My place is close to parks, river, rural village, cafes, bars, shops, restaurant, golf courses, tennis courts, beaches, art and culture, cycling routes, walking paths, activity centre, wildlife, nature & transport links. You’ll love my place because of the cosiness, the views, the location, fully refurbished, large garden, decked area, log burner, fully equipped kitchen and the local people - welcoming and friendly. . My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, families (with kids)(pets).
We offer a very tastefully finished retreat offer clean yet cosy accommodation. You are only a very short stroll from the local Bars and eateries. In the garden, you have a oasis of peace with views of the River Fleet, trees and hillside beyond.
Gatehouse of Fleet offers country living at its very best. A range of local pubs offering fine food and a great selection of beers, ales and more Gins that you would care to believe. Gatehouse has two convenience stores, post office, pharmacy, hair salon, bank and a fantastic tearoom which doubles up as a fantastic burger joint!
  • Just returned from a break at the Cosy Retreat. The pictures on the site make the place look beautiful, however it's even better in real life. From the roaring log fire to the invigorating power shower and beautiful decking overlooking the river, this place has everything you would need. Little touches like the welcome hamper added to our stay. A big thanks to Robert and I'm sure we'll be back when the weather is a bit nicer.

  • The Cosy Retreat is a lovely holiday home and perfect for those wishing a peaceful and relaxing break. Our children really enjoyed their time and we were so grateful for all the thoughtful touches, including a Christmas tree. Thank you so much for a lovely break.

  • Beth’s Bothy is a fantastic snug which has been very well designed to maximise the space. It has everything you would need for a relaxing few days away including cooking facilities, TV, wifi and an amazing hot tub. There are lots of walks nearby and some lovely restaurants and pubs in Gatehouse of Fleet which is about a 15 - 20 minute walk away through the woods or on the main road. The snug was very clean and the hot tub is checked daily by the host and drained and refilled after each visit. We enjoyed sitting in the hot tub each night and looking up to the stars which were crystal clear. Even in the low February temperatures, the hot tub stayed consistently warm and lovely. The host also left some home baked scones and fresh flowers for our arrival which was a great touch and very much appreciated. All in all, this is a great place to stay and we highly recommend it!

  • Lovely house. Great host

  • Had a great stay here. Place was big enough for ten of us and it is a lovely part of the country. Thought it was good value, it’s a bit run down and could have been cleaner but does the job. Neighbours were a bit difficult one of them came round accusing us of walking through their garden but it must have been one of the other rental properties on the estate. Overall had a really good weekend.

    Mark2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Stunning old-style property with plenty of room - we had a party of 10 - and access to local beaches and lovely walks. Nice and secluded and very homely

    John2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had an absolutely fantastic stay at Groom’s House! Ten of us stayed for Christmas and had an amazing time. Lots of space for everyone to socialise together or separately. Plenty of sleeping space and the best appointed kitchen I’ve ever had in a rental. Christmas dinner for 10 was a breeze. Location is beautiful and we had several short walks to the beach, which really is just a few minutes walk. Brilliant instructions for everything in the house so we were able to make the most of it. Would definitely recommend.

    Demi2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great space for big families in a beautiful area of Scotland. We loved our stay. Tim was very hospitable.

  • Lovely stay!

    Helen2019-10-22T00:00:00Z
  • A calm and relaxing place to stay with its old world charm. A short walk to the sea. A lovely place for a family gathering.

    Rosanne2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • 10 of us enjoyed a comfortable stay at Tim’s place! The communal living and kitchen spaces were especially great for our large group. The location is great for exploring this area of Scotland and we made use of the short walk (25 mins) to the beach every evening as it was really lovely! Check-in for us was simple and easy and we enjoyed being left to our own devices! Only concerns were that the washing machine and dishwasher leaked whilst we were there which caused some problems. Also the games room isn’t really usable at the moment which was a shame! Otherwise, thanks for a great stay Tim :)

  • Beautiful, spotless little lodge, the host had added many extra touches. Great stay

  • Great little cottage. Everything you need for a hassle free stay by Gate House of Fleet Maggie was quick to answer questions and had the place ready for us on arrival. Would use again and would recommend 😁

    Stuart2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful lodge and very tastefully decorated! Maggie went out of her way to ensure we could access and find the property with ease, as well as offering activities and local amenities. Brilliant experience all in all!

    Ruth2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, stylish and provided with the basics to ensure that you can have a cup of tea at least upon arrival! Loved our stay here - cosy and comfy amidst the storm raging outside. Good location for exploring further west but close enough to the likes of Newton Stewart and Kirkcudbright for a wee bit of shopping. Fab stay.

    Donna2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • An absolute little place in a gorgeous area of Scotland. Difficult to find in the dark but as soon as we found it we settled straight in. Had trouble getting the fire going on the first night but Maggie kindly dropped off a massive bag of kindling for the next couple of nights. Plenty of bits in and nice and cosy in the house. Will definitely be back.

    Rebecca2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at Ardwall Lodge. Maggie was a great host and communication from her was great with lots of info about the area. The Lodge is lovely with lots of little touches. The kitchen is well stocked pans utensils, etc. if you decide to stay in and cook. It was so relaxing to sit by the fire in the evenings. The bedrooms were both nice and the bed was so comfy. As others have mentioned the property is close to the road but we didn’t find this an issue. It is a great base for exploring the local area.

    Nicholla2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Maggie is a wonderful host, who will help you out with local recommendations for good places to eat and things to do. The cottage is very tidy and a homely environment. We would definitely recommend this for anyone to stay. The facilities for my 1 year old daughter were great too! She had her own room with a cot, a high chair as well as plates, cups and cutlery. Which made going away with a toddlers that little bit easier.

    Mary2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Let me start by saying a big thank you to Maggie for letting us check in little earlier than it’s written on the site, and for all the effort she made to decorate the lodge for Christmas ( we had Christmas tree and few garlands) place is clean and same as in pictures. Host answered all our messages quickly . Enjoyed our stay hopefully will be coming again in the future .

  • We were visiting grandparents that live only 2 minutes away which was our main reason for staying but we’re so glad we chose to stay in this lovely little cottage - it was perfect. The cottage has a lovely cosy, homely feeling. Extremely clean and the heating was on when we arrived which was perfect.

Middle cottage is a modern wing of our 19th century house, nestled within farmland in a secluded and rural location, with distant views of the Cumbrian fells and the Isle of Man. We think our location is very special. Our cottage is comfortable, spacious and well equipped, with attention to detail to ensure our guests have a truly memorable stay.
We have sociable, open plan living, eating and dining accommodation which links to the landscape through ceiling to floor windows. There is an abundance of wildlife to be viewed from your armchair. The bright shower room has a power shower and the bedroom has a comfy, super king bed; this can be split into 2 single beds if required. There is ample room for a toddler bed or cot. We want you to be able to appreciate our location as much as we do, so encourage you to spend time in and exploring our garden with lawns, wildlife area, burns and animals. But if you want to just sit back and enjoy the view then there is a patio accessed from the living space.
The local area has a lot to offer; there are outside activities, history and art and many festivities on going across the year. There are many interesting, independent businesses for shopping and food and drink. We are happy to help you plan your stay, sharing local knowledge on the best places to visit.
  • What a fantastic place to stay! Stylish, quiet, warm and comfortable cottage with great views and a great host.

  • Wow. What a lovely place Middle Cottage is. Undoubtedly my favourite Airbnb. A large beautifully designed space with lots of lovely little touches everywhere. I had a thorough rest and Mike and Suzanne made that easy for me. Beautiful views all round and handy for all the local amenities. A great place to stay

  • Suzanne and Mike have created a wonderful place to stay- stylish, warm, comfortable and super clean. Every detail has been thought of and consequently you feel at home straightaway. All the finishing touches are of high quality and it makes the very spacious cottage feel very luxurious. The eggs, milk, coffee ,cake ,muesli etc were much appreciated. The views from the windows are lovely and the location perfect. There's lots to see and do close by. Suzanne and Mike are lovely people and very welcoming. We were lucky to have a clear night sky and it was awesome. Go to lovely Dumfries and Galloway and relax !

    Jan2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful location tucked away amongst the fields with views across green grass, sheep and cows. Very spacious open plan living area with direct access to the garden. Suzanne and Mike gave a tremendously warm welcome, introducing our daughter to the goats, dog, ducks and chickens. Thoughtful touches: books and toys and toy house for our daughter to enjoy and home baked scones waiting for us to enjoy. We would definitely recommend to couples, singles and small families. They also have a larger property which we had a sneak peak at which would suit a family of four, FYI! Happy memories made here, thank you.

    Rhiana2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • All the other reviews say it all really and they are so accurate! We had an absolutely super three nights thanks to Suzanne and Mike. We would highly recommend Middle Cottage as a base to explore the area or just enjoy the setting. We intend to return next year for the same excellent hospitality.

  • This is a beautiful house, very clean, smart decor and had a well stocked kitchen. The upside down nature, with the lounge upstairs meant we had lovely views of the coast. The night sky was remarkable too! There's lots to see and do around here, castles, beaches, good walking country, we were sorry our break was so short.

Maybe one of the most luxurious and cleanest cottages you'll ever stay in. The But & Ben was originally a stable for the horses who serviced Scott's Timber Mill. The only reminders of the stable is a tethering ring on the back wall & a horse shoe we found while refurbishing the patio. It had been converted to a domestic residence a number of years ago & has been extensively refurbished to provide a unique and luxurious base from where you can explore our wonderful village and surrounding areas.
We are situated in a quiet, private area behind Scott's Mill, at the top of Ann Street. Private parking is available and you also have your own sheltered garden with patio & furniture to relax in. Included in the tariff is full oil central heating & electricity. But and Ben is a short walk away from local restaurants, pubs and shops as well as the Cally Woods, golf course, tennis court and local park. There is also a number of beaches close by, the nearest being about 3 miles away. Our property is most suited to couples.
  • A luxory cottage in a nice quiet location but within easy walkable distance of all local amenities. Perfect accommodation for two people.

    John2019-09-14T00:00:00Z
  • The But and Ben is simply gorgeous, very stylish and completed to a very high standard. Perfect for a relaxing, comfortable stay with an abundance of everything you may need. Added to that is the location; well our of the way and very private in a beautiful little sleepy Scottish town. The hosts are fantastic too, very accommodating and considerate. If you are looking for a bijou space for two, here it is!

    Elaine2018-08-28T00:00:00Z
  • 5 star accommodation with every single need catered for. If you're looking for a relaxing holiday in a quiet location within easy reach of all the local tourist sights then we would highly recommend that you book a stay at the But and Ben as you won't be disappointed. A parking space is provided. The garden has beautiful furniture allowing you to enjoy a glass of wine and a spot of sunshine. The bed is so comfortable, allowing for a very good night's sleep. Alison and John clearly take pride in providing their guests with a top class service. Photographs don't do the place justice nor do words. The best thing you can do is go ahead and book a stay and experience it all for yourself. We really hope to be able to return again at some point in the future.

    Kirsty2017-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in But & Ben for 1 month and it was absolutely wonderful! Alison is a lovely host, easy to get into touch with and is there if you need anything at all. Everything at But & Ben is 5 star; cozy bathrobes, unlimited supply of plush towels, lavish bed, extravagant shower, etc. The pictures don't do this place justice. The layout has been well thought out and the decor gives it a very clean and modern feel. We found it to be quiet and private but also a very friendly community where we made memorable friendships. It is within walking distance of stores and restaurants and really holds a true Scottish charm being located in beautiful Gatehouse of Fleet. We would 100% recommend But & Ben to anyone looking for the perfect stay whether it be long or short!

The Bothy is a modern self-contained studio attached to the owner's home. An old stone bothy converted in 2017, the accommodation offers a private open plan space with it's own entrance, patio garden and parking. Situated on a smallholding looking out to sea in a beautiful region on the Solway coast, secluded beaches and coves are only a 15 minute stroll and the artists town of Kirkcudbright a short drive away. We offer 20% discounts for weekly stays.
The Bothy is an open plan studio featuring a cosy sitting area with sea views from the patio doors, a compact fully equipped kitchen, spacious king size bed and bathroom with large shower cubicle. An old stone bothy for farm workers in the 19th century, it has been converted with attention to detail retaining many character features. It benefits from modern touches and is highly insulated making it a quiet space, warm in winter and cool in summer and has underfloor heating and an electric stove. The Bothy is compact but feels light and spacious with it's high ceiling and is comfortable for 2 guests. The addition of a unique double loft bed means it offers twin accommodation, or can accommodate 2 extra guests, the loft being ideal for children over 12 and those with a head for heights (see other things to note).
Kinganton is a 15 acre smallholding looking out to sea where we grow our own organic vegetables and keep ducks and sheep as pets. Our land features ancient oak trees, a bluebell wood, a seasonal pond and springs, with wild visitors including Roe deer, red squirrels and hares plus a variety of birdlife including owls and red kites, plus a regular visiting peacock. With sandy beaches, rocky coves and a few surprising old ruins by the sea just a few minutes stroll away, plus walks in the rolling hills and woods around us, there’s plenty to explore on foot, or bike, right from the door. We’re also ideally situated to explore this unspoilt region of South West Scotland. The Artist’s Town of Kirkcudbright with it’s harbour, art galleries, cafes, restaurants and calendar of events is 8 miles away, as is the picturesque village of Gatehouse of Fleet. The Galloway mountains and forests are just a few miles inland offering great walking, mountain bike trails and watersports at Loch Ken. The area is also recognised for its clear skies as one of the 12 best stargazing sites in the world, and the first Dark Sky Park in the UK.
  • Gorgeous little place with thoughtful touches that make the most out of the space. Nice decor, super clean with massive walk in shower. Lovely location for coastal walking and exploring. Thoroughly recommended.

The location is wonderful and it is a great place to explore the beautiful South-West of Scotland. It is a great place to relax. The interior of the cottage is small but so well thought that you have everything you need and feel comfy. • This is the perfect bolt hole for couples wanting to get away from the crowds or a young family. Spotless and perfectly designed. Small but everything you need and not cramped at all. Milk and 2 slices of home-made cake on our arrival (we got there late). Comfy bed, lovely kitchen area and bathroom. We loved it! And a short walk to a secluded beach with rock pools. What more could you want?

    Helen2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • A really cosy bothy with amazing thoughtful design that has turned a small space into a space with everything that you need for a really comfy stay - including fab kitchen facilities for making your own brekkie and meals. The bathroom is also spacious and beautifully done. Ideal for a rural get -away with beaches and walks close by. The owners are encouraging to make use of their land by a short walk down to the beach. (Please note, there is slow WiFi and little phone signal) This however, didn’t affect our stay at all!

Unspoiled rural setting in the heart of Galloway. Just outside the coastal artists town of Kirkcudbright with its historic harbour and close to a choice of quiet beaches this is a great place to relax and unwind surrounded by beautiful countryside. The accomodation is a converted static caravan that we've restored and modernised. With the addition of a large deck with sunken hot tub and views of the surrounding fields and woodland we are sure you'll enjoy your stay.
There is plenty to do in and around this location at all times of the year. Kirkcudbright itself is only five mins away as is the Cocoa bean and the cream of galloway.
  • Great host with amazing attention to detail! The welcome pamper basket with wine, sweet treats and the homemade bread was great. The photos don't show how great the place is ,we all enjoyed it and would like to come back again! The jacuzzi was amazing. Thank you for kindly let us check out later than planned

  • Small touches make a big difference. A small nice touch can make a stay this accommodation offers bundles of them, from the hottub with bathrobes, decking, blankets, decor and furnishings. Bird feeders, big outside area, BBQ, picnic bench and trampoline. Things like Netflix, dvds, extra heaters were welcome additions. Weather was atrocious but the hottub was a brilliant escape. Thanks very much from happy visitors.

    Ian2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The accommodation was excellent! Having the hot tub was amazing! Would recommend to anyone.

    Daniel2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here for three nights and absolutely loved it! The place has been really nicely renovated and has an incredibly chilled feel to it. It’s so private and quiet. We had everything we needed in the cabin. Our three-year old, Luca loved the game selection too! Ut. It’s is the outdoor elements that make this place amazing.... the trampoline sunk into the lawn is genius - so safe for Luca to just run on to and jump away! The hot tub is brilliant - secluded and surrounded by beautiful countryside - but it’s an night that it is the best.... the clear skies and thousands of stars were breath-taking. We stayed during Storm Dennis so didn’t get out and about as much as we might have done. We managed the short trip to the coast though - absolutely stunning and deserted - perfect! Rory & Layna were super responsive. This really is a great place to stay for a complete chill out and is fantastic value. Love love loved it!

    Anita2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • A fab location and a great place to stay. The place has lots of lovely touches and the fresh (still warm) bread was a wonderful surprise. Would love to go back!

    Jen2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely cabin near the town of Kirkcudbright. Quiet and relaxing; helped especially with the addition of the hot tub. Small touches such as the bread and flowers were appreciated also, especially because bread is the one thing we forgot on our way down for our scrambled eggs! ☺️ Thanks again, we will recommend to friends.

    Max2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely, relaxing weekend at the cabin. Beautiful setting, very peaceful and grounding. Cabin equipped with everything you need and lots of extra special touches, fresh flowers, home baked bread, fizzy drinks as requested no alcohol. The only downside was the poor weather but I don't expect anything else in January. I will definitely be back but when we have more daylight and warmer evenings so we can enjoy the outdoor BBQ, fire and seating at the side of the stream. Loved the hot tub too.

  • Lovely stay in the Valley View cottage last week. It was super clean and had everything we needed for the week. Iain came out to meet us as we arrived and was easily available if we needed anything during the week. We thought the few items of play equipment are a great extra touch it was just a shame we couldn't use them more due to some of the weather we had.

Deer and red kites can often be seen around. Parts date back to the 1700’s. Set in a tranquil secluded farmland location near to Kirkcudbright. It's location means that it is quite an isolated property, with a 300m drive along a gravel farm track from the house to the road, then 2 miles to nearest village Twynholm
The ground floor one-bedroomed apartment that has been created out of one end of the old cottage living space, offers cosy quality accommodation in an historic cottage, parts of which date back to the mid 1700's. • Beautiful area and a lovely cosy apartment that had everything we needed. Pauline was so friendly and hospitable and left some lovely touches for us on arrival. The information pack was super helpful as we planned things to do in local area.

  • Thank you so much for having us Pauline and Tim. Your home was a great base for exploring Dumfries and Galloway. It was warm and comfortable, and you’ve stocked the kitchen with everything you could possibly need for a trip away! The cottage and garden are beautiful, even in cold December. I hope we get the opportunity to stay with you again.

  • Great quiet and secluded cottage in the middle of the fields. The place was very clean and has all the amenities for a comfortable stay. Bit tricky to find at night but the instructions and Google Maps got me to the right place. Pauline and her husband live on site and are very helpfull in making sure you have a comfortable stay.

  • Very comfortable accommodation with plenty of amenities in a fabulous location - I literally had to drag myself away from the lounge window every day! Lots of varieties of walks, places to visit, with cycle route number 7 nearby, red kite displays most of the day and lots of villages to explore with local produce to enjoy too - a lovely part of Scotland.
