Places to stay in Maidenwell
$89.00 per couple - $25.00 extra person per night. Our property is close to the Bunya Mountains National Park and 8klms to Maidenwell's Hotel and General Store. Coomba Falls is spectacular. We offer views, ambience, outdoor space, location and fully operational Australian Stock horse stud, "Kooloombah Grazing Co", droughtmaster cattle, sheep and cropping. We cater for couples, solo adventurers and families. We also breed Border Collie working dogs for our contract mustering and droving cattle.
The Bunkhouse accommodates workers when we harvest hay and grain etc.. We also conduct Horsemanship and Cattle Management Schools during the year so our clients stay in The Bunkhouse too. It is rustic but it is "The Bunkhouse" and our guests like the birds, peace and quiet, as well as wander around the property to the creek or go for a 25 minute drive up to the Bunyas. We hope you enjoy your stay.
Local hotel has pig on the spit and live entertainment on the last Saturday of the month. Nanango markets are huge and held the 1st Saturday of every month. Coffee and restaurant at the Bunyas every day.

  • We found this was a great place to chill out and enjoy being in the country. It was also a great base to explore the Bunya mountains. Lyn was an excellent host who made sure we had everything that we needed. She always responded very quickly to our messages and was very welcoming. Lyn also had the fire place up and running (with plenty of fire wood outside) on arrival making for a cosy warm stay. Thanks heaps Claire and Pete.

The Bunya Mountains is a jurassic range with a unique flora seen no where else in the world. Just below the summit of Mt Mowbullum is the Headquarters of the National Park and the ranger's station, bistros, coffee shops. This settlement is known as Dandebah. The rangers station has information on all the walks, their duration, the flora and fauna ... They are very friendly people. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • My three kids and I were warmly welcomed and Greg was very accommodating by moving some items to keep everyone safe. The views were beautiful and the wildlife kept us all entertained. The kitchen was stocked with all of the bits and pieces we needed to prepare our own meals. The bed was so comfortable.

    Jasmin2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Just beautiful. Such a peaceful getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. The ‘shack’ as it’s called is amazing. Brilliantly laid out and so comfortable to live in. This space has it all. Loved the long leather couches. We read for hours as the rain tumbled down. Perfect spot to stay if you want to hike the Bunya’s as well. Can’t wait to come back in winter and use the fire place. Greg was the perfect host as well. The fact you can’t hear any cars from the shack was awesome.

    Steve2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely, quiet, clean, very scenic worth visiting

    Johan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful retreat with views for days, spectacular night sky and stylish living spaces. Greg is a friendly and helpful host who is around if needed but giving 100% privacy otherwise. Loved staying here!

    Lizzie2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very well appointed place and ideal for visiting Bunya Mountains National Park. Greg lives next door and is a charming (and discreet) host.

    Patrick2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • My parents had a wonderful, relaxing stay and would highly recommend if looking for a peaceful, relaxing space to simply unwind.

    Eliza2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Greg’s lovely cabin is exactly as described. Secluded, cozy and surrounded by beautiful mountains and nature. There’s movies, games, great bathroom, a fireplace and a lovely view all around. We went during heavy rains and he even offered to help us get back to the cabin after we got stuck down in Maidenwell due to a flooded road. The National park is only 20 min away and the drive to the cabin is beautiful too 🙂 We will be back!

    Nidhi2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Greg’s cabin was the perfect answer to our need for a relaxing night away from the city. Quiet, comfortable and surrounded by beautiful nature. We loved sitting out on the deck until sunset taking in the environment around us. His hospitality was great, and it was nice to know he was so close if we needed anything. We were also very happy we could bring our big, rambunctious German Shepherd as we have previously struggled to find places that will accommodate anything other than small dogs. Odin felt at home very quickly. Will definitely consider coming back in the winter :)

Welcome to our Bunya Mountains home called “Leaping Hare”. The home is in the heart of the Bunya mountains village and walking tracks. The main, second and third bedrooms have queen-size beds. The fourth bedroom has a single bed. Each bed has an electric blanket fitted. The kitchen and lounge room are open plan. There is a large fireplace in the lounge room. The alfresco deck overlooks the mountains. There is also an ensuite, main bathroom, powder room, and children's activity room.
The TV room has a large television connected with Foxtel movies and free to air channels. There is also a range of DVDs. In the children’s activity room, there is a TV, range of board games, games and books to play with.
Our home is in the Bunya Mountains National Park, which is Queensland's second oldest National Park. It boasts the largest forest of ancient Bunya Pines in the world. These giant trees tower to 60 metres and dominate the national park. These trees can be seen from our deck and from most rooms of our house. It is a 5 minute walk to the Bunya Mountains Village. The village has 2 cafes, 1 restaurant, 1 convenience/grocery store, a Ranger's hut, and camping grounds. There is also a whiskey bar in the restaurant. There are also horse drawn tours run from the village (by request). The village markets are held on each last Sunday of the month. These markets have a range of local produce and crafts on offer.
  • From the spacious deck where we watched the sunset to the claw bath where I albeit fell asleep, it was so relaxing, this home has it all. And the setting in the private estate, set among the towering Bunya trees and a short walk to the forest walks and local coffee shop was ideal. We didn't bother watching TV, we sat by the fire, played games while we sipped wine and checked out the stars. Our grandson loved the wallabies.

  • Great place in a great location. I would definitely recommend Marion's place. It had everything we needed and much more.

  • Beautiful house in serene location Just perfect

    Chris2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • I was amazed to find an air bnb this good - in the bunya mountains of all places!! The house is well designed and each room is brilliantly styled and the house is about a 10 min walk to the cafes. There is a massive selection of dvds and games for the kids. The parents retreat is at the opposite end of the House to the kids end. The outdoor area is huge and you can watch the wallabies eat and the local parrots come and and say hello. Some may even climb on you. The fireplace at night is great to sit around and is not distracted by the tv. Appliances are high standard. Tip: Cooktop you lean the dial to get the burner to work. Great property thank you Marion and Glen.

    Richard2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • A breathtaking location only surpassed by the spectacular property. The house is a beautifully appointed premises that was a never ending treat from arrival to departure. Highly recommend and will definitely be back to enjoy with family.

    Mark2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Marion's was a perfect 5 day getaway with our adult children and a couple of their partners. There was enough separation for everyone but also places to gather. It was a bonus to be able to use the fireplace during summer!

    Stef2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Nice place to stay. The dog in the house is so smart, he followed and called me when I was going to the wrong house. haha. While traveling, I wanted to find a place that is able to do the laundry at any time and organize my stuff in a spacious place. But it was really hard to find until this place. I did the laundry, cooking, organizing my stuff, and watching a movie with a glass of red wine that night. I didn't want to leave ;)

    Bomi2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Luke and Vickies. The accommodation was clean and tidy. Luke greeted us upon arrival and had loads of local knowledge. The price per night is unbeatable. We will stay here again

  • A very comfortable stay in the midst of Booie’s open space land. Unlike conventional hotels/motels, the accomodation offered so much freedom to work and/or to sit back and relax and enjoy away from the town busy-ness. Luke was a great host with a friendly tone and manner. Will stay there again, only longer.

    Olivia2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is a piece of local history beautifully restored and decorated, with everything you could ever want. The basket for breakfast was amazing, but it is the genuine hospitality that Leny and Jon provide that is priceless. A great base to explore the area as well

    peter2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in Art's Hut sums up why Airbnb is so succesful. You are not just renting accommodation, you're getting a unique experience. The cottage is a stylishly renovated 1930's settler home. It sits on Jon & Leny's 5th generation working cattle farm. It is very comfortable for singles or couples. I stayed 5 nights and wanted to live there. Its such a peaceful happy place. Jon & Leny are fantastic hosts. Many extras like fresh yoghurt, jams and honey. The local town folk are very friendly, with great meals available in the evening, a general store, tavern and cafe. I've stayed in many Airbnb' s. This is one of my genuine favorites.

Welcome to our Loft. Nestled into the side of one of the highest points on the Bunya Mountains, Queensland, and centrally located in peaceful surrounds makes it the perfect place for a relaxing break. The Bunyas is always about 6 degrees cooler than the surrounding area. Nature abounds with friendly wallabies, possums, bandicoots, echidnas, and the colourful king parrots and crimson rosellas are amongst the abundant birdlife.
The Bunya Loft is a spacious self contained studio unit which is attached to the side of our house over the garage where you will have undercover parking. It has a separate entrance for your privacy. The Bunya Loft has its own private fenced courtyard with a BBQ area. The adjacent block is where our Clydesdales are kept when we have tours booked. Inside you will find a comfy queen size bed and two single beds, TV area, kitchenette and private bathroom. The raked timber ceilings give the self contained unit a country feel. There are books to read, games to play, dvd‘s to watch and a few toys for small children. We hope you will feel very much at home when you stay. The kitchenette has all you need to provide for yourself or we are only a short drive (2 km) to the local restaurants and whiskey bar. The bathroom has a shower, toilet, hand basin and wash basin and is equipped with basic toiletries and a hair dryer. For those colder months, we have a fireplace down stairs at the back of the garage which heats the loft very nicely. Firewood is provided.

  • We had a wonderful time. The location is good, the views lovely and the loft special. Everything was there you needed. The bed was comfortable and there was lots of space. Nice hikes in the rainforest with lovely animals especially the great amount of Wallabies, so cute. If you want to cook bring your food before coming up to the mountain as the shop of there not much choice and very expensive.

    Cindy2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the place! Jimmar was beautiful in a beautiful, relaxing, rejuvenative environment. Lots of little special touches - the house and the outdoor balconies and terraces were lovely. Loved the setting and sitting watching the forest, the birds, and the bunyas swaying in the breeze.

    Ray2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • A really lovely property, exactly as advertised. The house is stylish, well kitted out, with wide windows and soaring ceilings, yet well insulated and warm through the night. The place, as advertised, is solar powered and on a water tank. Marg and Jim were communicative throughout, and there were plenty of instructions and reminders on-site about how to be sensible and treat the facilities properly, vital when a place is off the grid and self-sustaining. A great place to enjoy a slow morning on the deck, watch the birds fly and scurry about, listen to the breeze in the trees and not hear the neighbours or traffic. And it's just five mins' drive from Dandabah which is the start point for the national park tracks and cafes, so really well located.

    Russell2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful stay at Jimmar. We loved the layout of the house, all the birdlife and location, it was perfect! We will definitely be back!

  • John and Barbara's place offers an interesting experience away from the city life. We really enjoyed our stay in the hut, and learned how to live (for a few days) without the modern conveniences that we always take for granted.

    Mai2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed staying at the cabin - it was so quaint and everything you could possibly need is provided. It was very nice to have a fire on a cool night. It's so beautiful around here after a bit of rain - there are beautiful walks around the property and to the lookout where you can see all the lush rolling hills. Our dog loved exploring and chasing birds. We even saw some friendly wallabies in the mornings.

Toilet was spotless, outdoor shower and bath tub were 👌👌very private. Beds were comfy and so was the recliner and couches! John and Barbara made sure my stay was as comfortable as it could get - very friendly and welcoming.

  • Just spent 4 nights at June and Hal's place - their 'superhost' rating is spot on. Arrived early and no probs with early checkin. Milk, bread and jam on arrival. A great place for a single traveller (like myself) or a couple. I will be back for sure. Thank you muchly Mark

    Mark2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • June and Hal are such a lovely and accomodating couple. They are down to earth and very genuine. They have a gorgeous, well maintained and peaceful property with horses, 2 pet cows and 2 beautiful dogs. The cabin is very clean and private. It had everything we needed for a relaxing stay. The country touches and how it’s been decorated added a lot of character to the place. The bed is comfy and June and Hal are only a phone call away if you need anything at all. They were not only accomodating to us but to our family as well. We were staying at there place as my brother who also lives in Nanango, was hosting a family reunion and Christmas celebrations over a few days. June and Hal said our family were more than welcome to visit us during our stay and offered up another area of their place for us to have a bbq and have the use of a larger area if we needed. We would highly recommend staying at June and Hal’s place and have nothing but praise for them both. It was an absolute pleasure to meet them.

    Richard2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • John's old renovated church is stepping back into history, but with modern and comfortable touches. The area is steeped in history, and the locals are authentic hard-working families of the land. The solitude, sunsets, quietness, stars are beautiful to behold. Kookaburras abound, waiting to catch their breakfast, wallabies graze peacefully in the church grounds, all the while while I watched, listened and reflected peacefully. Want to get away from the pressures of life for a while...John's place is a great start, then the rest is up to you. Thanks John for your respect of reinventing the past for our enjoyment.

  • Our stay at Elysium Lodge was great. Property has a very new feel and immaculately presented, and included breakfast. We were there during a heat wave and were still comfortable. As travellers who take their Jack Russell with them it is always a bonus to not only find a place that is pet friendly but also to be so good with such a friendly host, thanks Cate.

    John2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Great communication though totally private. We didn’t meet the hosts (and didn’t need to, so this was fine). Lovely quite spot in the bush. It was a heat wave so was grateful for ceiling fans. Beautiful modern cottage with excellent, clean facilities. Well appointed kitchen and bathroom, comfy beds and good linen. Easy to find and a handy stopover. I would recommend this Airbnb.

We were received warmly and treated generously on a chilly winter day. The rooms were neat and warm. The fluffy cats she keeps were so adorable. There are even chickens and ducks in the backyard! People who enjoy country life would like her place as much as we did.

  • A great house for us that was comfortable and quiet though only 10 minutes walk from restaurant, cafe and start of the Forrest walks. Well equipped for self catering though we ate out (Bunya restaurant) every night. Wonderful birds and animals at our door step.

  • We planned 4 nights and finally stayed 7. Its a fantastic place. The house is situated in a private area, together with other holiday homes. We didn't have contact with the owner, only with the administration who takes care of some houses. But every house in this area is privately owned. Its a very quiet and peaceful place. The kitchen is well equipped. In the house are books, games, music and films. A lot of birds and wallabys are around the house. You can spend some wonderful holidays here. Walking tracks are not far away. There is a nice coffee shop infront of the area and a store, were you can buy basic grocerys. We love our days here.

  • Very nice house with beautiful surrounding. The place is sparkling clean and the location is great. You don't need the car while you are staying there as you can walk to convenience store, walking tracks, cafes and restaurants. You can feed the parrots in the terrace and the wallabies are close by.

  • Had a wonderful stay, peaceful and quiet. The lodge was immaculate, SO much bigger than we realised. It was modern and just absolutely beautiful. Wallabies and parrots came to visit which my parents who were visiting from England just loved. Would love to go back in winter and curl up by the fire! Thank you for an amazing stay!

  • Thanks for a wonderful stay. It seems a rare thing nowadays, to find such authentic and warm hospitality. Such a lovely place to stay, the cottage and the animals were a heartfelt and delightful experience. The communication, cleanliness and amenities are tops. The extra specials are the walking tracks through the rocky country landscape and along the creek, quiet days with the chooks and alpacas to add to the action, and beautiful starlit nights on the verandah. I miss the green tree frog whose bathroom home we shared too! We'll be back one day.

  • It is IMPOSSIBLE to overstate how incredibly amazing Debbie's place is. Apart from 100 out of 10 for cleanliness, the quality of the self-built cottage and the styling and the beautiful vintage furnishings along with modern amenities, is an absolute winner. Debbie herself couldn't do enough for us. She is personable, passionate and professional, I recommend her meals - then you can stay and enjoy the peace, wildlife and reconnection....especially in the spa. If you want to get away in comfort, peace and style, to do something like swim in the local waterfall or see Bunya mountains, or write a book in peace, and enjoy amazing, caring hosts, book in now. I know I will be back. ....I seriously can't wait to go back. Thanks Debbie and Pete, for all your love and care and caring touches xxx

It was represented accurately and was remarkably clean for an older building.. there was enough of the school bits remaining to feel a part of history but plenty of comforts of home.. beautifully quiet surroundings, close to the palms national park which was a delight.. Jim and his daughter were super easy to communicate with and on hand when we needed them.. If you can stay there, go for it!
