Places to stay in Toms Brook
Our mountain retreat is close to the Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah River, Appalachian Trail, Front Royal and Highway 66. You’ll love the coziness, location, nature and the tranquility. This large space is good for writers, solo adventurers and business travelers.
Our room is spacious and quiet. There is a desk, microwave, refrigerator, futon and coffee table to make you feel comfortable. Storage includes a wardrobe, utility closet, 2 night stands and 2 small rolling cabinets.
The house is located in a very quiet neighborhood on Apple Mountain. There are some steep inclines/declines getting to/from our house to the main road. All of these roads are paved and are easy to traverse. Our community has excellent snow removal if you are planning a winter stay. The last stretch of road leading to our house is gravel and level, as is our driveway which is paved. The Apple House Restaurant is 5 minutes away as are 2 gas stations and a 7-11. It is less than 10 minutes to Front Royal where there is plenty of shopping, restaurants and laundry mats. Our close proximity to 66 makes it easy to get to Winchester or Gainesville. The Shenandoah River and Appalachian Trail are minutes away. The Shenandoah National Park is 15 minutes away. There are also wineries and orchards 10 minutes away. In short, this where people living in the DC area come to recreate.
  • Mark and Arlene are great hosts. Everything was clean and the house is in a private neighborhood. The room was very comfortable and the shower has hot water. The little extras like the toaster/coffee maker/griddle and the mini fridge only add to the allure of this private mountain apartment. Excellent!

  • Great SPLACE. Great room and peaceful. Location secluded, but near highway!

  • Mark and Arlene are great hosts. They even put up black out curtains for this night shift nurse; very thoughtful and greatly appreciated. Their home is beautiful and centrally located to most of the hospitals; about 30-35 minutes. I would stay again should I find myself back in the area.

  • Quiet, private, mountain top living. Excellent sunset views. Arlene & Mark are fun, friendly, accomodating hosts. I look forward to a future stay. 💙

  • Immaculately clean! The entry is very private with a beautiful view of the woods and mountain range. The bed is extremely comfortable; I was able to work nights and sleep peacefully during the day even with close access to the freeway. Mark and Arlene are wonderful hosts and will respond quickly to any questions you may have. Thanks for the great stay!!

  • Arlene and Mark have been nothing short of truly amazing. This was my first long term stay with Airbnb and I am so glad I got Mark and his wife Arlene as my hosts. From day one they were so accommodating to me, checked on me, communicated so well with me, and have truly made me feel as though I had a home away from home. I can't thank them enough for everything. A great example of their kindness and heart was when there was someone who wanted to stay about 2 weeks longer than me, but check in about 3 days later than me and I had just arrived in town (Winchester) on a Sunday for work to build a Solar PV Farm and I didn't have a place to stay. Mark and Arlene approved me to stay instead as I was already in town and I didn't have a place to stay. They didn't want to leave me without a home and took care of me when they could have opted to take the other guest as they wanted to stay longer and would have made more money. Truly blessed to have come across such great heart felt people and hosts. I will definitely be recommending them if I ever know of anyone who is planning on staying in the area or if I ever return :) On specifics of the place, their home is beautiful and located in the mountains. I love my drive everyday to work because it is such a beautiful site to see the lush green trees and distant mountains as I drive down the mountain. The place you stay in is even better in person than the pictures show. It is really spacious and I love how there is a sliding door access on the side of the house that allows you private access to your room without disturbing anyone and there is a code to get in which is nice because it saves the trouble of potentially losing a key. The space is located at the bottom of the house and to the right of the garage which allows you all the privacy you want if that is what you are looking for. The bed is really comfortable, the bathroom is really nice, and the decorations in the room are beautiful as it illustrates artwork from different places they have traveled. You cannot go wrong with booking this place. Great heart warming and welcoming hosts, a great spacious place, and an outstanding value!!! Again, thank you Mark and Arlene for everything. My stay here will not be forgotten.

  • This is a lovely cottage. It is historic, yet updated with modern conveniences. The directions were excellent, and we were able to find it on a day and rainy night. The gas fireplace was especially welcome, as were the comfy recliners facing it.

  • Anne's hospitality is amazing! There was absolutely nothing we lacked while there. She anticipates and provides a guest's every need. Anne thoughtfully leaves detailed instructions about where to find what you might need in the cottage. You will leave feeling pampered and refreshed.

  • Everything about this trip exceeded our expectations. Anne goes out of her way to make every aspect of your stay as seamless and comfortable as possible. We especially appreciated access to the outdoor grill on the lovely patio decorated with twinkly lights, and had the best night ever just grilling, relaxing, turning on the fireplace in the cottage and watching netflix on the flatscreen TV.

  • Kathy & Andy's AirBnB is a wonderful place for a weekend retreat from the city. They are communicative hosts with a very clean space, and if you need anything they are quick to help. Thanks so much - we would stay here again in a heartbeat!

  • My partner and I had a lot of fun here. We came to hike in Shenandoah, but ended up really enjoying the spots local to the Airbnb. The Flea Market of Edinburg was a blast, and the food is great. The Airbnb itself is perfect for a weekend getaway. The hosts were super responsive and nice, and the space was very clean and cozy. I would definitely recommend to others!

The Glendobbin Room's cozy atmosphere is a great place to plan adventures in and around historic Winchester Va. Just minutes from the Downtown Walking Mall and centrally located to a number of Civil War sites and battlegrounds. In the Spring, join us for our annual Apple Blossom Festival! We hope to make your stay a comfortable and enjoyable one whether you choose to stay in or relax in the evenings after an active day of hiking or site seeing.
2 adults, 1 queen bed, private bathroom, refrigerator freezer, microwave, and keurig.
The Glendobbin Room has its own private access and is part of larger home located in a neighborhood of houses with 5 private acres.
  • My husband and I are artists and travel to art shows and events using AirBnB exclusively nowadays for our stays. We enjoy meeting our hosts as normally we are gone long hours all day and usually only see them at the initial meeting. Our stay at Glendobbin was great! It's in a beautiful location-it convenient to the event we were participating in and easy to locate. We had the option of driving via the Internet or some beautiful back roads going and coming. It is located in apple orchard country and the large home is situated on a hill with a sweeping tree covered lawn. It's in one of those locations that feels like it is in the middle of nowhere and yet is just a short distance from the city of Winchester. Perfect ambiance! We had just enough time each morning at sunrise to view the sunrise, drink our coffee and watch the deer feeding in the far edges of the lawn! Communication with Jeff was excellent. Our room included a comfortable bed, small refrigerator with freezer, Keurig coffee maker, wi-fi, TV, private entrance with attached bathroom. beautifully decorated and if we had chosen to use it, an outside patio fire pit. It was a restful place to return to after a long hot day at outdoor shows! We would recommend this spot to anyone!

Elevated 900 sq ft space with vaulted ceiling and 500 sq ft of wrap-around deck in the treetops. 3 bedrooms (2 Queens + full-size futon which is 6" narrower than a Queen and therefore definitely a bit tight for 2 adults) and 2 full bathrooms. Adjacent to National Forest land and just 40 miles from the Thornton Gap entrance to Shenandoah Nat'l Park and Skyline Drive. Our home is within the Bryce Resort - offering (in season) golf, mountain biking, zipline, and lake with beach, kayaks/canoes
This is the “treehouse” of my childhood dreams, and I know you’ll enjoy it too. As you can see in our photos, the Treehouse has a wrap around deck which is 500 sq ft and offers peace and quiet. We have lots of tables and chairs on the deck for bird/critter watching, eating, playing cards, etc. There is outdoor lighting on the deck. Please note: Because the house sits at tree top level, we advise against young children as guests. The main room has a vaulted ceiling and a wall of windows making it feel like you are living in the treetops. The windows look out onto the deck and into the trees making the home feel like more than just 900 sqft. We have three separate bedrooms and two baths. Two of the bedrooms have a queen bed. The third bedroom has a new full-size futon; this room has a TV and DVD player (no cable or satellite). The master bedroom has an attached bath. All of your linens and towels are provided. There is a washer/dryer and a dishwasher. Due to the extremely hilly terrain, cell phone service is sketchy. We can typically (but not always) get signal from Verizon to allow voice calls, but other cell data connectivity is spotty at best. The home does not have cable/wifi, but the Resort Clubhouse does. The kitchen has plenty of dishes, pots and pans. We have a coffee maker, a George Foreman Grill, and a pancake griddle. The fridge, oven, and microwave are in very good shape. We have 2 driveways, one on each side of the house. Both are steep and narrow and require that you turn around at the top. Please do NOT attempt to back down. The first 40' of the steepest (and most convenient) drive is paved so it's entirely manageable with most any vehicle. If you utilize the other (totally unpaved) driveway, you need to drive up in a SLOW and STEADY manner to prevent spin-outs and tearing up the driveway. It is not feasible to accommodate a large RV, towable trailer, boat, or such at the treehouse. Parking more than 1 vehicle per driveway is nearly certain to require some vehicle jockeying. If you would like to book the Treehouse, we ask that you tell us a little about yourself either by completing the Profile section of your Airbnb account or within your Inquiry to book. We've been on Airbnb since 2014. We hope you'll read our profile. Please note a few house rules: - There is no grill and no grilling is allowed on the deck. - No smoking on the property. - The small loft is solely for storage and is not for guest use. - The fireplace is not for guest use. It is not in working condition. - No pets please.
Our home is located within the Bryce Resort community. The resort is NOT a gated community and is very much on the low-key end of the spectrum (as we prefer), so - while not "fancy" - it is very quiet and yet still has a very nice variety of activities. Visit the Bryce Resort website for information on golf, mountain biking, a zipline and more. There are specific days/hours of operation and reservations may be required for these activities; please check the Bryce website to see fees and schedule. Lake Laura has a 3 mile walking trail that is open to the public year-round for free (can also serve as an easy-to-moderate mountain bike trail). For a small fee during the summer, Lake Laura offers beach access and kayak/canoe/paddle boat rental (check Bryce Resort website for summer schedule). The "town" of Basye is really just the resort. There is a clubhouse restaurant/bar. Just outside the resort, there is a brewhouse/restaurant, ice cream stand, and a very small market and gas station. Mt. Jackson is 11 miles away and offers a full grocery, State liquor store. Woodstock is a 30-minute drive and has most everything including a Lowe's, Walmart, Cracker Barrel, etc. Zoom out on the map in the listing to see some suggested points of interest. The resort is very hilly. We enjoy long walks for great exercise. I enjoy biking within the resort, but it is very strenuous due to the hills.
  • Just a great place overall from the fact that it’s a TREEHOUSE to all the personal touches and information to explore the surrounding areas. Even on the rainy days we had board games and movies to watch. Just a cozy place with everything you need and a great place to come back to after a long day of hiking!

    Kari2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • The stay at the treehouse was incredible! We loved relaxing for our 2 night stay and exploring the town around us. The guest book and the binder put together by Mark was amazing. I also loved that there were basic needs in the house like soap, shampoo, toilet paper, spices, etc. Loved the DVD collection that was available for us to binge watch Simpson’s at night while we relaxed inside since it was colder. The wild life was awesome around the treehouse too. The first driveway was paved halfway up and my 2019 Toyota Corolla was able to make it up with ease. We didn’t attempt the back driveway because the top was significantly more convenient for us with no steps. Mark was very communicative about the stay also. We already have our next trip booked! PS. Don’t hike Orkney spring trail off alum spring rd. We couldn’t pass through the main road to Marks recommended spot because of a downed tree and found this trail. It was a 35% grade and was super hard despite what all trails said. I’m still sore today. Lol! If you do decide to, only go to the view point. The super steep treck to the top brings you to the peek in the middle of the woods with no view. Wasn’t worth it.

    Amber2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Mark and Linda are great hosts! I had a great time at their tranquil treehouse. It is everything it is described as and more. I would highly recommend staying here!

    Mackenzie2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • What a special and beautiful place this is, and at such a reasonable price! The location is gorgeous and the treehouse is both a great place to hang out and a wonderful base from which to explore the area. This is our second time---we'll be back! And Mark makes the process very easy and smooth.

    Katherine2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! This place is truly amazing...loved everything about it. It felt very homey, cozy, and was sparkling clean. I was so happy that the heating worked because it got a bit chilly at night. I can't wait to come back and see what it looks like during winter and spring! Highly recommend!

  • If you're looking for a secluded getaway, this is the perfect place. The pictures are an exact representation of what to expect when you get there. The hot tub was already warmed and waiting for us, which was great after the long drive down. One thing to note though, is that you have to take all trash to a public trash disposal. The closest one is about a 30 minute drive, so be mindful of what you'll be throwing away, and the smells that may go with them.

    Devin2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is fantastic! Nestled in the middle of mountain trails and a beautiful river, we were never far from anything we wanted to do. The cabin itself was immaculately clean and the yard was very well kept. Needless to say, but the hot tub was spectacular! 10/10, will try and reserve again!

  • Great place to stay at! Enjoyed the beautiful outdoors hiking and was extremely thankful for the jacuzzi! Beautiful cabin that we hope to rent again. Highly recommend.

    Renee2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • House appears to be very new and everything is in excellent shape. It was very clean. Appreciated the grill and accessories even though the rain ruined our plans to use it. Hot tub is great and there's evidence to prove it is taken care of regularly by a professional. We thought it would be more private - pictures don't show there's a house on each side and one in back (but neighbors keep to themselves). Note, the walk to the river is more of a hike. Communication from owner was very helpful. We had a great stay, thank you.

    Jessica2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect getaway from the city - highly recommend! The cabin itself was absolutely beautiful and had all the amenities you would need and more. Everything from the kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms were well stocked and felt very homey. Culin was a great host and provided us with all the information needed for check-in, check-out, and local hot spots!

    Ashley2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I loved our 2 night stay at Blue Moon Cabin! It was VERY clean and surpassed all of our expectations. Culin was an amazing host, he gave us so many great suggestions for the local attractions as well as very fast response times. It was the perfect private getaway while staying in Luray! Our only disappointment was that many of the local breweries and wineries are only open on weekends during this time of year, so we were unable to visit them during our stay. Fortunately, we picked up some wine from the local Walmart and had a great time enjoying the large front porch and rocker chairs at the cabin. (:

    Emily2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean place and had everything you needed for a cozy cabin getaway! Culin was great with recommendations and always prompt with check-in and responses. My mom, sister and I really enjoyed our time there. We went to Hawksbill Brewery one day and took a walk down to the river.

    Chase2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay! Culin was quick to respond and offered lots of local tips. The cabin was clean and well decorated. The hot tub and fire pit were really nice and overall, it was a fantastic trip.

    Lydia2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Culin’s cabin is amazing, it looks just like a magazine model, everything is well taken care of and the style is outstanding. It made me want to move to a cabin just as adorable as that, I loved the walls, the kitchen and all the details, I am for sure gonna try and go back with more time. My husband and I had a blast on his birthday getaway, especially enjoying the hot tub. Thank you Culin for everything.

  • Izzy's place exceeded our expectations in every way. A perfect location, to both the town of Front Royal and the entrance to Skyline Drive. The apartment was cozy, clean and well-appointed. Love all the time personal paintings and little touches. I highly recommend Izzy's place to any Travelers, and would choose it again if returning do the area. Roger & Vicki

Most of the art is available for sale. Annie's Cottage is perfect for hosting two couples or a family of four. The family room and kitchen offer a spacious room to relax and play games, watch TV, read books, or enjoy a home-cooked meal. The ceiling fans offer a pleasant breeze during the summer and the patio off the kitchen is a great place to enjoy a French press coffee while you take in the morning sunrise. Ruritan Park is only a 5-minute walk from the cottage and includes a baseball diamond, a basketball court, a covered picnic area, and a jungle gym for the children. We’re happy to share some secrets about how to maximize your farm experience (horses, cows, goats, and chickens), all in an easy 30 minute family hike.
  • Hayley and Brett are very courteous and attentive hosts who leave thoughtful touches and a clean and cozy space to stay!

  • This was a very comfortable place for us and our infant daughter! Easy/practical/nicely put together and pleasant!

    Ellie2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • We are so happy that we chose this cottage! Hayley and Brett were very welcoming with lots of tips of where to go and do, their cottage is amazing, really clean with a nice patio and a huge kitchen to hang out. We stayed for 5 nights and we enjoyed it a lot, definitely when we visit this area again this cottage will be our first choice. Thank you Hayley and Brett Be always well 🙏 Georgios, Christina, Micah & Hara

  • Great location. Perfect getaway for a weekend to disconnect. Go hiking and explore the area or enjoy local wines from many wineries nearby.

    Suzanne2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place to get away from the city to disconnect. Annie’s cottage was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. I was thrilled to find makeup cleansing towelettes in the bathroom and Pat enjoyed making coffee in the morning, which was provided. Hayley and Brett go out of their way to cover any questions you may have and are great to communicate with. Wish we had the opportunity to meet their pups. Maybe next time! Thank you for such a great stay! Megan and Pat ...and Jack & Lenny Bean

    Megan2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This little cottage by a crossroads in the beautiful Virginia countryside was a great getaway for us. We almost wished the trip to family in Front Royal was longer than 25 minutes because the roads were so beautiful. And yes, we ogled horses and stopped in a winery. The space was roomy and comfortable, with a back porch for sitting and stargazing. Thanks for a great stay!

    Ann2019-08-21T00:00:00Z
  • This was a well located, very easy to reach place for our visit to the area. The cottage is decorated in a very clean, contemporary cottage style. We were very comfortable there and the kitchen was well stocked (though we didn't do much beyond coffee- we could have!). We didn't get to meet our hosts in person, but they were very accessible and helpful. The only bathroom is in the master bedroom which was fine for us since the other bedroom was occupied by a family member- just something to keep in mind. It was clean and just as described.

  • Perfect. No internet. Perfect. Quiet. We did not know there was not gonna to be internet but once we communicated to the people we needed to it was amazing to have no phone dings. So quiet and peaceful and great sunrises and sunsets. We loved it!

The house is close to George Washington National Forest, Hiking, Biking, Rock Climbing, wildlife (deer, turkeys, sometimes bear!), the pond is literally out the window with fish. You’ll love the large FIREPLACE, the semi-stocked LOG BAR, the view of the pond, the pine forests you can walk through, the wildlife, the views, the location. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids), and furry friends (pets).
-Semi-stocked LOG BAR where you can craft a cocktail by the fireplace. -You can also sit in the gazebo and enjoy the breeze on a nice day. -Within a 5 minute drive of George Washington National Forest. A couple hikes close by: -Strasburg reservoir hike -Lower buzzard rocks hike -Kennedy's Peak hike -Woodstock Tower hike You can quickly search them online, the app does not allow me to put links! -25 min drive to Skyline Drive! -** 2 of the 3 BR's are attached to the garage beside house, right outside the door of the house, but detached. No guests have had an issue with the layout!
  • Justin’s cabin is a cozy, natural getaway! If you’re looking to escape the city- this is the place. We loved drinking wine by the fireplace and hiking the local trails. If you need WiFi and modern amenities, this is not for you- But we loved the chance to unplug and enjoy nature. We will certainly be back!

    Marina2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for peace and quiet to get away from it all, this is the place for you! Quiet, country setting without service.

    Libbi2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot in a beautiful and remote location. We stayed only one night but would love to come back one day with our dog and explore the area more! Cabin was cozy and rustic and had everything we needed to disconnect and be cozy for a night in the mountains. Loved the gazebo! No cell service or wifi but we knew that going in so we were prepared and actually enjoyed it. Thanks, Justin!

    Sarah2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great remote place to getaway from city. Last couple miles are paved road, so if the weather is not good it might be a little challenging to get up there with a sedan car. I highly recommend bringing your own drinking water, tap water has a sulfur smell, nothing bad but I would imagine drinking would be hard. Also there is not much around, its better to bring your own food and cook, instead of driving down. Side note, there was no hair dryer, or we weren’t able to find it, its better to brining.

    Jessica2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you need a quiet break from the city, this is your place. The area is gorgeous, and there are beautiful trails nearby. Bring your groceries and enjoy a secluded weekend away. The house is super cute with a log bar and a fireplace. Our dog couldn't have been happier running free is the big back yard, taking long walks down the road, and hiking through the trials. It was just what we were looking for!

    Jessica2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most phenomenal time at Justin’s place. The most authentic cabin situated in the woods, it was absolutely stunning to drink from the bar and overlook the lake. Serenity ! It was about a 35 minute drive down into woodstock which we loved the diner down there, an extremely auThentic experience. Everyone we encounter were so lovely and warm. We would have loved to have gone hiking but we were snowed out which was just lovely anyway !! Throughly enjoyed.

This apartment is in a older home located in heart of town. Walking distance to Resturants, Brewhouse, Shops, Theatre, and town events, Location is great. I have my business in this house on lower level. The apartment has it's own entrance. It has 3 rooms and a bath. I love this house and want to share it. Think you will love it too.
This place is close to everything, walking distance to Springhouse that has a bar and great food. Woodstock Cafe is very cozy and has great food, beer, and wine, Brewhouse makes their own beer. A lot of shops on Main St. All this is in walking distance. The town has a lot of history. I have remodeled this area and it is very comfortable. The Dome is over 800 sqft with an 8ft tall ceiling at the middle.  The Dome is equipped with a zipper door and has a canvas cover with windows and screens and features a large bay window that allows views of Little North Mountain and a full view of the farm.  There is a solar exhaust fan and wooden floors as well as a queen bed with linens and some causal seating.  There is no electricity or running water and no WIFI. We do provide solar-powered and battery-powered lights.
The Dome is located in a large grassy area with ample space near a creek.  You can pitch additional tents (not provide) near the Dome for $10 each. There is easy road access and on-site parking.  You are welcome to explore the farm along the mowed paths.  Please be aware that we do have cattle on the farm, so do not open any gates and stay clear of the fences as they may well be electrified. Outside, there is a fire pit and seating area as well as a grill and a dining area.  Some firewood is provided and there is additional firewood available for purchase on-site.  We also provide complimentary local beer or wine, as requested.  Lastly, we are in the process of building modern outhouse near-by with a toilet and sink and a solar shower. In the meantime we have a very clean portapotty but no shower facilities. Disclaimer: If it has rained a lot in the past few days the area will be muddy, please plan accordingly!
  • Our weekend at the dome was amazing. Remy and Jeremy are wonderful, responsive hosts. The dome was very cozy and comfortable despite the rain and low temps. We took advantage of the fire pit, the grill (with delicious steaks from the farm), and Remy's decadent popovers for breakfast. Can't wait to go back!

    Bryan2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Dome! It was such a cozy spot and the hosts were very responsive to any questions. Thank you!

  • Such an amazing space. Decorated beautifully and secluded. It’s such a romantic space. We had a great time just drinking beer around the fire. I’d highly suggest this place for anyone just looking to get away :)

  • My fiancé and I came here to celebrate our engagement, and was a surprise for her. We had a great time and loved the dome. It was warm and cozy and loved how pet friendly it was—our dog loved running around the fields! There were some thoughtful touches that made our stay even better. We will be back!

    Laura2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great time at the dome despite the cold (mid 30s) and wet weather. The dome is entirely waterproof and the heater and blankets keep it warm enough. Perhaps the most thoughtful touch was the carbon monoxide detector (I had brought my own just in case)! Good to have when using gas in an enclosed space. Highly recommend first arriving during daylight hours if possible. The entire area is quite dark at night, and if it’s been cloudy the solar lights won’t be on! Watch out for the fence :) The dome is near a small gravel road but quite far from the busy highway. An occasional car would drive by but it didn’t bother us. Overall it is a great place to stay when you’d like a short quiet getaway. The dome is quite large and has plenty of thoughtful amenities. The flashlights and lanterns were especially helpful. The fire pit and grill area look nice, and we hope to return when it isn’t raining to use them! Remy was available if needed and responds to messages quickly. Go check out the dome!

We enjoyed the comfortable and warm bed, picking up BBQ from New Star Market for a picnic outside the dome, a fun library book sale downtown, browsing the Strasburg Emporium, and a trip to Star in the Valley Estate Winery with our dog. The Christmas decorations in the dome were a fun surprise! Host was very responsive to all communication. We can't wait to be back when it is a little warmer!

    Reagan2019-12-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Dome is an incredible space to get away. There are so many little touches to make you feel at home and comfortable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for something a little different

    Sean2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Dome was the perfect getaway from the city. It was a chilly night, but with the propane heater and extra blankets we were cozy and warm all night. We really appreciated all of the thoughtful touches and quick responses. We definitely recommend visiting Star in the Valley Estate Winery less than 10 minutes away. It was the perfect addition to the star gazing theme.

  • The house was everything that we needed and then some. There are thoughtful touches all over the place to make sure you have a comfortable stay. We had so much fun with the fire pits (there are three!) and the hot tub. Brenda is thoughtful and goes the extra mile. Stay here for a wonderful escape from the city. Take care of the place so others may enjoy it, too!

    Shanaz2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • This house is truly set up for 5-star stay! The host was welcoming and tentative to any needs or questions we had. The house itself was very clean and very cozy, where you could relax and watch a movie or play a game of chess. If you were looking to enjoy some air, the side patio had the large tub and plenty of space for some catch. The kitchen was also fully stalked with kitchen ware and plenty of cooking space. The 2 main floor bedrooms were SUPER COMFORTABLE! Loved this stay very much! Will definitely return!

    Kimberly2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay! It was well kept, clean, and in a gorgeous location. We had everything we needed and more. The thoughtful gifts and touches made us feel so welcome. The hot tub was lovely! The house either met or exceeded our expectations!

    Amy2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Great house in the mountains with tons of amenities and fantastic hot tub. Very quiet with lots of options for hiking pretty close

    Jacob2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This is by far the best Airbnb I've stayed in. The amenities and special touches such as a personal note and welcome goodies basket were top notch. Brenda was always accessible and went out of her way to assist with any questions we had. We are looking forward to visiting her home in warmer weather. Thank you for making this such an enjoyable vacation for us!

    Laurie2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I had a great stay. We will definitely try to make it back again. Thanks for the wonderful stay!

    Jonathan2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • A fabulous place to stay! We stayed with our two young children and my parents and the house had something for everyone. Books, games and puzzles, toys and a room that had my three year old entranced, and the wonderful hot tub. The kitchen (indeed the whole house) is extremely well-equipped and stocked with all the essentials. The location is remote enough to feel that you’re away from it all but conveniently close to Luray and other hubs. Brenda was fantastic to communicate with and our whole experience was just a delight. Would recommend to anyone and we will definitely be coming back in the future.

    Nadine2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I knew dream view house would be perfect for myself, my husband and young adult daughter, and it was even better than I expected or that photos can show. The front deck was a favorite place to hang out with our dogs, and the location was close to so many towns —five breweries, Luray Caverns, great hiking trails, etc. After a day of adventure coming home to this lovely place was paradise! Now, I want to come back to visit soon. We drove up from Florida, but it was less than 2 hours from my daughters DC area place, so a perfect meeting place & common ground for us. The dog beds and outside porches made the pups welcome too!

Cozy romantic couple's getaway repurposed from an historic 18th century water mill's cooperage (where barrel staves were built). Great for JMU & EMU parents weekend. Perfect for a honeymoon or babymoon! Covered deck overlooks the picturesque mill and water wheel, providing relaxing sounds from the creek. Located in the ghost village of Moore's Store, now surrounded by orchards and farms. Private yet convenient to wineries, breweries, ski resorts, hiking, caverns and rope adventures.
Open concept cabin with two sleeping areas (doors only in the bathroom) and a large deck to bring the creek sounds in. I raised my daughter here when we had no running water - just electricity. Now grown and with a family of her own, recent renovations were lovingly and imaginatively made to provide a comfortable place when visiting (and entice them to visit granny more often!). Filled with items salvaged from the mill such as grain chutes, mill auger, flour packer, pulleys and timber framing beams made from rare wormy chestnut that make this a creative and unique space to enjoy.
Quaker Thomas Moore was a surveyor and pioneer who settled the area, obtaining a large land grant from Lord Fairfax in the 1750s. Moore's Store was one of the first autonomous settlements in the Shenandoah Valley that centered around the merchant mill and also featured a sawmill, foundry, cobbler shop, doctor offices, harness shop, slave quarters and post office. General Custer burned the mill and family plantation home during the Civil War. A sawmill fire destroyed nearly the entire village in the 1870s. Moore's Store was named for descendant George Moore who died in the Civil War. Rebuilt twice, the grist mill and store operated under the Moore family for over 200 years until the 1930s when a dynamite accident claimed the life of the last miller, George Armentrout, who had married the widow of George Moore. Just a few houses now remain along with the mill, granary, cobbler's home, and harness shop. Neighbor's dog Malachi, who lives in the former doctor's home, is the unofficial mayor and might greet you when you arrive.
  • Great place to escape the stress of life and just unwind.

    Joseph2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • 10/10 would recommend. The house is very charming and gives a cozy cabin feel. The creek is right outside the back porch and provides an excellent sound track for a relaxing weekend.

    Joshua2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for a quiet getaway in the woods...look no more!! This place is magical. I recommend bringing your own food to cook in her awesome kitchen because the nearest restaurants are at least 15 min away. Also, be sure to check out Showalters cidery for some amazing views! Thank you Joan!!!!

    Elinor2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • The Grist Mill exceeded all expectations and there were tons of great flea markets to check out in the area. Great food and beautiful scenic drives nearby. We never wanted to leave the cabin!

    Mariko2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Joan's place was truly special. Situated next to a lovely creek, the entire cabin had thoughtful touches and beautiful decor that instantly made us feel at home. Good location to relax and get away from it all (make sure to see the stars at night)! We will certainly be back again

    Catherine2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Peace, quiet, relaxation, the typical qualities you would hope to have on a sweet lil getaway. Joan’s place was amazing and even more beautiful in person. Would love to come back to see the greenery surrounding the property when it is warmer! Even in colder weather, though, the mill was so perfect.

    Alyssa2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This place was absolutely amazing! From the detail in the decor to the beautiful location on the creek. So much rich history and such a unique little cozy home. Couldn’t ask for a better space to escape for a weekend! Joan is a great host and her place is a home away from home.

    Kyle2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a must! Joan was a wonderful host and she has put so much heart and effort to make this place one of a kind. My husband and I were here for our baby-moon and we had one of the most relaxing getaway in months. Location to ski resorts and historic sites is great. I highly recommend this beautiful place.

  • Glenda and Bill's place is a delight. Somewhat secluded but close to shopping and downtown Front Royal. The house is bright and roomy with a beautifully appointed kitchen which I enjoyed cooking in. Our hosts were very responsive. I can recommend Glenda and Bill's place without hesitation.

  • Beautiful location on a farm. This was a perfect spot to rest a night on our roadtrip. Very quiet and private and the morning is glorious. Note if you arrive at night like we did: you'll cross a bridge with no guardrails to get to the home which is rather scary in the dark, but in the morning you'll see it was no big deal :)

TimberWend is a great get-away offering an unparalleled escape. It borders the Shenandoah National Park and overlooks one of the park's least visited waterfalls, Greasy Falls. It has a spectacular fifty-mile view on a clear day and the closest neighbor is one-half mile away.
The driveway to TimberWend is one-half mile long and is not plowed in the winter. SUV recommended. There is a locked gate at the entrance with a key box. Internet is via a satellite dish. It is a 5g system which should provide adequate speeds for most functions, but can be negatively affected by weather and high band width satellite usage. Cell phone service is available to AT&T customers through wifi calling. There is a land line for emergencies.
Our closest neighbor is one-half mile away. The forest is our neighbor and we like the quietness of the place. Very relaxing!
  • This cabin is set in a beautiful location and is the perfect get away! The cabin is well stocked and Bess is an amazing super host.

    Melissa2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our stay, Bess has put the most thoughtful touches into the house. The view was beautiful and the home was cozy, clean, and relaxing.

    Rebecca2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • A little peace of heaven..so relaxing. Everything was so perfect!

    Lotta2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This gorgeous cabin with its enormous picture windows and breathtaking views is a balm to the soul. It was just as described, perfectly clean, comfortable beds and unbeatable location next to the Shenandoah National Park. We were charmed by the little touches from gifted host Bess, who's very thoughtful and replies quickly to any questions. If you're looking for a place to rest, relax and find peace in nature, this is it!

    Coqui2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • A homey, comfortable, and cozy cabin tucked away from the world. The cabin was very clean and had anything you could need, and if you did need anything else, the host was VERY hospitable. It’s about 20-30 minute drive to the nearest restaurant or town. Shenandoah National Park is right in the backyard, there’s a waterfall you can hear from the balcony... which was a fun and easy hike. The driveway was a little daunting, about 1/2 mile of bumpy terrain. Overall it was a great stay and we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend off the grid!

    Madeline2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • A great mountain & forest escape. An incredibly cozy cabin, truly remote. Bess makes sure to stock the cabin full of all possible necessities for cooking, as well as a very nice selection for breakfast in the fridge. Went in the winter, it snowed the following day and you could see the frozen waterfall up close. For hiking, would recommend going onto Skyline drive and doing those hikes if you care more about getting to a nice view or peak. Nearby trails and hikes are nice too. Keep in mind that Google Maps may accidentally lead you to a driveway before the correct one. If you can't find it, or don't think you're at the right gate, keep driving on the road following the address numbers! The road was tackled by a Honda Fit (no snow). Bumpy, but okay as long as your car isn't a convertible or something. A very very nice stay for a couple, wifi is satellite based, so don't expect to stream movies, but there is a nice selection of blueray movies at the cabin. Incredibly cozy, would recommend :)

    Vasil2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking to get away from the city to recharge and enjoy the outdoors then this is the place for you. The cabin is completely secluded tucked away right up to the boundary of Shenandoah National Park. Bess also includes breakfast items (as others have mentioned) which is above and beyond what I have experienced at other Airbnbs. Great Experience!!

    Mike2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • This place is the perfect getaway! When you first walk in, you instantly notice how homey it feels. Bess has included many special little touches in the home to really allow you to settle in comfortably. We enjoyed the breathing views each day from the front porch and the beautiful waterfall to the side of the home. Bess left some breakfast foods in the fridge which we enjoyed. We also enjoyed some great DVD selections while enjoying warmth from the wood burning stove. Please take notice of feedback regarding the type of vehicle you need to manage the road leading to the home. We had an SUV and it was worth it for the drive. We would absolutely book this place again!

  • Had an absolutely fantastic stay in this beautiful and eclectic apartment. Would 100% recommend if you are planning to stay in the area. Donna and Robert had so many thoughtful touches, including local snack and a binder with all the information you need for the area. The bed was super comfy, even comfier than the bed we stayed in the night before in a 4 star hotel! They were quick to communicate with and the place was spotless. This apartment had anything we could have needed. They had the lights on waiting for us when we got there and that was definitely appreciated! Perfect Airbnb hosts! Thanks again Donna and Robert!

She immediately sent me a list of some great places to visit! We were so happy that this Airbnb was dog friendly, incredibly clean, reasonably priced, and very cute. We also appreciated the snacks that Donna and Robert provided, as well as the comfy bed. We loved our stay and would definitely come back!

  • This place is awesome. If you are looking for a quiet and tranquil environment this is it. A great place in and out. The fireplace added that special touch to a cozy night. I would recommend this place to friends and family. Thanks for having extra items to keep busy. It was very thoughtful.

    Erick2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was absolutely beautiful. We used the fireplace every single day, it was definitely the thing I loved the most. The kitchen was stocked so well we actually packed a bunch of things we didn’t need because they were provided. There were tons of games and movies to keep us occupied. Culin also made tons of great recommendations locally. He was very easy to reach and helpful. Truly a beautiful place to stay we had a great time.

    Nelda2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • If you're looking for a great place to get away, Culin's place is fantastic! The location is wonderful - close to Shenandoah (we were able to go for a great hike) as well as Luray Caverns. The house itself is beautiful and so pleasant to stay in. We had a great time using the grill and the fireplace. Definitely planning on a return trip if we can. One thing to note is that the driveway is no joke - we got lucky that there was no ice/snow, but if there had been, our compact rental car would not have been able to make it up the hill!

    Nora2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is exactly what we were looking for! It was a perfect getaway! It’s secluded up a gravel road with mountain views surrounded by trees. It’s got a wrap around deck and screened in porch that’s so cozy. The inside of the cabin is everything you need! The kitchen is fully stocked, plenty of games for adults and kids, and anything else you would need. The fireplace was our favorite part! Culin was an excellent host; he was so helpful and informative and always quick to respond with any questions we had. We can’t wait to plan another getaway there.

Secluded neighborhood with house directly on the Shenandoah river. Private quarters with amazing views from your own deck and sun room. Long dirt road to access property. Cattle likely grazing throughout the road in.
The Shenandoah river is visible and easily accessible right from the door.
Mostly residents in the area because of the secluded back road to get here. It’s a peaceful getaway.
  • Second stay and absolutely loved it!

  • We would definitely recommend staying here. Not only is it very accommodating, stylish, and comfortable. It was conveniently located to town and shopping. Our hosts were extremely friendly. The river refuge has a great price and we definitely plan on coming back to stay another time.

  • We had planned a hiking trip to Shenandoah National Park, but unfortunately the park was closed due to snow. This private airbnb was so warm and cozy that we loved staying in, playing board games, enjoying amenities provided and the gorgeous view. Best birthday refuge ever!!!

  • Stillness and seclusion, despite the other houses nearby. Front Royal is only 10 minutes away if you need to be social.

  • The cottage is a well designed space with a good supply of kitchen, bathroom and vacationing items. We were very pleased with the wonderful location, adjacent to the Park, which was perfect for a hiking vacation. January weather was excellent for being out without many other folks on the trails.

    Andrew2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Great cabin as a woman traveling alone felt really safe especially since you can close the gate and it is in a neighborhood though you would not know it. The claw foot tub heated floors gazebo porch and quaint decorations and layout really made my two night stay so relaxing. And being able to hike from the cabin is a huge plus !
