When you arrive at The Mangersta Pod you will find yourself in an extremely clean and comfortable haven. To ensure you have a good night's sleep the camping mattresses were replaced by a comfortable mattress right from the start. Situated in the village of Mangersta on the Atlantic coast of Lewis, the pod is a few minutes walk away from a remote beach and stunning cliff walks. This is an area of exceptional natural beauty with over 20 beaches as well as beautiful moorland and lochs.
The ideal place to relax. Very private with a beautiful view over to Mealisval, the highest hill in Lewis.
The village of Mangersta has ten occupied houses, bordered to the west by the Atlantic Ocean. The hills, to the east, are close by. The Pod looks out over the village crofts to the highest hill in Lewis, an ever changing view because of the fluctuations of light and weather conditions.
  • This is a lovely pod in a great location. Even in winter it was warm, comfortable and cosy. Tosh is a kind, thoughtful and generous host. I thoroughly recommend it.

  • What a brilliant pod. Big enough for one, or I'm sure two people, with everything you need in a well designed and compact space. The pod was absolutely spotless and so comfortable and welcoming. There was everything you could need for a cosy retreat or a base to visit the stunning scenery of West Lewis. Tosh and Jed have really thought about what people need from a small space to stay and are just so lovely and kind.

  • I don’t even know what to say about this place. I was traveling alone and Tosh was an incredible host. She stood out in the rain for me when I was having trouble finding the place with a flashlight. (If you are traveling at night, Waze is a liar and says you have Arrived early-keep going and the pod is on your right at the bottom Of the hill and there is a sign out front). Anyway the pod is so incredibly comfy with all the things you may need to make a meal and take a nice hot shower. Tosh was always available for questions and to offer tips. Mangersta is an incredible place and part of the island. Not sure if it was because of the time of year I went but it felt like I had that corner of the world to myself most of the time. I was very sad to leave tosh and the pod behind and would definitely come back to stay again.

  • I loved every magical moment. From the cozy pod to the stunning views, it was an amazing adventure. And Tosh just couldn’t make you feel more welcome! She is such a warm, thoughtful hostess. I cannot wait to return.

    Katherine2019-10-19T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect! Wonderful little 'pod'. It has everything you need and is spotlessly clean. Ideal location for exploring the island. Beautiful beaches, coves and hills to climb if you are so inclined. Very peaceful and ideal if you need a quiet retreat. Tosh and Ged are excellent hosts and extremely welcoming/obliging. We couldn't have wished for more. Thank you!

    Deborah2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Mangersta is a lovely place, we enjoyed walks along the coastline and in the local area, as well as visiting lots of little museums and historical sites. Tosh and Jed were warm and welcoming and gave us lots of good tips about the area. The pod itself is well equipped and comfortable. Would happily stay here again!

    Rachel2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • A wunderfull place to be! We loved it very much. Tosh is a perfect host. The pod is lovely, fully equipped and very clean! 5 min to walk is one of the most beautiful beaches I ever saw. I highly recommend to stay there for at leaste tree days!

    Dominik2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully warm and welcoming place at the edge of the British Isles. Tosh has made a pod that is worthy of a royal visit, oozing charm and warmth. Still buzzing!

Beautiful old Crofthouse situated in the stunning bays area of the Isle of Harris. The house was lovingly renovated and restored by oursleves sits by the sea above the tranquil small working fishing harbour below. We have Wifi, TV, HiFi and record collection, a DVD player and Playstation with games for big and little kids. Sleeps 4 adults in one double and a twin room, with 2 childrens beds and a further sofa bed downstairs if needed.
The house is our own family holiday home so it is furnished as such. It has a friendly family atmosphere with every possible utility you might expect of a family home. It is centrally heated and has a Rayburn stove and a woodburner too. There is a full bathroom with Roll Top bath and power shower. We also have a Piano, Guitars and and easel for the creative.
Our neighbourhood is unique as we are at the end of a small road away from the main roads and yet next to one of the few working harbours in South Harris so the boats can be seen coming to a fro each day. We are within 10 minutes of the west coast beaches while also being situated within the beautiful bays area of the east coast and only 10 minutes from Tarbert for local amenities.
  • Great Accommodation

    Brown2019-09-28T00:00:00Z
  • The crofthouse really is a very special place - a stunning house in a beautiful part of Harris. The scenery is spectacular, like mini fjords set in a rocky moonscape with incredible white, sandy beaches just down the road. Jonny has done up the house to a very high standard with lots of thoughtful touches - great record collection and library, plus guitars and a piano. Kitchen is fully equipped to cook the abundant seafood available to buy all over the island. After 2 weeks me and my husband (and dog) feel entirely rejuvenated!

    Emily2019-06-22T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our week in the crofthouse, such a peaceful spot but still good access for Tarbert and heading north and west for beaches and hills. Hushinish, Bosta and seafood on Scalpay were highlights! The downstairs living space in the cottage is fab and ideal for families, and we really appreciated having the enclosed garden for our dogs. Jonny was a great host and always easy to get in touch with. Thank you!

    Martin2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jonny’s place is great value for money, beautiful location, well equipped with many thoughtful touches. We really enjoyed our stay on the Isle of Harris. Perfect

    Julie2019-05-04T00:00:00Z
  • The Crofthouse suited our family needs beautifully. The open plan space downstairs allowed us all to be together in the evenings in comfort and style after a day’s adventures. The bedrooms were very generous and beautifully decorated. The location was very peaceful and also a great starting point for walks if you don’t want to get into your car that day. We hope to return to Harris soon and would not look to any property but this one.

    Grace2019-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved staying at the Croft House - it is such a beautiful place and we were so glad we booked. The house is stylish, comfortable and really relaxing. Loved spending the evenings playing piano, cooking and sitting in front of the log burner. The enclosed garden was great for dogs too. Would definitely recommend to anyone and hope to go back and stay again!

  • A great cottage to spend time at. Cosy and homely. Also loved the fact it’s on the interesting, desolate and hauntingly beautiful south Harris. Superb base for stunning beach hunting and wild walk explorations.

Alasdair's home, Aird Druim an Tolla, is located on the east coast of Harris in a secluded location. It is an ideal place to 'escape' from the pressures of modern urban living.
Alasdair's Siberian larch clad home has a twin bedroom with its adjacent toilet /shower room available only for guests.
Alasdair's 'simple' home is in a remote, secluded location with ever-changing views over the Minch to the Isle of Skye and the Scottish mainland and inland to the hills and moorlands of south Harris.
  • If you fancy sitting on the edge of the rocky hills overlooking the sea with a warm cuppa and a fiery hot peat fire. Well then look no further. Add to this lovely conversation, and well, my only regret is we couldn't stay longer.

    Lyndsey2019-10-12T00:00:00Z
  • Alasdair is a fabulous host and has a lovely house. We would totally recommend this Airbnb to everyone!

    Karen2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Terrific home, so much to see and do and read and enjoy. Alasdair's knowledge of geography, geology, history and building is remarkable. It was a joy to spend days and nights there, already longing to return.

    Lindy2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Forget the amazing home with incredible views in a stunning remote location! It was Alasdair that truly made our one night stay a memorable one - my favorite Airbnb experience to date. To start with, Alasdair accommodated our request for early checkin. After settling into our room Alasdair took us on a short hike around his property, showed us how he dyes wool using lichengathered from his property, and pretty much entertained us all afternoon. We even shared a home cooked meal together- I cooked up the main meal and Alasdair whipped up dessert for us. The next morning, Alasdair treated us to his home made croissants for breakfast along with eggs, cereal, juice, tea, coffee etc. It was amazing! Alasdair is an exceptional host all around and I would highly recommend a stay with him!

    Julee2019-09-09T00:00:00Z
  • Best part of our Scottish road trip by far! Definitely book an extra day, we wish we had! Stunning location, comfy home, and Alasdair is a fantastic host who took us on a walk and made us a lovely evening meal, Harris is a stunning island we will be back!

    Louise2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • Alasdair's place offers stunning views of the rugged shores for which Harris is famous. Friendly and hospitable, Alasdair provides a delicious homemade breakfast and he is happy to share all the local information you'll need for a perfect holiday.

    Michelle2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • If anyone deserves the term “superhost” it’s Alasdair. His laid back, kind and warm manner made our stay at Aird Druim An Tolla extra special. The view from his house is spectacular in all weathers. Alasdair made fresh delicious breakfast each morning and shared local tips and knowledge with us. We will definitely be back!

    Rachel2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed with Alasdair and Ross for two nights recently. Alasdair was a fantastic host, going out of his way to answer questions about the people and history of the area. His breakfast meals where prepared fresh every morning from his well stocked larder and fresh farm eggs from his chickens on site. Views were incredible and his location is very quiet. Ross, the four y/o Border Collie was fantastic and our best friend while we were in his castle. We really enjoyed our time visiting Alasdair's and Ross's warm home. Everything was perfect.

IF TRAVELING BY FERRY, ENSURE YOU CONTACT THE FERRY COMPANY BY TELEPHONE AS THEIR ONLINE BOOKING SYSTEM HAS BEEN FAULTY THIS YEAR. APOLOGIES. This charming island cottage is an ideal base for visitors to explore the Scottish Outer Hebrides. Wifi and freeview tv, stove and rustic appeal - this house is ideal for up to 2 people. + loft accommodation for two. Your host Niall is an islander born and bred - welcome!
Taigh Neill is situated in the centre of the beautiful island of Benbecula and offers easy access to both the multitude of stunning beaches on the West side of the Island and the many moorland walks through the hills and mountains to the wildlife abundant rugged shores of the East side. This thatched cottage, originally built in 1880, has recently been renovated and offers a high standard of extremely comfortable self catering accommodation full of rustic charm, including a peat burning stove, combined with the modern facilities required for your stay. Ideally located to explore the neighbouring Islands, Taigh Neill is just a short drive from the islands of South Uist, Eriskay and the ferry port to Barra, all of which were featured in the most recent series of the popular BBC documentary ‘An Island Parish’. Alternatively drive North and explore the vast empty beaches and breathtaking scenery of North Uist and Berneray. Regardless of where you decide to go in the Uists, you will be sure to be impressed by the abundance of wildlife including birds such as the hen-harrier, the illusive corncrake and the majestic sea eagle, or take a walk along the sandy machairs and be astounded by the diverse variety of scented wild flowers which carpet the land. For the more adventurous visitor, take a boat- trip around the west coast and get a closer look at the hundreds of sea birds and seals which make their home on the surrounding coast-line. A rare treat is the otter which can be seen swimming and hunting around the shallow bays or basking in the sun on the seaweed covered rocks. Whatever your reason for visiting the Islands, Taigh Neill is an ideal place to come home to at the end of your day.
Rural charm, breathtaking views, closeness to nature, with plenty of local shops, restaurants, pubs, ceilidhs
  • The cottage is beautiful and in a great location to explore Uist. Plus it’s a only short drive to the local shops and a couple of restaurants which was handy. Communication with Niall was super responsive and he was very accommodating letting us stop for further nights when our ferry was cancelled.

    Charlotte2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a very special cottage. The perfect place to relax and cozy in front of the fire, cook a meal, and hibernate, if that's what you want. Perfectly situated to easily get to the local shop and nearby bistro or to take off further afield and explore. Communication with Niall was fantastic and my husband and I had the immediate feeling when we arrived that we were sharing a place where great care has been taken to make people feel at home and welcome.

  • Nialls house is cosy, warm and really great. We had a beautiful stay there- and Niall gave us a lot of tips! Thanks that we could come with our 4 dogs!

    Robert2019-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • We had a brilliant three days on the Uists and Barra. We had such fun and after a day touring the islands we came back to this perfect base, lit the fire (peat logs) and had a glass of wine before going down the road to Charlie’s for supper. The house is lovely, very cosy, and had everything we needed. Beds were very comfortable and it was so quiet. Niall was very responsive (I think the best I have had on Airbnb) and came straight round when we needed something). Highly recommended.

    Jamie2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a great little Croft. Recommend going to a local shellfish market to get your dinner.

    Christopher2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • Booked the cottage with 4 hours notice after a ferry cancellation gave us an extra 2 day holiday. Cottage was perfect, great location in Benbecula, thoughtfully and stylishly decorated. Big comfy sofas and cosy duvets, just what you need at the end of a day exploring. Would recommend this cottage to anyone travelling to the Islands.

    Fiona2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic cottage, a perfect base for exploring Benbecula and north and south Uist. Would recommend a walk up rueval - we were lucky enough to see eagles - and to Cula Bay. The cottage is really comfortable, well equipped and has been renovated to a high standard. Niall is a great host, giving information about the area and the history of the house. Would definitely stay again if we were back in Benbecula.

    Norma2019-09-11T00:00:00Z
  • Loved this rare chance to stay in a traditional croft, with its cosy interior. Great bathroom with endless hot water - perfect after some thoroughly wet and windy exploring of the islands, plus super-comfortable, generous sofas. Our eight-year-old LOVED the mezzanine floor, a real adventure for her. We all enjoyed trying to identify the birds in the garden, and at this time of year, the orange crocosmia and honeysuckle looked and smelled great. Thanks!

A cosy, open-plan cabin for two overlooking the sea with outstanding views north to the Outer Hebrides; east beautiful Loch Snizhort, south views to Raasay and the mainland; and the ferry port of Uig and Trotternish Mountains behind. The accommodation comprizes a lounge area, well equipped kitchen, washing machine, toilet/shower room, and double bed on the mezzanine standing room restricted, wifi, plenty of books, maps and DVDs, No TV. Good mobility is required to access the mezzanine floor.
The Cabin is compact but has a great feeling of space inside. It has a marine theme with its furnishings, artwork, some of its wall lights and boaty staircase. There are also a few objects originally from old boats. The Cabin is on a working croft and lies within its own garden and next to the croft house.
The surrounding area is a quiet crofting community along a single track road next to the sea and the countryside also makes the Cabin an ideal centre for walking or off road cycling, with paths through the forestry or out to the lighthouse on Waternish Point. Boat trips are available nearby at Stein, or Portree and farther South from Carbost and Elgol.
  • We had a wonderful stay at the cabin! Beautiful little spot out of the way, away from the touristy spots. Beautiful views. Lovely and warm. The bed was snug and perfect for an evening out of the weather! Very kind hosts who were quick to help us out with anything we needed. Thanks again!

    Tom2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is so cute and filled with lovely little touches that give it some much character. The setting is perfect as well with stunning views of the coast and, at night, a lovely little skylight by the bed to stargaze from.

  • We had a lovely time in Skye. The area is very remote, but scenery is gorgeous and well worth the timely driving to and from places! Make sure to have a Sat Nav but more importantly follow Kathy's advice re directions to the house!

    Eleanor2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a lovely stay in the cabin. We loved it from the moment we arrived from the beautiful location to the design and warmth of the building. That feeling only improved as we spent more time in the cabin. It's been so well designed and everything has been thought of. Lots of helpful information in the binder about the cabin itself and the local area. We were torn between spending more time inside or exploring the island. Kathy was very prompt with information and responses after booking and Gareth was very friendly and helpful on checking in.

    Tom2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy's place is very tidy and has everything you need for a multi-day getaway -- all the amenities provided for like it's your home. We did not meet Kathy but she was very responsive over messaging, and Gareth helped us check in. Everything else was addressed in the binder and brochures provided. We'll definitely come back again and maybe stay for a few days longer.

    Stephanie2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy’s place was the best home we stayed in of all of Scotland. We loved the remoteness of the place and the sound of the wind beating against the cozy cottage at night. The place is quite obscure but once you reach the small town of Geary, follow her directions and you’ll find the place just fine. Kathy was a really responsive host and her and her family were welcoming, providing us with tips about the area. Would definitely stay there again!

    Gwen2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Kathy's cabin is a little magical retreat, where you can forget about all your worldy problems. Yet it is equipped with everything that you need. And rest assured that you will be welcomed by the nicest people!

    Christof2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay in a picturesque location on Skye. Perfect for two, more than enough space and lovely to have the option to cook and self cater. Lots of lovely little extra touches that helped us make the most of the island. The views from the cabin are heavenly and it's a great location to visit a lot of the attractions in the north. Hosts were friendly and informative about the area. Would definitely stay again!

The cottage is ideally situated for local amenities, walking distance from Tarbert and the ferry terminal. Leisure centre is in the school just across the way, and Tarbert's amenities include a garage, range of bars and hotels (Hotel Hebrides' Mote Bar and Harris Hotel often have live music events), day to day grocery, tweed shop, Essence of Harris candle, soap and gift outlet, ferry terminal, tea room, post office, bus station, soft play, playpark, leisure centre and distillery are only a short walk away. Lewis and Harris occupy the same landmass, so it is possible to drive to Stornoway (37 miles) where a wide range of facilities, including two supermarkets for the 'big shop' are to be found. There is also an arts centre with cinema, larger soft play centre, garden centre, and a considerable variety of places to eat. Stornoway provides another ferry option too, via Ullapool. Things to visit on both Islands include Rodel Church, the beaches ( obviously!), Callanish Stones and Dun Carloway (undergoing conservation 2019). There are distilleries in Tarbert itself (offering excellent gin, as well as producing whisky for future sale) which does regular tours, and another at Abhainn Dearg, near Uig, Lewis. Phone ahead for appointment to visit. Tweed is a major local industry, and we have an excellent shop in Tarbert. There are other producers throughout the islands and it is often possible to see weaving taking place by arrangement. We have regular craft fayres in the village throughout the season, and Tarbert and the immediate area has a number of art, photography, craft, and glass producers that are well worth a visit. I’m more than happy to help you make arrangements to visit studios etc if this is of interest. Eating and drinking opportunities are ever increasing, and the standard is very high. As well as the excellent offer in Tarbert itself, there are some wonderful cafes and restaurants throughout the isles. We love the North Harbour Bistro (Scalpay) for special occasions, though advance booking is recommended. There is also a cafe there, as well as the excellent Temple Cafe (open Sundays) at Northton. Other favourite stops for us are Talla na Mara, which is home to the Machair kitchen restaurant (stunning views), and a number of local producers, including ‘Flavour’ chocolatier who sells ice creams that my own child begs for from the minute we get off the ferry! Even our snack vans are a cut above the usual. There’s a great van in the village beside AD’s shop run by our friends Tinnie and Russell, Taste and Sea on the road to Stornoway, and Blas bhon Iar at Horgabost beach, as well as a seafood shack at Rodel and a chippie in Tarbert on Main Street. Some of these take orders in advance, and Hotel Hebrides also offers takeaway. If you can stretch to it, consider pushing the boat out (geddit?) taking a sea trip to St Kilda. Kilda cruises have an office in Tarbert and Sea Harris is online and run by a friend of ours who sometimes offers good last minute discounts. Booking in advance advised and bookings are weather dependent. Shorter trips to the Shiants etc are also available. Various companies run scenic tours and adventure type activities, again I am very happy to help arrange this.
  • Lovely cottage, great location, comfy beds, clean, homely.

  • Great host, nice cottage in good location in Tarbert. Very nice touches and very helpful host

    Frances2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is slightly outside Tarbert on the road to Stornaway so a great location. Well equipped, good parking and fast response to requests prior to arrival. It was a great experience and one I would happily repeat. The only downside was missing the whale on the last day but there’s always next year!

    Si2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kelpie cottage is perfectly located to explore the islands. It’s just 25 minutes to the absolutely stunning Luskentyre beach and only three minutes from the ferry, meaning those needing to catch the very early boat can do so with ease. The cottage itself is very cosy and has everything you need, including the all-important Nespresso machine! Highly recommended.

  • Brilliant place for visiting Harris. Walking distance from practically everything in Tarbert and a lovely home to spend time in.

  • Good place to stay

  • We spent a week on this wonderful island of Harris in this lovely cottage. Ideally located to visit both Harris and Lewis, we particularly appreciated its location. Both Tarbet hotels offer delicious menus and we enjoyed the typical whiskey bar of one of the two located 5 minutes walk from the rental. The arrival with a key box is very convenient. The nice basket of welcome that we found on our arrival and very appreciable. We had no worries, everything is clean and the beds are very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and although the bathroom is a little small there is everything you need. We also appreciated the electric heaters for drying clothes and shoes after rainy rides. I highly recommend this rental that combines charm, comfort and functionality. And we hope to have the opportunity to come back to continue to discover the wonders of the Hebrides ...

4 Tobair Mairi is an excellent Studio apartment located in the heart of Harris in the old village of Tarbert next to all amenities such as hotels shops cafes marina sports centre and of course the famous Harris gin distillery. It is Ideally placed to explore all the beaches and scenery that Harris and Lewis has to offer and then return home to relax with a glass. This apartment is excellent for disabled travellers.
Tarbert is a fantastic seaside village with all amenities on your doorstep. It has as its centre piece the famous harris gin distillery with its visitor centre and cafe. The Tourist hub is the centrall prime location in harris to explore the Hebrides.
  • What a gem! Malcolm was very responsive to messages and very helpful. The apartment looked lovely from the description, but was even more of a beauty to stay in, our only regret was that we hadn't booked for longer. Cosy and characterful, yet with more than enough space for two, a well equipped kitchen and very comfy. Can't wait to return!

  • We had another wonderful stay at Malcom’s place. When we stayed in Easter last year, my boyfriend proposed and this time we were visiting for our wedding meal menu tasting and for my hair trial. It was so lovely to be welcomed with the usual cereal, milk, fruit, flowers etc. but an added touch of a box of chocolates and a ‘welcome back’ note was just lovely. We know we’ll be back. • Excellent location, very clean & tidy and good value. I would have no hesitation in recommending this to anyone.

  • We loved our stay at Malcolms place. 10/10 for location - central Tarbert just opposite the gin distillery and 1min to the Ferry. A few minutes from a few little shops, bank, eating places so ideal base for exploring Harris. Great value for money, bigger than we expected. Spotlessly clean. Lovely little touches of breakfast stuff, fresh flowers and chocolates. Easy check-in and private parking outside front door.

    Claire2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Again another perfect visit. Cozy wee apartment with nice finishing touches by Malcolm. Well stocked fridge, biccies and chocolates. Great location for touring Harris and Lewis and only a stones through from the ferry, although this time we came in from Stornoway as route from home proved much more straightforward. But still arrived within an hour from the ferry in Stornoway.

2 Log Cabin's based in the scenic village of Rodel in South Harris. Both cabin's are set up for self catering and are managed by the owner who is local from Rodel. Cabin's are furnished to a high standard and have extra features such as wood burning stove, jacuzzi bath and sauna. Cabin 2 is pet friendly so luxury for dog's and owners. There is a small garden to the back of the cabin where you can sit and relax and enjoy the peace of the village.
My husband Stephen weaves Harris Tweed in his loom shed next to our house so you will have the opportunity see a weaving demonstration while staying with us at the cabin. Also Included in the cost is bedding, towels,WI FI,and basics like tea, coffee, sugar, cleaning materials etc.
Rodel is a very quiet and peaceful village based in South Harris with 13 crofts set within lush green pastures. From the cabins you are looking out onto Roineabhal which is worth climbing for the views from the top. There are many great walks to do from the cabin take a stroll down to St Clements church or hike over the hill towards Borrisdale.
  • Lovely accommodation of a high standard, everything supplied to make it feel like home. Rebecca was quick to respond to any questions and the check in was straightforward. A lovely place to stay on the beautiful Isle of Harris!

    Matthew2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • Rebecca’s place is spotlessly clean and amazingly furnished. Describing it as a log cabin doesn’t do justice to how stunning and luxurious the accommodation is. Rebecca is an attentive host answering messages promptly and providing lovely touches. I can’t wait to return to the Isle of Harris and stay again. I would recommend anyone to stay.

    Laura2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cosy cabin. Spotlessly clean. A warm welcome from Rebecca and a real treat to see Stevie weaving Harris Tweed. Rodel has s a lovely village. Away from the motorhome madness of the west but still an easy drive away. Lots of great walks on the doorstep. Highly recommended. The sauna was a great treat on a stormy day!

    Kim2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • This place is outstanding! Situated in a gorgeous and quite valley, you can relax in luxury here whatever the weather. Only wish we had stayed longer.

  • We had such a lovely stay in this beautiful log cabin which was spotless and well equipped. Rebecca our host was wonderful and made us feel welcome with some personal touches including fresh eggs. We were treated to a weaving demonstration which was really interesting and given helpful tips on the local area. All in all a great stay for an economical price. Thank you

  • The place was spacious, charming and located in a beautiful part of the island - on a short walk on our first day we discovered lovely old church and an amazing seafood shack just up the road. Rebecca was really helpful and gave us lots of great tips for exploring the island. We loved our stay!

Crook Cottage is over 100 years old and is a traditional, hand-built, Hebridean stone cottage. The accommodation overlooks Loch Beacravik (a sea loch), so fishing is just stone's throw away; or perhaps a spot of mussel picking in one of the nearby inlets. Wildlife enthusiasts will find themselves spoiled for choice, with otters, seals, oyster catchers, and the occasional bottle-nosed dolphin all on view from the comfort of the cottage windows (bring some binoculars!).
Crook Cottage dates back to the early 1900s and is a traditionally built Hebridean stone croft house. Its name derives from the hand-crafted shepherd's crook which was recently discovered within the walls of the kitchen. Tradition has it that such charms, hidden within a building's structure, deter evil spirits from the family home. The ground floor comprises a large lounge and recently fitted open plan kitchen-diner. The lounge, with two large 3-seater sofas, is centred around an oak-framed wrought iron, open fireplace. The window seat, finished with Harris Tweed curtains, also offers beautiful views of Loch Beacravik. TV, DVD player, WiFi and Hi-fi with a small selection of DVDs and CDs are available. The quintessential country style kitchen-diner is fitted with solid oak worktops and houses a range cooker, fridge-freezer, dishwasher and washing machine. There is also a large dresser with telephone and information resources. Windows to the front aspect offer stunning views across the bay. FIRST FLOOR Upstairs are two spacious double bedrooms, both with uninterrupted views across the loch. Two further, single, fold-out beds make accommodation more flexible. A travel cot is also available for infants. The bathroom houses a shower over a long and deep tub; perfect for soaking after a day's walk. There is also an electric shaving point, separate toilet, and wash-basin across the landing.
  • Crook Cottage is wonderfully isolated, in a picturesque location. It's really comfortable, and a great place to be if the weather isn't so hot!

    Phil2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Such a relaxing and peaceful week on Harris in the lovely Crook Cottage! Cottage had everything we needed and was in a gorgeous spot- most of the time all you could hear were a few birds and the sea lapping against the rocks! Great base for exploring Harris and Lewis!

    Frances2019-05-21T00:00:00Z
  • A great cottage located in the most scenic of areas. The views are stunning and offer lots of opportunity to view the local wildlife. The cottage itself is very well equiped and catered for all our needs. Loved the large dinning kitchen in particular. Highly recommend the cottage and would not hesitate to return.

    Colin2019-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely time at Crooks cottage, everything was as described and it was a perfect location on Harris for our walking holiday. We saw a lot of wildlife over the week, but seeing seals and a sea otter from the kitchen window was prefect.

    Laura2019-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • We spend a wonderful and Relaxing week in Gemmas cottage on the beautiful Isle of Harris. The cottage is about 20 Minutes from Tarbert on a quiet single track road - the drive there is stunning, through wonderful Harris-typical landscapes along the coast and the bays. Although the road leads right past the back of the house, it's incredible quiet (And after a few days you wonder more about the very rarely passing cars than about the frequent sheep in the front Yard ;) ) The views from every single window are staggering. You can watch otters, the landscape in the changing light during the day, the tides and wunderful sunrises. The cottage itself offers everything you might ask for: a cozy and comfortable lounge room with a fireplace and a huge kitchen, equipped with a dish washer and a washing machine in the ground floor and two big and comfortable bedrooms in the upper floor. It also has a bathtub, perfect after a rainy day :) Gemma was a perfect host - very accomodating and fair and fast reacting. When we were not able to find the hair dryer, she quickly organized one for us. We will definitely come back! :) Thank you, Gemma.

    Florian2019-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was our fifth stay at Crook Cottage in as many years. The cottage is warm, cosy, and comes with all the modern comforts you need. But more than that, it sits on the most beautiful sea loch, filled with wildlife an ideal location for touring Harris. If you're looking for peace and quiet and a place to get away from the business of life, Crook cottage is ideal. And our 8 year old boy loves it too!

    Matthew2018-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • If you are after cosy, homely accommodation in beautiful, tranquil surroundings with views from every window (from where you can often spot otters in the loch)... then Crook Cottage is the place to stay! As the listing says, bring your binoculars. Very comfy beds, well equipped kitchen, coal fire, cosy sofas & window seats, hot & powerful shower.. Although the road runs behind the cottage this is not a problem at all as there is very little traffic. The area is extremely peaceful. Bear in mind that you may well not have a phone signal or network coverage - but consider this a bonus! It takes about 25mins to drive to Tarbert (nearest shops - although there are 2 cafes on route). You can take a lovely stroll straight from the cottage, with views back over the Loch and out over the sea. Gemma was very helpful with answering my questions beforehand and there was lots of useful literature in the property. Would definitely recommend.

    Anne2018-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • At Crook Cottage, we found peace. Perfect peace. A wonderful little haven, well appointed ( beautiful and spacious kitchen) cosy, and clean. The visiting sheep and geese were a bonus, and the antics of the otters could be enjoyed from the living room window. Magical. We will return.

  • Absolutely amazing home with a beautiful view and everything we needed for a cosy and peaceful off-season getaway. Thank you! Sophia and Rupert :)

  • A lovely property in a great location. Situated in a remote spot on Isle of Harris with a view of sea loch. The property is open plan, nice for a relaxing holiday. Nicely decorated with a variety of interesting decorations and plenty of appliances and utensils for self catering. You can drive to many nice locations on Harris or just stay at the location and relax in the hot tub.

  • This is a gloriously situated, well equipped, nice and neat place to stay in tye beautiful Isle of Harris. It was perfect for our purposes, enjoying the area and have a nice place to come back to. Pictures cannot possibly do this place justice, it is super nice. It actually is a lot roomier than we had expected!

    Lex2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful accommodation in a beautiful spot on Harris. Easy to access the main sites of the island (both Harris and Lewis) whilst also enjoying a tranquil setting. Even the road to the house has lovely views. The house itself has everything you need for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. It is more roomy than the pictures suggest. We would definitely recommend paying extra for the hot tub. There were also nice touches such as fresh robes in the bathroom and hotel style toiletries. Communication was also very good with Tony and Eva. Highly recommend staying here and we hope to return again in the future. Xoxo

    Daniel2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • This was my second visit to Anthony and Eva's place. I came back for the comfortable space and the beautiful location. This time, in the space of ten minutes, I saw an otter swimming in the bay from the from the French Windows, and then, as I was boiling a kettle, I saw a very large bird of prey. It could have been an eagle of a buzzard. I don't care. It was beautiful. This was about 7.00am so it pays to get up early. There is a good sound system and plenty of CDs to choose from. Also a good library. You won't get bored!

  • Alex House is a few miles from Tarbert. Although we were there with the bikes, we really enjoyed the stay on Scalpay. The room and bathroom were clean and Alex was very attentive. He opened his whole house for us, had a delicious breakfast and even charging cable with all connections. When we forgot our water bottle at 6 o'clock in the morning, he drove us by car and brought it to us. We like to come back to Alex and can highly recommend him.

  • This is an ideal place to stay on Uist. The space is really generous, modern, warm and clean - which is a nice juxtaposition with the rugged elements of the Isles! Morag was very welcoming on arrival and had left lots of little extras you don't usually get elsewhere. When I come back this will be the first listing I look for!

Berneray is a beautiful island with stunning beaches. Our home offers a ground floor room with kingsize bed and private shower room adjacent. Tea and coffee are freely available and a continental style breakfast is included. Guests have a private sitting room with Sky TV and wifi access.
Guests have privacy of their own bedroom, shower room and sitting room.
Berneray is a beautiful island. There are stunning beaches, lovely walks, a working harbour and a small hill to climb from which to see beautiful views. Our home is close to the ferry for Harris and a short walk from the well stocked shop and bistro which serves evening meals from March to September.
  • Sharon's place was amazing, she provided great tips on the local area and provided us with an amazing breakfast. This was our favourite stay on our trip to the Outer Heberdies :)

    Sophie2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very welcoming and friendly. Despite a power cut Sharon went out of her way to make sure we were provided with an early breakfast. Thank you Sharon. The room was very comfortable and private.

  • Sharons home was what you would expect from a traditional Scottish home and spotlessly clean and comfortable certainly recommend to all and hospitality excellent

  • Comfortable bedroom and lovely bathroom. Short walk from the shop/bistro and ferry terminal. Friendly host and the best homemade scones ever!

  • Highly recommend! Sharon’s house is a beautiful spot on Berneray with great views. The guest part of the house is well portioned off with an enormous and modern bathroom, and lovely touches to all spaces. Sharon was very welcoming.

  • This is a very lovely spot--I would have stayed longer if I could. The hosts are charming and interesting people--chatting with them was quite nice. They have a wealth of knowledge about the local area which they are glad to share. In addition, they have a house that they have shaped around the needs of travelers. Please do stay here; you will not be sorry.

    Tim2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed for just one night at Sharon's house and really enjoyed it. She was so nice to cook us breakfast early in the morning, which was truly delicious. We very much felt like home. The place is really easy to find and us very close to ferry terminal if your are hopping between the islands.

    Andrey2019-08-06T00:00:00Z

A conversion of one of the few surviving Black Houses built by the last family to leave St. Kilda. Steeped in history and natural beauty the cottage is ideal for beach lovers, walkers, cyclists, bird watchers, fishermen and families looking for the perfect relaxing holiday.
Atmospheric cottage to appreciate the peace and tranquility of the islands with no wifi tv or phone.
Fabulous views across Ardhasaig bay towards the Clisham which is the highest mountain on Harris.
  • Great location on Harris in Ardhaisaig. Very cozy, charming place to stay no matter the weather. We enjoyed our time here and loved having a fireplace.

    Mary2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic place to stay in The Western Isles. It has a historic feel to it being an updated version of one of the old black houses which puts you in immediate touch with the rich and accessible heritage of these amazing islands. The location is quite perfect between the rugged, rocky hills and pristine beaches of Harris and perhaps the better known locations of Lewis to the north. The house has a lovely little fireplace, a cosy living room, a very well equipped kitchen and an amazing collection of books related to the islands. The good weather provided us the opportunity for long walks and discovering the wonderful places on offer, but equally, the compulsory “bad” weather gave us the chance to relax and decompress in a calm, peaceful (TV and internet free) environment. Christian is a great host - very responsive and welcoming. All in all, a highly recommended place to visit Harris and Lewis.

    Andrew2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Very comfortable, thoughtfully furnished house with loads of character; well situated for exploring Lewis and Harris. We enjoyed walking, beach combing, 'sea watching' (coast near Scalpay Lighthouse a favourite), sightseeing and even a swim!

    Sophieke2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • The Old Croft house is in a brilliant location in Ardhaisaig to see the whole island (and Christian sends great instructions to get you there). The house is lovely and filled with games and books to wile away evenings and any rainy days. The house is a converted traditional blackhouse, which is brilliant to be in.

    Jonathan2019-08-03T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a great week at the Croft House. Beautiful place with a good library, a good chimney... everything you need to go and discover this magical island.

    Maud2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful relaxing week stay - no internet or tv which really makes for a relaxing holiday ( internet connection is not reliable and sometimes not available on Harris so make sure you have mobile data ) beautiful finishing touches and amazingly clean

    Shelagh2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely, well-loved cottage with history. It’s so comfortable to come back to after a day in the islands. Thank you!

    Katherine2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn't have chosen a better place to stay. The Old Croft House is an incredibly atmospheric and wonderfully located croft, perfectly placed to explore both Harris and Lewis. Very comfortable - and with only sheep for neighbours a quiet and restful haven from a more frantic world. Christian was an excellent, communicative host. Highly recommended and we're already longing to be back! Many thanks for a memorable holiday and our début in the Hebrides!

Seaspray bothy is one of two unique chalets inspired by the traditional Scottish bothy. Located in the crofting village of Arivruaich, Seaspray is set in stunning scenery on the shores of Loch Seaforth. It is conveniently positioned midway between the ferry terminals of Stornoway and Tarbert. Although Seaspray is a stone's throw from the loch shore with no one to overlook you, the A859 is at the end of the croft and a bus stop 5 minutes walk away allowing easy access to the rest of the Island.
A continental style breakfast can be provided each morning if required. This includes orange juice, crusty bread rolls, muffins, fresh fruit, cheese, porridge pots, cereal selection and milk. This is charged at £7 per person per day. Please let me know in your booking communication if you would like to book breakfast. Seaspray Bothy has a bedroom and a bathroom. It is furnished with a luxurious super king-sized bed, bed linen and towels. The bathroom contains a large walk-in shower and is large enough to hang any wet clothing. Seaspray has underfloor heating to create a comfortable warmth in the tiled floor and a wood burning stove to heat the room. The wood burner is supplied with firelighters, kindling and fuel and guests are encouraged to light the fire and experience the stunning atmosphere of this location. Seaspray and Driftwood Bothies are linked by the shared space of a covered courtyard. Outdoor seating is provided for guests to enjoy the ever changing scenery. Cooking facilities are only provided beneath the covered courtyard. There is a traditional BBQ and a portable electric hob, both of which are free to use. Plates, cutlery, utensils and cookware are all provided. We only ask you bring your own charcoal. An area to cook using your own cooking stoves is also provided. There is also a central firepit called an OFYR in the courtyard, which can be used as a BBQ and grill for groups. Please tell me if you are interested in using this and I can give you further information. In the courtyard there is also a Belfast sink with hot water for any washing up required, along with outdoor seating and table. A family-sized fridge is also provided to store your food. The floor of Seaspray is tiled and level to allow unrestricted access to all areas including the shower. There is a small step into the bothy from the courtyard.
Seaspray bothy is in the middle of the island and is surrounded by the beautiful scenery of Loch Seaforth. The stunning beaches of Lewis and Harris can all be reached in around an hour or less by car. The largest town, Stornoway, is 18 miles away and has two supermarkets.

The Little White Bothy is very central - offering the best choice to explore both Lewis and Harris. With views of Loch Erisort and the surrounding hills, it's a perfect place to go and relax. The Erisort Inn is only one mile along the road, serving locally caught seafood - booking essential. The bothy is very suitable for those looking to pursue walking, photography, or a quiet place to unwind, sit in the porch read a book watch out for eagles soaring by.
    It's relaxing!!!
Balallan is one of the longest villages in Scotland, almost 4 miles long. The bothy sits at the end of the village onto the Loch Erisort road. Although the bothy is on the roadside it still offers a sense of peace and quiet, seclusion without isolation. The village does not have any shops for supplies - there is a post office, and further up, a small cafe within the community building.
  • This is a lovely little place to stay; small but perfectly formed, and in the right spot to experience Lewis&Harris properly

  • We had a very lovely stay in Fiona’s place. It was very well situated so we could explore extensively. I can highly recommend her place to anyone wishing to stay in the area. We would definitely return if our plans bring us back to the island.

  • We had an amazing stay and felt so at home at the Bothy. It had everything we needed in the kitchen the place was spotless. It was perfectly placed for us to explore Lewis and Harris. It is off the main road so very peaceful (although I think everywhere is peaceful!) with stunning views out of every window. A great place to stay and a fantastic host! Fiona checked in on us a couple of times and we really felt that she wanted us to enjoy our stay. We hope to be back.

Self-catering 1850s blackhouse set in the North Harris hills. Lovely remote area close to Loch Seaforth on a working croft with hens at your door and eagles in the sky! Kitchen/sitting room, one double bedroom and shower room. All linen, towels, electricity and gas for cooking is provided. Eggs from the hens will be in the cottage for you and more can be bought if wanted. Peace and quiet plus walking tracks out the hills from the door.
An ideal self-catering getaway to relax and enjoy the islands of Lewis and Harris. All amenities are at the cottage except WiFi but there is limited Vodafone access. Being a traditional, original Blackhouse type building, the accommodation is compact and can only sleep two people in the double bedroom. Heating at present is by electric heaters and a log-effect electric fire.
The hills in this area are known as the most likely place you will see Golden Eagles and Sea Eagles. Indeed, during the summer months, the RSPB in conjunction with the North Harris Trust, conduct an Eagle Walk every Wednesday morning from the car park at Bowglass. If you do not want to cook your own meal, the Loch Erisort Inn, 10 miles north from Bowglass, has excellent home-cooked food including local seafood. The shores of Loch Seaforth are just a walk away across the fields where mussels can be picked from the rocks at low tide.
  • We loved this cosy little blackhouse which despite being small has everything you need. Harris is like another world and in the blackhouse you really feel part of it. It is just off the main Stornoway to Tarbet road which helps with getting around but is still in a remote location. The lack of mobile signal or WiFi further enhances the feeling of being away from it all.

    Andy2019-09-18T00:00:00Z
  • We love staying at Miranda’s cottage. The place is in a lovely and very convenient location and easy to get to as well. The cottage has everything that you can possibly need! The hens and sheep are around and you can enjoy tranquility and lovely loch views. There few good hill walks not far away and drive to Tarbert is not long. You have a take away van with great selection and quality food about 10 minutes walking from the cottage. Would be recommending Miranda’s place to family and friends as well. Thanks for having us!

    Polly2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Greig’s place was absolutely wonderful. The Yurt was beautifully located overlooking the loch. Greig showed us around and pointed out where we could potentially see otters, seals and eagles. We would definitely stay here again next time we are in the area.

    Heather2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a magical place! Superb location and view. Wish we could have stayed longer. Fabulous host who showed us where to spot the local otters and seals.

    Nicola2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Unfortunately, we were unable to stay with Greig due to complications with the ferry back to the mainland, however, Greig was a pleasure to deal with and hopefully we will be able to stay in the future.

    Allan2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in a yurt for two nights. Completely new experience, very interesting. The yurt is well equipped and the stormy weather was no problem. The shared facilities are sufficiently clean. The location is absolutely great to explore the stunning southern part of Harris.

    Benedict2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • I would recommend everyone who are new to Hebrides like me. Greig with his warm welcome , give you right destination to spot what are you looking for. His son took me for fishing at coast which is the climax moment in my trip. The place is really good for landscape photography and in good weather you might get otters and seal captures. Staying at the tent in this heavenly beautiful place will definitely lifetime experience. Thank you Grieg for everything

There is a microwave, kettle, toaster and small fridge in the room, tea/coffee etc is provided.

  • Small but well equipped accommodation just a few minutes drive from Tarbert. The hosts live in the house next door and are extremely friendly and helpful. The location overlooking the sea is very nice. Directly in front of the accommodation there is a whirlpool for exclusive use, which we renounced due to the at the time of our stay extremely aggressive mosquitoes. We can highly recommend the Smithy!

The property appears modern but is actually an ancient traditional dry stone croft house. The original walls are intact inside the exterior skin, rendering the property exceptionally warm and dry. The sitting room is a few meters from the sea, fitted with two huge picture windows for a fantastic view of seals, sea birds and occasional otters. If you really need to watch TV, broadband Wi-Fi compensates for poor mobile phone and TV signal reception.
Basic necessities such as hand-wash liquid, coffee, sugar, salt, teabags and a loaf of sliced bread are provided, as are fresh bedding, towels (for each guest) and toilet paper. A folding leaf table in the kitchen, seats 6 and plenty cutlery and plates/bowls are provided together with cooking utensils. Heating is by modern electric radiators throughout, with a wood burner in the sitting room to provide additional heat but is mainly used for a warm, cozy effect during winter nights. Bedroom 1 Double bed, ensuite toilet shower Bedroom 2 Double bed, Bedroom 3 Two single Captains beds All beds have new best quality mattresses. The cottage has recently been completely renovated with wood flooring throughout, two separate toilet/showers (main bedroom ensuite), electric heaters throughout and a wood burner in the sitting room. The furnishings are new, fresh and comfortable. The newly fitted kitchen is fully equipped with washing machine, electric cooker with oven, dishwasher and electric clothes dryer.
The view from the picture windows is magnificent. Beaches are in walking distance. There is a local store and bistro on the Island with excellent food. Lochmaddy hotel is 25 minutes drive
  • Well appointed, modern, very clean bungalow in a lovely location that is ideal for exploring Berneray and North and South Uist. The pleasure of watching a colony of seals basking immediately in front of the sitting room windows is a bonus.

    James2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful cottage in an unbeatable location! The seals outside the window were lovely to watch. The cottage was cosy, the log stove was a nice touch (logs and kindling can be bought from the Berneray shop and bistro just down the road), and the nearby beach on the west of the island was simply stunning.

  • Lovely space, good central heating and a wood burner if you can light it with the wind! Had everything we needed to cook with and two bathrooms also. Plenty of parking, easy to find.

  • Can’t recommend this property enough. Great touches like the welcome pack and flowers, heating on so the house was warm for us. Great location just 20 minutes from Stornoway with its great choice of excellent restaurants. Christine is a great host with really good communications throughout.

    Gareth2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Christine’s style is beautiful. Loved the interior. As well as being homely and clean and comfortable, Christine left lots of added extras like Arran Aromatics toiletries, wine, Stornaway Black Pudding and much more. A home from home and dog friendly too! Ideal.

  • Jane offers a wonderful experience for any guests wishing to stay here. Her cabin is rustic and stylish however even more so it is warm and comforting. The panoramic views from the cabin of the bay is breathtaking, viewing the stars are night time all added to our experiance at Skye. Terrific amenities with Jane going beyond standard procedures to ensure guests have a great time. Would recommend to anyone who wishes to see the best of Skye, you will not be disappointed.

    Robert2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The Larch Shed is a phenomenal space in a beautiful location. The Shed itself is the perfect amount of space for two people, with everything you need (including cooking essentials) as long as you stop in Portree for groceries on your way up. The location is indescribable - a beautiful view of a bay at the edge of Skye. It's great as a home base to explore all the Isle has to offer or as a cozy cabin to stay in, relax, read, and enjoy the ever-changing weather outside (we did both). Jane was the ideal host: Her house is right beside the shed, so she can help you with any problems, but otherwise, she gives you complete privacy. We only have good things to say about our stay, and hope to return one day!!

    Todd2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful dwelling overlooking a wonderfully remote coastline

    Jake2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • Spectacular find! Jane is absolutely the sweetest and has taken such care in providing a peaceful home away from home. If ever in Syke again, I will not hesitate to return to her lovely little shed. Thank you!

  • Both of us had longed to visit Skye for some time , so were quite selective on the location an accommodation that we required , and boy did we hit the jackpot with our selection. The Larch Shed provides a fantastic setting with magical coastal views with a unique twist of accommodation that ticks all our boxes . Jane is a superb Host with a distinct attention to detail that just like her affection for Skye simply shines through. The setting is immaculate with tasteful little touch's that made this a difficult location for us to leave. Without question we will be returning . Ray and Diane Watson County Durham England

Opened in January 2020, the Gate Lodge is a charming octagon with plenty of original character. Warm and well-equipped, it has been completely renovated and sits within the grounds of a working conservation farm. Only a ten minute walk from Loch Bay Restaurant, the Stein Inn, Skyeskyns, GoToStKilda and Diver's Eye Boat Trips, the lodge is surrounded by nature and wildlife with stunning views. It offers the perfect, peaceful break. Afternoon Teas and Farm Walks are available on request.
We aim to give you the best holiday Skye can offer. The Gate Lodge is the perfect place for couples to unwind and enjoy the peace of the Highlands. The Lodge has underfloor heating and a wood burning stove to keep guests warm during the winter months. The supremely comfortable Super King size bed is fitted with White Company cotton sheets and the generous bathroom offers a large walk-in shower, a bath, basin and toilet. The kitchen/dining/living area is in the original octagonal part of the Gate Lodge. Guests will have access to certain areas of the farm which specializes in conservation and grassland management. Our Aberdeen Angus herd play an essential part in keeping the wildflower pastures in good condition and the Farm is lucky enough to be visited by corncrakes in the summer months. Farm walks, illustrated talks, morning coffee and Full Traditional Afternoon Teas take place at the Farmhouse but pre-booking is essential. Waternish is famous for its spectacular sunsets, stunning views and friendliness.
The magic of Waternish begins with Fairy Bridge, just as you leave the road from Portree to Dunvegan. The spellbinding panorama of Loch Bay leads your eyes to Dunvegan Head, and round to the Minch and to North and South Uist on the horizon. From Trumpan and Geary the views move further north to Harris and Lewis – all these islands being part of the Outer Hebrides or the Western Isles. Waternish offers more than beautiful views and landscapes. Enjoy the taste of Skye with some of the best fresh local food and drink the island has to offer, as well as some of its leading tourist attractions. Waternish boasts some of the best sunset and night sky gazing locations in Scotland, all of which you can do from the comfort of the Gate Lodge.
  • We had a very relaxing stay in such a beautiful and tranquil location. The gate lodge is really well designed, to a very high standard, with everything you could possibly need. Would absolutely recommend!

  • Definitely a place to visit for the hospitality, cleanliness, luxury and beautiful surroundings. You must try an afternoon tea, delicious and the best we’ve had (and we’ve had quite a few!). Lucy gives that personal touch and will help in anyway she can.

    Clare2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely renovation of the Gate Lodge. Super clean with well equipped kitchen and some nice basic provisions left to get you started. Very comfy bed and modern wood stove to cosy up to if the weather is not too good, as was the case for our stay. Lucy answered my messages very quickly and gave clear directions to find Gate Lodge. Entry by key code so no annoying waiting around for someone to turn up! Roger (Lucy’s husband) popped by to say hello and dropped off more firewood when we ran out. Very hospitable but left us alone to get on with it. Nice views from the main room though sadly the weather was so bad during our stay we could barely see out!

Taigh Iomhair was originally a stone built thatched 'blackhouse'. It first appears on local historical records in 1814, but it is likely it was built in the latter half of the 18th century. The main structure of the house has not changed in over 200 years, but the property was internally refurbished in 2019, including new bathroom, kitchen, flooring and furnishings. The thatched roof was replaced many years ago, but the house still retains a character from a bygone crofting era.
Thick stone walls from a traditional croft house form the exterior of the cottage. Inside the cottage has been fully modernised. There is a new fitted kitchen with integrated dishwasher, washing machine/tumble dryer and fridge freezer. Double oven & grill, microwave, toaster and kettle are provided, as well as a range of cooking utensils and other essentials. The living room area includes a remote control LED fireplace and 43 inch smart TV. This provides access to a variety of apps such as BBC iPlayer, Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube. Guests will need their own login details to access these. A wifi router is situated in the living room and internet is available in every room. The TV includes a bluetooth connection facility for guests to connect devices for playing music. A portable bluetooth speaker also allows guests to play music, stream radio, etc, anywhere in the cottage. The bathroom features a new bathroom suite, with quadrant shower enclosure. The floor is tiled with underfloor heating. The bedroom comes complete with premium memory foam mattress to ensure guests are well rested throughout their stay at Taigh Iomhair. A 32 inch wall mounted TV is also located in the bedroom. Set up and controls on this TV are identical to those on the living room TV for simplicity of use.
The house is situated on a traditional island croft. This is a 5 to 10 minute drive from the village of Tarbert where shops, cafes, hotels, fuel, etc can be found. From Tarbert guests can easily access beaches to the south, mountains to the north, and explore further afield.
  • Beautiful cottage with an amazing view!

    Calum2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • We really enjoyed our stay, the cottage was cosy and had all you could really need. The views were spectacular. Location was perfect for us getting around to see everything we wanted to in and around Harris and also a stop off in Lewis. Overall we were really happy with our stay and hope to visit again.

    Holly2019-11-22T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful modern cottage which exceeded our expectations, we have both stayed in many places but this so far has been the best. Location and local beaches, walks were fantastic. The hosts were very helpful when needed. We are already looking into a return trip. Thanks again. Matthew and Heidi

  • Beautiful and stylishly appointed cottage finished to a very high standard. Lovely and warm to come back to in the evenings and lots of nice touches. Really pretty setting and still close to Tarbert for ferry and amenities. Would definitely book again.

  • Taigh Iomhair is the perfect mixture of old and new. The traditional blackhouse has been updated beautifully, providing a really lovely place to stay and return to after a day of exploring the incredible Isles of Harris and Lewis. The home's location is simply stunning and only 10 mins from Tarbert with local amenities. We felt really privileged to have Taigh Iomhair as our home, even if only for a few days. Thanks to Shona and Donnie for their hospitality.

    Anna2019-10-02T00:00:00Z
  • The Taigh Iomhair shoreside cottage was absolutely lovely. It had everything we needed for our three-night stay and there was ample space for the two of us. Its been completely renovated and Shona's taste is impeccable. The bed was very comfortable, the kitchen is well laid out and the living room inviting. The views of the water from each room are outstanding. I recommend getting home before the sun sets so you can sit outside with a cup of tea or gin and tonic from the local distillery and enjoy the view. The place is very close to the local road which only sees limited traffic at around 8:30 am and 5:30 pm. It is also close to numerous hikes that are all outstanding. I highly recommend staying at this seaside cottage.

  • Just great! Great hosts, you are fast on the beach and as a starting point for excursions, the house is also great. The area is fantastic. The house has everything you need. :)

    Barbara2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Scarista Beach House has direct access to a fantastic beach with lovely rock pools to explore and a huge sand dune to climb. This was also a great place to watch the stars on a clear night. Although I could easily spend a week and not have to venture far from the beach house, it's location makes it ideal for exploring West Harris. You need to see Luskentyre. The house is very comfortable for relaxing in the evening. It was fab to have a separate sitting room upstairs where our teenagers could watch their own TV. We ate in most nights, enjoying a Harris gin, but did treat ourselves to an elegant dinner at the Scarista House Hotel (adults only). Even when the weather is dull, the scenery is still dramatic and I would recommend booking a table for lunch at the North Harbour bistro on Scalpay.

  • Great house just mins for the beach. Callum’s Dad popped out to see us when we arrived to make sure we knew where he was if we needed anything which was lovely. Very clean with everything you need, kitchen very well equipped. Liked the added touch of supplying dishwater tablets and washing machine tablets. We had a lovely relaxing time waking on beaches and enjoying the island. The beach near the house is lovely but should point out not suitable for swimming or any type of water sport. All in all my family and I had a fantastic stay and would recommend to anyone.

    Gillian2018-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful spot on an island full of incredible views and amazing turquoise waters. The house is lovely and it is just a short walk to what feel like a private beach. Gorgeous white sands and so relaxing watching the waves roll in. Just a short drive to the newly opened Machair Kitchen where the food is great - also not to far to the new Co-Op in Leverburgh to stock up on supplies if needed. Amazing for kids, my wee niece and nephew ran about the beach non stop. Ideal for tiring them out at the end of the day meaning that you can relax with a nice glass of wine once they have crashed out! Would highly recommend and hope to return again.

It is an ideal base from which to explore the Isles of Harris and Lewis, with their amazing beaches, wildlife, and places of historical interest. The property provides comfortable accommodation, suitable for use all year, with a wood burning stove for extra comfort in winter.
Suitable for couples or single people. No smoking.
Gaelic language is spoken in Harris, although all residents speak English. Gaelic can be heard spoken in the local community. The local area has some spectacular scenery, boasting some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the natural environment is relatively unpolluted. If you are looking for a relaxing, friendly place to visit, which boasts an incredible natural environment, then this is the place for you.
  • Lena's place is ideally located as a base to explore both Harris and Lewis. Sparkling clean, and equipped with every thoughtful little touch you could wish for. Great log burner for those colder nights, but The apartment is toasty warm anyway with Hive controlled central heating. Really comfy bed, and the kitchen has every gadget you could ever need. Would highly recommend and will be back again when we're next up that way.

  • This flat is a great wee place. Good sized rooms, plenty of utensils in the kitchen, lovely living room, good size bedroom and a nice bathroom. A great place to stay. The only thing it lacked was a space to secure our bikes, but apart from that we had a wonderful stay. We would recommend this accommodation to anyone.

Tigh na Bruaich is a newly refurbished cottage in the beautiful village of Strond over looking the sound of Harris. The Cottage is a real home from home, with everything you may require to make your stay more enjoyable. Relax infront of a wood burning stove after spending the day exploring this stunning island. The nearest beach is a 10 minute drive, there's a beautiful restaurant / pub within walking distance. You won't be disappointed. Note Monday to Monday bookings during peak season .
Stunning views over The sound of Harris, with wild life in abundance.
Remote, although there's a local well stocked shop, resturant and pub within 10 min car journey.
  • The "House on the Hill" is a lovely experience. The conveniences are quite modern. The location on South Harris is good. A lovely view of the Sound from the bedroom and the main room. The market and restaurant are close by. The locals are very friendly and the sheep plentiful.

  • Our second time back and it did not disappoint. The cottage is in a a fabulous location and has been modernised to a high standard. What a view across to North Uist and Skye on a sunny day. Perfect for our toddler and the kitchen was fully equipped. Simply outstanding

    Blair2019-04-20T00:00:00Z
  • This is a wonderful cottage on a stunning part of the island (photos do not do it justice!). During our trip we saw an abundance of wildlife from the doorstep - including sea otters! Also saw the gannets diving, oystercatchers, seals & geese. Perfect location for exploring the island - ideal for a day trip to Uist, which is well worth a visit. Also perfect for a trip to venture along the Golden Road, a trip to the waves on west coast, stunning beaches & trips to North Harris. This cottage, on the Strond is, in our view, the best location on South Harris. We loved it and can’t wait to return 🙂

    Patrick2019-04-05T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret’s ‘House on the Hill’ is beautifully clean and well furnished. It provides a perfect location for a quiet, ‘get away from it all’ holiday in one of the most beautiful, yet unspoilt parts of the world.

    Stewart2018-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous week we've had in Margaret's cottage. It must have recently been done up as everything felt almost new and sparkling. It had everything we needed, and was very warm. It has a lovely looking wood burner but we didn't need it as the weather didn't necessitate it and the central heating was powerful. The photos don't do the cottage justice - the views are wonderful. And its only a 30 minute (very scenic) walk to the local pub/restaurant The Anchorage which is a fantastic place. You take your risks with the weather of course in Harris. We had a bit of teaming rain and lots of wonderful sunshine. Its a great cozy spot to hunker down if the weather's poor - or if you have a small window of dry only, the immediate area is wonderfully scenic so you can step out for a shorter walk. And if the weather's good there are great walks on the doorstep and the beaches just a 10 minute drive away. Margaret was speedy at replying and incredibly accommodating when AirBnb processed our booking on a day she doesn't normally rent from. Just got back today and missing it already. We very much hope to return. Martha & Tim August 2018
