  • Fantastic spot. Got all you could ask for. Great views of the river

  • The Mulgrave River was an idyllic setting for an Air BnB. Breath-taking views surround you from every room. To top it off, Yvette was an incredible host. Gracious, generous, kind, and knowledgeable with an acuity for meeting the needs of people away from home. Thoughtful touches abound, including little nightlights to guide you on your midnight trip to the toilet. She had a wealth of knowledge about the area and provided an excellent itinerary for our family. To name just a few easy highlights, we visited Milla Milla Falls, Zillie Falls, Babinda Boulders, Josephine Falls and the Curtain Fig Tree on our drive through the Tablelands. We also saw Lake Eacham, which has a 1.5 km Childrens Walk and a longer 3 km walk around the lake. All sights are world-class destinations worthy of great expense, yet are free to enjoy. We planned to do the Frankland Island snorkeling cruise, which is a 5-minute walk from the Mulgrave River Boat House. Highly recommend the snorkeling tour...and you receive a discount for mentioning Yvettes place! It was pouring rain the day we went for our trip and Yvette very kindly drove to pick us up! Her dear husband Rick also drove to meet us with our son’s forgotten jacket. Truly salt of the earth kind of people. We are so grateful for our experience! Thank you Yvette and Rick! Our 8-year old says “They are really nice and if you have problems they’ll help you.” Truer words never spoken. :)

  • Yvette greeted us for check-in with a warm hug and a bottle of wine. She's thought of all the right small touches, like milk for tea, some Ferrero roche (really spoiling us), water chilled in the fridge and even a book on local croc attacks. The accommodation is well placed as a base to explore the local watering holes (go to Josephine Falls and Babina Boulders), Cairns and the Frankland islands. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at Yvettes again!

  • Spotlessly clean, well equipped, comfy bed, aircon and fans. Beautiful location and handy to Frankland Island tour operator. Very friendly and knowledgeable host.

  • If you want nice relaxing place to stay then this is it! Beautiful location next to Mulgrave river, I could sit all day out on the balcony and watch the boats go past. The Boat house is very spacious, comfy place. It has a great kitchen with everything you need to cook a meal and even a coffee machine for those morning coffees. The place is very clean and tidy, with those nice little touchers, such a travel guide, game boards, cooler bag, freezer blocks and picnic glasses, if you go for a picnic or day trip. Wine and chocolate on arrive! The place also had wifi and a smart TV in it, including Netflix, which is an extra bonus! Good for when you want to watch a Movie at night once the sunsets. This place is close to local attractions such as Babinda boulders, Josephine waterfalls, Paronella park (Must see!!), Lake Eacham and lots more. Communication between Yvette was great, quick response. We had an issue with hot water and they fix it within seconds. Yvette and Rick are very friendly and helpful couple, especially with suggestions for day trips and good local places to eat (Babinda kool spot café is a must). I have stayed at a few Airbnb places in Cairns over the years and this is the top one so far, I would defiantly recommend a stay here.

Wild Ginger is a boutique property, with the highest quality linen, facilities, including high speed internet. Your host, Naomi, lives on the property in an adjoining granny flat. She is often away and is very unobtrusive, respecting your privacy at all times but available for advice or assistance at anytime. However if you prefer to have the place entirely to yourself, at an extra charge of $50 A night you can have the key to the gate and complete privacy. This 50 acres of untouched rainforest, seamlessly shares the boundary of a huge national park which encompasses Mt Bellenden Ker and its catchment area. The creek flowing past the house and the larger one a short walk away, have the purest water on Earth. From late October through to April, the beaches in North Queensland are off limits due to deadly box jellyfish and are intolerably hot as well. This is when Wild Ginger is at its finest, the coolness of the lush jungle and the swimming holes at a perfect temperature for swimming all day! Walk the jungle track to the larger second creek on the property and explore the ancient waterfalls and swimming holes and bathe under cascades and natural spas. Ancient figs full of orchids, ferns and birds nest ferns spread their twisting buttress roots around the mossy boulders. Platypus live in the clear pools along with forest dragons and vibrant butterflies while fluorescent dragonflies skim the dancing water. You will have a vast area of crocodile free, completely private streams and jungle all to yourself. If you are fit and the weather is fine you can rock hop for hours up the creek into a truly untouched paradise which is inaccessible to anyone else. On a clear night you might like to build a bonfire on the creek bank and cook food over the coals while enjoying the forest at night. The charming little town of Babinda is nearby where a supermarket, bakery, butcher, newsagent, craft shop, movie theater, hospital, doctor, pharmacy, two pubs, cafes and restaurants are available. A few minutes down the road is the Bellenden Ker boat ramp. Bring your own boat or hire one locally and explore the wild stretches of the twin rivers, (The Mulgrave and The Russell) and visit the small beach community of Russell Heads. Take a day trip on Frankland Island Cruises, up the jungle clad river to an uninhabited tropical Island where you can swim from a white sandy beach and snorkel the fantastic coral fringing reef, admire the fish and cavort with giant turtles. Lunch is provided and all gear. Go on a Snapping Tours trip down the river at Innisfail and see crocodiles. Visit the Mamu Canopy Walk, skydive at Innisfail or go white water rafting. You are an hour closer than Cairns to the rafting location on the Tully River. There are too many nearby attractions to mention, including Behana Gorge, The Boulders, Josephine Falls, The Sugar Museum, Paronella Park and and so much more! It is a twenty minute drive to both the Gillies and the Palmerston Highway making Wild Ginger a great base to explore the Atherton Tablelands. Beautiful Mission Beach is an hour's drive away. Bramston Beach is the closest beach, with picturesque Etty Bay a little further south where you are certain to see the resident cassowaries. Etty Bay is close to the nearest large town which is the green and pretty Innisfail in its river setting. Most of the natural wonders for which North Queensland is famous, are in the southern sector of the Cairns region; yet there is very little accommodation available in the area. Wild Ginger Rainforest Retreat is truly a hidden paradise where you can sleep with nothing but the music of the creek and the forest and be immersed in nature. There is no public transport so you will need your own vehicle. The property is an easy 1km from the Bruce Highway and has a good road. Wild Ginger is not suitable for children under 6.
This is a peaceful rural area, always green and lush with the mountains in the background. Sugar cane fields full of waving flower stalks move in the wind. Beautiful creeks and waterfalls bisect the countryside and small, friendly country towns and roadside pubs dot the region. The area has a higher rainfall than Cairns.
  • The location is everything with this place. A true haven and very peaceful and relaxing. It is completely away from everyone and everything. The house is well appointed and has everything that you need. Naomi was very easy to communicate with both via emails and in person and helpfully showed us things on our arrival. Although Naomi lives next door, she completely respects your privacy and when she was there we didn’t see her at all. We would not hesitate to recommend this place. It is a must if you want to truly escape from it all.

    Bruce2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The place is amazing, its truly will be the highlight of the trip for anyone staying! Naomi is a perfect host, always ready to help and was so lovely meeting her and enjoying her hospitality! Looking forward to come back, missing the place already!

  • Place was really great. A beautiful part of the world. If you're not familiar with north Queensland, it's a must. Endless rainforest and swimming holes to enjoy and hike through.

    Michael2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Magical. If you’re considering booking, just do it. It’s easily the best place I’ve ever stayed.

  • My partner and I had the most amazing stay at Naomis. We spent New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and the following day at the beautiful Wild Ginger Retreat. The space itself is incredible, so romantic and secluded. Apart from the amazing retreat itself the private rainforest is gorgeous, we went swimming in the two spots recommended every day. We actually hardly left the wild ginger retreat while we were there except to visit Babinda to go to the bakery. The drive from Cairns to Bellenden Ker was beautiful. We can’t recommend this place enough, it would be great for a honeymoon destination as it is so secluded and romantic. Thanks Naomi for having us, we hope to return in the future and we have recommended it to al our friends xx

    Jessie2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Naomi’s place for a week and absolutely loved every minute of it. The house is very clean, comfortable and has everything a family would need. The nature, wildlife and the creeks that surrounds it takes one’s breath away. Naomi is a private but very friendly host. Any queries were answered promptly. If you have a chance for Naomi to cook for you - take it with both hands! We will definitely be back!

    Sanja2019-12-18T00:00:00Z
  • Honestly just perfect. We spent the first 3 days on our honeymoon here and could not have chosen a better spot. We spent a whole day hiking & swimming along nearby Harvey Creek, which was absolutely spectacular and completely untouched & private; highly recommended! The house was gorgeous, clean & stylish with plenty of space. Our best Airbnb stay so far!

Lazell's Eco Retreat is located south of Cairns, QLD, Australia, set on 50 acres of Rainforest. We’re just fifteen minutes from the pristine Babinda Boulders and the famous Babinda Bakery. This is our private paradise, we make our own electricity which is banked in batteries, have glorious rain water for usage only so come and join us for peace and quite, kick off your shoes, gaze at the night stars, read, relax, breathe, nap.... Free Wi-Fi is available.
Our house is very modern and clean. It was built in 2017. 2 storey, open plan living with private decking areas and large grounds. We have BBQ facilities on the main deck for use, however kitchen can be used. We are a Eco friendly house, which means we make our own power and bank it in batteries. Our only source of water is glorious rain water.
Babinda is framed by Queensland’s two highest mountains, Mt Bartle Frere (1622m), and Mt Bellenden Ker (1593m), which gets an average 10-12 metres of rain each year. The rural township subsequently boasts the highest rainfall in Australia, with average rainfall in excess of 4m. Here some of the region’s most challenging and rewarding trails cross this rugged World Heritage area. Take a dip in the cool mountain water of the Babinda Boulders, this pretty reserve has a picnic area, safe swimming area, campground and signposted walks. Downstream the creek settles to offer a unique experience to swim or kayak in the clear waters with sandy beaches to spot fish, turtles and even platypus. In the Babinda township itself you will find Art Deco buildings, an historic hotel, friendly shops and services as well as the Babinda Information Centre. The Babinda Air Raid Shelter is Queensland’s most intact World War 2 public air raid shelter and now serves as a brightly painted toilet block. The heritage-listed Babinda State Hotel was built from rainforest timbers in 1917 by the Queensland Government. Also we have the famous Babinda Bakery with their cream buns!!!!!
  • Deb and David are the best Air BNB hosts we have ever had the privilege to stay with. Their house was phenomenal and so were Charlie and Ziggy (the dogs). We were able to find it pretty easy and felt so comfortable with our hosts. We felt like actual company and not just paying guests. The views are stunning especially when the sun rises (didn’t have a chance to see the sunset due to timing and clouds). The bathroom was a little slice of paradise with the two shower options. We would 100% recommend staying here for your adventures.

    Kari2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • We were the first guests of Deb & Dave and can absolutely recommend this place! Lovely people lovely dog Charlie and just an incredible place and experience in the nature! They have a big garden, you feel like in paradise!

Hemingway’s on the Hill is a rustic private indulgence. Set high on the hill, bearing witness to the best of rural life. Cows graze paddocks, and flocks of birds fly overhead. Life is everywhere. Curated by Interior Designer Fifi. She wrote a story for the life to be lived in the space. Like the great man himself, thoughtful yet spare enough with surprises of artful collection. We escaped the city 15 years ago. We found a better life. Come and stay and write your own love story.
Hemingway's on the Hill is a self contained cottage with wonderful views. Private, set in its own garden room. Outdoor bath, fire pit, gorgeous luxurious linen and comfortable bed and furniture. • From the photos and other reviews we knew Hemingway’s was something a bit special, and we were not disappointed. We loved our 2 night stay. Even though it was pretty rainy we had a lovely time. The super comfortable and intimate space meant we didn’t mind snuggling inside one little bit. The rain stopped long enough for us to watch a sunset with a glass of wine from the gorgeous outdoor bath. We’ll be back for sure.

  • This place makes me sorry I’ve given other 5-star ratings because it sent a new benchmark. What an amazing place to stay! The place is beautifully designed (not just aesthetically - and that is absolutely great), but to provide everything you could possibly need to have an incredibly comfortable stay. From the surprising very generous locally sourced items, to wonderful and fun comfort features like an outdoor deep stone tub and fire place, and providing local tips and all sorts of extra’s to enable you to fully enjoy them - we couldn’t believe how incredibly wonderful it was. We planned initially for 2 days, but decided as soon as we got there to change that to a 4 day stay. It’s the perfect spot from which to explore all of the Atherton Tablelands. Fifi was a perfect host - total respect for privacy, but also frequently checking in to be sure we had everything we needed - and offering more! I would rate this place a 10 if that were possible!

    Nancy2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most wonderful weekend staying here! The location is stunning and the cottage is so homely full of beautiful touches. Will come back for sure one day!

  • This was our second visit to Hemingway’s and it did not disappoint. A perfect getaway and escape from the stress and bustle of everyday life. The location is outstanding and Fifi has thought of every little touch to make the stay extra special. My favourite bath of all time:) Thanks for everything.

    Lindsay2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The cutest little cottage in a great location. Fifi was great to communicate with and made our stay very special. Thank you! We hope to be back one day soon.

  • Hemingway's on the Hill is just absolutely glorious ! Thank you Fifi for your enormous generosity and talent in making this little cottage so supremely beautiful and enchanting.

The cool, elevated green and brown mountains behind Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef are part rainforest, part outback, and 100% Australia. The hospitality of the locals, the dramatic beauty of the ever-changing landscape, the captivating wildlife and the spirit of this place will stay in your heart long after you return home. There is so much to see and do here, so plan to spend one or two weeks discovering all there is to explore in these fascinating tropical plateaux. The Cairns Highlands covers an area extending from the villages of Julatten and Kuranda in the north, to the outback town of Chillagoe in the west and south to Ravenshoe and Mt Garnet. It is made up of the Evelyn, Hann and Atherton Tablelands, hence its local name of the Tablelands.

  • We were so surprised that James’ cottage was available when we wanted it, it’s normally booked out! But we were delighted it was ours for the weekend! And what a wonderful weekend we had using the cottage as our base. First of all, you’ll notice the cleanliness. It is amazingly, scrupulously, stunningly clean. Then you’ll notice the little touches finishing touches and decorations adorning the cottage. It it’s just so welcoming. The temperature dropped quite a bit when we were there, so the fireplace copped a workout! Thank goodness for the supplied kindling and timber! James is easy to contact and very prompt with his replies. Would we stay here again? Definitely!!!

  • Robert’s place is built on top of a hill and the view is stunning. It is a beautiful very quiet spot and the only thing you hear is the sound of the birds in the morning. So it’s a great place to calm down. There is mostly a nice breeze so even on warm days we could have all our meals at the patio. Atherton and Yungaburra are not far if you have to go shopping or need some entertainment. We spent a whole week there and loved it.

We could not recommend it highly enough - the cabin is perfectly located near Malanda, and has its own private deck with views overlooking the rainforest, with sounds from the creek below. The space is inviting, warm, and made for relaxing. The fridge was thoughtful stocked with everything you would need for breakfast, as well as some treats as well. • Absolutely beautiful cabin, very comfortable and luxuriously appointed , with a completely equipped kitchen , large bath with soaker tub and shower, comfortable bed , great wifi, TV with Netflix. There is a large veranda with a small Webber BBQ, where we had all our meals while listening to the birds and , lucky us , while observing a tree Lumholtz kangaroo mum with her Joey leisurely eating in a tree not far for our veranda. John and Pam are wonderful hosts , they provided a large number of goodies for us , including farm eggs, yoghurt , milk and cream , coffee ,fresh fruit and granola. John also shared some of his wonderful baking ( carrot cake and orange cake ) and kindly invited us for a great espresso/ cappuccino . The cabin is spotlessly clean and surrounded by the most wonderful gardens and forest. We sincerely didn’t want to leave! It is truly magical, thank you John and Pam for hosting us and for being some the best hosts we have ever encountered!

  • My wife and I had a great weekend away. John was prompt in his replies to our questions and he and his wife were great hosts. It was so relaxing sitting on the deck listening to the wildlife and the river. The spa was amazing and looked out onto all the trees and felt very private. It was only a short walk to the swimming holes which was great too. The best thing was all the little touches; local produce, access to their garden etc. We would definitely come back and would recommend staying here to all.

    Andrew2018-05-07T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in Malanda. The stylish B&B was exactly as described in a beautiful river setting. Our hosts provided us with everything a 5 star hotel suite would have & more. There was a huge soaking tub, fresh fruit, a comfortable bed, fresh flowers & tons more awesome extras. Charlie, the beautiful black border collie reminded us of home & was so friendly. We definitely recommend this B&B!

  • Hi Eve, Thank you again for letting us share you lovely home. We all had a great time on the lake with our family and friends. We particularly appreciated the layout of the house with the bedrooms down the hallway along with the areas quiet surroundings after each action packed day. Merry Christmas from the Symons Family.

  • A great spot to relax and unwind. A big house and very private. Lake frontage is beautiful and the deck is perfect for afternoon drinks. We used the canoe and had a blast. Loved visiting all of the swimming spots and waterfalls in the area an amazing part of the world and must see!

  • Our stay was just amazing; the view was breathtaking (we had a fog over the lake one morning which was magical), the little touches were great, particularly the canoe and the many comfy blankets everywhere (was a little cooler when we were there so they were perfect for relaxing on the deck). Thank you Eve, wish we stayed longer!

  • This is a beautiful property in a very special location with wonderful views to the lake. It feels so private and yet is a short drive off the main road. It is very well designed and has a great central entertaining area with adjoining deck when weather is warm, but bedrooms well separated so those early to bed are not disturbed. It is stylish and coulourful, with lots of nice touches. Very cosy in cooler weather with electric blankets and heating. We had a lovely stay there and would happily return.

  • You will absolutely love the house with its private bedrooms, huge relaxing deck and all the thoughtful touches the host provides. It is out of the way but so peaceful and your very own peace of luxury. Loved it.

  • Great place to relax, chill out and enjoy the beautiful surrounds. Eve is a very welcoming host and the house is a cut above the average. The lakefront surrounds are gorgeous. We would like to go back when the weather is fine and paddle about in the canoe.

  • A beautiful timber home with gorgeous views down to the lake. Relaxing and peaceful with all the ammenities you need. A supply of fresh fruit, yoghurt, milk, juice, coffee, tea, cereal, bread and spreads for breakfast was a great touch. Waking up to the beautiful surroundings of the tablelands made for a perfect getaway. Taking the canoe out in the lake was was just the perfect way to watch the sunset each afternoon. We caught 2 fish within half an hour on our small children's fishing lines which was a special treat as we are definitely not keen fishermen! Eve's place is only a short drive to all of the tourist attractions in the area. A great place for anyone wanting to get away and see a beautiful part of North Queensland.
