  • What a brilliant little cottage in a lovely peaceful area, we had the best weekend and our little dog had plenty of places near and far he could explore with us! Hot tub was used a lot and was perfect to end and evening in!

  • Our trip was amazing! The location was great. Very quiet and rural. No light pollution so nights are really dark which we took full advantage of with star gazing from the hot tub. The lodge was stunning a lot better than we expected. Very clean and everything we needed was right there. We really do look forward to making this a regular trip

  • Wonderful relaxing stay. The walk to Cuthberts cave from the front door was a nice surprise. Not too far from Bambrugh and Holy Island approx 15 mins in the car. The cottage itself is beautiful, amazing bed! Louise is extremely helpful and would love to revisit the area again.

    Greg2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cosy hideaway in a beautiful, rural location. St cuthbert’s cave is within walking distance and the cottage is also close to stunning coastlines and the cheviots. Little touches like wine and snacks, toiletries, robes and nespresso coffee machine made the trip extra special. We loved the hot tub and wood fire to warm up after a day of walking. Best of all the cottage is dog friendly so our puppy could join in the fun too!

  • Great place and location!

    James2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully furnished cottage in a rural setting, close to the Cheviots and cost but far from the reach of our mobile phone networks!!! Highly recommended for those wishing to use as a base to explore this wonderful region.

  • Lovely cottage in a quiet and rural area. The cottage was very clean and came with Instructions on how to use various appliances around the house. The house and it’s facilities were great and came with everything you needed (even washing machine and tumble dryer) along with a few nice touches of a bottle of wine and crisps, etc. Louise was very helpful with replies and came round within a few minutes to help with any issues, as well as giving us a map route for a nearby walk. Had a brilliant sleep every night due to how amazingly comfy the bed was and how silent the surrounding areas were. The WiFi however can be a bit temperamental but it’s a good chance to get away from it all and relax Overall had a great stay and couldn’t recommend it more.

    Sofia2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Second time staying here - we loved it the first time and it was just as good the second time around. Loved the hot tub, and all the little extras (like robes, towels, etc) were lovely. Louise was very helpful with a couple of questions we had, with quick responses. Already working out when we can next go back!!

  • Really lovely stay. Highly recommend

    Roisin2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed one night, exactly as described. Although the Shepherd's Hut is behind a house, in a small village, you feel very secluded, very comfortable with scenic views. If you're looking for something simple, rustic and too escape from the busyness of life then James' Shepherd Hut is perfect. Enjoyed our stay, would stay again and highly recommend! Also the assortment hamper was a lovely touch, that made us feel very welcome.

  • Lovely space

    Libby2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Such a lovely, cosy, little place to stay. The hut is clean and tidy and has everything you need to enjoy a few nights away from it all. We would’ve stayed longer if it was possible. Communication from Rob and Jutta was excellent. Location and parking were excellent. We will visit again.

    Jon2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • If you are visiting, stay here. It was absolutely perfect. Rob and Jutta are both so sweet and accommodating, and of course the dogs are adorable. The island is small anyway but this cabin is very well located, right next door to two of I think only three pubs on the island. I usually have very good experiences on Airbnb stays but this was exceptional.

    Angie2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ideally situated in the back garden of Jutta and Robert's house, this place provided us with the peace and quiet we were looking for. The cabin is cosy and very well equipped for a small space. The kitchen area is ideal for self-catering requirements, and the bathroom is clean and warm.

    Noah2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The accomodation is really nice and well kept. The cabin is in a very good condition, looks brand-new. We stayed during a winter storm and it was still very warm and cozy. It's close to the A1, but couldn't hear a thing. The breakfast was really tasty, with plenty of options to choose from.

    David2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Kay was an absolutely amazing host! We were warmly greeted and even presented with cake and Prosecco upon arrival! The cabin is cosy yet modern, is stunningly decorated and has all the amenities you could want. Kay has provided helpful information with regards to the local area, and has some great recommendations. The full English breakfast was out of this world and we were really impressed with all the other options that were available. The effort that has gone into making this an amazing experience is greatly appreciated and we will definitely be returning!! Thanks again!

    Julie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful cottage in a breathtaking setting. We booked this place last minute and can't believe how lucky were to have found this. Jane presented the house beautifully and catered for everything you may need. The log burning fireplace was perfect for our cosy nights in and the surrounding area offers so much to do and see, just a shame our stay was so short. We will definitely look to come back and stay much longer. This is definitely our ideal house!

  • If you've been using AirBnB for awhile then you will really appreciate that this lovely cottage had comfortable beds, real pillows, large fluffy and soft towels and, even more rarely, a set of sharp knives that made cooking in the kitchen so much easier. Add the quiet location, proximity to Holy Island and the Coastal Highway, walks along the grounds of Chillingham Castle and cozy wood-stove fires on wind-swept evenings and it was a great place to stay. Thank you Jane and Amelia.

Loved the wood burner and the kitchen had everything we needed for staying in with a home cooked meal. Great location for day trips, only a couple of miles from the A1, we visited Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Holy Island. Would definitely stay again.

Puffin Place is a great little holiday hideaway set in the historic conservation area of Seahouses and is perfect for couples or small families / groups. The cottage is in a peaceful location but just a minute from the harbour with the Northumbrian Coastal Path just at the end of the lane.
We bought Puffin Place in April 2018 both in order to be able to use the cottage ourselves and hire out to visitors. It takes just an hour to get to from our home in Newcastle, and once there we rarely feel the need to use the car except when we're taking a day-trip to one of the many nearby sites of interest. In the time we have spent in the Seahouses everyone seems very friendly, even by North-East standards. Seahouses is a 'resort village' with something for everyone and is ideally located in the centre of the Northumbria coastline. All the other attractions of the Northumbria coast are within a short drive: to the north (Bamburgh, Lindisfarne and Berwick); to the south (Craster, Beadnell and Embleton) and inland to Alnwick and a multitude of picturesque villages and other attractions. The cottage is tucked away in a quiet location in the oldest part of the village, among the smokeries and fishermen's cottages, but just a few minute's walk from the bustling harbour and the centre of the town. Despite its history - it was built in around 1850 - the cottage has been fully modernised and run as a popular holiday let since 2001.
Puffin Place is is located within a 2 minute walk of the Seahouses village amenities where there's a good range of shops, pubs and restaurants. Guests can take daily boat trips available to the Farne Islands, the home of seals and seabirds and explore the surrounding area filled with wildlife. There are beautiful sandy beaches to the north and south with lots of places of interest just a short journey away. Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island are a short run up the coast and the historic market town of Alnwick along with castle and gardens is a 20 minute drive inland.
  • Lovely cozy cottage set in the heart of town close to anything you might need. Leave the car behind and walk or bus the whole area. Great little base. Many thanks to the owners

Edna's House offers a decent size double room ideal for a couple or single. You're welcome to bring and make your own breakfast. Tiny and remote, Chathill is neatly placed half way between Alnwick and the coast. It has a nearby train station with links to Newcastle for a day's shopping. It is also close to local wedding venues at Ellingham, Newton and Doxford. There is no TV in the house and limited wifi, so staying could be your ideal digital detox. I look forward to welcoming you.
Edna's House is a semi-detached cottage with a small garden. The house also has a little kitchen, sun porch and living room with open fire. You are welcome to make use of the house alongside me. I have an odd work schedule so I'll let you know when I'm going to be around.
Chathill is a lovely quiet village. The neighbours are friendly but not intrusive.
  • Virginia’s house is perfectly located right next to the station so easy to get to by train. Even though Virginia was at work when I arrived I was made to feel very welcome and comfortable. The room was warm and cosy and the bed was comfortable - I slept very well. Virginia also gave me some useful advice about places to eat, taxis and getting the early train. It was really a pleasure to meet Virginia, and I highly recommend her house as a place to stay.

  • This was a perfect place to lay our heads on a long drive from Fife to Norfolk. Virginia's communication was fantastic from start to finish. I felt at home as soon as we walked in the door. I'm only sorry I couldn't have stayed longer.

  • Cosy farmhouse style place in lovely location. Virginia was very friendly and provided everything we needed, along with useful local knowledge. The cottage is next to Chathill station, where some trains pass by, but the noise was not a problem for us. The room was comfortable.

The Bothy is a delightful 19th century listed barn on an old farm. The room is light and airy with stunning views over the Northumberland countryside, between the Cheviots and the Northumberland coast. There is a large garden for visitors use, and dark skies above us. We are an eco friendly family, and the Bothy comes with a composting toilet in a separate wooden shed, and a spring fed water supply just outside the door. Think of it as cosy camping in a stone tent.
All bedding , towels and toilet paper are provided, as well as logs for the fire and woodburner There are electricity sockets for recharging phones and electric kettles. Well behaved dogs are welcome. There are wash bowls and jugs provided. There are tea and coffee making facilities with a cafetiere and teapot.
The area is ideal for skywatchers and nature lovers, there are wide, open, dark skies and we have red squirrels, barn owls, bats, deer, buzzards and kites close by. There is an excellent gastro pub 2 miles away in the village, and delightful shops in Wooler 3 miles away. We are close to Chillingham, Bamburgh and Alnwick castles, and also to Lindisfarne and the Farne Islands. The Cheviots provide a wealth of walks, and we are just off St Cuthberts Way and The Sandstone Way cycle route, so it's an ideal overnight stop.
  • The barn at Fliss’ is the perfect eco camping getaway. If you are travelling up there through the winter months it can get quite cold but Fliss provided us with loads of blankets and hot water bottles and a lovely fire, as a traveller though, use your brains and make sure you pack your own blankets and thermals etc! The barn is super cosy and very big and it only a short 5 minute drive into Wooler! The views are breathtaking! We loved it, thanks Fliss!!

    Declan2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Fliss and Tim were very welcoming and friendly, they gave us clear instructions so the bothy was easy to find. Everything was very clean and they even gave us a kettle full of water and some milk and coffee tea etc, towels and soap were also provided as well as everything to make a fire and they got it set up for us. The toilet was also very clean. It was in a lovely setting- we would love to stay here again

    Emma2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • What a great way to spend a night traveling around the country. The barn was set in an idyllic setting. It was quiet and peaceful. We enjoyed lying in our beds watching the logs burning on the fire. Beds were warm and cozy. All that you needed was all laid out. The bonus was the stunning sunrise over the Cheviot Hills the following morning.

    Frances2019-10-03T00:00:00Z
  • What a gem! After a lovely afternoon exploring Wooler Common and a part of St Cuthbert’s way (literally 10mins away and highly recommended) we arrived at the Bothy following very helpful directions from Fliss. We had a friendly welcome, were shown around and nothing was too much trouble. My children picked delicious apples from the tree and patted the horses over the garden wall (with views to die for!) before exploring the generous gardens and our dog had fun playing with their lovely dog. We were offered hot water bottles and were reassured that if we needed anything just to ask before being happily left to our own devices. A fire was already laid in the Bothy and we made use of the fire pit outside too (sorry for using so many fire lighters!) There were fluffy towels and extra snuggly blanket inside, lovely little touches such as ground coffee and teabags, a stone water jug and basin, handmade soaps and cosy clean bedding. We’re used to Bothys without lights or power so what a treat to have four sockets and plenty of light! If you’re used to camping this is glamping at its finest, if you’re used to luxury hotels then it’ll be a fun back to basics adventure. We can’t wait to return.

  • We weren't able to make it, so this is a review regarding Fliss as a communicator. She was a perfect host in this respect, very fast to respond to all my queries and emails, and I have no doubt our stay would've been great if our whole family hadn't fallen ill with a flu less than 24 hours before we were due to travel. She had prepared everything we needed and I have no regrets booking here. If things had gone differently, I think we'd have had a great time. These things happen!

    Dorothy2019-09-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a great find, great alternative to camping. Lovely fireplace so you can make a fire and heat up the room. Great host too, would definitely recommend staying here!

  • Lovely, comfortable and sparkling clean cottage. Location is great for exploring Northumberland - only 15 min drive from stunning beaches and coastal walks. Belford is pretty and welcoming too - nice pubs and a supermarket just a few minutes walk away. We stayed with our toddler and it was great set up for kids (high chair, plastic kids’ plates, cot, washer/dryer etc). There’s a lovely little playground in Belford too - only 5-10 mins walk away.

Northumberland is fantastic for a few days away and the house is highly highly recommended.

If, like us, you enjoy countryside and coast then Charlie's Place could be the perfect place for you. Our pretty, traditional Northumberland cottage is in the historic village of Belford. The Northumberland Way is on our doorstep and beaches and castles galore are only a few minutes drive away. Our cottage is positioned a couple of minutes stroll from the village centre and has wonderful views of open countryside from the garden. website (Website hidden by Airbnb)
We have been welcoming guests to our lovely cottage for over 10 years and our guest book comments describe it as a 'delightful, home from home', 'welcoming', 'cosy', 'pretty' and somewhere that guests want to return to - which is want we hoped to create when we first found our own special piece of Northumberland to share with others. The lounge is filled with sunshine in the morning and is beautifully cosy at night. We have collected a varied stock of books, games and DVDs for you to explore. Guidebooks and leaflets galore to browse. Our dining table comfortably seats 4 if needed and there is space for a morning coffee in the kitchen - while watching the birds in the garden. The bedrooms offer silent retreats at the end of busy days of sightseeing and you should only be woken by birds singing and the sun peeping in behind the blind. Our kitchen is brand new for 2018 - we are very excited for the new launch! It has everything you need for a self-catering stay and we provide complimentary coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Our bathroom has views over the garden and we provide complimentary toiletries. The garden has amazing countryside views and is a wonderfully peaceful place to eat al fresco in summer. We added a summerhouse in 2016 from which some amazing sunsets can regularly be watched - not to mention our incredible star filled skies!
Belford is a historic market town and a welcoming base to spend your holiday in. There is a good sized co-op, coffee shops, farm shop, pubs, chip shop, newsagent, community shop, museum and Churches all within a couple of minutes pleasant stroll from our cottage.

There was even room to have two family members round for dinner. The house itself is very cosy, with both central heating and an open fire if you need it. The cooking facilities were ideal too. Katherine is a great host - both welcoming, accommodating and responsive. Much recommended.

  • I had a lovely stay at St Cuthbert's Cottage, and wish I had booked to stay for longer. The location is great, very close to the harbour and with several pubs nearby. I enjoyed a visit to the Olde Ship Inn which had been recommended to me by several people. In the cottage, the upstairs kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals, and the lounge area is cosy and comfortable. The downstairs bedroom was also comfortable, and I slept very well during my stay. This was a great base to start exploring Northumberland, and I'd love to visit again.

  • We had a lovely stay in February. We met Sam’s brother who was very friendly and asked how our stay was and if they could improve anything. Our dogs settled straight away. It was a great spot close to Beadnell. We enjoyed a walk down to the beach each morning and was close enough for a walk to the Craster Arms on an evening. The locals and landlord were really friendly and welcoming and the dogs enjoyed it there too. Lovely views from the back garden. It was a very comfortable and cosy cottage. It was well heated. We loved the cake, wine and chocolates. There was milk in the fridge, coffee, tea, sugar and hot chocolate. There was everything we needed for our stay, Sam really has thought of everything and we were so lucky with the weather. We came back and thought we would book again for the Summer but it was all booked up for our dates which didn’t surprise us. Obviously everyone else who stayed there had the same idea. It’s in a great location for Bamburgh etc. Thank you for our fabulous stay. We had a lovely time and so did our dogs. I’m sure we will be back.

  • When we arrived we found cake and wine waiting for us at the cottage. Amazing! It was clean, comfortable and very safe for our dogs. Only 10 min walk to the beach. We highly recommend the cottage you won’t be disappointed.

  • The Bothy is one of the cosiest and mot comfortable places we have stayed. There were a lot of thoughtful touches (the welcome cake, chocolate and wine was lovely) and everything you could need. It's set just outside of Beadnell Village (about a 10 minute walk in) with a couple of other cottages and is ideal for if you need a bit of peace and quiet. We will be back (maybe even with some four legged friend next time as we noted that the cottages were extremely dog friendly). Thanks to Sam and all - it is truly a lovely part of the world to stay.

  • A lovely cosy spot in a fantastic location. There were some great welcoming touches - a homemade cake and milk and wine in the fridge, the cottage was well-equipped and warm (we stayed in February). There was also a wealth of (up-to-date) information about things to do in the surrounding area.

Such a warm and welcoming place to stay and the log burner made the evenings very cosy. Plenty of space as there were 5 of us, including 2 children. Beautiful old building, lovely cosy furnishings, great garden (with a selection of outdoor toys for kids), remote but easily accessible to the A1 by car, and Claire’s communications were fantastic. A perfect place for a half term getaway with the kids. Thank you Claire, we’ll stay again!

  • I stayed in Claire’s lovely cottage with my wife and 5 year old daughter. Great location to discover Northumberland’s attractions. The cottage has some lovely features and the surroundings were beautiful. The host was exceptionally helpful and friendly, even providing toys for our daughter to play with. The bottle of wine and fresh eggs were a nice touch too. Definitely recommend and would love to stay again - thank you.

The location if fantastic, being a 20 minute drive to the Cheviots and Bamburgh, as well as being 10 minutes from Wooler and close to Alnwick. There is a great pub down the road where we had a good dinner. The space is beautiful, spacious and homely - the log burner was particularly great. Beautiful dark skies at night with lots of stars. Cannot fault at all.

The cottage is located in a secluded location just outside of Wooler, in the beautiful Cheviot Hills.
The rustic, timber cottage has a wood burning stove with plenty of logs for warmth and is an ideal place to stay for those seeking an escape from the trappings of modern life. There is no WIFI and electricity is provided by cards, which are included.
The location of Gardener's Cottage is in the grounds of Yearle House, and guests are free to explore the gardens. Further afield, there are many beaches and castles to explore.
  • The Gardeners cottage is a charming place, located in a little piece of paradise in the Cheviots, with magnificent views all around. You literally walk over a stile at the back of the garden and you are walking in the hills. Mylo the host was impecable from first contact, to directions, to a welcoming hamper and lit fire on arrival, to kindness of his time, making us feel so welcome. Lastly the cottage is so cosy, with wood burner, comfy beds, and fully equipped for self catering... We will be back

  • Craig's place is a very welcoming and very comfortable place to stay. Great location to get around the local area and a bus stop in front of the Black Swan and one further up the hill. We used the bus twice. The Black Swan has a nice atmosphere and very dog friendly. No food on a Wednesday. The Blue Belle hotel serves food between 6pm and 8pm. Would certainly be back and would be recommending Craig's Place to family and friends.

The caravan is located at Haggerston Castle holiday park in Northumberland. If you wish to use facilities inside the complex such as swimming and night time entertainment you will need to purchase passes from reception, prices for these can be found on the haven website. There is a tv in the living room with Netflix and another in the larger twin room. There is plenty of kids games, dvds, cooking utensils feel free to use everything but please leave it all how you found it when you leave. Thanks
The park is close to Berwick-upon-Tweed, Holy Island, Sea Houses, Alnwick castle and gardens, Paxton house and many more great locations if you fancied a trip out and there is plenty of family activities, entertainment and places to eat and shop on the site. The park is beautifully landscaped around the castle and lakes, perfect for an evening stroll after a meal or a few drinks.
  • Lovely caravan in an ideal location close to amenities- would have no doubts to book again and highly recommend- great hosts with fast correspondence

  • We used Steven’s caravan as a base for trips we had planned in the area. We stayed 3 nights over the weekend. As former static owners ourselves, we were very impressed with the cleanliness and standard of the place and it is equipped extremely well with lots of homely touches adding to it. The caravan is located in a nice quiet area very close to the main building. The site is a lovely place too although we didn’t use the facilities in the main building due to the trips out we had planned. We would have no hesitation in returning the next time we visit the area. Thanks very much for your hospitality. Paul and family

  • Steven was a great host, very quick to respond to queries. Checking in and out was really straight forward The caravan was exactly as described and was in a brilliant location, really close to all the amenities. We had a great stay!

We made the cabin from a used shipping container. It’s off grid with just its own simple 12 volt lighting, and no WiFi. There’s board games, a wood burning stove, huge bed, hot shower & a compost loo. Views of Budle Bay & Bamburgh Castle. Situated 1/5 mile down a private forest track, surrounded by nature. Leave the hustle & bustle behind & come switch off & relax. Lots of great pubs & restaurants nearby. Kick back & relax.
The cabin is entirely bespoke, we even made the bed. There’s an instant hot shower & compost loo and a big deck out front with stunning views. It's a learning curve & we'll change it, refine it etc as per the feedback that comes back whilst keeping our original hopes for the cabin. So please do tell us what you like & what you think could make it better & help us create a wonderful space for people.
The cabin is located 2.5 miles from the village of Belford, and 3.5 from Chatton. It’s 0.5 mile down a private forest track. The only neighbour is me! You can totally relax in nature here, there’s nobody to bother you. There's a range of pubs & restaurants in the area to suit all tastes & budgets, you're encouraged to use them & get craicing with the locals.
  • Living off grid here for two nights was lots of fun!

  • We had a fantastic stay at the Smoke House cabin, it had everything we needed for a cozy stay despite some crazy weather! The bed was so comfy and the log burner warmed up the space really quickly. Belford is just a couple of miles away, we walked in and had a lovely meal at the Black Swan pub then got a taxi back later on. We will definitely be back!

  • What a great stay! Nathalie was a great host and so so kind! The cabin is incredible, such a fantastic place to get away and enjoy nature! Some lovely local walks, beaches and castles, it really is a wonderful spot, I can’t wait to come back again soon!

  • Amazing place, secluded in the forest, feels like you’re a long way from anyone. Damp and cold weather but the hut soon warmed up! Nathalie went out of her way to be helpful, her instructions were perfect and suggestions for dinner were great. Would love to come back in the summer.

The outhouse also provides space for storage of bikes, etc. Parking There is private parking to the rear of the house. Facilities for babies A travel cot and high chair are available on request. The cottage sits just 3.5 miles from Cornhill-on-Tweed which has an excellent village shop selling a super selection of fresh local produce, including picnic hampers and scrummy home baking. It is also home to the highly regarded Collingwood Arms which has a pub as well as a superb restaurant for lingering lunches or fine evening dining. Alternatively, pop your wellies on and take a fifteen minute stroll over the field and woodland margins to the popular Bluebell Inn for a relaxing drink after supper. A more extensive range of shops, pubs and cafes can be found in the quaint market town of Coldstream (5 miles) where the shopping is small and friendly with a good mix of independent outlets running the length of the High Street, including a family butchers, fruit and veg shop, bakery and small Co-op supermarket for holiday provisions. The Coldstream Gallery is a lovely spot to browse art, ceramics and jewellery by local designers; or pop into Calico Interiors for lifestyle gifts and accessories before coffee and cake at the charmingly named ‘Mad Hatter’ nearby. A number of larger supermarkets, including a Marks & Spencers food outlet can be found in the historic town of Berwick-upon-Tweed (13 miles), or picturesque Kelso (14 miles) which has an excellent selection of independent shops set around a Flemish style market square. The cottage is located in the heart of North Northumberland and is exceptionally well placed for exploring the wider area. Seven miles in one direction will take you to the edge of the Northumberland National Park, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty with over 400 square miles of stunning landscapes, criss-crossed by over 700 miles of walking, biking and riding trails which follow the routes of ancient cattle drovers, taking in Iron Age stone fortifications and traces of Bronze Age hillforts amidst the tranquil and rugged landscape. Hop into your walking boots and you can join Northumberland Park Rangers for a guided walk from Wooler where you will learn much about the heritage and wildlife of the area, or follow sections of St. Cuthbert’s Way and enjoy some outstanding vistas along the route as it winds its way to the dune-fringed sands on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. For cycling, you will find everything from gentle low-level meanders to big hill country treks, including long-distance routes such as the Pennine Cycleway or the cycle challenges of the Wooler Wheel Hub. For families, the Breamish Valley is a popular area with pretty river picnic spots where children can paddle, followed by a walk to the lovely waterfall at Linhope Spout where you may even spot some wild Cheviot goats along the way. Alternatively, a warm welcome awaits you at Ford & Etal Estates (3 miles) which has a super range of family friendly activities with over twenty attractions to explore. Take a ride on Bunty on the very charming 15” gauge steam railway, follow the mouse trail around the Heatherslaw Corn mill or there is fishing, canoeing, cycle hire and a riding centre all nearby. For art lovers, a must-visit is the pre-Raphaelite murals at the Lady Waterford Hall, or explore the ruins of Etal Castle or the local heritage sites of nearby Flodden or Duddo Standing Stones, Northumberland’s equivalent of Stonehenge. The stunning heritage coastline is just a short half-hour drive away with miles of pristine sandy beaches, jolly pubs serving the freshest fish and chips, and picture postcard coastal villages with charming galleries and gift shops. Experience the exhilarating thrill of kitesurfing at Bamburgh, coasteering at Beadnell or perhaps just the simple pleasures of a picnic and a game of beach cricket on sands which remain almost deserted even in the summer months. History buffs will be enchanted by the rich heritage of the area, where dramatic castles and grand stately homes punctuate the landscape here, including imposing Bamburgh perched on its rocky outcrop above Bamburgh Beach; Alnwick, star of the Harry Potter films; or Chillingham, said to be the most haunted castle in Britain and home to the only wild cattle in the world. Fishing is available on the River Till about a ten minute drive and is one of the area's best kept secrets with an impressive sea trout run each spring said to be the best in the country. Trout permits are available for as little as £5 per day and rods, reels and waders can be hired locally.

  • Perfect little house for two - plus dog. Beautifully presented, great location. So quiet and peaceful. Welcome pack with home made goodies was a bonus. We made trips to Lindisfarne, Berwick, a boat trip to the Farne Islands and to the battle site at Flodden Field. The Collingwood Arms at Cornhill-on-Tweed and The Border at Kirk Yetholm are well worth a visit to eat in the evening. Very relaxing few days.

Bamburgh Castle stands guard over the North Sea from a rocky plateau. There are 1,400 years of history to discover right here. Alnwick Castle is a great day out too. The Gardens were lovingly restored by the Duchess of Northumberland, and contain fascinating features like the Poison Garden. While you’re in Alnwick, make sure to pop into Barter Books, the nation’s biggest second-hand bookshop and the place where all those ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ posters originated from. If you’re still hungry for castles, Lindisfarne is a spectacular destination. The Holy Island seems steeped in time – monks lovingly crafted the Lindisfarne Gospel here in the 700s, and people still come on religious retreats here today. Make sure to time your visit well – the island gets cut off from the mainland at high tide! One of the North East’s best kept secrets are the beaches that stretch for miles along the North Sea. Bamburgh, Embleton and Beadnell are all within driving distance of Mallow Lodge. Northumberland is mountain country and there’s plenty of high spots to choose from. The Cheviot Hills are breathtaking, and walking the ridges you can feel that you’re the only soul in the world. The waterfall of Linhope Spout plunges 18 metres to a pool below, and makes quite a racket! If you get a buzz out of buzzards or want to catch an oystercatcher, then Budle Bay is well worth a visit. Both migrants and natives flock here throughout the year, and there’s always plenty to see. There are binoculars you can borrow at Mallow Lodge. • A basic but very clean place with straight forward accommodation in bunk rooms. I did not get to sample the cafe but it looked very good. There is a pub nearby and a petrol station with a reasonable selection of food and drink. The Newcastle-Berwick bus stops across the road. The location is ideal for a visit to Lindisfarne, being about a 45 minute walk to the causeway.

  • It was new, modern, stylish, and although we didn't need the café, it looked great - both this and accommodation great for travellers!

  • A really great place, some lovely touches that make it so much easier to just arrive and relax. Super clean and a really comfy and relaxing space, great location with lots of lovely places to walk and eat.

  • A spotlessly clean, cosy and comfortable space which will leave you wanting for nothing that you wouldn't find at home!

    Rachel2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely first class! Wonderful, cosy cottage with a high standard of furnishings, that are immaculate, clean and comfortable. Attention to detail and the supplying of kitchen basics , such as tea, coffee etc; to bathroom products, shower gels, shampoos etc. Not forgetting our four legged friends who were also superbly catered for. Rachel and her local contact Paula, were extremely attentive and on hand to sort out any issues, if they were to occur . Wholeheartedly support Rachel's policy of no smoking in the property and hopefully all guests will too. A real oasis of calm and fantastic recharge of batteries. Close to local amenities ( Co-op, fabulous selection and good discounts!) The independent food market, also exceptional with artisan local produce. Can recommend The Salt Water Cafe in Beadnell, as well as the many beautiful beaches ( dog friendly) and local historical sites, such as Dunstanburgh Castle ( fab coastal walk, just a touch breezy!) Marvellous little winter break in such a fabulous part of the country. Will definitely rebook and have no reservations in recommending this truly outstanding cottage.

    Shirley2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic little find. Clean, warm and extra little touches to make it special. Very near to centre of town, harbour and beach. Definitely worth booking next time for a quiet winter break.

  • A truly exceptional find! Morningsyde cottage is an amazing place to stay- a superb location, so comfortable and warm, spotlessly clean- AND dog friendly! We had a peaceful and relaxing break, and would happily return in the future. Seahouses itself has plenty to offer, and there are also so many idyllic areas to visit close by; and to be able to return to a warm and cosy cottage at the end of the day was the icing on the cake!

    Lisa2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • What a fantastic wee place, had such a great time, really dog friendly place as was the local area, will definitely be back. Thanks so much

The Signal Box is our gorgeous little studio; a quiet getaway in the Northumbrian countryside. It's situated in the village of Ellingham, has a log burner, south facing balcony overlooking fields and a private enclosed garden. It's fully equipped for self-catering and is within a minute's walk of a great pub if you don't fancy cooking. Its name is our little touch of whimsy because we immediately thought of a signal box when we first saw it with its exterior wooden panelling.
The Signal Box is the perfect place to get away from it all for a few days. We love staying there with our dog Pebble and hope you will too! It's accessed via an external staircase onto a south facing balcony complete with patio furniture. Large patio doors lead into the open-plan living space, furnished with log burner, sofa seating for two, TV and DVD player, dining table and chairs, double bed, wardrobe and shower room. The kitchen has an induction hob and electric oven, microwave, fridge with ice-box, dishwasher and washing machine. Outside there's the south facing balcony, plus fully enclosed garden with two seating areas and a brick barbecue. There's also parking for one car on the driveway at the front of the property. It's situated on the edge of a quiet village, yet only a short drive to the beautiful beaches of the Northumbrian coast and to the market town of Alnwick. If you need a city fix, you're less than an hour away from Newcastle.
Ellingham is a small village about 7 miles north of the market town of Alnwick and 5 miles inland from the beautiful beach at Beadnell. There's a great local pub, the Packhorse Inn that does lovely food
  • Fantastic accommodation, with everything you would need, very comfortable and user friendly. Great information on local things to do and see. Had dinner one night and fish and chips take away another night from The Pack Horse Inn, well worth a visit, great food and brilliant staff.

  • The Signal Box is well equipped, comfortable and ideally located to explore the wider area. It has been nicely refurbished and has everything you would need for a short break. Jenny provided ample information before our stay and within the folder at the property. Dogs are well catered for and even get snacks left for them. The property is in a quiet location and within very easy walking distance of the local pub and driving distance of the beautiful local beaches. We really enjoyed our stay here and would consider returning at another time.

    Sarah2019-10-07T00:00:00Z

Mallow Lodge is one of a small group of holiday eco-lodges situated within the dramatic setting of Brada Quarry. Northumberland is known for its awesome scenery, and the quarry is no exception, with superb views from the decking and living room, and with nature right on your doorstep. The living space is the perfect place to relax of an evening, with comfy sofas and a wood burning stove as a central feature. Mallow Lodge puts you in easy reach of some of Northumberland’s most famous and iconic destinations, including Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island. Attractions and nearby amenities Northumberland is known for its castles, so while you’re here make sure you visit what some consider to be the most picturesque. • Rens retreat really did not disappoint if anything it exceeded expectations! This was our first stay using airbnb and Ali made it very easy for us and guided us through everything which was perfect and very reassuring. The home itself was just that - you didn’t feel like you were in a hotel or holiday home, you felt at home as soon as you walked through the door with the attention to detail on the little homely touches. There was nothing we needed that wasn’t available and everything was done to a fabulous standard. We would definitely return!
