Coastal cool for two. Our little one bedroom beach house is 100 steps to the water. Its sunny north wall ( that's right..wall ) slides open to bring the outside in. There are decks, a sea view and the sound of the waves. Village a ten minute stroll.
We have always loved little beach houses, so we decided to build one. Of course, it is obligatory for a beach house to have a beach.....ours is opposite. You will find comfortable accommodation for one or two people in our new, open plan, little house. We like that the architect included a sliding wall that can open the living area to the outside deck on sunny days. We also like that we can batten down the hatches in winter and turn on the log fire. The bedroom has its own little deck too, just because..... There is plenty of cooking equipment. Yes, wine glasses, coffee and teas included. All linen is provided.
Apollo Bay sits at the foot of the Otway Ranges, by the Southern Ocean. It is a sea change kind of place with real live locals. Find them fishing, playing golf or footy, walking in the national parks, surfing, swimming, and at the Saturday market.
  • This place was one of the best AirBNBs we’ve stayed at. We felt right at home the second we arrived. Amazing location, amazing kitchen, super cosy couch after a day of hiking or beaching. My wife and I enjoyed playing a few card games by the fire, enjoyed a bottle of wine or two, and loved the cozy couch and sounds of the waves crashing along the shore as we sleep. I would highly recommend this place.

  • Cute modern beach pad close to beach and shops/restaurants. Very stylish and comfortable loved the big door to deck and gas fire.

  • Rex's place is just metres from the beach and sparkling clean, it has everything you need for Two people. It is walking distance to the beach and shops and Apollo Bay is positioned beautifully for exploring the local area and the Great Ocean Road. Thanks again for having us Rex.

  • This is a wonderfully designed, modern and thoughtful home from which to explore Apollo Bay and the Ocean Road. The bedroom is very comfortable and restful. We enjoyed it very much.

  • We’ve stayed here before and love it! The space is so stylish and well appointed and exactly what we need. The location is great too. It’s close to the beach and the beautiful farmland behind Apollo Bay and only a short drive to see the koalas. And nothing beats falling asleep to the sound of the waves! We’ll definitely be back again.

  • Just “outstanding” We could spend the whole summer here. The Little Beach House is just “outstanding” nice. We have never lived more beautifully in Victoria. A big compliment to Rex (and a little to his architects). Modern living is perfectly implemented here. The house is light, airy, and extremely well thought out. Nothing is missing. The location is just great too. A few steps to the beach and a short walk to all restaurants or the supermarket. The car can stop here. We were also surprised by Apollo Bay and the varied surroundings. There is a lot to experience and discover in the immediate vicinity. Of course, we also tried out all the tips from the host. The restaurants are great, the shopping is great. Fresh fish is available at fair prices in the cooperative. Nothing is missing in the kitchen to prepare it perfectly. There is even a whetstone to sharpen the knives. Thank you for letting us live here. We would love to come back.

  • Excellent place, more than big enough for 2 people. Close enough to walk to Apollo Bay shops but not so close as to be busy. Great amenities provided.

  • David was a lovely host, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back one day. Everything was spotless clean and well looked after, amazing location.

    Ronja2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • David was a great host during our two day stay just outside Apollo Bay. This homestay is located amongst estate size dwellings. The apartment backs into a huge backyard. Since David lives in the adjoining larger home, he is available to assist with anything that may come up. He was very warm and helpful, a true Superhost. It's on the second floor, so there is a staircase to climb, but the views are great.

  • We had a great stay it this cozy little beach hut. Just a couple of minutes walk to the beach. You can year the crashing of the waves from the beach hut to give a great vibe. It opens into a charming little garden with heaps of native birds in the garden. Kitchen and bathroom were awesome. Had a lovely relaxing stay.

  • For a stop in Apollo Bay, this is a wonderful place to stay. Very comfortable and spacious for a studio. The bathroom has radiant heat which is a lovely touch. • The beach hut provides a high standard of comfort in a central location. Safe parking is provided and full facilities are available for cooking. Very well presented. I would definitely stay here again. Lisa is very good to communicate with, clear and informative.

  • This was a lovely little studio flat to stay in for a few days. Wonderful location and very helpful hosts. The bed was very hard, and it was a bit disappointing we couldn’t get the chrome cast to work since it was rainy throughout our whole trip so tv would have been nice! Otherwise, it was great - I especially loved the heated floors in the bathroom!

Take a step back in time, to bygone era, where life was simpler, where people spent time with dignified entertainment and life seemed to have more space and time. Welcome back to the great age of Steam. The train was used as a workshop, when the original owner was building the house next door (also a Dufflebird property, Otway's Loft). In 2015 we renovated the derelict carriage to the vaguely steam-punk style holiday accommodation. It is available year round and can sleep up to 6 guests.
When we started renovating, the carriage did not have enough intact to restore it, so we have developed our own style that is vaguely steam-punk influenced. It took nine months to renovate the train from a pretty ragged start. Almost every surface had to have something done to it, and we found that carriages were really tightly put together (all that rattling) and hard to pull apart. When we did get panels off, we had no idea what we would find. We completely stripped and rewired the electrical, and did plumbing from scratch. Renovating anything over 100 years will have its challenges, but this was exceptional. It was opened for guests in July 2015. It is still a work in progress, there is a lot more to do before it reaches our vision, but we have been astounded by it's popularity. Special features include : - Can sleep 6 but 2 or 4 would be more comfortable. See Sleeping Options below. - 3 Bedrooms. Two in a single compartment with a double compartment master bed room. Two Queen beds, two thin train singles. - Full linen service with beds made up for you on arrival. - Bathroom with shower - Open plan kitchen/living room - Wood fire box heater with wood supply included - Full small kitchen with stove, oven, sink, fridge and cupboards - WiFi - Italian Stove top coffee maker and French Press (plunger) - Basic provisions like olive oil, spices, tea, coffee, Vegemite and Glad Wrap With great regret we no longer offer the four free bikes. The expectation of having bikes in good working order was a service we could not reliably offer without living nearby and maintaining them between guests. Bring your own mountain bikes or you can hire bikes at Forrest Hire Bikes, two minutes walk away. - Pets and children welcome. The yard is fenced but a clever dog could easily escape. NO TV. There is a stereo, books and board games. There is not a washing machine, nor dryer. Steam, certainly wont be for everyone, but we have had great feedback from the young and the young at heart. There seems to be a great fondness for the "Great Age of Steam", when locomotives were king! In the late 1800's trains were the greatest technological achievement of humans, they opened new horizons, and were a symbol of power and progress. We hope we have tapped in to this, and we're excited to be able to share it with guests. If you have instagram, you can follow both our guests and our personal stays at @dufflebird_getaways
Forrest is a gorgeous small town of weatherboard shacks, surrounded by towering Mountain Ash rain forest with lush ferny under-story. The dawn birdsong is deafening. There is a lot to do around Forrest even if you are not a mountain biker. Ten Things To Do •Walk around Lake Elizabeth or take the platypus tour. •Go mountain biking on Victoria’s best trail network. With great regret we no longer offer the four free bikes. The expectation of having bikes in good working order was a service we could not reliably offer without living nearby and maintaining them between guests. Bring your own mountain bikes or you can hire bikes at Forrest Hire Bikes, two minutes walk away. •Visit Otways Fly and zip line (Longest and highest rainforest sky walk in the world ) •Bushwalk to waterfalls and Redwood Forest. (Hopetoun Falls, Triplet Falls, Beauchamp Falls, Stevenson Falls). •Forrest Historic Walk •Visit local Wineries and Berry Farms •Forrest Brewery for lunch •Forrest Guesthouse for weekend degustation lunch or dinner. •Brae Restaurant •Spoil yourself and make it a long weekend. Take the Great Ocean Road home on Monday when there is no one around.
  • A really unique and 'cool' place to stay in the lovely township of Forrest. The carriage has a lovely feel to it, lots of original features but all the mod cons you need as well. The very comfy beds with high quality bedding and the silence of the country gave us a wonderful nights sleep. We took our dog with us and he had ball. The plot isn't securely fenced yet but I believe the owners are planning do that soon. Would definitely stay there again.

    Hilary2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Steam was even better than it looked it the photos, and it was obvious a lot of thought has been put into the details of every part of the carriage. Fleur also provided a lot of local tips. Highly recommended!

    Alice2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing. The mosquito is a little bit more. Always pay attention to close the door all the time. Except for that, everything is fantastic.

    Shanqi2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • The best, most thoughtful host I’ve ever had. From local tips to the little touches on the property, you can tell that Fleur really cares about the place and everyone that stays here. It was the perfect weekend.

    David2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Steam Carriage exceeded all of our expectations for the better, and it truly was the most fun we have ever had at an AirBnB. The original 1920s steam carriage character has been preserved beautifully, while having fully functioning modern day luxuries i.e. waterfall rain shower head, heating, a full sized gas oven & stovetop. Our favourite addition to the carriage was the firebox. Forest itself is a perfectly quant town of just 230, perfect if you wanted to get away from it all or use it as a base for the Otways & Great Ocean Road. Highly recommend Fleur for her communication, and for such a unique stay!

    Aaron2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • This train carriage is full of charm. From eating breakfast outside to the nighttime games by the fire place. Not to mention such a great location. Recommended.

A family of Koalas live in the trees of the national park, right next to the house. We also regularly see kangaroos, wallabies, possums, echidnas and many native birds. There are hiking trails just behind the cabin. From every window in the cabin you can look out into the eucalypt forest, or out across the rolling green hills. The sunny north-facing deck provides stunning views over the Aire valley. Here on the edge of the wilderness, the air is so alive and fresh, that simply breathing feels like an act of self-care. You will feel a sense of calm, of being hugged by nature. The cabin is designed from a shipping-container, which now serves as the bedroom, extended with recovered and new building materials, to produce a light-filled kitchen/dining /lounge area, and an amazing bathroom greenhouse. The beds are comfortable and warm. The pot-belly fireplace heats up the home beautifully. The bathroom greenhouse is a living sanctuary of lush ferns, vines, flowers, terrariums, and pot plants. There is nothing better than a hot candle-lit bath or shower, amongst the greenery, looking up through the windows at the moon or starlit sky. The large hot-tub comfortably fits 2 (and can fit up to 4 adults), so make a night of it, and pamper yourself. We even have a towel warmer! The kitchen is fully equipped for gourmet cooking and baking, for those who like to get creative in the kitchen. Espresso coffee maker and fresh ground coffee are provided, as well as milk, tea, sugar, cooking oil and some fresh herbs and medicinal teas from our herb garden. Appliances include refrigerator with freezer, gas stovetop, oven and grill, a rice-cooker, toaster, kettle and blender. We have all the kitchen utensils and baking dishes you are likely to need. The home is designed to support the ecological values of our organic farm, and the pristine environment of the Otways. Choosing to stay in our eco-friendly accommodation allows you to enjoy a beautiful relaxing holiday while leaving no impact on the natural environment you have come here to enjoy. The Welcome Swallow Hideaway has been a special project for my daughter and I. It is ecologically-friendly, comfortable and stylish, and now we want to share it with you. We named the cabin after a pair of Welcome-Swallows who made a mud-nest on the front porch during the summer, raising a family of 4 baby swallows. Their presence made us feel welcomed. We hope our guest will experience this same sense of welcome. It is a very special place.
The location for tourists is ideal. A perfect base for exploring the Otways. We are 20 minutes drive from Apollo Bay with shops restaurants, a harbour and safe swimming beach. We are 90 minutes drive from the Twelve Apostles and historic Port Campbell, 30 minutes from Blanket Bay and the Cape Otway lighthouse, and right on the doorstep of some of the worlds most beautiful ancient temperate rainforests, waterfalls, glow-worm forest, hiking trails and world famous coastlines. We are within walking distance for those of you walking The Great Ocean Walk (60 minutes walk from Aire River), if you want to escape the cold weather and soak your tired legs in our hot-tub

Tucked away, just off the Great Ocean Road is Aire River Escape. An exclusive cabin, designed and built for couples seeking something indulgent and secluded. Nestled on a wide bend of the pristine Aire River the cabin overlooks rich farmland and the Otway National Park. The views, accompanied by the sounds of wildlife will lull you into a state of calm.
Secluded, indulgent and nature, unspoilt. Fully equipped kitchen with everything you would expect. Full size cedar sauna, outdoor spa bath and wood fire. Guests have two kayaks to explore the waterways, go fishing or bird watching. There is an extensive DVD library for movie lovers. All linen, towels and bath robes are provided. Every effort has been made to minimize the impact on the local environment. No harsh soaps or cleaning products. There is an odour free composting toilet located in an out building. (it sounds yucky but I promise you it isn’t). Sorry the cabin is not safe or suitable for young children. Dogs may be permitted at Aire River. Please contact the host BEFORE booking. This is a farming property and there is wildlife and koalas. Dogs must be strictly controlled and well behaved.
This location is very private. Your neighbors are the cows, sheep and the native wild life. Maybe the rare fisherman walking up the river or the farmer checking on the cattle. There are no local shops so make sure you arrive with everything you need for your stay. Apollo Bay is 27klm down the road and is the best place to replenish stocks.
  • The best Air BnB I've ever stayed at. Peaceful, relaxing, rejuvenating and good for the soul. We had Kookaburras laughing in the morning, and clear starry skies to enjoy at night. Wish we could bottle that fresh country air and take it home with us

    Andrew2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Just a great place in a secluded spot on an amazing piece of land. Having kayaks, sauna and spa made the stay the most relaxing we’ve had. Being allowed to have our dog with us made the stay even better.

    Mark2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was incredible. It doesn't get more picturesque than this - cows wandering around the paddocks along the river, forest covering the mountains around us, and the aire river running right past the house! We had an amazing time full of saunas, spa baths, kayaking, cooking in the well equipped kitchen and lounging around in robes on the very comfortable bed + couch. The house was full of little touches that made it feel welcoming and luxurious. Thank you!

    Ruby2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely take the kayaks up the river to the rapids and keep a look out for the many koalas! Lovely place to unwind :-)

    Gemma2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect place for our honeymoon. The nature was breathtaking, saw lots of healthy koalas, loved kayaking up to the rapids, and finishing each day with a drink with the sheep and cattle. Thank you Lisa, we might have to come back for our 1 year anniversary! Jack and Sarah

    Jack2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • This place is such a stunning place to spend some time unwinding. Would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to spend some time enjoying the sounds and sights of wildlife as well as a beautiful outdoor spa bath and sauna.

From the comfortable outdoors seating area of the deck you can read, play board games, relax, or observe Koalas and many species of birds, which can be seen daily in the trees right outside the house. Not a day goes by we don’t see Koalas, particularly mothers and babies, sleeping and eating gum-leaves. If you have never seen Koalas in their natural habitat, you will be sure to see many here, we have several families of Koalas living in the trees right outside our back door, just a few meters from our house. Other native animals regularly visit the property as they emerge from the forest to graze at sunset. Animals spotted regularly include Wallabies, Echidnas, Kookaburras, Rosellas, King Parrots, Wedge Tail eagles, Cockatoos, boo-book and powerful Owls at night, and of course the ever present beautiful Blue Wren (Splendid Fairy Wren). The Blue Wren Hideaway is a bird-watcher's dream come true. Sitting quietly in the forrest for just ten minutes you are likely to spot at least 10 different species of birds. We provide binoculars for our guests to enjoy. For keen astronomy enthusiasts, at night, while listening to the owls, you can enjoy unobstructed views of the night sky to the south and west. With no light pollution, the Milky Way is dazzling, and its neighbouring galaxies are easily visible to the naked eye. Bring a telescope if you have one, or use the binoculars provided. The space is ideal for romantic weekend getaways, family vacations or for groups of friends exploring the great ocean road and tourist destinations. Its a wonderful place to just relax and unwind. Whether you stay a couple of days or a couple of weeks, Blue Wren Hideaway is set up to feel like home. We have given our most careful consideration and attention to ensure our guests have a welcoming, warm and quality eco-accomodation experience. Our property is eco-friendly, we use only organic farming and gardening practices, all our water is collected from pure rainwater, our electricity is sourced from renewable sources that do not contribute to greenhouse emissions, and we collect our own firewood sustainably (fallen branches from trees grown on the property). It is important to us that we offer our guests a comfortable accomodation experience that does not harm the natural environment around us. Whatever brings you to explore the majestic natural beauty of the Otways, we are sure you will find that the Blue Wren Hideaway is the perfect choice for your accomodation. THE LOCATION The property is located on the Great Ocean Road providing easy day trips to all the many world class attractions the Otways has to offer, such as The Great Ocean Walk and many other scenic hiking trails, National Parks, spectacular waterfalls, forests and beaches. • Murray's Blue Wren Hideaway was the ultimate accommodation for a weekend visit to the Otways. The space was much bigger than we expected so there was plenty of room for us all, the property was stunning and perfectly tucked away making for a peaceful and serene experience. We saw plenty of native wildlife plus the location is only a 20 minute drive to the main shops etc. Highly recommend for an authentic and immersive Otways getaway. Thank you Murray! We look forward to coming again for future visits!

  • The place is at middle of nowhere and that's exactly what we wanted and liked the most. The cabin is at a huge green area amidst big trees with plenty of koalas on them. We got to hear roars of the koalas which was a surprise gift to us. There was a baby deer roaming around as well. Beautifully decorated cabin and plenty of sleeping spaces for 5 of us.

  • We really had the best time. Loved the house, loved the surroundings, loved the koalas, loved the location, loved the house...! We only regretted that we didn’t stay longer........! Also love how Murray pays attention about the environment. I really think it is important that we realize how much garbage we produce, so I see it as e pre, that you have to take your garbage with u.

  • Had an amazing 3 nights here! A beautiful cabin tucked amongst the trees! The place was very clean and comfy. The only thing we would critique is there should be firewood included as this is the only source of heating for the cabin. Don’t forget to stop off at Apollo Bay for your essentials(fuel, food, firewood)before you arrive as it’s 35 mins from anything. Other than that we absolutely loved the place.. definitely going back! • We had a great stay in the Otways. While the accommodation is compact, it was more than spacious for our group. We saw (and heard!) several Koala during our stay which was a delight for the non-Victorians of the team. The Otways is a beautiful region, which made the journey to the accommodation all the more enjoyable. The only thing to note is it's pretty sparse with cooking essentials (namely oil) – when in doubt, bring some with you!

  • Absolutely breathtaking. Clearest of skies, shooting stars, amazing views all seen from the deck spa!! The house is filled with character and nostalgia with a beautiful charm in every corner. Great log fire and the comfiest of beds made this a romantic and memorable trip. Such a welcoming, relaxed home as soon as walk in. Can’t wait to get back!!

  • Top Hill was an amazing cottage that allowed us to wind down and disconnect from our busy city lives. The house was cosy, had an amazing view, and there were heaters everywhere around the house, so we were never cold. There was also a fireplace, which was lovely, and there was plenty of firewood for us to use. My partner and I stayed here for Valentine's Day weekend and this is a very romantic choice. We also brought our Samoyed along with us, and the cottage was well accommodated for him. Water was left out for him on arrival, there was poop scoops and poop bags available for us to use, and Bo provided us with towels and covers so that his fur didn't get everywhere. He was allowed to chill with us inside, just as he would at home. Overall, a very lovely stay and we would definitely recommend it to those who want some secluded time with their significant other, without being too overly distracted by the internet!

    Tomie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Picturesque and even better than the photos, the view & outdoor spa was incredible. The enclosed grass area for our dog was perfectly secure and practical - we felt safe enough to leave her there while we were in the house, and she had enough room to run up and down for 'zoomies'. There is a private walking track on the extended property which is beautiful, taking you through fern forests, the usual forests and farmland with rolling hills & sweeping views. Dogs are allowed on the track as it is private property under Top House. The location is perfect for Johanna Beach, the ONLY "dog friendly" (strict lease at all times) beach/space in ALL OF THE OTWAYS (this made travel difficult at times), just 12 minutes down the road. The sounds of birds and the distant ocean filled the air during our stay, with no road traffic or people for that matter to be heard ever. In terms of accessing The Otways sights, it's a great spot for navigating through to Cape Otway Lightstation, Otway Fly Treetop Adventure and the Twelve Apostles. The Otways itself is huge, with sights spread out very far, but we felt Glenaire & Top House was the perfect position for being centred to these sights. We shopped at Foodworks in Apollo Bay (35 minutes away) and cooked for our 3 nights - Lavers Hill just 10 minutes up the road appeared to have a small tuck shop of sorts, but there are definitely no established restaurants or eateries nearby. This was part of the charm staying in a rural coastal property. The only thing to note was that Telstra was the only provider with reception and 4G/data service (as advertised in the Airbnb listing), but we were provided with a WiFi voucher for a single device of 1GB for our 3 nights stay. Thank you to Bo and Trudie (interim caretaker) for our stay!

  • Aboslutely loved our stay at the Top House at Glenaire Cottages. The hosts were both amazing. We were made to feel so accommodated. The views were just phenomenal, the birds and wildlife were beautiful to look at and to listen to. It's a shame it was too hot to use the fireplace so we will be going back to do that in winter. Just perfect! Thank you Bo and Neil for your wonderful hospitality and the lovely chats xx

  • This place is perfect if you're looking for a quiet and relaxing weekend. The property is secluded and the surrounds are beautiful. It's also in a great spot for exploring the Otways and nearby attractions. The property was clean, large and exactly as described. I would happily return and stay again. Bo was a great host and greeted us with a friendly phone call in the morning of our check-in. She gave us some tips on places to visit and made clear that she was available if we needed anything during our stay.

  • Ian’s place was fantastic for a weekend away in the Otway region. It’s a beautiful home in a secluded right in the bush with views out over the ocean. Ian was a great host, offering us early check in and late check out and very responsive to any queries we had. I recommend Ian’s place for your next stay in the area.

  • Stunning accomodation in a brilliant location. Close to so many sights and yet in a serene and secluded location. Lovely personal touch and perfect place to unwind. Would definitely come back again.

  • Our stay with Ian was wonderful. Every day we were amazed by the view, looking out into the trees and seeing the ocean in the distance. The home was also really special and full of interesting touches and everything we needed for the weekend. The vegetable garden was INCREDIBLE – we really loved having fresh vegies and herbs to cook with! The location was perfect for us to spend day trips to the 12 Apostles and a bunch of other amazing places that Ian has put in the travel guide. We feel so lucky to have found this place. Would definitely love to stay again. Thank you, Ian, for being such a great host!

    Nick2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • “Sea garden” is a wonderful space in terms of location and accommodation. We appreciated its apparent remoteness - you need to take your supplies when you go, but Apollo Bay and Laver’s Hill are not very far; you’ll find yourself in a clearing in the forest with a distant sea view of Johanna Beach and you’ll see wallabies in the morning and evening around the house - and its comfort - a charming, quirky house that speaks of someone who knows his way around tools and building and who has an eye for the unusual and the beautiful; well-furnished rooms and a kitchen that works and is indeed well-supplied (as opposed to those you too may have encountered with cupboards totally bare). Communication with Ian was excellent and his welcome was warm, relaxed and friendly. I had a tour of his kitchen garden which I had an invitation and occasion to use. This is a place in which to sit back, relax and enjoy the atmosphere of the place. Your host knows the area, is helpful and friendly. We really appreciated the calm and comfort and - let’s be practical - the good value of Ian’s Otway “Sea garden”. We’ll go back!

  • Amazing peaceful place, surrounded by bush, with sea view. Lot of wildlife such as wallabies, cockatoos, parrots... Ian is lovely and his vegetables wonderful.

Plus, not only was Lyn a fantastic host, but we also got to enjoy some time speaking with her at her store in town and she even helped us plan our drive and stops for the rest of the day. Come to Apollo Bay and stay here!

  • We had a bit of drive in hills before arriving at the house which is far from shops and restaurants, we bought food and cooked dinner at the house, which saved us a bit drive on windy roads after dark. There are heaters in almost every room so we had a warm and cozy stay. No phone connection in the house (ours are with optus, sos only in the house, very poor connection in the yard. telstra can survive), wifi did not work during our stay, I guess it was something to do with the weather, it had been raining on the day of our arrival (it happens to our house when weather goes really bad), however, thanks to the weather, we had a great stay for people get connected better without internet connection. Pets friendly, my dog had a happy good run in the yard.

We spent our time just sitting on the deck and in the morning we woke up to kangaroos at our window looking in! • It is a really nice spot along the Great Ocean Road, it is in a camp ground so be aware that it is camping cabin. It was all very clean and it is also very close to some hikes around the campsite. There seemed to be lots of activities to do within the campsite but we were only there for the night. Great experience overall.

  • It was wonderful! The caravanpark is in a perfect spot far from loud streets and under gumtrees, we even saw koalas! The owners are very friendly. We got a free upgrade, the cabin was very clean and had everything we needed, the beds were very comfortable, we just spent one night but we would have loved to stay longer, I can definetly recommend coming here.

  • I stayed at Bimbi Park for one night while travelling on the Great Ocean Road and wish I could have stayed longer. The place is incredible - so much to see and do, a nice relaxed vibe and great, friendly staff. I stayed in one of the cabins and it looked like it was pretty new or just renovated, everything was spotless clean, the bed was super comfy. Highly recommend!

  • Frank’s place is a great campground. The location in the Otway Park is gorgeous and the campground itself is great. Our cabin was very comfortable with all the amenities we could ask for. There’s a great playground for the kids and a mild walk to the ocean. The staff is knowledgeable about the area and were a great help in suggesting stopping points on our drive. Great place and we’ll be returning

  • Clean, good amenities and close to Cape Otway. There were Koalas within the camp ground.

  • We decided to leave the review in Spanish because we know that many people speak Spanish as a native language and live in AUSTRALIA, so the site is particularly special for those who like contact with nature, it is in the middle of the forest, literal, ideal for camping, bonfire at night, they also have cabins that are a kind of trailer type cabins, small but with all the basics, the bathrooms despite being shared, are very clean !! Laundry available, and the best thing is the location, we could see kangaroos in their natural wild state (not aggressive) inside the park !! Simply recommended and we will definitely return

    Carlos2020-01-28T00:00:00Z

  • Ray’s place was just as expected - bright, inviting and spacious. The local wildlife were fun to interact with during our beautiful barbecue dinner on the balcony, with amazing views of Apollo Bay. Sleeping with a view was lovely too, every room was stylish and clean. We loved coming home to this villa every day of our trip and will definitely be back again.

  • Absolutely stunning! The photos don’t do the view or the place justice! Great facilities and easy check in, having nature so close is an added bonus. Have recommended others to stay, which says it all.

  • Very nice house, stylisch, modern well maintained and very clean. Located in a beautiful hillside with stunning view including a small view of the bay. Ray was extremely nice, gave us a warm welcome including a small guided tour to a nearby tree with koalas. In addition we enjoyed a lot feeding the colorful parrots on our porch with the seeds Ray provided! A perfect stay!

It is exceptionally clean, comfortable and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The views for the balconies are superb. Ray is a great host who goes out if his way to ensure you make the most of your stay in this lovely area. Very highly recommended.

  • We had a lovely stay here, despite the variable weather. Ray came by as soon as we had a question regarding the TV setup. His wife even gave us a homemade fruitcake. Ray also took us on a tour to see the koalas in the nearby trees. Really nice people who made our stay quite special.

  • We had a fantastic stay! We were so impressed with everything from the cleanliness of the cottage, the beautiful setting, the coziness of the house, and the thoughtfulness of the host! She truly had everything covered- we were traveling with our 2 yr old and 8 month old and they were well taken care of with the baby cot, high chair, bunk bed, and fun array of toys and books. We loved the access to the gardens and we were so thrilled to have the added bonus of kangaroos playing in the pasture each night. Such a nice stay for our family and we hope to return soon!

Long Tide retreat is a beautiful property, set amongst the trees with breathtaking ocean and forest views. Natural beauty and vast expanse merges with an earthy and tranquil barn style guest house. A truly magical space to rest and retreat from the world.
We are the last property at the end of the street, making for an incredibly tranquil setting. Our stunning property sits at the very end of a 1.5km dirt road, with breathtaking ocean views at the end of our quiet street. We are a gorgeous 10 minutes drive to Skenes Creek Beach, 15 minutes drive to Apollo Bay township & beaches, 60 minutes from Lorne and 25 minutes from the super cute inland town of Forrest. Our property exists within a generous opening amongst the surrounding forest. Our house and the guest house sit separately, 50 or so metres apart, giving you your very own space, but we are here (or not too far away!) if you need us. We are very happy to give you complete privacy and we are also available should you need anything as we live “next door”. The guest house is a unique 2 story + mezzanine barn style house, crafted naturally out of local and recycled timber. It has great energy with a wonderful, cozy, rustic feel. No traffic noise, no other houses nearby, just ours. The accommodation itself is natural, earthy, warm and very comfortable. The building was built chemical free and is so unique with its natural and recycled timbers and textures. The guest house comes with a very spacious living area complete with a luxurious fire place, air conditioning/heating split system; giving you comfortable temperature control no matter what the Otway forest delivers weather wise. The living area upstairs has two comfy couches to spread out on, a big arm chair and a cozy papasan chair in the reading nook. THERE IS NO GUEST WIFI AT LONG TIDE RETREAT as where we live is difficult and unreliable to service with a WIFI connection... but have no fear! We've made up for the lack of WIFI with other fabulous things.... We have heaps of books, magazines, a cupboard full of board games, drawing supplies and puzzles. There is a TV with regular regional TV channels and a blueray DVD player for any movies you may want to watch (current count is 150+ of our favourites on DVD). You can also bring a hard drive to plug into the DVD player to watch your own movies. There's also a Sony portable Bluetooth speaker for you to play your favourite music or podcast. You can access the internet with your smart phone or tablet via your own standard mobile data. The fireplace is magnificent when it's cold outside, and we will provide all the fire wood you need to keep you warm and cosy. Firewood and kindling are located in the downstairs carport and you are free to use what you need during your stay. When the storms roll in, there is nothing better than curling up on the couch by the fire with a book and a cup of tea. Please help yourself to kindling and firewood from the carport downstairs when required. For your convenience the split system AC unit provides instant heat at the touch of a button, to keep you warm before you get the fire going. Adjoining the living space we have a quaint, clean and functional kitchen completely set up with everything you need. Kitchen staples including oil, butter, margarine, salt + pepper, cow's milk, soy milk and almond milk, lots of herbs and spices and some non perishable items in the cupboard are available. If it's in the kitchen, you're free to use it. The fridge/freezer, gas oven, gas cook top and microwave are all high quality updated appliances helping to make it easy to stay in and retreat. There's plenty of inside and outside dining space, perfect for exhaling for a short or long stay. We have a BBQ on the deck ready for you to use while soaking up the summer sunshine. BEDROOM 1: is equipped with a king bed, with a large wardrobe space and bright, north facing window out to the garden. BEDROOM 2: has a queen sized bed and is found in the upstairs mezzanine which is accessed via the attic ladder. The roof height is around 170cm at it's peak and pitches down either side, so it's cosy, but be sure to watch your head if you're tall. The roof window comes complete with block out blind, and easily opens right out to catch the breeze. You can also view the sun or moon rise to the east, or open to gaze at that wonderful starry sky on a clear night. Beds are supplied with quality linen and beautiful natural soft goose down doonas. All towels are also supplied, dried in our solar power drier making them soft and fluffy. The downstairs full bathroom is large, bright and luxurious, it blends a beautiful polished concrete floor with the natural textured timber walls and ceiling. It has a large shower complete with an amazing huge waterfall shower head. There is a gorgeous enamel claw foot bath, which can be enjoyed day or night, whilst watching the bird life in the neighbouring forest, or the stars on a clear night. There is a second toilet and sink upstairs also for those middle of the night trips. Stepping out upstairs you will find the spacious viewing deck extending directly outside from the living space. It comes complete with big table, chairs and a BBQ. It's from here you will want to do some koala and bird watching or take in the sounds, smells, and sights of the forest and ocean. In our kitchen we offer complimentary coffee beans ready to grind fresh and a selection of 10 beautiful organic teas. Occasionally we will have eggs to share from our chickens, bring your own just in case! Many native animals live in this space with us. Koalas regularly visit as do wallabies, kangaroos and echidnas. The bird life is phenomenal, and incredible to listen to at first light or dusk, especially when the kookaburras start laughing. Oh, and the owls! You might get a glimpse of our resident Powerful Owl or the Boobook. Our favourite part of day is that dreaminess of sunset, where the sky is often ablaze with intense colours that fill the atmosphere. The elevation expands the horizon in a way that really opens up the sky. On a clear night the sky is truly something you have to witness. With no light pollution, the stars will literally take your breath away. It is a totally different sky to anything you will see in the city or with lights around. If you aren't feeling like heading to the beach, just stay in for a glass of wine on the deck or in front of the fire, or why not do some star gazing out the window from the deep claw foot bath? From the luxury of the pillow top beds to the organic tea and coffee on offer, we have created this space for you to stop and really sink in and relax. Give yourself permission to do nothing! On our side of the fence we have 3 chocolate labradors. Freckles the eldest, Frankie the middle and Phoenix the youngest, who is Frankie's daughter. They are wonderful and love any opportunity to meet people. Phoenix likes to bark when someone arrives to let everyone know someone is here, but she is adorable, friendly and will always respect your space. We have a chicken coop with 11 girls laying eggs most days and a bee hive that helps pollenate our growing fruit tree orchard. Dale runs his Osteopathic clinic by appointment from the downstairs portion of the barn on Wednesday-Saturday. Patients will come and go on those days from the separate space underneath the barn. The treatment room is totally separate from the accommodation. If you'd like to chat to Dale about Osteopathy please get in touch.
Skenes Creek North is a semi rural but mostly forest coastal landscape. To give you an example we have about 4 acres of cleared space and the rest is natural bush. Our neighbours are similar, some have a little more cleared space for orchards and grazing animals. We are about 400 metres above sea level. As such we are often above the sea mist in summer, and can also be right in the cloud mist in winter. It's magical. Skenes creek itself is in front of us and is a beautiful picturesque town ship on the edge of Apollo Bay. The town itself is just houses and a beach, with the exception of a caravan park, which sells newpapers, coffee, and milk. The area is pristine national park as part of the Otway Ranges National Park and an endless number of beaches that extend in both directions along the great ocean road. It is a natural paradise and is so fun to explore in either direction, including inland where you will find old growth forest, waterfalls, and some tourist attractions such as the Otway treetop walk and redwood forest. The township of Forrest is a haven for nature lovers, in particular moutain bikers due to its extensive range of trails. It also has a wonderful local brewery, an equally cool general store and is also the home of a boutique chocolate shop.

  • Perfect escape from the city. So serene, relaxing and calm! Dale and Jackie's place is in a picture perfect spot and is beautifully set up. Thanks for a lovely stay!

  • Our long weekend at Long Tide was incredible! 5 stars for everything - absolutely beautiful location, stunning house, very comfy bed, cosy fireplace, lots of info about things to do in the area. Jackie and Dale were super friendly and helpful when we saw them, but the place is also separate and private so we felt like we also had our own space. They also had one of the best tea collections I've seen! Very much hoping to be back one day :)

  • Jackie and Dale provide an amazing space to get away and experience nature in one of the most amazing places in the world. The property was dreamy, and the surrounding nature was stunning. We were lucky enough to watch a storm roll in over the ocean, it was like a scene from a fantasy movie. The cabin itself was so beautiful and cozy. It was filled with thoughtful little touches, such as a large selection of gourmet teas, a fireplace, books, amongst many other things. Jackie and Dale (as well as Freckles, Pheonix and Frankie) were lovely and genuinely made us feel welcome, giving us a tour of the property and offering some great recommendations in regards to local activities and dining. Thank you again for an amazing experience and we cannot wait to visit again.

  • What an incredible getaway! Not only are these pods on the most amazing stretch of land, but on your doorstep is the beautiful national park, all the way down to the beach. Well worth taking your walking shoes and making the most of the time there. The view is spectacular and early morning show from the roos an added bonus!

  • Absolutely incredible stay! We booked super last minute just for the night and were blown away by the property! The view was amazing, complete privacy and the pod was well equipped and styled so nicely! Maxwell was an amazing host and let us leave our car on site after checkout whilst we explored the area! Wished we could have stayed longer and will definitely be back! Highly recommend.

  • A perfect couples get-away! Max was the most perfect host offering the finest of Airbnbs on the market. 5* location, views, amenities- it had it all. Wonderful wildlife to enjoy on your balcony in the evenings. Wouldn't hesitate to return. Thanks again for everything Max

    Philip2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Incredible panoramic views of the coast!! Sitting back and watching the sunset every night was amazing. The Sky Pod was gorgeous - beyond what I expected. Our host Max gave us a warm welcome & was very accomodating. Will be back again! Thanks again Max! - Hannah & Chris

  • Where do I start... Max was an absolute legend! His knowledge of the land and his passion, enthusiasm and energy radiates from him the moment you exchange “hello’s”. You’re greeted personally by Max, shown around the Skypod which is designed beautifully and with the environment in mind. Max’s knowledge of the land, it’s history and surrounding things to do is second to none. This was our last night of our honeymoon and we didn’t think to bring a bottle of wine, Max went out of his way to personally deliver us some wine (on his tractor of course). Thanks legend! The bed is insanely comfortable, the views are amazing and the stars - like we’ve never seen before! Our recommendation would be to turn up with all your supplies so that you don’t need to leave! Kitchen is well equipped with all cooking equipment and has the basics like olive oil, salt & pepper, tea & coffee, milk etc. We only wished we’d booked for longer! We’ll be back! Couldn’t fault a single thing! Thanks guys!

  • We spent such a splendid three nights at Max’s place in Cape Otway - a beautiful part of the world. The pod offered such incredible and immersive views we spent so much time just sitting and soaking it all in. The pod itself was well equipped and nicely designed and Max was a great host and fun to chat to. Amazing beach walks, sunsets, wildlife, stargazing - it was hard to leave! Gotta figure out a way to make this our everyday lives...

    Melissa2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We were the 2nd couple to try out the brand new luxury pods perched on the beautiful property at Cape Otway and we were blown away by this amazing & secluded location. The views of the ocean as the sun set beyond the horizon was one of the best sun sets we’ve ever seen. The cosy pod is well equipped and has everything you need to relax, unwind and enjoy the 180 degree views. At night an easy set up projector is available for some great night time entertainment. The host Maxwell is a top bloke and was very helpful with recommendations and showing us around, 5 star accommodation we will be back!

    Clint2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Where do we start... we were fortunate enough to be the first guests at the pod and it would be an understatement to say that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Max and Lisa were lovely hosts, they made sure that we felt welcome at their remarkable property at all times. The pod was exceptional! It was a very cosy space and the panoramic view of the ocean was something else, and then there’s that sunset! Absolutely loved every minute of our stay and we will definitely be back!

  • We had a great stay. We loved the view and surrounding wildlife. The place was warm and comfortable and nice and quiet. Its a short drive to the beach and to the shops. Hope to stay again one day.

  • Wonderful place to stay for an escape from urban living. The place is really clean, the kitchen is fully equipped and our host, Ray was most welcoming! There are birds that you can feed every afternoon, with bird feed that Ray has so kindly provided, and Koalas in the trees surrounding the house. Conveniently located just a short drive from the township, it’s a good choice for accomodation if you’re looking for a comfortable nest to return to after a long day at the beach, or touring great ocean road.

    Theresa2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Photos don't do the stunning scenery justice! It's absolutely beautiful and Ray makes the stay easy. 10/10 would recommend to everyone!

  • Amazing location, peaceful and quiet!! Beautiful and clean ideal for a weekend getaway. Couldn’t recommend it enough!!

    Kieran2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A private, tranquil place in a lovely setting. Ray pointed out a koala in a tree by the door! We really enjoyed feeding the parrots.

    Kathleen2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Ray is a warm host. The house is as described. Quiet and only a few minutes drive from the main strip. If you plan to use the washer or the fireplace perhaps have Ray give you a quick tutorial when you arrive. You can see gorgeous wildlife just out of your window and it is close to a lot of activities within a short drive.
