This huge apartment is spread over 3 floors of a converted former Bank HQ building on the city's oldest street. It comes with a rare parking space, whole house sound system and is often featured in South African movies. Renovated with bespoke features (check out that front door and the four-poster bed!) and enough space for large groups to spread out. So special, you won't want to leave!

Featured on the Tastemakers Africa Johannesburg list of best Airbnb's in Africa and in the British Airways in-flight magazine full page article on the rise of Joburg CBD, this huge (2500sqft/230sqm) apartment is spread over the 9th, 10th and 11th floor of the heritage (listed), former Barclays Bank HQ, building on the oldest street in Johannesburg. Providing a different (some say more authentic )Johannesburg experience to the Northern suburbs, it is less than 10min Uber ride to Maboneng, Braamfontein, Newtown, Joziburg lane and 1Fox street, making it perfectly located to experience the city's urban revival and access the coolest parts of Jo'burg, whilst not having to put up with the noise that goes with actually staying in these 'lively' areas. Many don't realise that Johannesburg is also a pan-African cultural centre. The location of this apartment give much easier access to those aspects of our city. If you are looking for the Porsche/Rolex/Jimmy Choo experience of Johannesburg, you're likely to be happier in areas such as Sandton. The apartment is less than 10 minutes walk to the closest Citysightseeing open-top hop-on-hop-off tour bus stop, about 25 minutes drive from Johannesburg airport and 10 minutes away from the Gautrain station, giving direct access to Rosebank, Sandton, Pretoria and the airport. The layout of the apartment was designed so that the main living spaces would all benefited from outdoor space and the amazing city views. On the entrance floor of the apartment there is a Master bedroom suite which incorporates a large en-suite bathroom (with a huge walk in shower as well as a separate bath) walk-in-wardrobe and extra length queen sized bespoke four-poster bed; a second bedroom which has two extra length single beds; a cupboard and a desk; a third bedroom with two extra length single beds; and another bathroom. The middle floor of the apartment has an open plan living area (with a fabulous woodburning stove), dining area (with a six-seater dining table) and gourmet kitchen with slate counters, bespoke handmade cabinetry and stainless steel Smeg appliances. All of which creates an amazing homely room to hang out in. The Middle floor also has newly installed air conditioning. A wrap around balcony that gives some of the best views of Johannesburg's historic old city centre, available. All of the bedrooms and the main living area have triple-glazed windows to keep the city sounds out and the warmth in, during the short South African winters. Each of the bedrooms has a fan. An iron spiral staircase leads up from the living area, to the top floor deck room, with access to the roof deck which has ample seating around a fire pit, plus a built in bbq/braai and Jacuzzi with North facing (sunny side) city views. The apartment also has a solar powered hot water system and a Sonos wifi sound system, so if you have downloaded the Sonos app (from the Apple or Android App Store) you can play music from your phone, PC or tablet wirelessly, in any of the main rooms. 3 things guests like about my place... It's 5 minutes away from the party capital of Maboneng, but far enough away to be quiet at night. Chilling out on the amazing roof terrace. The open plan main floor, with the amazing kitchen and roaring fireplace 3 things they don't like... It's not in a posher suburb like Sandton. The Jacuzzi takes a long time to heat up. The spiral staircase that leads to the roof is quite narrow.
Update your view of Johannesburg in this calm oasis set high above the gritty city. Within minutes of the vibrant entertainment and artistic centres of Maboneng, Newtown, and Braamfontein. The guided local walking tours are highly recommended, as are visits to the African dinner clubs. Burgeoning with potential, Joburg is being rediscovered by locals of all races and is a convenient basecamp from which to explore Johannesburg’s most important historical sites like the apartheid museum and Soweto

  • This is an incredible apt sorrounded by various iconic buildings that are starting to be develop and refurbish thus the neighborhood is getting better little by little. The owners made and incredible job in this apt and the host is amazing, always there for help and guidance. Joburg is a city that is still overcoming its history and this place helps you get that feeling pretty well. There is supermarket and liquior store at walking distance but be aware that is close on weekends. Is a very easy acces to all the major sightseeing places when renting a car (highly suggested).

  • The place looks exactly as pictured online. Very modern and stylish space located within minutes of everything we wanted to see. Accessible to Uber with a few shops/grocery stores within walking distance. The rooftop was very nice with beautiful views of the city. We felt very safe and secure while in the home and we had everything we needed. The host was responsive and answered all our questions in a timely manner. I would definitely stay here again.

  • The place was neat, a perfect spot with a lot of hanging out places nearby. For the two nights, we stayed there. We dined at Pata Pata downstairs the food was nice, there was a live performing band on Saturday, it was really lovely we enjoyed and loved every moment of our stay. Keagan and his mom were very helpful whenever we needed them and very quick with responses..arranged parking upstairs with security and it was safe..check-in was also easy. We’re definitely coming back. Thank you.🌻

  • Wow !!! It was one of the best Airbnb experiences ever;) The house is simply sublime. Held by the dedication and kindness of Precious. Communication was easy, everything is perfect. You will love this house. Each room brings calm and contemplation. The backyard, the terrace and the swimming pool are elements that add to the perfection of the place. Take a walk in the early morning in the park that runs along the river behind the house. The kitchen is great for preparing family treats. In 30 minutes by car around the house you will have access to all the main attractions of Johannesburg. It was incredible, a perfect note! A must if you are traveling with family.   • Steve’s place is in one of the coolest places in a Johannesburg. The place offers amenities that I never encounter in other Airbnb’s. Like Amazon Alexa, PlayStation, etc. furthermore, there’s anything else you need for a comfortable stay. I’ll definitely go there again when I have to visit joburg. Please note that “Alexa, please kill the mosquito“ doesn’t work yet. Mosquitoes are still far superior to AI ;-)

As the guest room is part of my home, I will be present during your stay. Therefore the living areas in the house are not open for your use.
    Dine in a small Italian restaurant and in takeaway outlets within walking distance. Have a session in a Virgin Active Gym, only 10 minutes away. Close is the Zwartkop Country Club golf course, built around a river which it crosses 12 times. Enjoy shopping at Centurion Mall just 3.5 km away with over 260 shops, restaurants and movies.

    The Maboneng Precinct is a vibey and diverse area of Johannesburg. There’s plenty to do on your doorstep (quite literally – there’s a theatre and art-house cinema on the ground floor alone). Weekends are especially electric with Sundays igniting with a market-festival atmosphere with the famous Arts on Main Market opening up, expect choirs, singing, traditional drumming, gallery openings, walking tours, and the like. During the week the atmosphere simmers down although there are plenty of restaurants and bars which remain open for your entertainment. There is a backpackers very close-by which arranges amazing tours. Try their walking tours of Johannesburg. If you’re looking for tranquility and absolute silence, this isn’t the area for you. A stone’s throw away is the central business district which houses the head offices of South Africa’s major banks and mining houses. Sandton and Rosebank – the other major business districts – are also easily accessible, especially via the Gautrain (a 10 min taxi ride away). This makes 705 a great choice for the business traveler who is looking for a little more excitement than is offered in Rosebank and Sandton. 705 is: •in a secure, central part of Johannesburg (there is 24-hour security throughout the Maboneng Precinct) which is a must-see tourist destination; •great for the diversity of restaurants, bars, galleries and entertainment on your doorstep; •a great base to see the rest of Johannesburg’s attractions and invariably there’s an Uber taxi waiting downstairs at all times.   • What outstanding views from a lovely, enormous loft space in an Arts building. Very comfortable and safe in a district I found one needed to be very careful. Every amenity a traveller would want was provided. I would have liked if there was a small safe for valuables but that is my only suggestion. If staying, I strongly suggest Uber-ing everywhere as Uber is cheap and safe. I love public transport and made the mistake of taking the Gautrain to Park Station. I didn't realise Park Station area is unsafe. Phone thieves are everywhere. The restaurants within one block of this loft are excellent and cheap. I hired a local for a walking tour of the Arts district. So enjoyable! Take a minute to read the owners booklet of suggestions. Spot on and very helpful. Happy travels!

  • This is my second time staying at the Maboneng Penthouse and flat is enormous and very comfortable. Maboneng is definitely a party area so certainly be prepared for that but the penthouse apartment is conveniently located and well managed / maintained. I’d recommend to any traveler in Joburg.

    My home is spacious and comfortable to stay at. It is close to the OR Tambo Airport and Gautrain station. Travel time to the Airport is 9 minutes and 15 minutes to the Gautrain station. It has easy access to the shops and other entertainment destinations like Emperors Palace. My place is a walking distance to the Brentwood shopping centre and other Lodges. Bedroom No. 1 has a queen size bed and enough space for storage. Bedroom No.2 has a double bed size with a reasonable storage.
    My home has a fully furnished kitchen, Strong WIFI connection and enough space to relax. The top deck balcony offers an experience of nature overlooking few trees. This brings in the fresh air and the warmth from the natural light. This home gives you a getaway feel from the city.

    Our neighborhood is peaceful and friendly. Lots and lots of restaurants and take away places walking distance from our house. There are four medium shopping centres walking distance from our house. There are also about three places that will do washing and ironing of clothes.

  • My overnight stay at Ciska's in a private room was a very pleasant experience. Ciska was on hand to open the security gate for me at the prearranged time and escorted me down to the private room in the garden. It is a very tranquil setting in a well-maintained garden, lawn and sparkling pool. My room was as much as I could ask for. Fresh and clean as well as very tastefully decorated. The host explained everything I needed to know, including the operation of the gas geyser. After a restful sleep, for breakfast I had a choice of cereals, yoghurt, coffee and rusks. Ciska's Cosy Corner is real value for money and I would personally recommend it. It is also very close to OR Tambo Int. Airport which suited me.

  • My partner and I stayed for a 6 week period while visiting. Sindi and Shumba were perfect hosts super friendly and always fast communication. The house is perfect for a long or short stay everything you need to feel at home , area is safe, quiet with friendly Neighbours. Internet is important requirement for us when travelling, the internet here was perfect with fast upload and down load speed.   • The place was nice and cozy, it was exclusive with a private entrance which was really convenient. It was clean and welcoming and also included netflix. Elisca was very kind and efficient in her responses. She even managed to help us earlier than the actual check in time. The area is a bit far out but there was shops with restaurants near by- we even walked there at 7:30 pm with no problem. The airport is also only 15 minutes away and we left during usual peak hour traffic times and in that aspect it is very convenient. Highly recommend especially for the price!

    Enjoy the comfort of beautiful, clean and neat bedrooms, with a queen size bed in one room and two single beds in another room. A functional bathroom includes a double shower, clean towels, soap and shampoo.
    Ideally located in a 24 hour secured area for your safety. The area is very quiet and peaceful with established homes on huge stands. Only minutes away from OR Tambo international airport and walking distance to lovely restaurants, shops and banks.

  • Excellent place within a gated community if you are looking for something close to the airport. The area outside the gated community is very quiet late after dark but I felt fine driving to and from dinner around 8/10pm (cant say the same if car broke down though!). We stayed on 3 separate occasions on our trip to South Africa whilst transiting in and out of Joburg. The breakfast cereals and fruits was a nice and unexpected touch. Host was extremely accommodating with us arriving late into the evenings. Grocery store (Checkers and Spar) just 2-3mins away drive. Host is super responsive.

  • This was our second stay (very short - only a day) at Amor's guest house. As always it was a pleasure to stay at her place. She is very communicative and the place is sparkling clean always. Very close to the airport. If you are looking for a super host who is very thoughtful, communicative and helpful, look no further. This place has everything that says is the best bank for the buck.

  • Amor's place is phenomenal. The place is spot on as described in the listing. Communication is quick and she is very accommodating through our stay. She even helped with early check in ( very early in the morning due to our arrival time). Her place is very close to the airport and very close to a small strip mall if you have to eat out or buy groceries. The guest house was decorated with thoughtful touches. The house is in a very secure area and there is nothing to worry about. I will absolutely stay here again!!!!

  • Modern, comfortable and private annexe that is very clean and well-maintained. Amor really helped us with her local knowledge in terms of onward travel connections. The accommodation is located on a private, security controlled site so there were never any concerns about safety. We would highly recommend Amorie for all travellers to/around Johannesburg.

  • The guesthouse was very clean and comfortable. Amor named us some good places to visit. We enjoyed our 2 nights in that guesthouse. It is a safe area to stay especially when you have to reach the airport from there.
