Thakur Nahar Singh laid the foundation of Castle at Mehansar in 1768. Family has lived in the castle for centuries and now have opened its gates to the honored guests.
Completely furnished with one double bed, closet and balcony. Enjoy meals at our place as we r famous for our food . Beautiful private balcony, and bathroom with shower. For extra guests we put additional mattresses on the on the floor either in the bedroom or in the living room.
It is a best place for whole who want to live in country side and to experience the village life. It is 100 mtrs from famous sone chandi ki haweli which is know for its golden & silver paintings
  • To begin with Thakurji and his entire group of people are an amazing host. I was a bit skeptical about the whole thing before reaching there and had a lot of doubts about my decision of staying at Narayan Niwas Castle . Once we reached there the amazing warmth and customised tips made us feel at home . Although we booked a smaller room , Thakurji provided us with a bigger room as we were staying with kids . He also made sure we had access to running hot water all the time in the bath . As we are vegetarians and with kids and a senior citizen , our meals were customised to our needs (less spicy for kids and soft and mushy for the elder one and most importantly , everything was vegetarian and home made). The tomato curry preparation was too good . My husband wanted the recipe of it 😀. All our needs were attended first hand and the kids loved staying in the rustic 250+ year old castle. Everything seems good when the service it good and in this case the service was great which made up for if anything at all was missing. The bonfire needs a special mention as it was much required at the end of chilly winter day. Thanks again Thakurji for been such a great host and we got to learn a lot about the place and it’s history from you . Also thanks a lot to your helpers who were always there for us . I would highly recommend to stay at the castle if you want to experience staying in a 250 plus year old place with everything in place with a great family .

  • Normally, I would want to selfishly keep a special place such as Thakur's castle in Mahansar a secret so it would be all mine. However, Thakur and his family are such truly special people, we are compelled to share it so that others can enjoy it as much as we did. Thakur's hosting style is in the classic Indian way- very warm hospitality, peaceful and welcoming, and make you feel part of the family. From fireside chats, we received explanations of the region's colorful history, and each meal was home-cooked and great. I think this is what locations like Mahansar Castle are all about, and what makes it unique to a hotel. This place is not about living in a 5 star hotel room, it's about living in a royal yet humble style and embracing what goes along with that. Thakur's communication is great, and he even helped us organize a driver to pick us up in Jaipur, and a local guide to show us around Shekhawati. We found the most impressive places actually within Mahansar itself, just 5-10 minutes walking from the castle. It's a peaceful small town where the locals know foreigners are visiting time to time and curious in a friendly way, but don't try to hustle you. The locals respect the Maheshwar family, as they have a long history of giving back to the community. As tourists and travelers have declined all over India in the past year, lesser visited regions like Shekhawati suffer the most. We are looking forward to sitting with Thakur around the bonfire once again in the future and recommend it to all.

  • I traveled to Mahansar with my husband and two young children and we all had a leisurely four day stay. Thakurji was very thoughtful about the kids, making sure they stayed warm and had what they needed. The castle is intriguing and beautiful. The wall frescoes are stunning - fading in parts but one can imagine their beauty. Unlike other towns in the region, this offers the experiment of the countryside in every sense of the word. The best part of the stay was the absolutely fantastic food and spending time with the family. The staff is helpful. Sita ran many errands cheerfully as did the others.

  • Our stay at Thakur Maheshwar’s place was really most comfortable and enjoyable. He is an awesome host who goes out of his way to guide you from arrival until he sees you off. It was spotlessly clean and the setting gives a nice historical touch to the whole place. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in the interiors of Shekhwati region of Rajasthan.

  • Ilay Cooper who wrote the reference guide 'The painted towns of Shekawati' mentions in his book 'The fort 'Narayan Niwas Castle' is my favourite in this genre' and 'The view from the highest tower, over the town and the desert beyond, is remarkable'. Add to that welcoming hosts, delicious meals, tips and help, guides for tours on demand, a family atmosphere,... This place takes you back in time but with excellent wifi-connection. Recommended for everyone who wants to experience a glimpse of how life must have been decades ago in this region and at the same time see how the hosts try to preserve this place for the future. Recommended.

  • Our best Rajasthan experience till date. After having visited the traditional places like Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Udaipur/Kumbalgarh/Ranakpur etc. in the past, we finally visited the Shekhawati region. Based on a review of options on Air bnb and other travel reviews, we had settled on Narayan Niwas, due to three reasons 1) place seemed different from other being more fort like 2) the good reviews about the food and 3) general cleanliness. And boy, did the place deliver beyond our expectations. Narayan Niwas, is the largest part of Fort Mahansar, with other parts owned by other family members - all independant with their respective entrances. This part is an absolute gem. The original structure is still in place and the authenticity adds to the experience. The place feels much better live than the pictures. We were in room 5 which is slightly higher up, and with hindsight exactly what we wanted. An additonal flight of stairs led us to the top of the fort, from where we experienced both glorious sunrises and sunsets with some nice ginger tea. One unique thing we also enjoyed was viewing the Train passing by in the evening in the dark. Things to remember: one does have to climb some stairs to access the rooms. Retaining its originality does mean that certain things e.g. bathrooms will be simple (but clean). Also, the family stays here, so good to keep an open mind and not compare to hotels. The food was easily the best in Shekhawati and it was a challenge not to overeat. Mrs. Singh supervises the kitchen herself normally while during our stay, one of her daughters from Jodhpur there for holidays was helping out. We could interact with other guests over a bonfire in the evenings. A special local liquor was also brought out when we were there and it was simply awesome. We stayed for 3 nights and travelled to various places like Mandawa, Ramgarh, laxmangarh, Dundlot, Ramgarh etc. Thakur Maheshwar Singh arranged a good guide, Rajesh, to take us to these places and we enjoyed the trips. Last but not the least, what made our trip truly special was the interaction with the family and the warmth. we were additionally fortunate that their daughter, son in law and grandson were also at Mahansar at the same time. Our son had a gala time playing with the grandson, including kite flying. Our son has already decided on visiting them at Jodhpur. (It turned out coincidentally that six years back we had stayed at a property related to the son in law at Jodhpur). If it was an option, would have given a rating higher than 5 stars.

  • The stay here was the highlight of our trip. The room is beautiful and has a lot to explore on the walls. The hospitality extended made us feel like we are part of Thakurji's family. He was gracious enough to let us stay a bit longer since we got held up and ended up losing a day. Definitely have all your meals at the home stay, it's pure delicious home cooked food and masala chai. It is a bit pricey for a small town but completely worth it if you are looking for a tasty traditional meal. This is a very small town with an amazing vibe that is hard to get in the cities. It was a welcomed change for us. Visit the gold room and temple while you are there. I would definitely recommend staying here if you plan to visit shekhawati region. It is less touristy compared to Mandawa.

Thakur Nahar Singh laid the foundation of Narayan Niwas Castle at Mehansar in 1768. Family has lived in the castle for centuries and now have opened its gates to the honored guests. Hotel Narayan Niwas Castle also popularly known as Mehansar castle is situated amongst the midst of semi desert and rural surroundings. Hotel Narayan Niwas Castle is free from all sorts of pollutions commercial or natural. And it is the most authentic castle of the area where no new building has being made during the renovation. Castle is becoming popular among the writers, fashion photographers and art lovers. Mehansar itself has several frescoed temples, havelis, cenotaphs and wells.

  • We loved our 3 nights' stay at this huge castle which is full of history and stories. Thakur Maheshwar is a very pleasant host and gave us good advice about how to plan our stay. Do not expect super luxury at Narayan Niwas Castle, but all the necessities of a comfortable stay are in place. Room #1 (rather a suite) is truly royal, Rooms 5&6 have a great view (but may not be child friendly). Room #3 is an ideal mix. There are many more rooms in the castle which we did not see.

  • This place is magnificent.. Awesome experience of the royal way of life.. One of the most beautiful havelis I have ever seen and so beautifully envisaged. Great hospitality. Akshath catered to every need. Extremely need and clean.. Oh and the bedding - so luxurious and cosy. The collection of comics, novels and dvds were thoughtfully provided for the quiet nights in the common sitting room. We had a lovely bornfire organised for us and the food on request was yummy. Had a great time. Thanks Akshath. Will definitely visit again. :)
