than three miles from Winchester, in the heart of the South Downs National Park with its glorious walks and scenery. Take your pick from the incredible number of gourmet restaurants available in Winchester, or explore closer to home or further afield in a cosy pub or bistro. Southampton is 20 minutes away by car, the New Forest less than half an hour. The heated pool is open mid May to mid September and the tennis court year-round. Just ask and we'll send you a comprehensive list of local restaurants and attractions.
  • The Shepards Hut is a cosy gorgeous setting if you are after something different. As mentioned, it is small, so if you have many bags, they can be left in the car in the car space which is right next to the place. Being a Shepards Hut you have to dismantle the table in order to build the bed. It all takes 5mins and is very Go Go Gadget and easy to do. The place is spotlessly clean and modern. Unfortunately during my stay it was wet, windy and cold everyday (typical England) so I was unable to explore the lush open space that was available. But indoors I was toasty warm and comfortable. The welcome treats were very welcomed indeed. Amanda is an amazing host, very prompt with communication, very knowledgeable and goes beyond her duties of just being a host, she cares and seeks ways to make your stay in the region enjoyable, convenient and memorable.

  • A lovely little hut in quiet surroundings just outside of Winchester. They've really made the most of the available space and the bed is comfy and kitchen and bathroom have all you need. We were excited to find eggs, butter, bacon, home made granola and prosecco there to welcome us too. Although the hut is in the garden of the main house, it feels secluded and the view is great. We enjoyed watching the alpaca in the next field.

  • Had a lovely stay at this location, hosts were polite and easy to contact if needed! Clear travel instructions were given and the cabin itself was beautiful, with lots of nice little touches. Would recommend for a quiet weekend getaway :)

  • Amanda's shepherds hut is brilliant - my girlfriend and I stayed for a night to celebrate her birthday and it was perfect for a quick getaway. The space is cosy but cleverly laid out - all the mod cons. Amanda had left us some its and pieces in the fridge which was lovely and had turned on the heating in advance of our arrival. Would highly recommend.

  • What a superb stay. Amanda and her husband went above and beyond. Little touches of bread and milk and offering a lift into town made the whole experience so special. The hut was beautiful and felt very private. We enjoyed our breakfast on the decking out front and watching the llamas in the field. Very cosy and magical. Would highly reccomend ! Xx

  • We had a lovely stay at Amanda's place. A perfect spot to relax whilst also having the sights & activities in Winchester to keep busy when you want to be. We didn't see Amanda during our stay but the shepherds hut has been done very stylishly with some nice touches. Would definitely stay again...maybe in the summer to take advantage of pool and tennis court!

  • Fantastic little Airbnb. Amanda really has made the most of the small space. Lots of lovely little touches, she's thought of everything. Well located a 5 minute drive from Winchester and even closer to some nice walks. We were kindly given a lift into Winchester when we arrived, otherwise you'd either need to drive or get a cab, Uber worked quite well for us but you do need to give clear instructions. Good shower, bed, living space and kitchenette. Perfect for a long weekend.

    Ben2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely two nights stay at Amanda's place. Very quiet and peaceful. The place was just beautiful and so cosy! We also popped into Winchester for the day. Amanda's place was about 10mins away from the park and ride. A really lovely place to stay to get away from it all. Thank you very much!

Atmospheric apartment in a converted stable 3 miles from Winchester. The ground floor is a well-equipped kitchen/sitting room with comfy L-shaped sofa. Upstairs, the former hayloft (please note limited head height due to sloping ceiling) is a cosy bedroom with smart en suite. Guests are welcome to enjoy the owner’s large garden, outdoor pool (summer only) and tennis court. A starter breakfast pack of milk, eggs, bacon, tea and coffee is provided. WiFi, TV, washing machine, Nespresso.
Former stable in the grounds of a country house near Winchester. Guests are welcome to wander the garden, play tennis and have a swim in the outdoor pool (end May to early September). Please note: upstairs is quirkily in keeping with its former life as a hayloft and has limited head height where the ceiling slopes on each side.
We live in a small South Downs hamlet, opposite a church (services most Sundays at 9.30am). There are lovely walks nearby, pubs in next door villages, and we are less than a 10-minute drive from historic Winchester.
  • Great place to stay for an overnight - cosy, nicely furnished and well equipped. We appreciated the little touches - bacon and eggs provided for breakfast, and a lovely arrangement of spring flowers in a vase. Would recommend.

  • We stayed at The Stable for a winter weekend. The place was immaculately clean and so cosy and warm!! Everything in the place was great quality - Denby plates, crisp white bedding, feather duvet and pillows, comfy bed, just delightful!! Amanda had also left a bottle of wine in the fridge, M&S finest bacon, eggs, milk, bread, butter!!! Such a thoughtful touch! There was also a very well stocked tea and coffee tray! Amanda has the right balance of 'being there' and 'not being there' - non intrusive but also helpful if we needed it - she even offered to give us a lift into Winchester but we decided to stay 'home' and enjoy the Stable. We really couldn't have asked for a better stay - would definitely like to stay again.

  • A beautiful home and very warm and hospitable hosts. I had the ensuite room which faces west with a view over the fields. The other slightly larger room faces east over the garden and has a bathroom, with bath, next to it. Emma and Al left out a huge array of tasty breakfast food, and made me tea whenever I wanted it. There are fabulous hill/Downs walks a short drive away. At the moment the scaffolding is the best way to spot the house. Loved the whole experience.

A beautifully converted, luxury holiday cottage for two, tucked away in the small hamlet of Woodcote, between Winchester and Bishop's Waltham, in the South Downs National Park.
Exceptional one bedroom, self catering accommodation in a stunning rural setting (in the South Downs National Park, an area of outstanding natural beauty). Perfect for a romantic break, away from the daily hustle and bustle but still close to towns like Winchester, Portsmouth and Southampton. Medieval market town Bishop's Waltham is nearby with a butcher, greengrocer, bakery, the best coffee in Hampshire, a traditional sweet shop, 2 supermarkets as well as countless independent shops, pubs and restaurants.
  • Very cute and cosy cottage! Home from home!! Complimentary goodies were a nice touch. Such a comfy bed, best ever! Great location to explore the south coast and lovely local walks! Very quiet area in the middle of nowhere 🙂

    Lisa2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Super modern space with plenty of walks from the doorstep. Marian was extremely speedy with communication and offered lots of suggestions for local spas when asked. She also left some lovely cookies and gin which were much appreciated! The log burner was fantastic as we shut ourselves away to hide from Storm Ciara. Bathroom very modern and great shower. Large, comfy bed with plenty of storage space. Microwave oven super handy for any cooking, plus induction hob. Oil/salt/pepper provided, plus some orange juice and milk. Note bathroom is not ensuite but through the kitchen/living room. Had a very relaxing stay here.

    Sam2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely place. There is a wonderful pub in the village that we were able to walk to. Winchester is really close as well - and returning to the Woodcote Barn was really something we'd look forward to at the end of each day. Everything about it is so thoughtful, it seemed like there was always another detail we hadn't noticed. Highly recommended!

  • We are so pleased we chose the Stables for our first experience using Airbnb, Marian and Justin were incredibly helpful and the property was charming, cosy and clean with everything we needed. The location is beautiful and peaceful and it was the perfect place from which to explore Winchester and enjoy walks in the local countryside. We would love to stay again.

    Anna2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Stables is a lovely property in a great location. We stayed in January and it was so cosy and a great place to come back to after a day out. As mentioned by others it is very clean, well equipped and Marian has worked hard to think of everything with some thoughtful touches.

    Julia2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • Just returned from a lovely long weekend at The Stables. The space is thoughtfully arranged and super cosy, it has everything needed for a quiet getaway. The kitchen is stocked with the basics and pots pans etc so everything you need for nights in, and if you don't feel like cooking, the village pub nearby is great! There are books and DVD's on the shelves to entertain while sitting by the log burner. Loads of beautiful walks in the area and there is a detailed guidebook in the stables with tips and walks you can go on. The cookies and gin were a lovely welcome touch (though we were doing dry Jan, but I'm sure the gin was delicious!) . Marian and Justin are great hosts and were very communicative through the whole process, helping me with taxi numbers and weather tips. Thanks again for having us!

    Hannah2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We stayd a week at Marians beautiful place and there was absolutely nothing to complain about. It was clean, cosy and the bed sheets where wonderful soft. A beautiful bathroom, nice kitchen and livingroom. Very thoughtful details when we arrived made us feel welcome. Also Marian and her husband are very friendly. We would absolutely recomend it to everybody who looks for a quiet place on the countryside with short distance to several excursions.

    Anne2020-01-13T00:00:00Z

She was really kind - even offering to clean up our dog's sick! There is no parking outside the house but we had no problems getting a spot on the road. We would certainly use her again.

  • Great place for walks and if you have a dog. Lovely space and the little touches are excellent....the hosts left us bread jams and croissants for breakfast, rock salt and ketchup and those sorts of things...only downside was the WiFi...lots of problems and we couldn’t stream a film which was a little disappointing after choosing one over dinner...

  • Paulene is a great host and has a lovely home. Nothing is too much to ask and it was a pleasure to stay the night.

    Emma2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • We had a warm welcome from Paulene who was very friendly. The house was as new and immaculately clean and very comfortable. Fully recommended.

    John2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • I spent a great 2 nights at Paulene's accommodation. The photos gave me a good insight as to what could be expected, and I wasn't disappointed. Modern and spotless, together with a great, quiet location, but within close proximity of a number of franchised eateries, made for a restful stay. Although I did not get the pleasure of meeting Paulene (and Dudley the pooch), she was a great host who provided me with very accurate details regarding directions and the check in process. Nothing was too much trouble! Highly recommend this accommodation.

    Michael2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • Paulene's place is exactly as described, the bed and bedroom are very comfortable and clean, as is the adjacent bathroom for guest's sole use. There is also a very nice loungeroom for guests on the same floor. I appreciated use of the kitchen and would definitely stay here again next time I'm in the area. I especially liked the quiet and privacy of the accommodation. The nearest Tesco and / or restaurants are about 10 minutes walk away. I didn't use public transport so can't comment on this.

    Susan2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at this Airbnb for 4 days and Paulene was very friendly and very respectful of our privacy. The place was particularly notable for the perfect, modern decor. I definitely recommend!

Twyford House Cottage is a Grade 2 listed building full of history and was built in 1790 as the footman's cottage to Twyford House. There is a brick built summer house just across the lane in the garden of the main house where, incredibly, Benjamin Franklin wrote his memoirs. This is a unique cosy, home from home. The property consists of a double bedroom and a single bedroom , a unique bespoke kitchen and a good sized lounge/ dining room. Private driveway and delightful garden.
The property is right at the centre of the beautiful village of Twyford. Just a stone’s throw from the excellent village store and post office and within minutes walk of the two village pubs, The Bugle (Highly rated on tripadvisor) and The Phoenix Inn. Bean Below is the local café where you can enjoy a delicious breakfast, lunch or coffee and cake. There is a beautiful open space with play equipment at Hunter Park. Twyford itself is situated in the South Downs National Park, just south of Winchester and is full of fantastic footpaths and walking routes.

  • Charming cottage. Complete home from home, with all mod cons. However, steep stairs for anyone with luggage or mobility issues.

    Monica2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication throughout. Nice cosy cottage, clean & tidy on arrival. Well stocked functional kitchen. Bethanna goes that bit further than other owners to make your stay easy and enjoyable

    Steve2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • A little gem of a cottage in Twyford! The bus to Winchester stops just up the road which is great for getting in and out of the city. The cottage has everything you could want with some lovely extra touches including fresh flowers, kindling and wood for the log burner and basics in the kitchen/fridge. Would highly recommend.

  • A very thoughtfully designed spotlessly clean living space in a lovely and quiet location with a nice welcome pack included.

    William2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Well what can I say?! From the moment we booked this on the site the communication was amazing & it made us so excited to finally get there! Toby is an amazing host. He greeted us so warmly on our arrival & explained everything in great detail about how the accommodation worked. He was such an attentive host while at the same time allowing us the space and freedom to carry on to do our own thing as planned. The farm on which the barn is situated is BEAUTIFUL. Horses running around in the fields and miles and miles of rolling fields. It truly was such a beautiful site with seclusion and privacy away from the main farm house where the hosts live. The barn was so cute. It was immaculately clean with a brand new kitchen and bathroom. Toby had even added a personal touch of croissants, bread, cereal, milk, jams, teas and coffees which was lovely. We were also allowed a later checkout which was fantastic. My husband, myself and my 2 friends had such an amazing New Year’s stay at this location & we will be back again without a shadow of a doubt!

    Cathy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z

  • Lovely place to stay, and very accommodating hosts when we had an awkward schedule. Bed and bedding very comfy, must have been a kingsize I think. Breakfast and cooking items were a fantastic extra touch. Will be returning again for sure.

    Antonia2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This location is so tranquil for a retreat weekend away, it exceeded our expectations for value for money. The surround fields with horses made it a perfect setting. The place was clean, had all the amenities we need to cook if we wished. It was easy driving distance to Winchester city centre which was perfect for us. The hosts were very accommodating, looked after us with breakfast treats and were very quick to respond. Thanks for a lovely stay Toby. Highly recommend this place and can’t wait to revisit myself.

The bed is unbelievable, all of the amenities were great quality and as my boyfriend and I were there for nearly a week, it felt like home. I would 100% recommend this place, it was a real pleasure bringing in 2020 in this lovely place. The area itself is lovely, great walks, pubs, scenery (most recommended by Diana) - would love to come back in the summer. There is also a great book in the air bnb with guests walks and recommendations which we wrote lots in! Thank you for everything Diana!

  • We stayed at the stables for our first wedding anniversary, combined with our 30th Birthdays. The whole place was stunning, inside and out - including the view of their property which was out of this world. Amanda and her family were extremely accommodating - to giving us lifts, and tips of where to go on walks - but also where to go for a bite to eat or for cocktails. We would definitely book back here for a weekend break! Thank you so much again for everything!

    Abi2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • A real gem of a place. We stayed to visit Goodwood on Sunday and chill on Saturday, which we did sun bathing and swimming in the pool. The best equipped place we have stayed at with a well stocked fridge for breakfast. Lovely friendly dogs. Would gladly stay again.

Come and find out about the beautiful Hampshire countryside in my artist's house. A warm welcome to all. Walk into the village centre for pubs, restaurants and bars, out into the countryside for stunning views. Winchester 8 miles, coast 25 minutes
Friendly light filled space filled with interesting objects, large double bedroom , shared bathroom.
I live on the outskirts of the medieval village of Bishops Waltham, just 10 minutes walk away from plenty of places to eat, pubs, cafes and local shops. Walks in the countryside are within 100 metres. Winchester is within 8 miles. There are local buses to Winchester but drive and take the park and ride into the city. Also within 6 miles of the Aegeas Bowl which hosts International cricket and pop concerts.

The well regarded Shoe Inn and its garden with river frontage is a short walk away for excellent meals and refreshments. The Meonstoke Village shop and Post Office is equally close by and is stocked with a wonderful range of goods.
  • Wonderful place to stay in the Downs. Great view in the morning over a vineyard and the place comes with a great fireplace too.

  • A delightful place to stay. The South Downs Way runs right past the front door (perfect for short walks, hiking or trail running). The views of the hills and vineyards are just stunning. It was so quiet and peaceful but good amenities in the village. We loved how dark it was at night. The accommodation was stylish and spotlessly clean. The wood burning stove was very cosy. Pat is a delightful host and a really kind lady. This place hugely exceeded our expectations and is very highly recommended.

  • Ideal place to stay while walking the South Downs Way! The path was right outside and the barn was so comfortable. Pat was a wonderful host and gave us a warm welcome, and it was the perfect place for two tired walkers to rest. We had dinner at the local pub (The Shoe Inn) which was delicious. Thanks Pat, we’ll recommend to all our friends!

  • The Den is a charming, warm and cozy place to stay. The setting is beautiful, whether it’s for a trip to Winchester Christmas Market or a walk on the South Downs, you can’t go wrong here. Finished to a high standard and with everything you need, we can’t fault it and are considering a return in the future. Pat is a great host too, very friendly and welcoming but not intrusive in the slightest. Throughly pleased with our trip, this really is a great place for a weekend getaway!

    Oliver2019-12-16T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy barn. Very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen and gorgeous wood fire.

    Fiona2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place to get away with plenty to get out and do.

    Craig2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Pat made us feel very welcome and showed us round the barn and explained where everything was. We had a very enjoyable stay. The description of the barn on airbnb is spot on. Pat also kindly advised us at the time of booking to reserve a table at the local pub if we want to eat there as it is very popular. Would definitely stay here again
