Rustic Home in Montserrat

This rustic home situated in a secluded valley in Montserrat National Park, 60km from Barcelona was built after the Napoleonic wars. The legend has it that it was built with money stolen from the corpses of the defeated French soldiers after the battle of El Bruc. I rebuilt the house from a near ruin, respecting the original structure in 1992. I have decorated it with a notable and very personal collection of art. There is a picturesque view from every window.

La Ninota is a house restored in 2020, built in 1938 following the plans of a Swiss architect. Well designed and cozy, with light on the four sides. There is a barbecue in the garden, with the possibility of putting tables outside and having a lunch outdoors. Ideal location for hiking and walking or cycling tours. Large 1800-built house: families, groups, retreats

The house is simply wonderful. From the outside, you can't imagine all the magic that wooden door contains. The rustic decor, the plants, the huge open spaces, invite you to not want to leave the house and to feel completely connected to the rest of the house and to all the people who are in the house. Each room having its own bathroom is a gift. Both courtyards are beautiful and very welcoming. The area is very quiet. And the views of Montserrat from the house are spectacular. We hope to be back soon. Thank you Sonia for everything.

Our family of four had a great time staying in Miguel’s house for a week. He was always available to answer questions. And Macu who was there to welcome us on arrival, was equally helpful, even popping over with a battery for a remote. There was plenty of space. The sofa seating outside by the pool was great for reading and playing cards. The pool was large, and the jacuzzi added to the fun. The large picture windows were brilliant for taking in the stunning Montserrat mountains. What a view! That’s reason enough to stay there. But in practical terms, Collbato is a quiet town, with its main claim to fame being the ‘entrance’ to the Massif. The house is on a residential street looking down on the town. The local supermarket had everything we needed and we enjoyed Miguel’s recommendation for the nearby restaurant Vinyanova. It was quite the experience. From the house we visited the Montserrat monastery, Barcelona and Sitges. The rest of the week we were happy to relax at the house.

If we could give the castle 10 stars, we would! None of us wanted to leave. The castle with view and surroundings was beautiful and peaceful. Our kids loved learning the history of the castle and of Spain in general from Marc, the host. Marc was always available with anything we needed. We hiked 3 trails from the castle which Marc recommended and we loved them all. The kids enjoyed exploring the castle and property around the castle. They all say it’s the best place we’ve ever stayed! Thank you Marc! We hope to come back one day!:)

I am so satisfied with this accommodation that I want to come to Manresa again. I recommend long-term accommodation rather than short-term accommodation. Especially, the nearby lake park is a healing shelter where you can feel the daily life of Manresa residents. There was a dishwasher, washing machine, oven, basic cooking utensils, and a grocery store and wine shop nearby where I could get good ingredients, so I was able to enjoy life.
