Set amidst England's highest mountain, it's deepest lake, steepest road and oldest working water mill, Boot village has plenty to see and do for all ages; take a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Narrow Gauge steam railway, enjoy numerous walks from our doorstep along rivers or up mountains, returning home via one of our traditional village pubs. Scafell cottage has an outstanding location with fabulous views and is a beautifully restored 500 year old Elizabethan luxury holiday cottage.
Scafell has four bedroom and three bathrooms, large downstairs living, kitchen and dining areas, with a brand new kitchen recently installed. This luxury holiday cottage has a ground floor double bedroom with ensuite bathroom as well as a downstairs family bathroom and Level 1 Mobility Accreditation, making it ideal for those with limited mobility or requiring ground floor facilities. Please note that the 10th bed is an extra fold away bed suitable for children, available on request for an extra cost of 50GBP. We can also provide cots and high chairs free of charge.
  • A very well organised service, brilliant communication from the owner and clear communication to find the property and enter the property regardless of your arrival time. The property is very fresh, clean and well stocked. The nearby walks including the stepping stones and water fall should not be missed. Sadly the mini train was out of season during our visit but we shall return soon when it is. Enjoy your visit.

  • We had a wonderful time at the cottage. Was perfect for the family and 10 year old. Lots of space and everything was well thought out in terms of space. Stunning location and perfect for us hiking up Scafell pike! 10 out of 10 and will definitely stay again. Thank you Greg!

  • We came to the cottage as a group of nine friends for a catching up weekend and had a lovely time. The setting was extremely quaint, a lovely little village and with two pubs. We were pleasantly surprised with the cottage and felt that the photos didn't do it justice. It was very well done out for catering a larger group, very cosy and practical for a weekend of walking and good food. Greg was very helpful and a self check-in made everything fuss free. Couldnt ask for a better weekend and for decent value. Thanks to Greg and team!

  • Beautiful cozy cottage in stunning valley with plenty of walking on the doorstep. Fantastic attentive host. Brilliant weekend. 10/10 experience.

    Alex2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is in the ideal location to explore the surrounding area. My husband and 5 year old daughter walked to Stanley Gill waterfall, walked to the railway, and were able to walk to the 2 pubs within walking distance for our evening meals. We drove 20 min to Wast Water lake which was absolutely stunning. Otherwise didn't feel the need to leave our cottage. You can hear the water from the nearby mill which was very relaxing. Would love to experience this place in the summer. Very clean and excellent communication with Greg.

    Katelyn2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • A great little cottage on a small stream in a small town. Although a small town, the pubs within walking distance were better for a meal than others in larger surrounding towns. A great place to find some solitude in the Lakes.

    Michael2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • Thanks for a great stay. Spotlessly clean, comfy bed, good shower and dodgy WiFi and signal to keep folk from hassling us :-) Just what we needed for a quiet night away. Village was lovely with a handy shop and friendly pub with good food. The mill was an interesting wander and the surroundings were enough interest to keep us occupied for our short stay. Cheers James and Rosie

    James2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful characterful cottage with everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Stunning scenery. You are "away from it all" and yet an easy walk to 2 pubs and a little shop.

  • A really classic British cottages, nice and clean. The location is really close to the steam train station of the Lake District . Very good and recommend!

  • Cosy and comfortable cottage in a fantastic location, it was spotlessly clean. Plenty of walking from outside the cottage. There are a few low beams but only an issue if you are over six foot tall.

  • We really enjoyed our stay at Kewhow. The cottage was plenty big enough for the two of us. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils and pans, as well as the breakfast food. We loved the cozy fire, the bath and the towels were great too. The bedroom was spacious and the bed was comfy. And we found there were lots of walking and cycling routes right outside the front door. The neighbours were lovely too. Thanks Sari!

  • A lovely cosy cottage! Beautiful views, close to loads of walks, really comfortable. We enjoyed the fire. The breakfast was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Sari was very friendly and helpful and we knew where she was if we had any issues (we didn't!). Surprisingly spacious too, we had 4 adults staying and there was plenty of room. We really enjoyed our stay.

  • A very nice and comfy cottage, in the best possible location. You can hear the river flowing closely, you even have a garden with barbecues for... sunny days ;-) Spotless clean, the internal organisation of the cottage is optimised so that you don't feel it is pretty tiny. The bed is very comfortable and you have a shower AND a bath tub, which, after a day trekking outside is very much appreciated ! (Oh, and there is a pub 20 meters away :-))

  • Wonderful location, great local pubs, superb walks. We had a wonderful English Christmas.

    Nick2018-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This hidden gem was so worth the journey. Words are inadequate to express how wonderful our stay was at Wastwater . We gathered to celebrate a 90 th Birthday and it was all we had hoped for and more. Thank you so much.

    Sue2018-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wastwater Cottage is part of a beautifully restored 500 year old structure. It is most modern and comfortable, with a large open plan kitchen dining and living area and 4 bedrooms. The description on the site was quite accurate and we found exactly what we expected. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped with a large fridge, and all the mod cons. Greg and his team are warm and wonderful hosts and looked after us. They took a genuine interest in explaining what the area had to offer. We got lost on the way up and they patiently talked us through the route. This is a quiet and seemingly less visited area than Windermere and Grasmere and in that way much nicer. You will find enough to do in the immediate area and so a car is not essential, but if you want to explore the whole of Cumbria then you need your own car. You will also need a car if you want to go to a grocery. There are two inns within a few minutes walk so if you do not want to do your own cooking you will have those options at hand. We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks and would recommend this apartment to anyone, but especially to those who want to go walking or cycling in the countryside; it is truly beautiful.

!! At the moment we are not taking bookings for the next month due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Recently renovated blacksmith's cottage 4 star English tourism rated Private terrace, traditional wood stove Many Lakeland walks from the doorstep 10 mins to local shop, pubs, Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway Now with WiFi!!
There is a private playground for children, a spacious feel due to a mezzanine bedroom, and a new kitchen
  • Spotlessly clean throughout, comfortable beds and sofa and a good shower so all the basics very well catered for! Also very good heating so we didn't even get to use the log burner. Kitchen is also well equipped for cooking. Only note is that if you're planning on having kids use the twin beds on the mezzanine, noise from the living area/kitchen is likely to be an issue if they go to bed earlier as it's semi open.

  • A very clean and cosy place to stay, always very warm and a lovely comfy bed, perfect for relaxing after walks out in the mountains.

    Emily2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location to explore some of the more remote west of Cumbria. The Granary was a perfect little bolt hole for us for a couple of nights. Madonna was a great host, the cottage was clean, tidy, warm and comfortable - huuuge king size bed! All in all had a lovely stay.

    Penelope2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great base from which to explore Scafell Pike and the surrounding lakes. It’s a lovely peaceful setting with great views. The pub is walking distance and is cosy, serving a reasonable standard of pub food. The place itself has most things you need- the kitchen is a little small for doing any real cooking but just about big enough to make a cooked breakfast. Only gripe was that we couldn’t control the heating from within the house and it did get quite chilly, however Madonna was very responsive in getting this sorted.

    Louise2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Very warm welcome to a lovely place to stay. Small but well provided kitchenette and great mezzanine bedroom, with a huge and comfortable bed.

  • The Granary was the most perfect setting for a weekend in the Lake District. Spotlessly clean, cosy and really well equipped, we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay whilst we explored the Lakes. Madonna and Tony were incredibly friendly and accommodating, the communication was excellent and they were the perfect hosts for a perfect stay! Very highly recommended!

    Marcus & Kay2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • This house is perfect! The location is so quiet and the house is full of character and charm. We loved our stay at the granary and would come back to this cosy house in a heartbeat. The local food in nearby pubs was all delicious and so close to Scafell pike as well as other walks, so was a great location! Would recommend this house to anyone and everyone!

    Ben2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend & I stayed at The Granary for 4 nights, and it was absolutely perfect. We would highly recommend staying there, or in any of Madonna's listings. The area is stunning for incredible mountain walking, river, tarn & lake swimming. The Bower House Inn pub is 10 minutes walk away and serves amazing food, we went there every night! Madonna and her family are lovely, she is a great host, friendly, welcoming, relaxed and helpful. We took the wrong path down Scafell Pike and she did not hesitate to help us out by giving us a lift, which was very kind. Thanks again Madonna for having us, we hope to be back some time soon!

A beautiful and tranquil room in an ildyllic barn conversion, located in one of the most stunning valleys of the UNESCO World Heritage National Park - The Lake District. In a peaceful and quiet courtyard, with plenty of private parking, you can use The Stables as a base to explore further afield. With a spacious garden, complete with the local narrow gauge steam railway, “The Ratty” running through the end, our home is a delightful haven away from the hustle and bustle of normal life.
Guests will have their own double bedroom, with full height windows looking out onto the quiet courtyard, and sole use of the downstairs bathroom, with WC & shower. A simple breakfast is provided, along with linen and towels. We are both enthusiastic outdoor people and can certainly recommend the best places to visit and explore. The valley boasts a fantastic narrow gauge steam engine, which stops literally five minutes from our front door! Scafell is also easily accessible from the door, as well as various other natural tarns and walks – a real eclectic mix of nature. There are five pubs, most within walking distance and all within two miles – so you’re certainly spoilt for choice. We do have a rabbit who lives outside (super friendly, but just a word of warning for anyone with a severe allergy)! We really look forward to welcoming you to our home!
  • Great place to use as a base for a visit to this lovely area of the Lakes. Ceara and Chris are a lovely couple who make you feel welcome. Lovely walks and an excellent location for a visit to The Ratty, I can recommend the cream tea at Dalegarth and the food at The Boot Inn

  • Stylish, neat apartment close to the base of Skafell. Anything you need within a short drive.

    Dominic2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice place. Modern and very clean with well stocked kitchen and other nice amenities and touches. Only issue was with a area of damp on the corner of the bedroom wall. The wall became wet to touch making sleeping in the bed uncomfortable for myself.

  • Great views, lovely place. Spotless. Would highly recommend.

    Lisa2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • The apartment was homely and well furnished throughout with a kitchen that had all major conveniences. The views were incredible and location was perfect for my needs. Will consider again if I stay in the Lakes once more!

  • Perfect location for visiting Scafell and the Southern fells. The views from the apartment were stunning! Scafell View had everything we needed for our stay and the hamper was a lovely touch. The apartment was clean and homely. Would certainly return.

  • Lovely two bed apartment overlooking Scafell Pike. Cosy space, with Netflix and WiFi which we weren’t expecting. Great getaway place. Thank you

    Rebecca2019-10-29T00:00:00Z
  • My Husband and I came to Scafell View for our Mini Moon and we had such a wonderful time! The apartment is so homely, cosy and really warm! The views from every window are so beautiful, you can see mountains all around you and it’s such a peaceful location. Fantastic walks as well, Wast Water is so close by! The apartment has everything you need including a washing machine and places to dry clothes which was super handy for us as we were at the end of a road trip so we needed some clean clothes! I highly recommend Sharon’s place, we will be back :)

The Bothy is a quirky detached building offering cosy comfortable "upside down" self catering accommodation for two people. An enclosed private garden surrounds the Bothy and there are spectacular views of Scafell Pike.
Woodend Bothy is quite remote and situated in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. From the car park, stone steps lead up to a gate and the front door. You enter into the combined lounge / dining / kitchen area with views towards Scafell Pike. Open plan wooden steps lead down to the bedroom, which has stone walls and oak beams. A door leads from the bedroom to the bathroom which has a traditional slipper bath, hand basin and WC. Located quite high on Birker Fell (950') and approached from the fell along a single track road through a gate, it has fantastic views across the fell towards Scafell Pike, (Englands's highest mountain), and is a ten minute walk from one of the smaller of the lakes, Devoke Water, which never the less is nearly a mile long. The kitchen and garden have incredible views towards Scafell Pike, Bow Fell and Crinkle Craggs. Within twenty minutes walking you can be at the top of Devoke Seat where, on a clear day, you have a 360 degree panoramic view that includes Devoke Water, the Langdales, the coast and the Isle of Man.
We are situated 3 miles from both the Eskdale Valley and the Duddon Valley and conveniently situated for Ulpha, Seathwaite, Broughton-in-Furness and Boot. There are several dog friendly pubs and plenty of walking and sightseeing. There are details of places to visit on our website.
  • Managed to find the Bothy with ease due to great directions. On arrival accomodation was clean and tidy and just what we were looking for to get away from it all for a few days. Even with snow, wind and rain its a beautiful location. Managed to get out and cycle over Hardknott pass which was only 10 miles away, after a break in the weather. We will definitely be staying again.

  • Really cosy week in the bothy despite very stormy February weather! It's a wonderful warm space with a lot of heart & character. Great isolated location on top of a windswept moorland plateau not far from Wasdale/other fells! Thoroughly recommend the Bothy (and all of the many nearby pubs too!)

    James2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here- we can’t recommend it more!! A perfect get away from the city.

    Jennifer2020-01-24T00:00:00Z

  • The place is located in a prime location. You can hardly get a better balance between Glamping and isolation. It was better, bigger and more comfortable than expected. The price is very fair, and Caroline’s communication is excellent. A perfect retreat for a couple, friends or a small family. Thanks again !

  • Thank you for the warm welcome, local advice and the unforgettable memories that our family and friends now cherish. The cottage is full of character, and the location is idyllic. Great scenery, walks and country pubs are all on the doorstep. We enjoyed getting away from it all and missed the cottage and lifestyle the second we left. Every effort was made to make our stay as comfortable as possible, and we would love to return soon.

  • House is very history, because the geographical relationship is more suitable for car owners. Driving to Lake Windermere is not far away. Next to the house is the walking path along the cliff, it is suitable for walking enthusiasts. There are two restaurants nearby, one is boot inn, one is brook house. The two taste is very good, but I personally prefer boot inn I rented the range rover to puncture in the mountains, housekeeper Sturt and their manager give great help to thank them. recommend!

    Scott2017-07-26T00:00:00Z
  • Some friends and I have just spent the weekend at this cottage in Boot. We had the most lovely weekend and the cottage is amazing! Very clean and tidy. There is also lots to explore in the area. Would definitely stay there again if I find myself in Boot. Thanks Greg! Courtney

  • We could not believe the location and how comfortable and cosy the Buttery was. The hosts were always available for local advice on everything from the weather to safety tips for getting around. The information pack and the directions they provided were very detailed and we used them for just about everything from the stove to the nearest petrol station. It was invaluable! Highly recommend Woodend Buttery! Just remember to stock up on provisions before you get there as the nearest shop is a fair distance away :)

  • We stayed in the Buttery at Woodend and absolutely loved our stay. The Buttery is small but perfectly formed. The living room / kitchen is really cosy with the wood burning stove, the bed is very comfortable and the roll top bath was a lovely surprise. We would highly recommend a visit.

    Sarah2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing location! The scenery on your doorstep is breathtaking. We really enjoyed our stay, just the relaxing break we needed.

    Helen2019-12-04T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location for 3 days escaping in the Lakes! There are 4 cottages on the site but we rarely saw anyone and it felt wonderful and remote. The Buttery is perfect to get cosy by the wood burner after a days walking. The local tips meant we had 2 great meals out and the well equipped kitchen meant we could prepare breakfast and dinner too. We didn’t even need the car one day due to the route recommended down to the falls. 3 nights was not enough and we’re already planning our next trip!

This very special detached cottage is in a breathtaking location with wonderful mountain views all around. It's just you, the sheep, some skylarks, the High Ground hare and the fells, with amazing walks from the door - one to a little mountain lake and one to a waterfall. It's perfect for get-away-from- it-all peace and quiet, but with lots to see and do nearby while Lake District favourites are within easy reach. Comfy, spacious and stylish inside, you'll find a library, Sky TV and free wifi.
There is a large farmhouse kitchen with a range cooker, log-burning stove and double doors onto a patio where you can sit and gaze at the mountains. A small sitting room has an open fire, comfy sofas and a desk. The big sitting room is triple aspect, has a TV with Sky and DVD player, and glass doors with mountain views onto the patio. With a wall of books you'll have plenty to read too. A big, easy-pull-out Ikea sofabed makes it a fifth bedroom when needed. Upstairs the bedrooms are light and airy, with three of the four bedrooms double aspect. There are amazing views from just about every window.
High Ground Cottage is in the Lake District National Park and has some of the most dramatic scenery in the Park. However, it is away from the crowded 'honeypot' centres and is also within easy reach of the coast which offers wide, sandy beaches. The scenery is mountains and valleys with sheep grazing - very beautiful, with wonderful walking. Near the cottage are some wonderful things to see and do - including the Owl Sanctuary at Muncaster Castle, L'aal Ratty, the little steam train that runs to the cost from Eskdale, and the Cumbrian Heavy Horses Centre near Millom. Coniston Water and Beatrix Potter's Hilltop Farm are an easy drive. The little local market town of Broughton-in-Furness has some terrific food shops with excellent local produce, and the area has several old inns that are family-friendly and serve very good food.

A cosy and characterful 2 bedroom mid terraced cottage in a remote location in the Duddon Valley. The cottage is the perfect place to ‘get away from it all’ and enjoy the surrounding nature. There are beautiful walks from the door including high fells and the ancient woodlands the Duddon Valley is so well known for. Stunning views in every direction and a one mile walk to the the pub.
The cottage is old and full of character. It retains mainly original features including beams, low doorways and flagged floors. It is cosy, comfortable and warm. There are internal steps, uneven flags in the kitchen and a relatively steep and narrow staircase. The bathroom is upstairs. There is a well equipped kitchen, plenty of storage and a log burner in the sitting room (starter pack of wood and coal is included). Heating is by electric radiators and the bathroom has a heated towel rail. Outside is a small enclosed garden and the garage has a washing machine and a table tennis table.
The Duddon Valley is a unique part of the Lake District landscape. It is quiet and unfrequented. The cottage is a hundred yards from the Walna Scar road with the Coniston fells being easily accessed for seasoned walkers. The Duddon fells are to the south and Eskdale with the La’al Ratty being to the west. The area is wonderful for cyclists, walkers, climbers and those wanting to get away from it all.

More tourist information, Railway timetables and things to do are also available in the house.
  • Hollowmire was the perfect place for a New Year stay, and a chance to recover from Christmas! The house was warm, clean and very well-equipped, and we enjoyed the open fire on cold evenings. We already know Eskdale well, but enjoyed the chance to renew our acquaintance with La'al Ratty, which was running over the festive season. Visits to the Brook House Inn and to the King George IV were also enjoyable. We strongly recommend this property to potential visitors to this lovely part of the country.

My place is situated in the heart of the Duddon Valley in South Cumbria. It is a beautiful valley that lends itself to walking, cycling, canoeing and rock climbing amongst other things. We are a newly renovated Bed and Breakfast that offers a stunning location and views. The room has a super king sized bed or can be converted into a twin room depending on your requirements. We have 2 other rooms under separate listings. There are no pets on the premises.
The room has a super King size double bed but it can also be used as a twin room depending on your requirements. The room has an en-suite toilet/shower, Sky freeview box, DVD player, tea and coffee making facilities and complementary dressing gown and slippers for use during your stay.
The valley does not have any tourist attractions therefore is the perfect place for a quiet retreat. On some walks you my not see another person all day.
  • Very much enjoyed my stay at the Travellers' Lodge. Alwyn and Peter are great hosts: nothing was too much trouble for them. They have excellent local knowledge, the room was immaculate and very comfortable and a breakfast fit for a king. Great value and lovely people. Thank you.

    Emily2020-01-23T00:00:00Z
  • Peter's cottage was absolutely beyond our expectations. The cottage is reclused in the middle of nowhere - nestled and surrounded by amazing beauty no matter what the weather plays out to be. The home is very toasty with great heating system, an absolutely huge lounge with windows on all sides with great views - perfect for nice evening by the fire with family and friends. He has a folder with all the needed information on how to use the Aga cooker, local walks & pubs, and even recommended walks further out of Eskdale. I'd highly recommend an early hike up the mountain just behind the home to watch the sunrise. Overall, we had an amazing time at Peter's house and would come back 10 times over!

The kitchen area is lovely & there is a really good supply of crockery, cutlery, saucepans etc. for a party of 8. The sitting room is light and roomy and all the bedrooms are a good size. The information the owners have put together for the house are comprehensive, as are the notes about places of interest, local shops, pubs etc. The garden is big, lots of space for children and/or dogs to run about in reasonably safely. Out spaniel puppy loved the little stream!

  • What an amazing place to stay Brantrake House is! From the moment we pulled up on the driveway we were in awe of the house and it’s location. Views upon views, beautiful enclosed garden which our dogs LOVED, very well appointed kitchen diner and a super cosy living room to get snuggled up in late at night. We were very lucky with the weather while we were there and barely saw a cloud for 4.5 days meaning that most of the time we spent at the house was in the garden using the provided BBQ and soaking in the incredible views. We watched some unbelievable sunsets laid on the grass. The feeling of luxurious isolation was second to none and we’ll definitely be going back! There’s plenty to do and see around the house without having to travel far. In fact, just walk out of the back gate and up the crag behind the house for incredible 360° views across to the sea on one side and the western fells on the other. Some lovely local pubs (Bower House Inn, Boot Inn, Woolpack all very nice!) All in all an incredible stay! Thank you Peter!

  • Yet again a really lovely stay at Brantrake House. Fantastic area, lovely warm house, cuckoos, red squirrels and all sorts of other wildlife. The garden is beautiful. Would highly recommend a stay here.

    Lorna2019-05-10T00:00:00Z
  • Brantrake House has the wow factor from the moment you pull into the drive and see the garden for the first time. On entering through the wonderful front door with its additional vertical glass side windows the grand hallway exceeded my expectations. We were all blown away by the entire property with each new room we discovered. The rear double doors at first floor level offer fantastic access to the rear garden and the fell beyond. There is quite simply nothing not to like. We stayed for only a long weekend and wished we had booked for longer as we only touched on some of the things we wanted to do in the area. Sitting in the front garden and listening to the whistle from the Ravenglass to Eskdale railway steam trains was lovely and I highly recommend a trip on one of these great little trains. We will definitely book again soon to tackle those fells we didn’t do this time and perhaps visit Muncaster Castle next time too.

  • Wow, where do I start? This was the most last minute holiday I've *ever* booked, but from start to finish Caroline was an absolute star. Super communicative host, absolutely immaculate accommodation in beautiful surroundings. Warm and cosy, well equipped and super comfy beds. And if you're a stargazer you'll be in heaven here! Loved our stay, highly recommended, thank you Caroline and family!xx

  • An excellent place to stay at the foot of Hardknott pass- great pub on the doorstep and fantastic hillwalking at Eskdale / Wasdale. The rooms are cosy warm , spotlessly clean and with an amazing shower. We just brought cereals for breakfast and ate out, but with a gas stove in warmer weather you could easily cook on the well equipped porch. Internet didn't quite stretch to the room- only to the porch, but to be honest that was a blessing. Will stay again and recommend this to any families that enjoy the outdoors and don't mind all benign the same room at night. Very friendly helpful hosts with advice on best routes for walks / climbs.

  • Booked for location as the huts are close to Scafelll, found the accommodation excellent. Would highly recommend.

  • Fantastic family getaway - photographs don’t do this place justice. Super clean, more than enough room for a family of three, the rooms weren’t stuffy at all, slept like a baby the outdoor space was perfect. Would return and recommend!

    Kate2018-08-08T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great option to stay in the Lake District. Perfect balance of tranquility but enough around. Set in the Eskdale valley, the lodges are a a high end glamping option, all brand new and a good standard. There’s a pub / cafe next door and two more in the vicinity about a 20 minute walk away. The staff are really helpful and friendly. We rented bikes which were good value and routes were offered by the staff. There’s a rock pool / stream about a 10 minute walk away which was fun to dip in! Overall this place is highly recommended and I would stay again.

Ain House Bothy - New for 2020
The Bothy is a single storey detached stone building with a private lawn area. It has uninterrupted views southwards to Muncaster Fell. The Bothy is a refurbished building blending the old world charm of open beams and slate floors with modern accents like partial underfloor heating and a modern kitchen. There is a log burner in the living room. The bedroom has beautiful views over the adjacent fields - (you may find cattle at your window!) and beyond to Muncaster and Birker Fells. Ain House has an on-site wood and easy access to Irton Fell to the north with paths onto Illgill Head where there are tremendous views into Wasdale and towards the Scafell. There is a small slate patio and adjacent parking.
Ain House and cottages are set back about 300m from Bowerhouse Bank off their own drive. The buildings sit against the backdrop of Irton Fell and are surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are no other properties visible from the property - it’s remote enough to feel ‘away from it’ but only half a mile or so from two local pubs. Formerly farm buildings and at one time used as a sawmill and timber workshop, the main house has been extended and refurbished by the owners. The outbuildings have all been renovated - The Stables, Cartshed and Bothy having been lovingly converted and a pre-existing cottage also having been fully gutted and redeveloped. The owners are constantly improving the premises and projects particularly to improve the external areas are ongoing but will not detrimentally impact on your stay.

  • This is the third year in a row that we have rented Irt Cottage and it never disappoints. This year was for a late christmas weekend with friends and it was like christmas all over again, nice and cosy with the log fire on.

  • Irt Cottage is the perfect get-away-from-it-all place - Wast Water, which is just up the road, is stunning & Scarfell Pike is just beyond that. We had our dogs with us and there are great local walks. The cottage had everything we needed, was cosy and warm - Kirsten couldn’t have been more helpful and I highly recommend it!

Three lovely Holiday Lodges set in an acre of ancient orchard, right in the heart of Eskdale, one of the quieter and most beautiful valleys in the Lake District. With a large sunny outdoor area and fantastic views of the surrounding fells, Fisherground is an ideal base for exploring the beautiful mountains, rivers and lakes in the area. Games room. Rafting pond. Wonderful walks straight from the door, pet friendly, short walk to the local pubs.
Each lodge has a lovely big sitting room, with Freesat HDTV and a wood burning stove. The kitchen and dining areas open off this, the kitchen is fully fitted with an electric fan oven, four ring hob, microwave oven, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment and all the usual utensils and crockery. There are three bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with twin beds and one with a set of adult sized bunks. The bathroom has WC, washbasin and bath/shower. Heating is by electric panel heaters throughout and a wood burning stove in the lounge, keeping the lodge toasty and warm whatever the season.
The River Esk runs close by, with tumbling waterfalls and magnificent clear pools to swim in. For the more adventurous, we have links with the local lake district outdoor activity specialist and can help you organise guided walks, rock climbing, ghyll scrambling, kayaking etc. The famous Ravenglass & Eskdale Miniature Railway runs along the valley, its steam trains making the leisurely seven-mile journey down to Ravenglass a picturesque old fishing village with a ruined Roman bath house and Muncaster Castle nearby. Scafell Pike, Englands highest mountain can be climbed from Eskdale. There are five good pubs in the Eskdale Valley, the King George is just a few minutes walk away, all serve good food and ales and welcome children and dogs.
  • Had a very relaxing stay with my parents and their dog in one of the lodges. The cosy wood burner kept us warm in the evenings and there were plenty of local tips for walks and good pubs. The lodges were so modern and clean, would definitely recommend them. Very easy check in/out process too with key safe. Excellent hosts.

  • My friends and I spent a few days at Peters Lodge exploring the Lake District. Our trip was made easier and more enjoyable by Peters fast response time and helpful tips when it came to the surrounding area. The place itself was just as it looked in the photos, and made a lovely rest stop in between climbing the surrounding mountains. Not to mention the log fire being a great addition and something to look forward to after being out and about in the snow, rain and harsh wind! Would definitely stay again, hopefully next time when there’s not a storm blowing through the valleys!

Stairs lead from the lounge to a landing, off which there are the three bedrooms. The master is a double, the second can be configured as either a double or a twin (please confirm when booking how you would like it set up) and the third is a twin. There is also a bathroom. Most rooms have exposed beams and all are furnished with care and thought. Located quite high on Birker Fell (950') and approached from the fell along a single track road through a gate, it has fantastic views across the fell towards Scafell Pike, (England's highest mountain), and is a ten minute walk from one of the smaller of the lakes, Devoke Water, which never the less is nearly a mile long.

  • Beautiful place, tastefully done, very picturesque & SUPER HOSTS. Definitely recommended. Initially it feels like the place is located in the middle of nowhere but that is what makes you fall in love with it even more. There is so much to explore everywhere, in the house, in the Woodend cottage compound, nearby that you should definitely allocate time to absorb the feel of the place. We were awestruck by the attention to detail that has been paid to make this cottage so comfortable & lovely. The french windows, the views from the cottage, OMG! Do go through the information/welcome booklet provided & am sure like us you'll make changes to your itinerary. If I get the chance to visit Lake District again, I know where I am going to stay. Special cheer for Paul & Jella :)

It's surrounded by peaceful and quiet green farms, with absolutely no light pollution at night. The schoolhouse cottage where we stayed at has a lovely and authentic feel of the countryside, and the old-fashioned interaction of a iron cast log fire where wood and coal keeps you warm was nice to use. Sky TV, books, DVDs, and pots plus pans come with the place so we were able to wind down and cook after a long day of hiking. You can buy the local farm eggs too. Paul and Gella were very friendly and always available, giving us information for our hikes too. You are able to park your car here too. We shall come in the summer as we thoroughly enjoyed the cosy experience of the countryside!

  • We had a cracking time and the cottage was even better than the pictures! The nearby lake was stunning, even despite the weather and we loved the greenhouse which was like a huge porch! Ideal for cleaning up the dog after a long walk. Would definitely stay again!

  • We had a great stay in a super remote location on Birker Fell with all the attractions of Eskdale a few miles away. Walks direct from the house and a lovely stone cottage that has all you need including Sky tv, movies and sport. Recommended.

  • Had a great week staying in the old school house, great amenities, everything you need for a little get away. Paul and Jella were great hosts, sorting out the hot water straight away after it wasn’t getting very warm on the first day. Perfect place to get away from it all.
