Places to stay in Hillswick
Sea Winds, is a newly renovated c. 1760 two-storey listed townhouse located in the picturesque south end of Commercial Street, Lerwick. With beautiful open views over Bain's Beach, you can enjoy life by the sea with all the modern comforts of the house has to offer, including a wood burning stove. Close to the BBC series 'Shetland 'Jimmy Perez' home', Queens Hotel for a pint or meal, or minutes walk from restaurants and pubs in Lerwick, Sea Winds makes an excellent base to tour the isles.
While Sea Winds is quite secluded in the Lodberries, its only minutes away from all the pubs and eating places in Lerwick. The Lounge Bar, by Market Cross, is a 5 minute walk away is a great place for a drink and meet locals. During the summer months, there is live music. As for food, the Queens Hotel is literally next door, where you can have a 'a la carte' meal, or just a bar meal with a pint. My favourite cafe for the best coffee and soup in town, is the Peerie Shop Cafe which is 5 minutes away by the Esplanade. They also do wonderful breakfasts and lunches of smoked salmon on bagels although I always end up ordering their superb soup. If you have a car, the best restaurant is The Scalloway Hotel, an award winning restaurant in Scalloway which serves the best fish dishes in the isles. Hay's Dock Restaurant at the Shetland Museum & Archives is also another lovely place to eat with stunning views across the harbour. Further north in Brae, is one of the best fish & chip shops in the UK, Frankies. Although Lerwick's own The Fort is equally good! As for take-aways, there are two Indian, two Chinese and one Thai restaurant so all in all, you don't need to cook if you want a complete break from it all. If you enjoy fish, another tip is just to head to Blydoit Fish Shop and just stock up on their wonderful smoked fish and Orkney oatcakes and have a picnic with views of the sea (weather permitting)!
  • Beautiful, peaceful property in an outstanding location

  • Seawinds is absolutely gorgeous - a very stylish and well kitted out property in a central but quiet location with views to die for. Despite some dreadful weather during our stay it was always a warm and homely place to come back to and rest. The kitchen was very well appointed. Ruth was an extremely responsive host and it was great to be able to visit her studio as well. I'd highly recommend staying here - it is a little more expensive than some Shetland accommodation options but well worth it.

    Julian2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely loved the house, the quality of the amenities was very high and the cleanliness was exceptional. Fantastic location too and a lovely place to come back to after a days ramble or boat trip.

    Tom2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved Lerwick and The Shetlands, and Sea Winds is the perfect place to stay here. The location is great, looking over Bain’s Beach, and Ruth ensures you have everything that you need for a great stay (a special thank you for getting us tickets to The String!). On a practical note, Sea Winds is spotless and contains all the amenities that you will need, even down to the welcome basket of food that was waiting for us on our arrival. Overall, we had a great Christmas at Sea Winds and highly recommend it as a place to stay to explore the beauty of the Shetlands.

Northmavine is an outstanding place of natural beauty, with true wilderness ( the only tundra in Britain). There is the best coastal walking in Shetland here, from the well known cliffs and remote splendour of Eshaness, to the haunting beauty of Fedaland and Uyea. There are many prehistoric sites to be found both in North Mavine and the rest of Shetland and in fact one is just about a mile up the hill from the house. Northmavine also has excellent loch fishing and permits are easily obtained and inexpensive. There are also two very interesting golf courses near to Lerwick, a nine hole and an eighteen hole and one on the island of Whalsay, which is a real challenge. We have an excellent local Craft Shop, in Hillswick, Oily Muggie. There is a restaurant locally the Braewick Cafe. and in Hillswick, the historic St Magnus Bay hotel which supplies the best homemade chips north of Frankies fish and chip shop in Brae. There is also the historic Busta House Hotel locally in Brae. There is a local community shop in Hillswick for food (3 miles), and one in Ollaberry for food and fuel (6 miles). There is a breakdown garage in Ollaberry. Brae has a CO-OP and two garages, one of which does fuel also. There is a bus service to Lerwick twice in the morning, at 7.30 am and at 10 am except Wednesday and Sunday, returning at 5 pm. Wildlife Simon King , the Wildlife Photographer stayed locally in Northmavine in 2009 or some time, whilst filming his Shetland Diaries. The beach below South House known as the Blade is a good place to look out for otters, as well as being a home for Arctic Terns from May until August. The Hillswick Wildlife Sanctuary as featured can be visited locally.
It's in the village, but great access to fab walks, a good wee community shop, and petrol and the local hotel for evening meals. There is a beach right beside us.
  • Great experience. Kenji speaks good English and is friendly and helpful.

  • The Sea Barn is a lovely home from home. Great little kitchen/dining area for delicious home cooking (local store has all the essentials), comfy, cozy bedrooms and amazing views from living room. Whether you're looking to hole up and escape or get out and explore, you'll love the barn. We'd definitely consider returning.

  • For a peaceful stay in the wilds of the north, with long walks, and wide open vistas, a stay at the Seabarn is for you. The house is cosy and comfortable, with everything provided for a carefree break. A convenient shop with a fuel pump, and a local hotel with bar and dining room, ensure most creature comforts are catered for.

  • It was an awesome experience biking in the countryside of Inabe. Kenji was very knowledgeable and he provided tips, trivia and recommendations for different places in the area. Don't forget to wear sunscreen! Overall, a great experience - highly recommended!

    Ian2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • When I ran through nature on a bicycle, the sky looked more beautiful. Wind, coolness, green beauty, river sound when passing through the forest. I was healed all over my body. And it was fun that my host Kenji talked to me.

  • Lovely croft in a beautiful location. The croft has everything you might need and ideally situated to see Shetland or just enjoy a relaxing break. Fiona is a great host and made us feel so welcome. We had a great time and will definitely be back.

  • The Waddle is a really lovely and stylish home from home, with so many thoughtful touches. Fiona is a very welcoming and friendly host and was great at communicating too, making everything so easy. It wasn’t our first time there and I really hope it won’t be the last - a wonderful place to get away from it all but also a really handy base from which to explore Shetland.

    Kelly2019-11-07T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place! The Waddle is so comfortable, cozy, nicely furnished and decorated and has everything you would need. The kitchen is big and is very well equipped with modern appliances. The double bed can feel a bit small for two persons needing space and the mattress is on the softer side. However, with the great location and the views from the house, that’s a minor detail. Thanks, Fiona!

    Stephanie2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • An absolutely phenomenal cottage in a wonderful location. Spacious, warm, cosy, extremely well equipped, comfy bed, and Fiona and her family go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I shall definitely be returning.

  • The Waddle was the most wonderful place to stay. The location was stunning and peaceful. The house was immaculate, stylish and felt very homely. If you're looking for a special place to stay for your Shetland Island adventure, I highly recommend the Waddle.

  • An absolute gem of a traditional crofthouse, very stylish, tucked into a beautiful rural spot in Shetland. The hosts are so welcoming and helpful. This is a most relaxing place. Very cosy, very clean with amazing local information and books. A true Shetland experience in a very peaceful place.

"Pirrie Snabuil” overlooks Magnus Bay and the beautiful sandy beach of West Ayre, you are two minutes’ walk from the local shop, the Wildlife sanctuary, craft shop & hotel
Margaret & Jeff welcome you to their recently renovated and unique Shetland studio cottage, situated in the rural village of Hillswick in the Northmavine area of the Shetland Isles. "Pirrie Snabuil" can be your holiday haven, with artistic and organic tactile sculptures you can drift into your inner peace or take in the surrounding beauty by foot or bicycle or enjoy a quiet glass of wine in the sheltered garden.
  • With easy access to points on the north end of this island, and to both islands of Yell and Unst, this stunningly beautiful cottage, including a view I couldn't stop taking pictures of, is comfortable and clean. Margaret and Jeff are delightful hosts who left thoughtful touches throughout including fresh flowers, soft and fluffy towels, and lots of warm bedding for cool Shetland nights. I hope to stay again the next time I'm in Shetland. Be sure to check out the views behind the cottage too--there's a berm that they've built to protect from the wind and it's the perfect place to watch the sunset. Their garden is a sight to see as well. I could not have asked for a better place.

    Jeanne2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a fantastic time with wild walks and wonderful wildlife. The accommodation is very comfortable, modern and stylish with everything we needed. Jeff made us very welcome and couldn't have been more helpful. This is a perfect place to stay, we thoroughly recommend it.

    Louise2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • Pirrie Snabuil is such a special place ♥️- inside and outside so beautiful. It was the best place, we could find for these dreamlike holidays. The small cottage is perfect for two persons. It is equipped with a wonderful taste and a warm heart, a lot of creative mind in it and around the house- there is everything you could need. From the garden you see two beaches, you have got a little place to enjoy this and your coffee or wine for yourself- it is incredible ... Margaret and Jeff are wonderful hosts- cautious when needed and wonderful in contact. From this place you can start so many awesome tours, the landscape is breathtaking. Now we are at home again and we will miss this place all our life- but we are happy, that we had this wonderful time, Thank you both so much, Margaret and Jeff!!

    Sabine2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • A great private, well appointed self catering accommodation for 2. Close to the community shop which is well stocked. Highly recommended.

    Rodney2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is an absolutely wonderful place, both the built home and the warmth of the caretakers. Jeff and Margaret take extremely good care of everything: the apartment is very well kept up, with all the amenities one needs for cooking and cleaning. Jeff, who is a master woodworker, has built beautiful things out of driftwood. He is extremely responsive if there are any issues, from laundry to directions. He gives excellent recommendations about places to eat and visit. The view is nothing short of spectacular: Jeff has built a little viewing platform outside where one gazes at the sheep, the luscious grass, the cliffs and the beach. Hillswick is a charming little village, with a great general store and well situated for exploring in Shetland!

    Suzanne2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • We came back for the second time to Pirrie Snabuil, and it's always beautiful to spend time relaxing in the garden looking the bay, or walking around. Jeff & Margaret are very welcoming and it's nice to chat with them.

    Laura2019-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • Margaret and Jeff are perfect hosts. Its a beautiful house, with wonderful views. You can start hikes directly from the garden or enjoy the views from a terrace down to the beaches.

    Martina2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • Pirrie Snabuil is both a work of art and a very comfortable, suberbly located base for discovering Hillswick and its surroundings. Thanks to the local community run shop and the amenities provided in the house, we had everything we needed for a self catering holiday. We didn’t have a car so were not intending to go very far but in fact were able to do day trips to Sumburgh Head and Eshaness using the excellent bus system. We spent quite a lot of time just enjoying the house, its views and magical garden. We also did some wonderful walks around Hillswick.

  • What a fabulous place, great location and Josie is a great host. The Croft house is quite remote but Josie provides first class directions that make it almost impossible to go wrong. The location has great views and is ideal for those wanting a quiet getaway. However, Brae is less than 15 minutes away for any supplies you may need. Perfect location to explore the northern parts of Shetland, and Toft ferry terminal for access to Yell and Unst is less than 30 minutes away. Even the south, eg Sumburgh, is only a little over an hour. The house has everything you need and is well equipped, and the sofa is incredibly comfortable. An ideal place for one or two people. Josie was incredibly quick to reply to messages. One of the best places I’ve stayed at and will definitely stay again

    Rob2019-10-09T00:00:00Z
  • Josie’s cottage is a lovely, cosy space that is fitted with fantastic amenities. The surrounding fields and coast make you feel like you’re enjoying the real Shetland from the comfort of a lovely cottage. The place itself is very stylish and beautiful. We really enjoyed our stay here!

    Ria2019-10-04T00:00:00Z
  • A place to relax and enjoy the remoteness of the property. The view from the bedroom window was stunning. Especially while you are having your early morning tea in bed !!!!

    David2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Josie’s croft is cozy (super comfy sofa in front of the fireplace) and nicely decorated, with all the amenities needed. We loved the location and the views. Josie has plenty of tips on things to see and do in the area and communication with her was super. Thanks again!

    Stephanie2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • I’ve had such a lovely time in your cosy Cottage while the wind howled outside and the fire roared inside- it was Great. Then the beautiful calm after the storm and full moon across the Voe. So peaceful and tranquil. 😃 Thank You Josie, X

  • This cosy croft made for an excellent holiday!!

    Helen2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • Had such a lovely time at Josie's, it's quiet but very close to Brae for local shops, and easy to get to Lerwick or the ferries for sight seeing! The house is gorgeous too, I meant to ask where the animal cushions were from!

    Frank2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • Magical. Fairytale-like place. So quiet and peaceful, cozy and nice. Amazing sofa, so spacious and snuggling. Perfect for people who seek tranquility. Setting up the fire, drinking tea from the big-enough mug, watching sheep graze and then pass by the window on their way home, the sea... plain fantastic.

Idyllic Ness beach view over Yell Sound. A gravel track takes you to a secluded private house. Spacious en suite room and use of large private living room overlooking two beaches. Spend time otter spotting, and seals and seabirds in abundance. Guests are welcome to use my gym.
The ferry comes in to Yell in Ulsta and we are located 3 miles north. The location is perfect for a longer stay and a base from which to explore Unst, Fetlar but also North Mavine and the rest of Shetland. Lerwick is after a 15 minute ferry crossing only 40 minutes drive away. Yell boasts several amazing beaches and is also great for longer walks through an unspoiled uninhabited landscape. A hike through the Lumbisterdale (allow for 4+ hours) will make your stay memerable.
A local shop at Ulsta, the ferry terminal will provide all basics. Yell also has a well appointed little museum in Burravoe, it serves teas and cakes. The Mid Yell Diner, LJ's offers meals. In Aywick you can get lost in Yell's famous shop, locally know as "Mary's". If you can't find it there you don't need it....
  • Excellent hosts, lovely house set in a really nice area by the sea, with a very large double room. Peter is also a wealth of knowledge about the area and helped me make the most of Yell. I'll definitely be coming back.

  • If you are looking for peace and quiet with fantastic views and fantastic drives and walks then book this cottage. It has a comfy bed, lovely log burner, it’s very very clean, great bedding. It’s location is superb, there’s a local shop which has everything you need, the North Isles ferry is not far if you want to venture to Yell / Unst and Eshaness is a must ! 15 mins to Brae where you have loads of amenities - including a pub and a co op supermarket plus fish and chips ! Absolute gem !

  • Lovely, cosy real croft cottage. Brilliant log burner with peat and logs provided. And some very fresh eggs! Excellent views and a great night sleep. Highly recommend as it was to me by family who stayed three years prior. I will definitely come again!

  • We were after a getaway where we didn’t have to be time bound or be bound at all to anything. This was like our wish turned into a perfect reality. Felt like a thousand steps closer to nature and it was amazing to wake up to the ever beautiful lake. Loved the chickens and Of course Eva the 20 year old sheep!! Amazing Croft house and lovely hosts!! Btw Bruce - we had a chance to speak to your son and to your grandson Joe!! Such lovely people. We would be so lucky if our minds somehow bring us here again!! Until next time Raghav and Priyanka

  • This is a perfect place for rest and relaxation or for travel and walking, it's well equipped and very cosy, with everything you need for a wonderful holiday. The location is stunning, with the most amazing views all round. It's very easy to get around, and the house, anyway, is pithing walking distance of Brae. Carolyn is so lovely and very helpful. I don't think she could have done more for us. She is the perfect host. Cannot recommend this place highly enough.

  • I loved it here so peaceful and very kind host

    Amanda2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Carolyn's Cottage is absolutely the best spot to experience all that Shetland has to offer. Carolyn herself is a wonderful person and the cottage is perfectly appointed with all the small touches that made it immediately feel like home! We couldn't have had a better time. This cottage is perfectly positioned to get into Lerwick but also to see Brae and go on some wonderful hikes. Great spot for stargazing and birdwatching. Carolyn even gave us insiders information on Up-Helly-Aa. Had some wonderful sunrises from the cottage and cannot wait for our next trip to Shetland... rebooking at Carolyn's Cottage of course! Thank you to Carolyn for the wonderful hospitality. -Carolyn and James

  • A warm welcome in a cosy well equipped cottage with wonderful views.

  • Carolyn's place is a great place to stay. A comfortable cottage at a perfect location to explore the island. We felt at home, immediately.

    Claudia2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Simply wonderful. Nothing more to be said. The weather was wild and wet, but our welcome couldn't have been warmer. One of our bags went astray, but Carolyn sorted us out with some kit to allow us two days of walking that we could have so easily missed out on.. The cottage has everything you need: it's warm, very comfortable and stylish. We hope to return.

    Jill2019-09-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location for exploring central and northern Mainland of Shetland. Plenty of excellent walks within a short car journey. Reasonable Co-op store in Brae only a couple of miles up the road. Very quite location with views of the surrounding hills and sea. Comfortable property which is well fitted out. Friendly host/owner close by.

    Alan2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We loved staying at Carolyn's place. The house is well situated to visit the west and north of the main island, and also the ferries that go to Unst and Yell. We had already spent several days in Lerwick to be close to the south end of the island and the town itself, but the drive into Lerwick was not far at all, so we actually ended up going back to Lerwick a couple of times as well. Communication with Carolyn was excellent. She was very helpful throughout. Everything is spotlessly clean and there is just about everything you could ever need in the kitchen. All mod cons, as the British say! We loved the fact that there are about 50 sheep right beside the house and they would sometimes come to great us when we got back at the end of the day. Very charming. Can't say enough about this lovely rental. Don't hesitate.

Whether buying to cook for yourself or letting the professionals do it for you in a variety of eating-out establishments, you’re sure to find something tasty to set you up for the next exciting day of your holiday. Within two miles the newly opened Cake Fridge Tearoom offers some of the best home bakes and bites in Shetland.
  • Lovely clean and cosy cottage, with everything we needed. Friendly hosts made for a very relaxing stay, exploring the best of the Shetland islands.

  • A beautiful and spacious house in an amazing location on the beach. It’s very well located for the west coast and an easy 25 minute drive from Lerwick. The house was super snug and has obviously been recently renovated to a high standard. The kitchen was very well stocked and Mandy and Ian were really friendly. Can’t recommend this place enough!

  • Such a great place to stay!!! We are 100% convinced that booking this lovely, charming and cosy cottage was our best choice. It’s located in Aith, just 50 metres from Aith Voe and overlooking the Ayres beach, where we spent a perfect New Years Eve with mulled wine at a campfire. Stunning and perfectly placed for exploring the Mainland. The croft is beautiful, very clean and offered anything we needed to spend wonderful days! Many thanks to Ian and Mandy for being such lovely hosts! Always helpful and so kind. We will never forget our first time on the Shetlands and “Da Old Ayers”! We highly recommend this place ❤️

    Melanie2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • A wonderfully located cosy cottage, with great facilities, and genuinely friendly hosts. The otters and seals literally right on the immediate shore, were wonderful to see and experience! The tranquility of the Voe was also very relaxing. Shetland has so much to offer, even to be seen on the shortest day of the year! Many thanks Mandy&Ian😄

    Peter2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely clean, warm and comfortable croft, with everything we needed. Location is stunning and perfectly placed for exploring Mainland. Though it was October we had better weather than we expected, lots of sunshine amongst the showers and loads of rainbows! Host is friendly and welcoming. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and wish we could have stayed much longer.

    John2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely warm, cosy, characterful cottage. Good wifi. Several sightings of otters on the shoreline right in front of the cottage. Would definitely recommend.

  • Really nice place to stay, lovely views, quiet location for a bit of R & R, highly recommended.

    Wayne2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful, peaceful, charming place! Da Old Ayres is stocked with everything you need: great kitchen amenities, a powerful gas stove, warm heaters everywhere, a lovely bath. It made the perfect place to rest up after long days out walking. If you do stay near Aith, do not miss the Cake Fridge, a lovely cafe with an "honesty box" outside—take whatever baked treats you like, leave cash. Great walks all over the area. Definitely be sure to walk out by Westerwick, as recommended in Mandy's info book!

Traditional stone built croft house situated in a quiet rural area on the West Mainland of Shetland. Situated in 60 acres of crofting land with easy access to walking and fishing in nearby loch. Within 5 minutes drive of the croft house you have the choice of 2 beautiful beaches with outstanding views. There is also an excellent coastal walk which takes you around the coast of Sandness allowing you to take in the stunning views.
  • Collaster is a lovely, comfortable and private cottage. Steven was thoughtful enough to leave breakfast items for us so we didn't need to rush out the morning after arriving. We stayed in Sept/Oct, so the unheated upstairs rooms could be a little chilly at night -- bring some warm pajamas! And make sure to duck upstairs, and going to and from the kitchen. We got used to the narrow stairs fairly quickly, but a previous guest's suggestion to go down them backwards worked like a charm. The single-track roads nearest the house also took some getting used to, but we had no incidents, and had some great encounters with friendly ponies on the road. Either Steven or a guest left some pre-purchased return-trip ferry tickets at the house which was very appreciated. We used one to visit Yell and Unst. Very affordable. If your main goal is to be in and around Lerwick your whole vacation, this may not be the location for you (45 min or so into town), but if you want a quiet, comfortable countryside experience, we highly recommend it. And the internet speed was great when you want to stay in for the day.

    Julie2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely little croft house within easy reach of anywhere on mainland, and the ferries to the other islands. We hope to be back.

    Alison2019-09-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great little croft. All the amenities you need for a comfortable stay. Short walks in and around the croft provide some fantastic views. Locals really friend too. But it's also a great location to go exploring the islands. I haven't rested and slept this well in a long time.

    Toni2019-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • Steven’s house’s one of the most welcoming: it’s full of small things which makes life easier and more pleasant, such a comfy sofa with light polar blankets, several books and table games in the sitting room (really warm!), soaps in the bathroom and many useful tooling in the kitchen and not only (for instance clothes rack). On a very dull day (it happens!), I did appreciate the well working heaters, which heated the room in a while. It’s nice, warm and easy to reach. Closest services (a small shop) is at Wall’s, some 15 minutes drive, so the suggestion is to make provisions at Lerwick before arriving: note in the kitchen there is a a lot of food (tea, coffee, salt, sugar, oil and much more) and Steven welcomes the guests with fresh eggs, bacon, bread, milk and orange juice, which is great! We used the veg box at the farm nearby to provide with fresh vegetables and others sell free range eggs. The location is quiet and brilliant. Steven is helpful and replies quickly in case of need. Our first visit to Shetland islands couldn’t be better.

    Stuart2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • We, a family with two children, spent a wonderful holiday in "Collaster A Traditional Shetland Crofthouse". The Crofthouse was very comfortably furnished and provided the comfort that we needed (kitchen, bathroom, living room, hallway, bedroom) and even a little bit more. Each of our children (14 and 10 years old) had their own little kingdom under the roof (beware of the steep stairs! Our daughter slipped and was slightly injured, luckily nothing bad happened.) The area is gorgeous for those who Seeking peace, relaxation, loneliness and beauty. The few people we encountered in Sandness were all very friendly, but you do not meet many. :-) Rather sheep and now and then you are awakened by the cock. From Sandness, which is quite centrally located in Shetland, we explored the island (s) from Sumburgh to Skaw. Our holiday will remain in the most beautiful memory, maybe we'll go there again. Then the Crofthouse in Collaster would be the first address we would ask for. The host Steven our very heartfelt thanks for his hospitality, even when we arrived the fridge was well stocked and everything was in perfect order.

Traditional croft house in a great central location for exploring all of Shetlands incredible scenery
The cottage is set back from the road up a private track and situated on the outskirts of Scalloway, the ancient historical capital of Shetland. The original stone and thatch building dates back to 1650 and has been extended over the last 150 years. We have recently totally renovated the cottage to incorporate more up to date facilities without losing the charm of a traditional Shetland croft house. Inside on the ground floor you have a combined living/dining/kitchen area. All modern kitchen appliances and a fully equipped kitchen let you cook up some delicious meals made with fresh local produce should you decide to stay in. The open plan space allows you to chat while you cook about what you hope to discover tomorrow. A traditional fire surround and a working and welcoming multi fuel stove are the focal point of the room. Fill it (we provide all fuel) with traditional peat and curl up on the large comfy sofa after a day exploring. There is also a flat screen TV with freesat channels for your evening entertainment. Free WiFi provided. The modern compact shower room with WC and sink is also located on the ground floor. Essential toiletries and large fluffy towels are provided. Upstairs is the spacious inviting bedroom. It has twin aspect looking out the front up the Tingwall valley and the Lochs, out of the back skylight you can see across to Scalloway and down through East Voe. The comfortable and huge super-king bed (or two singles Zip/Link) has quality 100% cotton and anti-allergy bedding perfect for diving into after your day hiking. There is a pretty seating area outside your door that is bursting with colourful and fragrant flowers in the warmer summer months. This is ideal for enjoying a cheeky little glass of wine or for sitting out looking for the Northern Lights in the darker months. Just a 10 minute walk to Scalloway means you can leave the car behind to go to the local restaurant, café, bars, shops, Chinese take-away, swimming pool, museum and playing field. A bus service runs between Scalloway and Lerwick. Most parts of Shetland are accessible by bus from Lerwick
Scalloway a small fishing village still retains much of the character and charm of past times, with colourful fisherman's cottages looking out to some of the smaller isles and skerries. The castle which was built around 1600 is well worth a visit as is the museum where you will find a wealth of information about the Shetland bus, a wartime resistance movement taking wireless operators, armaments and combatants into Norway during WW11. Moore's slipway which was used to fix some of the boats on their return to Scalloway can still be seen today. There are two golf courses within a 5min drive and fishing is available in the Lochs that you can see from the house and many more through out Shetland.
  • Just a brilliant base. Very very cosy, totally sparkling clean! Shetland never dissapoints, whatever the weather sooooo much to see and do.

    Kay2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great Airbnb experience from start to finish. Pamela was so helpful and accommodating - from an early check-in for us fresh off the ferry to a welcoming food basket and enough wood and coal to see us through the cold evenings for our entire stay. The cottage itself was lovely and beautifully furnished. Set in a great location, just close enough to Scalloway and the local bus routes to get around but set back to give a nice rural feel. Will see definitely be back!

    Benjamin2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous cottage. Pamela was a wonderful host, who added many thoughtful touches. We hope to be back before too long and would definitely recommend staying here.

    Ben2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cosy croft accommodation. Every little thing you could possibly need had been provided, homely and comfortable. Very restful views of sheep and ponies grazing, a beautiful walk not far down to the loch. It was so delightful that some days it was difficult to tear yourself away from the comfort of the croft to go out exploring. Pamela was a lovely host and communicated well. Would highly recommend.

    Nicole2019-10-30T00:00:00Z
  • Pamela's place is delightful! My husband and I came for a week to celebrate 30 years together. The cottage was spotless, immaculately maintained, the bathroom was warm and the bed large and very comfortable. Great location just outside Scalloway and an easy drive to Lerwick. Pamela welcomed us personally and showed us how everything worked, having lit the stove and provided us with fresh flowers and a lovely hamper of essentials and treats. We had cold windy weather followed by warmer wet weather, but we managed a lot of exploring in the car as well as some very successful fishing (my husband) and a meetup with the local sea swimming group (me). We saw seals and an otter, lots of birdlife and endless fantastic scenery. Plenty of nice places to eat and very friendly helpful locals. My only complaint - a week isn't long enough! Can't wait to come back.

    Janna2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a wonderful time at the cottage. It was absolutely beautiful and contained everything we could possibly need for an extremely comfortable stay. We especially loved the thoughtful welcome hamper and the peat fire. This is one of the best places we have ever stayed at and we can't wait to come back soon.

  • A gem of a place, cosy and comfortable. All you need in a self catering accommodation with added features of a welcome hamper from the host, milk and eggs, cake and biscuits. It was a cold day and Pamela had lit the fire so a very warm welcome. Great contact prior to the stay and during as needed. Highly recommended and will definitely go back next time we visit Shetland. Camp in comfort. Shop short drive away. Bus 3 minutes walk. Single gas hob, small sink (no running water), narrow fold down beds (not ideal for anyone over 5ft 10), small toilet cubicle. Water supplied. Shower/toilet, wifi accessed in house also to charge up devices. Use of kitchen with prior arrangement. Devices can be charged up in the caravan. Pleasant rural surroundings. Good for couples and solo adventurers to camp in comfort. Own transport recommended. Please note: Caravan not heated.
The caravan was built in the early 1950s and we have tried to keep the interior as close to the original as possible with the addition of solar powered lights. There is no heating but during the summer the sun warms the caravan. There is no running water but water will be provided. The caravan is next to a busy stream (burn). I have 4 cats (they don't go in the caravan) and 3 chickens which are free range. Please note the beds are small and narrow.
Quiet rural area with great views.
  • This is a seriously quirky and individual site, in a vintage wooden caravan, snuck away in a small woodland. But it is accurately described. Highly suited to backpackers, solo travellers and those wanting simple facilities.

    Graham2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • If you want something quirky, this just the thing - a comfortable period caravan beside the burn. Easy access to West Mainland.

    Martin2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • My partner stayed for two nights in Debra's caravan. It's quite cozy, bit it was such a fun and unique experience. The beds are converted chairs, and though they are quite comfortable, they're a bit narrow and short (my partner is 6'1" (1.86m) and he couldn't fully extend his legs. There's no heating in the caravan & it did get a bit drafty in the evening (mid-September), but the extra blankets really helped. All in all, a very lovely stay.

    Tracey2018-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • Positively adorable caravan, full of nooks and crannies to make use of space. Easy to find from the bus stop, and a perfect option to camping. Plus, friendly chickens and cuddly kitties!

  • The croft is in a stunningly beautiful location, with walks by the sea within easy reach, and the shop a short drive down the road. Remote enough to enjoy the solitude but only 25 minutes from Lerwick. I was there in November when temperatures at night fell close to zero, but with the wood-burning stove it was cosy and warm. Everything very clean and well-equipped, and although I didn't meet Helen, there really was no need as she responded instantly to messaging via the AirBnb app. Strongly recommended to anyone who's looking for the authentic croft experience.

    Cath2019-09-25T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Soeblink. First of all, the location is superb! It's almost in the middle of the mainland, which means you can easily travel north, south, east and west and Tingwall airport is around 20m drive, giving you access to Fair and Foula Islands. Soeblink is located in a very beautiful area, we enjoyed stunning sunsets while we were there and had lovely local walks. The house itself is really cute, so cosy, the kind of place you want to go back to after a long day out exploring and trekking. You will find everything you need in it. Hilary and Lyndon are both very approachable and respond very quickly to any queries. Highly recommended!

  • We loved our stay at Andy's place. The location is great, in terms of proximity to the ferry terminal and local facilities, and the flexible self check-in/check-out was perfect for our travel plans! The house is a real gem and has everything you could need and more. Lots of lovely guides and books on the area if you're in need of inspiration! Highly recommended!

    Nicola2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Andy’s place! Perfect location for us and the house had everything we needed. Also very handy having off street parking. Great to have flexibility with check-in and check-out times to suit the ferry arrival and departure times. Andy was easily contactable throughout our stay and replied promptly to any messages. He also got in touch to help when it looked like our ferry would be cancelled. We would definitely stay again!

    Rachel2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing accommodation & the hosts could not have done enough - great communication!!

    Jolene2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Andy and Sharon have a great place which is really convenient for getting out and sightseeing while only being a 2 minute drive from the centre of lerwick (and right by Tesco). Nicely furnished, really well kitted out with all the amenities (including a chromecast) and a fine range of books! The place is really nicely renovated and Andy and Sharon were great communicators, reaching out to see if they could help when the ferry was cancelled. Will definitely be back when I return to Shetland!

    Alexander2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean and cute place to stay in. We had everything that we could have wished for during our stay. Check-in and out was flexible, just like the communication was extremely easy 👍🏼. The location of the house was a bit of a walk to the centre of Lerwick (15-20 min) but nature, beaches and cliffs were really close by, just like the Tesco (groceries). Thanks a lot!

    Karolina2019-12-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great stay in Andy’s place. From what I could see it was a new listing, and I like to give them a chance. Couldn’t have went wrong. Very homely feel to the house, and it had everything I needed. Tesco 5 mins walk away, bus stop 30 yards from the door, couldn’t ask for much more.

    Pauline2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • This has been a great Airbnb experience. The accommodation is to an extremely high standard throughout and has a nice homely feel to it. Great location, excellent value and faultless hosting. I will take this opportunity to thank Sharon and Andy for their superb service and I look forward to staying here again in the future.

Scarpoe's Kitchen is an ancient "Kytja" house in the beautiful island of Yell, in Shetland. It has been completely restored and is offered as a high quality and unique place to stay. The former crofthouse is the perfect spot to get away from it all. It is easy to lose yourself in “da Herra,” a magical place where ancient legends of giants and trolls abound. The air is clean and summer days are long. A feeling of age, peace and endurance is ever present in this beautiful valley.
The secluded location belies the fact that the Herra is probably the most convenient location for visitors to the island of Yell, being situated in the middle of the isle. It is a short distance from the main village - leisure centre, swimming pool, shop are approximately 8 minutes drive away. There is a veritable host of things to do right on your doorstep, however, and you can fill your days without ever stepping in your car, should you wish to. Sleeping 2, the accommodation, heated by an air-source heat pump is equipped to a very high standard and comprises: Modern fitted kitchen with induction hob, electric oven, fridge, microwave etc. Mezzanine gallery bedroom. Open plan living room-kitchen with half-vaulted ceiling - with the natural light pouring in through fixed lightbox style skylights you can feel a real sense of space. The sofa doubles up as a comfortable bed with memory foam mattress, for those who do not wish to sleep aloft. Smart, satellite TV and CD-stereo player and books mean you have something to do if you cannot venture out. Large shower room with underfloor heating. There is a large garden area to the front – outside seating to follow. Parking, with room for several vehicles, is to the side and behind the house. We are delighted to report we now supply wi-fi. There is a strong 4G signal in da Herra so it is also possible to tether your smartphone for connectivity.
The area is so full of things to do, you need hardly ever step in your car! Right outside the door you can go fishing, walking, birdwatching, otter and even whale/dolphin watching on occasion. If you want to work out or swim, there is a leisure centre a few miles away in Mid Yell. The ferries are about equidistant to the north (for Unst and Fetlar) and south (the mainland).
  • Great service, great stay!

    Stephen2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • It is amazing beautiful place and cosy cottage. The view from the garden is lovely and fantastic. The cottage is very charming and comfortable to stay.

    Katsuaki2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Surprising, super stylish and modern space in an ancient stone building! Wonderful location for those who love remoteness and wild and rugged scenery. I was in Yell for work, but found my time in Scarpoe's Kitchen very peaceful, restful and restorative.

    Mark2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a beautiful cottage in a stunning remote location. We loved being able to hear and see the sea from outside the front door and it was the perfect location for star gazing. The cottage has been so thoughtfully and tastefully converted and is very comfortable. This is the perfect spot to relax and explore the northern Isles.

    Nicola2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Scarpoes Kitchen was a perfect base for us for 4 days of exploration of Yell and Unst. It’s a warm, cozy refuge in a beautiful location, complete with all the comforts, including comfy loft bed and a well-appointed kitchen.

  • We had the best 3 days of our holidays here. Inga has presented the cottage to a stylish excellent standard with lots of thoughtful touches. We experienced a huge gale while staying and were warm and safe. A perfect place for walks to experience the beauty and wildness of the area.

    Jill2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic spot, great stone cottage with modern amenities...incredible walks to Eigg Cliff....spotted otters in the voe...friendly and accommodating folk who drove us where we needed to go. We were told by Inga that to visit Yell without a car would require commitment as it is an isolated place...it was well worth the commitment and much easier to get around than one would imagine....

  • Really nice flat and support from Raewyn!

    Francesco2019-11-23T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for a week in November. The location is perfect, right in the centre of Lerwick and easy to walk anywhere in town. The apartment itself is spotlessly clean and comfortable with everything you could need available. Some lovely touches like a bag of chocolates, a jar of oat cakes and plenty of teas/ coffees. Check in was easy and Raewyn popped over to check i was getting on ok. Basically couldn't have been any better - highly recommended!

    Karim2019-11-16T00:00:00Z
  • Raewyn and Leslie's place was lovely and clean and comfortable, with everything you need. The location was great - right in the centre of Lerwick and gives you the freedom to come and go as you please. Would certainly look to stay again in the future.

    Mark2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • Raewyn’s place is perfectly located for enjoying and exploring Lerwick. She and her husband Leslie were very helpful and accommodating, and especially supportive as we made our transition from the ferry to her flat that we had booked. We enjoyed the many comforts provided in the flat. It is clean, conveniently arranged and includes an easy-to-use kitchen, and a nice bathroom and a great shower. The storage in the bedroom is especially welcome. The tourist information center is a short walk as is the little grocery for buying your self-catering needs. In this flat, you are a few blocks from as much shopping as you will want to do, and there are several high-quality restaurants as well. The Mareel cultural center and the museum are walkable, just a little farther on. This is a great AirBnb choice.

    Antonia2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic base for a stay in Lerwick. A spotless, stylish space which is secluded yet within a minute’s walk of the town centre’s bars, shops and restaurants. Raewyn and Leslie are the best kind of hosts - they live nearby, but are discreet, and have terrific local knowledge which they are happy to share. Highly recommended.

    Lynne2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • This a wonderful stay - and so convenient to downtown Lerwick. It is very comfortably and stylishly furnished and had everything we needed for preparing meals. We really appreciated the snacks, great suggestions for exploring, and welcoming space to relax after a day in stormy weather. We highly recommend!

Otherwise we will leave you to enjoy in peace. The village of Voe is lucky to have an excellent local shop/ petrol filling station and a pub. • Very nice place to stay, even if it's not in Lerwick. It's easy to find and Martin is really nice. Everything is made to make your trip easy. The bed is very confortable and everything is super clean. And it's calm. 😁

    Martine2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • Another fabulous stay and Martin the perfect host, and very approachable. The Chalet is in a lovely location and is ideal for the visitor being part of Shetland life. Just loved our visit.

    Susan2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Its very central mainland which is a good spot to be for visiting each area of Shetland mainland. The Chalet was very clean, welcoming and we wanted for nothing.

    Brenda2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, well-maintained, beautifully kitted out. In a pleasant, quiet location on the edge of Voe, just a few yards in from the A970 ... next stop, Brae. Martin's a thoughtful and helpful host. Would be happy to stay there again. For a day ... or a week.

    Adam2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Chalet is a perfect base for exploring Shetland, very central for striking out in all directions. It is comfortable and cosy, well equipped, and we recommend it unreservedly! Martin and Alison are very friendly, couldn't ask for better hosts.

    Hilary2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We picked Shetland as a destination for vacation just by chance and it was a wonderful expieriance. Even three weeks at Voe were not long enough to encounter all the beauties. It was a surprise to discover brochs and other excavations nearly at every walk we did. A tip: don't go to Shetland islands if you need disturbance, city noise, hustle and bustle. Martin ist a warmhearted host. The chalet, once the surgery of a GP fitted perfectly into our needs. If you search for the bakery, which is famous for delievering the best bread for the Royal Navy, take your time: its situated about 20m before the local pub. There is a lamp burning above the entry but no other sign.

    Gabi2019-07-05T00:00:00Z

    Kaimes2019-06-14T00:00:00Z

  • What a great place! We had everything we needed and more. Newly built and fitted, the property provided a perfect base for exploring all areas of Shetland. The big windows gave fabulous views over the sea and a perfect spot to watch the weather come and go. It’s very peaceful, with sheep grazing in the field next door and the odd rabbit hopping by. Although we never met Karen, she was in touch to check all was fine and it was clear she was there to help if needed. We would highly recommend a stay.

Bright, modern and airy flat, right in the heart of Lerwick. Recently redecorated and refurbished, this flat is equipped with all you need for a comfortable stay. Big bay windows look out over the town's historic Hillhead - the perfect location for viewing the world-famous Up Helly Aa fire festival, as the spectacular torchlight evening procession starts from right outside, making this the ideal view point.

  • The cosy cottage is exactly that, a very cosy space but one in which all the rooms are more than big enough to feel relaxed and comfortable. All needs are catered for from a lovely welcome pack to a fully equipped kitchen and satellite TV. The bedroom is spacious and there is even a hairdryer for anyone who forgets their own. We had a very warm welcome and there was lots of information about Lerwick and Shetland more generally to hand. Location wise, the cottage is perfect - close to the high street and lots of excellent cafes and restaurants. We would definitely go back.

    Christine2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • The flat is a terrific place to stay in Lerwick. It is attractive, very comfortable and has an excellent location both for walking to various parts of the town, and for easy parking. There was a truly excellent starter kit of supplies waiting for me, and the kitchen is designed well and very functional. The neighbours are quiet, as is the general area around the flat. I'd be delighted to stay there again on future trips to Shetland.

Located at the very heart of Shetland, with spectactular views & abundant nature, Orwick Lodge is a great base for exploring the Shetland Islands. Minutes from quiet rural beaches, the famous Hams o Roe, trying to spot an otter passing the window or waking up to Shalders on the patio, in 2018 Shetland had 2 pods of Orcas circumnavigating the islands. At evening you can enjoy the award winning Frankies fish & chips, enjoy complimentary mussels from our farm, or seek out Shetland music.
Located within central Shetland, rural yet convenient, great views and nature. The property is modern, 4 star for facilites, 5 star for cleanlines. Air source heat pump provides eco-sustainable underfloor heating.
Muckle Roe is quiet, with great views and amazing to explore.

  • St Ninian's is on the second floor of a house. It was spotlessly clean and had all the equipment we needed and more. The bed was comfortable and the shower in the bathroom was good with lots of hot water. All of the furniture was modern and the whole flat stylishly decorated. The bonus we hadn't realised was that these are serviced apartments so if you want the apartment cleaned or tidied a bit just put out a door sign and it happens! Lovely to come back to after a day out. The only downside we found that we were a bit short of storage space for our clothes. (We were staying for a week though and so had two suitcases full.) It wasn't far to the Lerwick town centre - maybe 10 minutes at the most and we found Lerwick a great base for exploring Shetland - going to Unst for the day, for example, was very do-able. We loved Shetland and our little apartment was a great place to chill after a day out.

  • This beautiful cosy apartment has everything the traveller could want. It is clean, modern, cosy and practical. We, and our dog, were made so welcome - it really added to our holiday. The perfect location for discovering Shetland.

  • We fell in love with the Shetland islands and I must say that Melissa and Paul’s welcome helped a lot to feel at home. The apartment is independent, large (much bigger than we expected) tastefully decorated and with all nécessaire equipment. What we appreciated the most was the special thoughts of our hosts for our 18-months old boy: everything was ready to welcome him in the best conditions, with baby equipment but also toys and books at his disposal. An amazing place we highly recommend!

    Nelly2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to stay, every bit as good as described. Friendly hosts and lovely location, would visit again.

    Catherine2019-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • Melissa's apartment is beautifully decorated, warm and cosy, with Freeview TV and lots of books to read, set in a really beautiful landscape and is about 6 or 7 miles from Lerwick near to amenities, we found her recommendations for trips really helpful and really loved Shetland.

  • A true home away from home. 5* all the way

    Graeme2019-05-16T00:00:00Z
  • Superb location and lovely cozy cottage feel.

    Andrew2019-05-06T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Beautiful apartment at a VERY reasonable price, very well kept, stylish and comfortable and a very short distance from town, although still extremely quiet and peaceful. We were left to our own devices, which we love, but was so easy to just ring the bell or send a message and Melissa got straight back to us! So accommodating to the fact that our travel arrangements got us in extremely early and left quite late. Cannot thank them enough for a wonderful stay! Go for the clear night sky alone :) Amanda & Kevin xx

East Biggins is perfectly situated on the island of Papa Stour with panoramic views of Shetlands rugged west coastline, The Island of Foula can also be seen in the distance. Although isolated, This cottage is cosy and the perfect place to explore this beautiful Island, full of nature at its best with thirty miles of beaches, caves, cliffs, seals, birds and otters and if you are really lucky you may see the Orca pass by in the sound of Papa from the cottage.
This cottage is unique with its panoramic views of shetlands North West coastline
The cottage is isolated and not close to anything apart from sheep, birds ect which is part of it’s beauty
  • Great place to stay, Sarah was always very quick to respond with info and help when required.

    Gregor2019-11-08T00:00:00Z
  • East Biggins in Papa Stour is a great place to stay if you wish to experience living on a remote island.

    Katinka2019-09-07T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy cottage on a fabulous island, a great place for a few days of wildlife and spectacular coast. We have every intention of going back!

    Isabel2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • It truly is a magical Island! I loved my stay:) the house is on a little hill and has a beautiful view to offer, it‘s super comfy and cozy and is equiped with everything you need. Wish i didn‘t have to leave!

    Elisabeth2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • This Croft is a wonderful, unique experience. We walked the entire circumference of the island from it in a day and it was gorgeous. The place is rustic and make sure and bring your own food and book your ferry trip far in advance as possible. You can get 3G reception sometimes in the kitchen.

    Janelle2019-06-14T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic old croft house on an idyllic island. Everything you need for a perfect get away from it all experience. Highly recommended.

    Alan2019-06-10T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful place! The house, the island and the wildlife were all exactly what we were looking for... can't wait to go back...

    Michal And Boaz2019-06-05T00:00:00Z
  • Papa Stour is an extraordinary place, and the croft is a wonderful way to experience it. It took us two full, vigorous days to hike the whole coast of the island and get to take in this very special place. The croft itself was cozy and easy to get along in--the kitchen is well-stocked and everything works well, and the bedrooms are spacious and inviting, especially with the skylights to watch moon and stars by. It's not a fancy luxury space, but it's not meant to be. On the land it's a quick morning stroll to a bit of coastline off the main yard that treated us to otters and seals, and the whole of the island is a spectacular playground for outdoorsy types. Great experience, and great value. Thanks to Sarah and her cousins for making our trip so special!

As featured in Shetnews 2019. Tiny home has captured the imagination of folk far and wide. Thoughtfully built to simplify life using eco friendly materials and a sensitivity to the Shetland landscape. It still has everything you need for a comfortable stay in beautiful surroundings. A fifteen minute drive from Lerwick - this unique space is the perfect retreat for both holidays or business trips. The views from tiny home are simply breathtaking.
Staying in tiny home will be a trip to remember. The space invites the outdoors in and helps reconnect us with nature. Everyone who steps into tiny says they are amazed at how spacious it feels. It is also oriented away from the main house and overlooking its own garden which allows a lot of privacy - a sense of being in a world of your own. Whether it’s lighting a fire outdoors or enjoying the wooden ofuro soaking tub - tiny home can hardly fail to give a magical experience
Situated in a quiet valley with lovely neighbours. You will witness the crofting calendar from Tiny Home’s windows and catch sight of sea trout jumping in the burn. All of this - a stones throw from Lerwick
  • The tiny home was an island sanctuary away from busy life (and from Storm Dennis, who rudely decided to visit Shetland the same time we were there)! Karen was a welcoming and friendly host who showed us how to use everything we would need (the wood burning stove was a treat!), and we very much appreciated the late check-out before our evening ferry. I would definitely stay here again. :)

    Rachel2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place is AMAZING!!! The view is INCREDIBLE! I literally can't say enough about how peaceful, eco-friendly, quiet, thoughtful touches and attention to detail. I absolutely LOVED it here and didn't want to leave. Karen was highly responsive (even when my phone died at the airport) and super friendly. The location was PERFECT because you're still only 10 min from downtown Lerwick, but had an amazing view and space. The personal touches of the lodge were beautiful, and highly functional. I personally do not like sterility of hotels, so this place was perfect and personalized. Wifi was incredibly fast so I had no problem streaming Netflix and emailing for work all at the same time--of course while looking out the huge window. I will DEFINITELY book again when I'm visiting Shetland. Please keep in touch Karen!!

    Jennifer2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely super little place! So cosy when we got the fire going and made for a perfect little night. The bath is super! Absolutely will be back through the summer!

    Dione2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in Tiny Home so much! It's such a special place to spend your holiday. Ideal location for visiting different places all around Shetland as it's so central. Very close to Lerwick also -a 15ish minute drive, so very convenient for us as we got the ferry. The house itself is like a deluxe cabin with breathtaking views. It has everything you need and we loved making our own fires - it's definitely warm enough. We ended up staying an extra night as our ferry was delayed due to gale force winds, and it was still extremely cosy in tiny home. The place is so cleverly designed and all the extra touches are well thought out. It was actually more spacious than we expected. Our host was really helpful and gave us lots of suggestions for things to do. We'd definitely stay here again if we came back to Shetland. :)

    Annie2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • This tiny home is the best I have stayed in. Cosy, peaceful, all you need to enjoy a time out from the world.

    Zoe2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot recommend both Karen's beautiful tiny home or her fantastic company more. I was made to feel welcome immediately and she went above and beyond to make sure my experience was special and I won't forget it. As it was November the cold was quite concerning, however, Karen made sure the fire was good to go for the night and also provided a cosy sleeping bag which meant I was very comfortable and toasty warm for my entire stay. Looking forward to coming back already :) x

    Blue2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • Driving down in to the valley you could see the accommodation just to the left of the large white house, perfect location. Karen's communication throughout the booking and during my stay was fantastic. The accommodation has everything you need for a get away retreat. Once you have mastered the simple to use shower its all plain sailing. There is something quite comforting watching and listening to the rain and wind as it blows through the valley. WiFi is super quick and the small kitchen area has all you need. There are even some condiments and essentials that you may need. I would definitely book again. Thanks for the perfect stay Karen.

    Gary2019-10-24T00:00:00Z
  • What can I say? I want to go back and I wish I could stay for longer. I loved the location, the view and the tiny house is really thoughtfully built. Karen was very kind and gave me very useful local tips.

Lerwick is a 30 minute drive away for all other amenities.
  • The cottage has amazing views and a modern yet warm decor inside. It was very clean and warm (which was perfect as it was windy and cold some days). Robert is an excellent host, very helpful and contactable.

  • Isolated cozy cottage with outstanding views from the picture windows with three beaches within a few minutes walk. Well modernised and light with the authentic feel of the range stove and cottage kitchen. Perfect for a romantic break but exceptionally family friendly if you have toddlers. A car or bike is essential.

  • Chapelside is the perfect home away from home. I had a very relaxing and comfortable few days there which could not have been better. I really appreciated the great communication in the run up to my stay. The views from the house are absolutely stunning - it was wonderful watching the weather move and change across the south end of the island. The house is well kitted-out and done up very comfortably. It’s well placed for some good local walks and there’s a great honesty box just up the road which often has fresh home bakes and eggs for you to buy. I particularly appreciated the toasty-warm Rayburn that made the house an absolute pleasure to come back to after a walk out in the frosty weather! I had a wonderful stay and I’m looking forward to going back! Thank you!

    Ellen2019-11-14T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful peaceful cottage with huge picture windows. Very warm and cosy. Great location.

    Jane2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • This is the sort of place that makes me love AirBnB, somewhere to stay that gets to the heart of the location, where you are made super welcome, and the house has the things you expect. Sand is a beautiful place to stay, breakfast everyday was a delight to look out over the bay. The house was toasty warm due to the Rayburn range, which we appreciated when coming in from wild and windy walks, and we baked sourdough bread and scones on the range. The house had all the things we expected, like a well equipped kitchen, and Robert had left us some nice local foods. It was a perfect Shetland week. Hope we can come again.

    Mike2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • A great house with fabulous views. Cosy, comfortable and very well equipped. Perfect hosts with the warmest of welcomes. We had the best week in Shetland and Robert and Jessica's house at Sand was the icing on the cake.

  • We loved our stay at Peerie Bugarth in Yell., Shetland. The cottage is fully modernised to a high standard and was a great space for our party of 6. The cottage is clean, cosy and warm, the kitchen has every gadget you can imagine, the lounge area is comfy with wi-fi, and freesat which came in very handy. The bedrooms are spacious and airy, so too is the bathroom which had a great shower! Debbie and Steven are great at keeping in touch with you and they've taken the time to add little touches to the cottage to give it a homely feel. The next time we visit Yell, we will definately come back to this place.

The bread and butter were very much appreciated for breakfast after the long ferry crossing. She was very reactive when we accidentally locked ourselves out. And thanks again for the cot and the baby chair. Lovely base to explore Lerwick and Shetland.

  • I ve spent three lovely Days in Doreen’s house and i felt me home

    Davide2019-08-22T00:00:00Z
  • Home and hospitality, Doreen is listening to its travelers, the room and facilities are very comfortable and therefore allow a much appreciated comfort after walks in the changing weather conditions Shetlands.

    Laurent2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • When you first arrive, you notice the beautiful gardens on either side of Doreen ’s house. Every inch of her cozy home has been very tastefully decorated with art and beautiful dishes and furniture. I felt completely at ease in Doreen’s home. Very comfortable bed, linen, quilt and pillows. There’s was a TV in the bedroom: a very nice touch. The reading light was perfectly placed. It was under 15 minutes walk to Lerwick’s waterfront downtown. It’s a small house but large bedroom. Everything well maintained and is kept extremely clean. Doreen is a genuinely kind and giving person who went far beyond what is usually expected in an Air B&B host. I felt relaxed, comfortable and at ease exactly how you want to feel when you’re on holiday.

  • We really loved staying here The location was great- walking distance to Lerwick's Main Street and the Mareel Centre, the Bressay ferry, etc. Spotlessly clean and well appointed and comfortable. It's a real house with two stories. One of the best airbnbs we have ever stayed at, which is saying something. We never met Jennifer, as entry was by lock box, but she was quick to respond to phone and email inquiries. Highly recommended. You can't go wrong with this place.
