  • Mary made my stay at the Tiny House absolutely fantastic! From her thoughtful touches, to her amazing hospitality— I couldn’t have asked for a better and more accommodating host! :) I thought it was very sweet when she messaged me a few hours before my stay to ask if I had any food allergies or restrictions as she likes to leave a complimentary breakfast for guests on their first day! She also had very detailed instructions on how everything in the Tiny House worked from the heater, to the grill, and the WiFi, etc... I also loved the cute chairs on the front deck so that you could relax and watch the fire pit! I would definitely come back again!

  • Great property and cool tiny house.

    Blake2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • The photos/descriptions are very accurate. The host actually provided much more than we had anticipated. We essentially packed for a camping trip because we had assumed some essentials may be needed but Mary is an extremely thoughtful host! Just a heads up when trying to check in after arriving, it seems that AT&T has good service at the Tiny House but Verizon is very spotty. (Although Mary kindly offered wifi and a charging station, we just didn't feel the need to be on our phones while there). We were SO pleased with our stay.

    Sarah2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house is great! When we got there Mary had left us some water, wood, breakfast for the next day, propane, and directions for how to use everything inside the house. As others have written the mattressi s really comfortable. Make sure to read the description Mary has about how to find it, Google Maps missed by about 100 yards. I have ATT and my reception was fine. I'll be going back to explore more of the property and nearby Farmville.

    Adrian2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • I was blown away. Mary asked me if i had dietary restrictions because she provided breakfast, and i mentioned a dairy allergy. I didnt even ask and she provided me with almond milk, it was very thoughtful and kind of her! It rained the whole time but it didn't effect my trip. I was perfectly happy staying inside! It was super cute and I'm very impressed. Nothing was left without thought. If I'm traveling nearby I'm hoping i can nail down a reservation here again.

    Faith2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • My second stay there and as wonderful as the first.

    Charlotte2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect place for a quiet, chill weekend away. Mary is helpful and kind and a perfect host.

Charlotte Court House, VA, United States

Cosy little glamping cabin in the woods. Enjoy the simplicity of slowing down and having less. Less hurrying, less things, getting back to the basics. That is what you will find here. A simple little setting with just enough amenities to get you by.
IMPORTANT TO READ BEFORE YOU BOOK YOUR STAY. This is a one room cabin with an outhouse and separate outdoor shower. There is no running water in the cabin, but there are water dispensers for washing and drinking. There is no ac or heat, although there is an overhead fan, and it remains relatively cool in the summer as it sits in a wooded area. Warm bedding and blankets will be provided during cooler months and possibly a space heater. All the more reason to get cosy. ;) Pool is open seasonally but hot tub is available year round. Beautiful to sit in, in the evening and watch the stars. The outhouse has a composting toilet. Depending on the length of your stay, we will need to empty the toilet as it can only hold so much. Overall it is a very pleasant little outhouse and you don't feel like you are in one at all. The shower is outdoors, but private. It is steps away from the cabin. Bring flip flops or slip on sandals to avoid having to walk back with wet feet. This is also seasonal and will be turned off once the first freeze comes, through early spring. No showers are available during this time. There is a mini fridge, microwave and small charcoal grill. If you bring a lot of food, we suggest you bring a cooler. We will provide charcoal for your first night, but please bring your own for anything further. There is a small fire pit and seating that is very enjoyable in the evenings! Again, we will provide wood for the first night, but please bring your own for further use. We have a mini kitchen area, basic dishes, utensils, drink ware, hand towels/potholders, dish soap and a skillet for the grill. If you need anything further, you will need to bring it. We encourage you to enjoy the simplicity of the cabin and return to the basics. Less is more, and we hope that it actually enhances your stay. We highly recommend you bring shoes that slip on and off easily to remove shoes at the door. We ask that you try and not wear shoes in the cabin. This will help keep the space clean for you and future guests. This is a GLAMPING experience. We believe in getting out in nature but understand that it is not for everyone. This is a step up from tent camping, but it is still camping in a way. Please know this before booking. This is a SMOKE FREE property. No wifi, but for Verizon users we typically have great service and you can work off of a hotspot if needed. Oh, and one more thing. NO PETS please. We have three resident cats that do not like dogs, or any other animals for that matter. They are very good guard cats. ;)They do enjoy humans. Please know this if you are allergic to cats.
We think you will love staying here. It's peacefully nestled in the country. You can hear the sounds of nature all around. We are under 10 minutes away from the quaint little town of Appomattox. There is a lovely bookstore that we frequent, with a coffee shop. You can grab coffee and a light breakfast or a yummy sandwich for lunch. Peruse the bookshelves for your next read or bring your own. There are some local restaurants as well, one of our favorites being a family-run Italian restaurant with the best pizza in town! Explore the history that is in Appomattox. It's fascinating to learn more about the Civil War and how it ended right here. You can float down the James River or hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains (about 1hr away). Take a quick trip into Lynchburg to the Historic Downtown section (20 minutes away) for a small city experience. There is food, art, shopping and more! To learn about all these places, see my guidebook in the listing.
  • Wonderful little “glamping” experience *highly recommend*

    Alex2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cabin! What we liked: the stylish & cute space, the warm bed, the hot tub, making a fire, sleeping in fresh air, exploring the area, reading books in the sun. Highly recommended!

    Iris2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A magical and enchanting stay. Loved every second at the cabin. Rustic yet modern. Would recommend to anyone!!!

    Rachael2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Fernhedge was a great little getaway! Everything was extremely clean and organized, and Amanda gave us everything we needed. The location was nice right in VA and an easy drive to NC. It was like we were camping which was exactly what we were looking for! No insulation so be wary in the winter. The hot tub felt great on the cold nights though. Would def recommend and hopefully come back down. : )

    Dominique2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • I wanted a space where I could escape for the weekend, and relax. Amanda, your place gave me exactly that and you truly do shine through the little details. I made so many special memories, and am already planning more returns. Thank you to the moon and back for sharing your space. If you are considering booking here, I recommend it wholeheartedly. I hope you, as well, make amazing memories here!

    Moram2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Fernhedge was the perfect weekend getaway! We enjoyed stargazing, staying warm in the cozy cabin, and Amanda's recommendations for hiking, coffee and a bookstore just down the road. We hope to come back again and will definitely recommend this place to our friends that want to get out of town and relax!

    Brittany2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely tiny house to spend a night or two, and the hot tub is enough reason to book here. Definitely expect something closer to camping if you're staying in colder months, as the place is not insulated so you'll wake to frigid temps even with the space heater going. Worked great for my needs, and I'd definitely book here again.

    Chris2019-11-08T00:00:00Z

  • My husband, 1 year old and I stayed for 3 days and loved it. Our daughter had a great time visiting with Marigold and the chickens and rabbits. The space is great for letting kids run around. They had a fire pit made up for us but we didn't get a chance to use it. Inside we had everything we needed to stay in and relax. The master bed was comfy and the layout was perfect for us. Can't wait to visit again and see what animals they will have added to their little farm.

They were quick to respond and offered flexibility of check in and out which we appreciated. Their home was cozy, very clean, and their animals were an added plus! Would definitely recommend their place.

The farmhouse is a wonderful destination for those looking for a quiet place to stay in a farm setting. Surrounded by hayfields, cow pastures, and mature hardwood trees, this third generation home, dating back to 1919, provides ample space for guests to relax and enjoy themselves. Recently renovated using wood cut from the property and farmhouse style decor (Joanna Gaines inspired), this home is the perfect place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Guests may access all of the spaces at the farmhouse that they may need to use and may be given instructions on other areas of the property that can be visited . The closest neighbors are on the back side of the property and include Amish families. Guests must respect their privacy. On most days horses, cows, and other livestock can be seen grazing in the fields. In addition, the host has beef cattle on their farm. The home has a large front porch where guests can take in the scenery. This is truly a place to get away and enjoy each other's company as well as rest and relaxation.
The farmhouse is located in Charlotte County, Virginia, rich with history. Many historical sites are within a short driving distance from this home such as the Appomattox Surrender Grounds, High Bridge Trail and Red Hill. Also, Longwood College, Hampden Sydney College, Liberty University, Randolph College, Lynchburg College, and the Museum of the Confederacy are close by.
  • D.L. & Pam have created an amazing farmhouse experience! By far the best place to relax. They provided us with information of local wineries, parks, restaurants and other activities to do while in town. We were a group of 5 and felt that this was the perfect place to getaway. We got the opportunity to meet the family Dog “Mac” who was incredibly sweet and therapeutic all at the same time ! We would come here again in a heartbeat! Loved the opportunity to get to know a new place as beautiful as this one !

    Jessica2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing, Welcoming Farmhouse You will love your stay at this spacious, well appointed home in the country. The hosts have thought of everything and maintain the home impeccably. Every last thing about the house made me feel comfortable and welcome. There is plenty of room for a family, if you have a large group. It’s also cozy enough to feel just right if you are traveling solo or as a couple. The hosts have local information to share, if you are looking for dining (e.g., in Charlotte Court House or nearby Farmville), wineries, or historical sites. I recommend the Farmhouse enthusiastically and would stay here again in a heartbeat.

    Kristin2020-03-07T00:00:00Z

  • The farmhouse was amazing. The views and calm of the area was just wanted we needed for a little rest and relaxation. We loved the selection of games! The kitchen was well stocked and beautifully done! The pond was lovely. We had plenty of towels and sheets. We have Verizon and did get a signal outside the house, enough to check emails, send texts, etc. Charlotte Courthouse was just around the corner with a Dollar General if you forgot any groceries. Thanks for a great weekend, we'll be back soon!

My place is close to FarmVille and local colleges, and historic Appomattox . You’ll love my place because of the views, the coziness, the country setting. My place is good for couples and families (with kids). It is close to the High Bridge State Park Trail.
This is a rustic retreat back to a simpler time. The house and the surrounding property is listed on the historic registry. But yes there is a full kitchen, hot Water and air conditioning both cool and heat.
We are about 15 minutes from Long Wood University and Hampton Sydney. We are about 35 minutes from Liberty University.
  • Great location near Farmville, Appomattox, and High Bridge trail. The cabin is really cute and at a very private spot off the road. It’s very quiet and peaceful with a screened porch. The kitchen is equipped with the basics. The bathroom is upstairs with a standing shower. We would go again!

Country but Classy describes this stay at its best. Every room in this one story house has been custom designed with hand made pieces from our very own hands. The lighting is hand welded and the beds hand made. Giving this stay a very peaceful and cozy feel just outside of the Farmville city limits. Just a few miles from Hampden-Sydney, Longwood University, Centra Hospital and Green Front. Close enough to enjoy the city but far enough out to escape the city buzz.

Wilmer was quick to respond to any correspondence. Travel to the cabin is very easy and Main St in town is less than a 10 minute drive. For larger groups, the lodge is a very short walk away, but still allows privacy for the smaller cabin. We would definitely stay here again.

  • My husband and I had a great relaxing stay. The cabin was so cute and cozy! Tucked away right outside of town. Loved the hot tub, and sitting on the back porch with our coffee. The bed was super comfortable and the cabin had everything we needed. Definitely reccomend macados to eat, great food for a great price. Cannot wait to go back!

    Jessica2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay! Highly recommend. This was the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The hot tub and fireplace and just hanging out in the cabin was the highlight of our trip. We hiked the high bridge trail which was very clean and good for beginners. We strolled into town a few times and it was only 10-15 minutes at most. We would love to come back and rent the larger lodge next door.

  • The Weekend Getaway cabin was perfect for a weekend escape. We loved the cozy space, especially with the fireplace and hot tub. It had everything we needed for the weekend. Hope to be back soon!

    Amanda2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was charming and cozy! Absolutely lovely and secluded space. Between the fire pit, fireplace, deck, and hottub-I couldnt have asked for more!

    Sara2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for the lovely stay! We were able to do so much during our short stay, including walk the High Bridge, get out for a Winery and Brewery visit, and spend time in the hot tub and next to the firepit. Will be back to stay in the larger cedar ridge lodge in April!

    Meredith2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The weekender cabin was an amazing getaway for Valentine’s Day:) the hot tub is what sold us on the place and it didn’t disappoint! It overlooked the woods so we felt like the only people in the world. The cabin was incredibly clean and smelled like pine and wood, so refreshing! Definitely remembering this for any future getaways I need again!

Ever wanted to know what it felt like to live in a one room log cabin? Now you have the chance! This cabin from the 1840s was meticulously reassembled on a 500 acre farm. The cabin sits right on the James River. Come and enjoy the quiet, the river and the scenery and forget the hustle and bustle of the city. No electric or water but a great fireplace, bed and porch overlooking the river. Lots of hiking trails and a canoe provided. We have just added an outdoor Kichen and bath facility
This one room log cabin is on the James River. Come and enjoy it - just like you are camping but with a VERY nice “tent”!
This is the most secluded part of the farm. We will check on you daily if you wish to see if there are questions or any thing that is needed. We can also give you your space. Just let us know.
  • Dan’s log cabin was the perfect environment for getting away from the rest of the world to relax and unwind. One can expect no cell service and no electricity, however neither was needed to have a great time. Dan’s log cabin offered plenty of firewood, numerous tea lights, a very clean outhouse, and the coziest bed. It’s easy to say that my boyfriend and I look forward to spending another trip down at Dan’s log cabin.

    Amanda2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • All the amenities that you would never expect in a rented cabin. Don’t worry about bringing your grill or pans. Beautiful location right on the river. Would definitely recommend for your next “camping with a fancy tent” experience!

    Kelly2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great getaway! My wife, myself, and our dog truly enjoyed our stay. The cabin stayed warm and cozy as we had a fire going most of the weekend (Late February). Used the outdoor kitchen the first night we stayed. Easy check-in, we borrowed the 4 wheel drive vehicle which was essential in navigating to the cabin. We packed too much! Dan did a great job providing everything you'd need to stay for the weekend (utensils, paper plates, pots and pans, trash bags, germ-x, seasoned firewood, etc.). We would definitely go back!

    Robert2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place away from the city, very peaceful and beautiful, will be back again!

    Pooyan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Dan and Lisa, and everyone else on the property are all wonderfully kind, fast, and attentive. We absolutely LOVED our experience, and will be returning in the future! Such a lovely get-away!

    Rachel2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Gorgeous place and the perfect getaway! Host was very responsive and kind. If you need help, there is someone on the farm who will gladly help. The road was a little rougher than we anticipate but Dan gave us plenty of warning because of the rain when we arrived. The cabin provided several items we needed for cooking and at the outdoor kitchen and the wood stove was awesome! Definitely gonna come back.

    Marian2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, secluded cabin. Lantern, candles, firewood, paper towels, toilet paper provided. Amazing place to spend a quiet weekend next to the river. No heating, no running water - just as advertised!

    David2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy, beautiful cabin! We arrived after dark but it was still easy to find thanks to Dans amazing direction giving skills! Everything was better than we expected. It was a little cold this weekend but perfectly okay because there was an additional propane heater in the cabin just in case the fire died out. We will definitely be back, my fiancée and I (and our dogs) loves this so much.

  • Amazing place. Exactly as described. What Kate failed to mention is that the house has a perfect view of the sunrise. Simply splendid. My dog and I took tons of walks around the giant property and my family and I had the perfect weekend here.

    John2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • Third trip to the cabin was just as great as the first two. Love the fire pit and hot tub.

    Alia2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • The description and pictures do NOT do this place justice. If what you want is peace and quiet in a beautiful, remote location, you cannot go wrong. I cannot be happier with my stay here, it is off the beaten path, meticulously maintained and I cant go on enough about how nice it was to unplug here. From watching the sun rise in bed (yes, from bed the sun kisses you every morning) to sitting outside and looking at the stars, to the beautiful surroundings, this is a piece of perfection. Nothing lacking, and nothing overdone. Will be back to do it again soon! THANKS!

    Sean2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome spot! We were looking for a secluded spot to stay to break up a road trip and this exceeded all expectations. Fire pit and hot tub were great and there’s plenty of places to grab firewood on the way in. Living in a city, we don’t get to see stars like they glow from this home. 10/10 recommend.

  • This is my second time to stay at Bill & Cindy's alpaca farm retreat, and I enjoyed it so much both times! They think of all the great little touches in the home: coffee, tea, wine, dishes & other kitchen essentials so I could cook meals if I wanted to; homemade muffins and OJ were great for breakfast! The bed and other furniture are all comfortable, the bathroom is very nice, and there is a lot of space to spread out above their 3-car garage. I felt comfortably at home, but at the same time, refreshingly on vacation. Thank you, Bill & Cindy!

    Lisa2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Bill and Cindy are great hosts! The 13 alpacas on the farm were amazing! The alpacas all are unique and have great personalities. I was so impressed with the apartment and the ability to be part of feeding the animals. Not only did we have fun but learned a lot! I would definitely stay here again!

    Patricia2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • If you are reading this review you have found the place you are looking for! We only spent one relaxing night on the farm, but wish we could have stayed an entire week. The apartment was very comfortable, more spacious than it looks and thoughtfully appointed! Bill and Cindy are excellent hosts but their hospitality is only slightly overshadowed by the alpaca herd and their guardians, Jake and Jili. Be sure to spend some time getting to know all of the alpaca, and then end up being followed by Coco and Bunny as they attach themselves to you in hopes of you having food. Even if you can't spend time with the alpaca, you can watch them from the balcony that overlooks the pool while you enjoy the peacefulness of the countryside. We can't wait to come back!

    Michael2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay, extra clean amenities, loved meeting the animals. Bill & Cindy are special hosts.

    Jan2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Bill and Cindy's Bright Eyes Alpaca Retreat is always one of my favorite places to stay. I have been here three times now and have never been disappointed. Whenever I need to stay in the area, I always check here first. Bill and Cindy go out of their way to make you feel at home. My cousin visited for the first time this weekend and the first thing he said was "Man, this is so nice! I feel like part of the family!" Will definitely be staying here again.

    Brandon2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • This is our second stay at Bright Eyes Alpaca Farm. Cindy and Bill and exceptional hosts and the enchanting alpacas and their protectors -Jake and Jilly are entertaining and calming. Cindy has every imaginable amenity taken care of and the apartment is inviting and spacious. I can't say enough good things about the accommodations.

    Sandra2019-11-19T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet Heart of VA is an excellent place to stay. The space was incredibly neat and clean, spacious, and surrounded by pretty country views. Bill and Cindy were very accommodating and always made sure we had what we needed without being intrusive. They went above and beyond by baking fresh banana bread and pecan pie muffins, which were amazing. Will definitely stay here again.

    Brandon2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • We first visited the BrightEyes Retreat in late April of this year when our home went on the market and our realtor told us to get out of town. We found the retreat to be clean and comfortable with all the little touches that bring a place from ordinary to extraordinary. We found Bill and Cindy to be charming hosts and their adventurous spirit in moving to the country to raise Alpaca’s was inspiring. We had the great fortune to have the opportunity to spend two more nights at the retreat in early November. Again the retreat was wonderful. A comfortable and spacious bedroom with a seating area in front of an artificial fire that gives off heat, a fully equipped kitchen with a table and seating for four and a sofa in front of a TV with numerous viewing choices. We go to Farmville to shop at Greenfront the spectacular furniture store. (Be sure to dine at the Fishin’ Pig and at the North Street Press Club if time allows. Both have many tasty offerings.) If one does not think shopping all day is fun, there are biking and hiking trails nearby for those so inclined. When we stayed in late April the pool was just be readied for the season and it had just been closed when we visited in early November. There is much to do at the retreat without even leaving the property. Regardless of your plans find you spending your time inside or outside the BrightEyes Retreat should be your home away from home base when visiting Farmville.

  • We absolutely loved staying at Joan’s. The neighborhood was quiet, clean, and beautiful. We easily entered in the apartment via keypad and were blown away. The cleanliness, style, and location was exactly what we were looking for. The fresh baked cookies that were by the entryway were devoured quickly by all of us. Although we aren’t a dairy free family, we were happy to see they had coconut milk creamer for the coffee. The organic bath products smelt amazing and I was happy to see makeup remover wipes, which I ironically forgot to pack mine. My son loved being greeted by Izzy the dog (who loved playing fetch), playing with the toys, and the tree swing outside. My husband and I gave my mother the master bed, our son slept on the bonus twin bed, and we slept on the pull out couch. My son slept like a log, my mother said the linens and her bed were very comfortable, but we didn’t care for the pull out couch mattress. Besides my husband and I not getting the best nights sleep, we look forward to staying there again.

There was a full kitchen, bathroom, 2 bedrooms, &sleeper sofa. The host provided toys for our two small children that we had with us, not to mention a great outdoor space for the whole family. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed our time here. This would be a great place to stay if you are in the area.

Ola’s Room is in honor of my Texan Grandmother. She loved colors of the western sunset, and they are included in the decor. Bright raspberry, with other pinks and blue make a happy space with natural light from seven windows. There is a private four piece bath, Dish TV/DVR, comfortable chair for reading, and hardwood floors. Environmentally friendly plants in the 27x18 space add to better air quality and sense of peace. Watch the deer, birds, and other Virginia wildlife from you window. Relax!

  • Anna Carol is an exceptional host and her home is very beautiful. She was very responsive ahead of arrival. Her home is in a stunning country setting. The house is very clean, and also fascinating in all its details. Our room was huge and full of everything we needed. She opened the rest of her home to us with grace. The entire situation was just what needed and hoped for.

  • With thoughtful touches and easy conversation, Anna is a gracious hostess. I found her home and guest space lovely. The home is within an easy drive to Hampden Sydney College offering a peaceful oasis for Family Weekend.

  • We traveled to Farmville for a wedding and weren't able to find a place at a hotel because of local college events. Fortunately we found Anna Carol's place, and we're so glad we did. Her home is beautiful and unique, and the setting is lovely. Our room was large and spacious with a private bathroom. Anna Carol is a wonderful hostess and provided snacks and a delicious breakfast. We enjoyed talking with her and learning about her family and the local area. She helped make our weekend memorable. We highly recommend her home!!

  • My husband and I were glad we made the choice to stay in Anna Carol’s home, what a lovely home, with lots of light and very spacious with fantastic views. Anna Carol has wonderful, southern hospitality. She even made us some banana bread. Her home is only about 10 min to Farmville, a great place for furniture. If you have never been to FarmVille you have to check out Greenfront Furniture, there are warehouses of furniture, rugs and accessories with multiple floors. Great place.

  • Anna was an amazing host and eased our minds for our first air bnb experience. Glad we found this spot and made a new friend! Morning time on the porch is my new favorite place in Farmville.

The Prospect Cottage is a home away from Home! With its warm country charm, it’s the perfect place to relax and get away!
The Prospect Cottage is only a 10 minute drive from Farmville, a 15 minute drive to the historical Appomattox, and a 40 minute drive to Lynchburg,Virginia! The high bridge trail runs behind our house, a short 1/4 mile walk or you can drive your car and park at a designated location.
Prospect is a very small “town”.. I’m not even sure why they call it that since it only has a gas station and a post office! 460 is directly beside the house so access to town is very easy! It’s a great combination of rural but not so far away from a town that you feel like you’re in the sticks:) The Prospect Cottage is located in a very friendly neighborhood!
  • The cottage is well stocked, comfortable and clean. Melissa anticipates every need and it shows. Enjoyed the coffee station and the comfortable, big living room for relaxing after a long day.

    Monica2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Prospect Cottage is the perfect rural AirBnB in Virginia! Farm style feel with so many thoughtful details. The hostess, Melissa is beyond thoughtful and attentive. My family loved it!

  • Nice place to stay. Easy access. Just as expected. Great access to the High Bridge Trail

    Chad2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The atmosphere in The Prospect Cottage is pure peace. It is a place where you can truly unwind and revive your soul even if just for a weekend. We stayed there a few days over Christmas. Melissa had decorated the house for Christmas, which was unexpected. It was such a special touch. If you are a writer, this is the place for you!

    Diane2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy, comfortable, clean, and well-appointed. Had everything we needed for a great stay. Short drive to Farmville, High Bridge Trail a short walk away from house. Hostess was accommodating and helpful. Very happy with our experience!

    Stacy2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa's place is wonderful it is super clean cozy and has everything you could need or would forget. It is located very close to Farmville and Longwood which was very convenient. Her cottage exceeded my expectations with the decor, cleanliness and overall her amazing hospitality I definitely would stay again.

    Anna2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at the Prospect Cottage. The house was very clean and comfortable, and we appreciated how well stocked it was. The breakfast items and snacks were a nice surprise too. The house also had very good WiFi. The house is located outside of Farmville; however, the drive to Farmville is only about 10-15 minutes. We traveled to Prospect to cycle on the High Bridge Trail. You can easily walk to the trail from the house, so it was very convenient for us, and we could just ride from the house; the ride to the bridge is about 15 miles in one direction. The house is on a somewhat busy road; this was not really an issue for us, but is something to be aware of. Also, the house does not have cable or satellite service—only local channels. Again, this was not really an issue, and there was a DVD player for movies.

  • Great place to get away from the world! I loved the scenery, the peace, and the quiet. If you have Verizon wireless, your connection can be a bit iffy. At&t users shouldn't worry however. Robert and his wife were wonderful hosts and if you were to encounter any problems he'd be there at a moments notice. Loved the cottage and would both recommend and stay here again. If you stay here be sure to ask for some of the blueberry muffins :)

Welcome to the Miller's Wife, an early Americana experience, in the heart of Civil War history! If you desire a unique getaway where time stands still, historic, simi off-grid, and very private, this is your spot! A rural retreat, rustic, Farm House is nestled in a secluded hollow, with convenient parking, especially created for your relaxation away from the hustle and bustle. Hot coffee in the mornings!
REQUIREMENT: Read the entire listing This actually is an early Americana experience :) If you're looking to take in nature's beauty the scenery, views, and sounds of nature are one-of-a-kind here! This is a private, simi off-grid, breathtaking location where you will find yourself loving to just "be." Plan your romantic getaway or relaxing retreat! Step away from the daily grind and into a Traditional Virginian Farm House built in the mid 19th century. Come and wind down in your home away from home! Take a dip in our local Mill Pond Creek or rock hop the cascading pools. You will be mesmerized by the tumbling waters over the old mill dam. Soak in the sights of perennial gardens, hand curated stone areas, functional out house, walking trails throughout the property, and more! You may be wondering how this listing derived its name. Hacker Martin and his wife owned the property and lived in this room. While Hacker was a famous gunsmith and miller who ran Stonewall Mill the saying, "My wife is my better half" comes to mind. =) When you stay here, you get the best of both worlds, semi off grid living with classic Appomattox hospitality. Tour: We offer a short tour around the grounds upon your arrival or at your earliest convenience Indoors: Step through the doors into the foyer and head up the staircase past the library to your private room tastefully decorated in representation of a "Virginia Two-over-Two" historic design. A queen bed, comfortably sleeps two, with an enchanting space and dreamy natural light. Liz's "Bedrock" service keeps you warm during winter nights! The Bedrock is a large stone from the Mill pond heated up on her wood stove. The Bedrock is then wrapped up for you and delivered right to the foot of your bed! You'll be surprised how this minimalist way to stay warm at night works! Featuring a mission oak antique chair and dresser with mirror, closet for hanging clothes, dome-top blanket chest, full length Victorian mirror, and plenty of space for your luggage. We also have a have a Pack-N-Play and a high chair if needed. Relax with a good read of over 500 selections to choose from in the library. Bathroom: featuring an Early American washroom (no running water) that is off the foyer on the first floor, an environmentally efficient bathroom and composting toilet. You'll love it! Check out the photos. Lounge in the parlor with your freshly poured coffee or tea from the antique wash stand. Enjoy your meals in the pre Civil War dinning room surrounded by Americana furniture and art! Outdoors: Stupe: You'll love this little spot. Another room on the outside of the farmhouse with a fresh, bright vibe has a Micro, refrigerator/freezer, French press. Down at the Mill House (200 yards away): Ring the door bell and wait to enter into what used to be the Mill and has since been made into a house. Inside you'll have access to a hot shower in a private bathroom. **Note: if there are not guests staying there you can use the shower. If so only the out house is available, no hot water.** Laundry is available, $5.00 per load. Make a phone call, long distance, from the land line. Most cell phones drop calls here, but texting normally works. Connect to WiFi inside or on the front porch which overlooks the Mill Pond and a 10 foot vertical water fall along the banks of our creek. You may catch a glimpse of the river otters, beavers, turtles, Blue Heron, Osprey, and other wildlife. If you have a fishing license cast your line for blue gill, bass, and catfish. A naturalist delight! In no time this digital detox will restore you completely! Take a dip in the river...you'll be surprised at how huge pool area is - rock hop the cascading pools. Go for an ultra rejuvenating run beside the river on our road! Soak in the sights of perennial gardens, hand curated stone areas, functional out house, and short walking trails throughout the property. Bring your yoga mats and your telescope for stars, trust me! Swing on the front porch and gaze into the river water falls. A true birder's paradise! In the springtime the wildflowers are wild! April to May, fire pink, columine, wild phlox, ferns, bee balm, rhododendron, wild rose, mountain laurel, black-eyed Susan, and more butterflies than you can count. Out House: There is running water; it is not hot. There's a shower, wash area, and composting toilet. Running water is in the well water faucet (20 feet away) from the Farm House. The well water faucet is where you'll get your water for coffee, tea, and anything else. Lift the leaver and out comes the water. Kitchen: We have a summer style kitchen! There is an awesome fire pit behind the farm house for grilling/cooking and camp fires with seating available. Bring your s'mores! There is a refrigerator and freezer available in the Stupe of the Farm House.
Enjoy a walk on the road around the pasture, woods, and the Mill Pond Creek. There is a lot of space so neighbors are not in sight, just the Mill House.
  • This charming home was exactly as pictured and as described by the hosts. Off the beaten path... and truly feels as if you have traveled back to simpler and slower times. The grounds are amazing and the sound of the waterfalls can be heard from the farm house. The bed was so comfortable and the sheets were a luxurious Egyptian cotton. There is no running water in the home as the host clearly states. Our trip was in the summer and showering outside was refreshing! There was a large camping-style bag that could be filled with well water and placed in the sun to warm for evening showers. One fill provided my husband and enough water for a shower each, complete with hair washing. Quick wash-ups were inside with well water and a basin. Our favorite part of our stay was sitting on the rocks below the dam on a hot sunny day in the cool water, and sitting on the porch swing. Once you are acclimated to the location, it’s not hard to find at night. But plan to initially arrive well before dark. The hosts were gracious and accommodating and helpful with local information. We hope to visit again❤️

  • Perfect spot for a mini vacation in Virginia. We came from DC with a group of four and had a great weekend. The house is charming and located next to a river and waterfall which made for a tranquil setting. Our hosts Melody and Marina were very responsive to my questions and made sure we had everything we needed, including tips for a nearby hike. Highly recommend!

    Edward2019-06-09T00:00:00Z
  • This is such an amazing place. My boyfriend and I was in need of an Sabbatical and we got that and more. The first thing we noticed was the sounds of the waterfall it was amazing especially when you are sitting on the porch swing or in the house sitting in the livingroom with the windows up. The Miller house is full of character a lot of thought was put into every room from the piano to the library upstairs. There is an amazing selection of books. We took advantage of the compost toilet and experienced what it would have been like back in the day when there was no running water and toilet in the house. Jim and Liz are the best Host and Hostess they made sure we didnt want for anything and was always there if we needed anything. It is so important to get there before dark or you could run into some problems such as losing service and access to GPS. Melody was patient with us and thanks to her help we were able to find the place with no problem. This has been a wonderful experience for us and we look forward to returning back for another fix of peace and rest. Thank you for making this trip stressfree for us we appreciate the time and effort to keep us relaxed.

  • This house is a classic beautifully kept early American small farmhouse. You feel as if you are staying in a museum home. You can hear the falls from the bedroom on the second floor. There are big lawns and bright sunshine. Its hard to find but worth it. You might not want to travel the winding roads at night but morning is gorgeous. I did not realize from the description that there is not running water in the house. But the composting toilet and basin are very adequate for nighttime use and face washing. There is also a nice modern outhouse nearby with a cold water shower.

    Victoria2019-04-21T00:00:00Z
  • I planned to stay at Melody’s for a solitude retreat and it was the perfect place. Loved the grounds and semi-off-grid set up. Melody is an excellent communicator - such a fast response time and the directions were very clear. Would definitely stay again!

  • My boyfriend and I absolutely loved the place! We had a quiet, romantic weekend at the Miller’s Wife. The waterfall was gorgeous and we had a good time walking the trails on the property. My favorite part was the animals; the dogs were very friendly after they got used to you and I fell in love with the grey cat. Overall, we had an amazing time and hope to come back in the future! Thank you, Melody!

  • The house is tucked back off the main road overlooking beautiful fields. The front porch swing was a great place to chat in the evenings or sip morning coffee. There is a family of deer that live there that came so close to the house in the morning that we though they may come onto the porch! The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. Anna Carol was a very kind and hospitable host!

  • I am a travel nurse and had one of the best Airbnb experiences with Anna Carol. She is a wonderful hostess who genuinely cares for you to enjoy your stay and accommodates in every way, from fresh flowers in your room to making space in her refrigerator for you. She’s very respectful of your space but is a delight to include! I stayed for approximately 3 months and was always impressed with how generous and welcoming she was. She lives on a beautiful storybook farm with a long front porch perfect for enjoying the breeze and views. The bedroom is quiet, very comfortable and is fitted with a setee, TV, one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept on, and a large closet. The bathroom connects and is spacious and clean with extra toiletries. There is a private sitting area off of the bedroom that was perfect for me during my extended stay. If you stay here you are assured a comfortable bed, peace and quiet, all your needs met, convenient location, and the famous Southern hospitality of Anna Carol.

She exceeded our expectations with her hospitality and generosity! The space was amazing and we had everything we needed and more! The home is beautiful and Anna Carol went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed! It was very private and we had our own bathroom and sitting area with our own thermostat! I wish every place I visited would have a host like her! I promise you won’t go wrong with this place and you will make a wonderful new friend!! Can’t wait to come back and stay here!!

This is a quite space nestled in the Concord countryside which is part of the majestic Blue Ridge range. This 90-acre plot of land offers running trails and a pond for fishing. Lynchburg is 17 minutes away which is home of Liberty University, Randolph College, Central Virginia Community College, and Lynchburg University. Lynchburg also has a plethora of antique stores and nature trails.
We are a family that runs a non-profit for veterans, first responders and their families. This space is being offered when we do not have veterans as a way to raise funds to help with the non-profit overhead cost. Our home consist of four modular units joined together. Your space would be one private bedroom in a separate unit. We live in a unit next to yours. The kitchen and dining area are in the units across the porch from yours.
We host a 5k obstacle run and many of the obstacles are left up year round and you could enjoy a nice challenge if you desire. The landscape is beautiful in the spring, summer and fall (it is a bit muddy in the winter).

Our community has a great dinner delivery service on Thursday and/or Friday evenings. The service is run by a former restaurateur who who sends out a weekly menu of awesome fully prepared meals. Her style ranges from Mediterranean to North African to Aisian Fusion with Southern US Gourmet thrown in for good measure. Her menu changes every week and is sent to us by email on Monday for that week. In order to get in on the deal, you must order by Tuesday at 4:00. There are usually 5-6 meal options. If you're interested in ordering for delivery on Thursday or Friday for that week, let me know and I will forward you the menu for that week as soon as it comes out. Her meals keep well in the fridge for Saturday or Sunday as well.
The apartment is across the road from a horse farm with good views.

  • Becky is a wonderful hostess! Homemade banana bread, snacks, water bottles, a beautiful basement apartment, and on a clear night an amazing view of the stars-all made for a wonderful trip!

  • Becky's place is very clean and roomy for the price. She left some nice little snacks for us as well. Excelent host!

  • Becky's place is AWESOME! First off it's a large, private space packed full of amenities. There's a living room with a great couch and Direct TV. The bathroom is HUGE and has plenty of clean towels. (Side note: the toilet paper is GOOD quality - like..better than what I even buy for myself at home). The bedroom is large with super comfortable sheets and a nice, cooling, ceiling fan. The kitchen has everything you want and need to make yourself any meal you'd like. What really makes the place special are the personal touches Becky provides. There are plenty of little snacks and books left for you along with a bunch of brochures with fun stuff to do in the area.

  • Becky's apartment is a wonderful retreat. It is spotless, spacious, and very well-equipped. We loved the homemade banana bread, and the garden-grown watermelon. The home is out in the country, and several deer passed through the meadow as we were relaxing on the back patio. We enjoyed our stay as a base to bike the High Bridge Trail, but it is also a good spot if you are touring near Appomattox or Lynchburg.

A very fun and spacious room with a Queen bed and Queen Sofa Bed. Bathroom has a jacuzzi tub with hand held shower handle. Limited open closet, drawer space available. Floor fan, TV, Bathrobes and Linen provided.
Appomattox is a small but huge historic township. Where Lee surrendered to Grant and ended the Civil War, Appomattox offers a walk through history of the Confederate armies path to surrender. Multiple museums and the surrender grounds are open year round. Our little downtown has quaint shops for gifts and antiques. You can easily drive a short distance to many other historic sites near Appomattox.
  • Had a great time in Appomattox and that is definitely in part due to our stay at Longacre. We enjoyed the grounds, the public rooms of the property, and enjoyed breakfast with other BnB goers. Excellent hospitality - would come back!

  • I stayed in the Maple Room. It was clean, spacious, comfortable, and had great tips to local dining. I will stay again if I'm in the area!

Comfort and rustic casual elegance would describe the décor of this circa 1915 cottage with crocheted quilts, and comfortable chairs & sofa to sit back and relax. The home has a mix of vintage and country casualness.
The bedroom features 2 queen size beds, a cedar cabinet, a vintage waterfall chest of drawers, and is carpeted. Sheets and blankets are provided. The living area is an open, great room with a queen sleeper sofa, a Lazy Boy recliner and other chairs. There is a propane gas heater for added coziness on chilly nights. Cable TV, DVD, and WIFI are provided. The kitchen has a small table for 2 and is equipped with utensils, towels, cookware, and appliances. The kitchen adjoins to the dining room which has a table that seats 6. There is a full bathroom with a tub/shower.
The cottage and farm are located in a rural area. You will hear chickens clucking, cows mooing, and donkeys braying, but not too closely.
  • A great value for the money. Limited television but good Wi-Fi for streaming. There are train tracks across from house with numerous train passings. It didn't bother me but not as quiet as you would think.

    Lorraine2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a quaint little house..it was comfortable and easy to find..it was a great value and was private and peaceful and super clean..I rented it for when my family came into town and I would definitely rent again.

    Peggy2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Good spot to stay. Convenient to many state parks.

    Daena2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very spacious and comfortable! Fully stocked kitchen. Train ran about four times a day very close to house but we found it charming and non invasive in the least.

    Rachel2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie and Ken were great host. The house was clean. The beds were comfy.

    Julie2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Pictures do not do the cottage justice! Our 12 year old twins and nearly-two year old son all loved the space as much as my husband and I did. There’s more space than expected, we were 5 minutes out from downtown, the area itself is blue skies and lovely fields - our little one lived for the times the train passed and, despite its closeness, all of the trains that came through while we were visiting were much quieter than the commuter trains that roll through our home town. The bathroom and kitchen was stocked with all kinds of little extras I didn’t think about needing and I enjoyed making breakfast over the weekend with sun streaming through one window and the stained glass sprinkling colors throughout from the kitchen’s opposite side. If we ever have reason to be in the area again we’ll undoubtedly return!

    Cassie2019-04-28T00:00:00Z
  • Bonnie and Ken's cottage is the perfect place to stay when visiting central Virginia. The actual cottage is so much bigger than it appears in the pictures. Every room is large and comfortable and the place has a real "at home" feel - simple, clean and very relaxing. We would recommend it to everyone.

  • Fantastic house close to Appomattox. Great layout, fully equipped kitchen, and thoughtful touches throughout the house. We were there over Thanksgiving and the kitchen gave us the opportunity to cook my dads favorite mincemeat pie! We will definitely be back
